Day 014 - 20 Jul 94 - Page 69
1 Q. Sorry, you do have to say "yes" even though I am making
statements. Then do we see the total fat expressed as a
2 percentage of the calories in that meal or that week?
A. That is right, yes.
3
Q. Then we see that percentage of that total fat percentage
4 which is constituted by saturated fat?
A. Yes.
5
Q. Then we see the amount of calories contributed again as a
6 percentage by extrinsic sugar?
A. Yes.
7
Q. Did you exclude from that lactose in milk?
8 A. Yes, we did.
9 Q. Then you see expressed as milligrams per calorie the
amount of fibre in that meal?
10 A. Yes.
11 Q. Then again expressed as a number of milligrams per calorie
the amount of sodium in that meal?
12 A. Yes.
13 Q. Now can you turn over -- I am coming back to the
children's diet -- to the table 2 on the next page? So
14 that there shall not be any argument about the basis on
which you have calculated the weekly calorie intake for
15 the particular person, I, as you know, have done a
calculation substituting your weekly figure or your daily
16 figure, more particularly, for that provided by the grey
book.
17 A. Yes.
18 Q. Do you remember this morning -- this is why I did it this
morning and I do not want to go back to it -- we worked
19 out that for a man between the ages of 19 and 29, say a 25
year-old, weighing 75 kilograms, that is roughly 11 stone
20 11 pounds, with a physical activity limit of 1.7, his EAR,
his estimated average requirement for energy for a day,
21 was 3,087.5 kilo calories?
A. Yes, very like the American one.
22
Q. Interesting, is it not, except this chap is a bit older.
23
MS. STEEL: Can you remind us what page that is on?
24
MR. RAMPTON: You will be able to derive the figures from a
25 combination of dates which is what I did this morning.
26 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. You went through the arithmetic.
I must say, I am relying on the transcript to remind me
27 what it was.
28 MR. RAMPTON: Anybody who wishes to correct my arithmetic
should certainly apply for an apology because it will be
29 readily granted. Can you look at meal four on page 16,
table 2?
30 A. Yes.
