Day 152 - 11 Jul 95 - Page 68

clean out the drains. It fairly quickly became more
widespread than that. As soon as it entered anywhere near
the food prep area we shut the restaurant.

  Q. For how long?
       A. Approximately two hours.

  Q. Two hours, and did Dyna-Rod solve the problem within those
       two hours?
       A. They did, yes; then it was a matter of making sure it
       was clean.

  Q. Was that the only occasion when anything like that
       happened?
       A. It is the only time I remember, in all the time I was
       there.

  Q. Do you happen to know where the blockage was and was it in
your drains or was it in the council's drains?
       A. I think on this occasion it was actually our drain.

  Q. It might have been your drain?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you actually remember which year it was? I know you are
       rotten on dates.
       A. I remember it was -- all I do remember is it was fairly
early on in my role as Manager in the restaurants; so
       pre-87, maybe 86 or 85.

  Q. One other thing: Do you remember any problems with people
getting electric shocks from one of your toasters?
       A. Not on -- I remember somebody may well have had an
electric shock off a toaster at one time or another, but I
do not remember anything more than an odd occasion.

  Q. In those days we are right in thinking, are we not,
Mr. Davis, that people were allowed to do simple electrical
repairs, even though they have not been specially trained?
       A. That is correct, yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Thank you. Please remain there.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will take our afternoon break there. Are
you content with the usual five minutes, or would you like
       rather longer?

MR. MORRIS: We would like a bit of time to consult with our
witness. Is it possible to have 15 minutes?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You can have 15 minutes. If you want to talk
to Mr. Alemi after court I will be quite happy to adjourn
at, say, five or ten past four to give you a bit of time.
What I will do is see if anywhere in my summary of the
notes of the evidence I can find what, for instance,
Mrs. Mead said about that document. But I would be helped
if sooner rather than later, that is while it is on
       people's minds, if ----

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, we look at the transcript. If necessary,
