Day 067 - 15 Dec 94 - Page 69

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you are not going to finish Dr. Gomez
Gonzales tomorrow, we should reckon on continuing him into
Monday. Hopefully, he will finish on Monday and I think we
should then go on to such procedural matters as we have
got. I have retained a hope we might get Mr. Hopkins in
next week if he is available, but I think it is
unrealistic.

What I would invite you to do over the weekend is even
though you will not have finished cross-examining Dr. Gomez
Gonzales is make a new list of procedural loose ends. If
you can type it out as you have done in the past on your
sheet of paper, that will help.

MS. STEEL: I think if Mr. Gonzales is still going to be here on
Monday, it would be helpful if the documents that he
referred to today, he talked about doing audit forms, going
round the slaughterhouses and things like that, were
disclosed some time tomorrow, so we can look at them over
the weekend and cross-examine Mr. Gonzales about them on
Monday.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The three categories of documents which have
been referred to in evidence today which, it seems to me,
it is importantly enquired after with a view to getting
them to London by Monday, if it is possible, are any forms
of documents which refer to the Humane Slaughter Act or the
methods of the Humane Slaughter Act, any forms for the
purpose of monitoring which Ms. Steel has just mentioned,
and any documents of the kind referred to by Dr. Gomez
Gonzales most recently purporting, in effect, to certify
that no Coope Montecillos beef had gone to McDonald's.
I would not be at all surprised if Mr. Rampton is not very
interested to find if there are such documents and what
form they take.

MR. RAMPTON: A goodly number of the latter documents have been
disclosed and are to be found in yellow file XIV.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I appreciate that; it is if there are others
apart from those.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, of course, I had those three categories
well in mind. There are, of course, English audit forms.
What we have not got, as far as I can find, looking through
the files, is an American equivalent. We will certainly
try to get those. So far as documents referring -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do we have audit forms in English?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, we have a McKey form which makes specific
requirements about animal welfare, about layerage, about
slaughter and so on and so forth.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do we US ones though?

MR. RAMPTON: No, that is what I have not got. What I will do
with your Lordship's permission is ask Dr. Gomez Gonzales
if there are similar and whether he can get such material
