Day 069 - 19 Dec 94 - Page 31
the tabs, while we are there? We keep going away from them
and coming back, and it is difficult to remember what has
been said about previous countries.

MR. MORRIS: Let us see if we can just get through these
documents, then.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Try and concentrate on the ones which really
you think you may have some ground on, possible export from
a rainforest country, because that is what this section is
really about, is it not?

MR. MORRIS: This questioning is, anyway, yes. It was also
about animal welfare, but I think that has largely been
covered.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I know. But your questioning on these
tabs -- I am putting aside "Jungle Burger" for a moment --
is really, if I can put it this way, to see if you can get
either evidence or anything which might point towards the
possibility of exports of beef from a rainforest country,
then you can look at what part of that rainforest country,
to any of McDonald's operations.

MR. MORRIS (To the witness): If we turn over to Panama.
Frigorifico, that is a slaughterhouse; yes?
A. No. That is a processing facility in that particular
plant. They also have a slaughterhouse separate from that
that facility, which is also called the same.

Q. So what does that say -- "Mangrafor"?
A. "Mangrafor". That is the complete name.

Q. Again, when it says "product exported to: none", does that
mean finished products?
A. That is correct.

Q. But, presumably, they export non-finished products?
A. They do. That supplier exports to -- I do not know,
but I know that it is a US DA approved facility. So they
export to the US and have the potential to export to just
about every country.

Q. Do you know of any McDonald's suppliers outside of the US
that Frigorifico export to?
A. No, I do not, no.

Q. If we move to Mexico -- I think we have generally dealt
with Mexico. We can move on from that.

Just before we leave Mexico, in Mexico is some meat from
the USA shipped to Mexico as deboned or non-finished
product? Sorry. Does meat, before the finished product in
the States, ever get moved to Mexico for deboning,
carcasses to be deboned, or whatever, and then taken back
to the United States, because of labour being cheaper in
Mexico?
A. You are speaking generally, right?

Q. In general?
