  Q. In the British company?
       A. I would be surprised if it was not monitored. Whether
it was every restaurant every month or every year, I do not
know, but it is a figure that we pay attention to.

  Q. Right. I have got a quote from an interview that you made
with The Financial Times which I believe we put in our
pleadings somewhere. I am not sure if we asked you the
first time you were here but do you remember saying in
about September 1987 -- it is in our pleadings actually.
In fact, why do we not look at the pleadings. I have got
it as page 12 of the pleadings in that section. Do you
remember that extra section you had? It is the employment
       abstract.
       A. This piece?

  Q. Yes, that is it. Thank you. I have got page 12, middle
       (c) in the middle page. It is possible of course it is on
a different page. It might have moved?
       A. No, there is nothing there.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is page 20 at the bottom of the page, item
       36.

MR. MORRIS: I do not know if it is.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think that may be what you are referring
       to.

MR. MORRIS: Is it in or about September 1987.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: All right, page 20 then. Can you see a paragraph
       there which says:

"In or about September 1987, Mr. Paul Preston, UK President
of the Plaintiffs, stated to a journalist from The
Financial Times that 'unions were just not necessary' at
McDonald's. He also stated that the unions had a different
way of thinking and if that started to spread within
McDonald's it would be seen in McDonald's results and
       sales."

Do you recall saying that to The Financial Times?
       A. I remember saying what is in the quotes and I believe
it today. As to a different way of thinking and started to
spread within McDonald's, they are not in quotes. I may
have said that, I guess. I may have said other things
surrounding those statements hence they are not in quotes.

  Q. Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The important thing is, at the end of the day
if there is any doubt, you adhere to the parts which is in
quotes today. Would you adhere to the rest of it from "he
       also stated"?
       A. In terms of a different way of thinking, I think at the
time I was talking then, and probably now as well, the
