Day 155 - 14 Jul 95 - Page 45
MR. MORRIS: The Supervisor came to the store because you called
him because of the union leaflets that you found?
A. That is not true.

Q. Even though you claim it was an announced visit, you did
not alert the staff to his coming down there?
A. I do not need to alert any staff at all if I am going
to be in the restaurant. If I am not in the restaurant,
I will alert my Assistant Manager just out of common
courtesy so that he is there.

Q. You wanted to discuss with Peter Tassell what to do about
this union drive that was going on in your store ---
A. No, I did not.

Q. -- because the Company is paranoid from top to bottom about
trade unions?
A. I am not aware of that.

Q. Just to go back to the details of the incident, you said
you did not read the leaflets in detail. This is a direct
quote: "The leaflets had information inviting the staff to
start a union at the Seven Sisters restaurant." Then you
later said that the leaflet or a copy of it was put up on
the notice board. You said it was tatty or something or
other. Did the leaflets look like they had been hand
done? Were they designed in a sort of -- can you remember
what you saw?
A. No, I really cannot remember.

Q. But they were related to, specifically angled to the staff
at the Seven Sisters restaurant?
A. Again I am not aware of that; whether they were generic
ones, I do not know.

Q. That is what you said in your statement, "inviting staff to
start a union at the Seven Sisters restaurant", but you
cannot remember now?
A. I just assumed that because they were in Seven Sisters
it was Seven Sisters. It did not actually specify that it
was Seven Sisters alone.

Q. The locker incident as outlined by our witness -----

MR. RAMPTON: I think you must say the "alleged locker
incident".

MR. MORRIS: No, I said "the incident as outlined by our
witness" which is or will be evidence in the case.
(To the witness): May it refresh your memory, or trigger
your memory, if we separated that from the one that you do
remember about the leaflets which you say you found chucked
away, was there any other time, maybe not the same day, in
which somebody, in this case Dave Magee but you do not
remember him specifically, complained about their locker
being broken in to?
A. There have been incidents when crew members have told
me that they have had money stolen out of their locker or
whatever, OK, and in a scenario like that, the only thing
that you could possibly do is maybe ask three, four, five
