Day 152 - 11 Jul 95 - Page 60
names, or ----

Q. You take no names?
A. No names at all. You would have a check list which you
would run through, specific questions relating to all areas
of the restaurant.

Q. Can you do the check list out of your head?
A. Most of it, probably. The first question is: "If
there was one thing you could change about McDonald's what
would it be?" Then: "Are there any maintenance and repair
problems within the restaurant?" Then you would run
through the various areas of the restaurant ranging from
walls, buildings, toilets, grill area equipment, grills,
fry stations, tills, the lobby area, right through the
restaurant on maintenance and repair, the reason for that
being that if you just ask the question, "Are there any
maintenance repair problems in the restaurant?", generally
they would say "no". If you specified particular pieces of
equipment, then they would say: "Oh, yes, there is a screw
missing off the side of the fry station" or "there is a bit
of a leaky tap in the toilets", or something like that.

The next section, I believe, dealt with hours and pay,
scheduling came up, whether there was a right mix of hours,
you know, are they happy with the hours they are given?
Are they happy with their pay? Is the mix of shifts OK in
the restaurant? Are they being given too many closes? Are
they getting too many opens? That sort of thing. Training
- what is the orientation like? If you have newer people
attending the rap session you ask them, who has attended
the most recent orientation? You would ask them how it was
conducted and, you know, could it be improved? Did they
see the video? Were they given training on health and
safety? That sort of thing. Then it would move on
to -----

Q. I think, perhaps, for present purposes, that will do.
I want to just ask a couple of questions about it: Were
they encouraged or invited to express their views about the
Managers, individual Managers, in the store?
A. Yes.

Q. Pardon?
A. Individual -- before you went to conduct the rap
session, you would just write down the list of the
Managers, including Floor Managers in the restaurant, and
you would ask individually on each Manager what the crew
thought of them and how could they improve. So if somebody
was, sort of, forgetful, or that sort of thing, that would
be something they would say, you know, "could be less
forgetful".

Q. Yes, I see. In your 50 you say that you did while you were
an Area Supervisor, or whatever, on hours and pay, how much
was what I would call angry criticism or complaint about
the hours or the pay?
A. Generally, most people would generally be happy with
the hours and the pay. Occasionally, people would bring up
an individual problem that they personally had. For
