Day 089 - 15 Feb 95 - Page 60

       A. The people who come to visit are Barbara Crawford,
Keith Kenny and David Thomas usually.

  Q. Do they seem to you to be at all concerned with the animal
       welfare side of operation?
       A. I think they all are, I think Barbara Crawford in
       particular.

  Q. Do they have the opportunity to look at your documents?
       A. Yes, we have a totally open book to them. They look at
all our quality control checks, everything they want to
       see.

  Q. Would you allow them to look at the documents relating to
the other 80 per cent of your customers?
       A. That would not be normal practice, no.

  Q. Would you show McDonald's documents to other people?
       A. No. I mean some of the documents are common to
       everybody.

  Q. Like what?
       A. The documents that relate to stunning, killing,
evisceration, quality checks, in that sort of area relate
to everybody, but once are you talking about specific
laboratory checks for a customer's product, then that is
       confidential to that customer.

  Q. Do the other customers come and visit you as often as
       McDonald's do?
       A. The other customers, the principal ones I would say do
visit as often. In fact the three major customers probably
       all visit us frequently.

  Q. Do they show the same sort interest in animal welfare?
       A. Yes, we have a great concern on animal welfare from
quite a large number of customers.

  Q. Mr. Morris seems to think that is funny, my Lord. I do not
know whether he wishes to explain himself.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am sure he does not because he is probably,
for all I know, smiling at some thought a million miles
away, I just do not know.

MR. RAMPTON: I leave it there. Leaving aside customers, you
mentioned the official veterinary surgeon. How often is he
       there at the plant?
       A. He is there every day. His hours of work are between 8
and 5, so he is a full time employee.

  Q. Who is he employed by?
       A. By the local authority.

  Q. Not by Sun Valley?
       A. No.

  Q. Does he have any animal welfare remit in his
       responsibilities?
       A. Part of his job includes animal welfare.
