Day 059 - 01 Dec 94 - Page 64
rather than one or two questions from one person and then
one or two from another, if you can arrange it that way,
otherwise it gets far too disjointed.

MR. MORRIS: Are you aware that the Nottingham recycling
experiment has been mentioned in various McDonald's
leaflets as an ongoing example of the company's concern
about recycling?
A. No.

Q. You are not aware of that?

MS. STEEL: Well, it has been, has it not?
A. Has it?

Q. Yes. Do you want to get down pink Volume V?
A. I still have it.

Q. If you turn to tab 39?
A. Yes.

Q. Page 685?
A. Yes.

Q. In the fifth paragraph there?
A. Yes, I see it.

Q. "We are currently running a pilot scheme at four
restaurants in the Nottingham area" ----
A. OK, I see.

Q. --- "to assess the potential of recycling foam
containers." So you have used this scheme for national
leaflets to publicise what you say McDonald's is doing to
help the environment?
A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we date that document?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, June 1990. It is at the bottom of the page.

THE WITNESS: I think it is 89.

MR. RAMPTON: No, my page says "6/90".

THE WITNESS: OK.

MS. STEEL: It does not say anywhere in that paragraph, does it,
it does not make it clear that you are not actually
recycling any of the foam containers?
A. I have a job seeing exactly what it does say because of
the printing that goes over it. In fact half the words
I cannot read.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It does appear to say that "customers are
asked to divide" something and "into one bin and recyclable
foam cartons into another" and then something "being that
the foam is then collected for recycling into such things
as plant pots, coat hangers, insulation material for use in
the homes, even fillings" ----
