Day 261 - 12 Jun 96 - Page 24

  MS. STEEL: 13th September?

  MR. RAMPTON: Second paragraph:

"The meeting followed the usual pattern. During letter
reading time, one such concerning McDonald's was read out.
I managed to purloin this letter", et cetera; and we have
been through that. I would like you to pay attention to
       the next bit.

"Several references were made during the meeting to various
pickets that have been organised by groups other than
London Greenpeace for 16th October World Food Day. These
appear to be mainly concerned with picketing McDonald's
restaurants. However, the only definite information gained
of these other activities concerned the restaurant at
Dalston which is being picketed by one of the Direct Action
Movement branches at 18.00 hours on the 16th. Charlie is a
       member of North London DAM."

       Then you have written this:

"London Greenpeace itself agreed at this meeting to picket
at either the Charing Cross McDonald's or one of the Oxford
Street branches from 12 noon until 14.00 hours, followed by
a picket of the main headquarters of McDonald's from 14.00
to 16.00 hours. This is to be followed by an evening
picket at probably the Tottenham Road restaurant. Final
details are to be decided before the actual day
       16th October 1990."

Again, I ask the question, Mr. Bishop: did any of those
present, when those plans were made, dissent from them,
saying, "It is a bad idea, it is a waste of time"?
       A. No, they did not.

  Q. Then, if you please turn to page 203, I hope you will find
the notes for the meeting on 20th September. They start,
actually, on 202. This is a meeting, as we see from
page 202, attended by, amongst others, Ms. Steel,
       Mr. Gravett and Mr. Morris.

Please turn to page 203. The last sentence of the first
paragraph reads: "Helen Steel is organising the printing of
leaflets for the Greenpeace fair. While Paul Gravett again
stated that he would have the McDonald's leaflets ready in
time for the 16th", and you have put those last words in
       quotes. Do you see that?
       A. Yes, I have.

  Q. Did anybody at the meeting say, "Paul, do not bother, we
are no longer interested in a McDonald's leaflet"?
       A. No, they did not.

  Q. "It is a waste of time and money"?
       A. No, they did not say that.

  Q. You go on: "Charlie wanted the group to invest £350 in a
photocopier to be shared at Haringey and Islington Direct
