Day 062 - 06 Dec 94 - Page 14
A. This was made by David Kouchoukos who was my
predecessor at that time, and it was made for the purpose
of informing the various countries, the various McDonald's
organisations in the various countries, of the composition
of the raw material of their products.

Q. What is the top colour recycled paperboard material used
for?
A. It is used for folding cartons -- and folding cartons
are fry cartons, McNuggets boxes -- and it is used for clam
shells such as are used in Germany.

Q. So, looking at the bottom of the page, you see underneath
the tables it mentions a number of different uses -- just
look at them, if you would not mind -- giving different
weights or densities?
A. Yes.

Q. Do you think that is a complete list of its various uses
or, at any rate, in January 1991?
A. In January 1991 it was certainly complete.

Q. Has it been extended since then, do you think?
A. I could not be for 100 per cent sure.

Q. Sorry?
A. I could not be for 100 per cent certain about that.
I have a colleague who has been more involved with source
reduction where we have been looking at different
grammages, and it may have been that we have gone below 250
but I am not sure about that. By the way, the abbreviation
"GSM" stands for grammes per square metre. I do not know
if you were aware of that?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I think you, Mr. Rampton, were asking
whether the kinds of packets were complete.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, that is what I meant.

THE WITNESS: Sorry, the?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Rampton was asking you, not whether the
categories of grammes per square metre were the same now
(which appeared to be what your answer was directed at),
but whether the cartons which are listed in the last few
lines are all the cartons for which top colour recycled
paperboard material was used then and is still used now?
A. Yes, it is.

MR. RAMPTON: So, for example, the paperboard clam shells used
in Austria, Germany and Sweden are made of this material,
are they?
A. They are made of top colour.

Q. They are?
A. Yes.

Q. At the bottom we see -- I will come to the topic in a
minute -- two different ways of looking at the recycled
proportion in the board. It depends to an extent on how
