Day 164 - 26 Sep 95 - Page 46
about the musicians union, and it goes on to the next
page. There is then, I do not know whether that is one
line or one and a half lines or two and a half lines that
have been blanked out. There is something in brackets
which says: "Within the group I have often observed this
assumption that someone can do something for no reason
other than it is there. It seems to be assumed by an
individual that if one is interested in the subject then
everybody else is." Obviously he is talking there about
something he said in the paragraph that has been blanked
out. He is talking about the way that the Group works and
obviously that has a bearing on matters in issue.

As I said, I have not prepared this by going through and
picking out every single example, but I hope that the
general picture is clear.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Are there any parts where you say that what
comes before and what comes afterwards would give some
indication that what is blocked out was related to
McDonald's? Do you recall anything like that?

MS. STEEL: There are, but, with respect, that is not the
complete test. It does not matter about whether it is just
related to McDonald's.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have your point about that, but
nevertheless I am asking you, you see. If I do not agree
with your argument it would help me to know whether there
are parts which are in there which would indicate that what
came immediately before or immediately after could well
have been about McDonald's.

MS. STEEL: There was one particular example that I did
notice. I am trying to find it. It is the notes of
Mr. Pocklington on 18th January 1990.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: The introductory paragraph just says: "Arrived and
the following people were present." On the following page
the only passage that is not blanked out says: "No more
information was forthcoming concerning the client company
or any relevant information relevant to this matter", which
indicates that there was some information forthcoming
concerning the client company which, as we all know, was
McDonald's.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have to say I read that just as saying the
client company was not discussed at all at that meeting.

MS. STEEL: In that case it would just say, "No information was
forthcoming concerning the client company".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No more information than he has got at
previous meetings. Anyway, you say that is not right, that
it indicates that there was something blanked out. Have
you got any others apart from that?

MS. STEEL: I do not have any examples to hand.
