Day 035 - 12 Oct 94 - Page 61

MS. STEEL: Is it possible we could have the original
overnight?

MR. RAMPTON: No, it is not. I have not got it. I made these
copies from pages -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I assume Mr. Cannon has got one.

MR. RAMPTON: Mr. Cannon, I imagine, must have one, yes, but he
is not my witness.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There is no harm in getting in touch with
Mr. Cannon and saying if he has got a copy can he bring it
to court. He has obviously got a very considerable
library of books, some only of which I should have thought
he brought with him when he came on the earlier occasion.

MS. STEEL: The only thing is that Professor Wheelock has
selected certain pages. We may not be able to get hold of
the rest of it before we finish re-examination of
Dr. Barnard.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That may be so, but at least you will have
Dr. Cannon to fall back on. He is the person who
introduced it in the first place.

MS. STEEL: OK, but I think in terms of it being introduced
for Dr. Barnard to be cross-examined, it should be borne
in mind that the whole of it is not there.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am well aware of that. Let us see where
we get to with it.

MR. MORRIS: Shall we put it behind Geoffrey Cannon?

MR. RAMPTON: I suggest it goes behind Mr. Cannon's statement.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will make a note, "Put last behind
Mr. Cannon's statement".

MR. RAMPTON: Dr. Barnard, the National Academy Press, is that
a government?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is immediately before divider 9.

MR. RAMPTON: Is that a government owned body, the National
Academy Press?
A. No.

Q. What is the National Academy of Sciences?
A. It is a private research body.

Q. Who are the Committee of Diet and Health?
A. It is a group appointed by the National Academy of
Sciences.

Q. What is the Food and Nutrition Board?
A. I presume that all these bodies are part of the
National Academy of Sciences.
