Day 008 - 07 Jul 94 - Page 31
1 We have seven people involved in writing it, but it was a
joint effort. Everybody wrote chapters.
2
Q. Parts were allocated to members?
3 A. Exactly correct.
4 Q. It was decided whether what was written was accepted, how
it should be modified or whatever?
5 A. Exactly correct.
6 MR. RAMPTON: There is one sentence on the next page which must
be 137, which I do want to ask you about. It is in the
7 second paragraph. It is the fourth sentence which starts
Quick Service Restaurant Packaging. Do you see that in
8 the first complete paragraph, the second paragraph on page
137? Do you have that? It is the fourth sentence. It
9 begins with the word "Quick" at the end of the fifth line.
10 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Six or seven lines down the page?
A. OK.
11
MR. RAMPTON: It says: "Quick-service restaurant packaging
12 accounts for only a small fraction of municipal solid
waste, so any complete solution to our solid waste
13 problems will require actions across industries and by all
consumers". So far as you are concerned and so far as you
14 know, is that a true statement?
A. Yes.
15
Q. Can you then turn over to what must be page 138?
16 A. Could I just make an additional comment?
17 Q. Yes, of course, any time you think -----
A. I think the next sentence is important, in my mind.
18 It says, page 137: "Given this reality, EDF in particular
desired to create a model approach that could be used by
19 other companies".
20 Q. Do you want to read the rest of it?
A. "And as McDonald's new policy recognises, being a
21 business leader carries the responsibility of being an
environmental leader as well". By the way, that thinking
22 in that last sentence is in our environmental policy. Our
policy states that as a business leader, we are going to
23 be an environmental leader as well.
24 Q. As you told us this morning, you have the muscle in the
market to make sure that happens?
25 A. Correct.
26 Q. Thank you for that. Can you go over to the next page
138? The second paragraph: "The task force concluded
27 that there is no single method for minimising solid waste
at McDonald's. Rather, there are a number of specific
28 solutions, that collectively employed, will achieve
significant waste reductions". True or false?
29 A. True.
30 Q. Then it says: "Origin of the task force". Do not bother
about the first paragraph, that is history, but the next
