Day 270 - 28 Jun 96 - Page 26

       something?
       A. Yes, I felt as though it might have been a little
obvious if I did not offer to do something.

  Q. There is something about entertainment, Charlie giving you
numbers and names of alternative entertainments. Right,
that is for the children's entertainment. Was that for you
to do bookings for the children's entertainment?
       A. Yes, I believe that is what it was, yes.

  Q. The next paragraph you have got:

"Forthcoming events were raised on the agenda and Paul
seeming to be quite enthused at the prospect advised all
present that there was to be a public meeting of the
Hackney and Islington Animal Rights Campaign on the evening
of Monday the 1st of October on the subject of "McDonald's,
Everything They Don't Want You to Know", and he was to be
the guest speaker as representative of the subject group."

What do you mean by "advised all present"?
       A. I cannot actually remember this happening, but looking
at my report, it seems to me that he was reporting that
this is what he was going to be doing as reports were often
made about activities that different people were involved
in. So he was informing the rest of the members of the
group that that is what he was going to be doing.

  Q. Right. I mean, if there had been a decision made that he
should be representing the group or, you know, anything
like that, would you have made a note of such a decision?
       A. Yes, I tried to be quite careful about how things
occurred, so I think I would have put it down in that way
if that is the way it had happened, yes.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, a few final questions. The one thing at the
very beginning you said in the note is you said you were
not told to put any leaflets in the letter that you
answered. Do you remember you answered a letter?
       A. The letter that I took, yes.

  Q. It is in your statement, sorry. So can you just explain
       what you meant by that?
       A. By not being told, you are saying?

  Q. How would you answer a letter, what was the process?
       A. I am not quite sure. I cannot remember what the letter
was about. But, as far as I can remember, it was just to
contact the people or person who had written, but certainly
nobody was instructing me to do anything. It was just
something that I volunteered to do. So nobody said do this
       and do that.

  Q. So what leaflets, if any, would you put in the mail out?
Did someone tell you what leaflets should be put in or did
no one tell you or did someone say not to put any leaflets
       in?
       A. Well, that letter was not part of the mail out.

  Q. No, in that letter that you answered, how did you decide
