Day 042 - 31 Oct 94 - Page 35

Q. Again, was that a different one each week?
A. Yes, it is.

Q. I think this has probably been noted before, but just in
case it has not, it does say "excluding pure orange juice
and milk", for the Happy Meal?
A. That actually is an old commercial. We do substitute
orange juice and milk now.

Q. When did that change?
A. I am not sure.

Q. When you say "substitute", is that when someone actually
asks for it specifically?
A. Yes.

Q. Why did that change?
A. Because people, customers, said that they wanted a
choice, not just a soft drink but also the orange juice or
the milk.

Q. Did they say why?
A. To do with how they wished to feed their child,
I suppose; they just want a greater choice.

(The next advertisement was shown)

Q. That is McDonald's food. Again, it says there is a
different one each week?
A. That is right.

(The next advertisement was shown)

Q. That was a hamburger being shown there, was it not?
A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What was that one called, again?

THE WITNESS: "Ghost train".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: I do not know whether you can see from there, but
there do not appear to be any adults in that picture?
A. That is probably correct. I cannot see. It may well
be correct.

Q. Is that not something that is contrary to your own
guidelines?
A. Not when we are with Ronald, no.

Q. So when they are with Ronald, it is all right if they are
on their own?
A. Yes. They are in a totally fantasy place there, with
Ronald and the characters.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Have a closer look. I am not sure whether
that is right. Is that not a man sitting in the immediate
foreground, with children either side of him?
