Day 134 - 13 Jun 95 - Page 08
how the computer system works. It may be that is not the
angle you are pursuing, but I cannot answer for that, but
certainly the information is fed through to the central
computer, yes, that is my understanding.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you even know whether the terminals which
they have in restaurants immediately feed the main computer
or whether they have separate computers and by a less
direct means transfer it to some central computer? Do you
know yourself?
A. There is certainly a link. I am not sure whether that
transfer takes place immediately. I think that some
information is transferred overnight, for example.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. I think that may be so because I saw
one of the computer printouts had a time which was about
2.00 in the morning on it.

MS. STEEL: You mentioned about hard copies at the store; when
the store feeds in the details, they printout a hard copy
for themselves, yes?
A. Details of what?

Q. Of the hours that individual employees are working?
A. They would not actually -- they would not actually feed
in that information. These are things that I am not
directly familiar with, so I will have to keep saying that
I am not sure.

Q. That is from when the employees clocks in?
A. Yes, a person clocks in and then a record is kept.
There is not then an immediate printout. There are certain
printouts that are produced weekly so there would then be a
weekly record.

Q. At the store?
A. Yes.

Q. But you do not make any recommendations to managers about
how long they keep those records?
A. Well, we would certainly expect them to keep them for
up to a year because that is the period of time over which
someone may come in to look at them for the purposes of the
evaluation report that we talked about yesterday.

Q. The personnel audit?
A. I beg your pardon?

Q. The personnel audit?
A. Yes.

Q. When they get fed up to Head Office by whatever means Head
Office gets a printout?
A. I would doubt they would get a printout. I would think
that was unlikely because it would not seem very sensible
to churn out lots of paper, but I do not know.

Q. But they can compile statistical information from that
which they print out?
A. There is certain statistical information produced, yes.
