results of other stores; is that right? Is there some kind
of norm expected as a result from the grades achieved by a
       particular store?
       A. I think you would need to remind me of what I said
because I think there may be a slight misunderstanding.
Certainly, the guideline is that they should achieve a "B"
       grade.

  Q. Achieve?
       A. A "B" grade, but I am not sure what it is that you
refer to in my examination-in-chief about that.

  Q. I am not exactly clear myself.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Forget that. You say the guideline is you
       should get a "B"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Mine is shaded out on the left, but it is 81 per cent or
       above, is it?
       A. That is considered to be the standard.

MR. MORRIS: Just moving on through your examination-in-chief,
you said that the ethnic makeup of the crew, that a survey
had been planned. When was the survey originally suggested
to find the ethnic makeup of the crew?
       A. I do not know when it was first suggested. Certainly
probably two to three years ago, I would have thought, that
it was first considered when we were looking at introducing
it for salaried employees which actually happened. We had
already introduced it for salaried employees by that point.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I assume the question: "I am treated fair
re. race or sex" in H, where 84 per cent agreed, nine were
not sure and seven disagreed, includes white men against
whom it is suggested, perhaps quite wrongly, there is no
discrimination? That must be so? It is everyone answers
that, not just someone who might think that there is a
       reason for .....
       A. Yes, that is right.

MR. MORRIS: You said that some percentage of your part-timers
       are women with children?
       A. Yes, I believe so.

  Q. It is one of these standard lines from McDonald's about
employing students and women with children, both categories
who need part-time work. That is the standard position at
       McDonald's, yes?
       A. What do you mean by a "standard position"? I am sorry,
I do not understand. My observation is ---

  Q. Do you know what percentage?
       A. -- that there are people who work in the restaurants
who fit that bill, if that is what you mean.

  Q. What percentage of employees are women with children?
       A. I do not know. We do not collect that information. At
the moment we do not -----
