Day 159 - 20 Jul 95 - Page 38

       A. Oh, yes, I think so, yes.

  Q. That is one of the reasons to do it?
       A. Oh, no, no, I do not think so. I think McDonald's are
very interested in children and the senior citizens, so
that is why they have coffee mornings so they can come and
have a cup of coffee and meet and make friends there. They
have made many a friends at my store.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do they get their coffee rather cheaper?
       A. It is free, totally free. They can have a top up after
-- and tea now. We do coffee and tea, although it is
       still called a "coffee" morning.

MR. MORRIS: Do the people who come to the coffee mornings
usually buy some food as well?
       A. Not always, no.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If they buy it, they pay ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- whatever the normal price is?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Is the store usually quiet on Thursday mornings
       when you do that?
       A. It was -- we did not pick it for the quietness. What
we picked it for was because I went round to the post
office and asked, you know, what was the busiest day for
the people to get their pensions and they said Thursday
       morning.

  Q. That is when they have got the money in their pocket, kind
       of thing?
       A. No, that is why we thought we would have it on a
Thursday morning so there would be more pensioners. We did
try it on Sunday, but it did not work out, apparently.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So that is the day they can go to the post
       office and -----
       A. Yes, and then they come in or come in first and then go
into the post office, whichever is best for them, sort of
       thing.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do ordinary customers have any precedence if
they come in? I know if you go and get your hair cut at a
certain time of week you find that senior citizens can have
it cut for a pound, but if you walk in you jump the queue
if you are paying the normal price?
       A. No.

  Q. Is that what happens at McDonald's?
       A. No, what happens, they come and sit down and I serve
them. I have coffee pots and that and I serve them, but if
there is a customer who has bought a coffee and I will ask
him if he would like a refill, they certainly get it or a
       tea.

MR. MORRIS: When they buy the rest of the food, if they want
any other things, do they have to queue up like everybody
