Day 192 - 27 Nov 95 - Page 46
MR. MORRIS: OK. (To the witness): The first thing is that
Sabina Iurillo says that she attended a meeting on
5th August, 1993, at your house, and you have said it is
19th August. Could you be wrong about that; could it have
been 5th August?
A. No, because I was in Kilbear Provincial Park for the
first week of August.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Sorry, you must speak up again. Try and
speak towards me rather than Mr. Morris.
A. OK. I was at Kilbear Provincial Park, which is about
four or five hours north of where I live.

MR. MORRIS: Was that your camping holiday, or something?
A. Yes.

Q. She said that you spent three weeks pressurising her to
sign a union card. Is that correct?
A. No, it is not, because I did not even sign her up. The
way I understand it, Chris Morrison was at the second union
meeting which took place on 25th August, and he brought me
a card on 26th August; and I believe the only person that
he brought -- like, the only person he signed up was
Sabina Iurillo. So -----

Q. When was the first time you physically had the cards in
your hands?
A. The first time that we were given the cards by the
union?

Q. Yes, by the union.
A. 25th August, the second meeting with the director of
organising -- because he is the one that gave us the cards
that allowed us to go ahead to sign people up.

Q. She said that at the meeting -- which you say was on
19th August -- that the union said the day ladies would be
made full-time staff and that all full-time staff would get
a pension and dental treatment. Did you say that?
A. No.

Q. What is she alluding to? Do you know what she is alluding
to there?
A. No. I have never heard that before, actually.

Q. She said she signed a union card eventually because she was
fed up with being badgered by Sarah and Chris. Did she
indicate to you why she signed a union card?
A. No.

Q. Because you did not sign the card?
A. I did not sign it.

Q. OK. Had you been badgering her?
A. No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When you say you did not sign it, do you mean
you did not get her to sign it, or do you have to
countersign it?
A. You have to witness the card as she signs it.
