       references on Nutrition.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you mean the very pale green?

  MR. RAMPTON: Yes, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What has that got on the outside?

MR. RAMPTON: It has: Defendants' Expert References Volume II,
       Nutrition, Neil Barnard.

MR. MORRIS: Maybe there is, as Helen, suggested a better way
       of dealing with this.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is a typical example. I have not
embarked on that bundle. I might spend days reading it
and trying to digest it and then find that there were only
particular parts. You set off and see how we go, but what
I suggest is that you embark on it this afternoon. We
will see how we go. If it is obviously an unproductive
way of doing it, you think overnight about how ----

MR. MORRIS: I do not know if I have been misunderstood. I was
trying to be helpful. I was not intending to refer to
every single reference, but to ask Dr. Barnard to pick out
the ones he specifically wanted to refer the court to and
the sections of them. But maybe a better way would be for
Dr. Barnard to identify overnight so that we would save
       time.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us see how we go on that. One thing,
for instance, which I remember Dr. Arnott doing, he was
referred by Mr. Rampton to the Kinland paper and that, for
instance, was helpful, whatever conclusion I draw from
it. I have heard criticism which Dr. Barnard has made of
it, because it purported to take stock at a certain stage,
       I think, 1987.

MR. RAMPTON: One in 1987 and one in 1991.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Of what the state of play was up to then.
Anyway, you start off with Dr. Barnard this way and let us
see how we go. They are not necessarily, you see, in
       chronological order; they are not.

MR. RAMPTON: I should also say, my Lord, at this stage that
the earlier ones which I did not refer to this morning,
11, and -- sorry, I had better give them their names,
Chang Claude which is referred to in Dr. Barnard's
statement and 17, it was 1988 Surgeon General's Report.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you have a suggestion, Mr. Rampton? At
the end of the day, Mr. Morris has to choose how he wishes
to do it because it is his witness.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, it is very difficult for me because
I have read a number of these. I make no secret of the
