Day 204 - 15 Jan 96 - Page 27

when Mr. Coton was giving evidence?
       A. Yes, I was.

  Q. Are the contents of that statement true?
       A. Yes, they are.

MR. RAMPTON: Thank you very much.

MS. STEEL: Is there a date on the copy that they have got,
just to check that it is the same one?

MR. RAMPTON: Mine has 3rd January on it.

MS. STEEL: We have not got the same one, then.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have got?

  MR. MORRIS: 22nd December.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. (To the witness): What is your
reference, beneath the place where you could have signed
       and dated it?
       A. 11th January 1996, sir.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is Mrs. Brinley-Codd here?

MR. RAMPTON: No, she is not. My Lord, what I suggest Mr. Davis
does, with Mr. Riley's help -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: She is now. Could we check about that?

  MR. RAMPTON:  It is only this, my Lord, there is no difference;
there were no photocopies made, so all that
Mrs. Brinley-Codd did was to -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Printed them out again?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes. The January date is the date of the reprint.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Very well.

  MR. RAMPTON: Thank you.

                   Cross-examined by the Defendants

MS. STEEL: You carried out most of the training of Ray Coton,
       did you not?
       A. I carried out probably the majority of his training,
       yes.

  Q. And that included training in watering down products and in
docking crew hours in order to save on labour costs?
       A. It certainly did not.

  Q. But the training that you did with Mr. Coton did include
matters such as food costs and payroll matters; yes?
       A. The training that I gave Ray would have been a far more
sort of broader training. As far as specific tasks like
teaching him to do the payroll or -- sorry, what was the
       other thing you mentioned?
