Day 206 - 22 Jan 96 - Page 67
crew people, have to do?
A. All members of staff, be they salaried or whoever, will
invariably work a number of tasks of that kind or are
performed by members, you know, crew members, members of
staff.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you mean that all people in managerial
positions work jobs that -----
A. That is right. Any of the management, you know, can
work grill or be called upon to work a till or work a
station.

MR. MORRIS: But the reality is that the crew generally do the
jobs, the production jobs, and the management are in charge
of co-ordinating that work; is that correct?
A. Yes, it makes sense to have the Managers to co-ordinate
the staff because there are more staff than there are
Managers.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is the complaint Mr. Olive is making in
point 9, Mr. Morris?

MR. MORRIS: It seems to me that you are still an hourly paid
worker, expected to work on production at the same time,
you are now management and expected to able to have the
extra responsibilities that that entails. I think that is
pretty clear, it seems to me.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Anyway, that is how you understand it.

MR. MORRIS: That is how I understand it, yes. It comes right
after the previous one of "No reward scheme for Floor
Managers and limited recognition".

The next one is a bit general to really go into. I am just
checking something. (To the witness): When it says,
"communications and recruitment and the store audit" --
forget that sheet for a minute -- I am just going to ask
you, what does "communications and recruitment" mean?
A. In a ------

Q. In a store?
A. In what context, in a personnel audit?

Q. Yes.
A. Communications will be notices that would be placed
upon the crew board saying, "Mcbooks", "McScholarship"
schemes, et cetera.

Q. OK. I am just trying to check. I thought I saw something
about practices. This could be an area where the documents
could come in ---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: -- because we have a large amount of information
about, basically, the store audits, also rap session
notes. I do not particularly want to go through them with
the witness, but I have to do it at some stage this week,
but -----
