Day 259 - 10 Jun 96 - Page 62

  Q. So, in the months leading up to the trial starting?
       A. Yes, a few months before, yes.

  Q. Why did you attend the court on that day?
       A. It was very near the beginning of the case, and I had
been involved in the case, and I wanted to go down and see
what was happening -- pure interest.

  Q. Were you paid to attend the case?
       A. I was not paid to attend the case. I mean, I am an
employee of Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.

  Q. Were you asked to come down here as part of your
employment; that is what I meant?
       A. I was not asked to come down here, no.

  Q. So you had a day off and you came down on your day off?
       A. No, I did not have a day off. I was at work and
I decided to spend a couple of hours at court.

  Q. And work did not mind you just taking off down to the
       High Court?
       A. No.

  Q. No objection at all?
       A. No, because I had been involved in the case.

  Q. They asked you to come down here; is that right?
       A. No, I was not asked to come down here. I wanted to
come down here, and my superiors had no problem with that.

  Q. They were not bothered about paying you to sit around doing
       nothing useful?
       A. I think it -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is a moot point, if you are professional
practice. All experience, most of all bad experience, is
useful in some way other or another. What he is saying is
it would not trouble Barlow's if he chose to drop in on a
case he had some interest in, just to watch court for a
while. (To the witness) Is that it?
       A. That is exactly right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you want to challenge that, do.

THE WITNESS: No. That is just right.

MS. STEEL: You came along; and the court was full, was it?
       A. It was very busy, yes.

  Q. Very busy?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So, there would have been people sitting here in all these
       rows?
       A. No, there was -----

  Q. They were all sitting on that half, were they?
       A. McDonald's side was much, much busier, and that is why
