3 Q. When you say that in your statement there, you are
4 referring to pickets within the last year, year and a half?
5 A. Yes.

8 A. Those I am sure of.

10 Q. When did the leaflet that is the subject of this action
11 first come to your attention?
12 A. Nineteen eighty something, I do not know, 6, 7, I am
13 not sure the exact date. I think I was given one by a
14 visiting franchisee from the United States, or sent one by
15 one of those people. I do not remember the exact date.

17 Q. Actually I do remember now what year. You were part of
18 discussions on what steps to take in order to stop
19 publication of the leaflet that is the subject of this
20 action?
21 A. Was I part of discussions? Yes, I was part of
22 discussions.

24 Q. Yes. Was it your initiative?
25 A. Yes, I think it probably was.

27 Q. Right. Who did you meet with to discuss what steps to
28 take?
29 A. Well, I talked about it internally with members of the
30 Company.

32 Q. With who?
33 A. My Communications Department, Sid Nicholson, other
34 security people, the operating people of the Company, what
35 was happening in the stores, what questions they were
36 getting when these leaflets were handed out. I certainly
37 spoke with my North American colleagues about it and had
38 been approached about the leaflet by numerous Managing
39 Directors from the various McDonald's companies around the
40 world.

42 Q. When you were actually sitting down discussing what you
43 were going to do to stop the leaflet, who was present at
44 those discussions?
45 A. Primarily internal British people, I believe, from my
46 company here in the UK, me, Sid, possibly Terry Carroll, or
47 one of his staff, certainly someone from Communications.
48 I do not think Mike Love was part of the company back
49 then. I think that was before his time.

51 Q. Do you remember when he joined the Company?
52 A. Mike has been with us 2, 2 and a half years, I think, 2
53 and a quarter years.

55 Q. Right. What were the steps that you decided to take then
56 to stop the publication of the leaflet?
57 A. To try and find out first and foremost who was behind
58 it. When we found out that it was emanating from an
59 address on Caledonian Road, made contact, as I recall, and
60 we were ignored. Certainly the decision to go forward was
