Day 188 - 15 Nov 95 - Page 43

which is why I asked what it was -- now we know that it was
probably patties -- is that you are not shown what it was
       in the film.

  MR. MORRIS: I see.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes. Can I go back. What I was asking you was,
it was a matter of deliberate agreement between you, the
film makers, and McDonald's that you should use two of the
       busiest restaurants in the country?
       A. Yes. We went to look at a third store which was not as
       busy as those two stores.

  Q. Is that the one in East Grinstead?
       A. When I say East Grinstead, I really cannot remember.
       We drove somewhere into Surrey.

  Q. It does not really matter at all. East Grinstead is in
       Sussex, anyway, but never mind.
       A. Well, Sussex then.

  Q. And that you tried to film, when you filmed the restaurant
       in operation, at busy times?
       A. We filmed at quiet times as well.

  Q. But what is shown in the film -- if you can remember --
seemed to be very busy times, did they not?
       A. They were the busy peak periods, yes. But it was 24
hours in the day; we did go through the whole 24 hour
       process.

  Q. Where we see scenes in the film -- and I expect you
remember these, because they are quite vivid -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we just pause a moment? (Pause) Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Where we see scenes in the film of what -- I do
not know, what do you call those descriptive bits in the
       side of a transcript?
       A. These are indicating the visuals side.

  Q. Yes, indicating the visuals?
       A. On the left-hand side, it is indicating what is
       happening visually.

  Q. Visually or orally, I suppose?
       A. No. I think this is all visually. On the left-hand
side, those comments are all describing visually, I think.

  Q. What about a word like hubbub? "General hubbub" it says?
       A. General hubbub, yes, that is -----

  Q. It is a combination, is it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. It is general description of what is being shown on the
film, where there is not any what we might call discernible
dialogue going on; is that right?
       A. Yes.
