Day 267 - 21 Jun 96 - Page 36

       A. I cannot recall. He may have done.

MS. STEEL: You have said that he mentioned the Organic Press
       Printers?
       A. In that case, yes.

MR. MORRIS: So, you are saying that Paul did not know the name
       of the printers?
       A. I am saying that, on that night, I made a note of
       Organic Press.

MS. STEEL: Why do you not admit you got it wrong, Mr. Claire?
       A. Because that is what I made a note of and that is what
       I am relying on.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I do not believe I am objecting very
much, but this really is a little unfair. They are both
standing up and they are firing alternative questions.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. One of you must sit down and one of you
must ask a question. When you ask questions, do not
necessarily assume that the witness is mistaken. It is not
particularly with regard to this because you are suggesting
something which he may not know one way or the other
       about.

MS. STEEL: (To the witness): Perhaps you would like to look at
the notes of Mr. Pocklington for the 15th March, 1990?
       A. At what page, please?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Page 99.
       A. Thank you.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: By the way, if at any stage in the future
you are going to make submissions to me referring to these
notes you must have the bundle page numbers. You must go
to the bother of finding what they are and put them on your
documents so you can say "Please look at page 99". It just
adds half as much time again when one has to look at the
dates and it will not take you long to do. If I could be
bothered to do it late one evening, you can.

MS. STEEL: Perhaps you did not have to prepare for the next
       witness, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Maybe, but I think it took me about 12
minutes to do the whole bundle.

MS. STEEL: Mr. Pocklington's notes ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We have wasted more than 12 minutes looking
       for the pages.

MS. STEEL: Mr. Pocklington's notes say: "Most of the meeting
was spent in description of various events at poll tax
meetings, in particular at the Hackney Poll Tax meeting
which had occurred on the 8th March, 1990. The vandalizing
of the McDonald's restaurant on that date was mentioned but
Paul Gravett and Helen steel, who has been actively
involved in the antipoll tax demonstrations, claimed not to
