other people that what they had said was incorrect because
other people had apologised for saying similar things so,
therefore, it must have been untrue?
       A. No. We were just simply pointing out that these people
had said it and retracted it.

  Q. Right, but you were aware, presumably, that Mr. Myers had
       never exonerated McDonald's?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is a matter for me. I have some
information on that. If it is at all relevant, I will have
to decide it on the material that I have.

MS. STEEL: Right. Had you ever seen the correspondence
       surrounding Norman Myers?
       A. I had seen some of it certainly.

  Q. This letter was based on that, was it?

MR. MORRIS: Have we been given all the relevant documents?
       A. I am not sure.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. We have all the relevant documents, and then
the judge can draw his own conclusion.

  MS. STEEL: OK.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, can I just ask a question: Are you still
       involved in litigation matters yourself?
       A. Just this one.

  Q. Just this one now?
       A. Yes.

MS. STEEL: If we go to tab 22, The Manchester Evening News,
14th October 1989, which appears to have been a protest
against the environment/index.html">litter emanating from McDonald's. Do you
       remember this one?
       A. No.

  Q. You do not remember it at all?
       A. No.

  Q. Tab 23?
       A. I am not saying I did not at the time, I cannot
       remember it now.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You are being asked whether you remember it
       now?

MS. STEEL: Tab 23, Wales on Sunday?
       A. No.

  Q. 15th October 1989:

"International rock stars Simple Minds yesterday backed a
demonstration in Wales against American fast-food giants
McDonald's who they claim are involved in deforestation"?
       A. No, I cannot remember the incident.
