Q. If they had done it would not concern you?
A. No.

Q. But the answer is you do not know?
A. Absolutely correct, my Lord.

MR. MORRIS: That has been the same, has it, ever since you have
been involved in 1978?
A. Yes.

Q. In some parts of Europe soya feed is a fairly standard
component, yes, of the concentrate that is used?
A. I think I said a few moments ago I do not know the
formulations of all the concentrates.

Q. No, I am saying soya feed is used, it is not something
that -- what I am saying is in the industry as a whole,
never mind McDonald's, in Europe which you know fairly
well, yes, it is not unusual for soya feed to be part of a
concentrate, is it, that is added for protein?
A. I cannot answer you honestly yes or no on that because
I know that formulations are based on economic factors, and
I know that soya is expensive. I would think that most
farmers would go for a mixture which did not include soya.
That is my honest answer to you.

Q. Are you aware, though, that there are enormous quantities
of soya used in Europe for cattle feed?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I know of no evidence in this court to
suggest there is any truth in that suggestion whatsoever.

MR. MORRIS: That is why I asked him the question.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Maybe. Did you know?
A. No, sir, I do not know.

MR. MORRIS: You do not know.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think you have gone as far with soya with
Mr. Walker as you can. He has said he does not know
several times. If, for instance, what you have just put is
right, it ought not to be too difficult establish.

MR. MORRIS: We have a statement from a McDonald's witness on
the subject.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, it ought not to be too difficult
to establish. You were better off with Mr. Oakley's
evidence before you started asking Mr. Walker about soya.
He having said that he disagrees with Mr. Oakley's
evidence, which you might have been reasonably happy with
bearing in mind you have got some of your own, and then
having modified his answer to not agreeing with the
statement to saying he does not know, quite frankly, I
would have thought you would do far and away the best just
to leave it there.

MR. MORRIS: I am just a bit surprised. Is not the feed that
