Day 259 - 10 Jun 96 - Page 79

       still existed.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: They should, strictly, be the ones which are
discovered rather than the Kings' reports, should they
       not?

MR. RAMPTON: That is exactly why we have disposed of the Kings'
reports because we thought the notes had disappeared.
These came from the inquiry firm though; not from
       McDonald's or from Barlows.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. It was just you say "if necessary" --
bring them to court in the morning.

MR. RAMPTON: I am sorry, I did not mean that. I meant edited,
if necessary. We will certainly bring them to court
tomorrow. I did not mean that they would not be brought.
       Of course they will be.

There is one other thing I would like to ask you about, Mr.
Bishop, one other specific thing: I think it is you. My
Lord, I cannot find it at the moment. It does not matter
very much. I am looking for the notes of 9th August. If
your Lordship will forgive me a moment, I have got myself
out of order. I am sorry. Behind 8D, Mr. Bishop?
       A. Yes.

  Q. There are some notes and there is a signature at the bottom
with your name. Do you see that? We see the date you give
there is 10th August, 1990. It is the last page in 8D, or
       it should be.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have found the Kings Investigation Bureau
Limited. It is right at the very back of the divider. So,
I want to ask about what to do with notes in a moment
       before there is any cross-examination.

MR. RAMPTON: I will. I am, my Lord, at the moment a bit
puzzled why the notes of 9th August are not there.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let me take the point now.

  MR. RAMPTON: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: At the moment I have notes in various
dividers behind the witnesses who either made them or, in
the most recent case, made a note which Kings transformed,
whether by changing it in any way or just putting their
letter heading on it and sending it to Barlows.

What would be most convenient for me would be to take all
the notes, as I take them out of a particular witness
section write on them the name of the witness so I know
whose notes they are said to be, and then put all the notes
in chronological order. It may mean with some witnesses
that there is more than one set of notes for a particular
meeting, but not have them even in chronological order for
one witness and in chronological for the next,
chronological order right the way through. Provided
I write on them the name of the witness and then I will put
