from these six further witnesses and I propose to call
them", then you could go ahead before they were actually
called to call any witnesses to deal with their evidence.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, I accept that entirely.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That would not be rebuttal.

MR. RAMPTON: The only problem is that, as time goes by, the
margin of tolerance for such an exercise gets smaller and
smaller. If one was getting into July and one was still
not being told of the remaining however many there were
       were coming to court -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You are calling all what I may call your May
witnesses; that is not just individual incident witnesses?
I mean, Mr. Nicholson we have heard. Mr. Fairgrieve is
going to be called. There is Ms. Barnes in relation to
health and safety and also touches on food poisoning
generally. I think she deals with the young man who was
electrocuted. There is Mrs. Mead who speaks of her own
experience as a woman in McDonald's, positive recruitment
against demographic statistics, and has something to say
about young people and turnover. There is Mr. Stein who
deals with a number of employment topics so far as the
United States and some other countries are concerned. Are
there any other witnesses who one might say are general
       rather than specific incident witnesses?

MR. RAMPTON: No, there are not.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Purslow is an expert?

MR. RAMPTON: He is the expert on health and safety.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So the Defendants have the opportunity to
cross-examine all your, what I might say, general principle
       experts ---

  MR. RAMPTON: Yes, they do.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- before we come to any individual incident
       witnesses?

MR. RAMPTON: That is right. I think I have them right. I was
told yesterday, despite what was said by the Defendants to
your Lordship in December of 1993, Mr. Townsend, we are
told, is not coming unless he is subpoenaed. Mr. Peter
Sutcliffe is coming. Mr. Siamak Alimi is coming.
       Mrs. Sarah Baker is coming.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I made a list of Pattison, Sutcliffe, Baker
Lamb, Harrison and Alimi and Civil Evidence Act Notices in
       respect of Magee and McGill.

MR. RAMPTON: I was not sure that I understood what was being
said about Magee and McGill; whether it was that they were
coming to court. We know they have Civil Evidence Act
       Notices on them.
