Day 185 - 07 Nov 95 - Page 47

       A. His father, from his father. Because his father is
involved with the unions I figured he knew more than
       I did.

  Q. Did you know what his father's involvement was with unions?
       A. The way I understand, he works with the union at the
       job he worked at.

  Q. But he is not in the union?
       A. No, he is not in the union, not as far as I understand.

  Q. He is resisting the union at the job that he works?
       A. I do not know if he is resisting it or if he is for it,
       I do not know.

  Q. So Chris Broom told you what his father had told him about
the impossibility of getting the benefits that had been
       promised by -----

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: No.

THE WITNESS: Chris's dad did not know anything about the union
       at the time.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He said: "There was no way they could
       promise us these things".

MR. MORRIS: So did you then go back to Sarah and Rui and say:
"Yes, I am impressed by these benefits, will we get them
all automatically or will we have to campaign for them or
       negotiate?"
       A. On the Friday?

  Q. At any time?
       A. No, on the Friday when I found out, I was so mad that
she had lied to us that I did not want anything to do with
the union, I did not want anything to do with her.

  Q. She had lied to you that the benefits would be something
that would definitely occur rather than something that
would have to be negotiated and campaigned for?
       A. Well, that is not the first time she has lied to me.
She has lied to me her whole life since I have ever known
       her.

  Q. We are not talking about a whole life, are we? We are
talking about you never having been told anything about
unions in your whole life, even though you spent five years
at McDonald's, and then Sarah bringing up the issue, yes,
telling you about the kind of things that unions want to
achieve; you being impressed by those kind of enhanced
benefits and then suddenly after Chris Broom's father says
something to him which he tells to you in McDonald's,
suddenly Sarah is a liar and the whole world caves in.
       What did he tell you?
       A. Chris Broom's father did not directly tell me anything
about the union at McDonald's. He did not know anything
about it. His father has been telling him little bits and
pieces from when he comes home from work, like any parent
does with their child. Chris just said to us that there is
