Day 184 - 06 Nov 95 - Page 60

Ballantyne's wife plays in this whole picture.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is the first time she has come into it.
There is nothing in any of your statements, is there, about
her? If you have a particular positive suggestion to put,
       put it.

MR. MORRIS (To the witness): Did Cam Ballantyne's wife know the
       other parents that were involved?
       A. I do not know.

  Q. OK. I am moving through your statement really. Paragraph
34, the day of the ballot on 24th February 1994. Chris
Broom, Michelle and you started telephoning people offering
them rides if they wanted to vote. Where did you make
       those telephone calls from?
       A. I made them from home.

  Q. What about Chris Broom and Michelle, do you know where they
       made them from?
       A. I would assume they were from home, but I would not
know. I was not with them.

  Q. When Cam Ballantyne took over and Rob Pinkney, were there a
greater percentage of under 18s hired than before?
       A. No, I think it was about the same.

  Q. About the same?
       A. Yes.

  Q. In paragraph 39 you say: "It is incorrect that work hours
were cut unilaterally". Do you remember that the Saturday
shift used to be eight hours and then was cut to four and a
       half?
       A. I never got an eight hour shift on Saturdays when
I worked with Mr. Tingley, so I cannot tell you if they
were cut down or not. I never got any eight hour shifts
when I was working, not that I can recall -- maybe one out
of a fluke -- when I worked with Mr. Tingley.

  Q. You said the work hours, it is incorrect they were cut
unilaterally, in what way were they cut then if they were
       cut?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well ------

MR. MORRIS: Were they cut ---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Ask if they were cut -----

MR. MORRIS: -- but not unilaterally?
       A. What do you mean by were the work hours cut? Between
summer and winter, obviously, there is going to be less
shifts available, so obviously people are going to receive
less shifts in the winter than they do in the summer,
except for the day staff. Day staff get their same hours.

  Q. It is just that why did you put the word "unilaterally"
       in?
