Day 193 - 28 Nov 95 - Page 08
would have failed public school.

Q. I understand. But with people who have just gone on up the
school, grade by grade ---
A. Yes.

Q. -- without dropping back? You would be rather older than
average for your year?
A. Would I -- no, I would not be; I would be younger for
my grade level, because I was born in October.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is why I asked the question, because if
it was done by age at the beginning of your year, since
your birthday fell early in the year, I would have thought
you were older than average; and someone born in about
February or March would be about average, and someone born
in May or June would be young.

MS. STEEL: Does the school year start at the same time?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It starts, you told me, at about the end of
the first week in September?
A. Right. But since I am born later in the year in
October, I am one of the last to turn like in grade -- a
lot of people had their driving licence, for instance, in
grade 10, whereas I could not get it until grade 11,
because of my age. You understand what I am saying there?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There we are, Mr. Rampton. I have rather
interrupted things, but I have made the point that the age
of the people concerned may be significant, if the point is
to have any significance at all.

MS. STEEL: I do not know whether this is very clear, but
I think there is bit of confusion between the witness
and -- is it on your age at the beginning of the calendar
year or at the beginning of the school year?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, I do not know. I mean, the witness has
told me she is young for her year, and I accept that from
her, however it is worked out. Yes, Mr. Rampton.

MR. RAMPTON: (To the witness): Do you remember recruiting
Sean Heggie, Miss Inglis?
A. Yes, I do, I believe.

Q. Do you remember telling him that if he joined the union he
would get a five to 10 per cent wage increase?
A. No, I did not say that.

Q. Did you ever mention figures to any of these people?
A. No.

Q. Do you remember recruiting Scott Hunter at 1.30 or 2 in the
morning on the lawn of your house, in late August?
A. Yes.

Q. Did you tell him that he could get his card back whenever
he asked for it?
A. No, I did not.
