Day 173 - 16 Oct 95 - Page 30

MS. STEEL: I do not know whether it matters at all, actually.
I am trying to get to where he was from, because there
seems to be this conflicting documentation, that is all.

MR. MORRIS: I think the witness's evidence was that he came
       from the US, anyway.

(To the witness) Just regarding Mr. Stein, you said he
came to advise you on legal matters. How could he give you
any advice if he knew nothing about Irish labour laws?
       A. I think his experience and his knowledge.

  Q. Experience with what, sorry?
       A. His experience with understanding the law. He was able
to understand much quicker and much clearer than I would
       the legal points.

  Q. Mr. Stein said in evidence that he worked on the injunction
matter against the picketing. Does that help to locate how
long into the strike he would have actually arrived?
       A. Well, again, I cannot recollect exactly when Mr. Stein,
you know, came to Dublin, except that I can remember him
helping and dealing with the barrister and the solicitor as
       regards the injunctions.

  Q. So would that have been roughly the same time as
       Steve Copeland was around?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Were they there together ever, that you
       recall; may they have been?
       A. I think they may have been later on when there were
further injunctions sought; particularly, there were some
injunctions later, in later months, a month or so later; it
       may have been then.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If I might suggest, I think you have taken
       that far enough.

  MR. MORRIS: Yes.

MS. STEEL: The new documents that were served the other day,
I do not know whether you still have them to hand? They
       were at tab 59A.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: They are towards the end of divider 59.

THE WITNESS: 59A? Yes, I have it.

MS. STEEL: The first two pages appear to be part of the same
document, and then there are two other pages with wage
rates. The rates are not consistent throughout all three
documents. You would not happen to know why that might be?
       A. Are you referring to page 1?

  Q. Well, comparing, for example, pages 1, 3 and 4, or 2, 3 and
4, the wage rates are not consistent that are recorded
there; some of them are the same, but others -----
       A. I do not recall why they would be different.
