Day 267 - 21 Jun 96 - Page 28

MS. STEEL: This is the meeting of the 8th February, 90 -- can I
have that back I want to check something?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, it is right. It is an asterisk and
appears on the 8th February and it is in different ink. It
is in fountain pen ink, whereas the entry for the 18th
January is all in blue biro.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: At the top of the page where you have got
"7.30 to 11.50" and then "meeting of London Greenpeace 5
Caledonian Road, notes made at 11.30pm". What comes after
       that?
       A. Holborn.

  Q. Sorry?
       A. Holborn.

MS. STEEL: Yes. The only person at this meeting when you
arrived was Jane and she was -- for some reason I
thought... You said, "Before the bulk of the group arrived
I had the opportunity to go through certain documents on
the desk. I managed to find in a drawer bank statements
for London Greenpeace." Then you have written down the name
of the bank and the account number. Did you write that
       down at the time?
       A. I probably would have done, yes.

  Q. You would have written that down at the time?
       A. I would have done, yes.

  Q. Even though Jane was in the meeting?
       A. She may have left the room for a few moments.

  Q. And in those same few moments you managed to find out,
lower down: "I also managed to obtain through
correspondence on the desk that their printer or printers."
       A. Yes.

  Q. "Who have helped" -- and that is crossed out -- "produced
some of their literature are Allgate Press". What is that
actually after the Allgate Press. Is that 99?
       A. I have put Algrave or Allgate Press, and I have put
"99 per cent Allgate". In other words, I was 99 per cent
sure it was Allgate, but I believed it to be that.

  Q. Right. And then you have got, it looks like, "Paul Mann's
home 'phone number", and you have got "'phone number" down
there. You managed to write all that down when Jane was
out of the room, did you?
       A. I may have just written down numbers. I imagine I
would have written down numbers. I may have written it all
       down.

  Q. You did not take those letters then?
       A. No.

  Q. Are you sure about that?
       A. Not that I recall.
