Day 207 - 23 Jan 96 - Page 17

       A. No, I do not remember this being a problem.

  Q. Right. I think we have dealt with the next page in
general. OK. The last store audit is 6th October 94 under
Phil Cummings which is on page 182. He managed to get
       grades C, C, A, C minus, F, C, an overall grade of C. On
that page it has the turnover figures, 179 per cent.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The figure beneath is the average for the
       region, is it, 97.83?

MR. MORRIS: Yes. (To the witness): It does say here on
page 183, SSP administration which is the third from last,
two weekly sickness reports completed, nought out of 10.
Bearing in mind that you got nought out of 10 for the
previous audit on SSP administration, you still do not
recall what that is all about then?
       A. Well, as I recollect, the old system when they used to
use clock cards, et cetera, there would be an SSP form
submitted with the payroll for some reason. So, when they
tallied the clock cards and put it on to a payroll sheet to
be sent, as far as I was aware, this sickness report was
completed at that time. But, on the Hunter you actually
typed the S -- any people who were sick for the period
actually into the computer itself, and then that would
generate a report when the system was shut on a weekly
       basis.

  Q. So people actually had to consciously add that information
when they are putting information on to the Hunter?
       A. They would -- they would actually type it into the
keyboard display, and it would display on the screen.

  Q. So, in these audits, is that a recognition that was not
       being done?
       A. I cannot comment on whether it is a recognition of the
sick pay not being typed into the computer, or whether it
is a recognition of the fact that they could not find the
statutory printout on the herald thing.

  Q. Right. Just one question on 186, uniforms. This is at the
bottom of "Crew Facilities": "Supply, storage and
conditions - door locks, no access". Do you know what that
is about? Nought out of 20?
       A. Sorry, page 186, you say?

  Q. Yes. It is just the last point under "Crew Facilities"?
       A. I mean, it could be that the door was not locked or,
I do not know, because I did not carry out the audit.
There is no supplementary information to that.

  Q. Right. I mean, crew have to wear a uniform, do they not?
       A. They do.

  Q. It is quite important to them, is it not, that it fits and
they have got replacements and things like that?
       A. Yes. It is important that they are supplied with
uniform and replacements as and when they need them.

  Q. Right. Under 187, "Hours of work regulations", it says,
