Day 170 - 05 Oct 95 - Page 22

We were asked -- I will explain it in a minute then.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, can I say about this -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Wait a minute. Mr. Morris has not done what
       he wants to do yet.

MR. MORRIS: So there are two Civil Evidence Act notices on some
interview, report of an interview, with Paul Preston and,
I cannot remember, I think Bob Reardon is quoted as well.
I do not know if Bob Reardon is alive actually?

MR. RAMPTON: He is alive and well and living in this country,
which is what I was going to say.

MR. MORRIS: Right. I was not aware of that.

MR. RAMPTON: If he has any evidence to give, he must give it in
person. Mr. Morris can call him.

MR. MORRIS: The other thing is Jeffrey Giuliano, we have a
       signed statement that he made.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Where is the Reuters newspaper report?

MR. MORRIS: Is it not attached to it?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I have Peace and Love from Jeffrey
Giuliano and a letter from McDuff and Milsaps to both you
       and Ms. Steel.

MR. MORRIS: You should have a copy -- I am very sorry, it is an
actual report in a newspaper. I will try and get you a
       copy next week.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Have you got it there?

MR. MORRIS: I have not got a spare copy.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Give it to me on Monday or some time next
       week.

MR. MORRIS: I have only got one copy -- maybe we can copy it
here. The second thing, apart from the Civil Evidence Act
notices, is an opinion of an attorney in Chicago, Reed
Milsaps. This was something that arose as a result of
cross-examination of Robert Beavers. I have not got the
reference with me, but there was some discussion about or
some cross-examination regarding the law in America and you
said something to the effect of, whether multi-national
corporations should or should not be able to sue critics
was a matter for Parliament, not this court -- something
like that -- but that you would, that is something that you
would welcome an opinion on, or something like that,
regarding what the law was in America because I asked him a
lot of questions about whether ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am very surprised if I said it quite like
that. What I might have said was that if you wanted to
rely on a point of that kind I needed proper evidence as to
