Day 159 - 20 Jul 95 - Page 41

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You do not have to embark on Mr. Giardina's
       statement.

  MR. MORRIS: I understand that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you think you can get something that helps
by all means do so, but there is absolutely no obligation
on you to embark on that at all, it is up to you, in
       cross-examination of Mrs. Farrer.

MR. MORRIS: Do you make it a practice of checking the crew
       notice board?
       A. Yes, I do.

  Q. What, every day?
       A. No, not now because we used to have -- I used to have
my rules in the crew room and I do not now. I have them in
the office or downstairs, but I have read the notice board
       upstairs, yes.

  Q. Sorry?
       A. I have read the notice board, you know, in the crew
       room.

  Q. Say, like, when Mr. Giardina was the Manager, around those
times in the mid to late 80s, would you have checked the
notice board every day or only on occasion?
       A. On occasion I would, yes. I would not check it every
       day.

  Q. Presumably you would visit the crew room every day you were
       working?
       A. Not so much now, I do not go in there, well, just the
three out of four hours I do, but I do go up there quite
       often, yes.

  Q. Say again when Mr. Giardina was Manager, would you have
visited the crew room every day?
       A. Near enough every day then I would have done, yes.

  Q. Did you ever see union leaflets in the crew room?
       A. No, I have never seen any leaflets in McDonald's at
       all, never ever.

  Q. Is that because the Managers would chuck them in the bin
       every time they found any?
       A. I cannot say.

  Q. Is that the sort of thing ----
       A. I think they may have asked who put them there, if they
       ever was put there.

  Q. Would Managers chuck them in the bin if they found some
       union leaflets?
       A. Well, if they did not probably find out who it belonged
to, yes, they probably would I would say. I do not know.
       I do not know when.

  Q. So they would not chuck people's personal property away
without finding out who it belonged to?
