Day 202 - 11 Jan 96 - Page 37

means, is it not; for example, like keeping people on the
       books?
       A. It is, but that would be picked up by the financial and
business controls report, so it is a balance between the
two. So it would be very, you know -- you cannot lose it.

  Q. But all the stores seem to have dramatically got their
turnover figures down within a very short space of time?
       A. I think that this may be some way of looking at it at
the time. I do not know. When were the figures that we
       just referred to earlier?

  Q. They were 89 and 90.
       A. The ones we are sort of disputing about Ipswich and
Colchester, and Ipswich was 286, which one was that?

  Q. Bury had achieved over 300 per cent on one period?
       A. I am sorry.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, it was to March. It was September 89,
       March 90, September 90.
       A. If it had gone from those very high figures, then it
was a tremendous job done by everyone to get those crew
       turnover figures down.

MR. MORRIS: One means of getting the turnover figures down is
that -- well, it does not matter. OK, then. You say: "For
1992 you have to address management turnover. I do not
want to see you lose more than two managers this year,
excluding dismissals." That is two Managers out of five,
is it, under the control of Neil Skehel?
       A. No, no, that would be all of his restaurants, like,
five restaurants. So, if he had five restaurants, it would
be five managers, so 25 minimum, but possibly a little bit
more, between 25 and 30 Managers he would have working for
       him in those five restaurants.

  Q. Not store Managers?
       A. No.

  Q. Anybody in salaried grades?
       A. Yes, salaried grades. No, he would hardly set a target
that he was to lose two Managers out of five.

  Q. That is why I was asking the question.
       A. OK, sorry.

MR. MORRIS: I want to see if there are any further questions.
I do not think there are.

MS. STEEL: You were still -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you just pause a moment, Ms. Steel.
I was just checking if we needed a break. Yes?

MS. STEEL: (To the witness): You were still senior Supervisor
when Mr. Coton left the Company?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You were?
