Day 007 - 06 Jul 94 - Page 77

1 MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not think he was putting that.

2 MR. RAMPTON: No, very well.

3 MR. MORRIS: Unless I otherwise say so I will assume everyone
is acting in good faith. Just briefly, when you mentioned
4 McDonald's had in Latin America I believe it was, South
America, had encouraged all its subsidiaries or sections
5 or whatever, branches to go back to paper wraps, yes, do
you remember, on the chart we heard of changes in
6 packaging and blowing agents used? You remember that you
pointed out that finally the whole of South America had
7 reverted to paper packaging, yes?
              A. There are charts that are there that show that the
8 Latin market did move to wraps. I do not know we
encouraged them to move to wraps specifically, but we
9 certainly did encourage them to phase out of CFCs and
              subsequently HCFCs.
    10
         Q. You do not know what paper packaging McDonald's used when
11 they started in South American countries?
              A. It is not my responsibility.
    12
         Q. Would you know what the traditional packaging would be for
13 take-aways in South American countries?
              A. I have not been to South America.
    14
         Q. If we go to the area of trees, McDonald's and trees?
    15 A. Yes.

16 Q. That is dealt with in your second statement I believe?
              A. OK.
    17
         Q. I will not go into the figures; I am sure nobody wants to
18 go through all that again.

    19 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

20 MR. MORRIS: But this figure in point 7 on page 30, the figure
of consumption of McDonald's paper in 1992 -- sorry, is it
    21 your first statement?

22 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, it is. It is tab 3.

23 MR. MORRIS: Have you got that?
              A. I am not sure.
    24
         Q. It is page 30. It is your first statement?
    25 A. OK.

    26 Q. It is point 7?
              A. OK.
    27
         Q. This figure of 181,000 tonnes was reduced because of the
    28 recycle content in 1992?
              A. Correct.
    29
         Q. Down to 92,000 tonnes, yes?
    30 A. Yes.
