Day 077 - 25 Jan 95 - Page 62

presumably, somebody puts it into sheets or whatever?
       A. Yes. From the time that is the only risk that is
left. From the time the packing girl has put the columns
of burgers in the box, that box is still open while it
travels round to the check weigh scale. Then it is sealed
after it has been weighed. There is still just a thousand
to one chance of a foreign object dropping in at that
stage, so it goes through another metal dectector.

  Q. By this time the burgers have been formed?
       A. They are formed and frozen.

  Q. When your people go and visit the abattoirs, do those
audits, we looked at the form not long ago, do they ring up
       and announce they are coming?
       A. No never, not unless they are going back to recheck
something. Then they will say: "We shall be back again
next week to make sure you have done it."

  Q. Is that a deliberate decision on your part?
       A. Yes. We never announce audit visits.

  Q. Well then, Mr. Walker, I believe we can pass directly to
Brazil, 11 plus years ago, far as I am concerned. There is
just one other question, I am sorry. I do not know what
files you have there. Can you tell me what files you have
       there?
       A. I have got yellow volume 11. I have got pink volume
VIII. I have got pink volume IX and I have got yellow
       volume IX.

  Q. I think then the only one you need now is yellow volume
       11. Again, I ask you to turn to the first tab 5 in that
       file yellow XI, please.

MR. MORRIS: Are we on Mark Pattison's statement?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. It is Mr. Walker's second statement and
the appendices, the ones you got last week.

MR. RAMPTON: It is yellow XI.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He is pulling your tail about Roman
       numerals.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, my belief, and I say this in the most
friendly way, is that Mr. Morris' refusal to master Roman
numerals is entirely wilful and does not spring from any
       inability.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We had better stick to the actual Roman
       numbers.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, XI. Right at the back, the next tab 5, there
are just a couple of documents there that I would like you
to help us about. I should preface it in this way. The
documents within this tab, documents in tabs 1 to 5,
I think came from you, did they not? You will find the
correspondence about the balance sheet beef, copies of some
       invoices?
