Day 143 - 27 Jun 95 - Page 44
and I would be foolhardy to start getting involved in some
of that.

Q. Does that apply to the point over the page as well for
Denmark?
A. Where are they numbered?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Denmark starts immediately below Germany and
continues on to the following page.
A. So it does.

MR. MORRIS: Do you know if 90 per cent of the Danish employees
at McDonald's at some stage in the 80s were on minimum wage
levels?
A. I knew as a general statement from our owner/operators
there that they were paying above the -- they called it "an
orange book". That was the national agreement, the
catering industry agreement, and they called it "an orange
book" -- do not ask me why they called it "an orange book",
I do not know -- but they would make reference to the fact
that their wages were higher than the "orange book".

Q. I think that is something we looked at a bit earlier on in
the questioning, that McDonald's evidence is it was
something like a krona or two kronas above the minimum.
A. I cannot tell you, from my recollection, what it was.
I just remember that they told me it was; I may have known
the specifics at that time but, boy, I have -- I cannot
recall that.

Q. But in terms of the percentage at McDonald's minimum rate,
that is not something which you have looked into?
A. The percentage of McDonald's minimum rate?

Q. McDonald's employees at their own minimum?
A. That was over the orange book?

Q. Yes, at their own minimum?
A. No. No. All I knew was that the orange book was less
-- Burger King that was following, apparently, the orange
book was paying less; that I was aware of.

Q. Regarding the central paragraph under the
Netherlands ------

MR. RAMPTON: No, my Lord, I do not think the Netherlands, I may
be wrong about that, I had better look before I speak.

MR. MORRIS: It is part of the case.

MR. RAMPTON: I shall look and see what is pleaded.

MR. MORRIS: You do not have any information about the
percentages of McDonald's staff, whether 98 per cent of the
crew would be on the McDonald's basic rates at some stage
in the 80s, you would not have looked into that?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know whether at about this time, which
is about the middle or later 80s, do you know what
percentage, if any, of the workforce in any European
