The
DVD or digital video disk is the next generation of the CD-ROM drive. This drive is backward compatible with the CD-ROM drive which means any current CD-ROM disk will work in this drive. The DVD has a
capacity of up to 4.7Gb and a data transfer rate that starts at approximately 1,300KB/s which is equivalent to a 9X CD-ROM drive. This technology is envisioned to eventually replace VCR tapes and CD-ROM drives.Enhancements on the DVD include a 9.4 double-layer disk and a double-sided double layer disk that will hold 18.8GB! This is approximately 30 times the storage capacity of today's CD-ROMs.
To take full advantage of DVD you will also need a sound card that supports the multimedia
MPEG-2 standard and DVD audio formats.
