Day 184 - 06 Nov 95 - Page 53

Apart from the ones we have mentioned, were there any other
cons which you believed at that time could occur as a
result of having a union branch at the store, apart from
the ones we have mentioned, such as losing paid breaks or
half price food? I cannot think of -- is there any other?
A. Are you talking about benefits we could lose at
McDonald's?

Q. The cons.
A. The cons of having a union?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What does that mean?

MR. MORRIS: I do not know -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The against or the deceits -- because it
could mean either, could it not?

MR. MORRIS: The things that might get worse because of -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Factors against?
A. The only things -----

MR. MORRIS: Things that would get worse -----
A. We never said things would get worse. We just said
that, you know, some things you might not be aware of is
that you have to negotiate. They said, you know, it does
not happen often, but people with unions, they go on
strike; and we did not say McDonald's is definitely going
to go on strike; we said it could happen, and that like --
I cannot remember any more. I mean, we were just letting
them know.

Q. Jodie Morris was one of the intervenors, was she not?
A. She wrote a letter.

Q. She wrote a letter, and her parents were involved in
advising her to pull out of the union, were they not?
A. Yes, as far as I know, yes. I mean, they tried to help
us out, and Mr. Morris went to the first day of court, from
what I understand, in Toronto. Then he tried to inform the
other parents about what was going on.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Shall we take the five minute break there,
Mr. Morris?

MR. MORRIS: Can I deal with one thing in the letter from
Jodie Morris? The only problem is, I do not know what page
number it is, because they are in a different order from
what has been given to the court.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think it is fairly near the top.

MR. MORRIS: It is a typewritten one.

THE WITNESS: In the pink, it is 1705. In the pink book, it is
1705.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is helpful.
