Day 099 - 08 Mar 95 - Page 36

Q. Do you have any kind of what one might emergency system in
place in case something like that should happen and you
needed to trace other batches as a matter of urgency?
A. Yes, we do.

Q. How does that work?
A. At two levels. Obviously, there is the initial stage
which is the contacting of the supplier with the
information to retrieve -- to enable us to retrieve the
correct cases. So, there is a system that operates both
during office hours and out of office hours, whereby we
have a series of contact names so that we can relay the
necessary information to the manufacturer who can then take
his code and come back to us within a set time period with
-- for instance, in beef it would be what codes would have
been affected, any other codes apart from obviously the
code that was reported, how many cases were made, where
they were sent, what distribution centres, when they were
sent. So, armed with that information we then have the
ability to stop the product at the distribution centre.

Q. So you identify the suspect batch or batches?
A. Yes.

Q. That can be picked up at Golden West, can it, in this
country, for example?
A. If there is a problem a lot of -- some of the stock may
still be at the distribution centre.

Q. But, I mean, Golden West will know where it has gone, it
will be able to identify through the code number
where -----
A. The supplier can identify which distribution centre it
has gone to. We can then limit the number of restaurants
or have a good indication of what restaurants it has gone
to. We do not know individual restaurants.

Q. Then would you check the individual restaurants on that
list of possibles?
A. They would all be contacted, yes.

Q. They would. I would like to look, or I would like you to
look, please, going back to the pink file at 1B again, but
this time the first page of 1B.

MR. MORRIS: Is that page 16?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, it is the Chicken McNuggets food product
specification again, the one we were looking at earlier.

MR. RAMPTON (To the witness): This is a slightly later
document, Mr. Kenny. Again it appears to originate in the
United States; is that right?
A. That is correct yes.

Q. Here we see that they use "n", "c" "m" and "M" in the
middle of the page, do you see that?
A. Yes.
