You do not have to ask anything at all if you do not want
to. As far as I am concerned, the fact is she has not had
an opportunity to investigate Sun Valley and I have to say,
at the moment, I am not much concerned about who was right
and who was wrong over the details of the telephone
conversation. But since Dr. Pattison's account of his
motives has come out, I am certainly not going to stop you
asking Mrs. Druce.

MS. STEEL: Right. I do not know whether I asked this or not,
the 'phone call was made as a result of the photographs and
videos that you saw?
A. Yes.

Q. Because of your concern about what he saw in those?
A. Yes, and that was my first knowledge of the
demonstration incidentally.

Q. Dr. Pattison said you became aggressive. What is your
opinion of that?
A. I do not recall being aggressive. I think I was
expressing concern for turkey welfare. I cannot remember
word for word what went on. It became an argument,
I expect, I really do not recall. I can recall the facts
that I noted down while speaking to him and, beyond that, I
do not have a very vivid memory of what happened.

Q. You would not accept that you became aggressive?
A. I would certainly hope not because I consider
aggression has an inference of threat and I know that was
not present.

Q. What was your view of the 'phone call?
A. I made the 'phone call.

Q. I meant did you think it was a useful 'phone call?
A. I was glad I had made it because I feel that, as with
the broiler, as with the battery system, the turkey
industry needs exposing, and we do it by all means which we
consider acceptable, which does not include aggression.

Q. Do you feel that the 'phone call was productive?
A. Yes, I think so.

Q. Can you explain in what way?
A. Because Dr. Pattison did seem concerned.

Q. Concerned by what?
A. By the newsreel and the photographs and I presume it
did not reflect well on Sun Valley's practices and he was
concerned about this. That was the impression I had.

Q. He said that the conditions the turkeys were in was not
exceptional?
A. Yes, because the sinusitis, which I assumed it was, he
confirmed that assumption and said it was a very common
condition.

Q. Had you played any part in organising the demonstration at
