Day 088 - 13 Feb 95 - Page 77

per cent or something like that?
       A. I would find that very, very difficult to answer
because there are times in the year when soya is so
expensive that it is totally eliminated from the diet.

  Q. What about the pig food for the pigs for fattening the
       finishing units?
       A. The same rule applies.

  Q. The same what?
       A. The same rule applies.

  Q. So that would just be cereal protein fish meal?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And soya, which months is the soya cheaper? Is that winter
       or summer or what?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It would be easier to say which are the
expensive periods because presumably when it is relatively
inexpensive you can choose whatever percentage suits your
formula. When are you under pressure because of the cost
of soya to cut the proportion down even to nothing?
       A. It depends on say the Peruvian and Chilean crops.

  Q. So you just cannot say certain months in the year?
       A. No, it is all about the harvest of it, sir, the
       availability.

MS. STEEL: So is it mostly from Peru and Chile, or is it from
       other countries as well?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What other countries does it come from?
       A. There are European, American countries it comes from.
It comes from all over the world now, it is an
       international commodity.

  Q. Do you ever get it from Brazil?
       A. That I do not know, I have to be honest about that.
That is one thing I had better explain. What we do is we
actually have two food nutritionists who work for us and
they actually make the diets up and the compounders then
have to make the feed to our specification, but we do not
have any jurisdiction of where they buy Peruvian,
Argentinian, Italian or whatever. It is up to them then to
buy it from the source they think fit.

  Q. So you are aware that some of it comes from Latin American
       countries?
       A. It is possible.

  Q. Which company do you buy the soya feed from?
       A. We do not buy soya feed as such.

  Q. Well the soya meal or?
       A. We do not buy it direct.

  Q. Which company?
       A. We do not buy it direct. It is our who compounders buy
