Day 173 - 16 Oct 95 - Page 43
well, or was that a different system?
A. No. We would not necessarily follow that situation.
We would have crew meetings to communicate and to discuss
what was happening in the business, but it was not a
definitive schedule; and, I mean, from memory, it probably
happened every two and a half months.

Q. How often did rap sessions take place?
A. Say, probably twice a year

Q. Twice a year. Can you just explain what you saw as the
difference between the two things?
A. Well, a crew meeting, the entire crew are invited to
the meeting, from the point of view, it is like a staff
meeting. The rap -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I want you to resume what you are saying, but
did you say crew meetings probably every two to two and a
half months?
A. From memory, that was the situation at the time, yes;
and rap sessions was probably with six to 10 people, as a
means of discussing aspects of the operation, how things
were going in the business, if there were any difficulties
in any of the operational changes that may have been made.
It was a communication meeting.

MS. STEEL: Did not all those things come up at the crew
meetings as well?
A. No, not necessarily, because the crew meeting would
take the form of different aspects. We may have been
talking about service or we may have been talking about
training; we may have been talking about reinforcement of
policies in relation to any aspect of the operation. So,
generally, a crew meeting would involve some input from a
couple of the management people in the restaurant, not just
one person.

Q. The rap sessions that six to 10 people attended, were they
people that were invited to attend, or what?
A. Yes, people were -- well, people were invited to attend
by way of a notice that would be put up in the restaurant.

Q. You put up a proposed list of people to attend?
A. No, no. We put up a notice that we are having a rap
session, and anybody who would like to come puts their name
down.

Q. What if the whole store put their name down?
A. Then, obviously, you could not have the whole store.
You would -----

Q. So you would then select the ones you want to attend?
A. Yes. You would do it -- you would select a mixture of
people, full and part-time people.

Q. What about if not enough people wanted to attend?
A. I have never seen that happen.

Q. The crew meetings and rap sessions, were they kind of
scheduled sometimes if you had a particular problem that
