Day 064 - 08 Dec 94 - Page 71
Q. Tab 41, yes. I hope I am right?
A. Yes, I have it.

Q. Is it document entitled "Greenpeace London"?
A. Yes.

Q. Does it have at the top in manuscript "collected 26.4.90"?
A. Yes, it does.

Q. Can you, please, turn over the page, second page of this
document, and look at the second paragraph under the word
"campaigns". Do you see these words: "Perhaps the most
successful campaign we have initiated in recent years has
been the one against the McDonald's hamburger corporation.
This has become a nationwide and worldwide movement uniting
many disparate campaigners in the aim of smashing a
multinational that epitomises everything we despise - a
junk culture, the deadly banality of capitalism.
McDonald's themselves are so frightened that they are
resorting to threatening legal action - a sure sign we're
winning! For World Food Day 1986 (October 16th) we
produced a factsheet, 'What's wrong with McDonald's', which
is now established as a classic. We've received requests
for copies from all over the world, and many groups have
used it to make their own leaflets. We have also recently
campaigned against another murderous multinational", and I
will not name them.
A. Yes, I see that.

Q. You see that? Do you see anything in what I have just read
you coming from a Greenpeace London leaflet that is,
apparently, in 1986 to cast any doubt upon the answers you
gave to Mr. Morris in relation to the worldwide
distribution of this pamphlet?
A. No, I do not.

Q. Only one other question, Mr. Oakley: These two leaflets?
A. Yes.

Q. Suppose I am a customer and I go into one of McDonald's
stores, where do I find these, broadly speaking?
A. We have information boards sited alongside the front
counter in each restaurant.

Q. So as I am queuing up?
A. As you are lining up at the front counter, they would
be on your left or right.

Q. So I can pick one of these up before I buy my food, can I
not?
A. You can, yes.

Q. Can you think of a practicable way -- suppose you did not
have these, but instead, as Mr. Morris has suggested, put
that information on your food containers, your packaging --
in which the customer might get the information he needs
before he buys his food?
A. No, in the case that Mr. Morris described they would
get it after they purchased their food.
