Day 111 - 30 Mar 95 - Page 61
a quarter past or 20 past four. I do not mind going on
until half past four, but that is the absolute deadline.

MR. RAMPTON: If could I just make some enquiries for this
evening?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am not going to be too pernickety about
re-examination, raising a matter which does not technically
come out of cross-examination. If you get further papers,
I suggest you leave the dismissal letter where it is at the
moment because, after all, Ms. Hovi's evidence, whatever
was in the letter, was not the reason given when she was
dismissed.

MR. RAMPTON: Except I do not think I have a copy of it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I suggest, so far as that is concerned, you
wait to see what is coming out of Mr. Rampton's
cross-examination. If you get more papers overnight and
want to re-open your examination-in-chief on the basis of
those having copied them for Mr. Rampton, the witness and
for me, I will certainly consider that, just as
I considered letting Mr. Rampton re-open
examination-in-chief, do you remember, for instance, with
Dr. Gomez Gonzales when he got further information?

MS. STEEL: Can I ask, if Mr. Rampton starts tonight, if the
document does turn up tomorrow morning, will it still be
all right to talk to Ms. Hovi about them?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have no objection.

MR. RAMPTON: None at all, but I would like a copy of that
letter. I do not know how long Mr. Morris has had it, but
I would want that before I come to cross-examine about the
dismissal. I would like that before we go away this
afternoon.

MR. MORRIS: We can do it straightaway.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Riley, could you make half a dozen
copies? Give two of the copies to Mrs. Brinley-Codd, one
for Mr. Rampton and give the rest of the copies back to
Mr. Morris. I will see it as and when someone asks me to
look at it. If you do that now, Mr. Rampton and Mr. Morris
can take copies away.

Cross-examined by MR. RAMPTON, Q.C.

Q. Is it Mrs. Hovi?
A. It is, yes.

Q. Are there some little Hovi's?
A. Yes, there are two of them. They are Short's
actually. My husband's name is "Short".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How do you like to be addressed?
A. Mrs. Hovi is just fine.

MR. RAMPTON: Your husband is English and not Finnish?
