Day 072 - 12 Jan 95 - Page 37
associations immediately next to you, are there? The Royal
Hospital Ward residents association and the Smith Street
residents association?
A. Immediately on either side of us there is the
Wellington Square is before the Smith Street and on the
other side it is the Royal Hospital Ward.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I think we have four in total.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. I am amazed by how they divide
themselves up into such small areas but, no doubt, they
find that effective. There is a society, I see, of Chelsea
residents associations with an acronym, according to
Mr. McIntyre.

MR. MORRIS: If it helps, the way I understand is that there is
the Wellington Square association, the Smith Street
residents association, some which I cannot find, and the
Royal Hospital Ward one is an alliance. It is an umbrella
one of all the ones in the area. So, Dr. Taylor speaks
for, if you like, all the residents associations.

MS. STEEL: When letters are sent to head office, do they
forward copies on to you because you are the local
restaurant concerned?
A. Yes, they would do, yes.

Q. They would do?
A. Yes.

Q. So you would see residents' letters?
A. Yes.

Q. Could you turn to page 787? This is from someone at
36, I think it is Royal Avenue, it might be 38. In the
second paragraph it says: "You contend that environment/index.html">litter patrols
take place every 15 minutes and nothing could be further
from the truth, or they are extremely ineffective. We have
never seen any of your staff cleaning environment/index.html">litter since the
first few months of operation, unless they are not wearing
your uniform."

You have seen this letter before?
A. I believe so, yes.

Q. When you saw that, did not you not think: "Oh, dear, here
is this 15 minute business that is all wrong. I must make
sure that this incorrect impression is corrected so that
the residents are not misled"?
A. Well, obviously I would know the 15 minutes came from
Philip Cobden's letter and that is why I would have
understood them to have made that comment. I cannot
remember what action I took at that time but, yes, it would
have concerned me.

Q. If we turn to 792 there is a reply to this letter and
Mr. Cobden says: "I acknowledge receipt of your letter of
21st November and am, of course, concerned to read your
comments. Although I am satisfied that Mr. Stump is doing
everything that is reasonably possible to control environment/index.html">litter,
