which other fast-food chains missed out on; would you
       accept that?
       A. I would accept that.

  Q. Would you accept that ronald mcdonald in fact was used on
TV advertising in the mid 60s, or from 1965?
       A. It is a surprise to me that we used it on national
advertising that early. My recollection was that it was
later in the 60s. I started my employment with McDonald's
in'63, just about the time that it he was local, he was
introduced as a local character. I do not recall, I would
not have had knowledge then of how much money was spent on
advertising, you know, advertising. But that was a lot of
       money.

  Q. Would you accept that the 1965 appearance of Ronald
McDonald on the TV advertising locally, nationally is
likely to be correct, having now read that?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: I think we have finished with the book for the
moment. Do you accept that environment/index.html">litter is an important social
       problem?
       A. Litter is a problem. When you asked the question is
that a social problem, in comparison to what?

  Q. Well, it is a social problem; it is a problem?
       A. It is a problem.

  Q. Do you accept that McDonald's packaging ends up as environment/index.html">litter,
not all of it, but some of it ends up as environment/index.html">litter?
       A. Yes, from time to time it does.

  Q. What percentage of your business is take-away in America,
       approximately?
       A. Approximately half. That is counting our drive-through
       business.

  Q. Whether or not it is McDonald's fault or responsibility,
which has been brought up in the case before, it is a
reality, is it not, that McDonald's will not be able to
clean up the majority of their take-away environment/index.html">litter because it
will be gone from around their store?
       A. Well, I think I have already entered in evidence before
that we try to police areas within a block radius around
       our restaurants.

  Q. But some -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: All that is being put to you is that with
take-away trays you lose your control of the disposal by
the customer of the packaging once he or she walks out of
restaurant, or drives away from the drive-through?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. That must be so, must it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Before Mr. Morris asks you again, you say about half your
business in America is take-away, including drive-through,
