MS. STEEL: We are trying.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest might help, Mr. Lobstein -- I
do want to interrupt the flow of your evidence -- if, when
you come to a part of the text it is obvious it refers to
a table, let us know -- for all I know there are footnotes
which include tables -- or if, because of your familiarity
in depth with the book, you know there is a table which is
relevant, just identify it for us.

THE WITNESS: I will do my best.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You are going to be sworn in a moment. When
you give your evidence you can stand up or sit down
entirely as it pleases you.

Examined by the Defendants

MR. MORRIS: Can you give the court your full name and title,
please?
A. Timothy Jordan Lobstein and, because I have a
doctorate, I am referred to as "doctor".

Q. Shall I refer to you as "Mr." Lobstein?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Why not call him Dr. Lobstein? He no doubt
had to work very hard for it.

MR. MORRIS: Can you tell the court your address? It can be
your business address or your home address.
A. My home address is 58 Finsbury Park Road, London N4.

Q. Could you just tell the court your present position?
A. Yes, I am an editor of a magazine called The Food
Magazine; I am co-director of a small limited company
called The Food Commission, and I am a freelance
journalist and a consultant on food policy.

Q. Just a little brief word about your academic background,
what is your doctorate?
A. It was in the overlapping area between physiology and
psychology concerning, basically, sort of psychosomatic
disease issues.

Q. Does that have any impact on your present position or does
it inform your present work?
A. It would inform but not have a direct relevance.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What was your first degree?
A. First degree was in Psychology.

MR. MORRIS: Are you a member of any current official panels?
A. Yes. I have recently been invited to join (and have
accepted to join) the fastfood panel of the nutrition task
force, which is a government appointed advisory body.

Q. Is that your position with The Food Commission or
personal?
A. I think it would be more my personal consultancy and
