Day 140 - 22 Jun 95 - Page 70
absolutely worthless.

Q. So the PUP document was not worthless then?
A. No. I got a call that there was the survey, that there
was activity in the newspapers, and what have you, and
I got an invitation from our regional manager and our human
resource person to please come in and let us talk about
what this is all about.

Q. You thought it was a front for a union organising drive,
and therefore you went down there like a ----
A. Sir, I had no idea what it was about. I had no idea
what it was about. That is the truth and that is the
essence of it, and I went in to try and figure out what it
was all about. PUP does not stand for any national union
or anything I had ever recognised in my experience.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: As I understand it, if there was a survey to
this effect no one brought it to your attention at the
time?
A. That is correct, my Lord. I do not even know what the
time was.

Q. It is -- the average income data is taken from a 1988
survey?
A. But I do not know if this was done in 1995 and taken
from '88.

Q. It says higher up, "The average income of these
neighbourhoods in 1988".
A. OK, I overlooked that, but I do not know if the report
was done in '88.

Q. Of course, one does not know that. But it would seem
pretty pointless referring to a 1988 averages if, for
instance, this was a 1994 report, would it not? Anyway, it
is not fair to ask you to comment on that. You just do not
know.

MR. MORRIS: I think that is it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. We will break off there and resume at
10.30 in the morning.
