Day 173 - 16 Oct 95 - Page 23

stores and how much time are you spending at Head Office in
relation to -- well, sorry, perhaps if you could answer:
how much time are you spending at the stores whilst the
       strike was going on?
       A. In 1979?

  Q. While the strike was going on?
       A. I cannot recollect how much time I spent at the
restaurants, but I would have spent some time.

  Q. About the same time as usual?
       A. Possibly less.

  Q. Were you having to spend quite a lot of time at your Head
Office or whatever, wherever it was, dealing with matters
       surrounding the strike?
       A. Yes. I would have spent more time on the supplies.

  Q. What about on trying to resolve the dispute, legal matters
and contacting the Company, the parent Company or -- well,
whatever you, I do not know -- the Corporation?
       A. Well, certainly on legal matters, yes, because we had a
very violent picketing situation. We had to seek a number
of injunctions. So there was quite a lot of time spent
with legal advice on that particular issue.

  Q. What about contact with the US or UK Company; were you
having to spend quite a bit of time sorting that out, as
       well?
       A. No, there was no contact with the UK Company; and there
was some contact with Mr. Copeland from the US Company.

  Q. No contact at all with the UK Company?
       A. No.

  Q. Was Mr. Copeland the only person that you were in contact
       with?
       A. No. I would have had contact with other people from
       other departments.

  Q. What about Mr. Stein, for example?
       A. Mr. Stein, yes. He was in Dublin on one occasion, I
       can recall for sure.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you keep your voice up, please,
       Mr. Mehigan?

  THE WITNESS: Sorry.

MS. STEEL: Just one occasion, or might it have been more than
       that?
       A. It might have been more than that. I cannot recall
exactly. It is a long time ago.

  Q. He had come over to see what was going on with the dispute?
       A. Yes. He had come over at my invitation. It was a
situation I had not encountered before. He gave me advice
       on the legal issues, particularly.

  Q. But on other issues as well?
