     1 union membership at McDonald's?
              A. No, none whatsoever.
     2
MR. MORRIS: You said you take safety very seriously in your
     3 stores?
              A. Yes.
     4
         Q. Matters of breaches of safety, such as serious matters
5 such as broken arms, would be dealt with at a store
              level. However people's -----
6 A. Well, that is not what I said. I said they probably
would not be dealt with by heads of department or regional
7 manager. They most likely would be involved with people,
market managers, someone else. High chances are I would
8 not get to know about them at all.

9 Q. But something as purely personal as people's personal
interests in joining a trade union, which as you said is
10 neither here nor there for anybody else, involves the top
of the department coming down on two separate occasions?
11 A. Listen, you read it to me and I read it to you. He
was called, Sid Nicholson was informed by the store
12 manager. Normally when I am informed about something,
whether it is a telephone call, I either get involved or
13 I charge someone with looking after it. Sid had that
choice to make. He chose to do it himself. There is
14 nothing sinister in that. That is a management judgment, a
management choice. It is perfectly natural as far as I am
    15 concerned.

16 MR. MORRIS: I think we should move on. Well, we are just
seeing if we can tidy up another issue before the break.
    17
         MR. JUSTICE BELL: When I said 4 o'clock I meant 4 o'clock if
18 there were other matters to be discussed, and if not we
will go on until ten past.
    19
MR. RAMPTON: I will have something to say about scheduling.
    20
MR. MORRIS: I have one matter that might take two minutes.
    21
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can the LSM copies be found a place in one
    22 of the exhibit bundles?

23 MR. RAMPTON: Sorry, my Lord?

24 MR. JUSTICE BELL: The LSM documents, if they can be found a
place in one of the exhibit bundles and given A or B
25 numbers or something and I can be told about it.

26 MR. RAMPTON: We can treat them as agreed documents rather than
              defendants' exhibits.
    27
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. The same about the Environmental
28 Protection Act issue which we had yesterday.

29 MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, yes.

30 MISS STEEL: You can put the file away if you want because I am
going to go on to something else. Were you in court when
