Day 277 - 10 Jul 96 - Page 67
picture of Michelle Hooker on the left-hand side?
A. Yes.

Q. Can I just ask you about Michelle Hooker? You assert, as
did Miss Laporte, at least I understand you to have said,
she had a relationship with Charlie Brook?
A. That is right.

Q. That is the point of making that assertion?
A. Well, personally I think it disgusting that someone can
infiltrate a group, then flirt with people with the
intention of having a relationship with them, presumably so
they can get information out of them.

Q. That is all it is, it is not part of your defence of
consent then?
A. Well, it does show the extent to which she was getting
involved with the group.

Q. When did that relationship start?
A. I think in the autumn of 1990.

Q. By which time, according to you, all copies of the
fact sheet had long gone out of print; is that right?
A. They would have been out of print, although there would
have been reference copies around.

Q. So Michelle Hooker's presence in the group from the end of
August 1990 had nothing whatever to do with any consent by
McDonald's to distribution of the leaflet, did it?
A. It depends on what your argument is, Mr. Rampton, and I
believe that you are arguing that subsequent involvement in
the anti-McDonald's campaign means that you are responsible
for the prior distribution of the fact sheet and, if that
is the case, then that is applicable to Michelle Hooker.

Q. Ms. Steel, are you seriously saying, have I got it right,
that this picket on 16th October 1990 at which the leaflet
complained of was not distributed, it was never said that
it was, which we have got maybe 20, 25 people and
certainly, so far at least, a number of what I call the old
hands, this picket was prompted by the infiltration of the
group by Miss Hooker?
A. I did not say it was prompted by her. But I do
remember her being incredibly enthusiastic about it.

Q. I do not understand what significance that has?
A. Well, it was relevant, that is all.

Q. I see.
A. She was far more enthusiastic about it than I was.

Q. Photograph 16, or 13 first of all, is a figure that I am
not sure that I recognise. Standing to the right of
Mr. Gravett, who is the one in the green, and I think Miss
Hooker again?
A. Can you just say which one you are on again, sorry?

Q. 13?
A. Yes.
