Day 077 - 25 Jan 95 - Page 79

       A. At that time (and I am speaking from memory) I think
Braslo was buying meat from Anglo, but that was not my
business and it was not what I was there for.

  Q. I understand that. You were not importing ready-made
       hamburgers from Brazil, were you?
       A. Oh, no.

  Q. You were importing -----
       A. Boneless chuck and blade.

  Q. That was direct from Weddel?
       A. That was direct from -- Weddel was the agent, direct
from the meat plant at Barretos.

  Q. I see. You spent the Monday at Weddel office in San Paulo?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Did you go to Barretos?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you remember when, what day, Monday night/Tuesday
       morning?
       A. I honestly cannot remember now. I can remember flying
up there. I can remember being met by a car at the
airport. I was amazed at the man who met me I knew,
because we had been together in Australia, which was a
coincidence. Those sort of things I can remember but
I cannot remember whether I went out Monday evening or
       Tuesday morning.

  Q. Did you discuss with anybody when were you out there where
the beef had been grown, where it came from?
       A. Oh, yes.

  Q. With whom did you discuss that question?
       A. A fellow by the name of Peter Day.

  Q. What company did you work for?
       A. He worked for Frigorifico, Barretos, Weddel plant.

MS. STEEL: Could you repeat that?

MR. RAMPTON: He worked for the Vesty Company -- it is difficult
-- the Refrigerated Anglo Company; is that right?
Frigorifico Anglo, I think it is called.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: In Barretos itself? Did you say in Barretos?
       A. In Barretos itself, yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Did you leave Barretos at any time during your
stay and go out into the country?
       A. Yes, I did.

  Q. With whom?
       A. With Day.

  Q. For what purpose?
       A. To look at cattle growing.
