Day 276 - 09 Jul 96 - Page 26

Mr. Gravett may have been particularly free with his
comments about the stalls, seeing as he had organised the
previous two fayres, so he had experience about, you know,
the organisation of stalls and which stalls to invite.

About paragraph 8, the discussion about the design of
the leaflet to promote the fayre. I did not participate in
that discussion at all. I actually remember the
discussion, and it was not about whether the third great
year should be in a star or a circle, it was something to
do with whoever had drawn the leaflet had done a four-sided
star and Jane was just saying that it was ridiculous
because you did not get four-sided stars, it should be
five-sided, and it is made out to be, like, a major topic
of conversation about the leaflet, and I think it was some
minor point that came up and I am sure that I did not
       contribute to it whatsoever.

In paragraph 9.1 of his first statement, he refers to
the picket of McDonald's restaurant in Seven Sisters Road,
and, as we have already heard, this was a picket by Hackney
and Islington animal rights. He goes on to say "this
information was to be passed by other members of the
group". I presume that means passed on by other members of
the group by telephone the following day. Just, if that is
intended to refer to myself, or if anyone is going to try
and say that that refers to myself, I certainly did not
pass that information on to anybody else. I did not attend
the picket and I had nothing whatsoever to do with
       organising it.

Just a similar point in the third statement of Brian
Bishop in paragraph 3. Where he refers to the meeting
being chaired by Jane but lacking in direction.

  Q. The third statement?
       A. Sorry, the fourth statement, it must be. I forgot that
there was the one page 1.

  Q. Yes?
       A. Paragraph 3. In fact I think I might have dealt with
this in the notes, but he says, "The leading members, Helen
Steel, Dave Morris and Paul Gravett were absent". Just,
obviously none of us were the leading members. There were
not any leading members. I think that has dealt with all
the bits of the statements to be dealt with.

No, there was Mr. Howes. I had forgotten about him.

  Q. Yes. He should be at 2A in the same bundle?
       A. Right. Just to say that I certainly did not bring
copies of the fact sheet to court to distribute to members
of the press and I -- the papers behind us on the bench, I
have never seen a pile of fact sheet there, be they
photocopied or the originals. The papers that were behind
us on the bench, it is my recollection that our legal
advisors had various of the papers to do with the case and
that they had those in front of them when they were sitting
       behind us.
