Day 265 - 19 Jun 96 - Page 47

only relate specifically, from memory, where antiMcDonald's
campaign was mentioned in the letter and primarily, if
those letters originated from outside the United Kingdom.
When they were of significant importance to the group.

  Q. The letters that you took, you passed on to, was it Mr.
Spears, who you passed this information to?
       A. It would have been him or -- yes, probably.

  Q. Probably him?
       A. Probably. I do not recall specifically who, sir.

  Q. And then he photocopied them?
       A. He, myself, I cannot recall who photocopied them but
       they would have been photocopied.

  Q. So the originals did not remain in your possession the
       entire time?
       A. I cannot say after such a long time. I mean, I really
       do not know.

  Q. So it may be that some of them were not returned?
       A. No. I recall returning them.

  Q. But if they went out of your hands, unless you had a list
of each and every single letter which you had been sent,
sorry, which you had taken, you would not know whether or
not you were returning them all?
       A. They would have been passed back to me before the next
meeting or the next opportunity to return them.

  Q. You presumed that?
       A. I strongly recall that, sir.

  Q. As I said if you did not have a list you would not actually
know whether you had got all of them back?
       A. Well, only from memory a letter would be taken on an
occasion and as soon as that had been taken it would have
been photocopied and returned at the next available
opportunity. It would not have been left for any longer
       time.

  Q. And your recollection is that you remember about six
       occasions?
       A. I am guessing at six occasions. It may be less.

  Q. Or it might be more?
       A. I very much doubt it. Without studying my notes in
detail. I probably would have mentioned them in my notes.

  Q. Did you tell anyone in the group that you were taking these
       letters?
       A. No, I did not, sir.

  Q. But anyway you were never given instructions to stop doing
       that?
       A. No, I was not, sir.

  Q. Can I ask the witness be shown the notes of the 21st and
26th October, please? I think they are in the bundle.
