Day 192 - 27 Nov 95 - Page 35

MR. MORRIS: You said that the $102 was for travelling expenses.
Were you aware of what travelling expenses the witnesses
       received?
       A. None. I believe that they were -- Avis, Cam's wife,
she brought them down; they went out for lunch with the
employer, with Cam and his lawyers, and then they were
driven back. So they did not really have any expenses that
they needed to pay for themselves.

  Q. You said something about -- why did you say, "The longer
       story, the longer you testified, the more you got paid";
where did you get it from?
       A. A guy in the crew room had apparently said that, one of
my committee people, overheard that by Andrew Davidson who
       was saying it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Does it mean any more than if you attend for
two days you get $204, whereas if you attend for one you
get $102, and if you attend for three you get $306?
       A. I am sorry? You get ------

  Q. Being paid more the longer your evidence lasts.
I understand that if you are to be paid a daily rate, if
you attend under subpoena, then you if you attend for two
days you get twice as much as if you attend for one, and so
       on?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. But is there any more to it than that?
       A. No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Morris, I would like you to pursue, if
you want -- it is entirely a matter for you -- the question
       of -----

MR. MORRIS: Management dragging out -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is really the bottom of -- I do not have a
page number, but it is the second page of Miss Inglis'
first statement. Pursue that if you want to. We will do
       it, though, at two o'clock.

                        (Luncheon Adjournment)

MR. MORRIS: You say, Miss Inglis, in your statement, that
management dragged out the Labour Board hearings to create
a hostile atmosphere for the employees at the store. When
       you say that, what do you mean by dragged them out so long;
       in what way?
       A. Management -- at the Labour Board, there were four
parties represented: there was McDonald's, Cam Ballantyne,
the union and the intervening employers. Most of the
intervening employers were summoned by Cam and his lawyer.
He brought those employers down. Apparently, like, I do
not know exactly what was said at the Labour Board, because
it was a closed hearing, but he also had the parents of the
employees come down and testify to whether or not their
employee had signed a union card or not; and
my understanding of it is that they did not know whether
they had signed or not; it was just what they had thought.
