Day 204 - 15 Jan 96 - Page 08

       A. It did not happen.

  Q. You did not see it?
       A. I did not see it, and it did not happen.

  Q. You cannot answer for what was going on out of your sight,
       can you?
       A. Whilst I was in the restaurant, it did not happen.

  Q. Are you saying that you individually checked all the
burgers to make sure that they had their full portion of
       cheese?
       A. As a Floor Manager, it was one of my responsibilities
to look after a certain position, be it the front of the
tills, be it the grill area; and if I was in the grill
area, it never, I can say, happened when I was there.
I think we would -- I would have noticed anyway.

  Q. So, if other witnesses have said that they did that, that
they cut the cheese slices into two-thirds and one third,
two-thirds for the cheeseburgers and one-third for the
fillet-o-fish, that was while you were not around; is that
       what you are saying?
       A. It never happened when I was on shift, no.

  Q. You remember an incident at some time when you were hourly
paid under Ray Coton's management (which you say was only
between 1st August 1987 to 12th February 1988) when your
hours were docked. Do you remember how many hours were
       docked?
       A. Yes. It was one hour exactly.

  Q. Just one hour?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You complained about that and, what, you were given the
       money, or what happened?
       A. Well, it was actually a Sunday, and Ray did the payroll
summary report on a Sunday. He actually recorded the
details from the clock cards on to the sheet that was sent
       off to Head Office, so people could get paid the wages;
and, just being inquisitive, I looked on the report, and
there was not actually the same as my clock card by one
hour. I mentioned it to Ray and said to him that it was
incorrect, and he went slightly blushed and said, oh, it
       was a mistake.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause there. (Pause) Yes?

MS. STEEL: So, it was all sorted out before your actual pay
       came through ---
       A. Yes, it was.

  Q. -- so there was nothing to rectify on that account? Did
check anybody else's records at the same time or anything?
       A. No, not at all.

  Q. Were you aware of other people complaining at the time
about similar things happening to them?
       A. You had people complain about their money being
