Day 077 - 25 Jan 95 - Page 81

bottom of the page, right-hand side, yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Going north/north west from there, but before you get out
of whatever the thing is called, a box, just to the north
east of San Jose we see Barretos -- I have yellowed it?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Above that, or as part of it, is the state of Minas and
then up by Brazilia is the state of Goyas; to the west of
       Goyas is the Matto Grosso?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Then just south, or coming out of the Matto Grosso is the
Paraguay River, do you see those?
       A. Yes, I do.

  Q. Flowing downwards or southwards, I should say, into
       Paraguay?
       A. Into Paraguay.

  Q. On that map how far north do you think you travelled in
       that day?
       A. Well, I was in an American style car. I would guess
(and I am purely guessing) I must have done 150, 200 mile
       trip.

  Q. Finally this on Brazil, Mr. Walker, while you were in
Brazil did you see or hear, observe, anything to suggest
that the account you had been given of where the beef was
to come from was in any material particular not true?
       A. Nothing whatsoever.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, perhaps we can leave Brazil there for the
       moment?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Could we ask if we can have the original invoices
       overnight?

  MR. RAMPTON: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. If you want to note anything on them,
stick a post-it on them rather than marking the actual
       original.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, Mrs. Brinley-Codd (who claims to
understand them which is more than I do) has offered to
help the Defendants go through them so that we do not spend
a lot of time on what one might call investigative work in
       court tomorrow.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest is when I have risen, if
Mrs. Brinley-Codd gives them to Ms. Steel or Mr. Morris,
and if you would like to ask Mrs. Brinley-Codd anything
about them which, of course, will not in any be evidence in
the case, but just for your information, then, please do
       so.
