Day 009 - 08 Jul 94 - Page 43

     1 myself.

2 Q. Right. You do not know where they are from though?
              A. They are from our records.
     3
         Q. It is just that that chart we saw the other day had 1990
     4 missed out?
              A. That is correct, but we have records for 1990.
     5
         Q. Right. Would you be able to supply those records?
6 A. Yes, we will and I think we will probably make that
part of what we talked about yesterday.
     7
         Q. OK. Still on that page, is it right that tray liners are
8 not used in every country?
              A. To my knowledge, they are used in all countries.
     9
         Q. Right. What is the purpose of a tray liner then?
10 A. To provide a clean eating surface for our customers is
              the primary purpose.
    11
         Q. Does that mean you do not need to wipe the trays down
    12 between each customer?
              A. No, we also do that, but we cannot guarantee -- we do
13 not -- it is not what we would call completely sanitized
to our assurance. So, therefore, that is the purpose of
14 the tray liners so that we can guarantee every time you
want to sit down at McDonald's that you are eating from
15 something that has not been exposed to the environment
              previously.
    16
         Q. But then you are eating out of the sandwich wrap, or
17 whatever it is, the piece of foam anyway, so the food
would not be touching the tray, would it?
18 A. Well, it depends on -- it all depends -- everybody is
different that eats in our restaurants. Many people do
19 open up their wrap and the food never, never leaves the
area of the wrap. Other people do not eat that way. They
20 will spread out their fries, they will spread out their
condiments and ketchup, and they move the food around.
21 They pass it on to their children or other people. There
are just different eating practices. You are correct; one
22 could maintain a meal within a wrap if you eat that way.

23 Q. You are not aware of any countries where McDonald's does
              not use tray liners then?
24 A. Personally, I am not aware of that.

25 Q. Do you use tray liners for pulp trays?
              A. For pulp trays?
    26
         Q. I am a bit confused with this pulp tray business?
27 A. The pulp tray is mainly for drinks. So if you order
drinks and you want to carry them, at any time a customer
28 orders more than one drink, we want to put the two drinks
or three or four drinks into a pulp tray so they can carry
    29 it.

30 Q. So that is not the same as a normal tray; it is not the
              same as a food tray?
