Day 006 - 05 Jul 94 - Page 44
1
MISS STEEL: I am just trying to work out where I am.
2
MR. JUSTICE BELL: I asked you whether any employee of the
3 English company was a member of a union?
A. I said they may very well be.
4
Q. They may very well be?
5 A. It is their right to join if they so choose.
6 MISS STEEL: I am just going to back to what we were talking
about earlier about ronald mcdonald's. You were saying he
7 does things like promoting bicycle safety?
A. Yes, normally in conjunction with the police
8 department or school programmes of one form or another,
yes.
9
Q. How frequently does he make appearances?
10 A. Well, there are six or seven Ronalds in Britain used
for personal appearances. I would guess most of them are
11 out somewhere virtually every weekend during the summer
time. I am not familiar with the exact schedule, but
12 I would be surprised if they were not out and about most
every day somewhere.
13
Q. Every day?
14 A. Virtually somewhere, yes.
15 Q. So are those six or seven employed on a full time basis
then?
16 A. No, they have other jobs.
17 Q. Right, OK. In any one day how many stores are they likely
to visit or how many appearances are they likely to make?
18 A. Often times -- well, usually one connected with a
hospital visit, sometimes two restaurants if there is no
19 hospital visit connected.
20 Q. So is that, sort of, two restaurants a day, seven days a
week or what?
21 A. Well, some combination of the personal appearance
Ronald will be out every day. I doubt whether they are
22 all out every day, but during the summer it is likely that
most of them will be out most of the time.
23
Q. Right, OK. You would agree that ronald mcdonald plays a
24 large part in, sort of, awareness of McDonald's?
A. Yes.
25
Q. That when children see him, you know, they think of
26 McDonald's?
A. Yes.
27
Q. You would agree with that?
28 A. Yes.
29 Q. Right. Just to move on now. I think it was last Thursday
Mr. Rampton was asking you about charitable activity?
30 A. It may have been, yes.
