Day 161 - 24 Jul 95 - Page 54
thought you might be when we spoke at two o'clock about
timing?

MR. MORRIS: Let me have a look. We are certainly aiming for
lunchtime tomorrow, to finish by then.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Please sit down, Miss Anteneh. Are
there any other matters? Some time during the day, I will
give my ruling on your application for leave to amend with
regard to Brazilian beef. What (if any) other matters are
there which we must discuss tomorrow?

MR. RAMPTON: Only this, my Lord, that we would like some
guidance from your Lordship how your Lordship would like to
start next term; what with, is what I mean; if witnesses,
what kind of witnesses. If not witnesses, then there are
some outstanding interlocutory things which the Defendants
have to deal with. Presumably, we will be ready for them
at the beginning of next term. It might be advisable to
spend the first two days of next term with interlocutories.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is what appeals to me most at the
moment, unless there is some witness who can only be
accommodated, for instance, on the 25th or 26th September,
because by then it may be that Ms. Steel and Mr. Morris
will be ready to make such applications as they wish to
make; and, that said, the sooner they are made the better.

MR. MORRIS: We would agree with that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will discuss that tomorrow and perhaps get
some idea of how much time will be involved.

What I suggest then -- because that should not take very
long -- we will break off now. For practical reasons --
not just, but including that I would like to have my ruling
in word processed form to give to you tomorrow -- what
I propose to do is sit at 11 o'clock tomorrow, which should
still give us time to finish Miss Anteneh, for me to give
the ruling and to discuss any other loose ends. So
whatever appears in the printed list, it will be 11 o'clock
in the morning.
