MR. JUSTICE BELL: There is nothing there which clashes with
your recollection?
A. No. But in terms of doing the job of a supervisor,
I got promoted probably the next month, so I would not have
necessarily -----

MISS STEEL: Prior to that date, when the Company-wide pay
increases came round, the employees would go back to the
basic rate without any added bonus that they were getting
for good performances?
A. No, no, absolutely not. They would not go back to the
basic rates; their wages would increase. But if they had
the 15 pence differential prior to that pay rise, that may
well have only been -- it would have brought everybody on a
level playing field. It not have gone down at all, but
they certainly would have got a pay rise, absolutely right;
their wages would have gone up.

MISS STEEL: But they would have lost their wages differential?
A. Yes.

Q. So, at the time of the annual pay review in June, all the
crew would be back at the starting rate?
A. No, no. Sorry. I know it sounds sort of complex but,
basically, those people who were below the rate, say, for
example, let us just assume £2.10 -----

Q. OK. Unless their previous differential was higher than the
new basic rate?
A. Yes.

Q. Right. But if they had a 20 pence differential or a
30 pence differential and the basic rate went up 50 pence,
they would all be back to the starting rate, all of those
ones?
A. In that example, certainly.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: They either lost the whole or part of their
differential, but from June 1987 onwards they did not?
A. Yes.

Q. They kept their differential on top of the basic increase?
A. Yes, sir.

MR. MORRIS: We have had figures accepted by, I think, it
was -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we put that away?

MR. MORRIS: That particular document, yes.

MISS STEEL: Maybe leave it on one side.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Put it on the side table, Mr. Stanton.

MR. MORRIS: We have had documents and evidence, I think it was
from Jill Barnes -- and Mr. Atkins can remind me --
documents over length of service of McDonald's employees
