Day 155 - 14 Jul 95 - Page 54
not just say, "Go over there and sort it out". They briefed
you to what the situation was, what the practices were
there, the history of the store?
A. In about 20 minutes, yes.

Q. 20 minutes, right, and so what was the reason that he was
dismissed or she was dismissed?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know?
A. I do not know.

MR. MORRIS: They did not?
A. I did not even know his name.

Q. You did not ask?
A. It was of no interest to me.

Q. But the scheduling was very poor, morale was very, very
poor, and all the other things which you said. Training
was very poor, etc., PRs not being done properly, so that
is something that had been going on for some substantial
time.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know?
A. I do not know.

MR. MORRIS: From your experience at McDonald's, would you say
it must have been going on for sometime, that kind of bad
practices could not have just happened in the last couple
of months, could they?
A. Considering the training and the performance reviews
and the morale is all linked, you know, I have known
restaurants to deteriorate in a week; some have taken six
months and some have taken two years.

Q. If PRs were not being done properly, it must have been at
least months, must it not, because they were only done
every so often?
A. Yes, in those days it was every two months, from what I
recall, so it could have been two months, but also they are
not done on everyone at every two months, they are
staggered.

Q. Exactly, so if there had been something wrong with the
quality of the PRs, they must have been going back four or
five months so you could see a pattern to know the PRs were
not being done properly?
A. No, as I have just stated each performance review is
done every two months, so in the 8 week period of a
performance review you could have 30 performance reviews
due in the first week of that 2 month period. The
following week you have one PR. It depends on the date of
start.

Q. Yes, and to see a pattern of poor PR reviews you would have
to look back over a few months to see if they were being
done properly, so it was not just a blip of a few weeks?
We can leave it for comment if you like; we can just leave
it. What was the problem with the staffing levels then?
A. Mainly due to the availability of some of the staff.
