Day 022 - 12 Sep 94 - Page 65

       changes, can there?
       A. No. I think one of the criticisms of this study is
that the number of women who are actually in the group who
take the highest intake of meat -- pork, for example --
are quite small. Even though it is an overall large
study, people have questioned the validity of it. But,
you know, as I have said before, some studies do show an
apparent relationship between fat and meat intake and
breast cancer and others do not. So, I do not think you
can actually say that one study necessarily proves the
       point.

  Q. No, I am just saying this is one of a number.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is the date of this one?
       A. This is 1978.

MR. MORRIS: I was just going to suggest a five-minute break.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is five past four anyway, so I think we
will finish the evidence for today there. Thank you,
Dr. Arnott. Shall we just cover the timetable? Do you
think you will take tomorrow or most of tomorrow with
Dr. Arnott, Mr. Morris and Ms. Steel?

MR. MORRIS: I think we should finish by lunch time.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Then I have defendants' nutrition witnesses
in there. What does that mean, or what was it intended to
       mean?

MR. MORRIS: What table have you got?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have one which starts on Monday 12th
September and goes up to Friday, 2nd December. Do you
       have that?

MR. MORRIS: I do not think so, no.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, they have had it.

MS. STEEL: There has been a more recent one than that
though. Is that the one that was sent on 16th August?

  MR. RAMPTON: Yes, it is.

MS. STEEL: So there has been one since then.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can I just hand down the one I have because
if there is some question there may have been a more
       up-to-date one.

  MR. RAMPTON: No, my Lord.

MS. STEEL: We have a handwritten one.

MR. RAMPTON: The printed one your Lordship has is merely a
       printed version.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is the latest one.
