Day 203 - 12 Jan 96 - Page 43

  Q. When I first asked you how long the notes of rap sessions
were kept, you said you understand that they were kept
until the subsequent rap session. Why do you say that you
       understand?
       A. Because I asked Human Resources in Birmingham if they
would have any record of any rap sessions in relation to
the particular one conducted, which I remember conducting
in Colchester; and, basically, they said they would not
       have it.

  Q. So it was Human Resources in Birmingham that said to you
they have only got them from previous rap sessions?
       A. Yes, yes.

  Q. Sorry -----
       A. Something along those lines, Ms. Steel.

  Q. When you were Supervisor, you did not tell the Managers how
long to keep their rap session notes for?
       A. I think on the Human Resources audit, which is I think
conducted annually, there needs to have been a rap session
conducted in the last six months -- I think that is the
right sort of period -- in which case I think at least the
last one which is within the last six months should be
within in the restaurant, complete with an action plan.

  Q. What about the one that you took; what happened to the
       notes that you made?
       A. I would have kept a copy and given a copy to Ray and
discussed them with him. But as to what happened with the
notes, normally, when things like this take place, you copy
the notes to the Regional Office, and I would have also
kept a record of them for my own purposes on my files at
home. So, store, me, office, and then the office
disseminate that information to, I think, possibly to the
senior Supervisor. I am not sure.

  Q. Did you check your records at home for the records of this
       rap session?
       A. I have discarded (and deliberately discarded) all my
information relating to the period when I was a
Supervisor. When I moved, several years ago in Suffolk,
I had extensive notes regarding all the restaurants and all
the Managers and all dimensions of their operation.

  Q. Why did you discard them all?
       A.  Because they were cluttering up my filing cabinet;
I did not wish to pay a removal company to transport them,
when I could put them in the bin.

  Q. So, were these all documents which there were other copies
       of elsewhere?
       A. There may have been for some of them, and for others
there would not have been. A lot of it would have just
been daily communication with the restaurant management and
notes that I left when I was in the store. I mean, for
instance, when I was in the store I was -- I mean, you have
to realise at this time I was actually a new Supervisor, so
I was very keen on establishing the right system, but
