Day 006 - 05 Jul 94 - Page 77

     1 A. Bozo the clown?

2 Q. I think he may have been the forerunner to Ronald
              McDonald.
3 A. I am not familiar with Bozo the clown, sorry.

4 Q. Would you agree with the statement: No other marketing
factor has been more important in distinguishing
5 McDonald's as a leader in fastfood than its early decision
to appeal to children through advertising?
6 A. I think that is basically true, yes, sure. It is a
major strength of building the company.
     7
         Q. Right. What about the statement: "I knew if we could get
8 to kids we could get their folks too"?
              A. Well, who supposedly said that?
     9
         Q. A guy call Zien?
    10 A. Who?

11 Q. This was before you were involved in the company, so
perhaps it is unlikely you will have heard of him, unless
12 he is part of the folk law?
              A. What is name?
    13
         MR. MORRIS: Z-I-E-N.
    14
MR. RAMPTON: Are we going back then into distance?
    15
MR. JUSTICE BELL: In fairness to Miss Steel having raised the
16 question, she then conceded it might be before.

17 MR. RAMPTON: Wherever a date is possible to be given it does
              help.
18 A. The name is not even familiar with me, Zien.

19 MISS STEEL: We will leave that. There is something that
Mr. Morris and myself would like to talk about, so perhaps
20 I will leave that for now and talk about it over night. I
              do not know.
    21
MR. MORRIS: We are doing bits and piece.
    22
MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think we are grinding to a halt. We will
23 call it a day. Thank you, Mr. Preston, if you would like
              to leave the witness box.
    24
                              (The witness withdrew)
    25
MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I do not know how much longer Mr.
26 Preston is going to be in the witness box, but I make no
complaint about it at this stage. I merely observe that
27 we have now got to the end of Tuesday. I have got two
American witnesses in court, one of whom, if it is humanly
28 possible, I should like to call tomorrow and complete, and
because, it is perhaps not an over-riding consideration,
29 he would not agree with that, he has a family holiday
starting, it is only five days, on Friday and he wants to
30 leave, if he possible can, on Thursday morning. That is
              Mr. Kouchoukos.
