Day 261 - 12 Jun 96 - Page 41
Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace International. It
appeared that many of these letters had actually been
intended for Greenpeace International and had simply been
posted to the wrong address. In many of the replies, a
copy of the leaflet 'What's is wrong with McDonald's' was
included."

Do you remember, during your time within the group, any
other leaflet than the one we have just been looking at,
entitled "What's is wrong with McDonald's"?
A. Again, it is a vague recollection, but I believe there
was a shorter leaflet as well, yes.

Q. Do you remember on this occasion whether you also included
-- you have already told us that you and the others were
putting the longer leaflet into the envelopes, in some
cases at least -- do you remember whether sometimes you
might have put the shorter leaflet in as well?
A. It is possible. I do not remember specifically.

Q. Or -----
A. It is possible. I do not remember specifically.

Q. Then you have written: "There were some inquiries
specifically referring to McDonald's and asking for
information on a subject or saying that they had seen the
leaflet and wanted further information on a subject. Those
simply wanting information were sent the above named
leaflet." Do you mean the leaflet "What's is wrong with
McDonald's"?
A. Yes, I do.

Q. I do not think I have any further questions to ask in
chief. Yes, I have one further question. During your time
with the group (which was a longish time, some might think)
did you form any impression of the way the group was
composed? Let me make that a little bit clearer. Were
there people who came regularly and people who came only
occasionally?
A. There were, yes, certainly.

Q. First question: who, in your recollection, were what
I might call the regulars?
A. Paul Gravett, Helen Steel, Dave Morris, Jane Laporte,
Andrew Clarke. They are the ones that stick most
prominently in my mind.

Q. Are other people from time to time?
A. Yes. There were some others, whose names I do not
recollect, who were there more frequently. But, certainly,
those people are the ones who I recollect the most.

Q. Secondly -- if this is not, perhaps, an unnecessary
question; it may now be -- who were people, the people that
you remember who, if I may put it like this, as it were,
drove the activities of the group?

MS. STEEL: He should have asked first whether there was
anybody. It is a leading question, really.
