Day 122 - 05 May 95 - Page 57

Q. But it could be about other things as well?
A. It could be, but I am not aware of it.

Q. The Company actually keeps payroll information for a long
time, does it not?
A. I think I have put that in this affidavit. "This is
swiped through a computerised time decoder which recognises
the bar code ... (reading to the words)... The information
is then sent electronically ... (reading to the words) ...
Head Office. The Head Office computer records all the
information stored by the store computer. The data is used
to prepare the payroll. Time recording data received from
the store is taken" ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So, it is kept on line for three years
plus -----
A. Three years plus the current year.

MS. STEEL: Why was it you could only give us the hours worked
for 1993, I think it is?
A. Because, well, you have seen the bulkiness of them,
that is as long as they are kept.

Q. Three years?
A. No, that report, the analysis report ---

Q. Yes?
A. -- is only kept for about three months. It could be
regenerated, if it was necessary.

Q. It could be?
A. Well, I should -- it will be certainly, I would have
thought, capable of being regenerated for three years plus
the current year, but it would be an enormous exercise to
do it.

Q. It would just be setting the printer to "go", would it not?
A. No, you would have to regenerate the programme.

Q. Mr. Nicholson, does McDonald's not keep records going back
at least seven years, including payroll information, hours
worked and other details about the crew for tax reasons and
other purposes in archives at Kings Cross run by Securicor?
A. I have never heard of anything at Kings Cross run by
Securicor. I have never heard of Securicor keeping any
records for us other than the pick ups that they do for us
at our restaurants. The information I have given in that
affidavit comes from the head of the department responsible
for maintaining those records and keeping them. I accept
what he says at face value and I have put it in that
affidavit for you.

Q. Who says?
A. The head of the department responsible for creating
those records.

Q. Who is that, sorry?
A. Head of Information Services.
