wherever, and then come and work at McDonald's every night
for, you know, whatever time, or they work at McDonald's
during the day and find another job to work every night.
It just depends on the person, their situation and what
they are willing and wanting to do.

  Q. Right. There are no guaranteed hours, are there, at
McDonald's, you will definitely get this amount each week?
       A. No.

  Q. If you work a shift of less than four hours, you do not get
a paid break, do you, at McDonald's?
       A. For a three and a half hours shift, you do not get a
       break at all.

  Q. You do not get a break?
       A. Right.

  Q. How many hours do you have to work to get an actual break?
       A. Four hours and whatever.

  Q. Right. So, is the main shift that you call people in on,
is that mostly a three and a half hour shift?
       A. Usually three and a half or a four and a half.

  Q. Right. What, half and half, is it, half of them are three
and a half shifts and half of them are four and a half hour
       shifts?
       A. Well, the usual shifts we give like that are scheduled
are three and a half hour shifts or four and a half hour
shift. So if -- since those are the ones that we give out
most, that McDonald's schedule the most, if they call in
sick, those are the shifts that we have to fill.

  Q. Right. Do you know any reason why people should not do
eight hour shifts? Have you discussed that with other
       managers?
       A. No.

  Q. Why the scheduling system is such short shifts?
       A. No, no. I have never discussed it with anybody. I do
       not know.

  Q. You just accept it as it is?
       A. I do.

  Q. Right. At the time of the unionisation drive -- tell me if
it is different now -- the vast majority of the staff
seemed to be under 18 or a majority of the staff at the
store seemed to be under 18, is that the case?
       A. Now?

  Q. Is it the case now or was it the case then in 1993?
       A. Most of them are under 18, just the day staff. It is
usually the day staff that are over the age of 18.

  Q. Right. Do you know what the reason is why the store wants
to employ so many people under 18?
       A. I do not think -----
