were not working fast enough? Could you work ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What he said is pretty clear.

MR. MORRIS: OK. I am just clarifying.

(To the witness): Since you left McDonald's, what kind of
jobs have you done since you left McDonald's 10 years ago?
       A. I have worked in a bakery, I have worked for the
Community Care Association in Orpington, painting and
decorating for a while, I have worked in a garage as a
motor mechanic. The last job I have been doing, I was a
steel erector. Then I was made redundant in 1991, and now
I am back working as a steel erector again; it is picking
       up again.

  Q. Looking back at your time at McDonald's, have you any views
on them as a Company or their employment practices?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. Do not answer that question. There is
no notice of this. Ms. Steel took Mr. Baker perfectly
succinctly through his statement, with some elaboration of
the matters which are there. If I accept Mr. Baker's
evidence, it is that which will help me.

  MR. MORRIS: No further questions.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

                   Cross-examined by Mr. Rampton

  Q. Mr. Baker, have you got a copy of your statement there?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You tell us that you were taken on about
       24th November, 1984?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Am I right that the store did not actually open for
       business until 27th December ---
       A. That is correct.

  Q. -- in the same year? So what was the incident just before
Christmas about the clock cards -- because the store was
not having any customers then, was it?
       A. Yes. It was open a week before Christmas.

  Q. Before Christmas?
       A. A week before Christmas it opened.

  Q. Not officially until the 27th; is that right?
       A. I am not sure about that, sorry. But I know we were
       open before Christmas.

  Q. Tell me a little bit about Mr. O'Brien, the Manager, and
his assistant Cassy. What sort of people were they?
       A. In what way?

  Q. What were their qualities as Managers? That is the way
I am interested in. Were they nice; were they rude; were
