Day 074 - 16 Jan 95 - Page 33
Q. Were those the only two streets invited?
A. There were -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: This one includes Woodfall Street because if
we look at the bottom there is "association was established
to improve and protect not only Smith street but Woodfall
Street as well"?
A. Right, sir.

Q. Presumably, just taken Smith Street as the -----
A. Yes. My main contact was Dr. Taylor and because he
was, that Secretary was his Secretary for his Association,
and he was, I think at that time, either the Chairman or
Ex-Chairman of the Residents Association Hospital Ward.

Q. But the Smith Street residents were invited, the Woodfall
Street ones as well, presumably?
A. Wellington Square, I do not think they had a Residents
Association.

Q. I am just asking you for a moment, residents of which
streets were invited to this party? You were saying Royal
Avenue residents were invited as well, were they?
A. Yes, they were, sir.

Q. Woodfall Street and Smith Street and any others?
A. No, they were not.

MS. STEEL: What about Wellington Square?
A. Wellington Square, as far as I am concerned, there was
no Residents Association for them.

Q. So they did not get invited?
A. No, for those invitations were just posted through
because, as I mentioned before, there were not many houses
where you could find somebody actually living. They were
owned by some people but I think most of the time they were
not occupied, those houses were not occupied. Because
altogether, if I remember it correctly, we distributed
around 300 or so invitations.

Q. 300 invitations were given to the Residents' Associations?
A. Yes.

Q. At this party you said it was to have good rapport with the
local residents and to see about the problems?
A. Yes.

Q. So what was discussed at the party or candle lit dinner,
whatever you want to call it?
A. I introduced myself and my management team to the local
residents, whoever came through the front door, and
suggested that if there are any problems or anything please
do not hesitate to contact; if I am not around, then any
one of my managers.

Q. So did any of the residents who attended say what they
thought the problems were?
A. No, I do not recall anybody suggesting that there were
any problems.
