Day 168 - 03 Oct 95 - Page 46

-- when you are cooking, the temperature will drop as a
result of you putting meat on the grill.

  Q. Pause a moment. One will always be on, why?
       A. Because you use the grills left and right on each grill
-- each grill is divided in half; you use half the grill
and then you will use the right-hand side, let us say,
after you used the left-hand side, and while you are using
the right-hand side the left-hand side will -- it will
basically run through a series of checks to make sure it is
at the right temperature and, if it is not, the lights will
come on and it will heat up accordingly.

  Q. Is what you are saying, if you just use the right-hand side
of the grill to cook some burgers, for instance, that will
       reduce the temperature?
       A. The grill will probably be able to keep up as long as
it is well maintained, but it needs a short period of time,
maybe five, ten seconds with nothing on it at all before it
can -- in order to ----

  Q. So the light will come on again because it has started
heating up and then it will go off?
       A. Yes, then it will go off because it has reached the
appropriate temperature. There are always lights on. The
lights I am referring to in my statement as going off when
the grill goes off are the timer lights eye level. They
actually go off as a result of the grill going off because
they are on the same circuit.

  Q. They are the four set of lights, the one at the top level,
       are they?
       A. No, there are four sets of lights down below and there
is a set of lights up above which are just timers for
cooking the meat, and they will blink off and the timers
will shut down completely when the electrical power is
       cut.

MR. MORRIS: So the knee level lights do not go out?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we just pause because I made a note
earlier. Lights on the grill are knee high; there are four
lights indicating front, middle and back and top level
too. What were you referring to when you said "top level"
       there?
       A. Because it is two-sided cooking, there is a bottom
platen which you lay the meat on and there is another
platen which comes down on top. That fourth light tells
       you ----

  Q. There are three for the bottom ----
       A. That is right. There are three different heating
       zones.

  Q. And one for the top level?
       A. One for the top.

MR. MORRIS: But the lights at eye level?
       A. Are the timers.
