Day 184 - 06 Nov 95 - Page 32

       going to happen.

  Q. These things -- we have talked about wages. What about
something like dental treatment; do some workplaces in
Canada pay for people's dental treatment?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Yes. But McDonald's does not?
       A. It depends on the person. I mean -----

  Q. Some have agreements with their employers that they pay
       their dental treatment?
       A. They have a -- well, from what I understand, because
Travis is an Assistant Manager and this is what he is told
me; he has a plan, like, I do not know, some kind of health
plan with McDonald's where he only pays like $10 or $11 a
month, and McDonald's covers everything, all medical costs,
all dental, all eye cost, stuff like that.

  Q. That is something the union wanted to see for all staff?
       A. From what I understood, the union wanted to make all
the day staff, full-time staff, and since they had become
full-time staff they would definitely get, you know, the
pension and the dental treatment and everything like that.

  Q. Which is what managers get, is it?
       A. It is an option for the Managers, from what
       I understand.

  Q. They wanted to see it as a right for all crew members; that
       is what the union wanted?
       A. It would be a definite guarantee that they would get
       all of this, yes.

  Q. As a right. A wage increase, you would not have any
       problems with that, would you?
       A. I myself, I did not care. I mean, a wage increase of
course was a positive thing, but I did not care, because
I felt I was getting enough as, you know -- I mean, all
these things were bonuses. But I did not sign the card
       because of these bonuses.

  Q. The job security, what was that about?
       A. Sarah said that, you know, if something would happen --
like, when she first started out she said if we signed a
card we would have job security for sure for sure, but she
said if Cam found out there was a unionisation attempt and
we got fired, that the union would fight for our jobs back
because we had signed a card, but because we had not signed
a card and if we did not sign a card and Cam find out about
the unionisation attempt, then Cam would fire us, and then
the union would not be able to fight for our jobs back.

  Q. So job security means that the union would protect people's
       right to keep their jobs?
       A. I am sorry. Say that again.

  Q. Is that what job security?
       A. If we had signed a card and Cam fired us, that is
       what -----
