Day 134 - 13 Jun 95 - Page 38
it?
A. I believe it is an indicator, yes, because people have
responded to it and given answers, and it is not as if we
have not presented them quite fairly.

Q. Yes, but it is not an accurate indicator, is it, of their
concerns and grievances?
A. I do not know how you draw the conclusion that it is
not accurate. I do not know what you base that on.

Q. Because it is all positive -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: This witness does not agree that putting
positive questions is more likely to lead to answers of one
kind than putting negative. You have reached the stage now
where you are just expressing a contrary view.

MR. MORRIS: I am just trying to emphasise point that it is not
a question of it being published for the outside world
although, of course, it could be.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I only interrupted then because you were
suggesting that pollsters were totally in the thrawl of
McDonald's which is why they had done it this way. I could
not see the point of that if it was only for McDonald's own
purposes in order to see where they could improve.

MR. MORRIS: But it also has a propaganda value for the staff,
does it not?
A. What do you mean by a "propaganda value for the
staff"?

Q. It has a propaganda value that the Company is gauging their
opinion?
A. It means that the Company is doing that. That is not
propaganda. That is what is happening. That is genuinely
what is happening.

Q. But the company is doing it in such a way that the exercise
is guaranteed to be inaccurate in terms of gauging that
opinion?
A. No, I absolutely do not accept that. I really do not
see how you can say that.

Q. Why have you not -----
A. How you can say that you think it is guaranteed to be
inaccurate when people have responded to it.

Q. Because it is all positive questioning?
A. I have already said, I do not agree with that
characterisation of it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we come back to -----

MR. MORRIS: It is only because the witness was questioning.
A. And I do not believe you know either.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: She only gives the answer because you ask the
question. Let us try something else.
A. With respect, I would like to say that I do not believe
