Day 274 - 04 Jul 96 - Page 38

generally felt that the recent statements by the company in
relation to their green policies would be effectively
       countered in the new hand-out."

Is that an accurate account, if your memory will allow you
       to give an answer?
       A. Fairly. Paul would have issued a statement, yes, using
his name and using the London Greenpeace heading, yes.

  Q. But with the consent and approval of the 9 or 10 members of
the group that were at the meeting?
       A. Well, I think, I mean, Paul often just came to the
group and just stated what he was or was not going to do
regarding McDonald's and we just left him to get on with
it. I mean, everyone had different interests in the
group. You know, it was an anarchist/libertarian group.
You cannot agree on everything, so you just have to agree
to disagree sometimes and just let people get on with their
own things, as long as they were not outright fascists or
       something.

  Q. Was there anybody in the group who said we think the 16th
October picket, protest, demonstration, call it what you
like, is a bad idea, I do not think we should do it this
       year?
       A. Not that I remember.

  Q. And that press release duly appeared at the end of August?
       A. I cannot say so. If you say so.

  Q. Would you like to have a look at it. For this purpose you
will need a volume with a pink back, large Roman 1A,
please. Please turn to tab 60B, "B" for Bishop.
       A. 16?

  Q. 60B, for Bishop. Turn to the second page of that tab
       please?
       A. Yes.

  Q. It is a press release dated 28th August 1990, is it not, on
       London Greenpeace paper?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And what it is doing is advertising October 16th as World
Day of Action against McDonald's, is it not?
       A. That is what it says here, yes.

  Q. Yes, and it says:

"Once again London Greenpeace is calling for October 16th
United Nations world food day to be a worldwide day of
action against the McDonald's Hamburger Corporation."
       A. Yes.

  Q. Then there is some stuff about the London Greenpeace
campaign against McDonald's having grown dramatically and
the reasons why McDonald's is being opposed. Then in the
       third paragraph this:

"Recently McDonald's has started trying to --"
