Day 060 - 02 Dec 94 - Page 43

       A. I have explained to you, I am not familiar with the
       specifics of this document.

  Q. No. Do you feel it might have been helpful if you had
actually got a copy of this document sent to you from the
       United States then?
       A. If we had a landfill problem, it would have been
       helpful, yes.

  Q. But you do not know if it is only concerned with landfill,
       do you?
       A. I do not because I do not have a copy of the document.

  Q. Right, so it might have been helpful, might it not, to
actually get a copy of the document?
       A. It might have been, it might not have been -- I really
do not know because I am not familiar with the specifics.

  Q. Is it your understanding that McDonald's Corporation is
internationally concerned about the environment or is it
just only in the United States?
       A. I think around the world there are varying degrees of
concern. In the United States they were very concerned
over the landfill problem; in this country it has been
other issues; in France it has been hardly at all. So,
       there are varying degrees internationally.

  Q. What about this report? One example can be on page 274 of
that report, it talks post-consumer waste and post
industrial waste which you say you do not know -- sorry, in
terms of recycling content. Just for one example, that is
something which you said may be important but you do not
know any details about this country, do you?
       A. Is this part of ------

  Q. It is part of the official report, yes.
       A. This is part of the EDF report, yes?

  Q. Yes, official McDonald's EDF Final Report?
       A. I am not familiar with the specifics, as I told you,
       yes.

  Q. Yes. So do you now recognise that there are matters in
this report that do not relate to landfill concerns?
       A. Yes, I can see there are as we go through.

  Q. OK. If we move on to page 223, just very briefly, the
report looked at, as far as I can see -- I am trying to
find the context of this particular piece -- the page
before, talking about the implications for replacing
polystyrene foam clamshells. On page 223 at the bottom it
compares the environmental implications of polystyrene foam
with the new wraps in the States, yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Is it true it says: "Energy use - foam requires 86 per
cent more ... Air emissions - Foam produces 40 per cent
more ... Waterborne Wastes - Foam produces 80 per cent more
water discharges ... Solid waste - Foam produces four times
more solid waste", that is 400 per cent more by volume"?
