Day 277 - 10 Jul 96 - Page 41

       A. Do you want me to read it all?

  Q. I would just like you to look at the end of it really.
       Have you seen it before?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And you remember, you said you did not know anything about
the case then did you not?
       A. I said I do not know anything about the specific action
       and what had happened.

  Q. You do not want to revise your answer in the light of that
       document?
       A. No.

  Q. No. All right. Thank you. No, no, Mr. Riley, sorry.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You pick a moment, Mr. Rampton.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, that will be convenient. I will come
back to this page at 159.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, two o'clock then.

                      (Luncheon adjournment)

MR. RAMPTON: Miss Steel, you told us yesterday that there were
people in the group who were -- sorry, it was not
yesterday, it was on 8th July. People in the group who
were strict pacifists. Do you remember that?
       A. Yes, people who did not believe that -- say, for
example, you were being attacked in the street or something
like that, that you should use violence even in those
circumstances to defend yourself, yes? That is what I
understand by strict pacifist, but you said there were
others who were not in that category?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Then you said obviously no one was in favour of violence
       except in self-defence?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Can you go back to tab 5 of pink 1A and look at the last
sentence of the first page, which is page 159?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Where it says, "Some of us go further and would support
violent resistance to oppression, for example the uprising
by people on Broadwater Farm in 1985"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you categorise that as self-defence?
       A. Well, I was not there so I do not really know, but I
mean, I -- obviously, living in Tottenham I have heard, for
example, the Broadwater Farm defence campaign making
statements saying that the people were acting in
       self-defence of their community.

  Q. So, if PC Blakelock was hacked to death by a mob at
       Broadwater Farm in October 1985?
