SMTP Options Dialog

The SMTP Options dialog allows you to specify additional options for the SMTP server, including authorization information, mail format verification, and a From Account. You can show the SMTP Options dialog by clicking the SMTP Options button in the Preferences dialog.

Authentication section
Type
Choose the type of authentication performed by your SMTP server (None or Login).

User name
Type the user or login name for the SMTP server.

Password
Type the password for the SMTP server.

Verify mail format
Click this box to verify the format of forwarded mail. Verification includes checking the From, To, Reply-To, and Cc mail headers for valid e-mail address formatting, and ensuring that message lines do not exceed 1024 characters.

If an invalid header is found, the header name is prefixed with the string "X-Original-" (for example, a From header would be changed to X-Original-From). Note that your e-mail client will not recognize the modified headers.

Message lines that are too long are split into segments. Line breaks are inserted at a space character wherever possible.

Setting this option is not recommended unless your SMTP server is rejecting messages due to incorrect formatting.

From account
Type the e-mail address to use as the From account for the SMTP server. Do not enter a value for this field unless it is required by your SMTP server. If forwarded mail is undeliverable, it will be returned to this account rather than the account where it originated.
