Day 192 - 27 Nov 95 - Page 38
paper.
A. One of those place mats.

Q. Did you write it down word for word, or did you summarise
it?
A. No. I wrote it down word for word.

Q. Word for word?
A. Yes.

Q. So, this is what you saw from what the management put up?
A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Was this on the same piece of paper as the
cartoon?
A. Yes. It was at the bottom of it.

MR. MORRIS: So, there were about five different drawings, were
there; each one had a fact with part of them; or one
drawing with it all underneath?
A. I think there was, like, maybe two facts per drawing,
because they were fairly large pieces of paper.

Q. So, fact number 1: "The average hourly wage of two major
unionised competitors in Ontario are significantly lower
than hours." Do you know of any -----
A. That is false, that statement, because there are
Wendy's and, I believe, Swiss Chalets that are organised by
unions in Ontario, that they make at least twice our wage.

Q. Lower down, if you look at number 3, it says: "The union
does not know the first thing about quick service
restaurants. They have no existing agreements with any of
our competitors." Is that -----
A. This particular union may not, but other unions do.

Q. Oh, I see. The second one: "The union seeks to replace
our flexible policies with their inflexible rules." Did
the union seek to impose flexible rules or replace
McDonald's rules with inflexible rules?
A. No.

Q. So that is not true, then?
A. That is not true.

Q. Then the last fact: "The union cannot guarantee job
security, or anything, for that matter." What is your
comment about that?
A. You have more job security with a union because, in
Ontario, the way the system works is, if you feel you have
been fired unjustly, you can go to the Labour Board and
have them work it out for you, but it takes about three
years, because it is so overpacked with people and
complaints. So, with a union, you can negotiate without
the Labour Board right away, if it is just a violation of a
contract or whatever. But, I mean, that is why I wanted
the union, was for job security, so that you cannot be
fired for unjust causes.

Q. That was the management's, one of the management's
