and change the light bulbs, which was a sort of, I think,
cause of surprise to us but something that we had to do.

  Q. When was that?
       A. When I was an Operations Manager in Anglia. I do not
       know the exact time.

  Q. What year, do you remember?
       A. Oh, goodness! No, it was just -- I could not put a
specific time on it but it is just talking about that
particular topic and recollections at these times, it was
very strict that you should not touch any electrical
appliances and, I do not know about touching electrical
appliances, you should not do any electrical maintenance
unless you had been on the applied equipment course. It
meant that we had to have external contractors come in to
       change the light bulbs.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Because no-one had been on it?
       A. I believe that that was the case.

MR. MORRIS: So, the position of the company is that it is not
safe for anybody who has not had a basic level of
electrical training, which is that course, or an outside
contractor to do any even minor repair work in electrical
       matters; is that the position?
       A. My understanding of the position is that if a manager
has taken the applied equipment course that there are some,
there is some work he can do within the restaurant. I
really am not -- I do not know where the dividing line on
       this is.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Did anyone pay any attention to the
instructions so far as the light bulbs were concerned?
       A. We did. Yes, we did pay attention to it.

  Q. It startles me. I would have thought someone would say:
"This is a load of nonsense; I will service it myself".
       A. We did say: "This is a load of nonsense", but I do not
know how it eventually got resolved. I believe we hired
maintenance men, trained maintenance men, who were
electricians for a group of stores and they went round and
       looked after various maintenance things.

MR. MORRIS: There is a tool box in every store, is there?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What is usually in the tool box?
       A. It does vary from restaurant to restaurant, but you
would probably find screwdrivers, maybe some spanners, just
normal things that you would find in a box, a standard tool
       box, I think.

  Q. Electrical fuses, for example, little ones?
       A. I do not know, I honestly do not know.

  Q. You do not know?
       A. I do not recollect seeing electrical fuses in tool
       boxes.
