Day 074 - 16 Jan 95 - Page 54

night and when we investigated it was in -- may I have a
       look at the map, please?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just stick to environment/index.html">litter.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. What I am saying is, if you can cast your
mind back, you have said something like you got three or
four complaints a year when you were there as manager?
       A. Correct.

  Q. That was about environment/index.html">litter?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Were there dozens of other complaints you got from people
about other subjects, whatever the subjects were, or was it
       just two or three?
       A. No, there were other concerns.

  Q. So if you wanted to hazard a guess at approximately how
many complaints you got per year, if there were three or
four for environment/index.html">litter, how many were there for other matters?
       A. Other matters 10, eight or 10, something like that.

  Q. So a fair figure would be about a dozen a year altogether
       complaints on average?
       A. Yes, but I must clarify there were some
       misunderstandings.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not worry about that. Take it step by
       step.

MR. MORRIS: If we go back to page 751, at the top of the page
it says that the Council presumably have received 33
complaints in the past 12 months. Does that surprise you?
       A. It does.

  Q. So some people seem to be taking their -- or was that
something you were aware of, that people were complaining
to other bodies as well as complaining direct to the
       restaurant?
       A. Yes, I was aware.

  Q. You were aware?
       A. But not of all of the complaints because I do not
remember the EHO, the name of the gentleman who sometimes
used to come in just to make sure that everything was
       satisfactory.

  Q. I will move on to page 755. I am sorry if we are dodging
about on dates, but I cannot work out any other system of
doing this effectively. This is a letter from the
       Wellington Square Residents Association?
       A. Yes, sir.

  Q. Do you happen to know what that name is at the bottom, just
       out of interest?
       A. "Yours Sincerely", there is nothing here.

  Q. It says, "Yours Sincerely" and then it has a name I cannot
read, N. Mill or Mull. I do not know. It does not matter.
