Day 195 - 04 Dec 95 - Page 15
A. To the first statement and -----

Q. Were they asking you for more details about your first
statement?
A. They were asking for more details, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think all I need to know, was that second
statement made up as a result of a solicitor taking notes
of answers you made in relation to various topics or did
you write it out yourself?
A. I did not write it out myself.

MS. STEEL: Do you remember checking the statement?
A. No, I did not have this statement or a copy of it at
all until -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You had better read it through and ask -- if
at any stage when Ms. Steel reads through it you there is
something you want to correct, you tell us. Have you got
it there?
A. Yes, I have it here.

MS. STEEL: "1. Working late. I don't remember the names of
all the people required to work late but I can remember
Adrian Brett", that should be"?
A. Yes, that is right, Adrian Brett.

Q. "... Mandy Dorothy. With Mandy she didn't originally work
late because she was under 18 but once she was 18 she did.
I can also remember Simon", that should be Gibney?
A. Yes.

Q. "... Steve Harney and someone called Martin. The first two
were already Floor Managers and Martin is now but wasn't
then.

I don't remember the exact dates but I can remember in
February or March 1987 visits by management which involved
us cleaning up before they arrived. I suppose this
happened three or four times a week." That was at that
time in February/March 1987?
A. That is right. Three or four times at certain times,
certain times of the year.

Q. "There was a core of crew members that were asked to stay.
There were direct threats to other people about people who
wouldn't stay on. The threat involved them having their
hours cut.

It was the Managers in charge who would ask people to stay,
in particular, Trudie Jones and Steve Harney.

I did hear the Store Manager ask other Managers to keep the
crew on after close because there was a visit by higher up
managers the next day. The Store Manager was Mark Davis.

He also knew about the late closes because he stayed two or
three times or he would come in at 7 a.m. in the morning
when we were still there.
