Day 117 - 27 Apr 95 - Page 40

MS. STEEL: I may not agree with it; that is the only thing.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you disagree with what he says you stand
up and say so. If you come back on Monday and say, "I want
to modify it", of course I will hear what you say, but do
your best now. What about Mr. Nicholson.

MR. MORRIS: I have a list somewhere.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Take each witness at a time and ask Ms. Steel
before you give me a combined estimate. Mr. Nicholson
       first.

MR. MORRIS: These are very rough guides.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do your best.

  MR. MORRIS:  Mr. Nicholson something between four and six days;
Jill Barnes two to four days; Chris Purslow two to three
days. Lyn Mead I have a question mark; I have not
       calculated that one.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just give the broadest estimate now.

MR. MORRIS: I have not looked at her statement for six months
or something, I cannot even remember.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think your cross-examination of her may not
be so very long, because a number of the things she deals
with the ground will have been covered with Mr. Nicholson.
I am going to put for the moment "query two days equals my
       suggestion". What about Mr. Stein?

MR. MORRIS: I have got down here four to eight days. Helen
thinks it will be nearer to eight than four.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we go back to Mr. Beavers then?

MR. MORRIS: I have not calculated that because I have not made
       any preparations for Mr. Beavers.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How much longer do you think you had to ask
questions of him from when he left in the summer?

MR. MORRIS: Well, from what I recall we hardly asked him
anything. It was less than a day. We will try to complete
him within the week that he is down for. He is only down
for four days, but it is very difficult to say because
cross-examination depends on the witnesses really and their
answers. Mr. Rampton does not usually bother to
cross-examine our witnesses on their evidence; that is why
his ones can be calculated -- probably because the evidence
is so strong he does not want to challenge it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You are going to try to finish Mr. Beavers in
this week anyway; that is the best you can say at the
       moment, is it?

MR. MORRIS: Yes. He is only down for four days. It would have
been prudent to put him down for a week.
