somewhere about restrictions on the press being something
to be avoided like the plague in legal proceedings.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Do not concern yourself about that at
the moment. I am concerned with your position. If any
representative of the media asked my leave to intervene in
order to present an argument or an application on their
behalf I would consider it when it was made. Just pause
       for a moment.

MR. MORRIS: Can I say in addition -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, do not say anything.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. What was it you wanted to say,
       Mr. Morris?

MR. MORRIS: We do not believe any order making any restriction
       in terms of -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. I need not trouble you about that.

(For ruling, please see separate transcript)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How are you going to go about things?

MR. MORRIS: First of all, did you want to know how we are going
       to record?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I should, perhaps, add that I will give
reasons for that ruling if, in due course, I adhere to my
previous ruling in relation to the obtaining of transcripts
by the Defendants. That is, if I say that they are not
entitled for copies of the official transcripts at the
Plaintiffs' expense, I will then give reasons for the leave
which I have just granted. If I rule in their favour on
the application which I expect to be made, the whole matter
will become academic in any event.

How are you going to go about things?

  MR. MORRIS: The recording?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: We are just about to put a tape into this little
tape-recorder here. Today there will be no witnesses so,
hopefully, there will be no problem.

We believe this application is a very important one in
terms of the progress of the trial.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You had better start by saying what the
       application is.

MR. MORRIS: There are a number of applications, or the effect
of the application is that we say that it is an absolute
necessity that the Defendants have a copy of the transcript
that the Plaintiffs have for the rest of this trial.
