Day 137 - 19 Jun 95 - Page 43

  Q. For a continuous period?
       A. Yes.

  Q. It might be three weeks; it might be six months, whatever
       it is.
       A. That is correct.

  Q. Then when you leave that number is used to record the fact
       of your leaving?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. Is that correct?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. When you come back, again if I have understood your
       evidence correctly ----
       A. You would get a new number.

  Q. A different number?
       A. That is correct.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is it related in any way to the old number so
that you can tell for any kind of investigative purpose
that it is someone who has worked there in the past?
       A. No. The problem, my Lord, is -- well, that might be
nice to be able to do. The reality of life is that our
computerised payroll system that records all of this is at
least 20 years old with a thousand different programs to
make it work. It is primarily set up to ensure that people
are paid properly. This additional information would add
additional complications to the system. We are in the
process of evaluating, creating a new system because at
       some point ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I just wanted to know whether you can press a
button and find that out in relation to employees.
       A. No, my Lord, you cannot.

MR. RAMPTON: Mr. Stein, we may be able to illustrate that last
answer of yours if I ask you to look at a British
document. In that yellow file 10 you will find Lyn Mead's
statement at tab 7, and behind her statement you will find
some documents lettered from A to H. I would like you to
find, if you can, the document letter E which is a series
of six computer printout sheets. They are sideways
       documents I call them.
       A. OK, yes, I think I have them.

  Q. Could you please turn to the last page of that bundle of
       documents, the sixth.
       A. OK, I think I have the document.

  Q. Which is headed I hope "Crew Turnover Report" for a
       particular quarter"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you keep that kind of information in America?

MR. MORRIS: I am not sure we have the same document. Which
       page is this?
