Day 137 - 19 Jun 95 - Page 19

Its date has been altered. Do you see about half way down
the page? It was originally typed as 31st December 1989
and somebody has put 1990 in its place. Do you see that?
       A. Yes, I do.

  Q. So does this, in fact, cover the year 1990?
       A. Yes, well, the requirements are that you take the last
       payroll period ending date.

  Q. If you look at the overall totals, I am only interested
really in two categories because of the comparative size of
the numbers. The first category is Officials and Managers
of whom there seemed to be 16,910 at that time?
       A. Yes, right.

  Q. Then the last item, Service Workers, No. 9, of whom there
appear to be at that date, the end of 1990, 87,246?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Where are those figures derived from which Mr. Hopson or
his colleagues put into this form?
       A. They come from our payroll records. Our payroll
records are set up not only for pay purposes, but also at
government direction they specify minorities ---

  Q. Is there a code?
       A. -- in women -- yes, through a code, a code system.

  Q. Just a series of numbers is that?
       A. The origin of people, minorities, is on a 1 through 5
       code.

  Q. What is the code for male or female?
       A. M or F, frankly.

  Q. Yes, I see. Are those payroll records then collated or
       stored in a computer?
       A. Yes, I would call it a main frame computer.

  Q. So what does Mr. Hopson do to produce these figures?
       A. He asks an operator who can pull the numbers from the
main frame to pull them, pull a report that he then gets
from the computer, and then he fills out or his secretary
but, in any event, he would review the information that is
taken from the computer, then would verify it by signing
       his name to it.

  Q. If you look at D1 ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- I have found it convenient to take one of the documents
out so that one can have them side by side: You will see
that under Officials and Managers in the first table on D1
there is in italic writing under the title Officials and
Managers the figure 16,910 employed by McD, do you see
       that?
       A. Yes, I do.

  Q. Which is the same figure as the first entry in D2?
       A. Yes.
