Day 259 - 10 Jun 96 - Page 90

       particularly busy.

  Q. But there were hundreds of people at the actual event?
       A. The event was well attended, yes.

  Q. One more question. You made some comment -- I will not
pick them out -- about but the general impression about how
       the group worked?
       A. Yes.

  Q. It may have been made at a particular meeting?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Were your impressions formed over the -- did you jump to a
conclusion at a particular event, at a particular meeting,
or did you make an impression over all the meetings you
visited about the nature of the group?
       A. I understand. My impressions were formed as a result
of all the meetings. I had no particular brief; my
instructions did not point me in any particular direction.
I was merely told to observe and report; and that was the
impression I gained, having attended all the meetings.

  Q. When you say, "It became obvious to me at this and other
meetings I attended that the leaflets were available not
just for the use of persons attending the meetings, but
rather those present were encouraged to take a number of
the leaflets for distribution", et cetera ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- which Mr. Rampton put to you, that would be an impression
that was gained over a large number of meetings, not just
the ones the dates that we have got specified?
       A. That would have been over all the meetings that
       I attended.

MR. MORRIS: OK. No further questions today.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I may have completely misunderstood what
has been happening in the last five minutes, but I take
Mr. Morris and Ms. Steel now to have accepted that the
leaflet complained of was freely available for distribution
at meetings and also the George Roby Public House. If that
be right, and if my agency argument holds, we do not have
to have any more evidence about publication at all.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, I will wait and see. 10.30.
