Day 179 - 30 Oct 95 - Page 20

  Q. But I am just trying to see how the management team worked
together; these things that you have seen, how did they
come about? How would these decisions be made and
       discussed?
       A. Regarding sacking people?

  Q. Any of the things -- you have criticised a lot of things in
       your statement, in your evidence.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think the question is -- where you have
lost Mr. Gibney is the question is so wide. You see,
I thought you were on percentages and targets.

  MR. MORRIS: Yes, sorry.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you want to ask what, if any, input the
management team in the store had to that, then ask that so
that Mr. Gibney realises what you are getting at, what you
       want information on.

  MR. MORRIS: Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Did you mean to ask him that or have I missed
       the point?

MR. MORRIS: I was trying to see to what extent individuals were
making decisions that were affecting the practices, or
whether they were store management decisions on how they
come about, or whether they came from higher up. So if you
just explain how the management system worked while you
were part of the management, effectively?
       A. The Supervisor would basically set the targets for any
store and he would be the one to say: "The labour is
running too high" or "Cut your costs on this or that".
Obviously, I presume, the Senior Supervisor would be the
one instructing him and the Store Manager would then pass
his orders down to the other assistant managers to carry
       out.

  Q. When you said "pass his orders down", does he do that
       individually or did ---
       A. At a meeting -----

  Q. -- you have a management meeting?
       A. We did.

  Q. Explain the situation.
       A. There would be either a weekly or monthly -- I do not
remember -- management meeting where all the different
areas of the store would be spoken about, staff or stock,
       any problems gone over.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Who would attend that?
       A. All of the managers.

  Q. Would the Area Supervisor be there as well?
       A. No. One Manager would remain on the floor running the
       shop.
