1 a time and how the advertising is targeted. So make sure
you and Mr. Preston are directing your minds to the same
2 question. Presumably the content of advertisement- I do
not know- can effect the targeting whatever age of people
     3 are watching?

4 MR. MORRIS: Maybe we can get into more detail later on, but
let us say there is no dispute over the 20 to 25 per cent
5 that is targeted at children- that is what you said. And
you are encouraging children to eat at McDonald's,
     6 basically?
              A. I am encouraging them to come and enjoy McDonald's,
     7 yes, most definitely.

8 Q. Right. Some people have said that this is irresponsible,
that children are not able to understand nutrition.
9 A. Yes, some people have said that, yes. That is why the
have parents who can help to decide for them what is right
10 or wrong or good or bad for them, that is where the
parents come into the equation, saying Yes or saying No.
    11
         Q. When you advertise to children, do you show products in
    12 some of the adverts?
              A. We may very well have. In the happy meal commercials.
    13
         Q. What is a happy meal?
14 A. Regular hamburger, small french fries, soft drink,
usually served in cardboard box which can become a play
    15 thing.

16 Q. What is the soft drink?
              A. Whatever they want; Coca Cola, Diet Coca Cola, orange-
    17 their choice.

    18 Q. Milk shake?
              A. Not normally a milk shake although the stores will
19 oftentimes substitute a shake for a soft drink depending
on the wish of the party.
20 Q. Just one more thing on the this sort of area. When
you first opened your store in Woolwich you were the
    21 manager?
              A. I was, yes.
    22
         Q. On the first day did people come over from America to take
23 part, was there a bit of an event?
              A. On the very first day, no, there was no- one from
24 America here bar myself who had moved here, the American
joint venture partner for the company, the two other
25 Americans who were here dealing with operations and other
functions in the company, day one October 1st 1974, the
26 answer to your question is No.

27 Q. Did you have people from McDonald's who came into the
store, I mean who were there at the store- apart from the
28 actual staff were there ----
              A. On the first day?
    29
         Q. From the company on the first day, was it a bit of an
    30 event?
              A. Well, it wasn't much of an event; no- one came in, we
