Day 093 - 28 Feb 95 - Page 63

MR. MORRIS: I think with Dr. Gomez Gonzalez, unfortunately he
is the only person we can ask about animal welfare and
       hygiene.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am well aware of the fact that he is the
person employed by McDonald's whom you can ask questions of
in relation to the practices in the United States and some
parts of the world in relation to animal welfare and to
some extent in relation to hygiene.

MR. MORRIS: I think if I just ask one question on cattle which
is to save time. McDonald's does not have any policy that
is left up to the suppliers, you said that before, as far
as the slaughter techniques or conditions are concerned?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. If we move on to hygiene, we could usefully look at the
Tysons' document. I have the numbers but I do not know
where they are. This was the 127 page Tysons report we got
from the US DA. I do not know if they were put in the
       witness -----

MR. RAMPTON: Mr. Morris, constantly on the prowl for
co-operation, has given a list of where all these documents
are to be found. My Lord, it is in Defendants'
       supplementary documents bundle V.

MR. MORRIS: It should be at the front of the bundle. It should
be 127 or something pages of sanitation.
       A. I think I have it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When you say "supplementary five" ----

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, the witness's version of that is right at
the back behind the Defendants' documents.

MR. MORRIS: Do you want to turn to page 58, please?
       A. Yes.

  Q. This is a sample document here. Have you seen these kinds
       of documents before?
       A. Yes, I have.

  Q. This is the US DA monitoring of process plants, yes?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. I think we looked at it briefly when Mr. Rampton was
       questioning you?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. If we just look at the top row of inspection tasks, it
says: "Scheduled", "Unscheduled", Performed" it is the
"Performed" column that is the actual number of tests
       done, is it?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. Then it says: "Total minor", "Total major", "Total
critical"". These are lapses in procedures, are they, and
whether they are minor, major or critical?
