Day 206 - 22 Jan 96 - Page 52

  Q. Is standard, it is a standard rate, yes?
       A. Yes. We are given flexibility in which to or we do
operate that flexibility in the restaurant.

  Q. Is there any example you can give where you, say, added on
£2.00 an hour to any worker ever in your experience ---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We know that -----

MR. MORRIS: -- because they had mortgage problems or ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We know that did not happen. It is not a
       realistic thing to put.

MR. MORRIS: All right. Seeing as it is given that people are
not given extra money when they need it, are you saying,
therefore, McDonald's take advantage of people's need for
money by scheduling them long shifts and many days in a row
because they are willing to do it?
       A. No, I do not think that we do take advantage of the
       members of staff.

  Q. You said that you would check the previous week how many
shifts somebody had done, or which days they had worked, so
you would not be scheduling people too many days in a row.
How many days in a row would you say would be acceptable to
you as a person who did the schedules?
       A. I would try not to aim at past seven days of continuous
       scheduling, I would say.

  Q. You would try not to, so sometimes you have scheduled
people more than seven days in a row, have you?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you ever remember anyone working more than
seven days in a row; if you do, tell us.
       A. I cannot honestly remember scheduling someone more than
       seven days in a row.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, I am just trying to move on to John Gore. I
am going to miss out John Gore and Mike Stokes. Graham
Picking, you have a recollection of him, yes?
       A. Yes, I still see Graham in the restaurant occasionally,
       usually once a month.

  Q. Do you remember that some weeks he got very few hours
       scheduled for him?
       A. I do not actually recall what his scheduled hours were.

  Q. Right. He was a full-timer, yes, do you remember that?
       A. He was a full-time crew member, yes.

  Q. Coming on to Jane Jenard or Girdlestone on page 4, what is
       she called now?
       A. I do believe she has now changed her name to Jane
Jenard and previously was known as Jane Girdlestone.

  Q. Right. Do you recall that she complained about not getting
       weekends off?
       A. I do not recall any complaint.
