Day 100 - 09 Mar 95 - Page 54

MR. MORRIS: Maybe we will ask a different witness. I hoped
that Mr. Kenny might be familiar with this kind of
material.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You cannot help us, Mr. Kenny?
A. I am sorry I cannot, no.

MR. MORRIS: Would it concern McDonald's, though, if pesticide
residues were found in their beef products or beef
supplies?
A. Yes, it would.

Q. Presumably that is because again of the same thing with the
antibiotics and hormonal, it would be the potential health
risks from that, would it?
A. They are chemicals, they are undesirable chemicals and
you would not want them in the food chain, exactly the
same.

Q. On that subject has McDonald's ever looked into the
possibility of purchasing organic beef?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just answer that "yes" or "no".

MR. MORRIS: Do you know what organic beef is?
A. I have no idea if McDonald's have looked into that or
not.

Q. Are you aware of what organic beef is, that there are some
shops that sell organic beef which is beef which has
consumed crops not subject to fertilizers and pesticides,
all that kind of stuff? Are you aware that that exists?
A. Yes, I am aware that it exists.

Q. But you do not know of any interest in that by McDonald's?
A. I am unaware of any interest. I would not know.

Q. If there was interest by McDonald's you would know about
it? Would you be asked your opinion?
A. I would probably think so, yes.

Q. Mr. Kenny, could you just explain what you mean by
"spoilage organisms" as opposed to separate from
pathogenic organisms?
A. Yes. Some bacteria will spoil the food. They will not
cause food poisoning to humans, but they may spoil the
food. You are probably familiar with milk souring, for
instance.

Q. But as a rule of thumb, if a dairy product is spoiled then
that is considered to be not fit for human consumption, is
that correct?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is a very broad statement. All those
people in Canada who drink gallons of butter milk would be
very upset to hear that.

MR. MORRIS: Is the answer to that "no" then?
A. Can you ask the question again?
