Day 136 - 16 Jun 95 - Page 17
Q. Right. So you would have concern over where electrical
sockets would be placed and things like that?
A. I would not. That would not be part of my
responsibility. That would be part of the responsibility
of the consultant that we would employ to prepare the
relevant drawings based on the relevant British Standard
requirement.

Q. Do you have any responsibility for the layout design of the
store in terms of how much space was put for the counter
area, how much space was put for the wash-up area, how much
space for the dining area?
A. I would be mainly concerned with the dining area. In
terms of the kitchen area, we have facilities engineers who
work those problems out in conjunction with the Operations
Department. My role as a Remodel Manager is the aesthetics
of the change over from the old to the new. I specify
floor materials in the lobby area; I specify the furniture
that is placed in the lobby areas; I actually do the design
of the lobby areas in terms of where the furniture goes.
My role involves also the decorations to the walls, the
artifacts that goes on the wall; where you made a specific
reference to the lighting, the lighting fitting is
something that is approved by our lighting consultant.

Q. So when you say your responsibility is the aesthetics?
A. Yes, that is why I went to college -- to study design.

Q. OK. Have you ever checked accident books in the stores, in
McDonald's stores?
A. That is not my function.

Q. You have never checked, you have never looked through them?
A. Now and again I get a specific request from the Health
and Safety Department to identify a particular product
which might have been involved in an accident and that is
-- invariably I would give them that information.

Q. But you would not check through an accident book?
A. No, that is not my function.

Q. So when you lay new tiles, do you decide where they should
go?
A. In relation to the kitchen (and I keep reiterating
this), it is a standard policy that we use ceramic floor
tiles out the kitchen. In the designated areas where we
need to have a non-slip floor tile, that is invariably
shown on the drawings and that is invariably constructed by
the Company that is doing the job. It is a standard
procedure.

Q. So these shaded areas on this map that has been disclosed
are now the designated areas for non-slip tiling?
A. Not "now",-- has always been.

Q. There is no such thing as non-slip tiling, is there, slip
resistant?
A. Slip resistant, yes.

Q. Looking at the map, can we confirm that the shaded areas --
