Day 174 - 17 Oct 95 - Page 53

Q. Earlier. Would the reason for abolishing the lobby hostess
position at O'Connell Street be the same as it was for
abolishing it at Grafton Street, namely, bad business?
A. Yes, very definitely.

Q. Do you have lobby hostesses now?
A. Yes, we do.

Q. Do you remember, following the abolition of the two posts
in 1979, do you remember when you reinstated the position
of lobby hostess; do you remember how long after the strike
that happened?
A. I cannot remember exactly, but -----

Q. Roughly.
A. Probably a couple of years.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I have no further questions.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: A couple of years?
A. A couple of years, my Lord, before we reintroduced the
position of hostess.

MR. RAMPTON: Perhaps I ought to ask you this: You said
business was bad during the strike -- I am not going to ask
you what you think the reason for that is; that is,
perhaps, blindingly obvious -- but can I ask you this: Was
your business in profit before the strike began?
A. No.

Q. How long did it take for your business running these two
restaurants, and then later on other ones, for you to
become profitable?
A. It took us after the strike about 18 months after that,
approximately.

MR. RAMPTON: Thank you, Mr. Mehigan. My Lord, I have no
further questions.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, thank you, Mr. Mehigan. Would you like
to go and sit down.

(The witness withdrew)

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I have with me and, if I may, I will hand
up to your Lordship and for the Defendants now copies of
the incident report form from Epsom relating to Melanie
O'Riordon's accident. Your Lordship asked us to look for
it the other day and we found it. If I may just hand those
in. Mrs. Brinley-Codd will tell me where it should go.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Should it go behind Mrs. Hall's statement or
somewhere else?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, that is right, yes; Mrs. Brinley-Codd says
tab 32 in yellow X, behind Annette Hall's statement.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mrs. Norris.
