  Q. You will see that in the course of the article, or you
probably already know, certain statements are attributed
to you. I would like to give you a moment to remind
yourself of its contents, then I will ask you a question.
       A. Well, do ask now, please.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When you feel you have reacquainted yourself
with the article, let Mr. Rampton know, then he will ask
       you a question.
       A. Yes, please.

MR. RAMPTON: Are there any quotes, opinions, statements or
sentiments attributed to you in that article which are
       inaccurate?
       A. Golly, I will have to go through the whole thing now
and tell you which is and which is not.

  Q. May I, with his Lordship's leave, do it this way? May
I put some of them to you and answer me whether or not you
       have been accurately reported?
       A. I must say, in general, I am not very well accurately
       reported.

  Q. That is a different point.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think Mr. Rampton is going to refer you to
a statement. The first thing he wants to know is whether
you accept it is accurate reporting or not.

MR. RAMPTON: The first bit that I would like to refer you to,
Mr. Cox, is in the left-hand column. One sees that it is
an article from the Sunday Times of 11th September this
year. It is headed: "Veggie Evangelist - eating meat is
bad for us all, says Peter Cox, David Thomas met a man
with a mission". I am not going to ask you about that at
the moment. Four paragraphs down -- I apologise if the
copy you have has a huge hole through it.
       A. I cannot read that, I am afraid.

  Q. I will do my best. It says: "Cox though is deft to such
protestations as his feelings extend to the animal world.
Vegetarian" something with variety "combined flavours and
have large brains". Now there is a bit we can: "Read
blood soaked carnivores, however", I take it they are not
       your words?
       A. They are not my words, of course not, no.

  Q. I accept that. Then there does come a quotation mark:
"Bolt down food" and then a journalist or subeditor's
insertion "and have" "small brains less capable of
adaptive behaviour". Did you say that, do you think?
       A. No, I did not say that.

  Q. You did not say that?
       A. No.

  Q. Is it your ----
       A. Do you mean during the course of our interview?
