Day 093 - 28 Feb 95 - Page 31

       A. Again there is, depending on the people, you could have
       10 people, eight people.

  Q. How many birds would go on each truck?
       A. Four.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Four what?
       A. Oh, truck, I am sorry.

  Q. Yes.
       A. Four per cage.

MS. STEEL: Four per cage. How many cages are there on the
       truck?
       A. I do not know. I have not counted.

  Q. How many birds would there be per truck, roughly?
       A. I have not counted.

  Q. How many trucks are there for a typical shed? How many
truck loads do you have to take away?
       A. The sheds typically do not have the trucks, the
corporations do, and in this case Tysons have their own
trucks that come by and pick up the chickens from the
       farms.

  Q. But how many truck loads would it normally take?
       A. Whatever is needed depending on the farm. I do not
       know. I have not counted.

  Q. Are you sure you have watched this process happening?
       A. Ms. Steel, when I said that I have watched it, I am
perfectly aware that I am under oath.

  Q. On the occasion when you remember watching it can you tell
us roughly how many trucks turned up and roughly how many
       people were catching the birds?
       A. Probably anywhere from three to five trucks, what
I remember. Again, I did not count them. I was not
       thinking about that.

  Q. On that occasion there was how many people?
       A. About 10.

  Q. About 10. What is the system? Are the crates driven by
forklift into the shed, or are they cages that remain on
the back of the lorry and the chickens are taken out to the
       lorry and put on outside?
       A. They have both, depending.

  Q. They have both?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Which was the one that you saw?
       A. What we saw was the driving the chickens towards a ramp
and they put them in cages like this, and the cages would
be in, the truck would be moved. It was not a forklift.

  Q. So the cages remained on the back of the lorry?
       A. Yes.
