Add an image gel to a spotlight

A gel is a texture or picture which is applied to a light and treated as a transparency or slide. This allows you to project colors, textures, or images onto objects in your scene. You will now apply an image gel to the spotlight.

  1. Switch to Wireframe display mode by clicking the Display modes icon Indicates that you're viewing a rendered scene and toggles to wireframe mode.
  2. In your scene, select the spotlight.
  3. Click the Edit object button Lets you edit the properties of an object, located to the right of the spotlight.
  4. In the Lighting lab, select Use gel, and click the Image button.
  5. You could use any bitmap image on your computer, but for this tutorial you will use the default image that is already displayed in the Pictures dialog box. Click OK to accept the image and close the dialog box. The Preview window shows that the light is changed by the gel.
  6. Under Render options select Surface. This will make the effect more obvious.
  7. Click OK to close the Lighting lab.
  8. Render your scene.
Click here to see how your scene should look.
