     4   Q.   Can you give some examples of that?
     5        A.  Well, the law provides overtime pay for any worker, if
     6        he works more, well, in excess of his normal working hours,
     7        which is set at a minimum of 40 per cent, but I do not
     8        believe McDonald's ever paid that, except occasionally
     9        maybe on Christmas Eve and Easter, at least not -----

    11   Q.   And for those night closes after the -- the night closers
    12        got 40 per cent increase?
    13        A.  After their agreement.

    15   MR. JUSTICE BELL:  That was an increase in their rate of pay,
    16        was it not?
    17        A.  Yes.  That was an increase in their rate of pay so ...
    18        But in the collective agreement there is -- it says that if
    19        you work in excess of your normal working hours you will
    20        receive 50 per cent extra before 9.00 in the evening and
    21        100 per cent after that.  These rules were put into effect
    22        and people were actually paid this.

    28   MR. MORRIS:  Your evidence is that is something that was
    29        enforced as a result of union recognition?
    30        A.  Yes, we made sure that they paid these extras.

    32   Q.   Right.  The overtime pay at 40 per cent extra, is that
    33        something that covers just the catering industry or what
    34        does that cover?
    35        A.  Oh, that is any industry.

    37   Q.   In Norway?
    38        A.  Yes.

    40   Q.   But McDonald's did not pay that previously?
    41        A.  No.

    43   Q.   In terms of adhering to employment law, what other laws
    44        were enforced as a result of the union recognition that you
    45        can remember?
    46        A.  Well, obviously we improved on the working environment,
    47        things like that, we made them install a new ventilation
    48        system, or we had the labour authorities come on an
    49        inspection and they consequently ordered McDonald's to
    50        replace the ventilation system of the restaurant.  We also 
    51        had mats, cushioning mats, installed in the kitchen and the 
    52        front areas.

    54   Q.   Cushioning mats, sorry, what are they?
    55        A.  Rubber mats to -- it is very hard to walk on tiled
    56        floors for eight hours with no rest, so we tried to
    57        alleviate that by buying cushioning mats or making
    58        McDonald's get cushioning mats so ......
