Day 272 - 02 Jul 96 - Page 35

Q. This is a leaflet entitled 1989 Big Mac Attack. Actually
the main heading is the anti-McDonald's campaign?
A. Yes.

Q. Have you seen this leaflet before?
A. Yes, I wrote it.

Q. What was it written for?
A. It was written for the 1989 mail out, for the World
Day of Action.

Q. If we just look at the second paragraph.
A. Yes.

Q. "We are a very small group with only a dozen or so active
members and chronic underfunding so we cannot do much more
than let people know what is happening and leave it up to
them. Anyway, we have no desire to be a large centralized
institution telling others what they should do. The great
success of the anti-McDonald's campaign is due to the fact
that it has rested entirely on the activity of independent
local groups throughout this country and abroad."

Was that your view at the time?
A. Yes.

Q. Is that your view now?
A. It is definitely.

Q. And then it says:

"Many groups have used our famous fact sheet "What's Wrong
with McDonald's, Everything They Don't Want You to Know",
as the basis for their own leaflet and we will supply a
copy on receipt of a large SAE".

And then it says:

"Please don't request large quantities because we don't
have many ourselves and can't pay the printing bills. There
are two groups who will print leaflets for local groups in
bulk."

And then it is Veggies Cooperative and Arc Print in Seven
Sisters Road?
A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we just pause there. What you describe
as "our famous fact sheet, What is Wrong With McDonald's,
Everything They Don't Want you to Know", is that the
leaflet which McDonald's complain of in this action?
A. Yes.

Q. Just pause please. Yes, thank you.

MS. STEEL: Was that true at that time, that London Greenpeace
did not have many copies of "What's Wrong With McDonald's"
fact sheet?
A. Yes.
