Day 071 - 11 Jan 95 - Page 38

liner. So, you are compacting, I think I said, about five
or six bags into one thick liner.

  Q. I am just trying to find out -- let us say -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is the point you are on? I thought the
point was how much environment/index.html">litter was brought back to the store
during the day by the environment/index.html">litter patrols.

MR. MORRIS: I am trying to identify whether that is the
       compacted -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The five barrows winter, 10 in summer, which
was obviously no more than the broadest estimate, was
before the barrow came into use, you said?
       A. But it would still be the same volume of rubbish with
the barrow -- I mean, the amount of rubbish would be the
       same.

  Q. I appreciate that, but it has been put to you that even
compacted, once the barrow came into use, it was still five
       winter and 10 summer?
       A. No, it would be less now.

  Q. What sort of amounts, if you can say?
       A. If I was asked to guess, I would say three to four in
the winter, eight in the summer.

MR. MORRIS: These are, physically, the amount of bags that are
brought in through the front door by the environment/index.html">litter patrollers,
not what goes out the back after it has been compacted; is
       that correct?
       A. That is true, yes.

  Q. How much of that would be McDonald's environment/index.html">litter or is there no
       way of telling?
       A. No, I would have to either do the trash walk myself or
empty the bag out to see what percentage. I could not
hazard a guess at that, no.

  Q. Is McDonald's the main take-away place on that block?
       A. On the Kings Road for fast food?

  Q. You said you cover your trash walk; is that the main
       take-away premises?
       A. It is probably the busiest.

  Q. Are there any other ones on that actual block?
       A. What do you mean by "block"?

  Q. Surrounded by the Smith Square and Royal Avenue, the one
that you do every half an hour, you say?
       A. Yes, well, there is a Safeways on the corner, on the
other corner of Royal Avenue and they do take-away
       sandwiches and drinks.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have got Haagen Dazs on the other side of
       the road?
       A. That is a few hundred yards up the road, on the
opposite side of the road, yes.
