Day 045 - 03 Nov 94 - Page 61

parents like to bring their children to McDonald's as
opposed to, as I say, a white table cloth. We are more
comfortable in those surroundings for parents.

MS. STEEL: Page 235, about french fries: "French fries
continue to be the most popular food item on the regular
menu purchased by three out of five customers"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Medium fries were only introduced in 1991; is that right?
       A. That is correct.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There is a reference somewhere that was quite
a good move, because what it resulted in was you no longer
had the gulf between regular fries and large fries and a
number of the regular fries customers moved over to medium?
       A. Yes, I think from an appetite appeal point of view, the
smaller fry was geared for a very small appetite who did
not want something bigger, otherwise they were forced to
take a large and maybe split it.

MS. STEEL: On page 237, 61 per cent of heavy users purchase
       fries?
       A. That is how you would read that chart.

  Q. On page 23 it says: "Entree, fries and beverage were the
most frequently ordered menu combination. Slightly over
two out of five customers ordered a meal"?
       A. I believe the number is 42 per cent.

  Q. Then, I think, there is a break-down of that on the
following page where 59 per cent of 0 to 7 year-olds
purchased the entree, fries and beverage combination; 54
per cent of eight to 13 year-olds; 44 per cent of 14 to 17
       year-olds?
       A. I believe that is how you are reading -- I believe you
       are reading the chart correctly.

  Q. Is that ----
       A. I do not know what those arrows mean.

  Q. 43 per cent of 18 to 24 year-olds. Sorry, I have just
missed a page out. On page 242 ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- 77 per cent of heavy users purchased a beverage?
       A. Yes, that is how you read the chart.

  Q. What does that include?
       A. A beverage would be any soft drink, milk, coffee,
orange juice. There are other juices that are available as
       well.

  Q. Any drinks that you sell?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. I am not sure whether I have covered this or not on another
page, but on page 247, 41 per cent of heavy users purchased
entree, fries and beverage combination. That is up three
       per cent from 1988.
