Day 240 - 24 Apr 96 - Page 39
A. Yes, on many occasions both in this country and abroad

Q. Could I ask you to get pink volume 16, and this is the last
matter that we are going to deal with. If you turn to tab
9, page 45, which is a news release from the World Wildlife
Fund in October 1982 entitled "The Hamburger Connection".
In the first paragraph there, they refer to rainforests.
In the second paragraph there is a reference to tropical
forests and in the subsequent paragraphs there are various
references to tropical forests.

Do you know at the time, the World Wildlife Fund were they
specifically only concerned with rainforests or were they
concerned with all tropical forests?
A. No, the World Wildlife Fund were, in the same way that
governments and forestry agencies and scientific
institutions were concerned, were concerned with the
degradation and deforestation of all tropical forest types,
and I would suggest that this is another example of where
the words "rainforests" and "tropical forests" are used
interchangeably.

Q. Thank you very much.

MR. MORRIS: No further questions.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you.

Cross-Examined by MR. RAMPTON QC

MR. RAMPTON: I was not going to ask you any questions,
Mr. Secrett, but we have been on a venture which was not
foreshadowed in your statement, so I am going to ask you
about Costa Rica if I may.

Do you have that Sader and Joyce black and white, I do not
call it a map, diagram?
A. I do.

Q. Do you see the one for 1961?
A. I do, yes.

Q. If you refer to the coloured map which is in front of you,
yes?
A. Yes.

Q. It is not exactly an exercise because there is not a scale
on the Sader and Joyce map, but do you agree with me that,
roughly speaking, looking at the western or pacific edge of
the country, before one gets to the peninsula de Ossa, or
the Gulf e Dulcia, there is a band of white tailing off
into a spike as one goes down the coast towards the Ossa
Peninsula. Do you see that?
A. Yes.

Q. If you look at the coloured map, do you agree that the
spike or end of that tapering off is, roughly speaking,
where Dominical is to be found on the map, the coloured
map?
A. It would appear so from the diagram.
