Day 086 - 09 Feb 95 - Page 59

       A. We do.

  Q. So do not you think it is something you ought to have known
       about it?
       A. I am sure learnt about it and did something about it at
the time, the people that were in position.

  Q. There have been a number of incidents of foreign objects
being found in McDonald's products, have there not?
       A. There have, yes.

  Q. I think Mr. Walker said there was something like about 800
complaints a year, although I do not know whether that
       was ----

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I think Ms. Steel should distinguish
between a "complaint" and an "incident".

MS. STEEL: I did say a "complaint".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: My recollection is he thought there were
about 800 a year and maybe about 100 which had some
       justification.

MR. RAMPTON: The reason I intervened was the first question was
about incidents to which she got the answer, yes, there are
incidents. The second question was about complaints as
though the two were the same, which they are not.

MS. STEEL: No. I used a different word.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Anyway, you know Mr. David Walker, do you, or
       you know who he is?
       A. I know who Mr. Walker is, yes.

  Q. The broad effect of his evidence I think was that he
thought there were about 800 complaints of foreign objects,
mostly plastic, found in products which had come through
him, as it were, which would not include chicken and may be
100 of them were justified or had some justification,
       something like that.

MS. STEEL: Right. You are, presumably, in your position made
aware of that type of complaint?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Is that about the same for chicken products or would there
be more or less of those?
       A. I would say -- what was it, foreign objects we are
       talking about?

  Q. Yes.
       A. I would say with chicken there may be complaints of
slightly more foreign objects in there.

  Q. What type of thing would that be?
       A. Generally a bone, a very small bone slither.

  Q. Have there been complaints about cysts being found in
       chickens?
