Day 074 - 16 Jan 95 - Page 32

and then what were they increased to?
       A. It was, basically, again I said that it is every half
an hour a environment/index.html">litter patrol is done, but sometimes there have
been instances where the environment/index.html">litter patrol is not done in half
an hour and, basically, because sometimes a crew member
will not wear a environment/index.html">litter patrol jacket, people were not aware
that those people who were going around were from
       McDonald's.

  Q. So you were not actually increasing the frequency of the
environment/index.html">litter patrols, you were marking them more visible and,
what, seeing that they did go out when they were supposed
       to?
       A. Yes, increasing exactly the same like every half an
hour, but we have made sure or we tried that if the round
was gone one way, and that is why we had a map inside the
dining area, that which way to go to start from, because
what happens is you go round one way once and on the second
time another employee has started the environment/index.html">litter patrol from
the other direction, so that sometimes increased
theoretical, I would say, or even practical frequency. So,
if you follow the same route every time, we made sure that
people do get to the same spot after half an hour or so, so
it was just to use exactly the same thing but in a more
       systematic approach.

  Q. So you say they are half an hour before the complaint and
they remained at every half an hour after the complaint?
       A. Yes, but it was not half an hour before as such,
because people, or the crew member, could have started that
       in any direction.

  Q. If there were really only four complaints -- you seem to
indicate there might even have been less than that -- why
did you go to all this trouble then of having a dinner?
       A. Because the thing is that it is always nice to talk to
the people, to the local residents, because it helps to
ease the problem if there is a problem, then they know
there are no communication barriers at all.

  Q. So this was something of a PR stunt?
       A. No, it is not a PR stunt. It is for your community.
PR stunts like in Barnet, they are not PR stunts. It costs
you money, but again you have to have the feeling and you
have to have the belief in what you do. And if you believe
in your community and you believe in having a good
relationship with your local residents, then you will do it
and you will do it happily. You cannot do it -- stunts can
be done once or twice, not every day.

  Q. There was only one party while you were there?
       A. There was only one party, yes.

  Q. So, you did an invitation which you gave the invitations to
Linda Wells and she delivered them; is that right?
       A. She delivers it to the residents of Smith Street, but
for Royal Avenue it was given to the Secretary of the Royal
Avenue which I mentioned before. I do not recall her name
and she was giving the invitation for Royal Avenue.
