Day 267 - 21 Jun 96 - Page 47
Q. You were aware, having come to meetings, that the lesbian
and gay switchboard only let in named individuals who they
had a list of. They would not have let in just anybody who
said they were from London Greenpeace?
A. I am not aware of any list, but they did let me in.

Q. So you hit lucky, did you? Just happened on that
occasion?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He cannot possibly ask that because he is not
accepting what you have put to him.

MS. STEEL: That is because he is lying.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He says he does not know about that, in
effect. So you cannot go on and ask him to draw the
inference that he hit lucky.

MS. STEEL: Lesbian and gay switchboard--

MR. RAMPTON: May I just say something? Miss Steel has just
said the witness is lying. He may or may not be lying,
that is up to your Lordship and his conscience, but what
matters about this is whether there is a challenge as to
the authenticity of the photographs, and that I am waiting
to hear.

MS. STEEL: That is not a relevant thing to come out what
happened on this date -- so if you do not mind. Lesbian
and gay switchboard were very security conscious, were they
not, because they were conscious of attacks from fascists
and other people?
A. I do not know.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know anything about the lesbian and
gay switchboard's attitude to letting people in?
A. I knew they were there, sir, I knew there was an entry
phone system there. They may have had problems, but I do
not recall problems.

MS. STEEL: You do not recall it being discussed at the
meetings? Reference to the fact that not any old person
had to get in, you had to give a specific name in order to
get in?
A. It may have been. I do not recall that.

Q. What time of day was it that you went there?
A. I do not remember. It would have been -- I am
guessing, it would have been evening, early night.

Q. Do you know how long you were in the office?
A. A matter of minutes.

Q. A matter of minutes. How many minutes?
A. However long it would take, necessary to take those
photographs.

Q. How long did it take you to get in with the 'phone card?
A. Seconds.
