Day 134 - 13 Jun 95 - Page 73

  Q. They would have assistants just as an ordinary Restaurant
       Manager?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Are they particularly large restaurants?
       A. They are sometimes. The new general manager programme,
broadly speaking the definition I used I tried to use one
that covered both types of the general management scheme
and we are just moving towards having more general
managers. It is a pilot scheme we are having at the
moment. So many of them do have the larger restaurants.
They would have assistants. There are other new levels
that will come about which will be things like assistant
general manager who would be someone who would have the
same status as the current Restaurant Manager. It is a
       sort of whole new area.

MS. STEEL: Really I just wondered why it was there are only 12
of them whereas there are 430 store managers?
       A. Because what it was that we started out with a version
of the general management programme which was a pilot. Now
we have a further slightly different one that is being
operated, so it was a kind of trial programme.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If I may say so, it is this printout which
appeared to me, unless the time is as bizarrely set out as
the date, was in the middle of the night in the top
right-hand corner which is only of interest in so far as a
lot of these documents may be pumped out during the
       computer's otherwise idle time.
       A. Yes, I do not know.

MS. STEEL: I am only going to ask one question on this because
I basically think this is a bit of a red herring by the
Plaintiffs anyway since it is not what the leaflet says.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Say that if you wish in due course.

MS. STEEL: But if we turn to page 624D do we note that there
are no black or other ethnic minority people on the
       executive?
       A. Yes.

  Q. There is only one on the following page. There is only one
       woman executive?
       A. Yes, that is correct.

  Q. There is just one other question. A large proportion of
the company stores are in London, are they not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you know what percentage it is?
       A. No, I am sure the figures are somewhere but maybe 60
per cent. I am not sure.

  Q. I do not know it is that high. I do not know. I think
there is at least 150 in London.
       A. Yes, it is more than that.
