Day 005 - 04 Jul 94 - Page 19

1 Q. We will not go into that.
              A. When we launched the McChicken Sandwich, I suppose,
2 after all the work the purchasing department put in and
I put in and others put in, we hoped and prayed it would
3 be successful and bring a greater balance to the diet.
I rather thought that I had some dreams along the route
4 saying: "I hope we are successful".

5 Q. How old were your children when you first started taking
              them to McDonald's?
6 A. Well, they were both born here. The first one went to
              the United States about a year after she was born;
7 I suppose a year, year and a half, maybe two. Her
favourite when she could eat semisolid food, or begin to
8 hold on to things and eat, was to hold a French fry and
gum it to death, or filet-o-fish which was very soft and
9 she, with her few then teeth, could consume that. That
              was her favourite.
    10
         Q. But one and a half to two years, you say?
    11 A. I think so.

12 Q. So that was before they were old enough to make the choice
              for themselves?
13 A. Well, they could be pretty pernickety about their
eating. If she did not want it, she would close up those
14 jaws and nothing was going in. I suppose in a way she
could choose if she wanted to.
    15
MR. JUSTICE BELL: It was not her choice you went to
    16 McDonald's?
              A. No, it was my choice; it was her choice whether she
    17 ate.

18 MISS STEEL: Have you got the leaflet in front of you?
              A. Which one?
    19
         Q. The one which is the subject of the action?
    20 A. Yes.

21 Q. I think you told Mr. Rampton the other day that the
description given in the fact sheet of an average
22 McDonald's meal, in your opinion, did not adequately
              describe McDonald's food.
23 A. Where are we looking?

24 Q. Or did not accurately describe McDonald's food. It is
under "What is so unhealthy about McDonald's food?" The
25 second paragraph but just before "Fast = junk"?
              A. Just before.
    26
         Q. Above "Fast = junk", the second paragraph?
    27 A. Yes.

28 Q. "What they do not make clear" -- I think you said that you
did not think that was an accurate or adequate description
    29 of McDonald's food?
              A. I am sorry, I am not getting what are you saying.
    30 There is a -----
