Day 169 - 04 Oct 95 - Page 46

specific Managers in relation to their attitude to the
crew, how they dealt with the crew, their job knowledge
etc, etc., and that would relate to all Managers --
       salaried and Floor Managers.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Morris -- I meant to ask before
Mrs. French was called -- my copy of Mr. Cranna's statement
has some parts which look as if there was something there
once upon a time but no longer is. I am not the least
concerned if that is the position. What I am concerned is
if there is something there which I have should be able to
       read but cannot.

MR. MORRIS: No. I can say what happened, if you like.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You need not because I am not supposing there
is anything sinister. All I am concerned is if I just get
a poor copy, so let me just hand you down a page.

MR. MORRIS: It will be the same as mine.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, we have all got it.

MR. MORRIS: They are all the same because I sent in a copy of
the statements and he blanked out bits himself.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is fair enough.

MR. MORRIS: Then signed one that he was happy with. Yes, it is
       identical.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is all right. As long as I am not
missing anything because of the poor copy.

MR. MORRIS: I did not blank out any bits myself.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not worry.

MR. MORRIS: I think we might have blanked out the address.
That was when it was agreed that we would not have to give
the addresses of our witnesses. Right. (To the witness):
You said about the policy, McDonald's had a policy of
people not talking to the press; is that correct?
       A. At one point in time that was not correct. In the
original days then crew would talk to the press, but
because of the comments that they made being written out of
context, yes, then McDonald's decided that it was better
that all press enquiries were dealt with from Head Office.

  Q. There is a specific thing in the crew handbook, is there
not, about talking to press? It is a policy not to do so?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you know when that was introduced?
       A. It has been a few years now. I do not remember what
       year it was introduced.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Was it before you went you became a
       franchisee or not?
       A. Yes, it was.
