Day 133 - 12 Jun 95 - Page 14

  Q. Yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. One can see that the total number of Managers and General
Managers within the Company at that time was 442?
       A. Yes, I am sure that is right.

  Q. 430 plus 12, I think, makes 442?
       A. Oh, yes.

  Q. I can tell you that 21 out of 442 is 4.75 per cent, that is
for the black people, and that 35 out of 442, that is the
Asian people, is 7.91 per cent?
       A. Right.

  Q. The total number of blacks or Asians, that is to say,
ethnic minorities, is 56 which makes 12.67 per cent of
       442. The question I have is this: Do you know by having
looked at government information, first, what is the size
of the ethnic population, ethnic minority population, of
       this country?
       A. It is, I think, just under 5.5 per cent.

  Q. Do you know by reference to the same source of information
what is that percentage within the workforce in this
       country?
       A. Just under 5 per cent, 4.9 something.

  Q. So just over for the population at large and just under for
       people in employment?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Looking at these figures here and comparing them
particularly with the last of those figures which you have
given us, just under five per cent for employment in the
country at large, how do you feel about a figure of over
12.5 per cent amongst your Store Managers and General
       Managers?
       A. Well, I think it shows that there is a good
representation of people from ethnic minorities in our
       management ranks.

  Q. These figures are taken from the first part of 1994. Do
you know whether there are any up-to-date figures available
        -- for McDonald's, I mean?
       A. Yes, I am sure that there are.

  Q. Do you think that it has changed much from 12.5 per cent
       odd?
       A. No, it is broadly the same. I think it may have gone
up slightly but it is along those same lines.

  Q. You can take a glance at females on the way, if you like,
and I can tell you (which you may find a bit depressing)
that only 20 per cent of the Company's Store Managers and
General Managers are female. That is the second sheet,
       624 B.

MR. MORRIS: Are these national figures, can I ask?
