Day 195 - 04 Dec 95 - Page 16

All the crews should have finished at midnight.

I remember somebody actually having their hours cut but
I can't remember his name. However, I do remember that
Simon Gibney was the Manager in charge of the time
schedules and he gave a cut to this man because he didn't
stay after the shift ended. He was under 18 and his hours
were cut from", I think -----
       A. It should be 40 to 20 hours.

  Q. "... a week and he left". Sorry, I will just read that all
again: "He was under 18 and his hours were cut from 40 to
20 hours a week and he left.

Simon Warr was threatened with a cut of hours. He was
under 18. I do not known when this was. Simon told me
       about this".
       A. This is Simon Gibney -- no, Simon Warr himself told me.

  Q. Sorry. "He said that he had not stayed on after midnight
       one day.

       2. No prior warning. 95 per cent of the time we were not
given any prior notice. A warning was given to me in
       August 1987 by Trudie Jones".
       A. I am talking about warning in the sense that he
notified me about a late close in advance.

  Q. So that is a rare case when they did notify you?
       A. Yes, that is right.

  Q. "I don't have any dates and this didn't refer to me because
I wasn't on the telephone so they couldn't ring me to come
       in".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Could you just pause there? I have been
given certain dates as to when people were Managers. Can
you remember August 1987 who was Manager then, the Store
       Manager?
       A. The Store Manager, as far as I can remember, Mark
       Davies was the Store Manager.

  Q. Still then?
       A. Still there; I think, I think very shortly after I left
or just maybe before I left, he was promoted. I am not
       exactly sure.

  Q. I do not think one need be too arch about it. The
information I have is that Mr. Davies went to be Area
Supervisor and Mr. Coton came to be Store Manager about a
month before you left at about the beginning of August and
you say you left about the end of August 1987. Does that
accord with your recollection or not?
       A. That might be correct, but at the time I was actually
taking quite a few days of leave to arrange for my course
in London and look for accommodation in London, so I was
not directly in touch with what was going on and neither
was I really interested by then in the specific running,
specifically in the running of the store.
