Day 080 - 30 Jan 95 - Page 30
year, and that is normally plastic, it is not metal.
I have got access to that figure, my Lord, and I can find
it out.

MR. MORRIS: So you say that most of those 100 to 150 are likely
to be plastic fragments or something. Will there also be
what you might call animal origin, i.e. insects or worms,
or whatever? Would that include that?
A. No, the only thing I have ever known connected with an
animal is a piece of hair. You know, a follicle, one hair,
which has been identified as bovine hair and that is the
only one I ever remember.

Q. So when over a period of a year or years you see there is
some kind of pattern, do you identify what may be the
potential problems were to try to alleviate the problem?
A. The must common one is a grill scraping.

Q. From the shop?
A. From the restaurant.

Q. What about the things that originate at McKey's?
A. The most common would be plastic because it is very
difficult to identify plastic, but in terms of the millions
of burgers we make, the complaints is 0 to the power of
100. Statistically, it is an incredibly high record.

Q. But do you keep the records that you get of your findings
so that you can try to identify a pattern over a period of
years in case there is some kind of pattern?
A. Yes, we keep the records.

Q. I think I asked you before but one final question I would
like to ask before lunch is when Mr. North went round with
you were any conditions staged for his benefit?
A. Conditions staged? No, none whatsoever.

Q. He saw a typical -----
A. He saw a typical working day.

Q. At all points of the plant?
A. Yes.

Q. Did he see the whole process from beginning to end?
A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He saw, you said, whatever he asked to see?
A. Yes, but we started, sir, on the loading dock, went
through the chillers into the grinding area, down the
production lines -----

Q. You say he saw the whole process?
A. Into the laboratories.

MR. MORRIS: What he saw would have been typical?
A. Absolutely.

MS. STEEL: How much pork is used by McKey's for McDonald's,
including pork or bacon?
