Day 151 - 10 Jul 95 - Page 53

  Q. I am saying the law as existed, that I believe has now been
       changed?
       A. We work within the ramets of the law. It is not for me
to decide whether or not that law is good, bad or
indifferent. We could run a successful business then, we
can run a successful business now, within the framework of
the legal requirements of this country. To suggest
       otherwise is just crazy.

  Q. You said in your statement that after a prosecution -- this
is point 7 which I am still looking at, in your first
       statement ---
       A. Right.

  Q. -- which you referred me to. "I recall that after a
prosecution in Luton, the Company made it a major priority
to see that this did not happen."

Surely it should have been a major priority to see it did
not happen before the Company was prosecuted?
       A. That is not for me to say. This happened before
I joined. I can only tell you my recollections and
experiences from when I joined the Company. I am pretty
sure that the Luton incident was before I joined, probably
1982 or something. I did not join until -- well, 1983
I joined. So to ask me to comment on that is probably not
in my remit. Afterwards, we certainly paid full and
diligent attention to it, when I was the supervisor and
manager; that I can tell you.

  Q. There were other prosecutions, were there not, in the 80s,
       just after you joined?
       A. Not that I am aware of.

  Q. Can you clarify the taxi paid out of petty cash?
       A. Right.

  Q. When something is paid out of petty cash, it is put down as
       "miscellaneous", is it?
       A. No.

  Q. How does it work, then?
       A. There is an item for the description of a goods or
services that has incurred that expenditure. So in this
       case it would say "taxi".

  Q. I think I have finished with your statement for the
       moment.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you want a few moments to take stock, we
will take our five-minute break here.

MISS STEEL: Can I just ask something?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: Based on what Mr. Stanton said on Friday about
scheduling, I drew up a schedule, but I wanted to give it
to the witness and ask him to say if there was anything
