Day 089 - 15 Feb 95 - Page 08
Q. Were they then replaced or was the group just two
shorthanded?
A. No, in fact, I replaced Mr. Haxby.

Q. Was Mrs. Harrison replaced?
A. I am not sure about that.

Q. Can you tell us, please, a little bit about the members of
the working group? Mr. Staines is said to have been the
Chairman, yes?
A. He was the Chairman.

Q. What is his background?
A. His background is that he is a pig farmer and he also
produces animal feeding equipment and housing equipment as
well.

Q. Then can I go back up the page, Mr. Shields next; what is
his background?
A. He is the Secretary, part of the permanent Secretariat
of the Young Farmers of Great Britain.

Q. You we know about. What about Mr. Hollands?
A. Clive Hollands is well-known for his work in animal
welfare. He was chairman of the St. Andrews Animal Welfare
Fund based in Scotland.

Q. Is he a Scot?
A. He is a Scot by living there but not by background,
I think.

Q. Mr. Berry?
A. Glen Berry works for the Somerset County Council as,
I think, a Trading Standards Officer.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is Mr. Hollands a farmer or in farming?
A. No, he has a great interest in animal welfare but he is
not a farmer.

MR. RAMPTON: Mr. Berry, presumably, as he is employed by the
local authority -- I do not know, he might have a farm,
does he?
A. I do not think so.

Q. Then what about Mr. Haxby who was replaced by you, what did
he do?
A. He is a veterinary surgeon who has worked for many
years in the poultry industry and worked in private
practice in Nottinghamshire.

Q. Mrs. Harrison, do you know anything about her?
A. Ruth Harrison is well-known for her work in animal
welfare. I have not met her personally.

Q. I see. We can do our own arithmetics and I will not
trouble you with that now, Dr. Pattison. Can I ask you
this: First of all, did you replace Mr. Haxby immediately
he resigned or retired in June 1991?
A. Yes, that is correct.
