MR. JUSTICE BELL: What about Miss Villeneuve-Gallez, then,
Mr. Rampton?

MR. RAMPTON: It is all right. It is not perfect English, but
as a translation, I am told, it does very well.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Would you like to read both the
statements in their English translation? I will not put
you to reading them in French.

MR. MORRIS: No. It is just as well. Can I just say that, if
it is any help, I got this statement, the first one,
8th September 1994, and Mr. Lamti's on the same date; they
were in the same envelope, or in the same fax, I think it
was, actually.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When do you think you got Mr. Lamti's?

MR. MORRIS: I think it would have been that same day; it would
have been 8th September, or around that time.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Soon after that?

MR. MORRIS: Soon after that, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause a moment. (Pause)

MR. MORRIS: It is my belief that she wrote this statement
specifically for this case; and, indeed, the other one as
well, her second one.

This is the statement of Chantal Villeneuve-Gallez, of Lyon
in France, 8th September 1994.

"I am an area (swing) manager at McDonald's 'Bellecour' in
Lyon and my work consists of assisting the shift manager,
that is to say, taking responsibility for a particular area
of the restaurant, either the seating area or the kitchen
or the counter. It is my job to ensure the smooth running
of the area I am responsible for. Since May 1993, the date
of the elections of staff representatives in which I was a
candidate, I have been asked to carry out tasks which have
be incompatible with the position of responsibility which
I have held since 1991.

"For example, I am systematically assigned to kitchen duty,
either alone or with one other worker, and am therefore
doing the job of a kitchen worker and not of an area
manager. In the months that followed these elections, my
role became that of a "jack of all trades", at the mercy of
the shift manager, the area managers and even the other
staff, and I was relieved of all my responsibilities.

"Since May 1993 I have never been assigned to the service
counter which is the most satisfying job for an area
manager as it entails the overseeing and organisation of a
team of cashiers, balancing the tills and management of
