Day 275 - 08 Jul 96 - Page 26

  Q. Are you going to refer to the notes?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Can I just say I still have not sorted out my
numbering system, so if we refer to dates and the name of
       the witness.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest is, give a date and an inquiry
agent first and then page number if you have got it?
       A. Yes. If I just make a general point about the notes,
which is that in general Anthony's notes -- sorry,
Mr. Pocklington's notes seem to be fairly accurate although
there are things that are wrong with them. But as a point
-- they are accurate in what they report, however, they
are misleading in the sense that most of the meetings would
be a couple of hours long and mainly about other subjects
than McDonald's. However, obviously, because they were
only interested in McDonald's they are only reporting on
McDonald's, and the other subjects in the main have not
       been recorded.

In term of Mr. Claire's notes, there is -- well, I
just think they are completely inaccurate in a lot of
respects. In terms of Mr. Bishop's notes, there are
inaccuracies in them and in particular it seems to me that
he has gone into the group looking at the notes with a
specific kind of mind set, perhaps because he used to be in
the army and he is used to people giving orders and, you
know, being in a hierarchical structure and he is looking
for that in the group even though it does not exist,
because the group was run on the principal of everybody
being able to be equally involved, nobody giving orders,
nobody taking orders, and people getting as involved as
       they wanted to.

Miss Tiller's notes are, in the main, fairly accurate,
except that she has quite obviously expressed things in
her, you know, in her words rather than in words that were
used by people at the meetings. I think that is probably
true for all of the agents, that they have not really used
the exact words that people would have said at the
       meetings.

The first one that I want to refer to is
Mr. Pocklington. Yes, the first one is Mr. Pocklington, at
the London Greenpeace fayre, 21st October 1989 -- sorry,
the anti-McDonald's fayre. And just to confirm that, on
page 15 of the notes, it is my recollection also that the
organisation of the London Greenpeace fayre, of the
anti-McDonald's fayre, was basically Paul Gravett with help
from Charlie Brook doing the entertainments, and that it
was those two that organised it all. Though, obviously,
other people came along on the day to help out with
       specific tasks.

The second point is the notes of Mr. Pocklington of
       2nd November 1989.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, what was the date again?
       A. 2nd November.
