1 points because we will probably never get a chance to talk
to you again.
2
MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have to work on the basis that unless
3 something came out of Mr. Langert's communication with
Mr. Kouchoukos, we will not see Mr. Langert again.
4
MR. MORRIS: You said that you dealt with transportation,
5 McDonald's transportation, before you dealt with
packaging.
6
MR. JUSTICE BELL: When you were at Harvi?
7 A. Correct.
8 MR. MORRIS: In the transportation what was your job at that
time?
9 A. I was transportation manager for the Proman Rope
company which is part of the Harvi Group. I was in charge
10 of our private fleet management, to deliver materials to
McDonald's restaurants in the Chicago land area.
11
Q. But you did not deal with any environmental implication of
12 transportation?
A. I only dealt with environmental issues related to the
13 transportation industry at that time.
14 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Incidental to your job as transportation
manager?
15 A. As part of the job; to maximise miles per hour; to
have the best equipment etc..
16
MR. MORRIS: Did transportation use CFCs coolants or agents?
17 A. Back in the 80s, yes.
18 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Sit down for a couple of minutes and check.
19 MR. MORRIS: In Britain there is a great tradition of
complaining about environment/index.html">litter. Do you get a volume of
20 complaints in America about environment/index.html">litter to the company?
A. I have no -- we do not get many enquiries about environment/index.html">litter
21 at McDonald's in the United States, but I cannot compare,
I have no knowledge of the situation in Britain to compare
22 it to.
23 Q. When you open up a new restaurant, a new store, do you get
local authority inquiries about what the public have to
24 say? I do not know what happens in America, but over here
when you open a new store there is a public enquiry and
25 people put in their points of view?
A. Before we open, yes, the same; before we open a new
26 store, you have to go through local processes to get
approval, yes.
27
Q. Do the public have an input into that?
28 A. Yes, public hearings.
29 Q. Are you aware of a complaint about environment/index.html">litter being part of
those submissions by the public?
30 A. I do not have any particular knowledge in that area,
no.
