Day 184 - 06 Nov 95 - Page 19

breaks and making sure they came back?
       A. We just ask the Manager, and then the Manager is right
beside us, and we say, you know, "So-and-so needs a break.
It is slowing down. I think we can send them now." But
the ultimate final decision is always up to the Manager.

  Q. Right. When you were an ordinary crew person for four
years, did you ever complain about low pay, not getting
       enough money?
       A. No.

  Q. Did you ever feel you were not getting enough money?
       A. No.

  Q. Did you ever criticise any of the conditions in the store
when you were a crew person?
       A. Not that I can remember.

  Q. You just accepted everything, or you felt happy with it
       all?
       A. I was happy with it all. That is why I am still there,
because I am very happy with my job. The only thing --
sometimes, I have -- the only thing that sometimes was that
McDonald's only gives us -- like, I sometimes felt that
I did not get enough hours, but I just got a second job to
       do with that.

  Q. Was that a job with Northern Reflections?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Was that because you needed more money?
       A. No. I just -- I wanted to work more hours. I was
trying to save up for university, so I guess I needed more
money. I had to pay my university tuition off.

  Q. The job at Northern Reflections, was that also at or near
       the minimum wage?
       A. Yes, it was. I think when I started at Northern
Reflections, I think I was making less than at Northern
Reflections than I was at McDonald's.

  Q. They would not be able to pay lower than the minimum wage?
       A. Oh, no.

  Q. It is illegal?
       A. It is illegal -- exactly.

  Q. Right. Do you know roughly when you worked at Northern
       Reflections?
       A. It was May until September and I cannot remember the
       year, I am -- I think it was 93 or 94.

  Q. Was it before the unionisation drive?
       A. Yes, it was.

  Q. So it would have been 93, if that was in October 93, around
that time. Was it around that time when the attempts were
made to form a union branch?
       A. I worked at Northern before the union thing came into
place, so it was 93. It must have been 93.
