Day 275 - 08 Jul 96 - Page 19
animal products and salt and low in fibre, vitamins and
minerals is linked with cancers of the breast and bowel and
heart disease. I have also read articles and books
concerning food additives and the possible side effects of
those additives. This includes the book "E for Additives"
by Morris Hanson". I have had that book for, well, I do
not know how long, but I had it for quite a few years
before we got the writs. It was something I was interested
in. This includes -- sorry, I have read that.

"I have read the McDonald's pamphlet "McDonald's Food,
the Facts" and I have seen that in a large number of the
items sold by McDonald's." Sorry -- "and have seen that a
large number of the items sold by McDonald's contain
additives, some of which are listed in "E for Additives" as
having a risk of side effects and some prohibited in food
intended for babies and young children. I have also read
articles about food poisoning which stated that meat was
responsible for the majority of the cases of food
poisoning. I do recollect reading from time to time
articles about how minced beef and chicken were particular
areas of concern with regards to food poisoning. Minced
beef, because of the fact that the surface, the original
surface, area then becomes kind of ground up and is then
part of the internal part of the meat product rather than
being on the surface and exposed to the heat source.

"I have also read reports of people suffering from
food poisoning after having consumed McDonald's food. I
have seen a number of McDonald's advertisements, many of
them aimed at children, and I think it is fair to say that
they portray McDonald's as a "happy circus-like place where
burgers and chips are provided for anybody at any hour of
the day".

Obviously, the reference to "circus-like" is because
of the clown, because that is generally where clowns are
seen in circuses. From my own experiences of being with
children and of their behaviour and habits, and from my own
recollection of my childhood, I also think it is fair to
say that children are more interested in gimmicks, games
and fun and in sugary and processed foods than they are in
obtaining a healthy diet. In addition, I think it is fair
to say that children who have not participated in a certain
event or watched what other children have watched or have
not had the experience that other children have had can
feel they are different to others and thus feel that they
are not somehow normal."

By way of example, my best friend at school was a
vegetarian. She used to get a bit of stick and, you know,
people would say things like "how weird" and, you know,
sometimes she would feel funny about the fact that she was
vegetarian even though she was, you know, she was a
vegetarian because she was concerned about animals. The
other example would be in terms of, sort of, television
programmes, and things like that, there would be a regular
discussion about what was seen the night before on TV and
if you weren't the person, if you weren't a person, who had
watched that particular programme then you would feel left
