Day 274 - 04 Jul 96 - Page 36
reference to McDonald's, Dave said that the first fayre had
been an anti-McDonald's day, this is about 6 years ago and
every year since then they had had an annual
anti-McDonald's day. John explained that this was now
changing and the fayre was to be a London Greenpeace fayre
outlining all their areas of interest and their vision for
the future. He said though that the anti-McDonald's
campaign would still continue."

Can I pause there. The anti-McDonald's campaign was to
continue, was it not, though the focus was to be softened?
That is right?
A. Well, the anti-McDonald's campaign continued in the
sense that local groups all round the country seemed to be
continuing it. I mean, I know that Hackney and Islington
Animal Rights Campaign continued it quite a while after.

Q. What about 16th October?
A. Anti-McDonald's day? I believe yes.

Q. Yes. And John --
A. Just the one day.

Q. And John was not one of the infiltrators, as Mr. Morris is
pleased to call him, was he?
A. If that is the John that I know, then no, not as far as
I know.

Q. Dave was not either, was he?
A. No.

Q. And then the sentence finishes -- well, I will read it
again.

"He said though that the anti-McDonald's campaign would
still continue as 'everyone hates McDonald's'."

Mr. Gravett, I think it was, or maybe one of the
defendants, tried to suggest that that might mean everyone
in the world, but it plainly does not, does it, it means
everyone in the group? Do you agree?
A. No. I mean, I cannot actually remember him saying
this, though from reading it now --

Q. No, no, I do not expect you to remember him saying it, but
it is true, is it not, everyone in the group did hate
McDonald's, did they not?
A. No, it is not true that everyone hated McDonald's. I
think most people who had read the leaflet understood that
some McDonald's practices were - I don't know how you
describe them - but may be distasteful. I would find them
distasteful. But it sounds like a flippant comment that
John made. I think it might have been said with a smile,
but I do not think -- I do not remember him saying it.

Q. You have read the leaflet recently, have you not, I expect?
A. Not recently. I mean, I have read it many times in the
past.

Q. Yes. Can I ask you to put that file away then please and
