Day 007 - 06 Jul 94 - Page 74

1 Q. Some are worse than others?
              A. Correct.
     2
         Q. So HCFCs are environmentally damaging?
3 A. HCFCs have an environmental impact?

4 MR. MORRIS: We will move on.

5 MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is like the question of fact sheet and
leaflet. You have your preferred phrases and the witness
     6 has his.

7 MR. MORRIS: Yes. But HCFCs are still being used, yes?
              A. Yes.
     8
         Q. Even though it was known that they had what you call an
9 environmental impact since about 1988?
              A. Yes. They are used in a very small market; two small
    10 markets.

11 Q. Is not McDonald's concerned that that is still happening?
Why was it not stopped when it was withdrawn in America?
    12
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you think that is better to ask a
    13 McDonald's person?

14 MR. MORRIS: OK. Perseco, did you say that that Pacific, I
cannot remember the name of it now, the Pacific Cup Group
15 in Hong Kong, they are part of Perseco, yes?
              A. No, not at all.
    16
         Q. They are not?
17 A. They are a packaging manufacturer which we are no part
              of.
    18
         Q. I see. So you would not support their continued use for
    19 HCFCs?
              A. From the chart that was there, I do not know they are
20 using HCFCs. They converted to C02 to my knowledge for
              our foam.
    21
         Q. They were buying direct from Dow Chemicals or something,
    22 did you say?
              A. Sorry.
    23
MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, the evidence was that Pacific Cup
24 company bought its carbon dioxide technology from Dow
              Chemicals.
    25 A. That is correct.

26 MR. MORRIS: I might have got this wrong but it was my
understanding that Pacific Cup were using HCFCs in the
    27 early 1990's yes?
              A. Yes.
    28
         Q. Just hold on for one second. It says here on page 43 ----
    29 A. Yes.

30 Q. Point 3 on that page: "Uses of HCFCs 4 to 6 per cent"?
              A. That would be how much HCFC you put into a unit of
