Day 133 - 12 Jun 95 - Page 15

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Are they national or are they particular
       areas?

MR. MORRIS: I do not see how they could be national figures.

MR. RAMPTON: I really do not see why they should not be
national figures. I see that there are 430 Managers and
       these are Company restaurants actually.

THE WITNESS: I believe they are, yes.

MR. RAMPTON: That does not include licensees, does it?
       A. It does not include employees of franchisees, no.

  Q. So these are national figures. As I say, notice in
passing, perhaps, with a tinge of regret, that only 20 per
cent of the Managers, that is 86 out of 430, are women. Do
you see that? The bottom of -----
       A. Right, yes, the total.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Could we just pause a moment? If, for
instance, the 442 which Mr. Rampton has drawn your
attention to on 624 A, the first page, was covering all the
Second Plaintiff's restaurants, that is, non-franchised
restaurants, then the number of second assistants of nearly
800 and first assistants of 451, that would make sense
       nationally as well?
       A. Yes, yes, it does.

MR. RAMPTON: I am grateful to your Lordship.
(To the witness): Pass beyond the women and then the men,
       please, Ms. Mead, 624 C to 624 D where, unless I am
mistaken, we come, do we, to a different categorisation of
       occupation or employment?
       A. Yes, it is the office staff and senior Operations
       people.

  Q. Senior Operations people. Again I am interested to look by
way of an example at the senior Operations people, that is
to say, codes 30 and 32, Operations Manager and
Supervisor. The Supervisor is senior to the Operations
       Manager, is he or she?
       A. No. The supervisor is more junior than the Operations
       Manager.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He is the three or four restaurants person?
       A. That is right.

MR. RAMPTON: I had forgotten my hierarchy. Again I can tell
       you that ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I have that wrong. The Supervisor is the
three or four restaurant person and the Senior Supervisor
is the person whose title has now been changed?
       A. Yes. I thought you were referring to the Supervisor.
Yes, the Supervisor has four restaurants and the Operations
Manager is the one to whom the Supervisor reports who will
       have 20 or 30 restaurants.
