Day 158 - 19 Jul 95 - Page 17
MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is across the red -----

MR. MORRIS: D-O-S-U-L, as far as I can make out. It is Do Sul,
because I have a another map in front of me.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What do you say the other one is?

MR. MORRIS: The one to the north is G-O-I-A-S. You can just
read it; it sort of slopes off above the red circle into
the diagonal striped area. Then the other region is
Minas Gerais. You can just see E-R-A-I-S, but the first
letter is "G" -- Gerais.

My understanding is that Barretos, on the map which I have
in front of me, unless the Plaintiffs challenge it, is
actually just under that third blob, under the Gerais
blob. On this map, it would be about -----

MR. RAMPTON: I am sorry, where is it supposed to be?

MR. MORRIS: Unless it is a different Barretos.

MR. RAMPTON: Barretos, my Lord, is about 300 kilometres
northwest of Sao Paulo, by the fourth blob, going in a
southerly direction. I have a proper map. I can tell
your Lordship that.

MR. MORRIS: So have I.

MR. RAMPTON: It is south of Uberiandia, which is the first one.

MR. MORRIS: That is what I said. It is just south of the third
blob that we mentioned, under the "G" of Gerais. Of course
there may be dozens of other suppliers to Braslo over the
last 15 to 20 years, and very likely will be, but we have
not been informed what they are, so we can only work on
that at the moment.

In the Vesty letter, which is where meat purchased
from ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can I just make sure I understand the
legend? Since I have been given it, I will write on it.
The top one is rain forest, the rectangle. The next one is
dense forest?

MR. MORRIS: That is correct.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is it then sparse forest?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Then Amazon frontier. Then Meat Packing
Plants, is it ---

MR. RAMPTON: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- who do not supply McDonald's?

MR. RAMPTON: That is right.
