       welfare?

MS. STEEL: It does not have anything to do with animal welfare?
       A. I am not sure of what -- when you say the "welfare" you
specify -- what I have understood you only concentrate on
the handling, but the cleanliness, for instance, of the
trucks, the cages which is also, in my opinion, falls into
the welfare of the animal, it is specified.

  Q. That is cleanliness of those things?
       A. Yes, it is part of the welfare of the animals because
       the animals are there.

  Q. There are no specific regulations about welfare?
       A. I told you there are and I mentioned which ones they
       are.

  Q. The ones for cleanliness?
       A. Yes, they are.

  Q. Just the ones for cleanliness?
       A. The ones that I am familiar with, yes. If I remember
correctly, I have not seen the regulations, but I remember
that there is a, what I have been told -- I have not
confirmed the regulations again -- there is a requirement
that the animal must be able, if it is stunned, to come
back to consciousness within a minute.

  Q. Chickens?
       A. Chickens if left -- broilers if left, just as a means
       of testing the equipment.

  Q. Do you know what that regulation is in?
       A. I do not. I just told you, I do not know. I have not
seen it in the regulation. I have been told about it.

  Q. You have never seen it anywhere written?
       A. That is what I have said.

  Q. Of course, you would be familiar with the laws of the
United States in relation to slaughter practices?
       A. I am familiar. I do not know exactly, nobody in this
world knows exactly every word that there is in the
regulations. I am very familiar with the intent of the
       regulations.

  Q. I actually forgot to ask yesterday: Are the lights left on
round the clock in the broiler sheds?
       A. Are the lights?

  Q. 24 hours a day?
       A. In the US at Tysons, do you mean?

  Q. Yes.
       A. I do not know if they are left 24 hours a day.

  Q. You do not know?
       A. No.

  Q. If the ammonia levels were high in a broilers shed, what
