Day 094 - 01 Mar 95 - Page 76

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I might put those behind Ms. Hovey's
statement.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, my Lord, that would do very well.

Finally this, my Lord: You will remember that Mr. Walker
produced what he called, or I called, shipping documents
relating to the Brazilian beef in 1983/4. They have now
been put in the correct order by McKey's and there is with
them an explanatory letter from Mr. Walker to
Mrs. Brinley-Codd. I am not suggesting it is evidence, but
it does enable one to understand the documents.

MS. STEEL: I have one document which I got last night which
Mr. Riley very kindly copied today. It is in relation to
something that Dr. Gomez Gonzalez said yesterday. So,
I might ask him about it tomorrow.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to hand up a copy of that now?

MS. STEEL: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I will do is I will read all of these
documents overnight, just out of interest.

MR. RAMPTON: They will not take very long.

MS. STEEL: Perhaps if Mr. Dr. Gomez Gonzalez could read that
overnight?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is there anything else tonight?

MR. RAMPTON: Not as far as I am concerned, my Lord, except
again if there is a risk that Dr. Gomez Gonzalez will not
finish tomorrow, so be it -- I hope that he would do -- but
what is urgent is whether I know that there is going to be
so much run over that I need to put Mr. Bowes off.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Morris was hopeful that he would finish
tomorrow. So, what I suggest is that if you decide to put
him off, there will be no criticism from me but if, on the
other hand, you are prepared to hold on to him until lunch
time at least tomorrow, it would certainly be much
appreciated by me if you can finish tomorrow and especially
if you can finish in time to let Mr. Rampton re-examine.
But even if there is a bit left over there might be
sufficient of Friday to make Mr. Bowes worthwhile. If you,
Mr. Rampton, decide to put him off, then we they go back to
some loose procedural ends on Friday.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, put it like this, if by lunch time
tomorrow -- I will not put him off at the moment -- it is
apparent that the Defendants have another two hours or so
on Friday morning, I will probably put him off because
otherwise he is going to be cut in half again. If, on the
other hand, they finish or are likely to finish tomorrow
evening -- at the moment I have only twenty minutes or half
an hour's re-examination -- then I would suggest that he
came down and started round about 11 o'clock.
