Day 275 - 08 Jul 96 - Page 43

  Q. Give the reference, if you have it?
       A. Sorry. In his first statement, paragraph 8, Mr. Carol
says that: "At 3.30 pm six people met outside the East
Finchley underground station and between then and 4 pm the
group rose to about 15 young people. Their ring leader
appeared to be Paul Gravit whose name and identity I knew
at that time, and Mr. Gravit was accompanied by Helen
Steel, whose identity was also known to me at that time."

I just wanted to say that I did not go there with
Mr. Gravit. The meeting place was at the underground
station and, in common with everybody else who got there
before the picket started, that was where I met up.
Mr. Gravit has given evidence about having brought the
leaflets to the picket. I did not bring any leaflets to
the picket. If you look at photograph 4 in tab 4 --

  Q. Yes, pause a moment?
       A. -- in pink 2 --

  Q. Yes?
       A. -- you can see that I am not carrying anything. The
man behind me is carrying a black dustbin liner. He is the
man who was in the cow suit. So presumably he is carrying
the cow suit in the dustbin liner, but I am not carrying
       anything.

  Q. It looks as if Mr. Gravit is carrying a bag?
       A. Yes. Can I just say that I did ask for the negatives
to be brought in for these photographs. It appears to me
that they are not actually in order because, for example,
No. 2 is five people down at the station and I think I am
       one of them.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not think there has been any suggestion
that they are necessarily in order.

  MR. RAMPTON: No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That may be the suggestion, but it has not
been said that it is so?
       A. No. Well, I was just going to say that it appears that
there was a group of us met outside the tube station and
then, if you look at photograph 3 and photograph 5, they
actually seem to be across the road from McDonald's head
office. It appears to be Mr. Gravit arriving with these
two people, one of whom was the other person who got in the
cow suit. But it is just that they appear in 3 and 5,
which are either side of us actually walking up the road
towards the head office. So, for anyone who did not know
the kind of area, they might not realise that.

  Q. Yes?
       A. Or might not realise that. Yes. To go through the
photos in tab 5, actually I am in photograph 2 holding the
end of the banner. In photograph 7 there is a woman in the
middle of the group of people and she is holding orange A5
"What is wrong with McDonald's?" leaflets. You can see
because the graphic takes up half the page. You can see
