Day 192 - 27 Nov 95 - Page 15
remember exactly.

MR. MORRIS: How much was that above the minimum wage?
A. $4.60 was five cents above the minimum wage.

Q. When you left, what were you earning, approximately?
A. I believe it was $6.30.

Q. Do you know what the minimum wage was?
A. I think it was $6.25.

Q. So you were five cents above the minimum wage when you
left?
A. I believe so.

Q. How many hours a week did you work at McDonald's,
generally?
A. During which period -- because I got a job -----

Q. When you started, and before the union drive?
A. Probably about 20 to 30 hours a week, but less when
I was in school and more in the summertime.

Q. Right. So it varied?
A. Yes.

Q. During the union drive period until the vote, what kind of
hours were you working then?
A. Probably about an average of six hours a week, because
I was just working on weekends then.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I am not meaning to interrupt, but I am
having the most terrible difficulty -- I do not think it is
my fault -- hearing the witness. She is very indistinct.
It is not her fault, of course.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. (To the witness): No one is criticising
you, but I am having difficulty hearing you. That may be
partly my hearing. But if Mr. Rampton is too, it does mean
you have to do your best to speak up loud and clear. Do
not hurry; there is no need to hurry. Speak up loud and
clear.

One of the things I was not clear of from the answers you
gave earlier was just what the minimum wage was when you
started at $4.55 or $4.60?
A. I believe the minimum wages was $4.55 then.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we go through the hours again,
Mr. Morris, to make sure I have that right?

MR. MORRIS: Yes. You said that you worked something between
20 and 30 hours up until the time of the union organising
drive?
A. Yes.

Q. But it was seasonal: more in the summer ---
A. Yes.

Q. -- in the holidays, and less at other times?
