Day 192 - 27 Nov 95 - Page 27

       A. Pardon me?

  Q. When did you first hear about some employees apparently
wanting to pull out of being union members?
       A. I imagine it was the very, very end of September.
I believe Michelle called me. We had, Rui and I had signed
her up one morning. I do not -- I think there was a couple
of days in between that, and she called me for her card
       back, or something.  I mean, I do not keep the cards;
I give them to Rui, so that Rui can, you know, fill out the
certification forms. She asked me for them back, and
I told her I could not give them to her, but maybe she
should call Rui -- you know, I gave her his number -- if
she wanted to talk to him about it, because, I mean, it is
out of my hands once I do not have the cards, right.

  Q. So, when you say it is out of your hands, what was the
process? You give the cards to -----
       A. Yes. We sign them up; people would give the cards to
me; and then Rui would drop down for, you know, once or
twice a week or whatever, and take the cards that had been
       signed.

  Q. He has the cards. At the end of September, what happened
then? What did he do with the cards? What was the union
       doing?
       A. They applied for automatic certification under Bill 40.

  Q. Is that something simple where they just go down and plonk
       the cards on the table?
       A. No. Like, I do not really know the procedure but, as
far as I know, it is very long procedure. I remember them
saying something that they had to make seven copies of
everything; you know, they had to make sure that they had
outlined the exact borders of the town, or whatever, like.
I had never actually seen the application but, from what
I heard from Rui, that, you know, it takes a day or two to
       complete.

  Q. I think the way we will deal with this is that we will deal
with allegations by Miss Wetli and Miss Iurilla at the end
of specific allegations they may have made. It is just too
       complicated, otherwise.

So, the application was made, I think it is common ground,
is it on the Saturday, or -----
       A. It was a Friday, October 1st.

  Q. Friday -- after some preparation by the union?
       A. Yes; after a day or two, I would imagine, of
       preparation.

  Q. You said that a few days before, the notice from the Labour
       Board was sent to Cam?
       A. A few days before what, sorry?

  Q. The notice from the Labour Board was sent to Cam, which was
       when?
       A. It would have been after our application for
       certification.
