Day 102 - 13 Mar 95 - Page 67
that is all.

MR. RAMPTON: I am not aware that I made any disparaging remarks
anyway. The question was why the appointment should be
tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock instead of one the free
days which are free next week, that was all.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There have been difficulty with doctors being
ill and locums, etc.

MR. MORRIS: Can I ask one further question? We would like a
decision on the Easter break as soon as possible. I do not
know if you have decided yet?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: In principle I do not propose to sit during
the last three days of term, but I am not prepared to say
now we will not sit for the simple reason if we had a short
over-run and the choice was between going on into Monday or
something like that and having someone come back weeks
ahead, I would prefer to finish. I would like you to take
the same approach as you did to the half-term holiday if
you can. I do not want to enquire into what domestic
arrangements you make. In principle that is my decision
but I would like you to try to arrange some cover unless we
run over.

MR. MORRIS: Also the extent of the break because we had
specifically asked for four weeks.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I did not see any magic in four weeks.
I would like to start on the date which I gave when I would
be sitting again. If there is a specific reason for having
time after we start again -- I think we are then back in
term time, are we not?

MR. MORRIS: Yes. It is not to do with that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is nothing to do with your problem?

MR. MORRIS: It is do with wanting a holiday really.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you raise it with me again towards the end
of the term I will consider it, but I would like to start
again at 2 p.m. on whichever ever day it is that
I mentioned. I think you are probably served by having the
short breaks we have had at crucial or critical points
rather than just say extending an Easter vacation to a
specific period of time. I would want to see how we go
with your witnesses. I do not think I have actually been
given a schedule for post-Easter? You gave me a verbal
one.

MR. RAMPTON: I do not know whether your Lordship has one.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us not deal with it now. Mr. Morris
wants to get away.

MR. RAMPTON: I do not believe there is going to be any
difficulty in finishing the Defendants witnesses.
