Day 267 - 21 Jun 96 - Page 41

       York about McDonald's"?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. Can you just look at this letter for a moment? (Same
handed). That is a letter from Peter Taulk there, and is
that your writing at the top of the page which says
       "Caledonian Road, 8th of the 5th 90"?
       A. It looks like it, yes.

  Q. Do you recognise all the other letters there? They were
disclosed to us as letters taken by inquiry agents?
       A. I have not seen it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How many letters is he to look at?

MS. STEEL: Well, actually some of them are just cover sheets.
Most of it is a big letter at the back which has got a
whole load of documents with it?
       A. Sorry? What am I looking at?

MS. STEEL: Whether or not you recognise those as the letters
that you took, bearing in mind they have been disclosed to
us as letters taken from the group by inquiry agents, and
that you do recognise that particular one?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: By an inquiry agent or inquiry agents?

MS. STEEL: When I wrote the letter referring to Mr. Claire's
statement, because he said about having taken letters, I
asked for all letters to be disclosed which had been taken
by inquiry agents and that is what was given in response?
       A. I do not recall. After this amount of time, if it
said Mr. Peter Taulk then that is Peter Taulk, but I cannot
       recall from here.

  Q. You cannot recall all the rest of them?
       A. Well, no.

  Q. But you might well have taken them?
       A. I recall taking letters, or a couple of letters, on
       occasion.

  Q. But you did admit just a moment ago to taking a number on
       one occasion?
       A. I dare say a number on one occasion. I cannot
recall. If I said a number, I said a number, but I do not
recall what I would have taken.

MR. MORRIS: Right. You were just trying to get hold of any
letters you could get hold of, so you do not particularly
remember when it was or how many you took?
       A. No, the letters I would have taken would be
specifically relating to the antiMcDonald's campaign and
would more than likely have come from abroad.

  Q. Right. But any letters coming from that category about the
antiMcDonald's campaign you would have tried to get hold
       of?
       A. No, not at all. I may have made a mental note. I may
have made a note of the content, or a relevant part of that
