MS. STEEL: Yes, if I could just finish. It goes to our stated
mind as to whether or not we believed the allegations in
the leaflet which goes to malice, obviously.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But do you have to ask Mr. Preston about that
or do you just say that you took in mind that in October
1987 the Plaintiff's solicitors only wanted a correction,
you say, on rainforest?

MS. STEEL: Well, thirdly, it goes to the counterclaim because
the distribution worldwide, which the Plaintiffs say that
they were responding to, is actually largely of the
Veggies' fact sheet.

I think it is accepted by McDonald's own witnesses that the
ones that infiltrated the group that the London Greenpeace
fact sheet was more or less out of print by the time they
took any action against us.

MR. MORRIS: It also relates to the press statements issued by
McDonald's which is the subject of the counterclaim and the
state of mind of the Plaintiffs when they made those press
statements knowing that they had effectively sanctioned the
continued distribution of the London Greenpeace fact sheet
by Veggies.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Put a question pointed at that.

MS. STEEL: It is quite difficult.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Take time to think about it but then put a
question directly.

MS. STEEL: In the following letter sent on behalf of
McDonald's, it refers to an article in Peace News on 30th
October, which also appears in the same tab a few pages on,
I do not know whether you can find it. Do you see Peace
News?
A. I have a letter about Peace News.

Q. There should be a copy of Peace News in it. Is it not in
there?
A. A few pages on. No, I think not. If I go back a
little bit here. No, there is not.

MR. MORRIS: We will see if we can find a copy.

MS. STEEL: Do you know where the copy is? If I hand up this
copy. I am afraid I do not know where it is in the bundles
but I will try and find a reference for it afterwards.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes (Handed).

MS. STEEL: If you see the highlighted piece, it refers to the
letter written to Veggies. In the second column, it says:

"Veggies point out that all McDonald's solicitors have
asked them to retract are allegations concerning the
destruction of tropical rainforest for beef production and
