Day 277 - 10 Jul 96 - Page 45
speaking to us and, yes, I have spoken to them.

Q. Do you remember giving a long interview to The Guardian
newspaper which was published on 11th July 1995 in the
women's section? It is only fair I should show it to you
now.
A. I think I do remember it, yes.

Q. I think I will pass it up now, but before I ask you any
question I should show you it because you may be
misreported. It does happen we know that (handed).

Q. Just looks like it is a pretty rotten photograph but it
looks like you wearing the same sort of shirt to what you
are wearing today?
A. It is probably the same one.

Q. Though I dare say it has been to the cleaners since then.
11th July 1995 headed, "Bun Fight"?
A. Yes, I do remember the article, yes.

Q. Do you remember the interview on which the article was
based?
A. I do remember speaking to Sarah Boseley, although I do
remember that there were some things that were not what I
had said.

Q. Could I ask you, please, just to read the column, the first
column halfway down, starting with the words "If the
corporation wins", down to "Mcnuggets to low staff wages"?
A. Yes, in fact that was one of the things that I did not
say to her.

Q. You did not say?
A. No.

Q. Is there anything else in that?
A. In the whole article?

Q. No, no, in that short passage from "if the corporation
wins" down to "low staff wages". I am not interested in
anything else.
A. Down to where sorry?

Q. Down from "if the corporation wins" down the bit about
"Mcnuggets low staff wages", which is the last complete
paragraph in the photocopy?
A. Right. I did not say I hated the promotion of
burgers. I remember when I read this article thinking I
never once said the word 'hate' during the interview and
that it appeared in quite a few places. I mean, I am
opposed to those things.

Q. To be fair to the journalist that is not in quotes, that
though, is it?
A. No, but I am just saying.

Q. What about the first sentence?
A. Hang on.
