Common Litestep and Ferix Questions
Ferix Questions

What version of Litestep does Ferix need to run properly?.
Ferix will work best with an "indie build" from June 2002 or newer.
If you are using the new "Litestep installer v2.0.2 beta 2" from Nov 2002, you are in good shape.

What screen resolutions does Ferix support?.
Ferix supports all screen resolutions from 600x800 up to 1200x1600.

What is with the Wallpaper?.
The wallpaper installs automatically when you install this theme (ie: it should be already done).
If you wish you can disable that feature. Check the Third Party Modules in the "Additional Third Party Module Information" and look for the paragraph on Lswchanger.

Where can I find the matching Ferix Windowblinds skin?.
The Ferix Windowblinds skin can be found at Wincustomize.com in the windowblinds skins section.

Litestep Questions

The answers I provide in this section are my personal opinion and are not intented to slight other versions of Litestep or related material. Anything I suggest here is tried and tested by many folks.

What build or version of Litestep should I be running?.
I recommend using the Litestep Installer v2.0.2 beta 2. This includes the newest version of Litestep (Nov02).
If you prefer not to go the route of an installer and are comfortable installing builds manually, Shellfront.org has the newest builds available.

Is there a standard theme format one should look for?.
OTS is a standard theme format that has been adopted by the majority of Litestep themers. It allows for simple theme installation and allows different utlities to perform theme switching (LSTS or LSCP).

Is there a recommended way of switching between themes?.
Originally switching themes meant editing the step.rc manually. This can still be done and is preferred by some. But many have decided to use a utility to perform this function. Several utlities are available. LSTS and LSCP are the most well-known. I prefer the LSCP (Litestep Control Panel) myself, but both are quite good.

The LSCP comes packaged with any "Indie Litestep Build" from the last 4 months (the Litestep Installer v2.0.2 includes it). To open LSCP you just need to activate the bang command "!lscp". You could enter that in a lsxcommand box or launch it with a shortcut. You could also launch it via an entry in your popup or via a hotkey.

Ferix has a popup entry to launch the LSCP. You can find it under the "Litestep Menu", under the Windows button. It is the entry called "LS Control Panel. Just click on that entry to launch the control panel. Select theme switcher and your available themes are displayed. Double click on the desired theme and away you go. Successful theme switching is of course dependent on the themes being set up correctly (OTS or similiar).

The Litestep community has a lot of on-line resources available. The difficult part can be knowing where to look for specific information. I'll list below some resources I know of, but I'm bound to miss many, so hunt around Litestep sites a bit and you'll be amazed at what you can find.
