Day 310 - 04 Dec 96 - Page 34

discussion about where we are going next, is to adjourn.
What arrangements will be made for -- how big are the
       bundles?

MR. RAMPTON: It is one file; not one fat file; it is one of
       those medium or small files.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When will they be available for Ms. Steel and
       Mr. Morris?

MR. RAMPTON: As soon as they are ready, we will send them
round. I do not know that they are going to be here by
       one.

MR JUSTICE BELL: Anyway, Mrs. Brinley-Codd and Ms. Steel and
Mr. Morris can find out whether they are going to wait for
a while or whether they want them delivered by courier.

MR. RAMPTON: It is only as thick as that. It is a total of
about 40 pages, something like that. There is one other
thing which is coming as well, which we will deliver at the
same time if we can, otherwise later, which is a little
additional section on employment which culls a number of
answers from the evidence, in effect, in response to the
question "What's it like working for McDonald's? " That is
       really just a list.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That sounds to me as if it is in the same
category as what I have said Ms. Steel and Mr. Morris can
       give me by Wednesday.

MR. RAMPTON: Oh, it will be long before that.

MR JUSTICE BELL: Yes. But it is the same sort of -----

MR. RAMPTON: What in fact we have done -- because it is, so we
would say, a good read -- is simply to set out what the
       questions and answers were.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Subject to any comment from anyone, what
I would propose to do is adjourn now and resume on Friday
morning, when I can follow, if you wish, Mr. Rampton, the
same pattern as I have followed with the topics I have read
       about so far.

MR. RAMPTON: I am in your Lordship's hands.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you want to say something more to me
about counterclaim, having read what you will have an
opportunity to read tomorrow, if not this afternoon,
I would like you to be ready to say that you do want to do
that and to carry on, if there is time, on Friday. But we
will just see how we go. I would like you to be able to
tell me on Friday morning just what the position is with
regard to any legal argument, in writing or otherwise. So
first thing on Friday, we will deal with the question of
possible amendment of the counterclaim. 10.30 on Friday.

(The court adjourned until Friday, 6th December, 1996)
