Day 186 - 10 Nov 95 - Page 07

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Have you got it written down?

MS. STEEL: I have not actually got it because I have only got
one copy and I have notes on it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we photocopy it on there?

MS. STEEL: Not really. I have notes all over it.

MR. RAMPTON: Can we not use these things to blot out the notes
just for the time being, because I really would like to
       have it.

MS. STEEL: It is very short.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Take it very slowly then, because I know it
will come on Caseview but I would like to copy it into my
       notebook.

MS. STEEL: OK. McDonald's portray their food as a useful and
nutritious part of any diet, when the reality is that an
average McDonald's meal is high in fat, sugar, animal
products and salt (sodium) and low in fibre, vitamins and
minerals; and that if your diet is high in fat, etcetera --
the "etcetera" is just to save writing all that out again
-- "the medical profession considers that you are at
greater risk of suffering cancer of the breast and bowel
       and heart disease.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: Although greater risk is not specifically stated in
the leaflet, the reason for greater risk is that because,
as I think has just been basically accepted, people
understand that these things are not absolute, that not
everybody is affected or even necessarily most are affected
or many are affected. I have said this, but just to say
that the previous meanings that I have said to me are the
same; it is just different ways of describing the same
       thing.

I am going to go slightly out of my original order now,
because I wanted to deal with meaning H. You said not to
bother with a meaning for G.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: No.

MS. STEEL: We have actually got a pleaded meaning for the last
two parts of the nutrition section of the leaflet, but it
covers both G and H, so I have tried to express H on its
own. But if you wanted to look at the original one, it is
       meaning D in the -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We have been told that we can forget
       meaning G.

MS. STEEL: Yes -- no, this one is meaning D in our one, for
some reason; I do not know why. In our further and better
particulars of the particulars of justification and fair
