Day 258 - 07 Jun 96 - Page 42

  Q. You also said that you probably got your first update in
       November 1989?
       A. Probably.

  Q. That is what you recollect?
       A. I saw them about once a month, the two directors of the
team. I saw them about once a month at Barlows. So, you
know, hazarding a guess I would think that would be about
the first time I saw them, somewhere towards the end of
       1989.

  Q. Right. Each time you saw them, presumably, they had
something to tell you about what they discovered?
       A. Yes, they just went over their reports and confirmed
       what was in there.

  Q. So, you were getting reports from Bishops basically from a
month onwards from when you instructed them. Obviously,
       not exactly four weeks but--
       A. Yes, I think the first one came rather more quickly
than that because just after instructing them you held
-- sorry, London Greenpeace held their annual fayre and we
got them to attend the fayre.

  Q. One from each company?
       A. No, I do not think so. I think I just sent one.
I cannot remember for sure, but I think I only sent one
       firm to the fayre.

  Q. That would have been Kings then rather than Bishops?
       A. I think possibly that is right, yes.

  Q. The first thing, we have only got one witness who was
employed by Bishops, and that is Mr. Clare?
       A. Clare.

  Q. According to his notes, he did not start going until either
the end of December or the beginning of January. So, you
said there was more than one investigator from Bishops,
does that mean then the other investigator came before
       Mr. Clare?
       A. I cannot tell you. None of them were identified to me,
you see. I do not know then who did the observations.

  Q. You were getting reports?
       A. I was getting reports.

  Q. Right. Mr. Carroll said that he met with an inquiry agent,
either from Kings or Bishops on one or two occasions with
you when they were reporting, this is what he said at the
offices at the solicitors. Do you remember that?
       A. It would be Clare.

  Q. Right. So, on the occasions when you met Mr. Clare,
Mr. Carroll was there as well?
       A. Well, I take it he was as he said so. I cannot
remember him being there, but I brought him into the
inquiry fairly late on, and we took Bishops out round about
June, possibly met Clare twice. I am sure he was not there
the first time I met Clare. They may have brought him
