Day 184 - 06 Nov 95 - Page 30

challenging what our witness was saying.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I dare say. Keep it in mind anyway because
when in a few months' time you come to address me on
employment, I am not saying Orangeville will not be
important one way or another, but it will be one of 100
employment matters which one has to consider.

MR. MORRIS (To the witness): The unionisation drive in,
       whatever it was, September/October, August/September 1993,
yes, and we have seen all the statements of the
intervenors, which I presume you have read anyway or at the
time, yes, to the Labour Court, yes?
       A. Are you talking about our intervention or Sarah's
       trying to -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, the letters which we have got which you
       and the ----
       A. The 22 letters?

  MR. MORRIS: Yes.
       A. I have not read all of them.

  Q. Right. But, OK, I just ask you a general question then.
Sarah was the main person from the store who was organising
this unionisation drive, is that your understanding?
       A. From my understanding, Sarah was the main union
organizer. Like, she was the one signing, you know,
talking to everyone and getting them to sign cards. She
       was the main one.

  Q. She would be the one making the phone calls or going to see
       people -----
       A. There were other people as well, but she was the main
       one.

  Q. She would do the bulk of it herself in talking to people
       and phoning people up?
       A. She would do a lot of it, but there were other people
doing it as well. She had a lot of people helping her.
Like, she had, you know, Chris Morrison. He was calling
       people as well.

  Q. Do you recall -- just one question that is a side issue
really -- Sarah Ingliss being Store Employee of the Month
during 1992, one of the months in 1992?
       A.  I do not remember who was Employee of the Month when;
I know she got it and, you know -----

  Q. OK. Over a period of two months or less something like 67
out of the 102 employees at the store signed union cards,
joined the union; is that correct?
       A. I do not know when she started and I do not know when
she ended her drive, so I cannot -- I mean, as far as
       I know -----

  Q. The majority anyway of the -----
       A. Of the signing was between two -- between August and
       September.
