Follow the Windows instructions.

3.     If you use a modem

Top of page

If you use a modem, you will have to establish your modem speed first. The most common speeds are 33k6 and 56k. The latter come in three variations: 56k/Flex, 56k/X2 and 56k/V.90. Information about your modem type, can be found on the box or in the documentation of your modem. If you do not have these at your disposal, try the following: Go to the Control panel and open the component Modems. Here you will find information on your modem and in most cases the modem speed.

4.     If you use a 56k modem

Decrease your modem speed down. You can do this as follows:

Click on My computer with your left mouse button.

Double-click on Control Panel with your left mouse button.

Select the modem you use and click on Properties

Decrease the current speed (recommended speed: 57600, but a lower speed can be used as well)

Close this screen again, by clicking OK.

This is an overview of general, commonly used initialisation strings:

ATZ
AT&F
AT&FZ
AT&F+MS=V34 (for 56k modems only!)
AT&F+MS=11,1 (for 56k modems only!)
AT&F&C1&D2B0
AT&F&C1&D2B0+MS=56,1 (for 56k modems only!)

AT&F&C1&D2B0+MS=56,1 (for 56k modems only!)
There is a possibility that your modem will no longer react after an initialisation string has been entered. If that is the case, please remove the initialisation string. If you are using an internal modem, restarting the computer will be required. In case of an external modem, you can just switch the modem off and on. You can then try using a different initialisation string.
Several strings exist for each modem type. A number of strings can usually be found in the documentation that comes with the modem. If the strings mentioned above do not help, you can try to find other strings that do function with your modem.
