Day 103 - 14 Mar 95 - Page 45
split into three, two or three, and that would go through
the watering system fairly quickly. So, the water is
constantly being refilled by the mains supply, so there is
no need to clean out the whole system.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I do not know if we have finished this
now. I merely observe that this is very much second-time
round visiting the same houses. I am looking at the
transcript of Day 91. For example, on page 39, we had all
this stuff about a 24-hour period withdrawal period for
Amoxicillin and so on and so forth last time. I am anxious
about the time.

MS. STEEL: Going on to slaughtering, if you could get down the
Defendants' supplementary list of documents. It is one of
the blue bundles at the top. It should be Supplementary
List I, I think.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is the number at the bottom?

MS. STEEL: The one I want to refer to is No. 29.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Bundle 2. What is the document?

MS. STEEL: The Simmons Engineering document.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is in volume 2, tab 29.

MS. STEEL: Have you got that?
A. Yes.

Q. Is that the equipment that you use at Sun Valley?
A. Yes, we use the Simmons stunner, yes.

Q. How long have you been using this equipment?
A. We got a new stunner about two years ago, but the one
prior to that, I think, also was Simmons as well.

Q. How long had you had that one?
A. Oh, a long time. I am not sure how long.

Q. It says on the first page of this: "A typical amperage
used in stunning by our pulsating direct current prestunner
is approximately 12 to 15 milliamps"?
A. Yes.

Q. Did you ever use that current amperage?
A. We have -- the voltage and the amperage has already
been shown to you in documents that we have disclosed which
show that we run at 40 volts, and the average current
varies between 400 and 700 milliamps across 16 birds in a
trough.

Q. But I believe that when Dr. Gregory was giving evidence he
said he had spoken to someone at Sun Valley who said that
at one stage it was 25 milliamps that the birds would get;
is that correct?
A. Well, that may be so. I mean, as I have said to you,
I cannot really say any more clearly than I have what the
current and the voltage are.
