Day 074 - 16 Jan 95 - Page 57

Smith was there, Nigel Parton was there, Peter Isles was
there. I do not remember -- Tony Jeff was there I think
       and Philip Cobden I think.

  Q. Are those people from head office, are they?
       A. Yes, they are.

  Q. Did you get a report of that meeting?
       A. I was present at the meeting myself.

  Q. You were present?
       A. I was present at the meeting.

  Q. At head office, was it?
       A. No. It was done at Kings Road.

  Q. At Kings Road, so were there concerns expressed about
       environment/index.html">litter at that meeting?
       A. No, there were no concerns about the environment/index.html">litter at all at
       the meeting.

  Q. That was not discussed; it was not relevant, it was not on
       the agenda?
       A. No. The meeting was called at the request of
Dr. Taylor. I am not sure who arranged the meeting, but
I was told there was a meeting with Dr. Taylor and to be
       present at the meeting.

  Q. So what was discussed then?
       A. Different things like smell.

  Q. OK, we will miss that out then. If we go back to the
letter actually of Dr. Taylor, 772 to 773, this is in 1992
end of, on 773 Dr. Taylor is saying, "The clearing of
rubbish around the premises is generally good". Read it
through, read those two paragraphs through on your own.
       A. Yes, I have read it.

  Q. So, is that a fair summary of the situation as you see it
       as well?
       A. No. It was made clear that a lot of shopkeepers, they
stacked their bags outside and we were not to clear but to
stack them outside, because they were, as they said, the
Council lorries, the Council have collected the bags. The
Council bags have got special tape which is on put on to
the bins and on our bags there is no Council tape at all
because it was collected by the private collector of
       rubbish.

  Q. Going back to the environment/index.html">litter problem, when he says, "Nothing
can apparently stop some of your customers throwing rubbish
into our residents' basement areas or dropping rubbish some
distance away from No. 49 outside the range of your
patrols", is that something that really you feel you cannot
       do anything about?
       A. No. If somebody drops environment/index.html">litter in the street that is why
we have environment/index.html">litter patrol to make sure we pick them up.

  Q. But if it ends up in the basement, then you cannot really
       be responsible?
