Day 296 - 07 Nov 96 - Page 35

which is hardly low in fat, et cetera, and high in fibre,
       et cetera anyway.

  MS. STEEL: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: And that one has to put the McDonald's food
       into that equation.

  MS. STEEL: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will make a note. (Pause) Yes.

MS. STEEL: I mean, the point is that basically the Plaintiffs
or the witnesses seem to be trying to suggest that, you
know, it is absolutely fine to eat at McDonald's because as
long as for the rest of the week you, you know, eat muesli
for breakfast and salad for tea, you know, there is
       absolutely no problem.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is not quite right. You did not have
to try particularly hard if it was once a week. It was
when you were doing it once a day that -----

  MS. STEEL: Whatever.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think I made some comment that I have
       never known a teenager -----

MR. RAMPTON: There is a limit to the extent to which I am
willing to sit here and allow my case to be totally
misrepresented. That has never been our case. In fact,
you can eat it once a day without having to have disgusting
       substances ---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There may be a debate about that.

MR. RAMPTON: Without having to eat horrible muesli for
       breakfast.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Carry on. I think it did slightly overstate
the way it was put in the actual evidence.

MS. STEEL: The overall point is, basically, that, you know, at
the end of the day a McDonald's meal is a negative
contribution to the diet. If I can just say as well that I
think our case has actually been misrepresented by
       Mr. Rampton on several occasions.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, do not -----

MS. STEEL: And obviously the higher -- well, Professor
Wheelock accepted that the higher the fat in the meal, the
more careful you had to be with the rest of your diet.
That was on day 15, page 30.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: 13 or 30?

MS. STEEL: 30. Professor Wheelock accepted that if you sat
down with someone who ate a typical McDonald's meal, i.e.,
burger, chips and a drink, then it would be a fair comment
