  Q. Right.
       A. So I would imagine sometime in late 1986.

  Q. So, you do not remember being aware of it in August 1986?
       A. Not specifically, no.

  Q. But you think by October 1986 you were aware of it?
       A. I said late 1986. I honestly do not know when I read
the article which related back to that press conference.

  Q. But, at any rate, by the time you found out you had already
       introduced CFCs into McDonald's packaging?
       A. Yes. That decision would have been taken probably a
       year prior to that.

  Q. You said it was in July 1987, I think, that you decided to
       phase out CFCs?
       A. That was when I met with Lin Pac and instructed them to
       phase out.

  Q. You said in your statement: "However as evidence started
to emerge that CFCs might be a contributing factor to ozone
depletion McDonald's took the decision, in about September
1988, to cease using CFCs and we returned to using pentane
       as a blowing agent."
       A. Where are we now?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: In paragraph 19, just below the sentence
which started all this about there being no concern in
1986. If you read on after that sentence.
       A. That is clearly a mistake -- September 1988?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.
       A. Yes, that is wrong.

MS. STEEL: That is wrong. So, when are you saying it was that
       you made a decision?
       A. I instructed Lin Pac in July 1987. We implemented the
       change in July 1988.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is the correspondence we looked at
       yesterday.
       A. Yes. There was a time line from Lin Pac documented to
meetings in November; they gave deadlines for March of 1988
and April 1988 to start trials in the restaurants.

MS. STEEL: So, as soon as you became concerned about CFCs, you
contacted Lin Pac in York, or did you leave it for some
       time before you contacted them?
       A. As I explained yesterday, I had discussions with the
       senior management in McDonald's.

  Q. Right. When would that have been?
       A. That would have been early in 1987. I was given the go
ahead to instruct Lin Pac by the summer of 1987, which
       I did.

  Q. You do not remember when?
       A. When I was given the go ahead?
