Day 195 - 04 Dec 95 - Page 72

  Q. For that week?
       A. For that week, yes.

  Q. The only other thing I wanted to ask you about, Mr. Rampton
also asked you about on page 5 of your statement where you
       talked about your sister?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Telling you of the story about closing the store and
       dismissing the entire staff?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Because of the staff joining a union. When you said this
to the management at the Colchester store, they did not
immediately respond to you, "Oh no, that is complete lies"?
       A. That is right.

  Q. "You are welcome to join a union if you want to", or
       anything like that?
       A. They did not respond at all, no.

  Q. Do you remember which Managers it was who you spoke to
       about that?
       A. I do not honestly remember. I know that I have talked
to not only one about that but several people, and the only
person who gave me an answer was actually Daniel
Rizzardini, again who said that he does not know about the
incident, he has not been told about the incident, he does
       not know it.

MR. MORRIS: We are just seeing if we have any further
questions. I do not think we have. The last question.
You have talked about the management as a team?
       A. Yes.

  Q. A collective team. Did all the Managers have the same
attitude in terms of carrying out what you have said were
illegal or unethical or unfair practices?
       A. Well, they did the same thing, but they did not have
the same attitude, in so far as some of them obviously did
certain jobs with great reluctance, whereas more ambitious
Managers, say Mark Davies, was one of those who was doing
what he was told basically or what he thought he should
do. He was a company man, he would have done it gladly,
but somebody like Ray Coton would do the same thing but
with reluctance. He had more compassion but it was
obvious -- they seemed to be both under the same sort of
pressure, but Ray Coton seemed to be more reluctant to
carry his duties out, certain duties.

MR. MORRIS: No further questions. Thank you.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, thank you.

                      (The witness withdrew).

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we just look at the schedule? Is there
any possibility at all of calling Mr. Coton tomorrow
afternoon and having your conference with him tomorrow
morning? Is there any way you can get in touch with him
