Day 007 - 06 Jul 94 - Page 87

1 MR. JUSTICE BELL: He did not say that. It certainly was not
              this witness.
     2
MR. MORRIS: Sorry, that is what Mr. Preston said.
     3 I apologise.

4 MR. RAMPTON: The figures and weights are going back to -- from
tab 9 in that bundle page 343 onwards given from 1987,
5 those are the figures by weight?
              A. Sir, the items that would be included would be the
6 sandwich foam, the hot cups.

7 MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you look at 343 it is the item under
plastic items, is it, or are some of those not----?
8 A. No, it is only 3 of those items.

9 Q. Which ones are they, because it is not on the copy?
              A. The first one sandwich foam, then you go down, skip
10 salad, skip cutlery, skip can liners, hot cups.

    11 .
         Q. Hot cups?
    12 A. Hot cups.

    13 Q. Not lids?
              A. Well, I unfortunately put the lids in the same
14 category on that one, so I did not break it out. I assume
the lids were foam, which is an even more conservative
15 estimate again, and breakfast foam. Those are the three.
If you multiply those by 3 you come up with somewhere
16 around 25 million, I imagine, or somewhere of this scale,
certainly not anything in the billions.
    17
MR. MORRIS: Yes. I think also there is a point that was in
18 1992 after the styrofoam was mostly phased out?
              A. No----
    19
         Q. These figures would be----?
20 A. Can you help me clarify when the calculation was?
Maybe you could find the tab for me of the calculation.
21 Let me think. It was definitely not in the'90s. I would
say either 1988 or 1989, but that can be confirmed. The
22 point here is not that it is ten or 15 per cent off, it is
600 per cent, 6,000 per cent off. So if I am off by ten
23 or 15 per cent do not fault me.
         .
24 Q. I think there is a whole area of debate over that. We do
not need to go into it now.
    25
MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. When you call Mr. Lipsett, having no
26 doubt had an opportunity to speak to him before he is
called, he will give his explanation. If Mr. Rampton does
27 not agree with it he will no doubt cross-examine him on
              it.
    28
MR. MORRIS: I will just see if there are any other final
    29 questions for Mr. Kouchoukos.

    30 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.
