Day 030 - 03 Oct 94 - Page 77

  Q. Where otherwise would one manage to get a copy of that?
       A. With some difficulty which is why I would like it to
be possible to loan it to Mr. Rampton; it would be the
       simplest thing.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Ms. Steel and Mr. Morris, is there any
reason at all why Mr. Cannon should not ring
Mrs. Brinley-Codd direct to make an arrangement for loan
       of the book?

MR. MORRIS: No problem to us at all.

THE WITNESS: These two fat books are ones that would be rather
difficult to get hold of, simply because they are
       American.

MR. MORRIS: Could I just ask that if Mr. Rampton does copy the
pages that we get a copy as well?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Rampton, when whoever looks at the books
has looked at them, if there are pages which you are going
to want to deal with in cross-examination, obviously we
       all need copies of them.

MR. RAMPTON: Of course. I need a copy as well because I am
not going to mark Mr. Cannon's book, so I need to make
copies of the relevant pages anyway.

Mr. Cannon, there are in fact I think four of these
references which are said to be extracts only from larger
publications. The two difficult ones, as I understand it,
are 4 and 5, is that right?
       A. No 4 and 7 -- sorry, excuse me, no, 4, yes, which is
       this one.

  Q. Yes.
       A. But also Diet and Health which is the 1989 NAS report.

  Q. Which is referred to in this sheet?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: I have not seen the 1989 one.

THE WITNESS: The international conference on nutrition,
I think probably the best -- there is only one page there
that has any bearing on this case at all, but if you want
to see it all it will be a question of photocopying it
all. That would also be quite a lot.

MR. MORRIS: It is not very big that document, it is about 60
       pages.

THE WITNESS: That is this one.

MR. RAMPTON: I will not cross-examine you about that statement
at the moment. But I would like, if I may, to assure
myself that what you say is adequate. Mr. Cannon, if you
are to come back in the week beginning 17th October, what
I would ask you to do, if you would be very kind, is to
