Day 209 - 25 Jan 96 - Page 50

  Q. But there were carbons underneath, were there, or carbons
       on the back?
       A. Yes. I would have had them both together, yes. There
was a carbon on each one, a pink sheet on each one, and
that would have gone on top of there, and me pressing would
have forced the carbon on to the back sheets. The carbon
would have been on top, I think.

  Q. Yes.
       A. I was given two and then I signed it, and it has
obviously come through on the second one. But, you know,
my PRs were always -- I was quite privileged, because I had
acquired a strong position in the store. But, you know,
I used to get my PRs late. I just used to make sure that I
       always got paid for them.

  Q. Whose is the signature of the Store Manager?
       A. I am not sure it was the Store -----

  Q. Do you recognise the initials?
       A. No. I think it might have been Alan Charlesworth. No,
it cannot be Alan Charlesworth. No, I do not recognise the
initials. Same person, obviously, but .....

  Q. I am told that the Store Manager for that period, spring
and summer of 1994, was Mr. Fenwick. But it would not
necessarily be the Store Manager, himself?
       A. No, exactly. Sometimes -- it normally was. I would be
surprised if it was not. But I do not remember his
signature looking like that, so I cannot say whose it is.

MR. MORRIS: Anyway, regarding all of the PRs that I mentioned,
they are all dated the 21st of -----
       A. Yes. They were never -----

  Q. Every four months. Were they actually given on those
       dates?
       A. No.

MR. MORRIS: Can I say, just to save time, that we will say that
a lot of the other PRs have a similar dating system from
       other workers.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What do you mean, dating system?

MR. MORRIS: They are dated -----

  THE WITNESS: Can I say?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. I just want to ask Mr. Morris to explain
       what he meant, first.

MR. MORRIS: I mean, I could go through them. Basically, they
are dated -- apparently, they have been done on exactly the
same day of the month every four months consecutively; and
some of them even look like the same handwriting over a
period of more than a year.

It is only to say that they back up what the witness has
already said about them being written in advance, dated in
