Day 031 - 05 Oct 94 - Page 54

       A. Yes.

  Q. Within that group, the work of Dr. Kinland of Edinburgh
and Dr. Morson, the bowel pathologist. The last request
I have is this, Professor Crawford: We do not have your
paper in 1986 based or reflecting the Berzelius
Symposium. Is it possible we should be able to have that?
       A. I cannot make a promise of that because we have moved
on several occasions and I do not know that I still have a
       copy of it.

MR. MORRIS: I actually contacted Professor Peto and they could
       not find a copy either.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Should that be in the BMA Library?
       A. I doubt it. I am not sure that it is terribly
       relevant actually.

MS. STEEL: I went to the Scientific Reference Library
yesterday and I could not find it there.

MR. RAMPTON: May I before I, as it were, abandon this
particular paper, why do you say it is not relevant?
       A. Well, because I think so much has happened since then,
and as it was an ad hoc meeting it was not called -- let
me put it this way, that much has happened since then in
this particular area that might add to the story. I think
there are much stronger statements that have been made
apart from -- there was no particular recommendation made
from that discussion, so it is difficult to know what one
would make of the intimate aspects of the discussion
itself. In other words, we did not sort of sit down and
come to conclusions and publish recommendations or
anything of that nature from the debate. It was primarily
       a debate.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Would you rather that that was taken out of
your statement? Is that what you are saying, because
otherwise, you see, if it stays in as part of your
evidence, Mr. Rampton is entitled to have a look at this
       if it can be found?
       A. Absolutely.

  Q. Do not concern yourself with the date because it is the
allegation in relation to publication of this leaflet, the
publication in late 1989 or ----
       A. Right.

  Q. --- early 1990. That is not to say that developments
since then may not be relevant, but it may be a few years
       out of date anyway.
       A. We always are.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is it something important, Mr. Rampton?

MR. RAMPTON: No, my Lord; it might have been, I do not know.
It seems to bear upon the same interesting line of --
I think Professor Crawford might agree with this.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The bottom of page 8, the top of page 9.
