Day 166 - 28 Sep 95 - Page 48

March, depending if Easter was there. That is another time
       which is ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you have a positive case to put on this,
why not put it to Mr. Atkinson, if only so that I know what
       your target is here.

MR. MORRIS: Just on the last point on that subject, I think,
did you specifically advertise your jobs in the job centre
as temporary jobs? Did it say "temporary staff sought"?
       A. I would expect so.

  Q. You do not remember?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know?
       A. Yes, when you are hiring for the summer period, yes,
May/June time in the lead up to the summer holidays.

  Q. But was that promoted by McDonald's or was it just that
anyone in the job centre near you with half a brain would
realise that, come June time, McDonald's might want to take
on some staff for a couple of months and, therefore, might
suggest that someone who is looking for work should go
round to McDonald's and try for it?
       A. Quite possibly, yes.

MR. MORRIS: If we can leave that subject for the moment. You
were the Manager of the store. The Manager has a number of
different responsibilities -- well, many responsibilities,
       yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You were a chartered accountant at one stage, yes?
       A. No, no.

  Q. I thought you said ----
       A. Office junior.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He did not say that.

MR. MORRIS: I am sorry about that.
       A. That is a little bit off.

  Q. You took your administrative tasks seriously, yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Is there a lot of paperwork to do for a Manager of a
       McDonald's store?
       A. Not necessarily, no. In general, what everything, the
       whole lot?

  Q. Well, in general?
       A. Are you relating back to ----

  Q. Say you have a 40 hour week -- it might be a bit realistic
or unrealistic, that is another question -- but let us say
you have a 40 hour week----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Why not just ask what proportion of his time
he spent shuffling paper rather than on his feet around a
