Day 015 - 21 Jul 94 - Page 37

1 Q. I think the sodium content in America was reduced; I am
not sure. McDonald's chicken sandwich, it used to be
2 cooked up in beef tallow, did it not, until up to 1989,
the chicken at McDonald's, is that correct?
     3 A. I would not know that.

4 Q. I think that is on the chart, I cannot remember, but it is
in one. It can be challenged if the plaintiffs want to
5 challenge it. I would say that the beef tallow had been
changed. May be it is in Autumn 1993, Mr. Rampton
6 suggests. OK. Garden salads -- sorry, I am looking at
No. 3 now, I have gone down.
     7 A. OK, yes.

8 Q. No.3, garden salad, that again does not exist in all
              stores, does it?
9 A. No, that is correct.

10 Q. So that is not a standard item. Regular fries, until
September last year, they were cooked in beef fat, were
    11 they not?
              A. Yes, I think I am right in saying that the data in
12 here is based on -- the information does not incorporate
the latest analysis which was made following the
13 introduction of the new frying oil, so this would be with
              the old frying oil.
    14
MS. STEEL: Which sheet did you take these figures from?
15 A. These calculations were done round about last January,
so they would be in that one, I think.
    16
         Q. This is January 1994. There is one before then.
    17
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you identify which one it was?
    18
MS. STEEL: Which is very similar except it has not January
    19 1994 on it?
              A. Right, I think it would have been the earlier one
20 because I do not think we would have had access to the
1994 one when these calculations were done.
    21
MR. MORRIS: When did you make these calculations?
22 A. Round about January this year.

23 MISS STEEL: You did not get a preview of the figures?
              A. No, I did not.
    24
MR. MORRIS: Could you check that, please? I mean, not now but
25 when you look into your notes to see what document you
              based it on?
    26 A. Yes.

27 Q. If we go to meal 2, McDonald's Big Breakfast. I do not
wish to know what that is, but have there been any changes
28 to the McDonald's Big Breakfast since the winter of
              1989/90?
29 A. I would need to check that.

30 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Could you just give me some idea of what the
Big Breakfast consists of, can you remember?
