avoid any diseases in the animals that will cause -----

  Q. I understood that before but that is the reason?
       A. That is the reason, yes.

  Q. Sealed, as it were, from outside influence?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. And infection and so on?
       A. Yes, most of the diseases are brought into the houses,
       if not all.

MS. STEEL: What do most of the two per cent die from?
       A. Most are culled, they could ------

  Q. Cold, did you say?
       A. Culled.

  Q. Culled?
       A. Yes. They could die. The chicks cannot find their
feed or cannot find their water for whatever reason, they
       could die.

  Q. Why can they not find the feed or their water?
       A. They can just simply cannot find it or they do not
move. Nature is not that perfect. Any animal that are
born does not exactly where the food or the feed is at.

  Q. Is that because they are too small or their legs are not
       strong enough?
       A. That is just Mother Nature. Any animal that is born
does not automatically know where the food and the water is
       at.

  Q. More would die towards the end of the growing period?
       A. No, probably the majority will die at the beginning.

  Q. What percentage suffer from leg problems?
       A. In the US, combined suppliers or Tyson?

  Q. Yes. I mean, in this country I think -- I cannot remember,
to be honest -- it was more than 40 or 50 per cent or
       something?
       A. 40?

  Q. Yes.
       A. No, no, it was 14. You say leg problems?

  Q. Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: No, My Lord, I am afraid that is a
       misrepresentation of the evidence.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is probably just not having got the right
       figure, if it is wrong.

MR. RAMPTON: It is the right figure but it is not right to call
it "leg problems". I think that is why it is misleading.

MS. STEEL: There were two sets of figures.
