Day 079 - 27 Jan 95 - Page 33

months or when the Inspector comes?
       A. No, they signed it when it was issued and it is
attached to their file at the office.

  Q. Are you satisfied that all the suppliers are doing that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You did not sound very convinced.
       A. Well, I was thinking.

  Q. Do you know that they are doing that, or the ones that you
       visited anyway?
       A. I know that my quality control department have reported
to me that they are doing it. I have not personally gone
and looked at them. In the case of Jarret, I know it is
being done at Kingswood, Bristol, which is what you are
       driving at.

  Q. How do you know it is done at Jarrets then?
       A. Because I personally asked Mr. Bob Jarret.

  Q. Have you seen it happen at Jarrets?
       A. No, I have not been to the laboratories at Kingswood,
but he has assured me that, if I wish, I can call for all
       the laboratory reports.

  Q. Who in the plant would be responsible for doing, for
       example, these samplings?
       A. Where, at Jarrets?

  Q. Yes.
       A. Mr. Jarret, obviously, has nominated somebody to be
       responsible for quality control.

  Q. But whose job is it to do it?
       A. The Quality Control Manager, I would imagine.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you actually know who does it for Jarret?
       A. No, I do not know the name of the man who is
       responsible for it.

  Q. Or what position he or she holds?
       A. No. General knowledge tells me, sir, that it is
probably Mr. Jarret's son who is training in that business,
but that is common sense and deduction.

MR. MORRIS: He is the control quality?
       A. I think he is the Quality Control Manager.

  Q. Does that mean he actually physically does it himself or he
delegates someone else to do it?
       A. I cannot answer that, can I, sensibly?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you cannot answer it, say so, because we
may well have more direct evidence on this topic. I do not
       know.

MR. MORRIS: Where on the line, for example, that you have in
front of you would the E.coli testing sampling be done?
       A. It would not be on that line on that map on that
