Day 259 - 10 Jun 96 - Page 25

  Q. Unfortunately, mine are not in the same order as yours, but
I have a page which is dated 27/4, which says "Sid
       Nicholson from....."

MR. RAMPTON: No. It is "phoned from".

MS. STEEL: Sorry. "....re BBC Wildlife on One programme of
       26/4"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So, do you recollect that now?
       A. Recollect what: the fact that we took action against
BBC? Absolutely, I remember it quite clearly.

  Q. You were involved in that?
       A. Yes. But I am afraid I do not know anything about this
       matter.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What it looks as if happened is,
Mr. Nicholson telephoned, and then whoever was making these
attendance notes or a colleague spoke to Mr. Walker at
McKey on the phone, and he hand delivered the Vestey
letter, and then Mr. Nicholson came round, and then
Mr. Nicholson came with McDonald's Canada file.

  THE WITNESS: Yes.

  MR. MORRIS: Canada file?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: But there is one before that, saying "SN came to
the house with video and McDonald's UK...."

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am not reading it all out. I am just
saying a lot was going on. It was not just Mr. Nicholson
who was giving information; Mr. Walker was, as well.

MS. STEEL: Right. (To the witness) So, the other page then,
you are saying that was not information from you?
       A. What, that second page?

  Q. Yes.
       A. What I am calling the second page, the one headed
       "UK"?

  Q. Yes.
       A. I know nothing about intervention beef and stuff like
that; it is just not my subject. I could not have given
Ian Jenkins that. I do not know it.

  Q. You knew about the preparations for legal action?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So, you would have been told, unless your solicitors were
keeping things from you, about what Mr. Walker had said?
       A. Well, I take it they did, yes. I feel pretty sure they
would have done. But I mean, I do not know anything about
intervention beef. What I was interested in was the
       programme.
