Day 278 - 11 Jul 96 - Page 41

anti-McDonald's movement and the people in it. And I just
wanted to say that, as soon as the writs were served, I was
determined to fight the case and so, in particular, I
identified myself with the anti-McDonald's movement from
that time on. Obviously, prior to that I had sympathised
with the campaign and I had participated in pickets from
       time to time.

Mr. Morris, at the time, had personal difficulties,
when we had the writ continuing. You know, having to care
for his son and so on, and so he did not really get
involved until a much later stage in the support campaign,
basically not until everybody else had -- well, the other
       three defendants had pulled out.

I said something about, yesterday I think it was,
about the stalls at the 1990 fayre were more or less the
same as at the 1989 one, although I think there were some
differences. But I just wanted to say I think the
workshops had a different focus. The original ones in 1989
having been about the fast food industry in general,
although not all of those, but the ones at the later fayre
       being much more wide ranging.

Yes, when I looked through the transcript for
yesterday, I think it might have been a little bit unclear
about what I was saying about the Veggies fact sheet, or it
may be because of the question that Mr. Rampton asked, it
was left perhaps a little bit unclear. But just to say
that the Veggies fact sheet, the one that is in the bundle,
the one before at tab 208 is the one before McDonald's
contacted them and asked them to change it. There was
another one reprinted after that, shortly after that as I
       understand it.

But certainly I was well aware that there was another
one printed after that and before October 1989. Because I
think it was the way that Mr. Rampton asked the question
yesterday, he may not have been suggesting this but it was
not actually done in a new style until 1991, which is not
the case. It was an updated -- it had the amendments in it
       long before 1991.

  Q. It had them in before 1989, as I understand it?
       A. That is right, yes.

  Q. But Mr. Patrick Smith was correct, that up until and
including October 1989, and indeed for some time after
that, it was the two sheets of A4 printed on each side
folded in the middle and one put inside other?
       A. Yes, folded into A5. I just wanted to say something
about, because I was asked about the posters on the wall in
the London Greenpeace office that appear in Mr. Clare's
photographs. I just wanted to say that nobody has ever
suggested that London Greenpeace, you know, had not
produced posters about McDonald's or produced a leaflet or
had an interest in anti-McDonald's. But it was not as if
it was the only campaign or the main campaign or anything
like that. It was one of the campaigns which was run by
some people in the group in the same way that other people
