Day 188 - 15 Nov 95 - Page 38

       A. I think, you know, one of the things that was ironic,
I thought, was that what you had in this transaction
analysis is that people are being taught that if you treat
people as adults you will get an adult response, and if you
treat people as children, you will get a childish response.
So it is that kind of relationship that is being
explained. But it seemed to me that as, for example, in
the incident of Alistair asking a quite trivial question,
that he was treated as a child. So, in other words, what
they were saying should be the management practice was not
being carried out in the way the course was conducted in
some of those incidents. So they were treated as children.

MR. MORRIS: There may be one or two further questions. Is it
       possible to break there?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will resume at two o'clock.

                        (Luncheon Adjournment)

MR. MORRIS: There was just something I was going to mention,
not as a question but just to the judge.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes?

MR. MORRIS: When I said that the film was irrelevant, I did not
mean irrelevant in itself; I meant in terms of this
       witness.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I understand that.

MR. MORRIS: (To the witness): Almaz Anteneh was questioned
about undercooked burgers, and the effect of her reply was
it that it happened from time to time. Does that surprise
you at all, having described the nature of the operation?
       A. No, it would not surprise me. In the peak hours, the
pressure was so intense to keep the thing going, it would
not surprise me if occasionally undercooked burgers did
       emerge from that system.

  Q. Would it surprise you if -- sorry, the reference for that,
if anyone wants to know, is 24th July 1995, page 49,
       line 55 onwards.

MR. RAMPTON: Actually, it starts at line 15, I think.

MR. MORRIS: Fair enough. I saw a printout of the key parts of
       it.

(To the witness): Just one or two more questions. Would
it surprise you if Almaz Anteneh was questioned about
       lettuce being out of date?
       A. What about being out of date?

  Q. Lettuce being found to be out of date; and she said it had
a shelf life of seven days. Would it surprise you if --
I am not talking about the use of out of date lettuce,
which you have already talked about, but would it surprise
you if lettuce, from time to time, was kept past its shelf
       life?
