Day 169 - 04 Oct 95 - Page 14
the store. He would go through, for instance, a break down
of our maintenance and repair costs for each month and ask
us why these costs are occurring. If there is any
recurring problem, for instance, we had a recurring problem
with the shake machine, we may end up with a new machine,
and the same occurred with the grease troughs.

Q. But it would take some time before that happened?
A. A couple of months, yes, I should imagine.

Q. This was a problem for over a year.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am going to stop you now and put it myself,
because we can only have so much cat and mouse and there is
a quite clear allegation in Mr. Logan's statement.
Mr. Logan says that the grease trap between two grills was
broken for approximately three months up until him leaving
McDonald's resulting in grease dripping under the grills.
Do you remember any grease trap being broken for about
three months?
A. No, I do not remember any grease trough being broken
for that length of time.

Q. He says that he asked a Manager when the trough would be
repaired and was told that it would have to wait until it
could be afforded. Were you ever asked that by him?
A. No, I was not.

Q. Do you have any knowledge of any question and answer like
that?
A. No, I do not. I find it ludicrous that he should come
up with such an answer. We have a maintenance repair man
who works five days a week; it is very difficult to believe
that he did not have the time or the money was not
available to repair a grease trough which would have taken
minutes, if anything.

Q. He says that having it repaired would have affected profit
and loss for the month?
A. Again that is ridiculous. It is a very cheap repair
and if we needed to buy a new one, we could buy a new one.
And again, I mean, we were paying an M&R man for five days
a week; the idea that we were paying him not to repair
things is just stupid.

Q. Do you have any idea of how much it would cost?
A. I should imagine it would involve him, like he normally
did, just doing a bit of spot welding. As Jagon has all
the relevant equipment, it would be a question of how much
it cost us to pay him in time to do it, which would
probably be about half an hour, I should imagine.

Q. Yes.

MS. STEEL: So, you are saying it was basically patched up and
then after two months eventually some Supervisor said:
"Why do you keep having this repaired? You should get a
new one"?
A. No. What I am saying is it was repaired, it was not
patched up. If there was problem with it, it was repaired
