Day 060 - 02 Dec 94 - Page 47

Q. In what form?
A. In what form? We asked them what the current
percentages of recycled material was in their packaging.

Q. You asked them?
A. And they gave us the answer.

Q. Right. So this was over the telephone or something like
that?
A. No, I do not think so. It would have been conducted by
the person responsible in the UK department for packaging
in conjunction with Perseco in meetings with the
suppliers. Now, obviously, the figures quoted here were
updated figures. We had previously had figures from each
of these suppliers as to what their current recycled
content was, but these were updated numbers which were
prepared for this statement.

Q. What, they have some kind of record of the recycled
content?
A. Oh, yes.

Q. They do?
A. Yes.

Q. Do you know when they started keeping records of the
recycled content?
A. Well, it depends when they started recycling and they
vary, as you can see. Some were as early as 1981, some
were later, but they are all various dates.

Q. That figure of 1981, that is just what they told you, was
it?
A. Yes.

Q. You do not have any personal knowledge about that?
A. No, we do not, no.

Q. That would have been Perseco that told you that, was it?
A. Not in 1981, no.

Q. Who would have told you that?
A. Our own Purchasing Department in meetings with the
suppliers at that time would have found out that
information. Perseco were not involved, as you know, until
1990.

Q. So where did you get the figure of 1981 one from in
paragraph C?
A. Directly from the supplier.

Q. Which company was that?
A. Alex Popper.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Alex Popper, did you say?
A. Sorry?

Q. Was that Alex Popper?
A. Alex Popper, yes.
