Day 093 - 28 Feb 95 - Page 47

Q. So should the temperature immediately go down or within
half an hour, or something like that?
A. Oh, it is immediately, a second, one, two seconds, they
kick in.

Q. So why should the house temperature be hot then because,
surely, it should have ----
A. You misunderstand the interpretation of this. "Hot" is
a definition of the range in which those foggers work or
start to work.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well ----
A. It does not specify that it is excessively hot
temperature, it does not say 120, 140 degrees.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I must say the way I read it is that it was a
hot day -- you can see that from outside temperature -- but
instead of the house temperature being kept at a normal
one, it was hot inside. Are you suggesting it means
something different to that? Whether that shows that they
always get their temperature wrong or it just happens that
something had gone wrong on this day or not, I might hear
some argument about it, if it is thought to be important,
but is that not what the form means?
A. Yes, and if there is something that went wrong, it is
documented. On the "Comments" they will normally write if
there is any corrective actions that were taken or any
problems that were seen. The objective of this is to
document the basis, have a base line of information about
the condition of the animals when they leave the farm, so
when they arrive at the slaughterhouse they know what
happens in between.

Q. So you are not willing to accept that it looks as if
something had gone a bit wrong there?
A. That is correct.

Q. Things do go wrong in the best regulated families, you do
not accept that it did?
A. In this particular case, that is correct. If something
had gone wrong, they would have written underneath on the
"Comments" what went wrong and what were the corrective
actions.

MS. STEEL: So this situation would be acceptable to you then?
A. That is correct.

Q. Between normal and hot there is warm; do not these devices
get triggered at that point to bring the temperature back
down to normal?
A. I am not sure and if to what degree if they do. The
fans have different speeds. In this particular case I do
not know the farm, I do not know if they keep it one speed
warm and another one at hot, I do not know.

Q. If you turn to the last page of the report, the Broiler
Service Report?
A. Yes.
