Day 133 - 12 Jun 95 - Page 29

all these. I would just like to ask you really about the
first section, "Rewards". "Aware of when eligible for pay
increases". The first two columns are headed what I take
to be "Variation" and "McDonald's", do you see that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What does the McDonald's column mean?
       A. That is the McDonald's international norm.

  Q. I see. The third column is, what, "agreed" ---?
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- "with the question"? The fourth column is "do not know"
       or something similar, is it?
       A. Yes.

  Q. The fifth column is "do not agree" or "disagree"; is that
       right?
       A. Disagree, yes.

  Q. "DA"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So overall for Rewards, 57 per cent agreed with the
question, in other words, a positive response; 23 per cent
did not know or did not give an answer and 20 per cent did
       not agree; is that right?
       A. Yes.

  Q. That showed a variation in favour of the English or the
British Company of 2 per cent on the international norm?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Have I got it right?
       A. Yes, that is what that means, yes.

  Q. If you look at the first detailed question: "Aware of when
eligible for pay increases", we see that 69 per cent of
those 18,000 odd people said that they were aware; 19 did
not give an answer or did not know and 12 per cent said
they did not agree; is that right?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Which meant that in the result you outscored the
international norm by 16 per cent on that particular
       question?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Then it says: "I get recognition when I do good work", 55
in favour; 22 don't knows and 23 per cent did not agree.
"Promotional opportunities available at McDonald's", does
it mean if you work hard?
       A. Yes, I think that is what the full question says.

  Q. That is what it means, yes. I have not looked back at the
       full question.  There again 54 per cent agreed with that;
26 per cent did not know and 20 per cent disagreed. In
that particular case you fell short of the international
norm by 13 per cent, do you see?
       A. Yes.
