Day 064 - 08 Dec 94 - Page 55

Q. It is the same except it has not got January '94 on the
front. (Handed).
A. OK.

Q. The fat content has actually gone up in the french fries.
Do you know why that was?
A. Let me have a look for a moment. I do not specifically
know why that was. No, I do know that. When we take
samples for analysis they are always taken within specific
tolerances, and you cannot be exactly right on all of these
numbers every time.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: On some quick mental arithmetic it seems to
have gone up in proportion to the number of kilo calories.
A. Yes, I could not quite see on my copy, but I think that
is correct.

MS. STEEL: I think that is also right for the hash browns that
are just underneath that?
A. Yes, that is correct.

Q. Also for the Quarter Pounder with cheese?
A. Yes.

Q. You do not why that is?
A. Not specifically, no, but you do get variances. Each
time we get products taken from the restaurant and analysed
there will be a variance, an acceptable tolerance.

MS. STEEL: I think I have finished on the leaflet now.

(Short Adjournment).

MS. STEEL: The document "Good Food Nutrition and McDonald's"?
A. The 1989 document?

Q. No, the 1985 one.
A. 85, OK.

Q. I think it was 85. There are three different versions of
it. Was that reprinted after 1985, do you know?
A. I do not, no.

Q. Do you know of any documents which the company produces
currently which explicitly state that high-fat low-fibre
diets are considered to be linked to various diseases such
as heart disease and cancer?
A. No.

Q. So if there were any documents you would be aware of them,
would you?
A. If they are current documents.

Q. Yes, so there are not any documents?
A. Not that I am aware of, no.

Q. OK. Do the leaflets that we have looked at, the one we
were just looking at and also the ingredients listing, do
they actually explain anywhere what "high in fat" means or
