Q. Do you know whether that booklet is still available?
2 A. I do not know.
3 Q. Because we have not seen a copy of that, but certainly the
one that we have has not got nutritional information in
4 it, has it, the one that is in this file here?
A. The one we looked at yesterday, that is correct.
5
MR. JUSTICE BELL: The Time one?
6
MS. STEEL: No, tab 5. "McDonald's Food - the Facts".
7
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, all right.
8
MS. STEEL: It has the ingredients but not the nutrition
9 information. I think you also said that the adverts were
intended to address topics of importance to McDonald's
10 customers?
A. That is correct.
11
Q. These adverts were talking about cholesterol, fats, and
12 sodium?
A. Cholesterol, fats, and sodium?
13
Q. Yes.
14 A. Yes, that is correct.
15 Q. And about food additives?
A. Yes.

Q. So people were concerned about those things?
17 A. People were more interested in these things, yes.
18 Q. Why do you think they were interested in those things?

and what people put in their bodies, and it was for that
20 reason that people were more interested.
21 Q. Yes. So there was general concern about the links between
diet and health?
22 A. I do not know the percentages, how many were and how
many were not, I mean, it certainly was an increasing ----
23
MR. JUSTICE BELL: If instead of general concern, the question
24 was growing concern, would you agree?
A. Yes, I would agree with that.
25
MS. STEEL: Thank you. So what were your adverts trying to
26 say? Were they trying to say that McDonald's food in its
own right is healthy and nutritious, or were they trying
27 to say that as long as you eat lots of other things that
are good for you, it is OK to eat McDonald's food once in
28 a while?
A. I think the ads were trying to say, and that is
29 consistent with the theme of balance and moderation going
through, that McDonald's food can be part of any well
30 balanced diet. Once again we did not say: "Eat
McDonald's food all the time or 21 times a week". They
