Day 086 - 09 Feb 95 - Page 72
stage, I think it was, was that right?
A. No, I think I was talking when I was an Operations
Manager and a notice came out about light bulbs, I think it
was talking about, just as an example of communication to
us, saying that we should not change light bulbs if there
was not anyone capable of doing that, or that they should
be changed by a contractor, I think it was, that we were
told, even if we had someone capable. I think at that time
we were implying that they should not do it.

Q. That was any electrical work, not just changing light
bulbs?
A. Yes, I think it was talking about -- by just electrical
work, specific electrical work and one of the examples was
light bulbs.

Q. So it was not all the electrical work then?
A. I was just trying to give an example. I do not know
the manual in detail.

Q. You do not remember?
A. I was trying to give you an example of communication
about electrical safety I think at the time.

Q. Right. Was it a company regulation that no electrical work
should be done by anyone who was not specifically trained
to do it?
A. I think it depends what you mean by "electrical work".
As long as people have taken the AEC course, that the work
specified on there, that it is OK for them to carry out
those tasks.

Q. But anyone who had not taken that AEC, they would not be
allowed to do any electrical work at all?
A. Right.

Q. I am sorry, I actually thought you said that -- was there
always someone available who had done the AEC course?
A. There would normally be someone in the store who had
done the AEC course, yes.

Q. There would always be?
A. Not always, but there is not much electrical work to be
done in a restaurant.

Q. Did it ever happen while you were there that there was not
somebody in the store who was qualified under the AEC?
A. Well, I was there and I was qualified when I was in
restaurants and, normally, the restaurant manager or
assistant manager would have been there. But there would
be occasions when there would be someone in the restaurant
-- there would be a shift in a restaurant where there was
someone who was not qualified to do electrical work.

Q. What would happen if something like a bun toaster broke
down?
A. Get the replacement bun toaster.

Q. There is a spare one kept in the store, is there?
A. Yes.
