Day 277 - 10 Jul 96 - Page 42

       A. I really do not see what this has got to do with
       anything in this case.

  Q. It has to do with the credibility of your case, Miss
Steel. You suggested that nobody in the group?
       A. I accept nothing with what happened with PC Blakelock.
How could I possibly comment on anything that had to do
       with that?

  Q. Very well. Can you turn to the next page of this document,
please? Page 160, and I have read it so many times that I
would rather not read it out loud again. I would just like
you to read that second paragraph to yourself under the
       heading 'Campaigns'?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Now, this leaflet was in circulation, I think you told us
yesterday that this was perhaps more often circulated than
       any other piece of literature in the group's whole library;
is that right? Those are not your exact words.
       A. I don't think that is what I said. I think I said
something that I remember that there seemed to be an excess
quantity of them hanging around in the office.

  Q. Yes. And it was in circulation during all the time, in one
form or another during all the time that you were a member
of the group was it not?
       A. There was a leaflet giving some of the background to
the group, but as I recollect it there were substantial
       changes.

  Q. What about that paragraph, that has never been changed, has
       it not, since 1986?
       A. I do not know. It may very well have been changed
       since 1986.

  Q. You are very familiar with that paragraph aren't you?
       A. No, not particularly.

  Q. Is there anything in that paragraph of which you personally
       would disassociate yourself?
       A. If I personally had written it I would not have --
well, I mean, the way the leaflet is written is not in
general the way that I would write things.

  Q. I am interested in the substance, Miss Steel, not the
       style?
       A. Well, I did not initiate a campaign against McDonald's.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I do not think that is what Mr. Rampton
       is putting to you.
       A. No, I am going through it.

  Q. Would you disagree with the substance of anything there,
       for instance?
       A. I am trying to get through it.

  Q. As I understand it would you disagree that the campaign
against the McDonald's Hamburger Corporation was perhaps
the most successful campaign that London Greenpeace has
