Day 062 - 06 Dec 94 - Page 59
cent? Do you have any rough idea what the post-consumer
content would be for napkins?
A. I thought it was over 90 per cent.

Q. Over 90. Apart from the UK post-consumer, mainly
post-consumer content of the carry-out bags, you said in
the rest of Europe it was mainly post-industrial?
A. Yes.

Q. So for the vast majority of Europe all the first items are
mainly post-industrial, and then all the other items,
except for napkins, are also post-industrial 100 per cent,
in fact they were 100 per cent post-industrial you said?
A. The top colour material is 100 per cent or the recycled
material, the recycled proportion of that is
post-industrial, yes.

Q. So this is the result you got from your survey, yes, or
since?
A. What you have got in front of you as part of CVE 3 was
the survey that was used in 1993 to come to the data for
1992, whereas these are the data for 1991. So I used the
slightly different version, but it is comparable.

Q. Do you happen to know the details of the recycled content
and the percentage, post-industrial and post-consumer, for
the items which Perseco does not distribute?
A. No.

Q. Perseco only knows about its own materials?
A. Yes. I can make an educated guess, but it would not be
further than that. For instance, if you are talking about
the towels and the toilet rolls, they come from Fort
Sterling, I know they only deal with post-consumer waste
or, again, mainly with post-consumer waste.

Q. They come from where?
A. Fort Sterling.

Q. Is that in the UK?
A. Yes.

Q. They supply the whole of Europe or just the UK?
A. No they are the main supplier to the UK.

Q. There have been a lot of quite dramatic improvements, have
there not, in the recycled content since you took over, if
you like. Would that be a fair comment?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to put that, by all means do, or
do you really mean since the beginning of 1991?

MR. MORRIS: Certainly. In 1991 there seem to be a lot of quite
dramatic increases in the recycled content. Would that be
fair comment from the figures you have given us today?
A. Yes, there is an increase in recycled content in 1991,
partially because of the introduction of top colour and
partially because of the increase in recycled content in
the carry-out bags, yes.
