Day 062 - 06 Dec 94 - Page 55

       A. I have got no idea.

  Q. No idea at all?
       A. No. I could not tell you.

MS. STEEL: The figures of 5 to 10 per cent that was for the
items such as Polar cups which are now handled by Perseco?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So would that be mainly paper packaging or would that be
       polystyrene?
       A. That could be some of both, since Polar Cup make both,
some paper packaging and some polystyrene packaging.

  Q. Why do some countries use wax laminate and others use
       polyethylene laminate?
       A. For historical reasons mainly. The supplier at that
place had that type of technology available. For instance,
the supplier at that point in time supplied most of the UK,
had strong ties with the US, had a mother company in the
US, and the main technology in the USA is actually wax
coated cups. So, that is the reason why there were wax
       coated cups in the UK.

  Q. On page 7.8 it is talking about the variation in usage of
       napkins and carry-out bags?
       A. Yes.

  Q. On the carry-out bags it says: "Part of the large use in
the UK in A and B bags can be explained by the fact that in
a number of stores these bags are also used in store.
Every transaction will involve the carry-out bag and there
is less use of the PP in-store trays." Do you know, does
that involve a lot of the stores in this country?
       A. At that point in time it seemed to involve quite a lot
of stores which was based, partially, on experience from
people inside our company in talking with McDonald's. Yes,
that was a practice that happened more in the UK than in
other countries. Therefore, we tried to bring it to their
       attention this way.

  Q. You do not know why that was?
       A. I do not know why it was, no.

  Q. On page 7.9 there is something about the use of wrapped
cutlery in the last sentence. That is about the UK, is it?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Is that the use of polyethylene wraps for cutlery? That
does not go on in other countries or what?
       A. It varies from country to country. Some countries will
use bulk cutlery; other countries will say, "We want the
cutlery individually wrapped for hygienic reasons".

  Q. So in this country it is individually wrapped?
       A. In this country it is.

  Q. The other countries will just have, what, a whole box full
       of plastic forks, spoons, whatever?
       A. You will have one big bag, one big liner bag and you
