  Q. You are saying they are something that were used to keep an
eye on what kind of progress had been made?
       A. Yes, they were one of the ways that we did that.

  Q. So, presumably, they would be filed away for safety?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Could you turn to pink volume XIII, please? If you turn to
tab 57F. When the Company gets a summons to appear at a
Magistrates' Court for a matter such as this, where the
floors were not kept free from any substance likely to
cause persons to slip, is that something the Company would
       take seriously?
       A. As far as I know we do not get very many summonses to
do with safety; and, yes, we do.

  Q. You would take it seriously?
       A. Yes, I would have thought so.

  Q. Was this investigated?
       A. I really -- I do not remember.

  Q. You do not remember it?
       A. No.

  Q. Do you not know anything about it?
       A. No.

  Q. Did you not have any responsibility in this area at that
       time?
       A. Well, it is dated the end of 1990, so it is certainly
after the time of my appointment, but I just really do not
       remember.

  Q. You do not remember it?
       A. It does not ring any bells at all.

  Q. You have never seen a report into how it could come about
that the Company is being summonsed to a Magistrates' Court
       for this reason?
       A. I do not -- I just cannot remember.

  Q. This is a rare occurrence, but it does not stick out in
       your mind, you say?
       A. This particular one, no.

  Q. What about the one on the following page, at tab 57G?
       A. I think this one might relate to a prosecution to do
with an injury from a compactor.

MR. RAMPTON: I do not think it is right that Mrs. Barnes should
speculate. This is Burnley, the compactor was at Bury.

MS. STEEL: I did think I remembered Bury being admitted, but
I could not find it in the abstracts.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I would assume, if I knew nothing more about
them at all, that they were related, and that the
allegation is that the floor has become slippery for some
