Day 036 - 13 Oct 94 - Page 44
What I will say is we will resume in this case at either
quarter past 2 or so soon thereafter as I have disposed of
the other matter.

(Short Adjournment)

DR. NEAL BARNARD, Recalled

MR. RAMPTON: Having reflected upon the matter over the
adjournment, my cross-examination of Dr. Barnard is
complete.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want a bit of time to think about the
re-examination?

MS. STEEL: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How long do you think you need to take?
I am not asking you to make it as short as you think you
might do it in. Give me a realistic estimate.

MS. STEEL: Do you mean of the break or how long we think we
will be in re-examination?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. How long the break is.

MS. STEEL: A quarter of an hour. Would that be all right?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That would certainly be all right.

MR. RAMPTON: It may save time eventually if it were a little
longer.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is what I was trying to say. You tell
me how much you need. Do not worry about whether I want
to keep it as short as possible.

MS. STEEL: I do not really know, to be honest.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will say a quarter to three which gives
you half an hour. I will ask Mr. Styles if he will come
out at about twenty two and you can tell him if you need
longer. The real constraint on time this afternoon is
that you do not take so long there is risk of not
finishing Dr. Barnard. I have to leave at about half past
four.

MS. STEEL: I do not think that will be a problem.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I want to say a little more about what we
were saying before lunch, not to invite debate, but so you
can take away what I say and show it to anyone whose
advice you may be seeking.

MR. MORRIS: Before we break, Dr. Barnard could be advised then
to get his flight booked for tomorrow?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. You will be free to go to tomorrow.
By the end of this afternoon you will be released from
this court, Dr. Barnard.
