Day 208 - 24 Jan 96 - Page 66
MS. STEEL: Do you remember how often you have had to have a
backdated pay rise because of late performance reviews?
A. A few; not many lately. It would be for quite a while
back. I would say a couple, probably -- I do not know --
three or four, perhaps.

Q. How far back were they?
A. How far back what?

Q. How far back were they backdated, sorry?
A. The one -- when I had two together it would have been
backdated from when I should have had the first one. So it
would have been backdated from then, but ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I think you are being asked when the
last time was this happened?
A. I am sorry; probably back in Alan Charlesworth's time
I expect because, I mean, Phil, who is our Store Manager
now and Dave, they were all pretty good managers and they
were always quite efficient with them; so I would say it is
going back to probably Alan Charlesworth's time, which is
something like two or three years.

MS. STEEL: Actually that is what I was asking. You were right
the first time. To when you should have had the first one
they were supposed to be -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I see. You mean, how much was the back
dating?

MS. STEEL: Yes. They were supposed to be two or four months
apart?
A. Yes.

Q. If you had two at the same time, then, is that what you are
saying, or -----
A. They would have -- I cannot remember personally but I
would have thought they were probably backdated like --
probably, say I had a ten pence pay rise, probably five
pence would have been backdated from when I should have had
the first one.

Q. That sometimes happened that you had two performance
reviews at the same time?
A. I can only remember it happening once.

Q. Right. While you have still got the performance reviews
out, if you could turn to page 110. I hope you do not get
too embarrassed by this.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us just pause then.

MS. STEEL: It is not embarrassing in -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Page 110. Let me turn it up. I see.

MS. STEEL: It says, "Major achievement; you rang supreme among
the crew; your products are spotless" etcetera; "Major
force behind the organisation of crew, training, awareness
of cleanliness problems and organisation of shift change
