Day 134 - 13 Jun 95 - Page 75

Q. Are they broadly the same?
A. Many are the same, yes.

Q. If you look at the first 10, for example.
A. Yes, a lot of those, well, it may just be there are
things like wording that we changed. On 12 that is
different, for example.

Q. I do not know whether these questions are ranked by the
Company or by the management consultants in order of
importance, are they?
A. No. I think they are designed to be fairly randomly
distributed and then they are grouped by subjects as you
saw in the report back.

Q. Yes.
A. So, broadly, they are the same.

Q. We do not actually have a copy of the English questionnaire
in our papers at the moment although maybe we could get
one. The second question, and I am going up the page, do
you see it says:

"How to respond" -- and this is an instruction to the
respondent -- "after reading the statement and mark an X in
one box that best describes how you feel about the
statement annexing the box tabled question mark indicates
that sometimes you agree, sometimes you do not, or that you
do not understand the question, or that you are too knew in
McDonald's to have an opinion."

Is that the way you interpret the question mark in this
country or are there some differences?
A. No, it is the same in this country.

Q. Finally on in this sheet, you see it says "Instructions:
Opinion surveys are to help us to understand how you feel
about McDonald's and the people you work with. To help us,
please complete this questionnaire. It is completely
anonymous." Is it completely anonymous in this country?
A. Yes.

Q. In the light of those answers, and the information you see
on this questionnaire, and what you know of the know the
crew opinion survey generally, do you have any reason
yourself to suppose that a discontented crew member might
answer "Yes" to a question when in truth he or she meant
"No"?
A. No, none whatsoever. I cannot see any reason why they
would not respond. They are given an equal opportunity to
respond to either agree or disagree.

Q. Do you think the provision for anonymity is important in
this regard?
A. Yes, I do.

Q. If you could put that file away, please, and pick up the
file 12 and turn, please, to tab 29. Here, Ms. Mead, for
once in my life I am on a voyage of discovery. Page 672,
