Day 155 - 14 Jul 95 - Page 48
come back to work -- that is obviously an extreme case --
what would you do?

MR. RAMPTON: This is fantasy.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, we must get to the point, Mr. Morris. It
is not handicapping you if you get directly to the point.

MS. STEEL: If someone did not come to you in response to say:
"Hey, I need to get my uniform out of my locker and there
is a strange lock on it", you would go and take both locks
off the locker eventually, yes?
A. Yes, with the individual.

Q. If they did not come you and you did not know who they
were, you would not forever two locks on the locker, would
you?
A. That is correct.

Q. So you would go and take it off yourself?
A. Take, what, my locker off?

Q. Take your lock off and the other person's lock off so that
you could use the locker again?
A. Over, you know, a period of two, three months, then,
yes.

Q. You would leave it that long, would you?
A. Yes, because some people actually go away for two or
three months study leave.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have a locker which is not being used
during that period. It does not matter where they are.
I thought you wanted the lockers to be available for
everyone's use?
A. Yes, but if it is only one locker, it is not really an
issue because we had -- if you had 140 lockers or 120
lockers, the most staff we ever had at any one time was
Saturday afternoon when there would be about 42, 43
people. So that still left 60 odd lockers absolutely free.

MS. STEEL: So there were enough lockers for staff to have one
each if they wanted to?
A. If they wanted to, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Why should they not have one each then?
A. Because over a period of time there were some people
that were leaving uniforms in there which, as you can
appreciate, once uniforms have been worn and left in there
for a week, it was not a very pleasant smell.

MR. MORRIS: But if a locker was locked up and you could not get
access to it, you would wait 3 months? If they left fruit
in it that was rotting and smelling?
A. If they had done that, you would have noticed.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The difficulty I am having at the moment is
that if there are all that number of lockers and certain
people on the payroll, what on earth is wrong letting
people bag a locker as their on and put their own lock on
