Day 005 - 04 Jul 94 - Page 49
1 Saturday afternoon?
A. Well, it varies extremely widely, but I would say the
2 statement we give out as a global truism is 27 million
people will eat in a McDonald's every day of the week on
3 average.
4 Q. How many, sorry?
A. 27 million so divide that 14.
5
Q. That is not in the UK?
6 A. That is the global number, 27 million people.
7 Q. What about in the UK?
A. Million and a quarter, million and a half.
8
Q. Per day?
9 A. You said a Saturday. So, on a Saturday probably that;
on a Tuesday, I do not know, 900,000, a million. A
10 million a day on average is probably a fair number.
11 Q. You have 500 stores?
A. 530, I believe now.
12
Q. Would you like to hazard a guess or rough estimate as to
13 say, for example, how many people might eat at McDonald's
in Wood Green High Road on a Saturday afternoon -- it is a
14 fairly busy store?
A. Well, I do not know it specifically, but I would
15 hazard a guess; it is probably rather typical, so whatever
the average is, if it is 2,000 people, 3,000 people. I am
16 not sure but it will be somewhere in that area.
17 Q. You think about 3,000 people in an afternoon?
A. In a day.
18
Q. In a day. I would like you to look at some photographs.
19 I have actually only two sets but I do not think they are
particularly controversial. Perhaps Mr. Rampton and
20 yourself could look at them afterwards.
21 MR. JUSTICE BELL: I suggest you just let Mr. Rampton flip
through them first and then ask Mr. Preston to look at
22 them.
23 MR. RAMPTON: Thank you very much. I will need to know a
little bit more about these photographs, when they were
24 taken, where they were taken, by whom and so on and so
forth, but I do not know what question it is Miss Steel is
25 going to ask.
26 MR. JUSTICE BELL: I suggest Miss Steel asks the question
and ---
27
MR. RAMPTON: I agree.
28
MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- I can decide the significance in due
29 course.
30 MISS STEEL: Thank you. (Handed). Could you look at the first
photograph and tell me how many items of McDonald's environment/index.html">litter
