       reason.

  Q. So it is purely choice?
       A. Yes.

  Q. OK. Going on to transportation: The trays are all pulled
out at roughly the same time, are they, and the chickens
       are taken out?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So what happens to the eggs that have not finished or have
       not hatched yet?
       A. They are of no use.

  Q. What would happen to them?
       A. They are, I do not know, they go to pet food.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Please keep your voice up.
       A. OK. The question what do we do with the chicks that do
not hatch, all of the eggs are programmed through our
breeding system to hatch at about the same time. If they
are not, obviously, not all of the eggs are going to hatch
       because that is Mother Nature.

  Q. Yes, I understand that. It is just what happens to them.
       A. Those that do not hatch are destroyed.

MS. STEEL: In this country at Sun Valley they go through a
macerator, is that what is used in the -----
       A. Pretty much yes.

  Q. Yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Going on to transportation then to the broiler units: How
far do the chicks get transported?
       A. Probably a mile to maximum two miles.

  Q. That is the maximum, is it?
       A. In our system in the US, yes.

  Q. Is that just for Tyson?
       A. For both Keystones -- they have their hatcheries are
very close to the growing areas.

  Q. So neither of them buy in any from anybody else?
       A. No, unless there is a sharp demand in production, then
we will buy from Tyson, from their non-McDonald's division.

  Q. How often does that happen?
       A. It varies. Usually, during the summer that we could
have a big demand. It depends a lot on our suppliers and
our competitors, whether or not they run promotions side by
side with us, that will increase the ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Does that mean they are transported any
       greater distance?
       A. OK, yes -- not the chicks. The chicks will never be
transported any greater distance, the eggs will. We
transport only eggs from the other facilities when we do
