Day 019 - 27 Jul 94 - Page 72
1 the duration of the current?
A. Yes.
2
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let me ask: Did you have any reason to
3 believe that any of the birds stunned as they were when
they came out of the bath with the electrode which did not
4 extend to the full length of the bath were sentient?
A. At the time of exiting from the bath, when I inspected
5 them in that area, they were insentient.
6 Q. So your qualification is that at the earlier inspection
when the electrode did not extend to the full length of
7 the bath they may not have been instantaneously stunned,
or there was a greater risk of that?
8 A. It is not known whether they were or whether they were
not.
9
MS. STEEL: I am getting really tired and a bit piecey. There
10 is quite a lot on this I would like to go into.
11 MR. JUSTICE BELL: On the slaughter of the birds?
12 MS. STEEL: Yes.
13 MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will call it a day there, Dr. Gregory.
Can you leave the witness box?
14
MR. MORRIS: Can you confirm one thing? This report in B is
15 for Sun Valley because it has been blanked out in the
heading for some reason?
16 A. Sorry?
17 Q. The report on 5(b) is about Sun Valley specifically?
A. Yes.
18
MR. RAMPTON: Other volume.
19
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Orange volume B, your 18th February 1993?
20 A. That is correct. It is about Sun Valley.
21 MR. MORRIS: Do we know why it was blanked out? Did you blank
out the heading?
22 A. Yes, I believe I did. It is a good question. I
cannot remember what the circumstances were at the time.
23 Let me cast my mind back. I will try to answer the
question. This was done as a confidential report for the
24 company. They asked for my services in doing this
report. Out of respect of confidentiality, I blanked out
25 the name. It was then up to the solicitors to decide, and
Sun Valley to decide, whether it should be released
26 information, so I took it out for confidentiality reasons.
27 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you, Dr. Gregory. We have to think
about where we are going, so far as timing is concerned.
28 What is your best estimate of the remaining
cross-examination for Dr. Gregory?
29
MR. MORRIS: I think we are pretty much aware that we have to
30 finish him tomorrow, because Professor Wheelock has to be
finished on Friday.
