Day 206 - 22 Jan 96 - Page 58
MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- for the purposes of your
cross-examination?

MS. STEEL: I do not think it is particularly difficult for the
witness to give a one word answer, "yes" or "no".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, I am taking it to be "no", because he
is not agreeing with "serious", but he has said "worrying",
which may be sufficient for the purposes of your
cross-examination.

MR. MORRIS: Right. (To the witness): So you do not think they
can be described as serious?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If I can guess what you are getting at, I do
not think for your purposes it makes any difference.

MR. MORRIS: Right. (To the witness): Now, where would a
letter like this, having been received by the Store
Manager, where would it be sent? Would it be shown to the
Supervisor and sent to Regional Office, and that kind of
thing?
A. I presume it having been received by the Store Manager,
he would have certainly presented it or discussed it with
the Supervisor.

Q. Where would a copy of this letter be sent to?
A. As I say, I do not actually know if a copy -- what
department a copy would be sent to. It may go to the
personnel department.

Q. Would that be kind of standard practice for something like
this?
A. I could not honestly answer you that "yes" or "no",
but -----

Q. Right, OK. Do you think it is irresponsible of your
Company that employs you -- your Store Manager, in fact --
to not discuss this letter that affects your job and
affects you, as part of the management team, as a criticism
about management matters, that this was kept from you and
not discussed with fellow Managers by the store Manager; do
you not think that is irresponsible; or is that the way
things happen at McDonald's all the time?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Ask one question at a time.

MR. MORRIS: Do not you think that is irresponsible?
A. I do not deem the matter that a Store Manager received
and he may have felt it more appropriate to deal with it
with the area Supervisor -- perhaps he felt that the
Manager, you know, more appropriate that way.

Q. You do not think he should discuss it with people who
actually know what is going on, i.e., other Managers?
A. I would say that most of the things that are in this
letter would be a matter for the store Managers ultimately
to resolve with the area Supervisor.

Q. But do you not work as one big happy family, your
