Day 272 - 02 Jul 96 - Page 55

Q. "We initiated this campaign in 1984 and it has since
mushroomed into a truly worldwide movement making
diverse -- against the destruction", etc. etc. etc.

Ending with "arthritis". Do you see it in the middle of
that paragraph?
A. Yes.

Q. And then this:

"For details, see the enclosed copy of our fact sheet
What's Wrong With McDonald's."

Do you see that?
A. Yes.

Q. Am I right that with this press release in August 1989
there were being distributed copies of the leaflet
complained of in this action?
A. Yes, it looks that way.

Q. Yes?
A. I cannot remember.

Q. As part of the group's anti-McDonald's campaign at that
time?
A. This would not have gone out to many, you know,
people.

Q. What does it mean "press release"?
A. Well, it would have gone to the press.

Q. Exactly.
A. Yes.

Q. And where do things go if you succeed in interesting the
press? Things that are in a press release, where do you
expect them to get to?
A. Publications, the media.

Q. Yes. What you wanted to do with this press release - you,
London Greenpeace, I mean, I do not mean you, Paul
Gravett, although no doubt I can include you in that - what
London Greenpeace wanted to achieve with this press release
is that the media should republish what was in the London
Greenpeace anti-McDonald's fact sheet. That is right, is
it not?
A. I do not think it was that so much. I think what we
wanted the media to do would be to publicise the day of
action. I mean, it is headed "Monday October 16th World
Day of Action Against McDonald's", not London Greenpeace
What's Wrong with McDonald's fact sheet, is it not?

Q. Sorry? I agree, but it says, does it not, for details of
all the allegations which you have been making since 1984,
for details the reader is invited to see the enclosed copy
of the fact sheet. That is right, is it not?
A. Yes.
