Day 045 - 03 Nov 94 - Page 57

Q. You would hope that they would do that rather than eating
at home?
A. No, I think the meals at home are meals at home with
your family. If they are out and they are also going
out -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I think, to give you an example, a 12
year-old, for instance, might be going to meet some friends
on a Saturday afternoon. He may have the choice, if
parents allow, or his parents allow him or her to make it,
as to whether they have something to eat before they leave
or go out, meet their friends outside a McDonald's, have
their lunch there and then go on with whatever they are
going to do on the Saturday afternoon?
A. Yes, I think that is a perfectly acceptable scenario.

MS. STEEL: In that case you would be hoping that they would eat
out rather than at home?
A. Again, if they make a decision that they would like to
go to McDonald's, I hope that they would. I do not think
it is a matter of how many times they choose McDonald's.
It is a matter of hoping that they will come to McDonald's
when they think about it, yes.

Q. But part of the reason they think about it, would it not be
fair to say, might be either what they see on television or
what their friends are thinking of doing or whatever?
A. It may be a number of reasons, yes.

Q. Right, but at any rate you would be very glad of their
custom?
A. Excuse me?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think the answer to that really is obvious;
you do not need to ask that question. Again I will repeat
what I said yesterday afternoon (because we have been over
some of this ground already) and the answers given when
Mr. Green was answering then are exactly the same.

If his advertising brings new customers in of whatever age,
and whether or not they are already quick service
restaurant customers or not, he is only too happy -- he has
expressed a view as to where his most likely targets are --
to draw them in from any age group and from any previous
eating pattern.

MR. RAMPTON: Mr. Green nodded. Could he be stimulated to say
"yes"?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You nodded. It has to be on the tape.
Anyway, you were agreeing with that?
A. Yes, in general, absolutely.

MS. STEEL: OK. Page 221 looking at those, the first graph in
1988, 69 per cent of customers purchased "Any Sandwich"; is
that right?
A. Yes, the shading is a bit missing from my copy, but
I believe that "Any Sandwich" and the 69 per cent go
together.
