Day 258 - 07 Jun 96 - Page 61
was limited to the high street.

Q. So, if we had photographs -----
A. It is never used.

Q. -- at another time of people walking in to that front gate,
sorry, to that front door -----
A. The only time that is used -- it is alarmed,
permanently alarmed -- the only time that is used is if we
switch off the alarm for some particular reason. It is
never used except for, you know, Terry Carroll had a
demonstration in '88, '89, '90 he would switch the alarm
off so he could come in and out of that entrance. But,
apart from that, that entrance is never used.

Q. Are you trying to tell the court that the security camera
system at McDonald's Headquarters does not focus on any---
A. It probably does.

Q. -- place near the front entrance in the street and where
the cars come out, that whole area?
A. No, where the cars come out, that is covered.

Q. Right.
A. The next point covered are the main entrances to both
the Head Office and Hamburger University, and then there
are cameras at the rear of the building covering the fire
escape entrances.

Q. Your security monitors, if somebody was to, say, rob
Headquarters, they would be there for identification
purposes, would they not?
A. Yes.

Q. So, knowing that you were trying to identify people on the
picket in October 1989 for potential litigation, the
security monitors that caught any protesters, or whatever,
could be useful?
A. You would be much better, as we were, with a camera on
the ground.

Q. Yes, a camera?
A. You get much better pictures.

Q. But we are talking about, apparently, only about whatever
it was, 20 odd pictures, are we not?
A. I am not sure. I cannot remember how many pictures
were taken.

Q. Whatever it is, whereas a video can show activities over a
long period of time?
A. They are not good pictures.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, what he is saying is if you wanted to
video the demonstration you would be much better with a
camera on the ground, as they did later.

MR. MORRIS: Right. You were in charge of that picket, were you
not, and the arrangements for that particular
demonstration?
