Day 066 - 14 Dec 94 - Page 75
A. Yes, I do.

Q. The first table is World Livestock Numbers?
A. Yes, World Meat Production.

Q. I am interested because I do not want to compare apples
with oranges in World Meat Production. Can you tell us
what the units are which are stated on the right-hand side
at the top of the table?
A. On the bottom of the table?

Q. No. If you run your eye across from the heading "World
Meat Production" there are some little letters which state
what the units are?
A. Yes, thousands of carcass, pounds of carcass weight in
thousands.

Q. In pounds and thousands. Thank you very much. The total
usage in the world in 1990 -- I will have to write that
out -- the total at the bottom of the column, yes, you see
the first column in the second table which says 49066, does
it not?
A. Yes, that is correct.

Q. 49066. If I add three noughts to that, yes?
A. Yes.

Q. I seem to have a figure for the total world meat production
in 1990 which is less than that used by McDonald's in the
USA, so that cannot be right, can it?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Why do you add three noughts?

MR. RAMPTON: Because these are thousands of pounds. Never
mind, perhaps we can sort this out before you go.

MR. MORRIS: I would have thought it is thousands of tonnes, but
I cannot read that at all.

MR. RAMPTON: That is what I assumed. We will sort it out.
A. Maybe this will help. When we went through the numbers
I produced all of the calculations and came out with the
numbers.

Q. Did you?
A. Yes, I did.

Q. Do you think you have them here in England with you?
A. Yes, I do.

Q. Perhaps between now and the time you go back you can let us
have them and then we can clarify them.

MS. STEEL: Is that the actual chart that the witness has got
with him or is that the figures he worked out? If he has
got the chart it would be very helpful if we could have a
copy that has not been through five fax machines.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you have any copies of these sheets which
are rather more legible?
