Day 007 - 06 Jul 94 - Page 54

1 MISS STEEL: It is actually page 34 I want to look at?
              A. OK, I am there.
     2
         Q. I just wanted to ask a couple of questions to start off
3 with. Where you have "refrigeration" in those columns,
does that include like home refrigeration?
     4 A. Yes

     5 Q. Yes?
              A. Home refrigerators would be in there.
     6
         Q. Would it also include, for example, McDonald's fridges?
7 A. Yes, and your local pubs and anybody who would have a
              refrigerator.
     8
         Q. Right. What about food processing? How are CFCs used in
     9 food processing?
              A. I am really not sure, Miss Steel. It is not my area
    10 of expertise, unfortunately.

11 Q. Just on the following page, this is probably just a simple
mistake, but I think you have missed off one million
12 pounds of HCFCs under blowing agents. Would that be
right, looking at the page before?
13 A. Yes, I believe you could be correct because it is not
              under the "Blowing Agents" heading.
    14
MR. MORRIS: What are we looking at?
    15
MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is broke up into usages and there is
16 not an HCFC blowing agent heading?
              A. Yes, there is no heading for it at all. That is
    17 correct.

18 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is that because there is a minimum
percentage or is it an omission?
19 A. I cannot be certain at this stage. It was done -----

20 Q. For completeness it should be there?
              A. Yes, because scientifically the totals should both add
21 to the same thing so we should add that heading, or
I should add that heading. My apologies for missing that.
    22
MR. MORRIS: I make the total 92 per cent under the figures.
23 Does that mean it would be eight per cent?

24 MISS STEEL: No, it does not.
              A. No, I do not think I would make that assumption at
25 all. From the front page it is one million pounds out of
a total of 974 million, so it is around 0.1 per cent.
26 There could very well be additional chemicals that are in
each of those classes that would make up more of a total.
    27
         Q. Just to go on to the following page, the home
28 refrigeration figures, did you work these out yourself?
              A. No, the source for that information was documents that
29 Duponts gave me from their industry association that
estimates total sales, so it was Dupont sales that was the
30 largest CFC producer and others in the industry.
