Day 207 - 23 Jan 96 - Page 42

statistically, whether they actually go round the
individual members at the rap session and they ask them and
then divide it by the number of staff. I am not sure how
that is arrived at, or whether they ask the individuals how
often, how many hours they worked.

  Q. If it is an average, it must be that either they are all
working the same number of hours -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Your point must be right in logic. What one
does not know is how literally it is all taken.

MS. STEEL: Right. (To the witness) If you just go on to
page 221, you said in your statement that -- well, if you
just look at the last point, it says: "Why do you think are
the main reasons why crew leave McDonald's?"; and it says:
"Pressured environment." I presume the Company has not
done anything to change that, at the Bath store?
       A. I do not appear to have 221.

  Q. It is not there? It is in file 1. Did you say it is not
       there?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is in section 10, or should be. It is
only four pages further on than the sheet you were looking
at a moment ago. Do you have 221?
       A. I have 221.

  Q. Were you looking at 217 a moment ago, or had you not turned
       that up?
       A. No, but I just answered the question, basically, from
       what you said.

  Q. Just look at 217. Do you have any reservation about any of
the answers you gave, having looked at it?
       A. No.

  Q. 221, then.
       A. 221.

  MS. STEEL: The last answer.
       A. Yes, "pressurised environment". Well, I mean, some
people, obviously, due to the activity within the building
or be it working till, or et cetera, may find it
pressurised. I think that is down to, you know, an
       individual.

  Q. This is what the main reasons are why crew leave
       McDonald's.
       A. Yes. It has also got "moving on to use educational
       qualifications".

MISS STEEL: I do think Mr. Rampton should keep quiet during
       cross-examination.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Try not to give too much evidence,
       Mr. Rampton.

MR. RAMPTON: I am sorry, my Lord.
