Day 121 - 04 May 95 - Page 53
A. Well, yes. No, I mean -----

Q. That is not compulsory?
A. Yes, it is.

Q. It does not sound very compulsory?
A. No, but it is, it is.

Q. I mean, is this a policy?
A. No, this is a policy -- well, it was a policy. I
cannot say it is -- it was.

Q. Is this one of the policies that it is acceptable to breach
on ---
A. No.

Q. -- given certain circumstances?
A. It would be extremely inexcusable for us to allow young
people to be walking home. The reason this is a policy is
because in many, many places there is no public transport,
and we have a responsibility to get our crew people safely
home late at night. That is where it stems from.

Q. No manager reading this memo would take that as a
compulsory matter, would they?
A. Yes, I think they would; they know what the policy
was.

Q. Is that policy written down anywhere?
A. Oh, I do not know. It was well involved when I took
over the Personnel Department. I do not know when it
started. I would have thought way back in, perhaps, 74.
I do not know.

Q. But you do not remember seeing any reminders being sent out
---
A. No.

Q. -- for managers that might have joined since 1974?
A. It is a policy that gets handed down. Do not forget,
nobody starts as a Restaurant Manager. They all start as a
trainee.

Q. Just while we have this page open, according to No. 5,
there is no longer any requirement to keep records on
excess hours worked ---
A. Yes.

Q. -- nor is there "any requirement to display Form H or the
Offices Shops and Railway Act Form. These should be
disposed of." So, you do not want the managers to keep
records of excess hours worked any more?
A. They still get that.

Q. Why are you disposing of the forms then?
A. Because they were no longer -- there was no longer a
requirement for Form H to be kept. At that time there was
a legal requirement for Form H to be displayed in every
restaurant.
