Day 166 - 28 Sep 95 - Page 29

MS. STEEL: How many pages in is that?
       A. Go to January, there is a fourth one, fourth one back,
left-hand side, it runs under the column of current year.

  Q. Right. So, effectively, you got it bang on target?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You were a bit above the next month, a bit
       below the next?
       A. I am a bit below the next month. 15.79 was the next
       month.

  Q. A bit below the next, a little more below the next,, about
        .9 nine below the next.

MS. STEEL: So the Company would have been pleased with your
       results?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Pleased with your results and pleased with
       their budget forecasts?
       A. It shows obviously a good sales forecast and a good
labour forecast. It is a guideline. It is not like, you
know, I was not hung, drawn and quartered if I did not
achieve it. The budget is a guideline. It is based on
historics. It is based on various things which I said
       earlier.

MS. STEEL: What was the most you ever went over the budget?
       A. I do not recall.

  Q. You do not remember?
       A. In this period of time?

  Q. Did you ever go over the budget?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You did.
       A. In this period of time that relates to this statement?

  MR. MORRIS: Yes.
       A. I have not got 1986's budget so I could not honestly
       answer that question.

MS. STEEL: So you do not know?
       A. No.

  Q. So in the evidence that we have got in front of us, you
       never went over the budget?
       A. No -- for those four months that you can see there, no.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, we have only got four months where we can
       make a comparison.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am not terribly impressed by that point at
the moment. (To the witness): You remember you went over
the budget on occasions and, rightly or wrongly, your
evidence is you were not hung drawn and quartered if you
       did?
       A. That is right.
