Day 202 - 11 Jan 96 - Page 41
A. It would have been kept on file in Head Office, but
I do not know how long those records would go back for.

Q. Right. What sort of things do they cover, then? Are you
talking about turnover?
A. Human Resource audits covered such things as checking
to see whether we had any ghost employees on the payroll.
So you would make sure that everyone there had been
working, checking on the legalities of scheduling and
payroll; I believe checking of performance reviews was
done; it was involved in those. There is quite a
comprehensive report, that -- my memory is a little bit
foggy on it. It is a long time since I saw one. But the
purpose of it was just to make, just as a check and
balance, in dealing with crew, that everything was as it
should be; so anything within that area.

Q. Would it include turnover and things like, reasons why crew
had left in the preceding year, or -----
A. It would, I think, more make sure the paperwork had
been completed rather than any assessment of why people
were leaving, you know, in the restaurant. But I could not
categorically say that it was not the case.

Q. But what -- sorry, I am not sure. I do not think you have
answered whether it included turnover or not?
A. Because I do not know.

Q. You do not know?
A. Well, at Head Office they would have known what the
turnover figure for the restaurant was. It was not
calculated when you went into a store. It was just,
I think, a simple mathematical calculation: if you had
this many crew at the week ending, the second week of 1995,
you had this many crew in the previous year, you have --
there has been so many people lost during that period, then
you work the percentage out. So that is how the crew
turnover figure was maintained, rather than visiting a
restaurant and checking anything through.

MR. MORRIS: I have three more questions, and that may be it.
Sally Spurgeon was on duty that night when the clock cards
were altered, was she not?
A. Um -----

Q. That was part of the investigation, was it not?
A. I guess so.

Q. You do not remember?
A. I do not remember the details of it for this. What
I do know is that it was her code that was used,
I remember.

Q. Bearing in mind that Neil Skehel had a reputation for being
a bit of a tyrant and that you were relying to a very great
extent on information from Neil Skehel about what was
happening in Ray Coton's store, do you not think it is
irresponsible of you not to have had a meeting with Ray
Coton during this period, just one to one, to find out what
was really going on?
