Day 293 - 04 Nov 96 - Page 14
give me mine back. Take a copy of annex 1 and 2 and give
me those. Do it as quickly as possible. If you cannot do
it in five minutes, I will wait.

(Short Adjournment)

MR. MORRIS: What I propose to do is actually come back to that
subject after lunch, because I want to be able to look at
those documents first. In any case, it makes sense to
carry on with the general packaging recycling issue in the
USA. It might be helpful if you could get the Defendants'
list of documents, bundle 6, kingfisher blue.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Right. It is document number 93 and it is the
1989 McDonald's annual report. Actually, it is number 193
of our original list of documents. The Plaintiffs also
disclose this in another bundle, but they have left out
some key pages so it is better to look at our document. If
you can go to internal page 14, it is headed "Recycling".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. (Pause).

MR. MORRIS: If I can just hand your forest document back. I
will hand the others ones out a bit later on when I have
sorted them out. (Handed). Is that the original or have I
got the original here?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, you have given me back my original one.

MR. MORRIS: Oh, I have another one with your handwriting on
it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is the photocopy. Such are the wonders
of modern photocopying, it is difficult to appreciate which
is the original.

MR. MORRIS: Okay.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The one I handed down did have some writing
of mine on it, where I corrected pulp wood to carton board
in three places.

MR. MORRIS: I will sort these out later.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There were no secret messages on it.

MR. MORRIS: Right. I was hoping though! So, yes, this
document, this page and the next page is worth a read all
the way through in terms of what we would say would be
admissions even -- well, admissions at the relevant time of
our case. For example, it basically says how recycling, in
the top left-hand corner, represents a course of positive
environmental action that we are only now beginning to
utilise fully.

And then on the other side of that page: Recycling and
re-use of materials. Recycling and re-use of materials is
a fundamental part of most solutions to ease pressures on
