Day 010 - 11 Jul 94 - Page 68

1 our response to, and it is actually my response since
I wrote this article, to the McDonald's -- excuse me -- to
2 the decision to stop using CFCs and replace them with
HCFCs. I call your attention to the sixth, seventh page
3 of the exhibit that starts: "Polystyrene fact sheet".

4 MR. MORRIS: That is No. 5.

5 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, thank you.

6 MR. MORRIS: The sixth page. Can you say what is on the actual
              page?
     7
MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, leave Mr. Rampton to do it.
     8
MR. RAMPTON: Can you tell us what the document is?
9 A. It is an article that was published by the journal
that I wrote for, that was published by the organisation
10 that I work for, which is the Citizens Clearinghouse for
Hazardous Waste, the organisation that was involved in
    11 co-ordinating McToxics campaign.

12 Q. Would it look like that?
              A. That is a page of it, but it actually has a box on the
13 top right-hand corner that says: "Styrofoam is not
              clean".
    14
         Q. Yes. "Is styrofoam clean?" So you want the answer to
    15 that question?
              A. No.
    16
         Q. Is that what I have to find?
17 A. No, that is what the page in the top centre column
              says.
    18
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Hold it up so I can see.
    19
MR. RAMPTON: It has a drawing on the left-hand side?
20 A. That is right. There is a cartoon.

21 MR. MORRIS: It is about five from the back; it is the fifth
              one from the back.
    22
MR. RAMPTON: I have it. I am not sure I can read it. Anyway,
23 what do you want to say about this?
              A. The third column from on the right-hand side of the
24 page underneath the box, I would like to refer that and on
to the second page. OK. Essentially, what it is saying
25 is what I have already said. It discusses the Washington
Post article. It identifies -- incidentally, the author
26 of that article as the former, that is, Curtis Moore, the
McTruth article, former Senate Environmental Committee
27 staff. And, in essence, it reviews the article and the
              issue of McTruth.
    28
         Q. I understand that.
29 A. Then it refers to our questions that we placed before
these environmental organisations as to why they engaged
30 in this after we became aware of this article, all right.
              So that -----
