Day 142 - 26 Jun 95 - Page 48

holiday, I will not have the first idea. You can assume
I am OK on France and Spain but nowhere else.

MR. MORRIS: I want to move on to Barbados which is abstract
paragraph 75. It is a very brief pleading.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Page 28.

MR. MORRIS: "In or around 89/90, in Barbados, McDonald's opened
their first store, and introduced the practice of hiring
cheap holiday labour from schools". What is your
understanding of the situation in Barbados?
       A. My understanding is that I do not believe we have a
restaurant there any more. I believe that we ran into
problems with our owner/operator there, and I believe he
was defaulted. I do not believe we have a restaurant
there. I may be wrong, but that is my recollection of
       Barbados.

  Q. Is it not a fact that the Minister of Finance said that you
were operating without a licence and that is why it closed?
       A. No, it closed -- I do not know anything about the
Minister of whoever, but I can tell you that there was
disagreement between our operations people and the operator
as to how he was operating his business and default action
took place. I am almost positive we do not have a store in
Barbados. It was closed. We initiated the closing, not
       someone else.

  Q. If you go to document No. 126, it is kingfisher blue, the
       same bundle you had before.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is 4 of the Defendants' List of Documents,
Mr. Stein, No. 26 in that.

MR. MORRIS: No. 26. Unfortunately, we have to go in a number
of pages. It is probably easier to count the pages. It is
       something about 25 pages through.
       A. Can you tell me what I am looking for?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Hold it up so we can see what it looks like?

MR. MORRIS: It is: "McDonald's under Fire in Barbados" with
       thick black underneath.
       A. I have it.

  Q. It is nearer the end than the beginning. It is before all
the Patina Herron bomb hoax incident cuttings?
       A. You are saying it is at the top?

  Q. Yes, I am just pointing out in case people cannot find it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Carry on, Mr. Stein has it.

MR. MORRIS: Do you want to read that?
       A. I have been reading it.

  Q. It is an extract from the Catering and Hotel Keeper,
       28th June 1990.
       A. OK.
