were negligent or not.

Q. The Mark Hopkins incident -- this is on page 17 of your
statement?
A. Yes.

Q. Robert Chapman is the witness statement?
A. Yes.

Q. You said that you were contacted at the time?
A. Yes.

Q. Did you help or advise in any way when Jill Barnes was
preparing her reports?
A. No, I did not.

Q. But you knew she was preparing her report?
A. I did. Jill talked to me about it and, in fact, phoned
me up the very morning that it was reported to her.

Q. The report which was issued on 4th November 1992 -- it is
dated that -- did you see when it was produced?
A. Yes. She showed me a copy of it after it was
circulated, as I remember.

Q. In your statement on point 5, page 18 ---

A. Yes.

Q. You do not comment about that, though?
A. No.

Q. Is that just an oversight?
A. I do not actually know why I said that. It is not an
oversight. I am sure he made his comments in good faith
and they will be looked at.

Q. If any or all of those things were happening, would that
give you concerns then, that would lead you to some
concern?
A. I mean, things like turnover of staff, pressure of work
and so on, floor tiling and slipping, yes, they are all
items which need consideration. They would not
specifically individually give me any cause for concern,
however. I would be concerned if health and safety
procedures were being abandoned by managers and that, I
think -- that would give me cause for concern.

Q. It was not an oversight that you did not comment then?
A. No.

Q. You did not want to comment because, in fact, you would
have to make criticisms of McDonald's, would you not?
A. I am sorry, that is simply not so. By having made it,
I have opened it to cross-examination by yourself, and I am
