Day 208 - 24 Jan 96 - Page 56
than 45 hours per week?
A. Yes.

Q. You know you have worked at least 45 hours, anyway, per
week; you cannot remember working more than that?
A. I do not think I have worked 45 hours, to be honest,
not to my knowledge. I cannot remember working over, say,
40, probably. I would 100 per cent know that I have never
worked 45 hours, I would be 100 per cent sure of that.

Q. Breaks used to be paid, did they not?
A. What, for Managers?

Q. For crew?
A. So far as I know, breaks have never been paid for
crew.

Q. Since you have been there?
A. Yes.

Q. You say: "It would be fairer for McDonald's to pay an
enhanced hourly rate on Sunday." Do you mean something
like time and a half?
A. That would be nice, yes.

Q. It would be "fairer"; that is the word you use?
A. Well, yes; if that is what I said, yes.

Q. Would you say that it is fairer that people get paid time
and a half for anti-social hours, basically?
A. Well, I would say for Sundays. Not many people really
like to work Sundays, so I would say it would be nice. It
has always been more trouble to get crew for a Sunday. We
usually get enough, but it is always hassle to get crew
working for us Sunday. They would probably be more willing
do if they got paid time and a half.

Q. You said on the next point, under "clock cards", that you
always check your payslips, you never found an error. Is
that how you check to see whether there is any errors in
your clocking in and out?
A. Well, I check my clock -- I do not check my clock card;
I check my hours on my wage slip. When I get home, I write
what hours I did and then I compare it to the fortnight, to
make sure they correspond.

Q. Is that the way, generally, you see people check?
A. I do not know. I do not know what other people do.
I do not know if people check.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yours are very easy to check, because they
are the same hours week in and week out?
A. That is right. It is probably within a quarter to half
an hour pay packet (sic), yes, it would be the same.

Q. That extra period is if you clock in a little early one day
and clock out a little late one day, for one reason or
another?
A. Yes, yes.
