Day 184 - 06 Nov 95 - Page 39
people do not move out at least until, you know, after
university. So I would consider myself independent.
I consider myself to have an independent mind.

Q. Right. But after four conversations specifically about the
union with Chris Morrison and Sarah Ingliss, you described
that as pressure and intimidation; yes?
A. I said after four specific occasions, but there was
more than that that they would bring up to me the point
that have I signed a card yet.

Q. You felt that was intimidation?
A. No. I said that I was -- I felt like I was being
badgered, like I was being harassed.

Q. Harassment. So is the situation that you expressed
interest in the union, you were considering it, but that
you kept saying to them you had not decided yet; is that
the position?
A. No, I never expressed an interest. Sarah just
said, "Do you want to come over to my house for this
meeting? You know what it is about." So I said, "Sure",
and that was the first meeting. After that, I never, you
know, I never gave to her any hint or I never led her on to
believe that I was all for the union or that I had interest
in it.

Q. You had come to the meeting -- you said you had come to a
meeting voluntarily?
A. Yes; and she just said, "Why do you not at least come
in and hear what it is about"; and I never went to anything
after that.

Q. You said that you did not sign a card at that time because
you had to go to work and did not have time to find out all
the details; yes?
A. That is right. The meeting was still going on, so
there was things I still did not know.

Q. Right. You have said in your statement that you were
uneasy about having signed a card without really knowing
what it meant.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Have you got the page reference?

MR. MORRIS: That is paragraph 13. "So I eventually decided
I did not want to join a union" -- because you did not
really know what it meant?
A. I am sorry, I did not hear the paragraph.

Q. You do not have to look at your paragraph.
A. OK, that is fine.

Q. You can remember what was happening at that time, can you?
A. I remember most of the things. I just do not remember
what I consider minor things.

Q. But, as you say in your statement, you were uneasy about
having signed a card without really knowing what it meant?
A. Yes.
