Day 092 - 27 Feb 95 - Page 50

       A. Farms?

  Q. Broiler farms.
       A. There are, let me see if I can define "farms".

  Q. Sheds.
       A. OK. I do not know. There are a lot of them. I do not
       know.

  Q. 1,00, 2,000?
       A. You can make calculations. I do not have a pen to go
through calculations. I can estimate the number of birds
that we need per growing season of for a period of 51, let
us say, 50 days and go back and estimate the number of
       houses that we need.

  Q. How many, you would call them, crops of chickens would you
get per shed in a year, is it two or three?
       A. Usually, they go there -- it depends a little bit on
the farm. So, usually they stay there, males in the 40
days -- I mean, females in the 40 days, 40 plus days; males
in the 50 plus days. Then in between that there is a
period of about four to eight days where their houses are
left alone, where they could be cleaned, they could try to
        -----

  Q. So it is actually likely to be about five or six per year?
       A. So you go back in numbers and do that test.

  Q. I cannot really work it out.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You do not have to work it out, I would
suggest. Your point is that there are an awful lot of
sheds; if Dr. Gomez Gonzalez has visited 100 of them since
he started having a particular interest in this in 1979, he
has only visited a fraction of the sheds which provide
       chickens for McDonald's.

MS. STEEL: The 100 that you visited, they were not all
       McDonald's suppliers, though, were they?
       A. They were, yes, yes, they were supplying.

  Q. All of them were?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is still a small fraction of all the sheds
in all the places which supply McDonald's?
       A. Yes, that is correct.

MS. STEEL: When did you start working for McDonald's?
       A. About four years ago.

  Q. About four years ago?
       A. Yes, I believe four years in April, this April.

  Q. So are all those sheds that you visited within the last
       four years?
       A. Yes.

  Q. They are?
