Day 060 - 02 Dec 94 - Page 54

numbers. That needs to be done. They may well be right.

  Q. It does not indicate that you only switched over to 72 per
cent recycled for your Apple Pie Boxes halfway through the
       year?
       A. How do you know?

  Q. It does not say it there, does it?
       A. But how do you know that the end figure they are
claiming there is not an amalgam of 72 per cent and the
       previous percentage?

  Q. Yes, but if a journalist wanted to write a story about the
amounts of recycled paper you had been using and how long
you had been using it for, they would think that you had
been 72 per cent recycled content in your Apple Pie Boxes
for the whole year, would they not?
       A. They might, I do not know what they would think.

  Q. You said that it was for some time prior to -- in fact,
I think you said for as long you have been associated with
McDonald's that there was a high percentage of recycled
paper in the carry-out bags; is that right?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Perhaps if you leave that on the side because we may come
back to it. In pink Volume V ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- if you turn to tab 39 ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- the document we were looking at yesterday, page 685?
       A. Yes.

  Q. The second paragraph of that says: "We are currently
encouraging our suppliers to reduce the weight of packaging
outers as far as possible and all our take-away bags are
now made from 50 per cent recycled paper". That was in
       June 1990.
       A. Yes.

  Q. There is an implication there, it could be read into that,
that is a fairly recent development in terms of the 50 per
cent, they are now making 50 per cent recycled paper.
       A. You could read that into it. But, as I have said, as
long as I can remember there has been recycled content. In
my evidence on yesterday morning, I said it was somewhere
in the region of 50 per cent.

  Q. Are you saying it has been 50 per cent for as long as you
       remember or what?
       A. No, I think it has gone up in stages and has continued
to go up in stages until it got to 100 per cent.

  Q. If we look at document No. 35. Again, this was a document
disclosed by the Defendants but perhaps you could confirm
       it is a McDonald's document?
       A. I recognise the people's names, although I have not
       seen the document.
