Day 241 - 26 Apr 96 - Page 60

       Mr. Atkinson.

MR. ATKINSON: I was going to say, does your Lordship just want
       to take it as read?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will take it as read, yes. What was the
other matter, Mr. Morris, you wanted to raise?

MR. MORRIS: There was the FSIS Directive regarding the US
labelling of imported beef, in particular when the
packaging has been taken off it. If I can find it -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is -----

MR. MORRIS: I have got it down as a Civil Evidence Act notice.
We do not have to actually read it all out.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not think you have to read it at all.
It has been put to witnesses.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. I just wanted to make a point that it has
       been -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have got it in somewhere. I would leave it
       there if I were you.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, OK then. Can I say, that is the directive of
number dated 7.20.94. It was sent by the USDA Food Safety
and Inspection Service. I think that is our complete
       environment case except for Jean Carriere for next Monday;
Peter Heller who we are still considering whether to call
him or not and Anne Link, who is down for next week as
well, and Sue Bramford. She is booked in for a later
date. I cannot remember which date she is booked in for.
In fact, also we are considering whether we need to call
Jim Ratter in the light of Mr. Rampton's kind offer to
allow us to give a Civil Evidence Act notice on his
       statement.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Make up your mind about that as soon as you
       can.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. He is away, of course, at the moment.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: All right. Shall we break off there until
       Monday morning?

  MR. MORRIS: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is there anything else?

  MR. ATKINSON: No, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will resume at 10.30 on Monday with
       Dr. Carriere.

(The Court adjourned until 10.30 on
                      Monday, 29th April 1996)
