Day 249 - 14 May 96 - Page 58
that close to it. I just watch the public going by, going
into the main hall picking up the leaflets, picking up the
list of exhibitors.

Q. How far away from the stall were you?
A. The whole hall, if I remember rightly, is only about 15
yards, maybe, wide. It runs right through to Theobold Road
but I did not go anywhere near there.

Q. Right?
A. I was about 10, 15 -- 10, 12 yards, something like
that.

Q. 10 to 12 yards from the London Greenpeace stall?
A. Yes. Yes, just inside the door.

Q. So, basically, you just stayed by the door and that was
about it?
A. Yes.

Q. What was the furthest you went inside?
A. Until I saw Veggies, which would have taken me up to
the door to the main hall.

Q. You could see the leaflet complained of on the table, you
say, but you could not identify what the other leaflets
were?
A. The first leaflet was the directions around who was
exhibiting. That was on the... The table was like a half
a hexagon thing, as I remember. Each side was covered with
the leaflet telling people who the exhibitors were, and a
plan of the hall. Then there was our leaflet, then there
was the McDonald's leaflet. Then there were some other
leaflets with your logo on the top.

Q. Right. Was the place packed out, this hallway?
A. No, it was fairly busy. There were people continuously
passing backwards and forwards. There were people standing
around the London Greenpeace stall.

Q. Chatting to the people that were working behind the stall?
A. I did not see anyone working behind the stall as such,
no.

Q. There was nobody there?
A. I did not notice anybody there. When I went in I do
not think there was nobody standing behind the stall.

Q. OK. In the ten minutes that you were there how many copies
of the leaflet do you think you saw being picked up?
A. 6, 10, something like that, and that really is a guess.

Q. Do you remember when exactly it was that you decided to
hire private investigators?
A. Yes, I think it was June of 1989 when Paul Preston said
to me, and asked me, whether I thought it was possible to
mount an operation with the object of bringing the
distribution of the leaflet to a halt.

Q. Was it suggested at that time should include the use of
