Day 062 - 06 Dec 94 - Page 37

think about where we have got to until 2 o'clock.

MR. MORRIS: I think that is all with the Manchester recycling
       plant.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Very well. 2 o'clock.

                       (Luncheon Adjournment)
                                               2.00 p.m.

MS. STEEL: I wanted to ask about when the various changes were
made with regard to recycled content in the packaging?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What do you know about the recycled content of paper bags,
when they changed, when that was changed and what
percentages of recycled material were in the bags at what
       period?
       A. When we joined the system the recycled content was
       50 per cent.

  Q. Sorry, was that 1991?
       A. That was 1991, and in 1991 the percentage changed to
       80 per cent.

  Q. Is that the 60 to 80 per cent?
       A. 60 to 80 per cent which I reported, which at this point
in time I am not 100 per cent certain about since the
supplier stated to me 50 per cent to 80 per cent.

  Q. 50 to 80 per cent?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Was that throughout the whole of 1991 then?
       A. No, that has happened in 1991. By the numbers that
I can reconstruct at the time, it must have been somewhere
through the middle of 1991, maybe the beginning of quarter
three, the beginning of quarter four, something like that.

  Q. Right. Quarter three, would that have been ---
       A. There is also a ----

  Q. -- June?
       A. Sorry, there is also a bit of delay, why I am saying
this is there is often a bit of delay between the time a
producer actually makes the bags, they are kept in a
storage, in their own storage. We require all our
suppliers to keep a certain stock available, so that in
times of necessity they have something available, they do
not first need to start making; then, secondly, there is a
stock at the DCs and then the individual restaurants have
actually got a stock of some. So, when it is exactly
reaching the market, it will be somewhere quarter three
       1991, quarter four 1991.

  Q. Is that the same for the whole of Europe or what?
       A. No. It is not the same for the whole of Europe. That
is for -- that is the case for ---

  Q. The UK?
