       A. Yes, it is about 10 years later.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It was the early 90s, was it not? You said
1982. It may have been a slip of the tongue.

MR. MORRIS: Did I say 1982? I am sorry, 1992. It was a trick
question to see if you were awake!

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: 1992, Newcastle.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. (To the witness): April 1992, this was just
after you ended as Head of Personnel, was it?
       A. It was in the ---

  Q. Grey area?
       A. -- grey area, yes. I was attending work very
irregularly at that time. In fact, I had already been
appointed Ombudsman, so it was a hand-over period.

  Q. So you were concerned with that incident, were you? You
were concerned in the investigation of that incident?
       A. No, no. It was investigated by the region together
with the Newcastle City Police. I saw the final report. I
       was kept advised.

  Q. Were you satisfied the Manager was gaoled for six
       months ---
       A. That is correct.

  Q. -- for inducing the crew member Helen Caulderwood ---
       A. Lobby hostess.

  Q. The lobby hostess. So, the Manager, Pati Maheron ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- was gaoled for six months for inducing the lobby
       hostess ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. She is a member of the crew, though, is she not?
       A. She is an hourly paid worker. She is more than a crew
person. She is lobby hostess; that is the sort of next
       rank up.

  Q. OK -- to make a hoax bomb call to Burger King ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- and the Manager got six months sentence and Helen
Caulderwood got 120 hours Community Service ---
       A. That is correct.

  Q. -- even though she made the actual call?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Were you satisfied with the apportionment of blame in that
       situation?
       A. This was a matter for the Police.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am not going to ask for that. It was a
judicial decision made by the Magistrates, and I am not the
