It upsets the balance in terms of a pH, the microbiology
flora which is the one that really digests the food. It
will upset the animal to the point, it depends on the
amounts, that it will stop producing. It will cause a lot
       of problems to the stomach.

  Q. So far as the farmer, the owner the feed lot is concerned,
how would it benefit the animal's progress in the finishing
       process?
       A. There is no benefit. There are only detrimental
       effects.

  Q. You mentioned a moment ago that McDonald's do indeed have
an animal welfare policy, though it is not in the kind of
detail set out in that memorandum of Dr. Pattison?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. Can you take yellow volume 9, please?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And turn to what I hope is the sixth page of the documents
after it which should be a letter from PABST?
       A. On tab 2.

  Q. In tab 2 you find a statement by you, your first
statement. Behind that there should be some documents?
       A. I do not have any documents.

  Q. Can I pass them up. What I have done, Dr. Gomez Gonzalez,
is to open that bundle at the page I want to you look at,
if you would be so kind. Do not bother putting them into
the bundle at the moment. Ignore those ones and put them
on one side. Look at that letter from PABST which is dated
November 12th 1992. Do you have have it?
       A. Yes.

  Q. It is written to Mr. Gary Johnson. Do you know Mr. Gary
       Johnson?
       A. Yes.

  Q. It says: "Dear Gary, enclosed is McDonald's statement on
the humane treatment of animals. It is accompanied by a
questionnaire (which I am afraid we do not have yet) which
was completed by our raw material suppliers in 1989." What
is it that PABST do for McDonald's?
       A. PABST is one of our suppliers of patties for us.

  Q. They are direct suppliers?
       A. Yes, they are. They are dedicated suppliers to us.

  Q. It comes from the present Henry J. Pabst. Over the page we
have a document headed "McDonald's and the Humane Treatment
of Animals". It is just two paragraphs. Can I ask you, it
saves time, if you read it to yourself and tell me when you
       have finished.
       A. I read it before.

  Q. You have.
       A. I have seen it before.
