Day 260 - 11 Jun 96 - Page 52

MR. JUSTICE BELL: This is the first one?

  MS. STEEL: The first statement.
       A. Yes.

  Q. The only people that are attending these meetings are going
to be people who are involved with the group?
       A. Well, I understood that anyone could attend the
       meetings.

  Q. But the only reason why people would attend the meetings
was if they wanted to get involved with the group?
       A. One would assume so, yes.

MR. MORRIS: (Pause) Sorry, I am thinking on my feet. You say
that you replied to a letter from West Germany?
       A. Yes, at one time, yes.

  Q. You sent what we might call -- if you look behind your
statement number 1, we have the aims and objectives, or
aims and ideals leaflet of London Greenpeace; and that is
the leaflet you sent to West Germany?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Including a whole paragraph, on the second page, about the
McDonald's Corporation and why there was a campaign against
       it?
       A. Yes. (Pause)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just sit down for a moment. We will not have
a formal five-minute break this afternoon, because we
started at quarter past two. But if you get lost at any
stage, then rather than just stand and think, tell me and
sit down and get your place. I will not leave court. Keep
       going as best you can.

MR. MORRIS: Right. You said in your notes, on the second
page -- sorry, I have actually got the report from Kings
Investigation Bureau which I have marked up.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You choose which to use. It is your
       material.

MR. MORRIS: As far as I remember, it is word for word, so it is
not a big deal, anyway. But on the second page of the
Kings Investigation Bureau report, 2nd August ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- the second paragraph:

"The meeting followed the usual pattern as previous ones.
I was asked by Dave Morris to answer a letter from
West Germany from someone wanting more information on the
group, which I did. Letters like this continuously arrived
at the office. After the letters part, the main point of
the meeting was discussed and which groups would be invited
to have stalls at the fair."

Now, a great deal of letters arrived every week to the
