       point.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Mr. Morris?

MR. MORRIS: In the previous paragraph, paragraph 17, you
say: "The last telephone conversation I had with the union
was on 21st September." How do you remember such details?
Have you got some kind of record that we do not have?
       A. I cannot recall why I have the date. I must have had
       something to remind me.

  Q. Now, at the end of the strike, as regards the union, the
union was pressing for a conciliation conference, because
it was their understanding -- they wanted to represent
their members; is that correct? That is why they wanted to
have a further meeting with you?
       A. Sorry, was this prior to the -----

  Q. Did the union want to have a meeting with you because it
       wanted to represent its members?
       A. Are you saying this meeting was before -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You just tell us what your recollection is, if
you have one, of why you had the meeting on 7th September.
What did either you or the union hope to achieve by that?
       A. Sorry. Yes, I understand. Well, this was as a result
       of the Labour Court recommendation.

MR. MORRIS: But later -- I am more worried about later on --
the union wanted to meet with you -- is that the case -- in
relation to what was called the National Understanding?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Which is a national wage agreement covering the hotel and
       catering industry; yes?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When was that?

MR. MORRIS: If we look at -- I think if we have the document. I
am trying to save time, but it is not saving time.

MR. RAMPTON: Page 16 of 59A. It is a letter dated
12th November, 1979. I gave the reference when I read out
       the original.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not have page numbers on mine.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, it is 12th November. The response is on
the 21st. It is the next page.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let me just read it.

MR. MORRIS: It is page 13 -- a letter as well.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: If we just look at page 11, it is a letter from the
Labour Court saying that the union -- dated 17th October,
if my understanding of Gaelic is correct. I assume that is
