Day 072 - 12 Jan 95 - Page 54

  Q. Do they put on their own gloves? Why have they never asked
you for gloves, or are you sure they have never asked you
       for gloves?
       A. Before I said that in my experience I have never had
anyone come to me and ask for us to provide them with
       gloves.

  Q. This trash walk, if you could have a quick look at the
map. Can you just say absolutely accurately what a person
does physically when they walk out of the door, just the
       actual direction they go?
       A. As I said before, there is no fixed route; they just
know which streets they have to cover. From experience,
they normally go down Royal Avenue first.

  Q. Is that both sides of Royal Avenue?
       A. Yes, and the square in the centre of Royal Avenue.

  Q. They do the square as well, OK. Not in the order, but they
have to do St. Leonard's Terrace, yes, up to Smith Street?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Up Smith Street both sides, yes?
       A. Both sides.

  Q. Then there is a small road, is there not, Woodfall Street?
       A. Yes, it is a very small road but they do check that.

  Q. Wellington Square?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do they have to do it inside Wellington Square as well?
       A. They check round the perimeter. It is a large private
garden, so as much as they can they would try to pick up
any environment/index.html">litter that was inside that garden.

  Q. They have to do it all the way along the Kings Road both
sides between the Royal Avenue entrance and Smith Street,
       is that correct?
       A. That is right, yes.

  Q. That is it, that is the trash walk, that is the regular
       trash walk?
       A. That is the regular one, yes.

  Q. Could you just say what the distance, say, Smith Street,
how long is that, how many hundred yards is that?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us not make it up, necessarily take it
item by item. If you were making a good job of that trash
walk, how far do you think you would walk altogether,
including covering, for instance, the whole of the Royal
       Avenue square?
       A. It would be a 10 to 15-minute walk while picking up
       rubbish, so -----

  Q. Walking slowly with stops 10 to 15 minutes, is that what
       you are saying?
       A. Yes, they would pick up as they go along, but they
might have to stand still. But distance-wise ----
