Day 187 - 13 Nov 95 - Page 20

accused me of being involved. I was questioned and held in
custody before the employee retracted the accusation,
stating that he was pressured by the management to denounce
me. I then made an official complaint about this libellous
       denunciation.

"The aim of all these accusations was to have me criminally
convicted, so that I could no longer continue as works
representative/delegate as this requires a clean criminal
       record."

I believe -- is that fairly clear to everybody?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: "All this was due to my involvement with the trade
       union."

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause a moment.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. We crossed out a sentence there. Is
       that -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause. Let me just follow. (Pause)
       Yes.

MR. MORRIS: That does not appear in your original statement,
       does it?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is just not there, as far as I can see.

THE INTERPRETER: That whole paragraph is inaccurate; and the
corrected version appears above, starting "the aim of all
       these accusations".

  MR. MORRIS: I see. OK.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, the first line of the typed should be
struck out as well, because I cannot find that either.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Just pause again. (Pause) Yes.

MR. MORRIS: "The election for the staff representatives
(mandatory as of 1993)...." Can you ask why it became
mandatory? Why did it become mandatory of 1993, the
       election of staff representatives?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: (To the interpreter): Stop for a moment.
Could you translate the words in brackets in the paragraph
in the French, because that is what the original translator
has interpreted as "mandatory as of 1993"; and it occurred
to me a bit of own knowledge has crept in there, because
I do not get it from the French. But do you see it
says "with regard to the election of staff
representatives"; and then how would you translate the
       words in brackets?

THE INTERPRETER: Personnel delegates in 1993 and works council
       in 1994.
