Day 069 - 19 Dec 94 - Page 69

  Q. Developing?
       A. People from Tyson went to start a meat plant in
Australia, a chicken plant, and it was a totally different
supplier that it would have been a competitor for them.
They have no current interest in Australia. The supplier
is an Australian and we send somebody from the US because
that plant is going to supply products from us. That shows
concern. That is how we operate.

  Q. Maybe the last thing today, can you get a document, it is
pink Volume V. I hope it is the right one, tab 37.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: "McDonald's and the Environment".

  MR. MORRIS: Yes.
       A. Yes.

  Q. Have a quick look at that. Is that your policy, general
Environmental Policy document, or is that an Environmental
Policy document you see at the bottom of the second page?
       It has "1991 McDonald's Corporation"?
       A. Before I even look at that, we have published a lot of
information regarding our policies about the rainforests.
This is just one of many publications which describe the
use of our concerns regarding the environment.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think perhaps you should ask him whether he
is familiar with this document, whether he has seen it
       before.

MR. MORRIS: Have you seen this one before?
       A. I have seen a lot of materials that look similar to
       this. I do not know.

  Q. If you turn on to the second page, the second to last line,
it says: "We have invited environmental groups to review
our beef purchasing practices and inspect our records.
       Both Conservation International ..."
       A. Sorry, I lost you?

  Q. The second page.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The bottom two lines.
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: "We have invited environmental groups to review our
beef purchasing practices and inspect our records. Both
Conservation International and the Smithson Institution
have inspected our beef purchasing records." Do you know
what records those groups saw at all?
       A. No, I do not know what specific records they saw. It
was probably before I got into the company. I joined the
company in that year. I do not know.

  Q. Have you heard anything about it?
       A. No. I know there a lot of people that go through our
Corporation every single day, and we share a lot of
information with them regarding our practices, our
       management practices, including this part.
