MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will hear your argument in due course.
Mr. Rampton is cross-examining as to the basis of what has
gone into the witness's statement which the witness has
       averred to be true.

MS. STEEL: Can I just say, it is also relevant to the fact of
the impression that Mr. Alimi got with regard to the
Company's attitude towards trade unions but -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: This is legal argument. All I am doing is
listening to a cross-examination at the moment. Where it
takes me may well be a matter for argument in due course.

MR. RAMPTON: Mr. Alimi, please turn to page 5.
       A. OK.

  Q. The second paragraph, I do your pardon: "With regard to
the story", do you see that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. About the rumour that McDonald's had closed a store
somewhere. You say you got it from your sister. What
position did your sister hold at McDonald's at Woolwich?
       A. She was a crew member.

  Q. Over the page, please, page 6, the second paragraph:
"I knew of cases", do you have that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You see that you have put that in the plural: "I knew of
cases where employees in my store worked as much as 26
       hours in a row"?
       A. That is right.

  Q. You told us this morning about Tracy Milleine?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Tell us about Steve Harney; how do you know that he worked
       26 hours in a row?
       A. Steve Harney told me that -- he told me that himself.

  Q. He told you that himself?
       A. That is right.

  Q. He was what then, a crew member or a Floor Manager?
       A. He was a Floor Manager.

  Q. You did not witness him -----
       A. He did actually tell me. I mean, he became a Floor
Manager before I started work there, but he did tell me
that he did work the same hours or similar hours before he
became a Floor Manager there as a crew member.

  Q. That is what he told you; is that right?
       A. That is right.

  Q. Thank you.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is the first complete paragraph, is it?
