     3        A.  What would be kept in store is their personal file.  In
     4        the case of crew people that is an application form which
     5        contains their job history whilst they worked for us; in
     6        other words, the rises they have got, any awards they have
     7        got, any discipline they have got.  That goes on there.  In
     8        addition will be kept the reports that have been done on
     9        them, their performance reviews that have been done on
    10        them.  They will be kept.

    12   Q.   They will be kept, what, forever so that if anybody goes
    13        back ----
    14        A.  No, no, they will be kept whilst they are working for
    15        us, of course -- they will not be disposed of before
    16        then -- and then it depends upon the store, or it did
    17        depend upon the store, and I have talked to managers and it
    18        really is a varying degree of time that it is kept.  But
    19        most stores would keep them for a year and then for some
    20        reason, I think, the managers would say, "Because of the
    21        limitation of space we have had this for a year since they
    22        left, let us get rid of it because it is just taking up
    23        space".

    25   Q.   If someone was sacked for dishonesty and three years later
    26        applied for a job in another store you would not actually
    27        know that?
    28        A.  No, there is a coding for the reason for leaving and
    29        that would be ----

    31   Q.   So there are some records kept?
    32        A.  That would be kept; that would be flagged up on the
    33        payroll.

    35   Q.   That would be forever, would it?
    36        A.  Well, certainly for many, many years.

    38   Q.   Ten years, 20 years?
    39        A.  No, no.  As I said, I think payroll is kept for about
    40        five.  I am not sure.

    42   Q.   Is that just if they are dismissed for dishonesty or that
    43        would be for whatever reason ----
    44        A.  No, there is a coding for reasons for leaving.

    46   Q.   Right.  Do you still have a copy of the memo that was sent
    47        around concerning how long these kinds of records are
    48        supposed to be kept for?
    49        A.  The crew records?

    51   Q.   Yes.  You said that was a couple of years ago? 
    52        A.  I did not say -- I do not know how personnel have 
    53        communicated this to the crew -- to the management.  I do
    54        not know whether they do it on their course or whether they
    55        send a memo round.  I simply do not know.

    57   Q.   There would have to be some kind of written instruction,
    58        would there not, going around to all the stores?
    59        A.  Honestly I do not know.  I do not know when personnel
    60        introduced this policy.  I know they have -- they are now
