Day 262 - 13 Jun 96 - Page 22
Q. I mean, if you had heard me say that I had had a hand in
producing the anti-McDonald's leaflets, or something like
that, would you have made a note of that?
A. I probably would have made a note of it, yes.

Q. Because it would have been something quite important?
A. It would have been something noteworthy.

Q. Just one other thing. I mean, you actually used to speak
to me quite a lot, for example, when we went to the pub
afterwards, after the meetings. I mean, you showed us a
card trick and, you know, we used to chat quite a lot. You
recollect that, yes?
A. I do not recollect the particular card trick, but I do
recollect talking to you, yes.

Q. You made a Travelcard in your hand disappear?
A. Right.

Q. Do you recollect it?
A. Not offhand, but I will take your word for it.

MR. MORRIS: Can you make them appear as well? That would be
quite useful!

MS. STEEL: You do not recollect me ever saying to you that
I had produced the anti-McDonald's leaflets, I had written
them or printed them, or anything like that?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He said: "If I had heard you had had a hand
in producing anti-McDonald's leaflets, I would have
probably noted it. It would be noteworthy" -- words to
that effect.

MS. STEEL: Right. That would have been the kind of thing you
would be particularly listening out for, would it not?
A. It would -----

Q. I mean, that is what the investigation was about?
A. It would be something I would certainly make an effort
to try and remember, yes. It was something I would be
likely to have written down, yes.

MS. STEEL: In conversations in the pub -- not just with me, but
with other people -- if you were trying to find out
information, was that the sort of thing you would ask about
as well? For example, you said you might have asked, at
that meeting, you know, how it came about that someone said
the person who wrote the leaflet had left the group; you
said you might have asked that question. That was the sort
of thing that you might have asked us, as individuals, in
the pub?
A. I may well have, should an occasion or the subject have
arisen. I was possibly not bold enough to actually
introduce the subject, but if there was a conversation that
was relevant, it is certainly possible I would have those
questions, yes.

MR. MORRIS: You were still at work in the pub, so to speak? You
were not off duty? You still considered you were
