    17        possible dose of a substance?
    18        A.  I am not entirely certain I understand the question.
    19        Zero.  There is some ambiguity as to whether that
    20        constitutes a dose.

    35   Q.   Following on from his initial study, the one you mentioned
    36        which I think is 1983.  Then we see rats.  I notice -- I
    37        will read the first part of it:  "Male Fischer 344 (F344)
    38        rats were divided into groups of 5 and were fed diets (corn
    39        oil, pellets, or powder) containing 0, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 1 or
    40        2% BHA.  After 9 or 27 days, they were sacrificed", so on
    41        and so forth.

    43        Over the other side of the page:  "In a third study
    44        (Clayson ...) groups of 5 ... were fed 0, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5 or
    45        2%."  Then over the page to page 8, 260 of the bundle:  "In
    46        a similar study ... other workers reported that after 104
    47        weeks exposure to 0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 1 or 2% BHA given by
    48        powered diet to groups of 50 male F344 rats, body weight
    49        gains over the period of observation were depressed in a
    50        dose-related manner, being statistically significant in 
    51        rats receiving at least  0.5 per cent."

    55        0.5%, 0.25% and 0.125% BHA, 32%, 14% and 2%, respectively,
    56        had hyperplasia visible, but no more severe lesions were
    57        reported."  Is hyperplasia or may hyperplasia be a
    58        precursor of a carcinoma?
