Q. Are you aware that Sun Valley stock over the recommended
stocking density?
A. I am certainly not aware of that.

Q. You are not aware of that. They do.
A. Well, I think you must ask Mr. Pattison that.

Q. If it is true, are you going to discontinue your supplies
from Sun Valley?
A. Well, our normal policy with any supplier, if something
is wrong and proved to be wrong (and I do not know that
this is; this might be just your opinion, for all I know),
if something is wrong and proved to be wrong, then we will
give the supplier a warning and if they did not correct the
situation we would discontinue purchasing from them.

Q. So have you ever given Sun Valley a warning?
A. No. I was not aware there was a problem until -- you
say there is one; I do not know that is true.

Q. Just what checks are you making to ensure that this animal
welfare policy is complied with?
A. We do not actually make the checks. The checks are
made by the government health inspectors and the veterinary
officers. If there was a problem, I am sure they would
have told us and we would certainly deal with it if that
were the case.

Q. I thought you said Barbara Crawford made checks?
A. She makes unannounced visits.

Q. Right, but she has not taken the trouble to find out
whether they are over stocked?
A. Well, nobody has reported to her that there is a
problem.

Q. Who would report to her that there was a problem?
A. The government inspectors that visit the farms.

Q. The government inspectors. What, if there is a problem
they would phone up McDonald's and say: "Hey, your
suppliers are not doing a proper job"?
A. No, they would certainly tell Sun Valley originally and
then make it known to us if nothing was done about it.

Q. Who, Sun Valley would or the government?
A. No, the health inspectors, the government inspectors.

Q. Is this standard practice for government inspectors to
inform all the people who purchase the supplier's meat if
there are any problems?
A. Well, not, but it is not standard practice to find the
kind of problems that you are referring to. That is why I
am very surprised that -- I do not know where you got your
information from, but I am very surprised at that.

Q. From Mr. Gregory, from the evidence of Mr. Gregory, who is
McDonald's expert witness.
A. Well, I have not seen that, that particular evidence.
