Day 130 - 26 May 95 - Page 28
A. No, I -----

Q. You were not told that Mr. Chapman vehemently insisted that
he wired the plug properly when he was questioned by
Mr. Shirkie?
A. I am sure that Robert Chapman wired it, what he saw was
properly, whatever standard it was at the time. As you
very rightly say, we do not know how he wired it as it was
at the accident, but I am sure whatever he did he was doing
it for the best reasons, to help out and to the best of his
ability.

Q. We are going to leave that subject -----
A. Could I finally say this, obviously Mr. Shirkie did
speak to Robert Chapman. Mr. Shirkie concluded, as he did,
that the wiring of the plug -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Leave it, please.
A. But I have sympathy with the guy, because I just
feel -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, you have made it quite clear you have
sympathy with Mr. Chapman, and so do I, especially if
someone publicly, after the Inquest, blamed him for what
happened.

MR. MORRIS: If we can move on, I think it is in the same volume
we had out before, it is in fact the Colchester injury
book, accident book.

MR. RAMPTON: 57M, my Lord.

MR. MORRIS: 57M, thank you.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If someone could be kind enough just to write
on the second page of my pink -- just in longhand will do
to save me the trouble -- the new documents which have been
put in.

MR. MORRIS: For some reason I have 961Z, is that the right
reference?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It has 961Z on the bottom but, in any event,
it is the first sheet, and then we go on 961A, B, C, and so
on.

MR. MORRIS: You said that about 100 injuries a year you would
expect to be recorded in the accident books in any
particular store; that would be about your average, yes?
A. If the crew managers were being diligent, and if they
are recording every little single burn or nick they got.

Q. No, what I am saying is, if you see an average accident
book around the country, you would expect about 100
entries?
A. The average would be about 100; some would have more
and some would have fewer.

Q. You would not know which if they recorded every single
incident?
