Day 067 - 15 Dec 94 - Page 48
you describe it.

Q. You have read Mr. Gregory's statement, yes?
A. Yes.

Q. Is there anything which you consider Britain was lagging
behind other countries in any of the things that you read?
Was it world class in all aspects?
A. You are speaking in general terms?

Q. I am talking about McDonald's suppliers in Britain. You
said they are world class in terms of animal welfare?
A. That is correct.

Q. --- leaving aside any other concerns. Were there any
things in which you considered they were not world class or
just from your general knowledge of this country?
A. If you just give me a minute to mentally review the
report. At this time I cannot think of a significant area
that would require or that it would below McDonald's
suppliers or standards. I do not claim they are perfect.
There are always things that can be improved, yes.

Q. If we just try to go through the questionnaire that you
sent out. I do not know if you have it?
A. Is it volume IX?

Q. I cannot remember where it is to be honest.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is in yellow 12 at tab 16.
A. Can you direct me to the tab and page please?

MR. MORRIS: Tab 16.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think Dr. Gomez Gonzales wants to be on the
same sheet as you.

MR. MORRIS: I am sorry, I have got Moscow which is the first
one, page 1?
A. Yes, I have it.

Q. If you forget the cover notes and just concentrate on the
forms.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is part A.

MR. MORRIS: Obviously, some of this has been dealt with. Just
on Moscow, you said that they use some beef that is
imported. It does not mention it specifically on this
form. Can you just remind me what countries you said were
imported?
A. OK. When I received this form I did not know if they
were importing products from anywhere. I had some
conversation with our German partners who had been heavily
involved in this project. I had a conversation with Doug
Gullang who is the President of OSI International, one of
our largest suppliers of the USA, who also is responsible
for the operation of L&O in Germany. He told me that some
of the beef is coming from the UK at this point.
