there was no plant in the UK to do it". Then in May 1992
there was some trial at the Garden Festival in Wales after
       McDonald's -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I think you had better stick to what
this witness does or does not know, because if you are
going to read from that statement, you have to go back to
paragraph 9 and we have actually had evidence from the
witness. If you can find a way of jogging his memory, that
is fair enough if, indeed, there is a memory to jog. Is
there anything which might help you, from your experience,
fix on when some granulate or recyclate came out of the
plant which was turned into something useful?
       A. Well, there has been -- something useful has been
coming out of the plant from the moment it has been set
up. The purpose of that first recycling plant was really a
test case for Lin Pac. Their first purpose was not exactly
to make big amounts of money. At that point in time they
wanted to gain experience in recycling. For that purpose,
they sometimes had to just collect material until they got
large enough batches that they could actually put through
the system. Sometimes they were working on different
materials as well. So, I do not know exactly when they
were exactly doing or dealing with the McDonald's material
       at that time.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, there you are. When I said something
useful, I did not just mean the granulate; I meant
something useful in that sense but which was then turned
into something which I might use, for instance.
       A. I doubt whether they even -- they know whom they sold
       their material to.

  Q. Yes?
       A. But I doubt whether they can tell us when that was
used. I know that they can give a precise account of whom
they sold it to, their materials, because I have asked them
for that and they have said literally this material that
came from this plant it is actually blended in with some
other waste streams to be sold to people that make, and he
quoted to me, and that is current, CD boxes, video boxes
       and coat hangers.

MR. MORRIS: So when you joined Perseco, 1991, was it not?
       A. End of 1991, yes.

  Q. When did Lin Pac start taking polystyrene packaging from
       McDonald's to customers -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think the first thing you must ask
Mr. Van Erp probably is whether he knows these things.

THE WITNESS: I think that was -- that had started just before
I had joined Perseco. All the talks were at least that far
that they, when the first actual transaction took place,
I do not know. One of the first meetings that I have had
in that area, they were doing it and that must have been
the beginning of 1992 somewhere and, to my recollection,
they were doing it then. But whether that was January 1992
or whether that was May 1992, I could not tell you.
