  Q. Where does that lead us to in relation to this case?

MS. STEEL: McDonald's did not say they had any objection to you
using that beef from Canada and the USA?
       A. No, it was first class beef.

  Q. So was it going to McDonald's between 1980 and 1988?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If I might make the point, if you had asked
that question straightaway we might have missed out the
questions in between. If you think you have a really cagey
witness there and you have got to get them into a corner,
well and good. But if your assessment is that the witness
will say "yes" if the answer is "yes" about questions of
trading like that, it is best to get straight to the point.

MR. MORRIS: Just while Helen is looking, yesterday we referred
to a pie chart, if you remember, of sources of beef used by
McKey's for McDonald's, yes? Just to refresh your memory,
it included England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland,
Holland, France, Spain, Germany and Denmark. The countries
that supply McKey's with beef from Europe, for example,
would you generally get meat that was from McDonald's
       suppliers in those countries?
       A. No.

  Q. You would just take from anybody?
       A. No, well, wait a moment. When you said to me, would we
take it from McDonald's suppliers, I took that, were we
buying meat from the McDonald's supplier who supplies the
McDonald's factory in Gunnesberg, Germany, Orleon in
France, Malmo in Sweden? That is the way I took it. Any
supplier has been approved by McKey as being inspected by
McKey and is on our approved suppliers list. So, it
follows that we may be bringing meat out of France, but
that same supplier may or may not be supplying the
McDonald's plant at Orleon in France. We work, each
country works independently with its own network.

  Q. But the suppliers that you get from, would they be, if you
like, OKd by the country in which they are based, the
       McDonald's -----
       A. Oh, yes, absolutely. McDonald's in the technical
offices in Frankfurt have a register of all suppliers and
we pass information to one another what the prices are in
       each country.

  Q. So who, for example, would you buy from from, say, France?
       A. We have got -----

  Q. Give us an example of some major suppliers.
       A. Sans Chevion, Au Lide, Biguard -- various companies
       like that.

  Q. What about Germany?
       A. Sudfleisch in Gunnesberg. That would be the main one
       in Germany, Sudfleisch.
