Day 072 - 12 Jan 95 - Page 36

       A. Yes.

  Q. But you felt that the system that you say was in operation
was effective or what do you say?
       A. Sorry, how do you mean by "effective"? What sort of
measurement would I take on that?

  Q. You said you did not feel there was a need for a change in
       the system?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Why was that?
       A. Well, I felt that from the limited complaints that we
had had, and from the opinion of my other managers and
myself, that we were containing the problem. As I said
before, we could not solve the problem but I felt that we
were doing everything that we could possibly do within our
means to try to control the problem, to try to help, help
to keep the community not environment/index.html">litter-free but try to keep the
community a bit tidier anyway, a bit more environment/index.html">litter-free, and
the aim was not to solve the problem 100 per cent. That
       was my conclusions.

  Q. Can you turn to page 781 of pink V? The paragraph after
the part that has been blanked out: "I am informed by
Stacey Stump that environment/index.html">litter patrols are being undertaken every
15 minutes". You say that you did not say that to
       Mr. Cobden?
       A. Yes, I mean, I would not accept that because it would
not have been true. We would not have completed them every
       15 minutes.

  Q. Where did he get that idea from, do you think?
       A. I cannot comment. I would take it as a mistake.

  Q. When you saw this letter did you contact him to tell him it
       was wrong?
       A. I cannot recall whether I did or not. I know
I mentioned it to my immediate superior which is the way
the company works. We were completing them half an hour,
       not 15 minutes.

  Q.   Mr. Cobden made sure that a copy of this was sent to you;
at least your name is on the list for a copy to be sent to
       you?
       A. That is right, yes.

  Q. So you could have contacted him, you could have written to
him and said: "You have got it wrong", could you not?
       A. I could have, yes.

  Q. Would it concern you that incorrect information with your
name attached to the particular part that was incorrect was
       being sent to local residents?
       A. I am sure it would have, yes.

  Q. Especially the chairman of the local residents association?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There are still two separate residents
