Day 097 - 06 Mar 95 - Page 71

       A. Yes.

  Q. How is the packing down? It is done manually, is it, or
       what?
       A. For McKeys it is actually put into the large octagonal
bins they have. Yes, it is tipped in from trays. It is
packed firstly into trays and then tipped into these big
       bins.

  Q. The meat which goes into the opti-bins, if we can call them
that, will not necessarily all be from one animal, will it?
       A. No.

  Q. It might be as much as 5 or 6 or 7 degrees when it goes
       into the opti-bin?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It might be more because it has been 4 to 7
when it has gone into the deboning room?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And it will or may rise a bit there during that operation?
       A. That is correct.

MR. RAMPTON: All right. I am sorry.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Then it goes back into another chiller?
       A. It is generally under 7 degrees, sir, at that point.

  Q. After deboning?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Even at the immediate end of the deboning exercise?
       A. OK. If it has been deboned at 7 degrees, then, yes, I
       suppose -----

  Q. It is going to be up a bit?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. Then you put it in another chiller?
       A. Then it goes into a holding chiller before dispatch,
       yes.

MR. MORRIS: Is it possible to comment? I know we have said it
before. I know Mr. Rampton wants to get things moving
quickly, but it has struck me that a lot of his -- I think
a lot of his questions have been leading questions. There
is no point in jumping up and objecting, but I just feel
that it is important that -- it does not make the value of
       the evidence stronger.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, if you do ask a leading question in order
to move things along the risk is that the answer may not
carry as much weight as it might otherwise do. But at the
end of the day when I have heard your cross-examination
I may take that all into account. You are quite right that
if you object Mr. Rampton ought not to ask a leading
question, but you have got to use your judgment as to where
it is important and where you think that the evidence of
the witness may be either mistaken or untrue.
