Day 006 - 05 Jul 94 - Page 76
1
MR. RAMPTON: I have a copy here. I do not offer, indeed
2 I resolutely resist any suggestion that I should, copy the
whole book. If the defendants wish to give me the page
3 references they are intending to refer to, then we will
copy those pages and those pages alone.
4
MR. MORRIS: We have a copy of the book here, so that is useful
5 anyway.
6 MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest is that you give Mr. Rampton,
Mr. Atkinson or Mrs. Brinley-Codd the page numbers, that
7 you let them photocopy it because then Mr. Atkinson or
whoever can look at that page and can then decide if you
8 are referring to that page, they want to refer to
something else. Do you understand?
9
MR. MORRIS: Yes.
10
MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will have copies of the pages which both
11 sides want. Although it seems to me Mr. Rampton is right
that it is too onerous to photograph the whole lot, if you
12 have a doubt about whether you may use a page give that
page number anyway.
13
MISS STEEL: Is it perhaps worth asking whether they might have
14 a spare copy at head office? It is an approved book.
I just thought it is the sort of thing they might have
15 hanging around.
16 MR. JUSTICE BELL: It depends on their taste in literature I
suppose!
17 A. I do not know whether we have one or not, but we can
certainly have a look and see. If that makes it easy we
18 can ask Mrs. Brinley-Codd.
19 MR. JUSTICE RAMPTON: If someone can summon up another copy it
might be helpful.
20 A. We will see what we have.
21 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you do a little more without referring
to "Behind the Arches"?
22
MISS STEEL: I have a bit of problem if I cannot refer to
23 specific pages. I could just go on to -----
24 MR. RAMPTON: In any event, my Lord, I am not going to object
to asking questions about what Mr. Love did or did not
25 say, but the right way to ask the questions, to say, is it
the case that McDonald's torment their workers or whatever
26 it is Mr. Lover says in the book.
27 MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you put the essence of the matter and
then consider the answer and then consider whether in the
28 light of the answer you want to put something in the book,
you never know you may find the witness agrees with you.
29 Only if he does not do you have to put something in the
book.
30
MISS STEEL: Have you heard of Bozo the clown?
