Day 274 - 04 Jul 96 - Page 19
Q. I think it can be handed back. Thank you very much. Do
you remember, if you look at the bottom two paragraphs on
page 2 of those particular notes, headed International Mail
Out, to you actually remember any of the discussion there?
A. I have a vague recollection, I have a vague
recollection of the discussion of going to Moscow. I mean,
it says here the cost of the trip would be a problem unless
the group obtained some sponsorship. I cannot think where
we would have obtained sponsorship from, but certainly the
costs of the trip would have been a problem. I mean, the
idea of going there might have been thrown into the forum
but I to not remember it being discussed again.

Q. Do you remember anything else about anything else mentioned
in those two paragraphs? I mean, from that meeting. If
you do not remember just say you do not remember.
A. I mean, it is possible that you commented that Moscow
sheets might be more interested in environmental issues. I
do not remember the international -- well, I mean, I wasn't
involved with the mail out that year but I would be
surprised if the fact sheet was included. I don't think we
had any copies at that stage, may be just a couple of
library copies if it is 1909. So...

Q. Okay. We will move on from that.

MS. STEEL: Just one other thing about that meeting, do you
remember, you were here for Mr. Russell's evidence, do you
remember Jack Russell?
A. Yes, I do remember him quite well.

Q. Do you remember him at that meeting?
A. Yes.

Q. What do you remember about him at that meeting?
A. Well, the reason why I remember him is because he
actually looked quite different from the normal type of
people that would come along to meetings. He was -- well,
you have seen him. He in his, perhaps, he is about 60. He
has white hair, tanned. He actually said that he was a
reporter from Australia, that he had come over to report on
the cricket and as the cricket had not yet started he was
using his time to good purpose coming along to a Greenpeace
meeting. I actually thought that he might think that we
were Greenpeace International as opposed to London
Greenpeace, but he had a notebook on him and he took notes
throughout the course of the meeting.

Q. If we move on to page 116D. Have you got page 116D? It
should be Mr. Bishop's notes for 17th May?
A. Yes.

Q. You were at this meeting, apparently. This is Mr. Bishop's
first meeting, and actually on page 116B he said, "I
explained to Jane, which was the name of the door opener,
that I had learned about the group from an old leaflet that
had been shown to me in a pub in Canterbury, Kent, quite
some time ago". Then the conversation goes on. Do you
remember Mr. Bishop attending this meeting or--
A. Yes, I remember the conversation.
