Day 122 - 05 May 95 - Page 56

they kept various records, accident books, crew records,
time clock records, and the information that came back to
me was that the clock cards were destroyed as quickly as
they possibly could because they are big generators of
       paper.

  Q. The stores are instructed to retain clock cards for at
least five years, are they not?
       A. Not that I know of.

  Q. Have you got pink volume XII, please?
       A. Yes.

  Q. If you could turn to tab 11?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Page 493?
       A. Yes.

  Q. It is a job description for the Administrative Assistant?
       A. Yes.

  Q. This is within the crew training programme, I think?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Actually, if you turn over to page 494?
       A. Yes.

  Q. No 18, job description of this person, Typical Duties And
Responsibilities: "Maintains the clock cards of hourly
paid employees in an orderly condition (for at least five
       years)".
       A. I do not know -- well, I am going on what I was told --
I do not know anything about this, but the information
I was told, and making enquiries on your behalf, was that
clock cards were destroyed very quickly. I think what has
been saved for five years is the information extracted from
       the actual clock cards.

  Q. That is not what it says there, is it?
       A. No, I agree that is not what it says, but I think that
is what it means. That is what happens, in effect.

  Q. Can you just say what the "store-wide reports" are?
       A. Can you refer me to that?

  Q. Do you know what the store-wide reports are?
       A. Yes, it is a thing used in Operations. I am not sure
what it is. I think it is what produces, I think it is
what produces, their hourly volume, their daily volume,
what you have on one --- all the tills are computerised and
you have one till that the Manager is responsible for. He
can go to that one till and extract from that till a
store-wide report showing what each of the tills have done
in the last hour and in the preceeding hours, so that he is
constantly aware of what the volume is.

  Q. Is that all it is about?
       A. Oh, I do not know, but I am sure that is what it is,
       yes.
