Day 034 - 11 Oct 94 - Page 35
A. I regret to say I do not.

Q. I think I have the original which you gave me. Is that OK
to give the original to the witness?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: I did copy -----

MR. RAMPTON: Can I see it, please? I have not seen it.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, it is marked.

MR. RAMPTON: I have only a number of pages selected by
Mr. Morris which, as your Lordship appreciates, always
makes me suspicious.

MR. MORRIS: Why is it suspicious?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not bother about that. (To the witness):
Have you a copy now?

THE WITNESS: No, I do not, my Lord.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I do not -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest is let Dr. Barnard have
that. We are within 10 minutes or quarter of an hour of
the break and we will work off our copies. (Handed) Let
the witness have the original and let Mr. Rampton have the
original over the mid-day adjournment.

THE WITNESS: I will be quite brief with this one, although I
promised that before!

MR. MORRIS: The pages everyone has is the front cover and then
10 to 13 and then 19 and 20.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Were there any other pages you were going to refer
to?
A. I would like to mention just page 11 and page 19.

Q. OK.
A. Starting with page 11, at the bottom of that page in
the left-hand column where -- by the way, simply to
identify the document, it is entitled: Measures of
Progress against Cancer. It is a publication of the
National Institutes of Health, which is a group of
institutes conducting research. The National Institutes
of Health is the official research body of the United
States government. One of those institutes is the
National Cancer Institute which I mentioned yesterday and
publishes this booklet.

This booklet constitutes an official government document
which is freely handed out as demonstrating what is
believed and known about cancer research.
