Custom buttons are helpful in situations where you want to insert a series of commands. For example, you might want to insert tags that make a piece of text both bold and italic at the same time. By assigning a custom button to such an option you could then simply click on the button to achieve the desired effect.
In the Custom tab, click on the icon Custom Buttons. The Configure custom buttons dialog box is displayed.
Press on the Add button. A second dialog box appears.
Enter a name for the button in the Button title box.
You can replace the suggested shortcut key by placing the cursor inside the Shortcut box and then pressing CTRL or Shift, or both and another key.
Select the type of command
that you want to associate with the button.
You can associate an HTML tag, a script several lines long or starting
an external program.
The adjacent areas of the dialog box are updated according to the type
of command selected.
From the dropdown list in the Icon area, choose an icon to represent the command.
In the Button Content area, enter the required information.
If
you are associating an HTML tag, you must indicate the opening and closing
tags in the corresponding fields.
For example, to define bold and italic formatting, enter <B><I> as the opening tags and </B></I> as the closing tags.
If you are defining a script, you must enter the script lines in the entry fields. You can also import an external file by clicking on the Import button.
If you are defining an external program, you must enter the location of the program you want to run when the button is pressed.
Press on the OK button.
