4 I will ask you just to cast your eye over it. I do not
5 know how recently you have seen this but just remind
6 yourself of it.
7 A. Yes.

9 Q. Perhaps I will ask you this question: Do you know the date
10 of this plan, roughly speaking, or not? It has not got a
11 date on it. That is why I ask that.
12 A. No, from what I can see on this brief examination it is
13 a current plan.

15 Q. I was going to ask you whether as between what you see here
16 -- I believe I should ask you this, you recently went to
17 Jarrett, in fact, last week, I think?
18 A. I did.

21 A. Yes.

23 Q. Is this what is in existence now?
24 A. Subject to minor alterations, yes.

26 Q. What I was going to ask you is what, if any, differences
27 are there between what we see here and what you saw when
28 you went there in August 1993 for the first time?
29 A. Subject again to minor alterations which, in fact, are
30 always going on in a meat plant, this is as the plant has
31 been certainly for the past 18 months, to the best of my
32 knowledge.

34 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Perhaps one way of approaching it would
35 be to ask Mr. Bennett if during your examination-in-chief
36 you are on a particular operation, or, when cross-examined,
37 Ms. Steel or Mr. Morris is asking about a particular
38 operation, if at any stage in your recollection it has been
39 different in any respect to what appears on the plan to try
40 to remember to tell us, Mr. Bennett?
41 A. Yes.

43 MR. RAMPTON: Try, Mr. Bennett. But, my Lord, of course, I am
44 going to focus principally on three weeks in April in 1994.

48 MR. RAMPTON: I think you said a moment ago that all plants were
49 always making alterations of one kind or another?
50 A. Yes, that is true.

52 Q. Are those all related to food hygiene or may they relate to
53 employee welfare, or safety or what?
54 A. It could be employee welfare, it could be safety, it
55 could be a requirement of the enforcement authority, but
56 most likely it will be for production efficiency reasons.

58 Q. You have, I think you have already told us, a wide
59 experience of abattoirs of various kinds?
60 A. Yes, I have.
