Day 207 - 23 Jan 96 - Page 54
Q. So, if they were a green badge for five to six weeks, that
would mean that they had not had their probationary review?
A. Yes.

Q. It was just something I wanted to clear up. Are you aware
of complaints in the rap sessions about health and safety
not being taken seriously, the Accident Book being
unavailable, the First Aid box not being well stocked?
A. I am not aware of those comments, but if you show me
them -----

Q. Right. I can do, but do you remember crew making those
kind of complaints?
A. No.

Q. You do not? If you turn to page 191, which again is the
rap session of 16th January 1992, and under "filtering and
safety" -- actually, it may be quite hard to read this.
The second paragraph says: "First Aid box keeps running out
of things such as plasters. Accident Book only filled in
if someone makes a fuss." Does that refresh your memory?
A. No.

Q. If you look at page 200, which is a rap session of
29th June 1992 -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you read line 1 again because, again, it
is very, very faint.

MS. STEEL: OK. The second paragraph of "filtering and safety"
says: "First Aid box keeps running out of things such as
plasters".
A. Sorry, what page, 200?

Q. Page 191. Sorry, the judge wanted to go back. If you just
pause for a minute. (Pause)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: Then the second sentence was: "Accident Book only
filled in if someone makes a fuss."

If you could go back to page 200 -- this is 29th June
1992 -- under "Health and Safety", the last point is: "The
Accident Book is available but it is not used."

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That page again?

MS. STEEL: Page 200, the last point under "Health and Safety".
It also says, incidentally: "Crew would like a fire drill.
No one can remember the last one." Do you remember that as
a complaint?
A. No.

Q. Do you remember any fire drills?
A. I do not remember any fire drills, no.

Q. Right.
A. But, there again, it is not my responsibility to
enforce the fire drill procedures, et cetera.
