Day 192 - 27 Nov 95 - Page 36

So it was basically just bringing down huge numbers of
       employees.

  Q. Now, meanwhile, you have said that while these hearings
were going on, there was hostility to union activity, but
an atmosphere of friendliness in terms of the work
environment. You have mentioned some things that were
done: more free food, Olympic hats, things like this. The
"Just Say No" buttons (or badges, as we call them) that
were handed out, when did that take place?
       A. Where did it take place?

  Q. When.
       A. It was during the vote campaign.

  Q. So, how long did the vote campaign last?
       A. It was two weeks before February 24th, 1994; and these
"Just Say No" buttons were given out by swing management.
I think Chris Broom actually started the whole deal with
the buttons, and when you came into work you were given a
       button to wear.

  Q. By whom?
       A. Management; like, at the safe where you come in, the
       employees' entrance.

  Q. Which managers were they?
       A. Swing management, and I believe a couple of assistants
gave them out; like, Patty Galbraith gave them out, the
       Store Manager.

  Q. They gave them out, and then what happened? What were you
       meant to do with them?
       A. You were supposed to put them on your uniform, but
people -- even people that supported the union, except for
the people that were truly identified, like myself and Joel
and Shawn, and people that were openly sort of union,
pro-union, they felt as though they had to wear them, or
else they would be deemed pro-union; and then, I mean, you
were afraid of losing your jobs because of it.

  Q. Going on, you said that Cam had all these juvenile cartoon
drawings made of himself, like a Superman kind of figure.
It may be an object question, but you said, "It was like
you were in grade one or two." Can you just explain what
       you mean by that?
       A. The way Cam presented his -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, I know what that means.

MR. MORRIS: Right. Grade one or two, is that -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I know what it means.

  MR. MORRIS: Right.

MS. STEEL: I do not know, actually.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, I do, and I am the judge. Mr. Morris
will tell you afterwards what it means.
