Day 086 - 09 Feb 95 - Page 31
Q. You mentioned about having some Prohibition Notices served
when that was your area of responsibility. Was that on
equipment or areas that had been checked and passed OK by
company checks or was it on something that the company did
not check on?
A. I said, I know I said three, I could only think of one,
but Prohibition Notices did happen. Could you just repeat
what it is that you are trying to ask me?

Q. Did the Prohibition Notice relate to a piece of equipment
or area that had been checked by the company in its regular
checks, or was this something that the company did not
check at all?
A. The one that I recollect was a backup area, a trash
area, but undoubtedly Prohibition Notices would have been
served on us on areas that we have checked.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think the question may be whether it was
something which you knew of, or should have known of, but
thought was all right or where, for instance, an accident
which has not happened before draws everyone's attention to
a potential danger. Can you help as to that?
A. I cannot think of specific examples, but I would say
that, you know, a Prohibition Notice may often lead us to
an area that we have not covered off or give us a different
way of thinking about doing something.

Q. Yes. The health and safety officer from his or her aspect,
as an anxiety which ----
A. They come with a different set of eyes and they may
look at it in a particular situation and think what they
saw at that moment in time was dangerous or needed
rectifying, and may choose to serve a Prohibition Notice on
them. To refer back to Jill, I am sure she could come up
with a list of ones we have had served and give you the
reasons around those.

MS. STEEL: Just while we have this bundle open, can you turn
to page 545 again -- we were on this yesterday?
A. Calibration check list again?

Q. Yes, if you could get down yellow VII?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Tab 18, is it?

MS. STEEL: Yes, it is. Can you also get yellow VII?
A. Yellow VII? Is there a page number in yellow VII?

Q. Yes, if you could turn to page 95, please? It is the
calibration check list. In the memo under 10-1 patties, it
indicate a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit. That is
the gas one, and the calibration check list, you said, was
gas as well?
A. Yes.

Q. Quite a lot of those temperatures are under 350 on the
check list?
A. Yes.

Q. Was the temperature also raised after the Preston incident?
