Day 164 - 26 Sep 95 - Page 45

the notes refer to -- well, to be honest I just think it is
quite plain that all the notes are referring to what went
on at the meetings, what they say went at the meetings.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Give me an example, because all I have done
is glanced, I will not pretend to have read them through,
at where they stop and then start again?

MS. STEEL: If you turn to the notes of Mr. Bishop ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Remind me where I find that?

MS. STEEL: I think they are in yellow bundle 2 tab 8 because
they are the new ones. They should be at the back.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: For example, on the notes of 24th May he
says, "I attended this week's meeting". Then there is a
paragraph there and then a whole blanked out bit. Then it
says, "A few minutes later Jane arrived." Then on the
following page, well, the paragraph at the bottom of the
page, the first page goes over to the second page --
incidentally what is written we consider to be absolute
rubbish but that is by the by -- underneath the two lines
at the top of the second page there is a blanked out space
and then it says: "The only other item that received any
attention was a red invoice from British Telecom." It is
clear there that he has been writing about what has been
going on at the meeting. Then following on from that there
is another blanked out passage, and it says: "At the end of
this phase of the meeting Helen She of the Bank Account
arrived." Clearly that was talking about what was going
on at the meeting, the bit that was blanked out.

As I say, if you go through the notes of 14th June and the
other meetings, all the blanks, it is quite clear, are
talking about what is going on at the meetings, well, what
they say is going on at the meetings. For example, the
notes of 14th June, I do not know whether you have them?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: It starts with: "I arrived at Caledonian Road
offices at 1940 hours", and then there is a massive big
blank. Then there is a brief paragraph about the beginning
of the meeting and McDonald's. Then there is another
passage that has been blanked out. Then there is something
about the Group's building society account. Then there is
an absolutely massive blanked out part. Then it goes on to
say: "Also during the course of the evening a telephone
call was received from the musicians' union." Clearly the
correspondence received and the thing about McDonald's
Restaurants and the World Wildlife Fund and the Group's
building society account and phone call from the musicians'
union were not the only things that went on that night.
The rest of the notes quite clearly must be about
Mr. Bishop's version of what happened at that meeting.

There is then a paragraph that is blanked out after the bit
