Day 265 - 19 Jun 96 - Page 73
MR. RAMPTON: I quite agree with that. My only concern is to
protect, my Lord, the witnesses against what I might call
improper or sinister enquiries with a view to tracing them
and having pressure put on them while they are giving
evidence, or after they have given evidence. I do not mind
which it is. Both would be -- well, they would be very bad
things.

The only information I need to give your Lordship in
addition to that which I have already given is that the
conversation which I reported to your Lordship as having
been, the medium by which the information reached us was
between Michelle Hooker and Mrs. Brinley-Codd.

MS. STEEL: Can I just ask, if any weight is going to be given
to what has been said, I think there should be an affidavit
from Miss Hooker; otherwise it is completely hearsay and, I
mean, I challenged it but I cannot cross-examine on it.

(Please see separate transcript for ruling)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will open the court and you ask the
question tonight. I do not want you to take long about
it.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, there are a number of things I also need
to mention.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. That, hopefully, will leave us just a
few minutes to talk about the immediate future. Can you
open the Court, please?

(The proceedings were then conducted in open court)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I see no need for that ruling to be repeated
in open court. From now on the proceedings will be
reported as being in open court.

MS. STEEL: OK.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: As from you asking your questions.

MS. STEEL: (To the witness): What was the name of the company
you were employed by?
A. Tyson Legal Services.

Q. And where are they based?
A. Docklands.

Q. They were based there in 1990; yes?
A. That is right.

Q. Was it them that you were employed by for the whole time
between either 1988, 1989 to 1994/5 when you stopped being
a private investigator?
A. No, it was not.

Q. It was not?
A. No.
