Day 181 - 01 Nov 95 - Page 05
A. And was not provided with a meal on duty.

Q. Yes. Well, I am assuming that he was.
A. Fine, OK. I just wanted to point that out.

Q. The only other matter is this: you were going to try to
recall overnight whether you were involved in the
consultation.
A. Yes, I was, according to the recollection of my
colleague who was also a member of the council at that
time. But I have not been able to find my minutes of the
meeting to confirm -- the meetings -- to confirm my
attendance, but I was certainly a member at that time,
according to my colleague's recollection.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, very well. Thank you.

Examination by the Defendants, continued

MS. STEEL: Actually, the first question you asked was one of
the ones I was going to ask. I think you put it a bit more
clearly.

The other question I wanted to ask, Mr. Pearson, we have
seen that there is a change between 1986 and 1987 in the
form of the Wages Council order. Do you know whether or
not 1985 would have been similar to the 1986 in terms of
the system, or was it completely different?
A. No. The systems were identical. The only changes,
I think, in those two years were the pay figures, the
hourly rates.

Q. Right. In terms of -- if I remember where the part is,
about adding one-eighth and one-half, would those parts
have been the same?
A. Well, to be honest, the best way to answer this is to
look at the actual order for 1985. So, if you rely on my
recollection, my recollection is that the fundamentals, the
calculation ratios, time and a quarter, time and an eighth,
time and a half, the spread over principle and so forth,
the fundamentals did not change, in my recollection; only
the hourly rates that were attached to those figures.

Q. OK. Thank you.

MR. MORRIS: Just on this vexed subject, can you get Defence
document number 117 out? I do not know actually what
colour that is.

MS. STEEL: It is kingfisher blue.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is the higher row of blues.

MS. STEEL: I think it is bundle IV.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is divider 17. It is, in fact, 117, but
the divider has a "17" on it.
A. Divider 17.

MR. MORRIS: I hope I have the right document.
