Day 185 - 07 Nov 95 - Page 51

Q. You come into the restaurant for the whole day ---
A. Right.

Q. -- making it your business to make phone calls and to talk
to members of the staff. What I think is being suggested
to you it must have got around to whoever was there why you
gone in that day?
A. Well, when I first came in, the only people who knew
who were coming in was Sabina and Chris and I. They were
the only three people who knew what was going on. Until
I spoke to anybody, nobody would have known what I was
doing, so .....

Q. But did not a time come during the day when it would be
obvious to whoever was managing the restaurant while you
were there?
A. Not necessarily, because most of the people I spoke to
was after their shift when they were leaving, so they just
walk out and not say anything to anybody. When I leave my
shift, I do not stop and talk to everybody for five or 10
minutes. I just leave and go home.

MR. MORRIS: If you went to see people in the crew room, then
anybody in the crew room would have got to find out why you
were there, and some people in the crew room would have
gone back to their stations anyway, would they not?
A. The ones I spoke to who were on break, yes, they would
have gone back to their stations.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Was Mr. Ballantyne there at all that day, can
you remember now?
A. As far as I remember, that was the weekend his mother
was in the hospital, so he was not there the whole
weekend. He was not in the town of Orangeville for the
whole weekend.

MR. MORRIS: He dropped in at some stage or other though?
A. Not for the weekend. He was not there. He took his
mother in the hospital.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I think there is a misunderstanding.
What you are saying, for the whole weekend he did not visit
or was not in there?
A. He was not in the town. His mother does not live in
Orangeville. She is, like, an hour away.

Q. He was not there at all that weekend, you are saying?
A. That is what I am saying, right.

MR. MORRIS: In the course of these conversations where you were
trying to get people to sign this petition, is that correct
---
A. Yes.

Q. -- you discovered, so you say, animosity towards Sarah; is
that correct?
A. Well, yes, a lot of crew were upset that she had lied
to them as well.
