Day 136 - 16 Jun 95 - Page 15

MR. MORRIS: So if it is not possible, then you do not know?
Your evidence was that it went throughout?
       A. That is the information that I have been given. That
is the reason why we are using that particular tile. The
only problem we have with that particular tile is that we
tend to wear out the mop heads because of the hard abrasion
on the surface when we are cleaning the kitchen.

  Q. What is the cost of these Swedecor tiles per square metre?
       A. To supply and lay them in a restaurant is approximately
       œ89 a square metre.

  Q. The Altro was œ17 less than that?
       A. Yes, roughly about œ72.

  Q. About œ72. The tiles in the designated not non-slip areas
       like this one?
       A. No, more like the one to your -- that is it. Yes.

  Q. How much is that one per square metre to lay?
       A. Roughly about the same.

  Q. What price?
       A. I would say slightly less than œ89 because of the
makeup of the tile. The expense of the Swedecor is based
on the fact that we have this material inside it which
gives it this strong abrasive feel when you walk on it.

  Q. How much is this one?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. Why are you asking what the costs are?
The only reason the costs of Swedecor compared with another
one was introduced was really to show that it happened to
be more expensive in return, no doubt, for greater safety
because just wearing the surface did not reduce its
non-slip capacity. You know, slips are part of health and
safety which is part of employment which is part of the
       whole of this case.

If we enquire into costs of non-slip tiles when, so far
as I know, there is no particular expert evidence which you
are going to call in relation to that, we are going to
spend hours and days over absolutely everything. I am just
using it as an example. If there is something which is
very important arising out of the cost, tell me, but we
must keep a sense of proportion if there is not.

MR. MORRIS: It is a question of how much priority McDonald's
put into their tiling as opposed to, say, their large
plastic "Ms" on the front of their stores.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I want to ask no further questions in
       relation to that.

MR. MORRIS: Can I just ask about this one last one?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Make it the very last one.

MR. MORRIS (To the witness): How much did that cost per square
       metre?
