the feeding cost; it depends on the installation cost; it
is also a matter of economics; it is a matter of offer and
demand; whether or not you have replacements; what is the
cost of the replacement birds. There are a lot of factors
       here.

  Q. So it is generally the economic factors that are taken into
        ---
       A. That is correct.

  Q. -- account. The birds cannot flap their wings in the
       battery cages, can they?
       A. They can. The tips will touch one side or the sides.

  Q. What, even when there are four of them in a cage together?
       A. When there are four, no.

  Q. No?
       A. No.

  Q. If there were two in cage together, they would not be able
to do it either, would they?
       A. No, they can. They will hit the tips of the cages,
       yes.

  Q. What about the other bird?
       A. Usually, there are one in front of the other, unless
they are side by side, yes, they cannot.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Are all batteries an absolutely standard
       size?
       A. They are pretty much about the same, yes. There,
obviously, are variations depending on the countries and
the environment, but they are pretty much standard.

MS. STEEL: The cages have a wire floor as well?
       A. Wide floor?

  Q. Wired floor?
       A. Wire -- oh, yes.

  Q. The birds do not have any dust for dust bathing or anything
       like that?
       A. No.

MR. MORRIS: Could I ask a couple of questions before lunch?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, pick a moment to stop.

MR. MORRIS: When you say the cages are stocked with two birds
-- this is, presumably, in Tysons, is it, that you know
about -- why do they not stock more in those cages?
       A. The environment. Tysons are a dedicated supplier.
They are located in Arkansas in the United States. During
the summer it gets hot and humid. So, if you put three,
then it affects production. So, that it is a matter of
       economics.

  Q. Debeaking, you said, does not cause pain. If it did cause
pain, would you specify it should not be done?
