your right to join a union".

MR. MORRIS: It is just that Sabina said: "He said it was up to
us to decide whether wanted a union".

  THE WITNESS: Right.

MR. MORRIS (To the witness): Entirely ---
       A. He was not.

  Q. -- the crew's decision?
       A. It was our choice.

  Q. Your choice. When Mr. Ballantyne petitioned the Labour
Court that people under 18 should not have a right to join
a union, did you feel betrayed, misinformed and lied to by
Mr. Ballantyne when you found out about it?
       A. I was not under 18 so it really did not bother me at
       all.

  Q. It did not bother that other people who had previously said
at a meeting of all the staff that it was their choice to
       join a union ---
       A. That is his right to say -----

  Q. -- had been lied to and misinformed?
       A. That is his right to say how he feels. I cannot say
why he did that or why he did not do it. I do not know why
he said it, and I do not know how everybody else feels
       about it.

  Q. Do you have any views about it?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know what the law is in Canada or in
       Ontario?

MR. MORRIS: I do not know. I know that that was not resolved
at that hearing, because of the agreement to take a vote.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I mean, I do not know either.

MR. MORRIS: I am sure if it had been -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There are some pretty restrictive practices
in Canada. You are not supposed to go into a bar and buy a
beer -- or you were not some years ago -- until you were
21; so there is a trade in forged driving licences, as a
result. I am not going to assume that things are the same
in Orangeville, Ontario, as they are here in London.
I just do not know. I have assumed that you can join a
union under 18, because otherwise I would have thought that
       ---

MR. MORRIS: It would have been a clear law -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- it would just say clearly that they cannot
join because they are under 18; it would not be a matter of
argument. I just raise it in case there is any doubt about
it at the end of the day.
