Day 142 - 26 Jun 95 - Page 35
Q. According to Michael Thorell, you paid for employees 18
years of age and above -- it is in his statement so it can
be checked -- you paid ---
A. Whatever Mr. Thorell would say ------

Q. -- one krona per hour -- sorry, the agreement was 49.20 and
you paid 50.20. So, effectively, you paid something like
two per cent above the minimum wage for that industry?
A. OK. No, my understanding is (and I am not an expert so
you really need to get someone who is a greater expert on
wages in Denmark or in Europe), but my understanding is
that when the wage set in those agreements, the vast
majority of employers pay exactly that. McDonald's, on the
other hand, uses that as a minimum and generally goes above
it.

Q. One krona out of 50 above. Just for the record, that was
1985, those particular rates.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, it does not come from the statement of
Michael Thorell. It comes from the -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I was looking at his statement.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, it is Ilse Neilsen's statement. It is the
statement number 19 of the Civil Evidence Act Notice
statements.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Have you anything more on Denmark?

MR. MORRIS: Just one more question I have to ask.
(To the witness): If you look at No. 21 of the Civil
Evidence Act Notices -- I do not know if you have them --
it is the one in which we had, you remember, Jim Kuhn's
statement, it is yellow XIII.
A. Yes. I have it. Where do you want me to be?

Q. No. 21.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Divider 21, Mr. Stein, Rikke Storm?
A. Yes, I have that. I heard Mr. Kuhn's name.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, sorry. Rikke Storm, I think his statement has
been provided to show the wage rates for under 18's. I
have noticed that he was 15 years old when he was employed
by McDonald's. The employment of people as young as 15
------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think, although it is still Denmark, it is
a slightly different topic so we will carry on at
2 o'clock.

(Luncheon adjournment)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Did you want to ask some questions about
Rikke Storm's statement?

MR. MORRIS: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is yellow XIII, divider 21, Mr. Stein,
