Chapter 4        Radio GUI manual guide

This section introduce the FMR application and describe the function of each component that are found in GUI. Refer Chapter 1 for SF16-FMR2 FM radio board info.


(4-A) Introduction of GUI

FM application by Mediaforte is a user friendly FM radio GUI. When you launched "fmr2appl" either through Xterm terminal or through desktop short cut icon, you will see that a dialog box pop-out and display on the screen "FMR2 application by Mediaforte".

FMR2 GUI consists of 3 row of components. First row consists of a LED display panel and 10 preset station button. Second row consists button like On/Off button, Memory button, Fine Tune Down button, Fine Tuner Up button, Auto Scan Down button, Auto Scan Up button, Mute On/Off button, Stereo/Mono Toggle button and Additional Option buttons. Third row consists FM Radio status bar and Volume control sliding bar.


(4-B) GUI Components Description

a. LED displayed panel
    This component displays the correspond radio station frequency band (88 ~ 108 MHz), system clock (hh:mm) and the preset station button  number been pressed.

    Each button can store one preset FM radio frequency. Clicking on any of these button, preset station is tuned and LED displayed panel will update station frequency band and station number. To store new station frequency, click MEMORY button and follow by Station # button. The old preset station frequency is overwritten by new station frequency.

c. On/Off button

    This component acts as a power switch to turn off Radio GUI. Clicking on this button, an "Application Exit Dialog Windows" pop-out on the screen; you can choose to exit GUI with Radio tune on background or not or cancel operation.

    Yes - Turn off GUI and Radio Music continue to play on background .
    No - Turn off GUI and Radio Music is muted and turn-off GUI.
    Cancel - Cancel operation.

d. Memory button

    This component memorize station frequency and store them in any station number #. Clicking on MEMORY button and follow by Station #  button. The old preset station frequency is overwritten by new station  frequency.

e. Fine Tune Down and Fine Tuner Up button

    This component performs 50kHz decrement or increment fine-tuning to achieve best radio sensitivity.

f. Auto Scan Down and Auto Scan Up button

    The component performs automatic search downward via down button pressed or upward via up button pressed.

g. Mute On/Off button

    This component mutes and UN-mutes radio volume. "Muted" will be  appear on FM Radio Status Bar

h. Stereo/Mono Toggle button

    This component toggles the radio channel between Stereo and Mono. You   may like to use this feature if your receiving station keep swinging between stereo and mono vigorously.

i. Additional Option button

    This component consists additional feature such as Sleep, Alarm, Mixer Control and Search Strength. Clicking on this button will launch "Options Dialog Windows" on the screen. To return to Radio GUI, this window box need to be closed.

    Sleeps Setting Dialog Window:
        Allow you to activate sleep range from 1 to 59 minutes.
        To cancel this operation, click cancel button. Sleep is reset
        to off immediately after this operation take place.

    Alarm Setting Dialog Window:
        Allow you to activate wake-up at specific time (hh:mm)
        at specific station #. You need to click "Alarm on/off "to ON
        to enable this feature. The next time you launch GUI, Alarm
        will be ON till you turn-off this feature.

    Mixer Option Dialog Window:
        Allow you to select either controlling Sound card mixer or
        Power-amp SF16-FMR2. If your SF16-FMR2 is non power-amplifier
        version, then "On board Amp" is automatically shadowed.
        Without Sound card present, "Sound Card Mixer" is shadowed too.
        You will notice that the volume sliding bar is inactive if
        both are shadowed.

        If your SF16-FMR2 is Power-amplifier version, then
        choose "on-board Amp" . Sliding the volume bar correspond to
        your SF16-FMR2 mixer.

        If you install Sound card, you may want to choose "Sound Card
        Mixer"
. Sliding volume bar correspond to your sound card mixer.

    Search Sensitivity Option Dialog Window:
        Allow you to set different degree of sensitivity to search
        radio station. (Low, Medium, High, Very High)

        If you are located near to radio station, you may need to
        reduce your sensitivity strength level vie versa. You may
        experience some difficulty to distinguish the different.


j. Radio status
    The status bar indicates to listener whether your FM radio is  functional normal or in muted state, receiving Stereo or Mono
    station, Memory button is suppressed. For example :

        Stereo Normal Tune Memory

    This mean FM radio station is Stereo channel, tuned, MEM button is
    pressed and waiting for your next action (i.e. pressed any numeric
    button to store that station frequency)


k. Volume control sliding bar

    This components provide volume control to SF16-FMR2 power-amplifier or sound card mixer. Your extreme left indicates Minimum and extreme right indicates Maximum.

    If SF16-FMR2 Power-amplifier version is used, "on-board
    Amp"
is automatically selected. Sliding the volume bar correspond to
    your SF16-FMR2 mixer.

    If Sound card is installed, you may choose "Sound Card Mixer".
    Sliding volume bar correspond to your sound card mixer.

    If sound card not present and SF16-FMR2 non Power Amplifier
    version is used, then volume bar is inactive. You will have to control
    directly from the volume control knob of your speaker.
