Q. -- when there was a bit of a stir at the North London
Poly. Was that around this time or not, can you remember?
A. I do not know, sir.

Q. There may have been more than one stir at the North London
Poly, but there was one which attracted a lot of attention
in the media at one time. Can you remember whether that
was around this time?
A. No, I cannot, sir.

Q. I cannot remember the particular subject matter of it now.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. There was an alleged fascist lecturer -- oh,
student, Patrick, or self-declared fascist student -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Did the North London Poly have a reputation
for radical politics at that time?
A. Not that I was aware of.

Q. That was not a feature in your thinking?
A. No.

MR. MORRIS: These leaflets which you saw in a pile that were
left in pile for the crew to pick up during their break, as
you said in your statement, did somebody say to you:
"I think you should go in the crew room and there are some
leaflets in there"?
A. No, because that morning I had an inspection from my
Area Supervisor, and we had spent the previous night
cleaning every single room out, getting everything ready to
have a good visit. So, as soon as I saw anything or any
environment/index.html">litter or anything, I would have thrown it away.

Q. So this insignificant incident starts developing a bit
now. The Area Supervisor, was that a planned visit or was
it an unannounced visit?
A. Planned -- it was to do my audits.

Q. Who was it, the Area Supervisor?
A. Peter Tassell.

Q. Peter Tassell. Everyone would know that this Supervisor
was coming?
A. No, normally it would be myself and maybe one -- the
night shift Manager from the previous night. So I would
give him a list of things to get cleaned up and things to
sort out.

Q. Doing an audit?
A. Yes.

Q. It was, what, is it a three month audit or an annual
audit?
A. No, in those days it was a monthly audit where you
would have a cleanliness report, like a quality report,
etc. etc.

Q. It is quite important, is it not?
A. Very important.
