Day 099 - 08 Mar 95 - Page 59

       document originate?
       A. This is an industry document. This is the Sea Food
Industry Document from the Torry Research Station.

MR. MORRIS: From the what, sorry?
       A. Torry Research Station.

MR. RAMPTON: Nothing to do with politics. I think Mr. Morris
is excited because he thinks it might be something to do
with the Conservative Party, I take it.

  MR. MORRIS: T-O-R-R-Y?
       A. That is right, yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Below "c", it says "worms and other parasites", do
you see that? "Specification of product as delivered"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. It says: "Worms and other parasites. The maximum
tolerance for nematode worms is three worms per 3.2
kilograms or seven pound unit of fish flesh after the
batter and crumb has been removed. No other parasites are
permitted". Is that an industry guideline or does it
       derive from government?
       A. Well, it is an industry guideline but it is from the
Torry Research establishment which, I believe, is linked
       with MAFF.

MR. MORRIS: Can I just say, this document is not really
       identified.

THE WITNESS: There is a heading which is missing.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What has it got? Ours is cut off. Sea Fish
Industry Authority -- something. I probably have not read
       even that correctly.

MR. MORRIS: I have not got that at all.

MR. RAMPTON: With your Lordship, I can go Sea Fish Industry
       Authority but no further.

MR. MORRIS: We have not even got that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is completely cut off. You can see about
a millimetre of some kind of title at the top. Perhaps it
can be found. It just depends how it has been photocopied.
You do not have it on yours?
       A. It is cut off. There is on the top of the document
       some information.

MR. RAMPTON: If it matters, we can try to find the original.
(To the witness): Can I ask you this: How common are
these parasitic nematode worms in cod fish?
       A. They are relatively common, yes.

  Q. Are there any steps you at McDonald's or your suppliers ---
who I think they are Icelandic Foods, are they not, for
       cod?
       A. That is correct.
