concerned, I guess -- I became concerned that American
medicine was not doing enough to prevent illnesses, and
I formed an organisation called the Physicians Committee
       for Responsible Medicine.

However, concurrent with that, I moved back down to
Washington DC, was the associate director of the
psychiatric clinic at George Washington University, and
concurrent with that joined the Institute for Disease
Prevention, which is part of the cancer research effort of
the George Washington University School of Medicine, where
I was associate director for behavioural studies, and
conducted research on behavioural factors that might
       assist in cancer prevention.

  Q. That was about what time?
       A. I believe that was around 1988 and continued until
about 1992. In that capacity I have conducted research on
factors that might assist people in changing their
behaviour so as to particularly reduce the incidence of
       cancer.

  Q. Now, if we can move on briefly to some of the -- you have
written widely, is that correct, on this subject?
       A. Well, I have published accounts in the medical
literature as well as books for the lay reader.

  Q. Have you also written editorials for medical magazines?
       A. Yes, I have written a number of editorials both for
medical magazines as well as for the lay press and have
some additional research studies that are about to be
       printed shortly.

  Q. Is it true that you are writing an editorial for a journal
published by the American Medical Association?
       A. This next month the American Medical Association will
be publishing a review that I conducted on factors that
facilitate dietary change to prevent chronic disease. One
of the American Medical Association's journals is called
       The Archives of Family Medicine.

  Q. Very briefly, do you want to say something about the books
       you have published?
       A. The first book on nutrition I published was called The
Power of Your Plate, which came out in 1990, and was
predicated on a series of detailed interviews with Dr.
Denis Burkitt, a well known cancer researcher, as well as
Peter Greenwald, who is also the Head of Cancer Prevention
and controls the National Cancer Institute; Oliver
Alabaster, who is the Head of Cancer Research at the
George Washington University, and quite a number of other
experts. Their findings were described in lay terms,
along with references for interested professionals and
published in a volume called The Power of your Plate.

Subsequently I wrote a book on weight control called The
Physicians' Slimming Guide and a book called Food for
Life, published by one of the random house divisions
called Harmony Books in 1993, which summarises dietary
factors in heart disease, in cancer, in obesity and in
