Day 166 - 28 Sep 95 - Page 38

       there with the air conditioning?
       A. There, I think that was unit 4 and that did the back
up, what we call the back ups, stock rooms downstairs,
etc., the crew room and some of the lower dining area.

  Q. Right.
       A. It is quite a big restaurant, that restaurant, in terms
of three lobbies with five levels, two of them being split
       level.

  Q. By "lobby" you mean areas where people could sit down or
       eat their food?
       A. That is right.

  Q. Different parts of the store would be different
temperatures? For example, those nearer the kitchen might
warm up sooner or be warmer than other areas further away
       from the kitchen area?
       A. No, not necessarily. Each unit would be -- a unit
would run -- like, unit 1 would do the kitchen so it would
be a certain temperature and that is what that should cope
at; unit 2 would be a certain temperature, albeit, perhaps,
the same temperature, and unit 2 would have to look after,
perhaps, the front service area and the middle dining
area. So there would not just be one unit that did the
       whole store.

  Q. Did you say there were three units at the Marble Arch
       store?
       A. No, definitely four.

  Q. There were four?
       A. At that store.

  Q. What were the other ones, can you just say?
       A. You have got -- there was a top lobby, there was a
middle lobby that had two levels to it, and there was a
downstairs lobby that had two levels to it. Obviously,
there was a kitchen, and downstairs you had on the same
level as the lower lobby crew room and what we call back
ups like stock rooms, plant room.

  Q. Sorry, I am not quite with you. There was one for the
       top -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I wonder whether it matters how many units
there were; could the units all be thermostated separately?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Thermostats were used, were they?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Where were the thermostats -- on the units?
       A. In the control room -- in a control panel, sorry.

  Q. On the control panel of each unit?
       A. In the electric room, yes.

MS. STEEL: There was a control room with a thermostat for each
unit within that room so they were all controlled from a
