of electrical equipment in a wash-up area?

Q. Because if there is water on the floor in -----
A. How is there going to be water on the floor in the
middle of the kitchen?

Q. For example, if the pipe above the kitchen area bursts and
you are working with a quarter of an inch of water on the
floor?
A. I hardly think that is a regular occurrence that is
likely to happen in many stores even over an 18 months
period.

Q. I just want to clarify one final thing: The Company does
actually think that non-slip shoes are effective, do they
not?
A. As I explained to you, they are not totally effective,
no, because they have to be kept in good condition; it
depends on the people wearing them to do that. We do
specify that they should wear slip resistant shoes, but we
do not specify a particular design.

Q. You do not think that they are effective enough for you to
pay for them yourselves? They are effective enough for the
workers to pay for them and make sure that they are wearing
them, but not effective enough for you to pay for them for
the workers?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know how many of your employees buy
shoes with non-slip soles of their own account?
A. Yes, well, all of the employees that work for us supply
their own shoes, so .....

Q. Yes, but do you know how many bother to buy shoes with
special soles?
A. Well, we are not asking them to buy them with special
soles. Anything like a Dr. Martin sort of normal shoe is
fine, and that is what they tend to go for.

MS. STEEL: They are certainly instructed to wear non-slip
soles for fat filtering?
A. Yes, if you say so.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is that right?
A. I am just thinking. I am sure it is in there that they
should wear sturdy shoes, enclosed shoes.

MS. STEEL: And non-slip shoes?
A. Without referring to it, I cannot say for definite, but
I believe that is in there.

Q. It is in the filtering, shortening and procedural
guidelines?
A. Yes, well, then you are right.

Q. Page 724. No further questions.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I may over-run a little bit partly
because Ms. Steel saw fit to reopen her cross-examination,
so I hope your Lordship will forgive me if we run a little
