Day 119 - 02 May 95 - Page 56

  Q. When you said that the majority of grievances, you said it
is rare to not be resolved -- they were your words -- is
that correct? It is rare for a grievance not to be
       resolved?
       A. Yes, I think the majority of them are resolved.

  Q. But, of course, you would not know, would you, because you
       do not have that information?
       A. I just believe that -- you asked me, do I believe it --
       I believe it.

  Q. So why do you believe it? What leads you to believe that
the grievances that, say, crew members have are, apart from
       in rare cases, resolved?
       A. Because Field Personnel Officers examine rap session
notes very diligently. They attend the management meeting
to resolve the matters brought up under rap session notes,
and they are dealt with at crew meetings which follow. If
they were not resolved, they would certainly bring it to
my, or would have done when I was the Head of Department,
       bring it to my attention.

  Q. So, do you monitor or gather information on the reasons why
crew members leave the Company or their employment is
       terminated?
       A. There is carried out an interview and that is put down
in their crew records, their reason for leaving. They will
be examined in the fullness of time by Supervisors and
       Field Personnel Officers.

  Q. Is there any national picture that is built up on the
reasons for people either leaving or for being sacked?
       A. I think we have made attempts to compile information,
especially if it is a serious matter. If it alerts the
Field Personnel Officer, then, yes, I think there have been
       attempts to create trend patterns.

  Q. They do that in America, do they not?
       A. I do not know.

  Q. You do not know?
       A. No.

  Q. So have you seen these trend patterns?
       A. Oh, yes, I have. That is how I answered the question
the way I did, but it is some time ago. It is a long time
ago -- four years, five years.

  Q. What form are they in?
       A. I cannot remember now, but I do remember seeing trends
for people leaving the Company. Lyn Mead will be able to
give you a much more complete answer than I can, but I do
remember seeing records of the reasons people leave the
       Company.

  Q. What about ----
       A. It is certainly done on staff positions.

  Q. Sorry?
       A. It is certainly done on salaried, staff positions and
