Day 158 - 19 Jul 95 - Page 14

the moment, so it may not be the fullest application.
I think it is a fairly simple matter. So if there is
anything which you feel that I may have left out that you
can recall that might help you, then if you could indicate,
       that would help.

The first thing is -- I did not have time to retype it --
I wanted to clarify what the amendment is by changing some
of the wording. Does everyone have a copy of the proposed
       amendment?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. I have a copy of the sheets of paper
which start: "Destruction of the Environment, tab 1", and
       I numbered them 1 to 5.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. It is number 1 we are concerned with.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Tell me what alterations you want, and I will
write them in on top of -- if you take it very slowly,
I will write it in on top of what I have.

MR. MORRIS: On the second line, omit "and much supplied by
Braslo Limited", and after "land", the first word on that
line, add "or raised in regions" -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Where are you?

MR. MORRIS: Sorry. "Brazilian beef, some originating from
cattle raised on ex-rain forest land", omit the next phrase
and replace it with "or raised in regions" -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: This is before "has been supplied", is it?

  MR. MORRIS: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: "Or raised" -----

MR. MORRIS: "....in regions causing the displacement of peasant
farmers into Amazon forest areas"; and then it continues as
printed: ".....has been supplied to McDonald's, including
McDonald's UK". Then add a very brief sentence there,
       which is about six words.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: After "UK"?

  MR. MORRIS: After "UK".

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: "Suppliers have included Braslo Limited and Vesty
Limited". Then it continues as printed, except for --
I think I indicated this last time -- "this beef" should be
changed to "Brazilian beef". Then it continues as printed
to the end of the sentence: "Brazilian beef is being used
by McDonald's stores in Brazil", etcetera, full stop.

Then the next sentence "Plants supplying the McDonald's
beef" -- instead of "said beef" -- "have included"; so add
the word "have". Then it continues up to the end of the
line after that: "Mato Grosso En Goias regions", then add
