questions by Head Office in relation to the kind of
       background information for the film?
       A. I do not remember.

  Q. You do not remember? At the bottom of the page, it says:
"There is number of vacancies" -- sorry, not right at the
bottom, near the bottom -- "on any one day", and it says:
"There are always vacancies". Was that the situation at
       the Strand store?
       A. Not all the time.

  Q. Would there be vacancies most of the time? Right. Did the
numbers of crew that you employed fluctuate throughout the
       year?
       A. Yes, busy period, soon as come back from college, and
       it goes higher.

  Q. Were you employing more over the summer when there were,
I do not know, maybe more tourists around?
       A. Yes, we do employ much more, as our students come back
from college and far away; they are studying in Midlands in
the course, and they will come back for the summer period,
so we will take those people; and, additionally, we do hire
       a few more, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you keep your voice up and speak out
towards Mr. Rampton. Then it is easier. I still have the
problem I had the other day, I am afraid.

MISS STEEL: So, mostly, it would be people who are still on the
payroll coming back and starting, because they have come
       back for their college work?
       A. They do not have to be on the payroll, but they do come
back and we roll them back on the payroll.

  Q.   So, some of them are on the payroll and some are not, then;
is that what you are saying?
       A. If they are going away for a very long time, they do
       not stay on the payroll.

  Q. How long is "a very long time"?
       A. Say, if they are going for leave of over two or three
months, they would be taken off the payroll.

  Q. And if not, they would stay on, presumably?
       A. Yes. If they are just taking a holiday or a study
leave, they will stay on the payroll.

  Q. Then you took on extra people for the summer as well,
       or -----
       A. Yes.

  Q. Was the summer a particularly busy period?
       A. Summer and Christmas period are busy periods.

  Q. So the 200 on the payroll, is that during the summer or is
       that during the -----
       A. The busy periods.

  Q. That is during the busy periods?
