Day 134 - 13 Jun 95 - Page 62

       familiar with.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Does it really matter?

MS. STEEL: It does actually. One of our witness was
effectively constructively dismissed for becoming pregnant.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That may be. I will listen carefully to
whatever the witnesses say, but in that eight months in
question, there were five in London and South; four in the
Midlands; 21 in the North -- a total of 30 women out of
23,376 people who left who left for maternity reasons. If
the particular woman you are calling was badly treated,
I will listen to that and see if it is indicative of some
general trend. But I am really not going to be able to
draw any conclusions as to trends from the presence of 30
       cases.

MS. STEEL: I was not asking questions about the trends. I was
asking questions about the Company's attitude to women
       becoming pregnant ---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: She says she cannot remember the memo.

MS. STEEL: -- crew members becoming pregnant.
(To the witness): The other thing I wanted to ask was, the
second page of this, the chart, at the bottom of it it has
"page 32". What is that part of?
       A. I am not certain, but I think it is part of the
document of which you see some pages, you know, the one
survey of retail wages and so on, that one which is the one
we have been discussing, 93, effectively, November 92.

  Q. Right.
       A. I think that is probably the later pages of that.

  Q. That was the one all about ---

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: G2?
       A. Yes.

MS. STEEL: -- crew employment basically?
       A. I think it would have been headed "Crew Pay Survey" or
something like that, but it will have demographic
information like this. I mean, again that is something
I can check but I think that is what this document is for.

MR. MORRIS: A question related to that, just in the G2, at the
back of G2 -- am I the only one who is confused on this --
there is the Catering Review Group survey. Is that
different from the rest of G2? It is a completely
       different survey, is it?
       A. It is part of the same internal survey, but the source
of the information is a different source, we referred to
this morning, than the document that you have there in that
brown plastic thing. That is what earlier on -- I think it
was actually Mr. Rampton who said it, but that is the thing
from which we do not now have the papers we worked from.
We did happen to have those but we do not have them for
       them.
