Day 195 - 04 Dec 95 - Page 66
about the hours that you worked?
A. I regard anything in this statement as the truth.

Q. Regularly worked until 3 or 4 a.m. often, even 6 or 7
regularly, Mr. Alimi?
A. Yes, it might be a matter of interpretation for
McDonald's. It might be an accepted practice to keep
people on after the end of their shift, but I would not
regard it as fair, so I would, as I did when I had the
opportunity, I did protest against it, and I tried to help
those who were still at McDonald's working to get their
rights.

MR. RAMPTON: Thank you.

Re-Examined by the Defendants.

MR. MORRIS: Just to clarify something. You did raise it
originally. When you used the word "Management" in your
statement you said something to Mr. Rampton about there was
a collective, you had a collective impression about the
management?
A. Yes, that is right.

Q. When you use the word "Management" in your statement is
that what you are referring to?
A. That is right. When you start working at McDonald's
they tell you that whoever is above you is your Manager.
Therefore, you take whatever they say as read. So you do
not question it. You do not go to the person above him
or her and say that, "You know this person has told me to
do that, is it correct or not?" Basically, it is a
hierarchial management system and they tell you that your
on-line Manager is such and such a person or group of
Managers.

Q. But you said that you spoke sometimes to the Shift Running
Managers, to Assistant Managers, to Floor Managers?
A. Yes, that is right. Can I just clarify something
about it? Very frequently I was on a shift where the Floor
Managers were actually running the shift in the absence of
any other Manager.

Q. They would be in charge?
A. They would be in charge of the shift and no other
Manager was actually in the store. So who else would you
regard as your Manager under those circumstances? If you
had any complaint you would obviously go to these Managers
rather than call up somebody at home, you know, who is
higher up.

Q. Who told you that Paul Jackson was sacked for gross
misconduct?
A. I think it was Simon Gibney, but I could not be sure.

Q. Mr. Rampton asked you a question about Steve Harney.
I cannot find it. Somewhere in your statement you said
something about him being Assistant Manager. Then to
answer Mr. Rampton you said he was a Floor Manager?
A. Yes.
