will help in the light of the answer which you get, go to
it.

MR. MORRIS: The last review of Mark Davis, and there is none
since that that have been found ---
A. On Mark Davis or -----

Q. -- alleged to have happened after that.
A. This is my last review I did on Mark Davis you are
talking about?

Q. No, on Ray Coton by Mark Davis. It includes phrases such
as "the store's attention to quality has improved". This
is 1st November 1990. Under "Service": "Speed of service
has improved." It says: "Excellent food and labour costs
have been replaced by average figures." Presumably,
average figures means average for the Company as a whole?
A. I would not know.

Q. Well, OK. Sales and marketing: "At last we are beginning
to see some activity on this front" -- implying some
movement in that area. It does say: "Crew retention
turnover is one of the worst in the region" -- one of the
worst in the region, not the worst in the region. The
conclusion includes the statement by Mark Davis, amongst
other things: "Professional appearance and conduct at all
times, your personal attributes of reliability and maturity
are second to none" -- and I emphasise second to
none -- "and also you have an excellent attitude and wish
to do well."

Now, although there may have been criticisms in that -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What are you going to put to the witness? It
is all very well from reading from performance reviews.

MR. MORRIS: To save time in taking -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just ask the witness a question. That is why
he is in the witness box.

MR. MORRIS: It indicates that the store ---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Ask him a question, please, Mr. Morris.

MR. MORRIS: -- did not get any Cs at all in its last full field;
yes? Does that sound like -- just from what I have read
out, does that sounds like a store that you felt was going
into crisis -----

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, that is a wholly improper question in the
light of what is in the whole of the PR, and if Mr. Morris
is to ask this witness about the PR made by a subordinate,
Mark Davis, on his further subordinate, Mr. Ray Coton, the
witness must be given six or seven minutes to read the
whole of the PR, and then Mr. Morris can put the question.
It is grossly improper.

MR. MORRIS: Is a B mark -- what is a failure mark in a store in
a full field audit?
