Make the light beam visible

So far you have seen your light displayed on the ground plane or on an object. Using the Lighting lab, you can make the light object and the beam of light visible. This lets you create the appearance of light through fog or smoke.

  1. Select the spotlight.
  2. Click the Edit object button Lets you edit the properties of an object, located to the right of the spotlight.
  3. In the Lighting lab, under Render options, select Visible object. The Preview window shows that the shape of the light object is now visible, but the beam of light is not visible.
  4. To make both the light object and the light beam visible, select Infinite light. Notice that the entire beam is now visible in the Preview window.
  5. By default, only the surface of the light beam is visible. To make the entire volume of the light visible, select Volume.
  6. Click OK to close the Lighting lab.
  7. Render your scene.
Click here to see how your scene should look.
