Day 272 - 02 Jul 96 - Page 70

this? It is only right that I should. You have looked
at these notes. Mrs. Tiller said so far as she is
concerned that is accurate. Have you had a chance to
decide whether, broadly speaking, what she has written in
these notes are in accordance with your recollection, or is
that not a fayre question? Have you not had time to think
       about it?
       A. Well, to be fair, I do not think I have seen the notes
       in this form before.

  Q. Just look at this one little passage and I will not ask you
about the generality. It is on page 26 and it is the last
       paragraph but one?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What she has written is this. "Forthcoming events were
raised on the agenda and Paul seemed to be quite enthused
at the prospect. Advised all present that there was to be
a public meeting of the Hackney & Islington Animal Rights
Campaign on the evening of Monday 1st October on the
subject of McDonald's; "everything they do not want you to
know," and he was to be the guest speaker as representative
of subject group, London Greenpeace." Now, do you believe
that that is an accurate account of what you said on that
       occasion?
       A. Well, I have no memory of it but it could well be,
       yes; possibly.

  Q. Well then, my question is what would be the point -- well
there are two questions. First of all, what is the point
of announcing this at a London Greenpeace meeting. It is
not a Hackney and Islington Animal Rights meeting. It is a
London Greenpeace meeting. What is the point of announcing
       that event at that meeting?
       A. What was the point?

  Q. Yes?
       A. Well because I was going to speak there on behalf of
       London Greenpeace.

  Q. On an anti-McDonald's theme?
       A. Yes. It is also worth pointing out though that other
Hackney and Islington events were regularly announced in
the forthcoming events of London Greenpeace meetings.

  Q. I have no dispute with you about that at all, Mr. Gravett.
There were other people in the group as interested in
       animal rights as you were?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Ms. Steel and Miss Lapport amongst them?
       A. Not Helen Steel.

  Q. Not interested in animal rights?
       A. I did not say that. You said "as interested as I was,"
you said; as interested as I was. Helen Steel was not part
of Hackney & Islington Animal Rights.

  Q. I am not suggesting whether she was or was not. It is no
concern of mine, but my question is this. Why would it be
