Day 086 - 09 Feb 95 - Page 56
passed it in your training period.

Q. So you would be learning while studying; you would be
learning while doing the job?
A. Yes. We find that is the best way, on-job training.

Q. How long does it take a person to -- for example, if you
start at a station, you are a new person, you are put on
one of the food production stations, when do they usually
take the test, that OCL test? Is it three months later or
six months or a week?
A. No. OCL is not a test. It is someone watching you
doing the station and verifying that you are doing as you
were taught. So the OCL is a verification.

Q. When is that usually done, how often?
A. Those normally would be done -- the first day that you
are doing work in an area you would normally have one done
then just to see how you are doing, but you would have to
pass one to get your star or your badge to show that you
had.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When do they ask the questions on the back of
the form, at the same time?
A. There are questions on the back of the OCL, but those
are not the only questions that are asked. That is a
formal test that you do as well which will be done -- you
will normally be trained on one area, so you will have,
maybe you would do a unit class as it is called before you
do an OCL or you may do it shortly after.

Q. You watch the person doing the job?
A. Right.

Q. And you make the entries on front of the form?
A. That is right.

Q. When do you turn it over and start quizzing them?
A. You will then go to them and run through and say how
they were doing. You would flip over and you would ask the
10 questions on the back. It is a very good and practical
training aid.

MR. MORRIS: On average, how long does it take to get to your
first star?
A. On average three weeks for a star.

Q. Three weeks and that means you basically have got on top of
the procedures for a particular station?
A. You are probably on top of it before then, but that is
the verification of it.

Q. That is when it has been verified?
A. Totally and completely verified, yes.

MS. STEEL: Are you aware that in April 1991 Kingston
Magistrates fined McDonald's £750 with £1,500 costs for
serving an under-cooked McChicken sandwich to a customer?
A. No.
