Day 006 - 05 Jul 94 - Page 19

     1 Q. Do they make a report?
              A. I think so, yes.
     2
         Q. And where is the report sent to?
3 A. To the operation hierarchy, regional manager, quite
possibly the market manager -- several folks will get
     4 involved with it.

5 Q. If there is anything found in those reports that are
troublesome or against company policy, or whatever, would
6 that information be collated in some form?
              A. I doubt it. They would be treated as individual
7 stores, as they are in every other respect. They are
individual profit centres. They stand on their own two
8 feet. If there is a manager in store who is doing it
right or not doing it right, he or she rests on their own
     9 laurels.

10 Q. So transgressions of policies with regard to employment of
young people are not monitored nationally?
11 A. Well, they are monitored but I certainly do not know
of any national summary, no. I am not sure there have
12 been any in 10 or 12 years.

13 Q. Those were individual cases of prosecutions but -- does it
not bother you that there are no national statistics or
14 monitoring reports on transgressions by local stores?
              A. You and I have been down this before. It does not
15 bother me one bit. I do not think it is necessary.

16 Q. OK. If we go to -- sorry, before we go to a particular
document, do national officials send out memos to local
17 stores on what the laws are with regard to, say,
              employment of young people?
18 A. There is a document which appears in every restaurant
talking about employment laws. I think it comes out -- it
19 used to come out from the head office. It may very well
now come out from the regional offices. I am not sure who
20 really sends it. I know it is there.

21 Q. But who is the person in the corporation whose
responsibility it is to keep stores informed on the law?
    22 A. Human resources.

23 Q. With regard to employment of young people, human
              resources?
    24 A. Human resources.

25 Q. Who is the person?
              A. It is Carmel Flatley.
    26
         Q. Right. How long has she been employed by the company?
27 A. Well, I think I hired her back in the late 1970s
maybe. She must have been around 15 years, 12 years,
28 something like. That I do not know exactly. It has been
              a while.
    29
         Q. Can I just ask, is she a witness in this case? Does
    30 anybody know?
