Day 259 - 10 Jun 96 - Page 46

necessary payrolls that were appertaining to the period he
was investigating, and I would have gone through it with
       him.

  Q. When you went through it with him, did you notice if there
was anybody who worked over 39 hours, or did it generally
seem to you that everybody was working under 39 hours?
       A. I cannot comment on that, I am sorry. It is too long
       ago. I really cannot remember.

  Q. It is difficult to remember that far back, is it not?
       A. On things like that, it is, on things like that.

  Q. On things like what your job entailed?
       A. I remember exactly what my job entailed. I was there
       for seven years doing it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How much longer do you think you will be? It
is a question whether we adjourn now and come back at five
       past two.

MR. MORRIS: I think it is better to adjourn now.

MS. STEEL: Just before we adjourn, can I just mention that
I did ask Mrs. Brinley-Codd for the notes that Mr. Bishop
made of the meeting of 17th May 1990 which were referred to
in his statement, but for some reason we have not had
       copies.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Ask Mrs. Brinley-Codd about that when
       I rise. Five past two.

                        (Luncheon Adjournment)

MR. MORRIS: Do you know when or if the Wages Inspectorate was
       scrapped?
       A. It was certainly after I left McDonald's.

  Q. You are a consultant now on payroll matters; yes?
       A. Correct.

  Q. Do you know when the Wages Inspectorate was scrapped?
       A. Not exactly, no. It was a little while after I left
       McDonald's.

  Q. It was a little while afterwards. What, one or two years?
       A. Something like that.

  Q. At the end of the 80s?
       A. I have not dealt with them since.

  Q. But this would be one of the things you would be expected
to know when companies are asking you about payroll
       matters, what kind of -----
       A. No, not at all. That is not the field that I work in
now. I am a tax consultant.

  Q. Tax consultant?
       A. And those companies that hire me hire me purely for tax
       matters.
