Day 151 - 10 Jul 95 - Page 71

  Q. I put to you another reason if what you say is true about
lack of complaints over, say, pay and hours worked is that
crew members know it is an absolute waste of time
complaining about anything if nothing is going to be done?
       A. That is absolutely wrong. I mean, just in terms of my
own personal dealings with complaints, procedural or
disciplinary procedures, I do not fall one way or the
other. I will listen to what they have to say and, if it
is a good idea, or they have absolute grounds for it, then
why would I not? I want my credibility within the region,
I want the region's credibility, McDonald's image to go
forward. If we have made a mistake we may as well say
sorry and try and rectify it. But to say that people
complain about the pay is inherently wrong. People enjoy
it, the opportunity to get three, or whatever, pay rises
       per year.

MR. MORRIS: I have not got any further questions today on
       that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will resume at 10.30.

MR. ATKINSON: There is just one point. The Defendants said
they were going to make submissions about the transcripts.
I am not pressing too hard - it is just that we would like
to have some general indication of what that is about; not
necessarily very detailed, but just some general idea of
       what the subject is about.

MR. MORRIS: It has already been canvassed ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Would you like to go and sit down,
       Mr. Stanton. (The witness withdrew).

MR. MORRIS: It was already canvassed before initially,
       obviously, at some length ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There has been almost less communication in
this case than any case I have ever been involved in. But
I am going to rise now and I do not see why you should not
just say to Mr. Atkinson what the particular point is that
you have in mind. We will resume at 10.30 in the morning.

  MR. MORRIS: Yes.
