Day 125 - 12 May 95 - Page 28

to this section; is that right?
       A. I would think so, yes. Yes.

  Q. In actual fact, although it has page 653 internal page at
the bottom, it has also got page 25 on the right-hand
side. You were mentioning -- is that a tab -----
       A. That is a section, a section of the manual, Section 25.

  Q. I see.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Might I invite you, Ms. Steel, not to put to
Mr. Beavers parts of this where you have the answer which
you wanted to get from Mr. Green.

MS. STEEL: I am not actually going to put ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. If I may mention it now, when Mr. Stein
comes to the witness box, if you have the answer which you
wanted from Mr. Beavers, think about whether it is really
to your advantage to ask Mr. Stein about it as well.

MS. STEEL: Yes. (To the witness): There are only certain
pages of the manual in here. On the internal pages it goes
from 653 to 656, then there is a gap of three pages or two
pages before we hit page 659. That would all be about
sales and marketing, would it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. If you turn to bundle page 155, which is internal page 661,
do you know whether that is the end of the sales and
       marketing section or not?
       A. I do not know. I have not perused the sales and
marketing section of the manual recently, so I cannot say
that it is. The way it ends up it does not appear to me as
       being the last page.

MS. STEEL: I do not think I have any more questions about the
Operations and Training manual. You have competition at
McDonald's, you encourage competition between the crew
members for who can take the most money, who can do this
the fastest, who can do that the fastest, do you not?
       A. I think some of our Store Managers do that.

  Q. Is that not a general philosophy that the Company
encourages, competition for badges, competition for -----
       A. Competition for a job well done. There are rewards for
the review of certain video tapes, training tapes,
knowledge of certain sections of the manual. So that is
recognised. The more knowledgeable you are, the more you
are recognised and, obviously, it will impact on your
compensation, because you will be more versatile; you have
the ability to work more than one station. Some store
managers will have from time to time a competition among
their window people, but, you know, not everybody does
that; some do, some do not.

  Q. We have heard in this country about the competition, in
some stores certainly, for who can take the most money in
an hour. Is that something that the Company thinks is a
       good idea to encourage?
