Day 081 - 31 Jan 95 - Page 16
Q. Bear with me one moment, I think I have finished, Professor
Jackson, but I just want to make sure. There is one other
thing I should have asked you about: Did you see whether
there was a metal detector at McKey's on the hamburger
line?
A. Yes, I did.

Q. Did you see it operating?
A. Yes.

Q. Was it operating when Mr. North was there?
A. Yes.

Q. Was it tested in any way when he was there?
A. Yes, the person that showed us around put, I think it
was, a wedding ring on to a burger and showed it being
discarded.

MR. RAMPTON: Thank you. Please remain there to be
cross-examined.

Cross-Examined by the Defendants.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. It is a little early; do you want to
break now or at our usual time, just before 12 o'clock?

MS. STEEL: We can go for a little while and then see.
(To the witness): When you made your visits to these four
establishments, did you do any testing for bacteria?
A. No.

Q. You did not?
A. No.

Q. Did you ask about bacteria counts, what was the standard,
you know, what was the average bacteria count that was
found?
A. No, I asked to see the laboratory facilities but I did
not ask what they had found, no.

Q. So you just asked to see that there was a laboratory, did
you, or what?
A. Yes, and I enquired what sort of work they were doing.

Q. Were you shown any of the records for the tests, the
bacteria tests?
A. Yes, I was shown the typical, I think it was a typical
day's results.

Q. Was that at all four premises?
A. That was at McKey's. I think that was just at McKey's.

Q. Just at McKey's?
A. As far as I can recall, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Did your earlier questions relate to all four
establishments, though, or only to McKeys, the ones about
asking to see laboratories and enquiring what they were
doing?
A. I saw the laboratories at all four establishments, sir,
