Day 269 - 25 Jun 96 - Page 65

Q. -- in the other hand. We looked first of all right at the
beginning of COMA 41?
A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I have got to find my copy.

MR. RAMPTON: I will wait my Lord, yes?
A. It is okay.

MR. MORRIS: What page?

MR. RAMPTON: Page (xix), "summary tables". Can I ask you, have
you got that out?
A. Yes page 19, sorry.

Q. (xix), it is at the beginning. It is the summary of the
tables and, in fact, we can work out more sophisticated
tables by using the tables within, but we will use these
for the time being. The first table, table 1.1, is the
estimated energy requirement for different age groups in
different genders per day?
A. Yes.

Q. We see, let us choose a 20 year old male. May we do that?

MR. MORRIS: Where are we?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Roman 19.
A. There is 15 to 50 year olds.

MR. RAMPTON: No, 19 to 50?
A. Yes.

Q. This is very broad brush stuff, because it does not take
account of activity levels and so on and so forth, but take
a 20 year old male and his estimated energy requirement is
2,515 calories per day?
A. Yes.

Q. If we turn over the page to 20, (xx) at table 1.2. Again I
am comparing apples with apples, because these are daily
figures?
A. Yes.

Q. "The dietary reference values for fat and carbohydrate for
adults percentage of total energy intake are set out
below"?
A. Yes.

Q. And there we see the recommendation of 10 per cent for
saturated fatty acids or 11 per cent if you take that one
into account. Is that right?
A. I think that that recommendation most people,
everybody else with the exception of COMA, would be
recommending something below that. But that is the top
absolute level.

Q. Bear with me for the moment, that is the recommended intake
of saturated fatty acids according to these people.
