THE WITNESS: My apologies.

MR. RAMPTON: We were on, Mrs. Barnes, Margaret Harmer in June
1992. I would like to go back now to page 768 of that file
you have there. Have you 768 at the bottom of the page,
yes?
A. Yes.

Q. That is 11th December 1991, six months earlier, again from
Frank Frost, where he says: "All Store Managers except
Scotland", does that mean nationwide or does that mean in
his region?
A. No, that is in his region, in the North.

Q. In his region. Again it has a great big black "Important"
at the top of page, has it not?
A. It has, yes.

Q. I am not going to read it out, but again it is all about
electrical equipment and how and by whom it should be
repaired, is it not?
A. It is, yes.

Q. And also inspections?
A. Yes.

Q. He says, in the middle of the page:

"Please ensure that details of ALL repairs, et cetera,
carried out on portable equipment, no matter how small, are
recorded in your service history file by the persons
carrying out the repair. NO EXCUSES WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR
FAILURE TO CARRY OUT ANY INSTRUCTION!"

Do you know Frank Frost, Mrs. Barnes?
A. I do, yes.

Q. Is he a conscientious person?
A. He is extremely conscientious and very diligent.

Q. Is he, do you think, exceptionally conscientious, more
conscientious than other people holding similar posts in
the company?
A. All three of them are very similar, actually.

Q. They are all equally bossy, are they?
A. They all equally like for the restaurants to do the
right thing and for them to be on the ball.

Q. Then 774, March 1992, again from Frank Frost, but this time
"to all licensees". Do you see that?
A. I do.

Q. He says: "Our health and safety officer Jill Barnes has
confirmed company's position regarding repairs which can be
carried out in the terms of portable electrical equipment
within our restaurants by our own personnel as follows";
and there he sets out the need for the necessary training.
