Day 074 - 16 Jan 95 - Page 52

complaint of that kind that you now recall?
       A. There was one complaint but I do not know whether it is
exactly that, when the lorry broke down, a Prestige lorry
       broke down, and while they were loading and compacting;
whether it is that time or not, I am not too sure.

  Q. Who is Bill Austen?
       A. Bill Austen also works for the company in the Head
       Office.

  MS. STEEL: Which department?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: In what kind of job?
       A. I do not know.

  Q. You see, the way I read the first sentence it may be
whoever did it antagonised not only the neighbours but the
restaurant as well, because there is an oblique sign, or
what I take to be an oblique sign there. Might he be the
person who was responsible for getting the rubbish
       compactors?
       A. It could be at that time when those people who collect
the rubbish they were collecting and somebody might have
said to them and they might have answered.

  Q. Anyway, you say you do not recall anything about this?
       A. No.

MS. STEEL: Who was collecting the rubbish at that time, which
       firm?
       A. Prestige.

  Q. Was that something that was arranged through McDonald's
Head Office or was that something that you arranged?
       A. It was done collectively for the restaurant which were,
I think they were in Tony Jeffs' group.

  Q. All the restaurants that Tony Jeffs was the supervisor of?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So you remember a problem then with rubbish bags on the
       pavement?
       A. I do not know anything about that, but the only
incident which I know is when the Prestige lorry that got
       broken down.

  Q. Just the one occasion, you say?
       A. Yes, that was the only occasion which I recall.

MR. MORRIS: I just want to work through these documents as
quickly as possible, Mr. Siddique. The first one is 743,
yes? They are not in date order but let us just go through
them the way they are, otherwise it is impossible. Do you
       have 743?
       A. Yes, I have.

  Q. Do you note that on the right-hand side a third of the way
down it says: "Objectors (to date) 76"?
       A. Yes.
