Day 174 - 17 Oct 95 - Page 14
MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you refer to part of the statement, just
give the page and the paragraph, and anyone who is
interested can look it up.

MR. MORRIS: It is paragraph 18 on page 7.

MS. STEEL: Internal page 7.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause a moment.

MR. MORRIS: (To the witness) So you had a meeting with the
union -----

MR. RAMPTON: I am sorry, my Lord, that is not what the
statement says.

MR. MORRIS: I am just reading out what it said from the
statement: "My meeting with the Irish Transport and General
Workers Union on 10th September 1979".

(To the witness) You had a meeting -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just -----

MR. MORRIS: Well, Mr. Rampton just keeps interrupting.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It does not matter.

MR. RAMPTON: I had not realised what he was getting at.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Rampton interrupted in error. Just take
it easy. Concentrate on the witness, not Mr. Rampton.

(To the witness) So you had a meeting with the union on
10th September, 1979?
A. Yes, my Lord, that is correct.

MR. MORRIS: It was not the only occasion on which you had met
with them, because you met them previously anyway, had you
not; you had met Mr. Mullen previously?
A. That is correct.

Q. You did say earlier on that you met informally on
7th September, in the previous paragraph, after you had
accepted the recommendations. So was there a couple of
meetings, then, in September, one informal and presumably
one -----
A. There was one meeting that I can recall.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There was a meeting, and then, as
I understand it, there was a telephone conversation on
21st September?
A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: So is that a misprint, then, because in
paragraph 16, you say: "On 7th September I met informally
with the union"?
A. It may be. I have no -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is the previous page.
