Day 280 - 17 Jul 96 - Page 25

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There will have to be to be argument about
that. There may be other bits and pieces. I have not
checked my notes, so if we could break now?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will adjourn now until two o'clock.

                         (Lunch adjournment)

MS. STEEL: Just before we go on to the Clauphine Carston
statement, can I just say that I cannot remember when it
was but at some stage during the publication evidence Mr.
Rampton asked whether or not if I could find the negatives
for the photographs that I took on the 16th October, 1989.
I have found them and I have got another set done which are
actually quite a lot better than the original set. So, if
anybody wants to look at them, I will leave them in Court.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I would quite like to do, if I may, is
take them out with me this evening but I will return them
some time. Has Mr. Rampton actually seen them?

MS. STEEL: Not this set. They are still not brilliant but they
are a lot better than the other set.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You look at them overnight and, unless there
is any objection, I will look through them as well. These
are 16th October 1989, are they?

MS. STEEL: Yes, the black and white ones.

MR. RAMPTON: Can I do this, my Lord? I will look at them when
your Lordship rises this afternoon, which will certainly be
before 4.15, and then leave them in Court?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: So that your Lordship can have them for the rest
of this week and next. I will leave them, my Lord, with
your associate to be picked up.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, thank you. Yes.

MS. STEEL: There are various things I want to say about Miss
Leanne Carston's statement and its admissibility.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: The first is obviously that we got the statement
because that was what we were, you know, basically asked to
do. If we wanted to have any -- when it was raised before
about relying on, or putting Civil Evidence Act statements
in the Mother Jones article, it was said if we wanted any
weight to be attributed to that at all we needed to get a
statement from the author confirming that the quotes were
correct. So that is what we did.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: As regards what is in Phipson and the White Book, I
still cannot personally understand what appears to be a
