Day 205 - 17 Jan 96 - Page 49

MR. RAMPTON: That is not in my version, either.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So there is no confusion, I can only say that
I would be grateful if I and the Defendants could have a
copy of tab 1 which has the complete paragraph C and the
       insertion of that second amendment.

  MR. RAMPTON: Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I would like to do now -- and it may be
the last thing we can deal with this afternoon -- is the
question of leave for any of the other witnesses whose
statements have been served, some of whom appear either by
name or description in the schedule.

MR. MORRIS: There are a few bits and pieces just to raise.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: I was not sure what happened to the Avo Parcin,
       Furazolidone pleadings.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Rampton said he would like to deal with
that on Monday as well. He just wants time to think about
       it.

MR. MORRIS: OK. There is just a couple of things, before Helen
brings something up about Mr. Fairgrieve. The Plaintiffs
indicated they were going to get a substantial map of
Costa Rica. I do not know if they have been able to do
that, but obviously it would be helpful if we all worked
from the same document. I do not know if they have?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, it is likely that by the time my
Costa Rican witnesses come to give evidence in the
beginning of March, we will have found a large size map of
Costa Rica. If the Defendants have one, we would like to
have it, but we have not got one ourselves at the moment.

My Lord, I have a couple of things I need to raise as well
       in due course.

MR. MORRIS: There was one matter I wanted to bring up. It is a
little bit similar to the earlier point we made about
torture, but does not go into such a fundamental thing
about meaning. It was the matter, you may remember, when
our witness was accused of lying and we said that that is
not the proper thing to do from counsel, as we understood,
unless all the matters were going to be put to the
       witness.

If I can just refer the court to what Mr. Rampton said on
day 79 -- I will just get the date; Friday, 27th January --
when we challenged Mr. Walker, and, after some very
substantial cross-examination, we followed up the challenge
to him, and we believe we were vindicated as a result.
But, in any case, Mr. Rampton said on page 67 of the
transcript for that day, on line 21: "My Lord, in my
respectful submission, he must either put to Mr. Walker a
