Day 195 - 04 Dec 95 - Page 33

supplementary statement. Yes. Just one point on page 4
about under 18s in which he says, the second sentence in
this paragraph: "When I was Area Supervisor for Clacton
and Colchester, this is one of the things that under 18s
working illegal hours I regularly checked on on my two or
three weekly visits to the restaurants." He says over the
page: "I have never come across the practice of clocking
out young people at the proper time and keeping them on at
the restaurant on payment of a bonus". Have you any
       comment on that?
       A. Yes. I can tell you that it happened and what I have
said in my statement is true, and I would have said it is
impossible for any other Manager or Floor Manager to do
that without the direct knowledge of the Area Supervisor or
       the Store Manager.

  Q. Especially if he was checking on it?
       A. That is right, especially if he was checking on it.

  Q. The very last point was on page 6 -- this will be my last
question, I think - he says "hustle", he never interpreted
it or seen it interpreted as running or sliding. Do you
       have any comment on that?
       A. It may not have been interpreted as that by him, but by
the crew members, when they are already rushing around and
he arrives in the kitchen and says: "Come on, let us have
some hustle", what else could it mean? You know, move
faster, and you cannot do that without sliding because you
are already going at maximum speed anyway.

  Q. Was Frank Stanton ever involved in the running of the
       store?
       A. Running of the store?

  Q. Did you ever have any direct experience of Frank Stanton
giving instructions, or anything like that, regarding
       hustle?
       A. Oh, yes, he would frequently, he would have come in
specially on busy shifts, and the first thing he would say
to the crew is: "Let us see some hustle; let us get
       moving".

  Q. The last questions, it is just verifying really your diary,
       do you have the original?
       A. Yes, I have the original here.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Am I to put this behind Mr. Alimi's first
       statement?

MR. MORRIS: Yes, it might be helpful, yes. (To the witness):
You have the original with you?
       A. Yes, I do.

MR. MORRIS: People have to take my word for it. These copies
are the copies of the original.

MR. RAMPTON: No, my Lord. We do not have to take Mr. Morris's
word for that at all. We are entitled to inspection of the
original, I believe. I notice, in particular, that I have
only been given 20th March, I think, through to 20th June
