Day 142 - 26 Jun 95 - Page 36

       please.
       A. Yes, I have it.

MR. MORRIS: So McDonald's (Denmark) does not or did not then
have any objections to under school aged children working
at McDonald's is that the situation?
       A. I have no knowledge of this, so I do not know what this
       is, to be very blunt.

  Q. It is not under school age, under school leaving age.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You are assuming that it is 16 in Denmark or
       was in 1985, are you?

MR. MORRIS: I am assuming it is the same as here.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, it might be 19 or 20, for all one knows.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I only picked it up because you used the
phrase "under school leaving age" rather than aged 15.

MR. MORRIS: Or aged 15. (To the witness): In the USA do you
have any policy against hiring employees who are under
       school leaving age?
       A. Under school leaving age?

  Q. In Britain there is a minimum, there is a minimum age at
which all children cannot leave school?
       A. OK.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is it the same throughout the States or
       varies from ---
       A. It would vary by jurisdiction; it would be a state or
       local matter.

  Q. -- state to state?
       A. It would be a state or a local matter with regard to
       leaving school, my Lord.

MR. MORRIS: Does McDonald's have any policy on this about
employment or it is basically up to managers who they
       recruit?
       A. We are talking two different things here, I think, my
Lord. While students are in school they can work at
McDonald's. It should not interfere with their studies.
Is he saying that they have left school?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. I think school in the States applies to
university; you talk of "school" meaning university as well
       as when you are ---
       A. In public school?

  Q. Yes.
       A. Yes, schooling to me -----

  Q. Is education?
       A. Right, exactly.

  Q. Is there an age before which you cannot leave public
       school?
