Cut the lake out of the ground plane

A hole for the lake can now be created using the third terrain object. First, you must turn the terrain into a negative Boolean object. Then you'll 'cut' the shape out of the ground plane.

To create a negative Boolean object

  1. With the third terrain still selected, click the Edit attributes button.
  2. Enable the Negative option.
  3. Click OK.
The terrain object is now highlighted with dotted lines, which signify its negative boolean state.

To create the lake

  1. Ensure that the Wireframe underground button Lets you hide objects that are below the ground plane on the Advanced display palette is on.
  2. Select the terrain, and drag down until its square base is just above the ground plane. Watch the Nano-preview window to track your progress.

Click here to see what the lowered terrain should look like.

To group the terrains

  1. Press Command\Control + A to select all of the terrains.
  2. Click the Group button.
  3. Click the Render button to view your scene.
