Day 013 - 19 Jul 94 - Page 25
1 know what was in the front, in the back of it at the
meeting that I did not attend.
2
Q. "From a perception standpoint I think we can gain
3 credibility and even praise for talking about it and
indicating a willingness to go system wide as soon as
4 possible". "We can gain credibility and even praise"; is
that the reason that you think McDonald's should bring in
5 things like salads to gain credibility and even praise?
A. I think, my personal opinion, once again not having
6 attended this meeting, is that credibility and praise are
good things.
7
Q. Yes, but what about health of customers?
8 A. About what?
9 Q. Health of customers?
A. That is important.
10
Q. Is that important?
11 A. Yes.
12 MR. JUSTICE BELL: You may not necessarily see them as being
inconsistent.
13
MR. MORRIS: He does not seem to be concerned about health of
14 customers when he is talking about salads.
15 MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is entirely up to you. The more you ask
questions about a memo written by someone else, which at
16 the moment stands on its own for such inferences I am
prepared to draw from it, the more you risk getting
17 unfavourable answers. It is entirely a matter for you.
Ms Steel has just asked that he does not say this is
18 inaccurate in any way. There is absolutely no evidence at
the moment that it is an inaccurate record. Maybe there
19 will be. But there is not any at the moment.
20 MR. MORRIS: I will leave it and go on to the advertising
campaign.
21
MS. STEEL: I think you said the advertising campaign in 1987,
22 the one that was the subject of dispute, sorry, the second
one, that was the subject of the dispute?
23 A. We are talking about ----
24 Q. Not the chicken McNuggetts one, the other one.
A. The one that started at the beginning of the year?
25
Q. Yes.
26 A. Yes.
27 Q. You say that the advertisements were intended to draw
attention to the "Food - the Facts" booklet?
28 A. That is correct; that was one of the intentions.
29 Q. Which you said that booklet gives detailed information
about the nutritional value of the food served in the
30 restaurants?
A. That is correct.
