Day 185 - 07 Nov 95 - Page 67
and Bonnie had already told him about this then?
A. Yes, originally I was going to go down with Sabina that
day, but I could not get rid of my shift so I worked.
I wanted to go in with them to talk to Cam but they did
before I got off my shift. So I knew they had spoken to
him already. It was already planned out on Sunday, the
night before, when it was put together to go down.

Q. So, why did you feel that you had to go and tell him as
well, because he already knew?
A. I wanted to go in and tell him that I was involved in
it too, that I signed a card that I did not want to. But I
signed the card and I am trying to get mine back, so he
knew that I was trying to get my card back as well.

Q. That was because you were in fear of losing your job if he
thought you were a union supporter?
A. No, it was not. I have always been honest with Cam.
I did not want to start being dishonest with him then.

Q. Were you just going in so that he knew that you were on his
side then?
A. No, I just wanted to tell him that I had signed a card,
that I want my card back just so he knew what was going
on. I do not know what -- I do not even know what Bonnie
and Sabina told him. I knew they told him there was a
unionisation attempt, but I did not know what else they
said to him.

Q. When you say you gained the impression that the first he
had heard of the attempt was when Sabina and Bonnie told
him about it, how did you gain that impression?
A. Because when I walked in to talk to him he still had a
shocked look on his face. They only talked to him about 15
minutes before my shift was over.

Q. When you walked in he was sitting there mouth agape, was
he?
A. Not like that, no, but it is hard to explain him, but,
you know -- it is just like you can tell his -- like what
kind of mood he is in, if he is shocked, if he is happy, if
he is sad, you can tell. He is just that type of person,
and I have known different feelings from him before.

Q. Were you asked by Cam or by Mr. Broom or somebody else in
management to put this in your statement to help him out?
A. Nobody knew I was writing the statement until it was --
that I had written the statement until we knew for sure we
were coming here, and by that time I could not change it.
It was done.

Q. You had spoken to Cam before you wrote this statement
because he asked you to be a witness here?
A. Yes. Cam asked me if they needed me if I would be
willing to come and testify and I said "yes".

Q. That was also to testify that Mr. -- sorry, that
Mr. Ballantyne was just an innocent bystander in this
dispute and he had nothing to do with the petitions or the
letters or ----
