     1 A. No.

     2 Q. Switzerland?
              A. No.
     3
         Q. Iceland?
4 A. The discussions have taken place but I do not think
any formal negotiating links whatsoever. It is a
5 development licence. I am not familiar.

     6 Q. And Ireland?
              A. No.
     7
         Q. Are you aware that in Ireland there have been ---
8 A. Many years ago, yes.

     9 Q. -- disputes?
              A. Well, there was a unionisation and violence issue many
10 years ago which I have a feeling will be talked about in
detail by those people who were part of it. I was not
11 directly a part of it and, therefore, cannot comment but
               -----
    12
         Q. Did a trade union in Ireland win the right to represent
    13 employees?
              A. I have no idea.
    14
         Q. You do not know. I have a report which I believe has been
15 disclosed to the plaintiffs -- I do not know where it is
in the bundle; it may be in our documents -- from the
16 hotel restaurant workers union in Norway, but they signed
a collective agreement with the company last October, on
17 28th October, covering all McDonald's workers in Oslow.
Are you aware of that collective agreement?
    18 A. No.

19 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is there any need to put it to the witness
if he said he does not know?
    20
MR. MORRIS: If he does not know, he does not know. Let us ask
21 if you know about others. In Iceland, are you aware that
the Labour Board ordered McDonald's in Iceland to make
22 deductions from employees that joined the union, direct
              deductions for union dues?
    23 A. Sorry?

24 Q. Are you, say, aware that last year in Iceland the Labour
Board ordered that McDonald's would have to deduct union
25 dues, McDonald's would have to deduct union dues from
              employees' wages direct?
26 A. I am not aware of it but I am not surprised by it.

27 Q. You are aware in Ireland -- you said you were not aware,
sorry. What is your role as a relationship partner with
    28 these organisations, these countries?
              A. I am the link with top management in the States on
29 activities of these countries as it relates to their plans
for growing, their plans for people development and as
30 they grow, as many of them are very small, if assets are
required, be they human or physical or monetary, if assets
