MS. STEEL: How far in advance was the party planned before it
took place? Was it about a month or just a couple of
       weeks?
       A. It must have been a few weeks now. I do not really
remember that, how far it was.

  Q. It does not matter too much. But anyway, as far as you are
concerned, after that time things were OK, were they? All
the problems were smoothed over, sorted out and everyone
       was happy?
       A. Yes, that is true.

  Q. Can you turn to page 775, please? This was about seven
       months later?
       A. Right.

  Q. Who is Jim Dawson?
       A. Jim Dawson, he works for McDonald's. I do not know his
       designation.

  Q. In Head Office?
       A. In the Head Office, yes.

  Q. Who is Bill Austen?
       A. Bill Austen also works in McDonald's Head Office.

  Q. Have you seen this note before?
       A. I do not recall this note; it might have been, I do not
       recall it.

  Q. "Whoever is working for you at the above Kings Road left
rubbish on pavements and antagonising neighbours/the
restaurant. When complained to they were rude". What do
       you know about that?
       A. I can only, by reading that letter, I can only
       speculate because -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, that was not the question, you see. You
may be asked to speculate in a moment, but you are asked
what you know about that. The first thing is to decide
whether you know anything at all and, if you do, then to
say what you know. We have had an awful lot of speculation
in this case. You may be asked to speculate if you say
that you do not know anything. If you do know something
then it is a lot better than speculation.
       A. I do not remember.

MS. STEEL: You do not remember anything about this?
       A. No, I do not.

  Q. If complaints are made to Head Office by members of the
public about a specific McDonald's store, do those
complaints get passed on to the store or what?
       A. Yes, they do get passed on to the store.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think we should say in the better copy in
the left-hand corner it has "5.6.92 discussed and advised
JD of" and then it is "PS", something, so it may be short
for "position". Did anyone get in touch with you about a
