Day 184 - 06 Nov 95 - Page 14

       at $6 ---
       A. OK.

  Q. -- but you got up to $6.50, and then the minimum wage is
raised 50 cents to $6.25. Are you following me so far?
       A. Yes, so far.

  Q. Do you know whether you would get the whole of that 50 cent
increase on the minimum wage on top of the $6.50 you were
already getting, or just part of it?
       A. I am not sure. I do not handle any of the money when
it comes to crew and what they get paid, so -----

  Q. If you are not sure, that is your answer.
       A. I am not sure about how it works totally.

MR. MORRIS: You said something about 5 or 10 cents; you were
not sure exactly. Is it the case that when the minimum
wage is raised, it is usually raised above what people are
       getting?
       A. No. Some people make, I -----

  Q. If they are on the starting rate?
       A. If they are -- if somebody was, like -- it just depends
how much minimum wage goes up. Sometimes it will be over
that and sometimes it will not. It just depends on --
I mean, minimum wage does not go up a certain amount every
       year.

  Q. I understand. So sometimes it goes up, and it goes above
what the staff at the store are on, the starting rate, or
       some of the staff?
       A. Sometimes, but ---

  Q. And then -----
       A. -- I have been there, and I have had -- minimum wage
has gone up twice, I believe, since I have been there. The
first time it went above what I was making, but the second
time it did not. So the second time I was making more than
what it had gone up to.

  Q. Right. So the starting rate is something near the minimum
rate, but not exactly the minimum rate?
       A. I think so, yes, but I am not sure by how much.

  Q. The minimum rate is set by -- it is the law, is it?
       A. Yes, it is the government.

  Q. Usually, it goes up something like 30 cents, 40 cents?
       A. I have not -- I do not know. It is just the way it
goes. I have no idea what they are going to raise it by,
and I do not know when they are going to do it.

  Q. When it went up above your rate, can you remember then what
happened? Did it go up 40 cents, and you were 20 cents
       above it?
       A. I cannot remember, I am sorry.

  Q. Does it usually go up to do with -- approximately, like
with inflation; is that the general -----
