Day 249 - 14 May 96 - Page 62

  Q. -- how things were progressing?
       A. Yes.

  Q. They gave you details of what they discovered?
       A. Yes, they used to send in a report of what their agent
had observed about once a week -- maybe not as regularly as
that, but about once a week. That was sent in to Barlows,
never to me, and then I would have a meeting with
Mrs. Brinley-Codd and she would give me a copy of the
       agency's report.

  Q. That was when you were meeting her once a week?
       A. Yes, roughly once a week. Yes.

  Q. Right. Attached to that report would there be copies of
any literature that the investigators had obtained at the
group, the leaflets and so on?
       A. I can only remember on one occasion, I am sure, where
there was a copy of a letter -- not a copy of a letter, the
       actual letter, I think.

  Q. What letter was that?
       A. It was... I cannot remember now, but it was a letter
from someone writing to London Greenpeace asking for a copy
       of the leaflet, I believe.

  Q. What did you do when you got a copy of that letter?
       A. I asked Mrs Brinley-Codd to phone up Mr. Hartley and
tell him that this was contrary to my instructions. It was
       not to happen again.

  Q. As far as you were aware Mrs. Brinley-Codd was not keeping
you in the dark about what was going on with these private
investigators and what they were obtaining was she?
       A. No.

  Q. That was from Mr. Hartley, so that would have been the
Kings company not the Bishops company?
       A. Yes, Kings company.

  Q. Right. How long were the private investigators employed
       for?
       A. Bishops ended, I think, round about July. I think
       round about July.

  Q. July when?
       A. '90.

  Q. July 1990?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Right. What about Kings?
       A. They pulled out their last operative in January '91.

  Q. Why do you say January '91?
       A. Because that is when the last operative was pulled
out. Our contract with Kings finished then.

  Q. How are you sure that was when your contract with Kings
