Day 296 - 07 Nov 96 - Page 36

to say to them "unless you are very careful balancing the
rest of your diet you are going to risk your health in the
long run". That was day 15, pages 59 to 60.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How often was he talking about there, having
       that -----

MR. MORRIS: I think, if I remember, I am not sure on that day,
but he started off with one position and it was sort of
       -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I mean is ----

MR. MORRIS: It ended up the difference -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He did not say exactly what Ms. Steel has
just said, because if he had said exactly that, it would
mean if you ate one McDonald's meal you would have to be
very careful. Was it one every day or -- it was, was it
not, if you ate a McDonald's meal every day, you would have
to be very careful balancing -----

MS. STEEL: I know it was a question I put to him.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. (Pause)

MS. STEEL: We have actually got those sections of transcript
missing. We have got to bring them back.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Unless you are very careful balancing, as a
nutritionist, if you sat down -- this is your question: If
you sat down with somebody who was eating a McDonald's meal
every day, then you would need to say to them something
along the lines, unless you are very careful balancing the
rest of your diet very careful you are going to risk your
health in the long time. I think that would be fair
comment and I would say the same to anybody who decided
they wanted to have bacon and eggs for their breakfast
every day, which Mr. Rampton clearly prefers to muesli. So
it was a meal every day.

MS. STEEL: Yes. I don't think that is the only reference. I
mean, there were references to less frequently than that in
       a week.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, there are, but it was just that I
remembered that particular quote and I thought it was every
       day.

  MS. STEEL: Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause a moment. (Pause) I thought the
potential importance of that answer to you was that you do
reach a stage somewhere where you can eat enough of
McDonald's food to risk your health unless you are very
careful with the rest of your diet.

MS. STEEL: Right. I mean, again I think the point is that it
is more than likely that people are eating bacon and eggs
several times a week, maybe sometimes on the same day as
