Day 071 - 11 Jan 95 - Page 29

  Q. I do not know whether this is a silly question or not. If
you have paid for a take-away meal, can you eat it inside
       the restaurant or not?
       A. Yes, we do not stop customers eating inside the
restaurant. It is hard to discriminate between a customer
who is eating in and taking away.

  Q. Then page 809, 10th May 1994, Dr. Taylor is recorded as
having spoken to Alan. Who is Alan?
       A. He is my first assistant manager.

  Q. So he is your immediate subordinate, is he?
       A. Yes, he is.

  Q. About some paper outside the store. He blamed
inconsiderate people who are irresponsible for that. Alan
sent someone out straightaway to sort the situation out.
Do you know whether -- well, put it this way, have you any
experience of people popping into the store from time to
time and saying: "Look, somebody has dropped a load of
rubbish outside, can you do something about it"?
       A. In my experience I have spoken to customers about the
problem and what we are doing to combat it, but generally
I have had a couple of phone calls, it is normally phone
calls, local residents will phone up to say that somebody
has dropped something on their doorstep or outside their
       house.

  Q. Then 810 which is the last document in this file, can you
help with it because I am afraid to say I cannot read it
well enough to make any real sense of it at all?
       A. This was at a meeting with Dr. Taylor.

  Q. Is this your writing?
       A. It is not my writing, no.

  Q. Whose writing is it, do you know?
       A. I am not 100 per cent sure whose writing it is.

  Q. The first part, in my copy at least, is wholly illegible
save that it appears to say "Stacey met Dr. Taylor"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Something until later or environment/index.html">litter. Then it has the words:
"Dr. Taylor was given the opportunity to commission his
       own consultants" or "bin consultants"?
       A. I think it is own consultants.

  Q. Do you know what that was a reference to?
       A. I think it was Stacey met Dr. Taylor and it was
regarding write a letter; it was not the environment/index.html">litter. What it
was, he is an engineer and he had come across a company in
an article in a magazine about odour control.

  Q. Odour control?
       A. This is to do with the smell.

  Q. I am sorry then, it is a red herring. It should have been
blanked out. I apologise for that. Then at the bottom of
the page it says: "environment/index.html">litter" does it or "letter"?
