Day 248 - 13 May 96 - Page 39

       as lies, can you?
       A. I did not. I used the leaflet and what it contains as
a catalyst for looking for more information. That was
totally separate and distinct from the customer leaflets we
speak about. The customers leaflets we spoke about that
went into our restaurants, some into the did-you-know
boards, were a direct response to that which you yourselves
or your McLibel support campaign people had put out prior
to me doing anything. You are confusing the two issues
       completely.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Pick a moment to break off.

MR. MORRIS: We have canvassed this.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Break off there unless there is something
       you want to ask.

  MR. MORRIS: No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will rise. At some stage I would like a
photocopy of page 7 of this "Strategies for Global
Dominance", and of The Financial Times article, 28th
October. It may be somewhere else.

MR. RAMPTON: One other thing, and may I raise it now because if
the Defendants are going to go the whole afternoon with
Mr. Preston Mr. Howes can go back to the office and do some
       useful work.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is the position?

MS. STEEL: We will not go the whole afternoon.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to deal with Mr Howes this
afternoon or would you like to get away as soon as you have
       finished with Mr. Preston?

MS. STEEL: Obviously, we have a lot of preparation to do. So,
       for Mr. Nicholson.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not suppose it makes a great deal of
difference to Mr. Howes whether he comes back this
       afternoon or another afternoon.

MR. RAMPTON: I am sure it does not.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will content ourselves with Mr. Preston
       today.

                       (Luncheon adjournment)

MR. MORRIS: I wanted to hand these in as soon as possible.
They are just a further couple of points from Mr. Brett,
who is due in on Wednesday ---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, thank you.

MR. MORRIS: -- from a conversation I had with him last night.
