Day 044 - 02 Nov 94 - Page 65
A. It certainly happens in families, yes. I do not think
it is a huge problem at all -- at least from my experience
it is not a big problem -- but certainly kids enjoy telling
their mum and dad what they would like.

Q. You must be aware because you are a parent, yes?
A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. I think what he is saying is he is
aware it happens, but he is not conscious of it being a
problem.

MR. MORRIS: Right. You would not want to see it being
interpreted in your ads, would you, that the children
should make demands over the head of their parents?
A. Right, we do not ------

Q. Or against their parents?
A. We do not encourage that.

Q. But if this was shown to, in fact, happen would that be
something that would disturb you in terms of the effects
your ads were having on children?
A. Again, I do not think it is having that kind of
significant effect that you are saying. The parent
establishes a relationship with his child. It is within
the context of that family relationship that the child
talks about what he wants or what he does not want. I am
sure to some parents it is a problem, to other parents it
is not.

Q. I am trying to get through these before ten past 4. I am
on to 44 now so we are getting quite down the list. A
couple of the characters, there was the Grimace who is
obsessed with milk shake. Do you call them "thick shakes"
or "milk shakes"?
A. Milk shake.

Q. So Grimace is obsessed with milk shakes?
A. He enjoys milk shakes but mostly in these commercials
he is sort of a bumbly big character, that just sort of
roams around in a bumbly way, but, yes, he does likes milk
shakes.

Q. He is always saying: "Hi, I am thirsty and I want a milk
shake"?
A. I do not think he always says that, no.

Q. A lot? And the Hamburglar is always wanting, is it,
cheeseburgers or hamburgers?
A. I think it is hamburgers as well as cheeseburgers.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It was not for me always easy to see whether
in the burger there was a slice of cheese or not. They are
pretty small.

MR. MORRIS: Just on the subject, is that -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What are you getting at now?
