Day 062 - 06 Dec 94 - Page 38
A. -- the UK and Ireland. In the rest of Europe, several
countries in February 1992 switched from zero per cent
recycled to 100 per cent recycled, and then a large group
switched at that time and later on individual countries
switched to the 100 per cent as well.

Q. Have they had problems with the 100 per cent? Have they
continued with the 100 per cent?
A. They have all continued, once they had the
100 per cent, they have all continued using the
100 per cent. There is a difference between the two
suppliers, as I indicated earlier. The supplier that is
responsible for the content is a Continental supplier,
Schisler, and they use mostly post-industrial material
which is of a slightly higher quality than post-consumer --
no, sorry, I should say of a slightly more consistent
quality why it is possible or which enables them to go
through to a 100 per cent recycled material.

Q. So prior to February 1992 the other countries were not
using recycled paper in their bags?
A. In their carry-out bags, that is correct.

Q. In this country and Ireland has the situation remained
consistent with the 50 to 80 per cent or has that changed?
A. After they had changed to 80 per cent, they have
remained at 80 per cent. As I said, this 80 per cent
should be considered as to be a minimum specification. It
can be anywhere up to 100 per cent but we guarantee 80.
They have -- I have been recently with them in contact and
they are now that far that they expect that by March of
next year we can go to 100 per cent of recycled material.

Q. We saw one of the charts that some of the bags that were 60
per cent and some of them were 80 per cent?
A. Yes.

Q. What I am trying to get at is whether after 1991 all the
bags were 80 per cent or whether the situation remained?
A. No.

Q. They were all 80 per cent?
A. By the end of 1991 all of them were 80 per cent and we
have not used the 60 per cent bags since.

Q. What is the situation with napkin?
A. Napkin has been recycled since January of 1991 which is
basically before my starting, so I could not tell you
really what it was exactly before that.

Q. You do not know what the position was before that?
A. No.

Q. But it was in January 1991 that the change was made?
A. Let me check the notes. I made a note on that briefly.

MR. MORRIS: We have no objection to him looking at any notes.
A. Sorry?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Look at your note, if you wish, Mr. Van Erp.
