Day 136 - 16 Jun 95 - Page 14

  Q. Right.
       A. I am sure there were other retrofits in the other
       regions.

  Q. So these were all the ones that were done in the southern
       region?
       A. At that particular time, yes.

  Q. Do you know whether any other ones were done and, if so,
       when?
       A. Yes, yes, as a continuous retrofit programme to create
a safe and workable environment for our crew members.

  Q. Would they have been done before or after the ones we have
       listed, do you know?
       A. They might have been done before. Like I said, we
       started using it in 1989/1990.

  Q. When did you start fitting the Swedecor tiles?
       A. I would say approximately three to four years ago.

  Q. So that would have been 91/92?
       A. It might have been, yes.

  Q. How many stores have now got the Swedecor tiles?
       A. All the stores that we are developing now ---

  Q. New stores?
       A. -- have the Swedecor tiles. Some old stores have been
       retrofitted with the Swedecor.

  Q. Do you know what percentage of the old stores have been
       retrofitted with Swedecor tiles?
       A. No, I would not be able to give you a precise amount.
There are cases when the actual store on our advice in
terms of a memorandum going out, they can actually organise
it themselves. So, from a central point of view, we might
not be aware that has been done, but there is a need to
continually improve the safety standards, and if the tiles
are worn or the Altro is worn, then we would invariably
       change it with the Swedecor.

MR. MORRIS: This Swedecor has not got carbohandrum throughout,
has it; it has it just in the top layer?
       A. No, I would say it has got it about half the way
       through.

  Q. I would say it was less than a millimetre, maybe a
       millimetre.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am just not prepared to judge, on looking
at it. It is quite impossible. It is a matter of
either -- can you tell by looking at the side?
       A. Well, I can just see some on the edge here where it has
       been cut.

  Q. Yes, but can you tell from looking at the side how far the
       carbohandrum goes through?
       A. I would not say it was possible, sir.
