Day 278 - 11 Jul 96 - Page 19

  Q. Now, it was not that I was really interested in. Well, it
is that, but "we are backing Mcspotlight 100 per cent" is
what I was really asking. You were backing, or you are
backing, no doubt, Mcspotlight 10 per cent; yes?
       A. I back the idea 100 per cent of detailed accurate
information being freely available about a large
multinational company which has immense influence over
       people's lives.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But Mr. Rampton asked you whether you were
backing Mcspotlight; that was the question?
       A. I mean, I have not seen everything on Mcspotlight. I
have read about their aim and the kind of things that they
were putting on there, and it sounds like a fine idea to me
to make all this information freely available to members of
       the public.

MR. RAMPTON: Did you, on the second anniversary of this trial,
Miss Steel, did you issue a printed statement outside this
court in The Strand -- would you like to look at it, this
is my only copy so if I could have it back? If you want to
look at the bits that are in yellow, please do.
       A. Yes, I have seen this before, yes.

  Q. It is a joint statement by you and Mr. Morris is it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Will you please read out, because I cannot do it, would you
please read out the short two-line paragraph that has been
yellowed towards the bottom of the page?
       A. "On top of this there is now an Internet web site
'Mcspotlight' where comprehensive information about the
trial and McDonald's can be accessed worldwide at the push
       of a button."

  Q. Yes, thank you. Can I have that back, Mr. Riley? Perhaps
his Lordship would like to see it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think I should. If it is going to be
relied upon I should have a copy of it.

MR. RAMPTON: I am sure I have got a copy somewhere but I just
cannot lay my hands on it at the moment. The actual day of
       the launch, Miss Steel, was?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When it comes perhaps Mrs Brinley-Codd could
       put a post-it with 228 on it?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, yes. The actual date when you and
Mr. Morris launched the Mcspotlight thing in Leicester
square was 16th February was it not?
       A. I know it was in February, I can't remember the date.

  Q. I think it is important you do?
       A. I am not going to argue, if you say it is the 16th I
       will--

  Q. I would like you to look at -- have you got in that little
bundle there -- I am sorry, you will have to bear with me.
Yes, sorry, can you go back to the fourth page?
