Day 272 - 02 Jul 96 - Page 49

MR. MORRIS: It is all right.

MR. RAMPTON: I am going to come back to this document in more
detail later, Mr. Gravett, but for the moment I would just
like you to look at the first paragraph.
       A. Yes.

  Q. "Tuesday, October 16th, United Nations world food day will
again be World Day of Action Against McDonald's. This will
be the eighth day of action. The first was way back on
       January the 19th, 1985".

Are you the author of this document? I think you said you
       were.
       A. Yes, I am.

  Q. Was there one day of action annually or sometimes two?
       A. In 1985 I believe there were three.

  Q. Right.
       A. One in January, one in April, one in October.
Thereafter that there was one per year.

  Q. Right. So one in '86, that makes four; one in '87, that
makes five; one in '88, that makes six; and one in '89
makes seven; plus one for 1990 makes eight. Is that right?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So there was undoubtedly a day of action both in 1987 and
       1988?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And I expect London Greenpeace, because it was a London
Greenpeace event so far as McDonald's was concerned, did
everything it could to make sure that the day of action was
as effective as possible throughout this country?
       A. Well, we had sent -- we did a mail out to local groups
informing them of the day of action.

  Q. Now, I want to ask you about something else. You said this
morning, Mr. Gravett, in effect this, I think; that it was
not the practice of London Greenpeace to take the 6-sided
fact sheet on demonstrations in bulk. Is that right?
       A. Yes.

  Q. The last time you did that, I think you told us, was in
       January 1987?
       A. Yes, to the best of my knowledge that was last time it
       was done by London Greenpeace.

  Q. And you said it became after that, it became too costly?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You said in relation to the Hackney and Islington Animal
Rights meeting on 2nd October 1990 that the fact sheet was
no longer available in quantity at that time so it would
not have been there. Do you remember that?
       A. Well, I would not have taken it there.

  Q. No. And you said that you do not remember piles of the
