Day 151 - 10 Jul 95 - Page 56

MISS STEEL: It is tab 11, page 460.
       A. Sorry, yes, point 36.

  Q. Yes. "What is hustle? Hustle is speed and organisation
equals greater efficiency. When do you use hustle? All
the time." You would accept that, would you? I think you
gave a slightly different definition, but -----;?
       A. I think I said coordination, efficient coordination.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Were you seeking to differ from that? Had
you got your own definition from somewhere else, or were
you just trying to describe it in your own words?
       A. Those were in my own words.

  Q. So you do not join any issue with what is on that page?
       A. No, I do not. Sorry, no.

MS. STEEL: Have you seen any other definition written down
       anywhere?
       A. Not that I recall.

  Q. I cannot remember where it was, but I thought you said
something about that the theory on hustle has remained the
same, but I may be wrong. Did you say that?
       A. Perhaps my interpretations probably remain consistent,
but I cannot recollect my exact words.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is not necessary. What you are being
asked is whether you think that it has stayed the same, the
       definition?
       A. Yes, as far as I can remember. But, certainly, in
       terms of -- yes.

MISS STEEL: Do you remember any instruction coming round to
managers, supervisors, whatever, about the definition of
hustle and the meaning of hustle?
       A. Recently, or when I was a supervisor?

  Q. Since you have been at McDonald's?
       A. I cannot recall a document specifically talking about
       hustle.

  Q. You cannot?
       A. Not to my recollection.

  Q. You do not remember a memo or anything like that coming
from Head Office about the way hustle was to be
implemented, the practice of hustle, rather than the
       theoretical -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Why do not you narrow it down just a
little -- because in February 1990 you were promoted to
       Operations Manager?
       A. Right.

  Q. If any memo had come round, varying in any way the
definition of hustle or suggesting how it was to be
interpreted from now on, would you have expected to see
that, in the post you held from February 1990 onwards?
