This chapter describes the basic functionality the golive outline editor adds to your existing package. Also included are descriptions of the package contents, the user profiles and instructions relating to the installation process.
Welcome to the golive outline editor, the latest in a row of extension modules designed to make your golive package even more powerful.
The golive outline editor adds enhanced HTML editing functionality to your familiar golive editor, giving you the choice to build your Web pages either in WYSIWYG or HTML mode.
The outline editor uses a completely new approach to HTML editing. Unlike conventional editors which display more or less raw HTML code, the golive outline editor presents the HTML backbone of your Web page in a clear-cut outline view.
The outline editor comes with the golive pro 1.1 package, which includes the following products:
CD-ROM with the basic golive 1.1 program plus the Gallery, Project and Outline Editor add-on modules;
the golive User Guide;
the present Outline Editor User Guide.
The golive outline editor has been designed both with the seasoned HTML programmer and the novice in mind.
If you are a seasoned HTML programmer, you will find that the golive outline editor adds the ability to tweak and fine-tune the structure of your document. After completing the basic layout of your Web page in the WYSIWYG editor, you can use the new outline editor module to implement the most advanced features supported by the latest Web browser revisions. This is especially true for features which go way beyond the scope of a WYSIWYG editor, such as custom attributes.
You can also use the golive outline editor to build Web pages from scratch. While doing so, you will be supported by a structured editor and a powerful HTML tag database.
The tag database holds a complete selection of HTML tags, both standard and non-standard. gonet will continuously update the content of this database to make sure that it reflects the ongoing evolution of the HTML standard and supports new features that will be introduced by upcoming Web browser products. From time to time, new database revisions will be made available for downloading at our http://www.golive.com site.
If you are keeping track of the latest developments of the HTML language, you may also choose to add new tags to the database as they evolve. Editing the tag database is a simple and straightforward process.
If you are a complete novice, the golive outline editor will allow you to take a close look at the nuts and bolts of HTML. However, unlike many other products, it will not confront you with raw HTML code. Instead, the outline editor will guide you through a structured view of your Web page, helping you to learn and understand the rules of Web page design much faster and easier.
To add the outline editor to an existing golive installation, simply drag the module icon to the Modules folder. Double-click to run golive pro and check if new commands have been added to your File and Edit menus.
To install the complete software, insert the CD-ROM that came with your golive pro package into your CD-ROM drive, select and double-click the appropriate Installer icon for your Macintosh (select 68k) or Power Macintosh computer (selectPPC). Follow the instructions appearing on the screen.
