Day 037 - 14 Oct 94 - Page 67
living. Why is that quote in this book?
A. It is not a book about the virtues of vegetarian
living. It is the first attempt to write an encyclopaedia
of vegetarianism.

Q. Why is it in this book?
A. I do not think you fully understand -- well, if you do
not understand the purpose of the book perhaps you do not
understand why certain things have been included here.

Q. Please tell us why it is in the book?
A. I need to see my own copy of the book, because you
have taken this out of context.

Q. Perhaps Mr. Morris would not mind handing you up his copy?
A. I have my own copy actually. Can I draw your
attention, please, to the beginning of the chapter?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest you do, Mr. Cox, is to say
succinctly, if you can, why that is there, what the point
of it is, then by all means refer us to any other part of
the book you want to in order to elaborate?
A. Right.

Q. What is the point you are seeking to make in the part
which Mr. Rampton has asked you about?
A. I am not really seeking to make a point there really.
What this that chapter is about or the section within part
2 which is called "Everything you wanted to know but did
not know where to ask" and subtitle is: "Question,
Questions, Questions. When you are making the transition
to meat-free feeding everything can suddenly seem pretty
perplexing. Well, here are the answers." What I intended
to do in this part was to interview as many people as
possible, a wide variety of people as possible, to see
what problems they had, to see what solutions they came up
with. There are some things that people have said here
that I agree with, some that I disagree with, but I think
it is important, because, you know, vegetarianism does not
belong to one particular person. I think it is very
important to have evidence from as many people, not
evidence but the case histories of as many people as
possible.

If you sort of point the finger at these few lines,
I would say really the only interesting thing here is the
subheading which says "Set a Shining Example". The rest
of the section there which you have not copied I do think,
it goes over to page 37, deals with children and how to
overcome one or two problems people sometimes have with
children. These are social matters, social issues. It is
a long way from nutrition. It is not in the nutrition
section.

MR. RAMPTON: I agree it is not in the nutrition section. Can
you turn, and I am going backwards, back to page 4,
Mr. Cox?
A. Yes.

Q. In the left-hand column page 4 beside the table: "Why
