Day 270 - 28 Jun 96 - Page 22

way. You know, what more can I say? Certainly it was a
pacifist organisation, I would say, that was my impression.

MS. STEEL: I think we are actually now going to 20th September
which is the last meeting that you attended.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, we have had one or two pauses this
morning, and so unless the stenographer specifically asks,
we will carry on until 1 o'clock. Yes.

MS. STEEL: This was the day before the writs were served and
you said in your statement that you were told you did not
need to attend after the writs had been served?
       A. That is correct, yes.

  Q. "As instructed, at 6 p.m. I arrived at the office for a
briefing before proceedings together with Michelle Hooker
to 5 Caledonian Road where we arrived just before 8 p.m. We
pushed the bell of the intercom system several times but
nobody answered it and it was a few minutes before the door
       was opened by BB."

       Who is BB?
       A. Brian Bishop.

  Q. He is one of the private investigators. You knew that he
was a private investigator at this time, Mr. Bishop, did
       you?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Presumably that is why you put his initials rather than
whatever name it was that he gave at the meetings?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So at this meeting there were three private investigators
       that you were aware of?
       A. Yes.

  Q. "We went upstairs to the office on the first floor where we
found to be already present Dave Morris, Charlie, Helen,
John and Paul Gravett, all engaged in folding leaflets and
putting them into envelopes for a "mail out". We joined in
this operation and the atmosphere was quite relaxed for
       some time."

And so on. Talking about the mail out, the fourth
       paragraph says that:

"During this operation Paul said that there was one leaflet
that had been left out. Charlie asked which one and was
told that it was the McDonald's leaflet. Charlie said "oh,
that's not all that important" or words to that effect."

If somebody had said "it is important, we must put it in",
and then had got copies of the leaflet and started putting
them in the mail out, would you have made a note of that?
       A. Yes, definitely.

  Q. Just another question on the mail out. In the notes of
Michelle Hooker for this date.... I do not know whether
