Day 276 - 09 Jul 96 - Page 38

exhausted, and I have been for well over a year now, and,
you know, that does make it sometimes very difficult to,
well, it just makes you sometimes short fused.

So, I just say that I do not like, I do not actually
like, being short fused. In fact, over the past year or
so, I have probably had to apologise more times than ever
in my life, in the whole of my life put together, because
of sometimes being a bit short fused.

The other point is that obviously how I behave in a
court case which is run in an adversarial system where we
are not represented but the other party is, obviously, you
know, we have to be argumentative, we have to argue our
side of the case, because nobody is arguing it for us. So,
you know, that is completely different to -- and because
our future is at stake. Unlike anybody else in the
courtroom you know, nobody else's future is at stake
really. I mean, McDonald's is the other party but they are
not a person, they are a corporation and they do not have
personal feelings, apart from the fact that they are not
representing themselves anyway, so their, I don't know,
their personality would not come across. Well, I just
       think it is different.

The other thing in terms of about anything else is
just really to say that, also, the other thing is that in
1989 and 1990 I was six years younger and considerably less
confident than I am now, or have been effectively forced to
become because of having to defend myself in court. I
think there is only a couple of things left.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I was not going to take a break this
afternoon because it is a short afternoon, but if you think
you are coming towards the end of what you want to say, I
will take a short break so that you can just check.
       A. Do you want me to deal with the remaining points and
       then do it?

  Q. What I suggest is deal with the points which you have
definitely got in mind then we will have just a five minute
break. You can add anything which comes to mind during the
       break.
       A. Yes.

  Q. And then, if there is any time left, as there may be, we
will go straight to Mr. Morris asking you any questions he
       wants to ask?
       A. Okay. Just one thing that I remembered that I had
forgotten to say yesterday, which was another thing about
my beliefs and my views. When I was talking about
nutrition and the things I had read and what I believed, I
did not mention the fact that I have had a concern about
related matters such as pesticides and other residues, and
if I just say that since about 1989 I have been a member of
the Henry Doubleday Research Association, which promotes
organic growing of food, and that I used to have an
allotment in 1990/91 where, obviously, I grew food without
the use of chemicals. I mean, I have grown my own food
without the use of chemicals since then as well. When I
