Day 005 - 04 Jul 94 - Page 85
1 MR. RAMPTON: It has gone back for servicing because it has
some typographical errors.
2
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we take it up tomorrow?
3
MR. RAMPTON: Yes.
4
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, thank you. Was there anything else you
5 wanted to raise this evening?
6 MISS STEEL: No, I do not think so.
7 MR. RAMPTON: Might I finally make a polite enquiry out of
concern for my American witnesses, how much longer the
8 defendants think they are going to be with Mr. Preston?
9 MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is your best estimate for remaining
cross-examination of Mr. Preston, bearing in mind that you
10 are leaving some of it over anyway.
11 MISS STEEL: I think probably most of tomorrow. I do not
really know but.....
12
MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I do have to say unless I am satisfied
13 that there is a good reason for that, on this side of the
court the extent to which I shall co-operate in making
14 things easy for the defendants' witnesses will rapidly
evaporate to nothing.
15
MISS STEEL: We are not doing this just for the sake of doing
16 it. We are doing it because we feel there are important
questions to ask.
17 MR. JUSTICE BELL: You are entitled to cross-examine him. It
would help me if everyone bears in time the mind but,
18 nevertheless, is as helpful as possible to each other.
19 What I am going to do is hand those down. If there are
ones which we do not have photocopies of so that we do not
20 end up with the witness having one and no-one else.
We will resume at 10.30 in the morning.
