Day 309 - 03 Dec 96 - Page 29
Professor Jackson.

MR. MORRIS: Are we on page 4?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, at the bottom; the numbers are at the
top once you get into this section and it is the dose
dependent, a 100,000 to 100 million.

MR. MORRIS: That is Dr. North.

MR. RAMPTON: I am certain it was Dr. North who said that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Does the same apply on page 6, then, to
E.Coli, and being more vulnerable to heat -- 70 degrees
Centigrade for 15 seconds?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, those are Dr. North's own figures. I am
sorry about that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, it does not matter.

MR. RAMPTON: So, the statement at the top, at the beginning of
531, not dose dependent: "Often more serious than its
consequences". I do not know, but that is clear on the
evidence. It does not very mean very much.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is probably something, especially in the
light of recent events, which I can take additional
knowledge of.

MR. RAMPTON: That is right. Any judge or juror would know
that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. One of the things I wanted to remind
myself of, in due course, was the increases in temperature
time or cooking times.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, I think I have them all here.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is really page 8 and then on to 9.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have no reason to doubt that the figures are
incorrect, although I want to look back over the evidence,
but the figures at the top of page 9 are nearly three times
as great. I am just looking at 'flat grill' at the moment,
because the figures on page 8 are flat grill, presumably
-----

MR. RAMPTON: No, no, my Lord, they are not. I am sorry,
I should have made that clear. The figures on page 12 of
pink 10 are, as one can see if one looks at the fuller
version in 10A, for the clam shells.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Right.

MR. RAMPTON: Double-sided cooking.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. I thought there was something improbable
