Day 274 - 04 Jul 96 - Page 29

was an anti-McDonald's fayre in 1989, Anthony turned up as
a result of having gone to the fayre. He said that at the
first meeting he attended. It just gave you the impression
that the group was maybe on a roll again, that we could get
things going. These seemed like fairly ordinary members of
the public. They were not your sort of typical sort of
punk types that maybe went to, you know, were into anarchy
or whatever. You know, they seemed to have, you know,
thoughts about our campaigns and were genuinely interested
in the group, yes. So it made me feel that the group could
move on, could be doing more things now.

  Q. We have nearly finished. I just want to check. You said
that I was effectively not involved with London Greenpeace
activities, I think from about the summer of 1989, August
       1989 onwards?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And patchily before, if at all. Was there anybody else in
a similar position, or had been in the group a long time
       previously to that?
       A. Not quite in the same way. I mean, I suppose I could
say Albert, he had been in the group for quite a few years
before I was involved, but not quite in the same way. He
would turn up for the last 10 minutes of a meeting perhaps,
just to show his face, just catch up on activities. You
would turn up, I don't know, maybe once every couple of
months just to show your face in the same way, I think, you
       know.

  Q. Do you know how long Albert - you would only know this by
hearsay - but would you know how long Albert had been in
the group previous to you joining, whether he had been in
the group, how long he had been in the group for?
       A. Well, I know he had been in for quite a few years, just
because he was involved in the peace movement. I just know
from the history of the group that London Greenpeace was
much more heavily involved in the peace movement maybe in
the early 80s, late 70s. I do not know if he was involved
in the late 70s, but I know he has been involved in the
       group for quite a while.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Where are we going here?

MR. MORRIS: I am going to ask whether.... Well, all right, I
will just check if there are any further questions.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not strain for every last detail. You
have covered the matters in Miss Laporte's statement and
the additional notes and referred her to a number of
       meetings where she was present.

MR. MORRIS: Just one question about Albert. He only crops up
as a name on a couple of occasions in the notes from the
private investigators. If he only came towards the end of
a meeting, would someone's name go down in the minutes or
       be noted or what?
       A. I think it would completely depend on who was taking
       the minutes.
