1 natural forests were being destroyed to make way for new
plantations of forests, would that be something that you
2 would not want to look into or at the moment it has not
              been an issue so far?
3 A. It has not been an issue. We are taking a position
that we are going to research that and try to found out
4 what environmental impact occur with whatever forestry
management practices are used. I do not know a lot about
     5 the forestry management practices.

6 Q. When you say mill location and people that those mills
tend to use local forests, what kind of area in your
7 experience would that cover, would it cover 50 miles,
              within 500 miles?
     8 A. I would certainly would think somewhere 100 to 150
miles; it would not be economical for them to retrieve
9 lumber from much further than that.

10 Q. Some people are calling on companies to go what is called
"old growth free", to make a commitment not to use -----?
11 A. McDonald's in the US could make that statement now, I
assume that because we are not in the regions that have
    12 the old growth forests.

13 Q. It has not been an issue yet.

14 MR. MORRIS: Just let me collect my thoughts. Obviously, it
would be better to try and finish today if we can.
15 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, very much so, and unless it is quite
impossible to finish Mr. Kouchoukos, subject to anything
16 relating to Mr. Lipsett, we must do so. Remember that
              Mr. Langert is to come
    17
MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I have already had to sacrifice
    18 Professor Duxbury.

19 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. That is no-one's fault.
Mr. Kouchoukos took half a day in-chief, so one could well
20 expect he would take half a day in cross-examination. But
I am very keen to release him this afternoon. Do you have
21 any more questions, Miss Steel?

22 MISS STEEL: Really there is some sort of arithmetic side of
things that I did not really have time to go into which
23 I wanted to look into but .....

24 MR. JUSTICE BELL: You may find that it is not necessary to put
that to the witness. In fact, if in the course of
25 submissions we are going into arithmetic, if it can be
word-processed and it is on a piece of paper, that would
26 be helpful to me because one can check it through as you
              go through it.
    27
MISS STEEL: We are a bit concerned about the Big Mac
28 comparison to a home meal. We have not really had time to
              look at the figures.
    29
MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I do not pretend to have got to the
30 bottom of that myself, but I think we probably have the
material upon which you could tackle it. I think the
