Day 012 - 18 Jul 94 - Page 62

1 MR. JUSTICE BELL: How long would you like?

2 MS. STEEL: Could we have until 3.00?

3 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us have our five-minute break now. In
fact, what I will do is I will take away and have a quick
4 look at the documents which were attached to that
additional substantive statement. I will come back.
5 I will not read every word.

6 MS. STEEL: Most of them have been referred to today.

7 MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will have a look at them, then I will
              come back.
     8
                             (Short Adjournment)
     9
MS. STEEL: Have you personally ever spoken to Mr. Gardner
10 about his views on nutrition?
              A. Yes, I have.
    11
         Q. What are you saying that he said?
12 A. When we met with him personally in the office, in his
offices, in Texas, we had an opportunity to talk in
13 addition to the legal matters which we were there for. We
also talked a little bit about ourselves and our families
14 and our children, and it was my clear impression from that
discussion with him that he did not like the type of food
15 that we sold, and that furthermore he was not a supporter
              of McDonald's.
    16
         Q. What do you mean by "he did not like the type of food that
    17 you sold"?
              A. I am specifically saying that it was my impression
18 that he felt products which contain meat, such as our
hamburgers or fried products such as french fries, were
    19 not good for you.

20 Q. Right. So his main concern was health?
              A. I do not know.
    21
         Q. If something is not good for you, that is related to
    22 health, is it not?
              A. His main concern in connection to what we were just
    23 discussing?

    24 Q. Yes.
              A. I do not know what his main concern was; I am just
25 telling you what my impressions were.

26 Q. Do you personally have any evidence at all that that group
of school children that you saw on a video was in any way
27 connected to the Attorney General's office?
              A. I do not.
    28
         Q. What does the word "nutritious" mean to you?
    29 A. To me, personally?

    30 Q. Yes?
              A. Has nutrients, provide nutrients.
