Day 261 - 12 Jun 96 - Page 52
Q. No idea?
A. No idea at all.

MS. STEEL: In terms of people who were regulars, the names
that you said this morning, what about John; was he someone
you considered a regular -- New Zealand John?
A. I suppose he was regular, in that I saw him on a number
of occasions. I have to know what you mean by "regular" to
be able to answer that.

Q. It was actually you who agreed with who -- I think you were
asked who the regulars were.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He is merely asking for clarification now.

MS. STEEL: I am using the same terms as whatever was used this
morning.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. But it seems to me fair enough that if
one wants to be more specific, rather than just speaking in
general terms, if you want to ask about a particular
person, it is just as well to know what "regular" is to
mean for the purpose of question and answer.

MS. STEEL: (To the witness) You put down Paul Gravett,
myself, Mr. Morris, Jane Laporte and Andrew Clarke as
regulars. Would you also agree, by that definition that
you have given for those people, would you also agree that
John, Marion, Jonathan, Charlie, or any of those, would fit
into that category?
A. Yes, it is possible that maybe Charlie -- to be
perfectly honest with you, I do not recall who John is.
The name, you say New Zealand John. I presume that is the
chap who went over to New Zealand and came back again. But
this is a long time ago, and a lot of individuals I do not
remember, because I did not speak to very much or very
often.

Q. Is part of the reason you do not remember a lot of these
people because they were not the ones that either became
defendants in the case or became witnesses for the defence?
A. Well, I was not aware at that time that a case was
being formed.

Q. I know. But you said you do not remember John, New Zealand
John, for example; and he actually gets extensive mention
in your notes. So, in terms of the regulars that you have
remembered -- I mean, have you read all of our witness
statements, for example, Jane Laporte's statement,
Charlie Brooks' statement, Paul Gravett's statement
and -----
A. I think I have, yes, but a long time ago. I certainly
have not read them recently.

Q. And of course you saw Jane Laporte in court yesterday?
A. Yes.

Q. So, is it possible that the reason you gave those names
this morning is because you have been reminded, either by
the proceedings or by seeing those people, that, you know,
