Day 261 - 12 Jun 96 - Page 49
Things were running a bit slowly.

MS. STEEL: There is a brief reference to this in one of your
notes; but would you also agree that it was a general
feature of the group that when a specific agenda item was
being discussed, somebody would go through the history of
that particular campaign, or whatever, so that everybody
else who perhaps had never been to the group before or had
not been to many meetings would know something of the
background of the campaign and, therefore, be able to
participate if they wanted to?
A. That was not always the case. There was a certain,
I suppose, level of assumed knowledge about certain
issues. However, it was also apparent that certain people
had similar, maybe outside issues, maybe a similar
Animal Rights group, and it would not necessarily be a
single person who would voice an opinion on a single issue;
it may be supported by other people also. But I would say
you did not always get the history of any particular
campaign.

Q. OK. Not on every occasion, but generally speaking, would
there be some kind of brief background given to what was
being discussed?
A. I think it depended on who was present at the
meetings. If it was assumed that the people present were
people who would know, then, no, it was not. However,
there were enough occasions when there were new people
present that things would be explained to them.

MS. STEEL: OK. Thank you.

MR. MORRIS: Just going on from what Mr. Rampton asked you,
before we go on to the actual details, you said you first
saw the London Greenpeace fact sheet, if we can call it
that -- when I say that, I mean that is the official
description of it -- the leaflet complained of, at
Caledonian Road office, or it may have been at the
Endsleigh office?
A. It may even have been at the London Greenpeace fair.
To be honest with you, it is a long time ago, and I do not
really remember the chronology of the meetings. I said
I believed that, and then I was told that the Greenpeace
fair actually occurred before my first meeting, before the
Endsleigh Street meeting. So it is quite possible that
that was one of the leaflets there. I do not really
remember.

MS. STEEL: When were you told that the Greenpeace fair
actually occurred before your first meeting?
A. As far as I am aware, from what I understand what from
was said this morning -- as I said, I do not personally
remember the actual chronology of the meetings and events
I attended -- but from what I understand from what was said
this morning, the first thing I went to was the
Blackstock Road meeting and the second event I went to was
the Greenpeace fair. Without checking my notes, I do not
know if that is true.

Q. But you said you believed that what you said this morning
