Day 021 - 29 Jul 94 - Page 42

1 provide that sort of information in either of those two
forms or both of those two forms?
     2 A. No.

3 Q. You do not think so? OK. I mean, is that something
specific just to McDonald's or is that something you feel
4 generally, that people do not really need that kind of
information right in front of them?
5 A. I think that there has to be a certain amount of
interest on the part of the individual themselves, and
6 that what McDonald's are doing in providing the
information is as much as any reasonable person could
     7 expect.

8 Q. You do not think they could do more then?
              A. Of course ---
     9
         Q. You do not think it would be helpful if they did more?
10 A. -- you know, there are always other things that can be
done but, at the end of the day, you have to make a
11 judgment as to how far you go.

12 Q. Would it be helpful if that information was provided in
              those forms?
13 A. It might; I could not give a definitive answer.

14 Q. You do not know?
              A. I do not know.
    15
         Q. Not even as a nutritionist?
    16 A. No.

17 Q. Previously, when we have been talking about meals, you
said that a lot of people who visit McDonald's come in for
18 snacks rather than meals. What is your view on high fat
              snacks?
    19 A. In what context?

20 Q. Do you think it is a good idea to eat high fat snacks?
              A. Provided it is not done in excess, there is no
    21 problem.

22 Q. If people want to reduce their fat intake, it would be a
good idea to avoid high fat snacks?
23 A. If people want to reduce their fat intake, then it
makes much more sense for them to look at their normal
24 diet which they are eating every day at home, rather than
at what they do when they go into somewhere like
25 McDonald's, which is once a week or once a month.

26 If I can give you an example, one of the most effective
ways of reducing fats in the British diet is to switch
27 from full fat milk to semi-skimmed milk or to completely
skimmed milk. Again, I can show you specific data on the
28 effect of that on the fat intake in the British diet.

29 Q. OK. I do not especially want to go into that again.
Could you have a look at this paper? It is something that
    30 you wrote.
