Day 270 - 28 Jun 96 - Page 27
what to enclose in the letter?
A. It was left to me to decide. Nobody.... But I did not
actually follow it up, so I did not actually enclose
anything.

Q. You did not?
A. No.

Q. It was just left up to you, that was the way it was done?
A. Yes.

Q. Can you say how much you were paid for doing this work?

MR. RAMPTON: No, I object to that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not answer the question. Ask the question
and then if there is an objection I will deal with it. Do
not answer the question.

MR. MORRIS: Can you say how much you were paid to do this work,
this investigation?

MR. RAMPTON: I object to that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is the relevance of that?

MR. MORRIS: Well, it is something that, a standard question
that people are asked as background material.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is not a standard question that I have
heard ever asked as a standard question. What is the
relevance of it to any issue in this case?

MR. MORRIS: Just something that people are generally asked
about their wages or whatever.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Not in my 33 years experience in these courts
they are not. If there is some special relevance of how
much they are paid to an issue in the trial in which they
are giving evidence, then the question may be asked.

MR. MORRIS: Were you aware when you were doing this work - you
said that you knew it was for McDonald's - were you aware
of Sid Nicholson, the vice president of McDonald's, being
in charge of this operation?
A. No.

Q. Were you aware that your managing director was having
meetings with Mr. Nicholson?
A. I do not recall that name, no. But, I mean, he would
have been having meetings.

Q. We have heard evidence from Mr. Nicholson to that effect.
I was just wondered if you were aware of it?
A. No.

Q. So did nobody tell you really what was happening, if you
like, higher up?
A. No, they did not.
