Day 197 - 07 Dec 95 - Page 75

was a very good question, was it not, Mr. Coton?
     A. Well, with such things as a shake machine, I am tied
by the engineers we have to deal with it. It was a
problem, as you can see from the reviews, it stretched on
for a long period of time.

Q. In fact, the position is this, is it not, Mr. Coton --
I will put it to you straight -- Mr. Davies knew knowing
whatever about this watering down that was going on. He
noticed the poor quality of the drinks, the thick shakes,
the weak coffee, and drew it to your attention. You
said: "Oh, it is the coffee machine", "Oh, it is the
shake machine", and he accepted your answers but did ask
the question on page 59 here eventually: "Why did it take
     so long?"
     A. Absolutely untrue. I stand by everything I have
     I have said before.

Q. Did you used to cut the ketchup and the mustard with
     pickle juice?
     A. No, I have never done that. We give a small shot but
not actually water or thicken it down.

Q. Did you keep good records of the food waste, the crew
meals and the promotion food which was, as it were, not
     sold ---
     A. Not always, no.

Q. -- (inaudible) money for it?
     A. Not always, no.

Q. When you came to do the food costs figures for the month
you would, as it were, just take a stab at that figure,
     would you not?
     A. Occasionally, yes.

Q. Mr. Harney -- you have read his statement -- what
Mr. Harney said about that is right, is it not?
     A. It certain context it is right, but not the whole
statement he has actually put there. Parts of it are
     right, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Rampton, do you want to break off
     there?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am sorry if you are losing money as you
come back each day, Mr. Coton, but I would like you to
return in the morning. I know you were here very early
this morning. I would like you to do the same tomorrow.
If you can prepare yourself to do some reading and give me
