Day 154 - 13 Jul 95 - Page 23
be, would it not -----
A. Yes, it seems to relate fairly closely, yes.

Q. Those people would be attached to a training squad person,
would they, when they arrived?
A. Yes, on the whole. The training squad were not used
exclusively for training. Some of the more experienced
crew members would also be used for training, as well. So
if they were a 5 Star White Badge, we would put them with
them on the till, maybe. But the training squad were the
sort of expert trainers, if you like, and we would
generally try to put them with them. If they were not
available, then we would put them with the more experienced
crew members.

MS. STEEL: You said the training squad were the expert
trainers. So they were the ones that were best at doing
the job, were they?
A. Usually, yes.

Q. They had an excellent standard at whatever task it was they
would be training?
A. They were both the most proficient crew and the crew
with the best knowledge of the procedures and detail in the
restaurant.

Q. Do you remember when it was that Mr. Alimi was promoted up
to the training squad?
A. Not exactly, no.

Q. I think you were starting to say it was towards the tail
end of his being there?
A. It would have been because, as far as I am aware, he
did not get any further than training squad. So I would
assume that it was towards the back end of his career with
McDonald's. That was the assumption I was making.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That may be a fair assumption, but it is only
right to say that in his statement he said he was not
interested in going on to management, anyway. So that may
have been quite enough, what he wanted at the time.

MS. STEEL: I was really just trying to get an idea if you knew
when it was that he was promoted to the training squad?
A. No, sorry.

Q. You do not remember then?
A. No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to break off there?

MS. STEEL: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: In case time becomes crucial -----

MS. STEEL: I was just going to say I do not think it will be.
I think we will be fine.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will come back at two o'clock. I would
like you to just give a bit of thought over the midday
