1 that area over the last three years. Instead, the way
that people and people in politics and legislators, both
2 on a local state and federal level, the way that people
are looking at this issue now is in a very much more
3 appropriate way. They are looking at packaging from a
total viewpoint rather than a singular viewpoint.
     4
         Q. So, when you say they are looking at packaging from a
5 total viewpoint, are they, therefore, banning whole ranges
of packaging rather than just one aspect?
6 A. No, they are looking at it pretty much the way we
looked at it in our report that we produced in 1991. They
7 are looking at waste reduction as not one single method.
They are looking at waste reduction as a comprehensive way
8 of reducing waste. You just do not do it by banning one
substance. You reduce waste by reducing, reusing,
9 recycling, composting etc. It is a combination of all
              those factors.
    10
         Q. Just to bring up this campaign, the McToxic campaign:
11 These 7 to 10,000 letters that you received in one year at
the peak of that campaign, has there been any other
12 protests about an environmental issue that you are aware
that resulted in that many letters to your company?
13 A. Well, first of all, what you said was not correct.
Those letters that we had were not a direct result of the
14 campaign that you referred to.

15 Q. But concern about styrofoam packaging?
              A. The general concern, so, in general, I gave you an
16 answer; those were the amount of letters that came in from
all parts of the United States, from all age groups of
17 people. There have been -- yes, you are correct, that, in
my opinion, there has been -- yes, I think there is
18 something that has outnumbered that -----

    19 Q. What is that?
              A. It was a positive response related to our announcement
20 to go no smoking in the United States this year. I think
overwhelmingly we received more customer input via that
    21 change being made.

22 MR. JUSTICE BELL: What you mean you got more than 7 to 10,000
              letters approving that move?
23 A. I am giving my opinion that we did receive all types
of letters of appreciation for that.
    24
         Q. What Mr. Morris is asking is whether there is any other
25 topic which has received as much?
              A. The smoking issue then.
    26
         Q. No, but by way of complaint rather than -----
27 A. Oh, complaint -- no, not to my knowledge.

28 MR. MORRIS: What would be the next most significant issue of
the complaint that you are aware of after the styrofoam
    29 packaging issue?
              A. From an environmental perspective?
    30
         Q. Yes.
