Day 015 - 21 Jul 94 - Page 61
1
MS. STEEL: If you turn to page one of that document?
2 A. Yes.
3 Q. If you look at the fifth paragraph down?
A. Beginning the "Main Implications", sorry?
4
Q. No, the one above that.
5 A. 87 per cent.
6 Q. You see 87 per cent of the people surveyed said that they
were eating fastfood at least once a week?
7 A. Yes.
8 Q. And 31 per cent of the fastfood eaters said they ate
fastfood every day?
9 A. So what do I mean by "fastfood"?
10 Q. This is a survey of people eating in places. I think it
has a list of places, places like McDonald's.
11 A. I have not seen this document before.
12 Q. Places like McDonald's, Burger King, Wimpey, Kentucky
Fried Chicken.
13
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Paragraph 2, you see, says: "The survey took
14 the form of a structured interview being carried out in
Peckham outside four fastfood outlets interviewing
15 consumers as they left the stores." I have not looked at
the document before. Can you refer us to where it says
16 what the four outlets were? If you look on page 5 it
looks as if they are Wimpey, McDonald's, Burger King and
17 Kentucky.
18 MR. MORRIS: I do not know if that is it the actual ones that
people were interviewed.
19
MR. RAMPTON: Your Lordship will find a description of what is
20 meant by "fastfood" in the introduction on page 2. It is
important obviously not to rip things out of context and
21 to see what this survey is actually about one needs to
look at the introduction.
22
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you read the first two paragraphs under
23 introduction on page 2, please, Professor Wheelock?
A. Yes.
24
Q. Can we find which the four outlets were, Ms. Steel?
25
MR. MORRIS: It does look as if they were Kentucky, Wimpey and
26 Fish and Chips.
27 MS. STEEL: Yes. If you look at page 13 it has the location
of interview. It has those four. Page 13 is probably the
28 important figures anyway. It has the frequency of using
fastfood outlets, people coming out of McDonald's said
29 they use fastfood outlets; 32 per cent said they were
using it once a day; 49 per cent said they were using it
30 one to five times a week?
A. Sorry, where are we please?
