happened in developed countries (and is happening in
comparatively affluent parts of developing countries) can
now be linked to the increased incidence of chronic
disease and to premature death". I think that speaks for
itself.

Q. Is there anything else you wanted to refer to in this?
A. Yes, given the process that will now take place,
I think it is also relevant to refer to two facing pages
that were not put in evidence, which is pages 184 and
185. I have mentioned those already. That is a very
brief tabular summary of the recommendations of six
reports on diet and cancer, most of which have been
mentioned.

Q. We do not have those.
A. I am suggesting is that if this is to be shown to the
Plaintiffs' experts, they should see that. This refers to
reports on diet and cancer which were produced between
1982 and 1987 in Canada, Europe, Japan and the USA.

Q. What pages in the book were they?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: 184 and 185. Since they have been
mentioned, I think we should have photocopies of them.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. You did ask to make a number of copies of
pages between 98 ----

THE WITNESS: In the case of the WHO Report, it might be
simpler just to get a few copies of it. It is available
at HMSO in High Holborn -- at least it was when I was last
there.

Q. If we move on to the next document.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What am I going to do, I going to put your
document V here -- it is better, Mr. Rampton, if I
actually put it in tab 26?

MR. RAMPTON: That is what I have done, my Lord. I have
stuffed it in 97 which I originally had, and I do not know
how far it goes. 127 is the last page in the new piece
and the next page of the original is 156.

MR. MORRIS: Before we leave that document, if we just look at
page 104 that was disclosed as part of your references, at
the top of the page it makes the statement: "The
relationships between cancer and physical activity are
inconsistent and incompletely understood, and therefore
require further investigation." Is physical activity
generally looked into in cancer research?
A. Yes, by some investigators.

Q. It is not considered to be one of the main environmental
factors then for cancer?
A. By some, yes, the evidence is actually quite strong
and I think, if anything, is understated there.
"McDonald's do not manufacture tread mills", I do not
understand the relevance of the question. But perhaps I
