Day 154 - 13 Jul 95 - Page 19
would fail, would they not?
A. You are making the assumption that they were hassled
off their feet which, generally, the level of work involved
was quite within people's capacity to deal with. A
pleasant parting comment would involve saying "thank you";
that would be enough for a pleasant parting comment.

Q. They are also encouraged to invite the customer to return
again, are they not?
A. They were in those days when that OCL was in operation.

Q. On the OCL there is actually, as well as the "thank you",
there are two different things: they are marked on "there
is always a thank you", and also "some pleasant parting
comment is used and asks for repeat business"?
A. Yes.

Q. They are supposed to be using hustle during all of this, as
well?
A. Is that on there?

Q. Yes, it is. "Hustle is evident"; that is another one for
three points?
A. Yes.

Q. All of the ones I have mentioned are all three marks; that
would tally with your memory, would it, that they are all
three marks each?
A. If that is what is on the OCL. I do not dispute at all
that that was the observation checklist that was used at
the time. If that is what you say, then you must be
correct.

MS. STEEL: If anybody wants to look at it, it is in
Defendants' documents 117.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Your original documents?

MS. STEEL: But the page numbers are not numbered. Yes, our
original list of documents.

MR. RAMPTON: It is my own fault, my Lord. I do not have a date
for this. I am sure there is one somewhere.

MS. STEEL: It is the fourteenth page from the back of that
tab. It is the counter observation checklist.

MR. RAMPTON: It is not that. I ask again if anybody knows what
the date of this particular one is.

MS. STEEL: I think it is around about 1986 or 1987, but I am
not sure.

MR. RAMPTON: I think it is. I agree.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you.

MR. MORRIS: Why were people below school leaving age not
allowed to work at McDonald's, I think you said -- or was
it just Colchester?
