different one, although of course it is related to the
       rainforest question.

Whether or not there is an earlier version in writing of a
specification containing the rainforest policy, I do not
know. I am informed by Mr. Cesca that there is not; at
least, I think that is what his affidavit says.

If one wants to know what the company's rainforest policy
was in, let us say, 1983, one only has to look at, for
example, Mr. David Walker's statement and the Vesty letter
and the World Wildlife Fund documents.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The specifications would be relevant, though,
whether or not they said or did not say "no rainforest
beef" or whether they said or did not say "from the
continental USA only", or words which amounted to the same
       thing, would they not?

MR. RAMPTON: Can I take the second of those first? After a
search, this single document, McDonald's meat
specifications from (it is thought) 1967 -- and let not
Mr. Morris make Plasticine into concrete, as he is often
doing -- we are not certain it is 1967, and he should not
       think it is.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Concrete out of Plasticine, you mean.

MR. RAMPTON: That is the only document earlier than the ones in
the bundles which have so far been found. Whether there
are any others, I simply do not know.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I appreciate all that. It is just if there
were such documents -- all we are establishing, if there
were such documents, then they would be discoverable.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes. But we are back where we were, with respect,
       an hour ago, because -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is really what I started by saying: is
this not a possible -- I say no more than possible -- loose
end arising from Dr. Gomez Gonzalez' evidence?

MR. RAMPTON: It may be, my Lord. It is no more than that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not think I need make a ruling on that.
It has been raised as a possible subject for further
       discovery.

  MR. RAMPTON: Absolutely.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Or, rather, as a subject of possible further
       discovery.

MR. MORRIS: It is an application for discovery of those
       documents.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us see what comes of it, because it goes
       back to Dr. Gomez Gonzalez.
