The TV output would be perfect if one could adjust the picture size infinitely variable. Unfortunately this is not possible because of technical reasons. The TV chips used are only able to produce pictures with certain sizes. TVTool supports three of them (standard, desktop, fullscreen) but in most cases no one matches your TV screen size exactly. To reduce this problem partly there is the resize function.

The resize function

The principle is very easy. If one cannot adjust the picture size we adjust the size of the window on the Desktop which we want to output to TV, so that it fits perfectly on TV screen. For a proper use of the resize function the fullscreen picture size is required. The fullscreen size produces a picture which is larger than the viewable part of the TV screen. HEre comes the resize function into play anddecreases the size of the window we want to see so that it fits the screen perfectly. In the online FAQ of www.tvtool.de a step by step description of the resize function can be found.

How to enable/disable the resize mode?

This is done by the corresponding hotkey, CTRL-F6 by default. The window, which shall be adjusted, must be in the foreground (just click on it). Then press the hotkey and resize mode is active. On the tab you will see the name of the window you have chosen. By pressing this hotkey again the mode is turned off.

Now the size of the window can be adjusted exactly. This is done by the buttons in the left part of the tab. With the two buttons in the corners the window can be zoomed in and out, that means the aspect ratio is not changed. With the buttons in the right part the window can be moved. It is also possible to type in values directly in the fields in the middle.

  • Hint : All buttons on these tab have an auto-repeat function when pressed continously.

Aspect Ratio : Shows the aspect ratio of the resize window, e.g. 4 :3 or 16 :9.

Show Client Data : When this option is activated the values for the size and the position of the client area are shown, too. The client area of a DVD player for example is the part where the actual picture is displayed only. So the title bar, the borders etc. are not part of the client area. (s. ill. : the client area is colored red.)

Show Border : Lays a black border around the resize window. This is useful to cover unwanted parts of the desktop or the resize window itself, e.g. the title bar. The size of the border can be adjusted with the buttons under Enlarge Border.

Hide Taskbar : Fades in and out the taskbar during resize mode.

Use Toolbar : Fades in a toolbar, when the resize mode is activated. So you can adjust the most important parameters without having TVTool in the foreground.

Enlarge Border : Here you adjust the size of the black borders (s. Show Borders) produced by the resize function. The left and the right border are changed simultaneously by the middle buttons.

Presets : You can save all adjustments made on one of the preset buttons 1-6. A short press restores the values. By pressing for more than 3 sec. the values are saved and a name for the preset can be entered. By pressing Return or cklicking on the button again, the preset is saved. It is also saved which preset was used last. This one is used next time when you enable the resize function. The green LED signals the currently active preset.
