Day 120 - 03 May 95 - Page 59

  Q. Is that the annual audit?
       A. No. No, I think it is an infrequent audit. It is a
supervisory tool. It is another team that go out
unannounced, descend upon a store, go right through its
financial dealings. It is a sort of a policing mechanism.

  Q. Is that like one or two stores a year or something like
       that?
       A. No. Their reports are fairly comprehensive and it is
several stores a week they visit.

  Q. So they just go through the records?
       A. They go through their cash records, yes.

  Q. They would not call the Manager in and ask him to explain?
       A. They might very well; they might ask for an explanation
       on the spot.

  Q. These audits, they are written reports, are they?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What happens to them?
       A. They get distributed to those people who would be
       interested in seeing them.

  Q. Who would that be?
       A. Operational people, Personnel people -- I used to get a
copy; I do not now because my function is different --
Finance people, anyone with any interest in the financial
       running of the organisation.

  Q. Those reports, they include the hours that people worked,
the wages that they were paid and the reasons for any bonus
       payments?
       A. No, it would highlight areas of discrepancy which they
       have found.

  Q. When you say "areas of discrepancy" can you just explain
       what you mean by that?
       A. Well, anywhere that they find something which indicates
recurring faults in the procedures, control of petty cash
       and things like that.

  Q. In terms of wages, can you give us an example of something
that they would report on would be?
       A. No, I have not seen the report for some time now. They
would certainly report on petty cash, the use of petty
cash, the use it was being put to -- all that kind of
       thing.

  Q. Can you actually remember the contents of any of those
       reports?
       A. I can remember some of the things they highlighted.

  Q. In terms of wages?
       A. No, not particularly.

  Q. So you cannot remember anything about wages in the reports
       being -----
       A. What you are suggesting, or what you were suggesting,
