This error message occurs when Dial-Up Networking is not installed correctly, or contains an error. Please follow the steps below in order to stop receiving of this error message 748.

1.     Hoe to reinstall Dial-Up Networking.

  • Go to My computer.

  • Double-click on Control Panel with your left mouse button.

  • Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Go to the Windows Set-up tab.
  • Uncheck the Communications component and then click OK
2.     Installing and checking Dial-Up Networking

  • Go to My computer.

  • Double-click on Control Panel.

  • Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Go to the Windows Set-up tab.
  • Double-click the Communications component. Please check the option Dial-Up Networking and click OK
  • Make sure the Communications option is checked now (if this is not the case, double-click Communications. Make sure Dial-Up Networking is checked now).
  • Clikck OK again and restart the computer.

  • Go to My computer.

  • Click on Control Panel.

3.     Installing a dial-up connection in Dial-Up Networking

  • Go to My computer.
  • Double-click Dial-Up Networking .

  • Double-click Make New Connection.

  • For a name enter World Online and click Next.
  • Type your local dial-up number. Click here for your local dial-up number and click Next. If you use ISDN, you will have to enter the area code in the phone number field (for instance: 020 1234567)
  • TIP if you have a 4-digit area number, you can leave out the last digit, to prevent you from dialling an 11-digit number.

4.     TCP/IP corrupt (for ISDN modems)

  • Unfortunately the TCP/IP protocol does not always function correctly. This protocol takes care of the data transfer. The TCP/IP Protocol can be found in the Network. It will have to be replaced. Follow the steps below to do this.

  • Double-click on My Computer.
  • Double-click on Control Panel.
  • Double-click the Network icon.
  • Click TCP/IP.
  • Next click Remove.
  • Click Add.
  • There is a possibilty that another component will be removed from this network configuration screen. That is the Client for Microsoft Networks.
  • Click here to see how you can add the Client again.
  • Next click Protocol again.
  • Click Add again.
  • Select Microsoft from the list of Manufacturers.
  • Select TCP/IP from the list of Network protocols
  • Next click OK to close this screen.
  • The TCP/IP protocol -> Dial-Up adapter will still have to be configured.
  • Click here to configure the TCP/IP protocol.

5.     TCP/IP corrupt (for analogue modems)
