Day 093 - 28 Feb 95 - Page 22
their weakened bones would fracture during stunning?
A. No. I do not know if -- in the US, no, that is an
incorrect statement.

Q. Have you seen battery chickens being stunned and killed?
A. Yes. Have I seen it from our suppliers -- no, not from
our suppliers.

Q. You have not seen any of the slaughter process at all for
the battery chickens supplied to McDonald's?
A. That is correct. That is what I said.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You mean for battery hens whose eggs go to
McDonald's, do you?

MS. STEEL: Yes. (To the witness): Does McDonald's use some of
the meat from old battery chickens?
A. No, we do not.

Q. You do not?
A. No.

Q. The people who check up on battery chickens, the stock
people, is it roughly one person for every 50,000 birds?
A. It depends how you measure that. As I explained
yesterday, usually, there is a family that has a husband
and a wife that takes care primarily of the farm that could
have two to three, two to four growing houses.

Q. I thought that was for broilers. I am asking about
batteries at the moment.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. It is not the same situation as you
were asked similar questions about yesterday.
A. I do not know the numbers, to be honest.

MS. STEEL: Would that be typical, one person for every 50,000
birds?
A. I just said I am not sure.

Q. You do not know?
