Day 104 - 15 Mar 95 - Page 72

simply a guideline, that is right, is it not?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. Do prestun shocks make any difference to the quality of the
       product?
       A. Not so far as I am aware.

  Q. Then can I ask you this: Why on earth, if you are only
interested in profit, should you bother to find equipment
that actually is effective and install it in this regard?
       A. We would not bother if that was all we were interested
       in.

  Q. Why did you bother to find equipment which had prevented
       prestun shocks?
       A. Because we do have concern for birds' welfare.

  Q. Was it a costly piece of equipment to install overall in
       the plant?
       A. No, I do not think so.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, thank you very much.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you, Dr. Pattison.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, might he finally be released?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, certainly.

                      (The witness withdrew)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will resume with Mr. Bennett at 10.30 in
       the morning.

MR. MORRIS: Is it possible to ask about what is happening about
the McKey's documents? As Mr. Bennett is coming back, it
may be relevant, I do not know. Just generally, what is
happening about them because Mr. Kenny has to come back at
       some stage.

MR. RAMPTON: He may have to.

MR. MORRIS: As far as I am concerned, he has to. I have many
questions based on the whole issue of McKey's which I have
not asked because I am awaiting the documents that have
       been asked for.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is the position with any further enquiry
       about McKey's documents?

MR. RAMPTON: Enquiries have been made, my Lord; it is in hand.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. There are members of staff and I do not
want to sit any later than we have to. So, what I would
like is if you could give some prognosis by the end of the
week as to when we may expect an answer from McKey about
it, Mr. Rampton. That would be helpful. 10.30 tomorrow
       morning.

(The court adjourned until the following day)
