Day 127 - 23 May 95 - Page 24

call it tuition on electrical safety.

  Q. The last sentence of that paragraph which is underlined
says this: "From January 1st next year, 1992, no employee
will be considered competent to carry out maintenance or
repair of electrical equipment unless they have completed
the revised AEC", which you have told us now includes
specific electrical tuition, "or the old AEC plus the part
       day course on electrical safety"?
       A. Yes, that is the seminar I referred to that was rolled
out to all the restaurant managers and the supervisors,
that part day seminar on electrical safety.

  Q. So somebody who had done an AEC, according to the old
lines, that wanted or was needed to do electrical work
would have to go and do this part day course?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. Then please turn over a few pages to 723, still in 1991,
again from Frank Frost dated 25th June 1991, enclosing to
Store Managers and licensees a sticker which you see, do
you not, on the right-hand side?
       A. Yes.

  Q. On the left-hand side pointed at by an arrow where it is to
       go; is that right?
       A. Yes, that is right.

  Q. I cannot read it in my copy. Is this something that the
       law required now?
       A. It was not something that was specified in law, but
again the Electricity at Work Regulations were based on
risk assessment, and I believe this refers to our air
conditioning units which have three phase electricity to
them. So, we wanted to make sure that they had plenty of
information on it -- on them about the dangers involved.

  Q. I wondered about that because what Frank Frost says is:
"Please position and secure same on the main electrical
       panel"?
       A. I am sorry, that is my mistake.

  Q. Yes, it looks something like ------
       A. We did do something similar with the air conditioning
       as well.

  Q. What is the function of the main electrical panel in the
       store?
       A. The electrical panel has all the trip switches in it.
We have always had miniature circuit breakers in our
restaurants, and that is where they are kept in the
electrical panel. So, if a piece of equipment tripped out,
that is where the manager would look to reset it.

  Q. Do all the pieces of equipment in the restaurant pipe into
       or go through this box?
       A. Generally, yes, although I believe in some of the older
restaurants the set-up is slightly different.

  Q. Then, Mrs. Barnes, if we can turn on to page 734 to
