Cleaning Agent

Opens...   at application startup

Info Cleaning Agent's main window. Lists and allows to configure items to clean.

Description Cleaning Agent works on a simple principle: cleans items in its database (let's call it "watch-list") when certain conditions are fulfilled.

Adding items to the watch-list
To add items to the watch-list, use menu Item > Add File... or Item > Add Folder... You can also use Add File and Add Folder buttons of this window. Add items such as cache folders, reports, log files, generally files that are created by other applications but you don't want them on your disks.
For each item in the list following informations are displayed:
- Name File's/folder's name.
- Size Size of the file/number of items for folder
- Age Time from the item's creation till now
- Creator  Mac creator code (Mac only).
- Type Type of the item. Mac type code on Mac, extension on Windows.
- State
- del this tells you that item will be cleaned next time the Clean! will be performed.
- skip  this tells you that item will be skipped when Clean! will be performed.
- n/a this tells you that item is not available, it doesn't exist or resides on unmounted volume.

Removing items from the watch-list
Items you wish not to be cleaned any longer can be easily removed from the list: just select one or more items and press <Remove> button.

Configuring item's cleaning settings
When there are some items in the watch-list, let's configure their cleaning conditions. By default, items respect general cleaning settings. When you select a single item in the list, its cleaning settings appear below the list. There are 3 main choices when the item will be cleaned:
1.  Respect General Settings  Item will be cleaned when General File/Folder Settings are fulfilled.
2. Always Item will be cleaned each time the Clean! procedure is performed.
3. Item has... Item will be cleaned when fulfils one or all following options:
- Age Item will be cleaned when its age (time from its creation till time when cleaning takes place) matches given condition.
- Size/Items  Item will be cleaned when its size matches given condition. For example log file can be deleted after it has size more than 1MB.
For folder, number of items within is considered instead. For example, cache can be cleaned when number of files in the cache folder exceeds 1,000.

For folders there is one extra option. If Remove folder contents only is checked, contents of the folder will be deleted while actual folder will be not. Unchecking this option will delete the folder itself too.

General Settings
General settings can be configured by selecting menu Cleaner > General File Settings, or Cleaner > General Folder Settings respectively. The settings are identical with item settings with only one exception - first cleaning option, Respect General Settings, is disabled for obvious reasons.

Save changes
Cleaning Agents saves the watch-list into Agent File. You must save the Agent File by selecting menu File > Save, otherwise Cleaning Agent will not remember the changes made in the watch-list and items' settings.

Clean!
Click on Clean! button (the one with the Trash can) or select menu Cleaner > Clean!. This will start cleaning procedure. Cleaning Agent will examine item by item. When the item's cleaning settings are fulfille, item is cleaned.
There is a different way the items are actually cleaned on Mac and on Windows. On Mac, items are moved to Trash. This allows you to save the items before they are premanently deleted by emptying the Trash. On Windows, items are permanently deleted when cleaning is performed. Windows users need to be more careful when adding idemts and setting cleaning conditions.
