Day 204 - 15 Jan 96 - Page 13

  Q. Then the clock cards were put up in the loft?
       A. They were stored away, but I do not know actually where
they were stored. I was not really involved in the storing
of clock cards, to be honest.

  Q. You said in your statement: "I do not, however, believe
that Ray Coton can have been docking hours as regularly or
as systematically or for as long as he asserted in
evidence. If he had been, I am certain that crew members
would have become aware of it and complained strongly about
it. As far as I am aware, they did not do so."

So, that is your basis for saying that you do not believe
that he could have been doing it as regularly or
systematically or for as long as he asserted in evidence?
       A. Also, at the time, Ray Coton set up a system where
every Monday, in the afternoon, I think it was his First
Assistant Manager at the time, Danny Izadili, did a payroll
surgery (as we called it), and anyone who had any problems
actually went to Danny; and I remember Danny commenting
that, you know, it was a bit of a waste of time because no
one ever used to come and see him.

  Q. No one at all?
       A. You get occasional people, but -----

  Q. Did you ever go to one?
       A. No; no reason to.

  Q. So do you know what happened at payroll surgeries?
       A. Yes. People brought the payslips and tried to resolve
what the problem was with the payslip; a pay rise not being
put on correctly, a bonus that was not received.

  Q. They would get the clock cards down and spend ages going
       through them
       A. Yes, they did, yes. That was the way you had to
       clarify the whole system.

  Q. But, at any rate, you say not many people ever went there?
       A. No. I mean, I also worked -- you must appreciate that
I was quite heavily involved with the crew on the floor
and, you know, I was quite friendly with them all, and I am
sure if there was a problem of any sort they would have
said something to me. I was not unapproachable. I was
       very approachable.

  Q. If it went on for three years, you would consider that a
       long time. Would you not?
       A. What went on for three years, sorry?

  Q. The docking of crew pay, the docking of crew hours?
       A. If it went on for three years?

  Q. Yes. You would consider that a long time?
       A. Three years is a long time, yes.

  Q. You said in paragraph (11) of your statement that -----
