Day 192 - 27 Nov 95 - Page 61

got that page? It is a bit of a struggle, I know.
       A. It is 94A?

  Q. 94 is the tab number. Just look at the stamped page
numbers at the bottom of the page, and you will come to
1576. It is just over halfway through the file. Yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You see that it is dated 12th October?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Somebody has miswritten "1993". It says: "We wish to
withdraw our support for the Service Employees
International Union and we want to have our cards back."
You cannot read all the signatures, but on that page and
the next there are 39 names; yes?
       A. Mmm.

  Q. Were all those 39 people intimidated in the course of a
weekend into signing this petition ---
       A. I do not know.

  Q. -- Miss Inglis?
       A. I do not know.

  Q. What is your explanation? It is a bit extraordinary, is it
       not?
       A. Some of -- I imagine some of these people did not sign
union cards in the first place.

  Q. Some of them -----
       A. Some of them probably did not sign union cards in the
first place. You know, some people do not like unions,
       which is fine.

  Q. I am right, am I not, that by October 11th -- that is to
say, about nine days later -- 39 people or so had written
into the board, saying that for various reasons they had
been misled and harassed by you into signing cards which
they wanted back, had they not?
       A. I think so.

  Q. Yes. I am going to ask you something about the
circumstances in which you signed up some of these people.
I will leave Sabina Iurillo on one side for the moment.

Michelle Wetli, first of all; you signed her up, I think,
on Monday, 27th September, did you not?
       A. I believe so.

  Q. You called at her house, having telephoned in advance, just
before she was going to work?
       A. I am not sure if I called that morning or the evening
       before.

  Q. Anyway, you came to the house at about nine o'clock or just
past 9 o'clock on that morning, did you not?
       A. I believe it was before 9 o'clock.

  Q. You knew that she had to be at work by 10 o'clock?
