3 I do not know if you recall an interview you gave to James
4 Erlickman of The Guardian and Madeleine Bunting. It might
5 have been Madeleine Bunting you directly spoke on the
6 circumstances of the anniversary, the 20th anniversary of
7 the Woolwich store opening. Do you recall that you did
8 give an interview?
9 A. I did a lot of interviews on and around the occasion.
10 I do not recall that specific one but I may very well have.

12 Q. Do you remember saying: "I have never recommended eating a
13 Big Mac every day and I never would but once or twice a
14 week is fine"?
15 A. I may have said it. It is certainly something I would
16 say.

20 responsibility for Austria?
21 A. No, I do not.

29 Q. In Austria, do you know anything about McDonald's products,
30 ie when the first McDonald's shop was owned in Vienna, that
31 the fat content of the burgers was deemed to be too high
32 and they were ordered not to be sold? Do you know anything
33 about that?
34 A. I had no responsibility ever for Austria.

36 Q. Do you know anything about that? Have you heard about
37 that?
38 A. No. I know the food laws in Austria as they relate to
39 the fat content of products is such that it is lower, it
40 certainly was lower in the past, lower than the McDonald's
41 standard, and I know we adhere to that, but I think that
42 has been changed in the last couple of years.

44 Q. Just a couple more points on these related subjects. The
45 outbreak of food poisoning in Preston in 1991?
46 A. Yes?

48 Q. Which McDonald's has admitted responsibility for due to E.
49 Coli contamination. Are you aware of this?
50 A. I am aware of the admission, yes.

52 Q. As regards the microbiological safety of food, the Advisory
53 Committee on the Microbiological Safety of Food has issued
54 a booklet -- this booklet here which we were looking at,
55 I think, a week ago in court -- advising how to deal with
56 E.Coli in all stages in the slaughter houses, in food
57 products, cooking?
58 A. I am not aware of the contents that are in that
59 booklet, no.
