Day 193 - 28 Nov 95 - Page 38

corporations when a union is being sought to prolong the
unionisation of a place to create sort of a hostile
atmosphere; that is the term that we use.

  Q. Did that, in fact -- is that what you were saying in your
evidence then, that was what was happening in the
       workplace?
       A. Yes, and, I mean, it is even evident in the pamphlet,
the "Just Say No", that employees were already tired of it
because I believe it said advantages without a union, it
said something to the effect no lengthy hearings any more,
you know, no legal hearings any more, but the union was not
the one that was making the hearings lengthy.

  Q. Right. Going to your hours again, your hours being cut, if
you can go back to page 1637 in pink bundle -----
       A. 137, pardon me?

  Q. 1637, please. Do you have that?
       A. Yes.

  Q.   The first page, your note, "Monday to Saturday cannot work;
Saturday" -- I cannot read that.
       A. To, it is just an arrow pointing "7 to close".

  Q. Sorry, does that mean you were available 7 to close?
       A. Yes.

  Q. On Saturday, and on Sunday you were available from open to
       11.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. until close?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. So, are you saying you were available for two shifts? What
       were you saying there?
       A. I am just saying those were my hours that I was
available to work at the restaurant.

  Q. There are three shifts there, but I am assuming you would
not be able to work any openings?
       A. Yes, you would not open and close, no.

  Q. Right. On the next page -- sorry, can I just ask you a
general question, how many hours would you have liked to
       work each week?
       A. It was policy of McDonald's, at our McDonald's that you
had to be available to close once in a week and I believe
they termed the week from Sunday to Thursday, and I think
it was once a close every other weekend, which is
classified as a Friday evening or a Saturday evening, I
       believe.

  Q. I am not sure if we are getting any closer to understanding
the situation. If you go on the chart, if we look at the
       weeks under October, yes?
       A. Mmm.

  Q. October is once the union drive came out in the open, yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. The first day, the second -- would that day 2 be a Tuesday,
