Day 059 - 01 Dec 94 - Page 78

MS. STEEL: I do not think whether they are.

MR. RAMPTON: No, they are not.

THE WITNESS: Maybe Mr. Van Erp can answer you when he comes in.
I do not know what happens to the recycled material.
I assume it is used in the Lin Pac plant but to what form,
       I do not know.

  Q. You have not been worried enough to find out?
       A. I was not worried at all.

  Q. They could be just throwing it away, for all you know?
       A. I do not -- I would not assume -- I would not think
they were otherwise the project would not be viable and
       they say it is.

MR. MORRIS: We have just nearly finished for today. In
Germany, presumably, they have polystyrene recycling
facilities. Do you use polystyrene in Germany?
       A. No, we do not and, no, they do not have -- you are
wrong to presume they have recycling facilities, they do
       not.

  Q. No plants in Germany?
       A. No plants.

  Q. You said that it was Europe's first post-consumer recycling
plant in Bollington. Are there any industrial polystyrene
       recycling plants in Europe?
       A. Not that I know of.

  Q. Are you sure that there are not or you just do not know?
       A. I am saying not that I know of. That is pretty clear.
I do not know of any.

  Q. You do not know of any, but you do not know that there are
not any? What I am saying is, you say it is Europe's first
post-consumer polystyrene recycling plant, you are
       absolutely sure of that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. But you are not sure that there may be some industrial
       polystyrene recycling plants?
       A. What do you mean by "industrial"?

  Q. I mean there are is a lot of polystyrene used that is not
through recycling bins in fast-food restaurants?
       A. That has not become packaging waste, is that what you
       are saying?

  Q. That has become packaging waste because of its use in
       industry or whatever?
       A. The only recycling I know of in Europe that takes place
from an industrial point of view is waste that is generated
in the factory itself. That gets recycled. But waste that
gets generated in a restaurant environment or any other
environment, I do not know of any other plant that would
       recycle that waste.
