Day 133 - 12 Jun 95 - Page 25
reasons. Why has it got "dismissal" or "disml" or whatever
it stands for? Do you know why it has been translated in
that way?
A. Yes, because that would be if someone is dismissed on
grounds of incapability.

Q. I see.
A. Due to ill-health -- capability of that sort.

Q. But the remaining ones, (24) through to (28), appear to be,
as it were, dismissals for disciplinary reasons; is that
right?
A. Yes.

Q. Breaches of Company's rules or policies? If you start from
(24) and go through to (28) they amount to under 11 per
cent, I think?
A. Right.

Q. Do you regard those ones, the reasons for termination by
dismissal, as being reliable statistics or not?
A. Yes, I think so because the Manager would know,
obviously, if a dismissal had occurred.

Q. I suppose the same might be said of the remaining six, (29)
to (34), which anyway only amount to just over 1 per cent
of the total. Given, Ms. Mead, that those figures cannot
be regarded as being 100 per cent reliable because you may
find dissatisfaction within both "personal" and the
"without notice" categories in the previous section, what
other methods are there for the Company to find out what
the true state of affairs is so far as contentment and
satisfaction are concerned?
A. The principal areas are probably in the rap session and
the opinion survey.

Q. And the?
A. The opinion survey.

Q. The opinion survey. I would like us to have a look, if we
may, first of all, at volume X which you have there
somewhere, I think? Your Lordship will tell me when I
should stop.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If now is convenient?

MR. RAMPTON: There is a little bit of reading.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, do you want to set that in motion
beforehand?

MR. RAMPTON: I do not mind.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, we will resume in five minutes.

(Short Adjournment)

MR. RAMPTON: Have you got volume X there, Ms. Mead?
A. Yes.
