MR. RAMPTON: No, he did not say. He said he exported to
       fast-food chains like McDonald's.

MR. MORRIS: All right. Whatever he said, what explanation was
       given to you?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He said words to the effect that 70 per cent
of what was exported went as industrial meat to food chains
like McDonald's and Burger King. I cannot remember whether
       he then said ----

MR. MORRIS (To the witness): So what explanation was given to
       you about that?
       A. There are two explanations.

  Q. What was given to you?
       A. That was given to me?

  Q. Yes.
       A. One is that those people talked to the Ambassador in
Germany, told him that we are coming here to see if they
could import from Costa Rica. They came into the embassy
in Costa Rica. They contacted Arturo Wolf. When they
contacted Mr. Arturo Wolf, they gave him the same
impression, that they were looking to export product from
Costa Rica to Germany, with the intention of using it for
fast-food restaurants. You can clearly see during the film
that there is some mention directed to the fast-food
restaurants, because anybody, any sales person will tell
you -- if I am interested in buying this particular
cloth -- will tell you that he is that particular piece of
       cloth, suit, or whatever.

The other explanation is that when they say they export
70 per cent for the fast-food industry, that is not
possible. Whatever they export, we can only use about --
in the US, we use roughly 10 per cent from a carcass,
because all of the other cuts are too expensive for us to
use. So that, in itself, is a wrong statement. Either he
did not know it or he lied.

In other countries that might be different, but in the US
that is all we can use; and most people cannot afford all
of the food -- the food industry cannot afford the other
       cuts.

MR. MORRIS: So are you saying that that man, as interviewed
       there, was lying?
       A. You heard what I said.

  Q. I am just asking you.
       A. Why are you asking me again?

MR. MORRIS: I wanted to clarify. I did not want to put words
       into your mouth.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He said he did not know or he lied.

MR. MORRIS: So he did not know, being that he did not
