influence, I am not sure how much.

  Q. So do you happen to know who would have received this
Environmental Newsletter No. 1, I mean, in general,
       roughly?
       A. Well, not directly, no, but I would imagine most of the
smaller European countries and I think the Communications
people in the larger offices too would have been aware of
it; whether they received it or not, I am not certain.

  Q. How long have you been involved with McDonald's Development
       Company?
       A. In a purchasing capacity since around 1988.

  Q. Right, so in fact your concerns in purchasing would be
       mainly food and packaging?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. In fact, you have got a major position in the McDonald's
Development Company, have you not, as Northern European
       Co-ordinator?
       A. For Purchasing and Quality Assurance, yes.

  Q. If we go to page 721 in that file, it is just about the
twentieth page in of that Newsletter?
       A. Yes, "Down By Law", is that the one?

  Q. "Down By law", yes, this is issue No. 3, November 1991.
The next three pages, is that all about German trash system
-- sorry, rubbish, Ordinances and packaging, recycling
       system?
       A. It appears to be, yes.

  Q. Did you say this morning that you did not know any details
about this because it was not your area of interest?
       A. I did not say I did not know any details about it.

  Q. What did you say this morning then?
       A. I think the question was quite different, was it not?
Was it not to do with the -- I do not have the copy here,
but was it not to do with the tax being imposed in Kassel?

  Q. Yes, so you know all about the German packaging situation?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, he has not said that.

MR. MORRIS: No, I am asking him, "do you".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Ask him whether he does then rather than say,
"So you know all about the German one".

MR. MORRIS: Yes. (To the witness): Do you know about the
basic situation in Germany for packaging and recycling?
       A. I know of it, but I am not familiar with all the
       details of it.

  Q. Not all the details. So, is it the purpose of this
Environmental Newsletter (which comes from the organisation
that you are a major representative of) to keep various
countries informed about what is happening in other
