Day 151 - 10 Jul 95 - Page 19

MR. MORRIS: The court has heard evidence -- I am sure it is
accepted by the Plaintiffs -- that all hourly paid
employees do get a leaving code that is on the computer,
and they are able to have printouts of percentages
nationally for people leaving for certain reasons?
       A. In that case, I stand corrected then.

  Q. Really, you are quite out of touch with what is going on in
       Operations now?
       A. I am out of touch with Human Resources, I freely admit
that. But, in terms of Operations, I think that is a
       somewhat difficult argument.

  Q. Where does Human Resources end and Operations start?
       A. I really do not know. Where does Marketing start and
Human Resources end, and Marketing and Operations, and
Information? Operations is a real conglomerate of the
different support departments. You are involved with
people, you are involved with training, you market your
restaurants, you need business advice, you need computers.
       It wraps up everything.

  Q. Who is your equivalent in Human Resources for the Midlands
       and West area?
       A. Who is my equivalent? Do you mean who runs the
       regional Human Resources department?

  Q. Yes?
       A. Jeanette Rowe.

  Q. When you are area supervisor, you deal with both Operations
       and Human Resources, do you?
       A. Do I deal -----

  Q. An area supervisor has to deal with both those -- whatever
they are -- headings; or do you have an area supervisor for
Human Resources as well as an area supervisor for -----
       A. Yes. I suppose, in effect, you do have an area
supervisor for Human Resources, you are quite right.
I mean, they would have within the department -- I have got
field personnel officers, whose responsibilities -- I think
I have got three now, yes -- whose responsibilities are
split up within the region. So, in effect, yes, I suppose
you would have an area supervisor with a field of
       responsibility for Human Resources.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I would like you to think about just where we
are going now, because there is a limit to how much it
helps me to go into the minutiae of just what the
Operational or Human Resources or general executive system
       is.

MR. MORRIS: I am being a bit disturbed, because I am trying
       to -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is it you are trying to find out?

MR. MORRIS: I am trying to find out whether he can give
evidence about certain areas that he is not actually
responsible for or does not know anything about, and I am
