Day 272 - 02 Jul 96 - Page 47

  Q. But you were not there?
       A. I was not there, no.

  Q. If Mr. Nicholson has said that there were a few people
there late in the afternoon on the 16th October 1987, you
would have no reason to dispute it, would you? Maybe not
       from London Greenpeace at all?
       A. No, maybe not from London Greenpeace. They would not
have been from London Greenpeace, no.

  Q. Let us move then, if we may, forward a few pages to tab
       27.
       A. Yes.

  Q. For the moment I would like you to look at the second
paragraph. Now, this is a hand-out or leaflet. Again it
is probably an A5 one, is it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Perhaps part of a mail out during 1988. It is for the 1988
       protest, is it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Look at the beginning of the second paragraph please?
       A. Yes.

  Q. "Last year's World Day of Action was easily the most
successful yet, with every major town and city in England
and Wales having at least one picket."
       A. Yes.

  Q. That was the year of the great hurricane, was it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So if this is true, people throughout the country had no
problem turning out in response to your instigation, had
       they, in 1987?
       A. That is true, but there is a point to be made there,
and that is that when we called for the World Day, pickets
on the World Day of Action, October 16th, very often people
would hold their demonstration not on that day but the
nearest Saturday to it, for instance, or even another day
around that week. So when we say -- when it says World Day
of Action here, what it really means is on or about the
16th, not necessarily the 16th itself.

  Q. So are you saying there was a demonstration at East
Finchley not on the 16th itself because of the hurricane,
but maybe Saturday the 17th, or Monday the 19th?
       A. No.

  Q. And, if not, why not?
       A. No, there was not, because if -- there was not a
London Greenpeace demonstration there. If there had have
been, I would have known about it.

  Q. Now, you say there was no demonstration either at East
Finchley on 16th October 1988. Actually you said that this
       morning too?
