Day 161 - 24 Jul 95 - Page 34

       A. Yes.

  Q. Thank you. Hang on, sorry. Does that generally apply
across the board, that "satisfactory" is about the average
mark, and extra special people get above that, for other
       things as well?
       A. Yes.

(Video film continued to be played)

MISS STEEL: Is this the Strand store?
       A. It is Croydon.

(Video film continued to be played)

MR. MORRIS: Strand or Croydon, sorry?
       A. It is Croydon.

MISS STEEL: I note it is lunchtime. Also, I was just going to
ask: in the shops we have seen, the Croydon stores, they
would have been distinguishing between the two shores. Was
there anything that you have seen in the Croydon store that
you would not see happening in the Strand store, in terms
       of the working practices?
       A. No; it is just slightly faster, in that I have been to
Croydon restaurant; and on this video especially, it looks
faster. But there is nothing there which I could say is
       different at the Strand.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause.

MISS STEEL: Was there anything you saw that would have
concerned you if you had seen it going on in a store where
       you were a Manager?
       A. No.

  MISS STEEL: Should we break?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. We will break there till two o'clock.
Over the adjournment, I would like you to give a little bit
of thought to how long cross-examination of Miss Anteneh
will last, purely and simply because tomorrow is the final
day for some time. I will ask you about that when we come
       back at two.

                        (Luncheon Adjournment)

MISS STEEL: We wanted to carry on with the video, but we were
not quite sure what to do, because Miss Brindley-Codd is
       not here.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let me ask you about timing.

MISS STEEL: Right, OK. We should be finished by lunchtime
       tomorrow.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. If there is any reason to vary that at
the end of the afternoon, let me know.

  MISS STEEL: OK.
