Day 255 - 23 May 96 - Page 32

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You need not say what your illness was but
you were in and out of work for sickness, were you?
       A. Yes, I was. Then I went permanently sick in May and
I did not return until December.

MS. STEEL: Are you sure that was 1990 because you said that you
       saw the October 1990 picket?
       A. Hold on. That was when I was suffering. Let me think.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: October 89 was?
       A. 89/90, no I was not at work. I was starting to suffer
from the knee injury but I was at work almost all of 1990
and it was towards the end of 1990 into 1991 that
       I started, so I would be ----

  Q. Right, so you were a year out, were you?
       A. I was a year out. You are quite right.

MS. STEEL: Right. Casio College. Do you remember that one?
Apparently it was published in March 1990 and action taken
in 1990. That is what is listed anyway?
       A. Yes. I obviously dealt with many of these but I just
cannot remember now. Casio college rings a bell.

  Q. Right.
       A. But I cannot even think where Casio College is now.

  Q. Well I do not know, so I cannot help you.
       A. No.

  Q. Tab 41, The Daily Mail, Monday, May 14th, 1990, and listed
as date of action May 1990. Do you remember that one? It
seems to be the letter from America about the Greenhouse
Crises Foundation and destruction of rainforests?
       A. No, I cannot remember that.

  Q. Tab 42, The Mags Independent, 23rd May 1990. Do you
       remember that one?
       A. 42?

  Q. That one again seems to be about rainforest?
       A. I would not have thought I might have remembered that
one. It is a bit unusual The Mags Independent.

  Q. Right. Cumberland News, 12/8/90 or 17/8/90, an action
       listed as being taken ----
       A. I do not even know whether anything was done with some
of these, whether anything was done following some of
these. I mean, they may have come to my desk. I may have
sent some to Barlows or they may just have been put into a
file. I really cannot remember these.

  Q. Right. The next one is a bit more unusual. The New Leaf
Tea Shop in August 1990 which appears to a sign in a window
advising people to boycott McDonald's. A handwritten sign?
       A. That is unusual and I do not remember that one. I
would have thought, had I been involved in that, I would
have remembered that. That is an unusual set of
       circumstances.
