Day 278 - 11 Jul 96 - Page 28
mouthful to keep saying the people involved with London
Greenpeace or the people who attended the meetings of
London Greenpeace when you are trying to, you know, have a
sentence that flows.

The various "we's", as Mr. Gravett said, refers to the
London Greenpeace.

Q. Well, that cannot be right can it? Some of -- the "we" at
the beginning might, in the first paragraph, but the rest
surely refer to the five individuals who have been sued?
London Greenpeace is not being asked to apologise it is?
A. Hold on, hold on. (Pause) Well, I think in the way
that it is used, "sue five of us as individuals", that
means 5 of the people who were loosely associated with
London Greenpeace and the same with the "we will apologise
to them". I mean, that would refer to anybody who was
involved with the campaign. It was not just going to be
"we". Where it says "we are going to fight them every
inch of the way", it was not just going to be the "we" as
in the five people who were being sued. There was no way
that we could have fought the case on our own without the
support and backing of other campaigners and other people
who believe in freedom of speech. And so it is referring
to, in general, the antiMcDonald's movement or
anti-McDonald's campaign.

Q. Is it really, "McDonald's are going to regret ever taking
us to court"?
A. Yes.

Q. What, the anti-McDonald's movement?
A. People in the anti-McDonald's movement, yes.

Q. "Us" is you five, you were the only people that were going
to court, you were the only ones that got writs, you were
the only ones that were asked to apologise?
A. I do not think it makes a lot of difference, but to me
when I read it, it reads, it is talking about anybody
involved with the movement, and we are on one side,
McDonald's is on the other side. McDonald's are trying to
silence their critics, campaigners are trying to fight
back.

Q. Can you then turn, please, to tab 99? Sorry, I am looking
at a different volume now because we have moved forwards a
year, September 1991. Pink 1B, please, at tab 99. Again,
it is on Greenpeace London paper. Somebody has written
"Sept", short for September, 1991 on it. Do you recognise
that writing of Mr. Morris?
A. No.

MR. MORRIS: What are we looking at now?

MR. RAMPTON: September 1991.

MR. MORRIS: "What is wrong with MacDonald's?" leaflet.

MR. RAMPTON: No 1B.
