Day 238 - 22 Apr 96 - Page 06

MR. MORRIS: Well, he cannot come in the week of 20th May. I
asked specifically about that and it did not look
       particularly hopeful.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Or whether he could -----

MR. MORRIS: I did not go into great detail. He was saying
about being very busy following the 19th and he could not
come on the 20th or the 25th.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, give it a bit more thought, bearing in
mind the discussion we have just had.

MR. MORRIS: I think he is now getting a flight which will take
him back on the evening of the 19th.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You see, if what you want to do is just ask
him to aver his letters then, for all I know, when
Mr. Rampton has had time to think about it, he will say,
"We should be able to complete him on that day even if he
starts at 12 noon", or something of that kind. But if you
are going to, with my leave, ask him a number of broader
questions, possibly related to the meaning of the relevant
part of the leaflet, as it is now defined, then that is a
different kettle of fish, so I would like you to give a bit
       of thought to that.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. Can we call our witness?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

                   FIONA ELIZABETH WATSON, Sworn
                     EXAMINED BY THE DEFENDANTS

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you want to sit down at any stage, pull
the chair forward. It is entirely up to you.
       A. Thank you.

MR. MORRIS: Can you give the Court your full name?
       A. Fiona Elizabeth Watson.

  Q. And you are currently the Campaigns Co-ordinator for
       Survival International?
       A. I am.

  Q. And you live in London?
       A. Yes.

  Q. I think, if you can get a copy of your statement out.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There is a pale blue volume on the very top,
Miss Watson, with an "1C" on it. There is a divider L,
well towards the back, and then within L there should be a
       divider 8.

MR. RAMPTON: I am so sorry, my Lord, I think it is Y or at
least that is what Mrs. Brinley-Codd says.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you have that? Can someone help Miss
