     with the clock cards.

Q. Are you saying that Mr. Skehel told you that, or just that
is what you inferred from him not changing the targets?
     A. That was the impression that he gave me.

Q. What, from not changing the targets or from something he
     actually said?
     A. From the way the conversation went which was,
basically, inferring that what he wanted me to do was stop
anything that was not in the book, but I was still
expected to hit those targets by any means within my
     disposal to do it.

MR. RAMPTON: Mr. Coton, one of the things that happens when a
performance takes place is that the assessor, or the rator
as he is sometimes called in these documents, the assessor
comments on the quality of the products in the store, does
     he not?
     A. He does, yes.

Q. One of the things that is important in McDonald's store is
the quality of the milk shakes, is it not?
     A. It is, yes.

Q. So if the quality of the milk shakes in the store is poor
or peculiar or unusual, you would expect to find comments
in the Manager's or the Second Assistant's performance
     reviews, would you not?
     A. Yes. What you need to bear in mind before you carry
on in there is that we had a distinct problem with the
shake machine at Colchester store that had nothing to do
with the products, but it was the machine itself which was
a long running thing which you will find is a running
theme through some of the reports.

Q. Yes, I understand that. Your evidence is that it was
common practice, perhaps even habitual, I do not know,
that the milk shake mix would be diluted so as to increase
     the yield?
     A. That is correct, yes.

Q. And so improve the PAC, right? I think you tell us that
that originated so far as you are concerned with
     Mr. Stanton?
     A. Around that time, yes.

Q. That you saw Mr. Davies doing it and that it went on all
through the time when Mr. Davies was the Manager, yes?
     A. That is correct.

Q. And all through the time that you were the Manager until,
perhaps, the time when Mr. Skehel took over as
Supervisor. Have I got it right?
     A. Correct, yes.

Q. What is the effect of putting water into the shake mix?
     A. In what respect?

Q. Well, first of all does it make it runny?
