Day 171 - 11 Oct 95 - Page 23
(because it is done by questions) has changed a bit over
the years.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But the Putney one was the One Every Mile?

MR. RAMPTON: I think it was, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: A big question mark over how realistic that
is.

MR. RAMPTON: It may not have had actually to do with One Every
Mile, but it was in the One Every Mile file, and that is
how it came into court. One Every Mile was, I think,
Croydon and the Strand.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is what puzzled me about Putney.

MR. RAMPTON: It is just by way of example, that is all.

MR. MORRIS: Point 10, the clock card computer sheets for sample
periods. Now, the reason we added in by hand "for named
people" was only because the impression we had been given
was that it was one person per day, and, obviously, we did
not want to apply for 1,000 documents unnecessarily. But
it now appears that the clock card computer sheets do have
whatever it is, 20 or so people, each day, so it is not the
amount of documents that we thought it would be. So we are
applying for the full sheets; and of course blanking out
names would be completely unnecessary in terms of reducing
the number of documents, as well as for all the other
reasons we said, and would in fact lead to extra work for
the Plaintiffs, in any event. We have specified the second
two weeks in August -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let me just make sure I have this straight,
because I found it confusing when Mr. Richards was giving
evidence. What you are being offered -- query for what
period or periods -- are the schedules, call them work
schedules ---

MR. MORRIS: That is the weekly ones, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- clock card sheets, but not weekly time
sheets -- Mr. Rampton raised no objection to adjustment
audit reports; he queried how much it would help -- and the
excessive hour reports. Have I missed anything?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, not so far as I am concerned.

MR. MORRIS: This is referring to 7 to 11, is it not?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, 7 and 8 -----

MR. MORRIS: 10 and 11. Again, it is the busy period that we
are seeking. If the clock cards computer sheets have been
in place since 1991, or certainly for some substantial time
-- and I cannot remember where I heard this, but I think
Mr. Richards said that they would be kept for certain for
years, the clock card computer records; I think they have
to be kept, by law, for -- I cannot remember how long he
