with, which it might be, then that is absolutely right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You mean nearer 30 per cent?
       A. Nearer 30 per cent full-time, my Lord.

MR. RAMPTON: I would like to move, if I may, Mr. Nicholson,
directly on to the employment of young people. For that
purpose, I would like you to extract a pink volume. It
would help you if get pink XI, XII and XIII all at one go.
Please take in that order, XI first. Mr. Nicholson, it
will help if you put away the yellow file you have there
and replace it with volume XI. Turn, please, to tab 3
which I can tell you or you can see is the Crew Handbook
which I can tell you, looking at page 172 (which I do not
ask you to do) was published in June 1989?
       A. Yes.

  Q. First of all, tell us what is this Crew Handbook?
       A. The Crew Handbook sets out the conditions of service
for hourly paid workers and each hourly paid worker gets a
       copy.

  Q. We are going to take a long look at it in due course,
Mr. Nicholson, or a longer look, but for present purposes
I would like you to turn to page 153 which is a stamped
figure in this tab, it also has 44?
       A. Yes, I have that.

  Q. It is headed, is it: "Some Legal and Company
       Requirements"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Then over the page -- I am not concerned with 1, 2 or 3 --
we have 4 and 5, do you see those?
       A. Yes, I do.

  Q. "Under 18: For employees aged under 18, the following are
Company requirements: (a) There should be a minimum
period of 11 hours between shifts. (b) No young person
should work past midnight". Was there, in fact, any
distinction made at that date between males and females so
far as that requirement is concerned?
       A. Yes. The (a) was the same.

  Q. (a) was?
       A. The same.

  Q. (a) was the same?
       A. Yes. But (b), females, if I remember correctly, did
not work past 10 o'clock at night.

  Q. And the boys could go on to midnight?
       A. To midnight, yes.

  Q. Then it says: "Minimum age. Please find below a
clarification of McDonald's Policy and legal requirement in
       the employment of young persons.

McDonald's does not employ anyone under school leaving
       age"?
