Day 084 - 07 Feb 95 - Page 21

I will end up arguing one side of the case or the other if
       I do that.

So, if objection is taken, whether or not it has been taken
on some other point, I will rule on it. You have to face
the reality that Mr. Rampton has taken this objection with
regard to evidence about Preston by virtue of his
admission. It seems to me that the only way you can deal
with that is to identify what extra facts about Preston you
want to get in, and ask me if you can now add them. I will
listen to that application. I may not be unsympathetic if
I think it helps us get to the bottom of the case, but that
is what you must do first.

We will resume at 2 o'clock, come what may, with
       Mr. Atherton.

                      (Luncheon Adjournment)

                    MR. JOHN ROBERT ATHERTON, sworn
                      Examined by Mr. Rampton.

  Q. Mr. Atherton, can I ask you, please, to keep your voice
up? It is a difficult court to hear in because the sound
disappears up into the roof. If you speak loudly at me
then everybody else will hear. Equally, if you cannot hear
what I say, please tell me so and I will repeat my
question. Do you give your address, Mr. Atherton, as
McDonald's Restaurants Limited in East Finchley, London,
       N2?
       A. I do.

  Q. What position do you presently hold in McDonald's, the
       British McDonald's, I should say?
       A. My current title is Head of Training.

  Q. Head of Training. When were you appointed to that post?
       A. July of this year.

  Q. July this year?
       A. Sorry -- July of last year, 1994.

  Q. We are not in July just yet although it looks as though we
may greet it in this court in due course. What was your
       previous position within McDonald's?
       A. Operations Development Manager.

  Q. Was that a central office post or was that a local post?
       A. It is a central office post based in East Finchley.

  Q. When did you first join the McDonald's organisation in this
       country?
       A. In 1982.

  Q. Had you had any other employment before you joined
       McDonald's?
       A. I was a student and I had part-time jobs, but it is was
       my first full-time job.

  Q. You were a student where?
