Day 153 - 12 Jul 95 - Page 66

MR. RAMPTON: You are pushing at an open door there, as far as I
       am concerned.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You are asking unnecessary questions of a
witness who certainly is not assisting your case on this
       point.

MS. STEEL (To the witness): But it also applies to electric
shocks, does it not? If people do not have any serious or
anything that might be lasting effect from an electric
shock, they probably would not put it in the Accident Book?
       A. No, I said with an electric shock they would put it in
the Accident Book, because I think most people through
common sense realise that an electric shock could be more
       serious.

  Q. The shocks that you were referring to, I mean, you said you
were not aware of the bun toaster giving electric shocks
for six consecutive Saturdays, but if it was happening --
would you accept that it might have been happening once a
       month or something like that?
       A. If it happened on any more than a one off occasion, and
even on a one off occasion we would shut the equipment down
and get an engineer in to fix it and make sure -- you know,
find out where the electric shock was coming from. I mean,
we would at times work on these pieces of equipment as
       Managers.

  Q. Do you recall getting in the engineers for the bun toaster?
       A. Not specifically. I can only recall what the procedure
would have been and the likely sort of practice that we
       would employ at that time.

  Q. Which would be to either repair it yourself as a Manager or
to get a crew member to do it?
       A. If it was an electrical thing we would generally -- if
it was any more than changing a plug or changing a bulb on
a toaster, then we did not have anybody in the restaurant
specifically who had enough knowledge to do any more than
that, therefore, we would call out a local electrician or
the service company, First in Service.

  Q. So if the shock was caused by wiring coming loose in a
plug, or something like that, then a crew member might be
instructed to sort it out themselves?
       A. More likely a Manager.

  Q. Right, but it could have been crew?
       A. I believe at the time that there would have been one
specific crew member who may have done, who had experience
of that who may have dealt with plugs and things like
       that.

  Q. You were aware of Mr. Alimi changing plugs and things like
       that?
       A. He may have done. I cannot specifically remember it,
       but he may have done.

  Q. There may have been other crew as well?
       A. It was not like, you know, we just went: "You go and
