Day 124 - 10 May 95 - Page 59

Carry on for a few more minutes with other questions of
       Mr. Beavers.

MR. MORRIS: Right. (To the witness): Just one thing related
to that: Would you not expect to hear about a controversy
such as that if it was reaching national daily papers in,
for example, the UK, as I think we have disclosed an
article in the Daily Mirror about it, which was at that
time probably the second largest selling daily paper in
Britain, would you expect to hear about that?
       A. I would say some of the officials in McDonald's might
hear about it, certainly, our International President would
hear about it, our Communications Department and maybe that
information would be passed on to us, but I do not think
you could draw the conclusion that just because it had made
national headlines that we would hear about it. The fact
it made national headlines in New Zealand or here does not
necessarily mean that all members of management, you know,
       will get the report.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is your prognosis now between you and
       Ms. Steel together?

MR. MORRIS: Our feeling is that we are definitely going to
finish tomorrow in time for Mr. Rampton to make -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to break off now then? If you
think there is any risk of not doing so and another quarter
of an hour or so or 20 minutes will make any difference,
sit down, collect your thoughts and we will carry on, but
if you are absolutely confident -----

MR. MORRIS: We had saved some stuff for tomorrow which I have
not got all the papers for so ......

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to break off now?

MR. MORRIS: I think it might be appropriate. It might be
helpful if Mr. Rampton thinks that we are going on a long
time tomorrow to indicate how long it is likely to take him
or when he would like us to finish to be sure he gets his
       re-examination done.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, at the moment I have only one question in
       re-examination.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Assume that quarter of an hour will do for
Mr. Rampton unless he indicates to the contrary.

  MR. MORRIS: Yes, OK.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: 10.30 tomorrow.

(The court adjourned until the following day)
