Day 166 - 28 Sep 95 - Page 51

or by Head Office or your Supervisor or anybody?
       A. It is going to tell you maybe a few things. If,
perhaps, you are under-staffed; perhaps you have a
       discipline problem.

  Q. Discipline problem?
       A. People not turning up to work.

  Q. But was any action taken either by you or ----
       A. It depends if it is an isolated person or perhaps not.
If that person who I am working alongside is, say, doing 45
hours, that to me is not an outrageous number of hours.
They, quite possibly, are people who wanted to do those
extra hours, be it for material things or helping out.

  Q. Right. There was not any action from Head Office?
       A. Not that I recall.

  Q. To tell you to stop it happening again, or anything like
       that?
       A. Not that I recall.

  Q. What was the procedure in terms of their wages when crew
worked over 39 hours a week?
       A. They got paid.

  Q. They were just paid the normal amounts, normal hourly
       amounts?
       A. People got paid for what they worked.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Was it time and a quarter or time and a half?
       A. There were three rates of pay back then called basic,
       evening and premium.

  Q. That depended where in the clock they were?
       A. On the times of the day.

  Q. There was no increased rate merely by the fact that you got
over your 39 hours -- I think this is absolutely common
       ground.
       A. Yes. I think -- there was on Sundays, I think.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I really am going to ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He has just said something new.

MR. RAMPTON: Has he? I am sorry.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What were you saying about Sundays?
       A. There might have been perhaps on Sundays, trying to
       think back.

MS. STEEL: But you are not sure about that?
       A. I cannot remember that far back in terms of a specific
       on that.

  Q. There were basically -- their wages would just go through
in exactly the normal way that anybody, any other crew
       member's wages would go through?
       A. Yes.
