Day 094 - 01 Mar 95 - Page 28

  Q. Are you aware that the Centre for Disease Control named
McDonald's as the source of the outbreak?
       A. As a possible source, a direct link you just read the
       statement, yes.

  Q. You have not read it, have you?
       A. No.

  Q. Has McDonald's got a problem about admitting responsibility
for problems as a result of the consumption of its food by
customers? Do you have a problem on that?
       A. No, we do not.

  Q. Would you like to -- we will have to find this document, I
       suppose.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yellow XII, section D, No. 14.

MR. MORRIS: That is Mr. Rummel, is it not?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: I was referring to the Defendants Second
Supplementary List No. 25, the actual report.

MR. RAMPTON: I wonder where this gets us, my Lord, I really do.
I have sat here quite patiently a number of times when
       this has happened -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Where are you going on now? Are you going on
-- is this related to your last question, whether
McDonald's have a problem admitting it?

  MR. MORRIS: OK.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Because you can comment to me about that when
we have had the witnesses and I have heard what they may
have conceded, what they have not, and what I make of it.
I will be able to form my own view as to whether it is a
stonewall when in difficulty and press forward when doing
       well situation or not.

MR. MORRIS: Do you regularly pay the medical bills and related
claims of individuals who have suffered from food poisoning
after eating at one of your stores?
       A. No. I do not know what you mean by "regularly". If we
know, like in this case, we are obviously did, if we feel
that there might have been a possibility, we did; we do.
If that happens again we will do it again.

  Q. Are you aware that was the first such outbreak of the
E.coli infection and disease, except for a sporadic case of
haemorrhagic colitis in 1975, forgetting that, this was the
first such outbreak of such a disease ever recorded?
       A. That is correct, I am aware of, yes.

  Q. If McDonald's has such high industry standards, how come
this disease first appeared in customers eating at a
       McDonald's store?
