Q. No -- well, Labour Board hearings fair enough, but do you
remember any Americans coming over either to the store or
the -- we irritate both Americans and Canadians by failing
to distinguish between the accent, but you can tell an
American, can you, or can you not?
A. Not really. I mean, they will have one or two little
phrases like instead of "tomato" they will say, I do not
know, "tomato"; just it is not very much, you know.

Q. That is a misunderstanding on my part.
A. Unless they are from, unless they are from Texas, or
something, where they have an accent.

Q. But someone from one of the northern states of America you
would not necessarily realise that he was American rather
than Canadian?
A. I would not, no.

Q. Very well. Start again, Mr. Morris.

MR. MORRIS: OK. We have already heard from Stan Stein, who is
a senior vice president of the McDonald's corporation, in
the witness box that he came to Toronto during the Labour
Board hearings; do you know if anybody from McDonald's
corporation came to the store during this period of the
unionisation drive and the Labour Board hearings, or do you
remember anybody?
A. There was one girl, I cannot -- but, I do not remember
her name, and she came down, but it was just basically to
see how the store was running. I do not remember her
name. I never spoke to her. I just .....

Q. Is this the ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to concentrate on Mr. Stein
alone, because it is obvious some outsiders were there
because the McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited, as
well as Ballantyne Foods Limited, were parties to the
Labour Board proceedings and they granted Mr. Ballantyne
and his company the franchise. So they were involved. So
we might expect that there were Canadians from outside
Orangeville there, or visiting the restaurant on behalf of
the McDonald's Canadian Company. What Mr. Morris is
feeling for is someone from the big corporation in
Oakbrook, Chicago, who might have visited?
A. So not from Toronto Head Office?

Q. No ---

MR. MORRIS: Yes, that is right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- forget for the moment the Toronto office
because that would probably be the Canadian Company.
Mr. Morris is wondering about someone from America who----
A. Not that I know of. I do not know of anybody -- like
I did not .....

MR. MORRIS: You cannot remember meeting anybody?
A. No, I do not remember meeting anyone.
