Day 137 - 19 Jun 95 - Page 25

not want to be left out! He is the Senior Chairman of the
Board, if you will, and this -- I am not sure how it works
in England, but the CEO of the Corporation is at a higher
level, if you will, than the Chairman of Board at least
       within the McDonald's organisation.

  Q. So we squeeze Mr. Turner in somewhere between Mr. Rensi and
       Mr. Quinlan, do we?
       A. He would probably like to be squeezed in at the top,
even though he does not have as much authority in the
       running of the organisation.

  Q. Can we return now, please, to the document D1 and turn to
       the last page ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- where we have 87,246 Service Workers employed by
       McDonald's?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What does that category consist of?
       A. Those would be our crew workers hourly, if you will.
That would be all hourly workers.

  Q. So everybody below the line on the hierarchy?
       A. I am sorry, I did not hear you.

  Q. Everybody from Swing Manager downwards?
       A. Exactly.

  Q. If we look at the totals -- my Lord, it has been drawn to
my attention -- I know not on what basis -- that the reason
it is thought why the addition does not work in that first
part of the first table in D1 is that the figure for Blacks
in McDonald's in the total bottom two lines should be 18.3
       and not 20.

  THE WITNESS: Okay.

MR. RAMPTON: So, I am informed. What the reason is for that
I will tell your Lordship later on. I think somebody has
done the arithmetic on D2, yes. That is all it is. I am
grateful. Then it adds up, does it? (To the witness):
Can you look at the last page of D1, Mr. Stein, please?
       A. Certainly.

  Q. Here we notice that, in contrast with the Officials and
Managers, McDonald's slightly under scores in the female
section, do you see that, under scores the national total?
       A. Which page are you looking at?

  Q. The last page of D1.
       A. The last page of D1 under Service Workers?

  Q. Yes, that is right.
       A. OK, and you want -----

  Q. Nationally, the figure for females is 58.2 per cent
       McDonald's is 54 per cent?
       A. Yes.
