     1        can be part of a well balanced diet.
 
     2   Q.   When you say "part of a well balanced diet", you have told
              us you are not a health store and that you do not say:
     3        "Come get our healthy products".  Would it be fair to say
              that, basically, the view you were trying to put over --
     4        was the view you were trying to put over that, you know,
              it was OK to come to McDonald's just once in a while as a
     5        treat, or were you trying to convey something more than
              that?
     6        A.  I think the advertisements from my perspective speak
              for themselves.  I think once again that the theme which
     7        ran through the advertisements was that you can eat
              McDonald's at any time as part of a well balanced diet.
     8        Come to McDonald's; get a salad, get hamburgers, french
              fries, have one of our low fat milk shakes.  It is part of
     9        any diet.  It does not mean you should have it three times
              a day, 21 times a week.

         Q.   How often would you say it was all right to eat McDonald's
    11        food?
              A.  I cannot give you an answer to that.  I can tell you
    12        how often I eat it, which is every day.
 
    13   Q.   I do not know whether that is much help.  Often you do not
              know whether people are healthy until they are dead!

         MR. JUSTICE BELL:  We cannot go down that line.

         MS. STEEL:   Would you say that your food is actually
    16        nutritious and something that is good?
              A.  Yes.  I think our food offers nutrition and I think
    17        our food is good.
 
    18   Q.   We touched on this yesterday:  I was asking what you meant
              by nutrition.  I am still not clear, so I do not know
    19        whether you could explain?
              A.  Once again I am giving you a personal --  I am an
    20        attorney by training, I am not a nutritionist.  I have no
              nutrition training whatsoever.  Our food offers nutrition
    21        and our food is good.  I believe our food is good, good
              for you and you can eat it in moderation.  If you looking
    22        to adjust your -- to stay low in fat, you can have our fat
              free apple bran muffin for breakfast.  You can have a
    23        salad with low cal. fat for lunch.  You can have a regular
              hamburger and a low fat milk shake for dinner.  There are
    24        a million different ways to adjust your food intake.  For
              a snack you can have carrots and celery, if you want.  You
    25        do not have to eat hamburgers for breakfast, lunch and
              dinner.

         Q.   So it is OK to eat McDonald's food as long as for the rest 
    27        of the day you are making sure that the rest of your meals
              are healthy?
    28        A.  Well, in answering that question I do not want to
              suggest that McDonald's meals are not healthy.  What I am
    29        saying is there are standards which the government has set
              out which we republished in our advertising, saying that
    30        an approximate amount of sodium per day, for an average
              individual, would be about 3,000 milligrams and that, in
