Day 204 - 15 Jan 96 - Page 39

  Q. As an indication of what crew are thinking or feeling about
certain issues they have been asked about, does the Company
take it seriously or just ignore it completely?
       A. Take it seriously.

  Q. And it is a completely confidential survey, is it?
       A. I think it is as confidential as you can possibly make
       it, yes.

  Q. Is the reason it is confidential so that a crew member who
might feel reticent about bringing up certain issues would
be quite confident of putting down what they really think
       on that survey?
       A. It is the same reason that most surveys are
confidential, if it is internal, that obviously if people
want to say things that are maybe controversial, with no
fear of retribution, they are more likely to put it in,
whether that, you know, worry is real or not.

  Q. What is your present position?
       A. Operations Manager.

  Q. For?
       A. Anglia and some other central group, but that side of
       the country.

  Q. What is the percentage in that survey -- if you ask people
the question, "Do you get paid for all the hours you work",
what percentage would concern you that there might be
problems nationally with people being paid for the hours
they worked: three per cent, 10 per cent, 20 per cent?
       A. What percentage would?

  Q. What percentage of people saying in that survey, in this
confidential survey, saying they did not get paid for the
       hours they worked?
       A. Any per cent saying they were not going to get paid
       would concern me.

  Q. You do not know what that percentage is in question?
       A. Not off the top of my head, no.

MR. MORRIS: (Pause) Sorry, we are seeing -- we are going to
       move on.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Have you many more questions to ask?

MR. MORRIS: I have not, because we have dealt with the crew
       turnover.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not need any explanation. I am merely
enquiring. Do you have any more, Ms. Steel?

MS. STEEL: I am not entirely sure. I mean, the questions
I have left are based on the performance reviews, but .....

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We are going to finish Mr. Davis comfortably
this afternoon then, are we not?
