Day 159 - 20 Jul 95 - Page 40

       A. I do not think he worked -- I think he might have
worked in the evenings or weekends when I was not at work.
Sometimes if there was a holiday he would work in the
       day-time.

  Q. But your impression was basically that he was not working
at McDonald's any longer after that incident?
       A. Well, no, I cannot tell you. He may have done, you
       know.

  Q. But you never saw him again?
       A. I never asked. No, I never saw him and I never asked.
He may have done, he may have worked for quite a long time
and I may not have seen him.

  Q. So he had refused to do some work because he did not think
he was getting paid enough to do it?
       A. Yes, he said, "I am not cleaner". He said do I think
it is right why he did not get paid the cleaning job, you
know. He said, "I could go out in the morning and get paid
œ5 an hour." I said to him, "Why don't you go and do it
then?" I said: "When you first started here you knew what
you was taking on; you were told what you are taking on.
There was all cleaning to do. You clean as you go, and he
       accepted that.

  Q. Did you get your stars, you know, the stars you get?
       A. Yes, five stars.

  Q. How long did it take you to get your five stars from when
were you a five-star person, roughly when?
       A. After a few months I suppose; once we had done our
       tests.

  Q. So about 1975 you had basically reached your ----
       A. By the end of 1975.

  Q. You got your stars?
       A. Oh, yes.

  Q. When Mr. Magee says he was trying to -- when he was
recruiting for the union, as he says in his statement ----
       A. Yes.

  Q. --- or telling people about the union or whatever, he said
that, "People insisted" -- this is a direct quote -- "that
management were not to know that this had been done." That
is what was told to him. That was on page 3 for the other
people's reference. Then he said about the five-star
people on page 9: "I made sure that I did not approach
these people when I was trying to recruit for the union."
If that is true, would you know why?
       A. No, I have no idea. I know nothing about it. I know
knowing about a union. I never even heard of it, you know,
       from there.

  Q. You have read the statement of Mr. Giardina as well, have
       you?
       A. Yes, quickly I did. I have not sort of ----
