Day 180 - 31 Oct 95 - Page 27
MR. JUSTICE BELL: You said did not give a reason.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, did not give that reason for leaving,

MR. RAMPTON: The question I ask, my Lord, is this: how can
Mr. Pearson guess at what the other reasons may be? They
are all written in the chart.

MR. MORRIS: If it is established that a huge percentage, the
vast majority of McDonald's workers are leaving not to go
back to college, and their total turnover is about -- well,
at that time it is 190 per cent; it might be down to
something like 120 per cent now, and that is now about five
times the average for the industry, for their own section
of the industry, which is high in any event. Can you draw
any expert conclusions -- or maybe not -- from that?
A. I would like to, if I may, my Lord, look at the table
in question, which I have studied.

Q. OK. I have got a "D" on it, but I do not remember who it
is behind. It might have been Jill Barnes, I am not sure.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. It was Lynne Mead, was it not?

MR. MORRIS: Yes. If someone can help Mr. Pearson find the
right bundle. It will be a yellow bundle.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us make sure we find it, before we set
Mr. Pearson off on a search.

MR. MORRIS: It should be yellow X.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. It is yellow X, if you do not mind
getting that, Mr. Pearson. Have you got a yellow X?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, it is document D, behind Mrs. Mead's
statement.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you find divider 7, please? If you look
after Mrs. Mead's statement, you will see a number of
documents. I come to one which has a green divider,
"maternity memo". Maybe I have put that in the wrong
place. Should that go at the end, the maternity memo,
after document H, Mr. Rampton, while I am on -----

MR. RAMPTON: Mrs. Brinley-Codd would like your Lordship to put
it behind C, because it is mentioned in C.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is where I have put it at the moment.

MR. RAMPTON: Good.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: (To the witness): If you flip on through the
documents which appear -- you have it. Well done.
A. Page 32?

Q. Yes.
A. My comment on -----

Q. Just pause. (Pause) Yes?
