     1
MR. RAMPTON: I just was about to mention before leaving this
2 topic, Mr. Langert, that two of the newly introduced
items, that is to the carry-out bags, see them, the second
     3 item?
              A. Yes.
     4
         Q. And the jumbo roll of toilet tissue?
     5 A. Yes.

6 Q. Those newly introduced items, two out of four, do not have
any post-consumer recycled content in them at all, do
     7 they?
              A. In that year?
     8
         Q. In that year?
9 A. We did. We eventually did add post-consumer.

10 Q. Looking at this table overall, again this is rough and I
do not want you to feel under any pressure to give us even
11 a broadly accurate answer if you cannot do it, how does it
compare with previous years, do you think?
12 A. It is a progressive step forward.

    13 Q. It is a step forward?
              A. Yes. The purpose of us doing this in this report was,
14 one, to quantify what we were using, to quantify what was
in process, and to figure out what we could do in the
    15 future.

16 Q. Now I have one other question on this question of
recycling paper. I think I might have asked you this or
17 Mr. Kouchoukos, but since I cannot remember and since it
is all in our minds at the moment perhaps I can ask it
18 again. When did in the United States post-consumer
recycled fibre become available in significant quantities
19 for commercial use as packaging?
              A. Well, the word "significant" is the most important
20 part of your question. In my opinion, that did not come
until, that whole process did not start escalating until
21 89/90/91. There was an evolving process. So it was in
the very late 1980s, beginning of the 1990s, that more
    22 availability came about.

23 Q. Do you think that McDonald's had any influence or
instrumentality -- let me start again. In order to get
24 recycled paper in significant quantities you have to have
              people who will make it?
25 A. And you have to have people who buy it, correct.

26 Q. Is it your opinion whether or not McDonald's had any
influence or instrumentality in bringing about greater
    27 available of that material?
              A. I think we had terrific influence. In 1990 we
28 received an award from National Recycling Coalition for
outstanding corporate leadership for our purchase of
29 recycled materials in our business. The National Recycling
Coalition is the leading non-profit group that has
30 recycling as their issue. I think the award we received
is representative of our efforts in that area.
