Day 129 - 25 May 95 - Page 15
MS. STEEL: Just on the subject of hygiene, I presume you also
know about McDonald's being fined by Kingston Magistrates
Court in April 1991 for serving an under-cooked McChicken
sandwich?
A. I do, yes, but I do not know the details of that one.

Q. So you were not involved in the investigation into the
cause of that?
A. No, again it is probably one of the times when I was
not involved in food safety, and also for stores in London,
Quality Assurance historically have got involved in the
investigation and probably would have done with that one.
Certainly -- in 1991, did you say?

Q. Yes.
A. It would just be me and there was no way that I would
have got involved in that investigation.

Q. The case was when you were on maternity leave, I think, but
I am not sure. In August 1990, McDonald's pleaded guilty
to selling a raw chicken sandwich at McDonald's in Sutton?
A. Again, it would be the same as that; I would actually
just be back, that is when I just started in hygiene and
safety, but, no, I did not get involved in that one.

Q. Do you have other responsibilities, apart from hygiene and
the health and safety of employees?
A. No.

Q. Are you not responsible for customer safety or anything
like that?
A. Well, in terms of developing a safety policy, yes.
Customers as well as employees and visitors as well, if it
is not a customer.

Q. I just wanted to ask something -- you were asked about the
electric shocks in Harbourne?
A. Yes.

Q. You said that you were away on maternity leave at the time?
A. I was.

Q. And that Chris Purslow dealt with it in your absence?
A. He worked with Jeanette Row, that is the Personnel
Manager in Sutton Coldfield. So, Chris did all of the
liaising with the Environmental Health Officer.

Q. Right. He carried out investigations or what?
A. I am not sure of the exact detail of his involvement.
I suspect that the investigation would have been carried
out by Operations and Chris advised of the results of that.

Q. Then he got involved with the preparation of the memo?
A. I do not know if he was involved in the preparation of
the memo or whether Keith wrote that purely by himself, but
Chris certainly met with the Environmental Health Officer.

Q. Sorry, you said he was involved in the decision to send the
memos, is that right -- it is a bit broken up.
A. OK. I really do not know if he was involved in the
