they did. They valued it enough that they were given
rewards for a job well done. They received, you know,
prizes, if they got to a certain level. For those that
made the finals, they went to a banquet. They were able to
invite their parents or siblings. There in front of their
immediate family they received recognition and rewards. In
many cases, the event was covered by the local newspaper
       and sometimes television.

  Q. So that would get the Company publicity?
       A. Yes, it got the Company publicity. It also, I think,
rewarded our crew people. It let them know how important,
how important they are to the overall business. As an
       anecdote -----

  Q. How important it was to work fast?
       A. Well, it was much more than that. I was about to say
-- I do not know if this is helpful to you -- as an
anecdote, there was one gentleman that worked for me,
worked in the organisation, in my organisation, was a 17
year old kid that was very timid. You know, if you went to
speak to him, he would almost, you know collapse.

He really engaged himself in this all-American competition.
He worked in our Garwood store in New Jersey. He was the
best of the best, and his area production at his
restaurant, he won the competition for the New York region.

  Q. Was this -----
       A. Well, let me finish ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just say what the beneficial effect on him
       was, Mr. Beavers.
       A. I am just trying to compose myself.

  Q. Is what you are saying it was good for his confidence and
brought him on a treat, is that it?
       A. Well, it was more than that and I was just trying to
compose myself because I am a still bit touched by
       the -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Very well. Just take a pause. Do you want
to come back and carry on at 2 o'clock?
       A. No, well, I was just going to say that his parents
really felt that -- just a minute.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not worry. We will break off now and we
will start again at 5 to 2.

                       (Luncheon adjournment)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Would you like to finish what you were saying
in your own words and time? You have got to how he had
done in the New York play-offs, as it were?
       A. This individual did quite well. He was the best of the
best in the Company operated stores, and moved on to the
finals for the entire New York region and became a finalist
there. He was not, in our opinion, the best person on the
team, but for that particular area he was the best in the
four state area. The big thing was that his parents
