Day 167 - 02 Oct 95 - Page 19

       A. It is not taught at the moment, I do not think, on the
       Advanced Operations course.

  Q. Until you left was it taught?
       A. No, I mean, the whole session was McPack and things
like that were continually being updated. So, as new
sessions came along and, you know, we changed the courses
to accommodate the business needs and the managers' needs.
But it was taught on the courses for some time, yes.

  Q. Right. OK. Presumably, was it replaced with something
similar or was it just cut out altogether?
       A. The courses changed quite a lot, but it is about
management and leadership styles, the course, and effective
       management.

  Q. The aim with the four strokes was to raise productivity
levels, is that fair to say?
       A. It was to show that if you recognised people for what
they had done and they had achieved, that you get a better
result from them and they are more motivated.

  Q. So you get higher productivity levels?
       A. I guess you could say that, yes.

  Q. Right. I do not know if you could get the management
development programme, I am not sure which bundle it is
       in.

  MR. MORRIS: Pink XII.

MS. STEEL: If you could get that from behind you, please?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have tab 12, have you?
       A. Yes.

MS. STEEL: On page 535, which is about the Advanced Operations
course, it talks about accounts' presentation. It says
that the session provides students with, it has a number of
things, and then it says: "A discussion of current issues
       within McDonald's accounting e.g. burger-nomics and store
rental policy. Can you just explain very briefly what
       burger-nomics is?
       A. I guess burger-nomics is McDonald's average, what
stores would compare themselves to in terms of their Profit
       and Loss statement.

  Q. Right. So there is an average to aim for, or something
       like that?
       A. Well, there is something to compare. It is not
technically the average but that is the easiest way to
       describe it.

  Q. What is the purpose of the comparison?
       A. To see how Managers are -- whether they are being
       efficient with their resources.

  Q. So that would be something they are aiming for?
       A. Yes
