Day 275 - 08 Jul 96 - Page 36
anything to hide. So, it was just left there, but we were,
you know, a bit suspicious about some people, and I think
that is probably what happened with Mr. Bishop. He was not
exactly kind of run-of-the-mill in terms of the sort of
people that turned up at Greenpeace meetings because of his
age and because of, I don't know, just his demeanour, I
suppose, I don't know really.

The next one that I wanted to refer to is page 139.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: 14th June?
A. Yes. This is the notes of Alan Clare of 14th June
1990. He say that I was present at the meeting and he goes
on to say that the meeting finished reasonably early
because Mr. Gravett and myself were going for a drink with
friends. This is completely untrue. I was not at this
meeting. I was on Barra in the outer Hebrides, and if I
can just refer to the postcard that was sent while I was on
holiday on Barra, it is dated 18th June 1990, and the first
part is not actually written by me.

It says, "Barra sure is all you described" and then I
blanked out the name of the person it was sent to because
it is completely irrelevant. "It has been a great week or
so, a much needed escape from London", and I will not read
out all the rest of it, but I will not read out all my
spelling mistakes either. I refer to various things that
we have been doing over the past week, and then I also
refer to an intention to sit up Ben Haeval for sunrise on
21st, which obviously is the longest day, and it is my
recollection that I had gone away -- well, I was away for
about two weeks, so over that period, and had gone away
about a week before this postcard was written. I think it
was the 11th that I actually got the ferry over to Barra.

Going on to the notes of Mr. Bishop on page 149, which
is the 16th June 1990. I was not at this event but I just
wanted to point out that where he refers to, in the middle
paragraph, talking about the organisers of the march, "one
of these, Andrew Clarke, talked to Paul". Then he says in
brackets "Andrew Clarke later turned out to be the Charlie
previously referred to", just obviously Charlie and Andrew
Clarke are two different people and Andrew has never been
known as Charlie and Charlie has never been known as
Andrew. So that is a clear misunderstanding or mistake by
Mr. Bishop.

The next one that I wanted to refer to are the notes
of Frances Tiller of 29th June 1990. I think it is page
153B, but I might be wrong. I am not sure which ones come
first, whether it is the notes or the agency report.

Q. Well, I have the report at 154A, and I have the notes at
154E?
A. I have got 153 for some reason.

Q. I may be wrong, but it is somewhere in that region.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, my report begins at 154A and runs through
to 154, 'D' for Donald.
