Day 247 - 10 May 96 - Page 66
of food poisoning that is doing pretty well because it is a
very small fraction of the number of meals. Do you
remember that argument being put? ^^ MARGARET HERE?
A. I do not remember the exact words, but I remember
talking about trying to keep any and everything numerically
in some kind of perspective, yes.

Q. Incidentally, because you have not been here the whole
time, there have been other outbreaks of food poisoning
admitted and other incidents of selling food with food
poisoning organisms in it. In any event, even if it was
only one incident, would that mean it did not matter?
A. I think my actions and the actions of the company said
it mattered.

Q. In this case, I think, 13 of the victims were hospitalised,
were they not?
A. I do not remember the number.

Q. You do not remember. But it was serious, was it not?
A. Of course it was serious.

Q. Particularly for the people that were poisoned?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is not an issue in this case that it was
serious.

MS. STEEL: Can you imagine anything worse that could happen to
McDonald's customers than getting food poisoning from
eating there?
A. No, I cannot.

Q. Right. But you are complaining when the pamphlet says that
the food was poisoning?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not rise to that please, Mr. Rampton. It
is part of the Plaintiffs' case that because of the worst
possible thing that could happen they do their very best to
avoid it.

MS. STEEL: But it has happened.

MR. RAMPTON: That is not our complaint about the leaflet.

MS. STEEL: Pardon? I do not know what the situation is about
what you want me to do.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Have you, effectively, got to the end of your
loose ends?

MS. STEEL: I think more or less. I mean, part of the problem
is that I have got 15 or 16 pages of notes and because of
what you said during the course of the day I am trying to
cut out questions. So, I think that, effectively, I am
more or less at the end of the loose ends.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How long do you think you will take with your
publication questions, including that which you have been
prompted to ask by reading the statement you were given
yesterday of Mr. Nicholson?
