Day 005 - 04 Jul 94 - Page 28
1 Q. You are speaking by volume. Miss Steel is asking about
weights?
2 A. I am speaking from having watched my wife over the
years make many cakes. It seems like the biggest
3 ingredient in the bowl is flour. Sugar comes in, but it
is, by comparison, small.
4
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Someone in due course will be able to come
5 up with the facts; query whether Mr. Preston can -----
6 MR. MORRIS: I can help the court. Maybe we should just go to
a document in the American nutritional guide.
7
MISS STEEL: Same file, tab B, No. 5 page 70 -- sorry, not page
8 70.
A. Can you give that to me again, please?
9
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Section B, tab 5.
10
MISS STEEL: Page 73.
11
MR. MORRIS: Have you got page 73?
12 A. Well -----
13 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Before you say anything, I think it may be
the very first part of it, but Mr. Morris will refer you
14 to the bit he wants you to look at. Is it the first bit,
Mr. Morris?
15
MR. MORRIS: Yes. The first two sentences say that the order
16 of listing is in order of decreasing weight. Page 73, but
Mr. Preston has not found it yet.
17
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Are you in section B, first of all?
18
MISS STEEL: He appears to have the right document.
19 A. B5, I have.
20 Q. 73 at the bottom of the page. Then you should have a box?
A. It says: "When listing product ingredients", OK.
21
MR. MORRIS: Then on the first line of 73 is: "A similar
22 format to those in supermarkets is followed for
ingredients listed in this booklet i.e. in order of
23 increasing weight". Is that correct?
A. If it says so, I guess, yes.
24
Q. Then the following page has the birthday cake:
25 "Ingredient list (chocolate cake): Sugar" is the first
item.
26
MR. RAMPTON: That is document dated 1986.
27
MISS STEEL: I think it is the only document the plaintiffs
28 have disclosed in relation to their food in the United
States. To go back to this pamphlet: "McDonald's food:
29 The Facts"?
A. Yes, can you give me the section again, tab 2, OK.
30
Q. Tab 2. We are back on the birthday cake. It is page 22.
