Day 060 - 02 Dec 94 - Page 44

       A. That is what it says.

  Q. Yes. So, the first three do not relate landfill, do they?
       A. No.

  Q. The last one which does relate to landfill, the calculation
is that it is four times more waste by volume?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Yes. So, coming back to the landfill problem, if there may
become a problem with landfill space in this country,
polystyrene foam would certainly be a contributor to making
       that problem, will it not?
       A. If there were a problem, we would need to address the
       issue.

  Q. You are going to wait until there becomes a problem, yes?
       A. We have no indication that there is likely to be a
       problem.

  Q. But the other non-landfill problems with polystyrene foam
as recognised by the McDonald's Corporation does not bother
       you?
       A. Well, I think, as I said earlier in the evidence, that
the next generation of packaging is likely to come along
which will eradicate many of these problems anyway.

  Q. Do you know what date that is planned to happen?
       A. No, I do not because it is at the early stages of the
       development currently.

  Q. The only point I want to raise of relevance to the matters
before lunch was the German packaging ordinances. If you
just refer to Volume V -- we have finished with volume IV
       now -- pink V?
       A. Yes.

  Q. On tab 47?
       A. Yes.

  Q. We have Environmental Newsletter for Europe No. 1, March
       1991, yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Which department would that be sent to?
       A. Which departments would it be sent to?

  Q. Obviously, it would go throughout Europe, yes? Do you
happen to know when a branch of McDonald's received that,
which department it is likely to be copied and sent to?
       A. Well, I notice this is MDC London which is McDonald's
       Development Company, London. McDonald's Development
Company is not part of McDonald's UK and nor are we
responsible to it. McDonald's Development Company provides
a service to European countries that, basically, cannot
provide those services for themselves. So they would
probably not have any direct influence in the UK, France or
Germany or any major developed countries that have major
offices throughout Europe. They are mainly dealing with
the smaller countries in Europe but there may be some
