Day 079 - 27 Jan 95 - Page 45
A. No.

Q. It is fresh, chilled?
A. Yes, we may have in the past have bought some frozen
from him but I am not aware of it.

Q. When Richard North visited McKey, did you go around with
him.
A. Yes.

Q. Personally?
A. Yes.

Q. At all times?
A. Yes.

Q. Have you ever been on an inspection of an abattoir with one
of your inspectors to actually see an actual inspection?
A. Yes.

Q. Rather than just a high flying visit, if you like?
A. Yes. I have done the inspections myself.

Q. You have done them yourself?
A. Yes.

Q. Is that a position for which you need qualification?
A. Not necessarily, you can be trained to do it. You can
be trained do it. But, I mean, most of my technical people
have got qualifications but that is a bonus.

Q. When you have done an inspection with one of your
inspectors, do you get the impression that you get a
sanitized picture or do you get an accurate picture of the
day-to-day?
A. No, we do not get a sanitized picture because we have
all have enough experience that we know where to look if we
want to find trouble, and we can find it if it is there.

Q. Does the abattoir that you visit ever object to an
inspection by someone from McKey's?
A. No -- they know they dare not.

Q. They dare not?
A. No.

Q. What happens if you wanted to bring someone with you?
A. If I wanted to visit an abattoir and they stopped me at
the gate, I would delist that abattoir at once.

Q. What happens, though, if you brought someone, say, from the
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries or someone from
another country, or something, they might object then?
A. Well, you do that by request. I mean, if I had an
occasion that someone wanted to visit an abattoir, I could
not request of an abattoir that they see an outside
visitor. I cannot force them to, but I would be very
surprised if they did not. I mean, it is just business
politeness. It is business common sense. It is good
manners.
