Waveform Display Shortcut Menu

This shortcut menu is displayed when you right-click on the waveform display in a Sound Forge window. The commands on this menu are listed below.

Command

Function

Zoom In Full

Maximizes the horizontal magnification to one sample per pixel on the screen. When you zoom in fully, the entire waveform display length will span a very small amount of time, usually around 20 milliseconds (depending on the sample rate and window size).

Zoom Out Full

Zooms out to the lowest magnification so that the entire sound file will fit on the screen.

Zoom Normal

Zooms out to the default zoom ratio preference setting. If the entire sound file can fit in the window at a closer magnification, zoom normal will only zoom out to that ratio.

To change default Normal zoom ratio, go to the Display tab in the Preferences dialog.

Zoom Selection

If any data is selected in the active window, choose Zoom Selection to redraw the data at the maximum zoom factor for the current window size.

Cut

Removes the selected data and places it onto the clipboard.

Copy

Copies the selected data and places it onto the clipboard.

Overwrite

Replaces a selection of sound data with the contents of the clipboard.

The Overwrite command replaces data using the following rules:

  • If the selected area is greater than the length of the clipboard, the data from the beginning of the selection is overwritten for the length of the clipboard.

  • If the selected area is less than or equal to the length of the clipboard, the data within the selection is overwritten with the clipboard for the length of the selection.

Trim/Crop

Removes all data from the sound file except the selected data.

The Trim/Crop command does not copy data onto the clipboard.

Cursor

Choose a command from the submenu to move the cursor.

Selection

If no data is selected, choose Selection to display the Set Selection dialog.

If data is selected, choose Selection and choose a command from the submenu to modify the current selection.

Scroll Playback

Choose Scroll Playback if you want the data window to scroll automatically during playback. When the cursor moves off of the current window, it will quickly scroll to show another full window of data.

Properties

Displays the Properties dialog, which lists attributes and information that is embedded in the currently active sound file.
