MS. STEEL: Yes, I know. (To the witness): You have changed
       your story?
       A. I did not think it was that important, whether they
were slightly spread apart or whether they were on
different tables. It could have been two piles; it could
have been one pile. "A pile" is a figure of speech.

  Q. If there was a pile of so-called McDonald's McFact cards --
I am sure you must have seen them; they are available in
       most of the stores ---
       A. Yes, I have, yes.

  Q. -- sitting on the table of the crew room, would you just
throw all of them in the bin as environment/index.html">litter?
       A. No, I would put them back where they are supposed to
       be.

  Q. Somebody might have wanted to keep those leaflets that you
       saw in a pile on the table that you just threw in the bin;
you did not take any steps to find out who they belonged to
and ask them if they wanted them back; you just threw them
       away?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. You said you did not investigate the matter but you asked
two of your Managers if they knew anything about the
       leaflets?
       A. Yes, basically, in a meeting or any sort of little
meeting with one Manager, two Managers or five Managers,
you would discuss what has happened the previous week.
I just mentioned then. The Managers said they do not know
nothing about it -- end of story.

  Q. So it was brought up at a management meeting?
       A. Between three of us, yes.

  Q. Would that be with the First and Second Assistant Managers?
       A. I cannot remember, to be honest with you.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Was there anything which made you think it
was anything to do with McDonald's rather than some outside
matter? I mean, when you saw it on the notice board
itself, but seeing the leaflets on the table?
       A. It is very difficult to explain. I have got a lot of
pride in every single room in that restaurant. Now, as far
as I am concerned, if there is absolutely anything, it
could have been a newspaper cutting, it could have been
anything, it still would have been treated exactly the same
       way.

MS. STEEL: So if you found a pile of papers which appeared to
be one of your employees' notes from their studies at the
North London Polytechnic, you would just throw them in the
       bin?
       A. No, those sort of things, if they were books or
anything of any value, obviously, someone's handwritten
work that obviously relates to their work, then, no,
       I would not do that.
