Error message 630: The computer is not receiving a response from the modem. Check that the modem is plugged in, and if necessary, turn the modem off, and then turn it back on.

This error occurs when the computer does not receive a response from the modem when dialling. Please check the following options:

  1. Make sure no initialisation strings are entered
  2. Make sure you have selected the appropriate modem
  3. Contact your modem or ISDN supplier

1.     Make sure no initialisation strings are entered

Check first, whether the modem is turned on and is connected to the computer. Is the phone line connected to the modem? If this is the case, you can follow the steps below.

  • Click with your left mouse button on My computer.

  • Double-click with your left mouse button on Control Panel.

  • Open the Modems component.

  • Select the modem you use with your left mouse button and click Properties.

  • Click on the Configure button.

  • Click on the tab Connection.

  • Click on the Advanced button.

  • There may be an initialisation string in the Extra Settings box. If this is the case, you can remove it

 

2.     Make sure you have selected the appropriate modem

  • Double-click the icon My computer on you desktop.

  • Open Dial-Up Networking by double-clicking it.

  • Select the connection you use with the right mouse button and select Properties.

  • On the bottom of this screen the modem will be selected under Connect using. Make sure this is the right one..

 

  • Click OK in order to close the screen.

 

3.     Contact your modem or ISDN supplier
