Day 127 - 23 May 95 - Page 25

documents, just a single sheet, is it written in
handwriting at the top "Floor Manager post package"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What is a "Floor Manager post package"?
       A. The Floor Manager's post package is an open learning
book that Floor Managers work through with their Restaurant
Manager to prepare them for shift running for -- being the
one in charge of the restaurant for, say, an eight hour
       shift.

  Q. This is something they are expected to read, is it?
       A. It is to read and to cover with their Restaurant
       Manager, yes.

  Q. Under 8, we see -- I am not going to read it out -- a
passage about electricity, do we not?
       A. Yes, there is an electrical warning in there giving
       some information.

  Q. Some of the information is moderately technical, is it not?
       A. It is, yes.

  Q. Are they expected to understand that, are they?
       A. One of the reasons why we ask them to go through it
with their Restaurant Manager who will have been on the
       Advanced Equipment course.

  Q. So when they see this they will understand what it is
       talking about, will they?
       A. Yes.

  Q. There is another document, which I do not know whether it
is legible in your copy, it is page 737. It may be you
have something which is -- does it look like that?
       A. It does, yes, but I am afraid I cannot read it.

  Q. I did at one time have more than one legible copy. I think
may be Mrs. Brinley-Codd has them.

MR. MORRIS: We actually have not got a legible copy.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I think a promise was made of one on a
       previous occasion.

MR. RAMPTON: It was and I do not know what has happened; it is
probably my fault. To save time, Mrs. Barnes, my Lord,
I will read out the relevant passage and then I will pass
       this around.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest is if you read out the
relevant passage and then, perhaps, it could be photocopied
       for everyone on that side.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes. (To the witness): Mrs. Barnes, I tell you
that this is a document signed by Paul Preston, or
originally signed, and it is dated at the bottom right hand
corner 1st April 1991. It calls itself: "McDonald's
Restaurants Limited Health and Safety at Work Act 1974,
Health and Safety Policy Statement (Store locations)".
