Day 207 - 23 Jan 96 - Page 62

MR. MORRIS: Apparently, it refers to page 304, but I cannot
       find the employee number.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, Clare woods is on page ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, Clare Woods?
       A. 004.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just tell me what has gone on there. The
clock card file has shown that she has clocked in at 7.55,
although there is an asterisk, so we have to look somewhere
else to follow that. But she took a break -- well, you
tell me, because I am looking at the head of the columns
now. If you think you understand it, Mr. Morris, put it to
the witness, the point you are seeking to make, because at
the moment it is totally incomprehensible to me.

MR. MORRIS (To the witness): Mr. Henden, can you throw any
light on what has happened to Clare Woods?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I mean, it has "day out time" at the top of
       the 7.55 column.

MR. MORRIS: I cannot find badge No. 0741 at all.
       A. It is Matthew Tilley, four down.

  Q. What page is that on?
       A. That is Thursday, 304.

  Q. 304 Tilley, yes. Is there a column missing?
       A. I think that -----

  Q. The in time is missing on page 304, is it?
       A. I think so. It should head up like 303.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Look, if you look at Clare Woods at the
bottom of the page, if what it meant was that she clocked
in at 9.43, took a break immediately for 34 minutes and
then left at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, I would understand
       it.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, that makes sense.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But I have a problem with 7.55. What I do
not know is, in any event, what the adjustment audit report
       means in relation to her.

MR. MORRIS: I mean, to be fair -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Unless all it is doing is correcting 7.55 to
say that was a complete error, so that it has a day in time
of 7.55 and the new data is clocked as both in and out
thereby eliminating it in some way on the computer program,
so that all that is left is 9.43, 9.44, 10.18 and 1600.
But that is pure speculation on my part.

MR. MORRIS: It seems sensible to me.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But do you know -- let us take another one.
