Day 137 - 19 Jun 95 - Page 12

  Q. Until the early 70s?
       A. Excuse me, until the early 80s.

  Q. Until the early 80s. The Company has expanded a good deal
       since you first joined it?
       A. Yes, it has.

  Q. Do you remember how many countries McDonald's operated in
       within you joined in 1974?
       A. I remember I joined the Company in June of 74, and
I recall our first store here in England I think it opened
       in September ---

  Q. That is right.
       A. -- of 74, because I thought that was rather special, so
I remember that. I think that around that time, or prior
to that time, we may have -- we had operations, I believe,
       in Japan and maybe Germany.

  Q. I think Germany preceded this country.
       A. OK. I had no involvement with them at that time, so
I was not that familiar with it.

  Q. Before, Mr. Stein, we descend from the general to the
particular, one question, to what extent does your present
job involve any question of employee safety in the stores?
       A. That is a different department within McDonald's that
       would handle safety.

  Q. We have some accident statistics, for example, supplied by
the Corporation; would you be able to help us with an
analysis of those statistics, make any comments on them?
       A. No, I would not. I do not review -- I am not even sure
what statistics you are talking about.

  Q. It us statistics about accidents in the stores from your
       Insurance Claims Department?
       A. I do not review those things and I, frankly, have not
       seen those things.

  Q. No. Can we then pass straightaway to what you, I think,
call equal employment opportunities and what we call equal
       opportunities?
       A. OK.

  Q. Do you know what I mean by that?
       A. I think so.

  Q. Tell me what you mean by EEO, equal employment
       opportunities?
       A. We make a distinction, I believe that may not be a
distinction here in England, and equal employment
opportunity means that you will treat everyone fairly,
regardless of race and sex. We go beyond just equal
employment opportunity to what we call affirmative action
and diversity, valuing diversity, and taking aggressive
steps to increase the number of women in minorities
throughout our employment ranks. So, that is -- as a
distinction, I am not sure what you are looking for, but
