Day 135 - 15 Jun 95 - Page 08
Q. So he is wrong about that, is he?
A. Yes.

Q. He also says that you did not take the problem seriously;
true or false?
A. I do not understand what he means by that, to be
honest.

Q. Perhaps we will hear about that in due course. If it means
that you thought it was a just joke and that it did matter,
what comment do you have?
A. Well, no, that is not the case. I mean, obviously,
like I say, Rentokil would have been called. We was paying
a standing charge, if I understand it rightly, to Rentokil
anyway so it would not have cost any money to call them
out.

Q. After Rentokil had been in and attended to the mice, did
the problem recur or not?
A. No, it stopped, if I remember correctly.

Q. It did stop, did it?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Did they come in once or more than once?
A. Just the once I remember, sir.

MR. RAMPTON: Was it ever discovered, finally discovered, or
conclusively discovered, where, in fact, the mice had been
coming from?
A. No, it was never conclusively.

Q. Mr. Sutcliffe mentions a Manager called Mr. Lucas Thorpe;
do you know anything about him?
A. There was no manager in the store called Thorpe; there
was one called Lucas Stanley.

Q. Did he have anything to do with this mouse problem?
A. He would have been a Manager in the restaurant at the
time.

Q. What sort of rank would he have been at? Would he have
been the Manager or one of the -----
A. No, he would have been a Floor Manager.

Q. A Floor Manager. Have you ever done night closing,
Mr. Sexton?
A. Yes, I have.

Q. Roughly, how many people would be doing night closing in
the ordinary way when you were doing it?
A. When I was doing it, it was probably about three or
four of us working overnight.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, thank you, my Lord. I have been a little bit
quicker than I thought.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you. Would you like to sit down,
please, Mr. Sexton? What I will do, I will adjourn till 10
past 11 which will give you just over quarter of an hour by
the time I have said a couple of things I want to say.
