Day 274 - 04 Jul 96 - Page 13
McDonald's campaign during this time during the time I was
in the group, nor did he organise the antiMcDonald's fayre
although he was involved on the day. Helen Steel attended
meetings fairly regularly throughout the 1989 to 1990
period, but was also never heavily involved with the
McDonald's campaign, though by this time the McDonald's
campaign consisted of not much more than calling for an
antiMcDonald's day and organising the antiMcDonald's fayre
with even the fayre being renamed the London Greenpeace
fayre by 1990 because we wanted to widen the range of
issues the fayre covered".

Can I just ask you a couple of things about, you have got
"heavily involved" in quotes, and you have also got a
comment in the third paragraph about "there weren't any
lead persons", and that is in quotes?
A. Yes.

Q. Is there a reason for that?
A. Yes, they are quotes from the witness's statement, the
infiltrator's statement, A, B, C and D as it was at the
time. So I think "heavily involved" is from Alan Claire's
statement. That is why it is in inverted commas.

Q. So, you saw those statements before you made your
statement?
A. Yes.

Q. "I never heard Helen or Dave say that they helped write the
McDonald's fact sheet. I remember it being said at
meetings on several occasions that the person who wrote the
fact sheet had ceased to be involved with the group,
certainly at least a year or two before I became involved.
McDonald's inquiries were kept in a separate mail drawer.
They would usually be dealt with by a few people who were
more involved with the antiMcDonald's campaign. This was
not Helen or Dave. The fact sheet would not normally be
used for general inquiries and the group. I remember the
subject being discussed at meetings of whether to enclose
McDonald's fact sheets or an A5 leaflet in enquiries not
specific to McDonald's and also which types should be
handed out on pickets. The fact sheet was more expensive
to print and there were not many copies left, and it was
generally felt that it was better to use the A5 leaflets
except when people were asking for more information. The
filing cabinet in the office was not packed with leaflets,
it contained old letters and magazines. There were boxes
of various leaflets in the office, including A5 McDonald's
leaflets, but, as I have said, there were not many copies
of the fact sheet left. I was at the picket of McDonald's
head office on 16th October 1989 and I did not see Helen
handing out any leaflets."

That is dated 27th July 1993. Is that your signature
there?
A. Yes, it is.

Q. Are you happy for that to stand as your evidence in this
case?
A. Yes.
