Day 095 - 02 Mar 95 - Page 29

MS. STEEL: Yes. It is not I want to get through it quickly,
I just want to save time.

                  (The video recording continued)

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, might I suggest -- it is one we have seen
before -- we could bring over at 2 o'clock the little one
from chambers that we used before and see if it works.
What we will do, if we may, is to take the tape with us and
go back to chambers over the adjournment and see if we can
make it work on the little machine. If we can, then we
will bring it back at 2 o'clock or five to, or whatever.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you need an extra five minutes ---

  MR. RAMPTON: No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- or can we resume at 10 to 2?

  MR. RAMPTON: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us do that and we may run along more
       smoothly then.

                      (Luncheon adjournment)

                  (The video recording continued).

MS. STEEL: Could you pause a second? When you were saying
about the units being stepped in the battery units that you
had visited, is it like that?
       A. A little bit more to the side. I have seen something
like that. I have seen one on top of the other, yes.

  Q. McDonald's suppliers?
       A. No, we do not have, Cargill, we do not have suppliers,
but the suppliers could come from several Cargill
operations. We do not have a dedicated plant, just like
Tyson. On the Cargill side, they may have operations that
look like those in terms of how they stack the cages, yes.

                  (The video recording continued).

  Q. Just pause a second. The birds that were there that had
bald patches, if you were saying -- well, what percentage
would you say if you saw that, what percentage would you
judge of the body was bald?
       A. It is hard to say, to put it in those terms. I have
never seen something like that. I do not know where that
came from. That farm is not typical of what you will see
in terms of how they feed the animals, in terms of how they
cage, in cages or not in cages. I have never seen it like
those, so wide so big, with wiring, you have a lot of room.

  Q. What, where the chicken can get its head through you mean?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You have not seen the wiring that loose?
       A. No.
