Day 124 - 10 May 95 - Page 45
what proportion of take-away is drive-through? Do you have
an approximate figure for that?
A. It would be, it would range from 48 to 52, 53 per cent.

Q. So it is about 50 per cent of take-away, drive-through?
A. Then there is a percentage of the walk-in business,
that, where the product is taken away from the restaurant,
where it is not consumed on the premises, but people go
back to their cars and cart it away.

Q. I thought you meant to say that about half your business in
America is take-away, they walk out of restaurant with
their food, drink whatever, in packaging?
A. OK.

Q. Is that not what you meant?
A. It is a combination of two things. One, we have
drive-through, the drive-through business where they remain
in their cars.

Q. I understand that.
A. That is about 48 to 53 per cent, that is the range of
our drive-through business. Of the remaining 53 to 47 per
cent, there is a certain percentage of that business, that
is also take-away, where the customers actually comes up to
the counter and orders. Instead of consuming it on the
premises, they will take it back out to their car, then
drive off the premises. That percentage -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am going to start again, because I thought
you said about half your business in America was take-away
including drive-through, so what you say is -----
A. It is a little more than 50 per cent.

Q. So 48 to 52 per cent?
A. Is drive-through.

Q. Drive-through?
A. Then there is another percentage of the inside traffic
that is also -----

Q. The rest is bought at the counter by someone standing on
their own two feet?
A. That is correct.

Q. But a portion of that, they do not eat in the restaurant?
A. That is correct.

Q. They take out?
A. That is correct.

Q. In America it their car and in England, perhaps, while they
wander homewards, walking?
A. That is correct.

MR. MORRIS: Would you know roughly what the percentage of
take-away, non-drive-through take-away, percentage would be
of those that buy their food standing up at the counter?
A. I do not know what that percentage would be.
