trying to do is to feed waste that then comes from a
slaughterhouse that goes to meat and bonemeal to be fed to
the poultry industry, and poultry meat and bonemeal is fed
to the pig industry. That is what is trying to be
       achieved.

MS. STEEL: So do your pigs get the poultry waste?
       A. No.

  Q. Never?
       A. No, I have told you what our basis is.

  Q. Have they ever got poultry waste?
       A. Years ago probably.

  Q. When did you decide not to allow poultry waste in the
       food?
       A. Sorry, not poultry waste, no, poultry meat and
       bonemeal. There is a difference.

  Q. Right, poultry meat and bonemeal, when do you decide not to
allow that in the pig food?
       A. Because we have -- I would say meat and bonemeal is not
economic either, so it is another reason why it is not
used. So, you know, one needs to take that into
consideration as well. I would not think that we have used
poultry meat and bonemeal for the last 10 or 15 years.
I cannot honestly remember beyond that point.

  Q. You were talking about other slaughterhouse waste, there
being a worry about transmission of diseases and
       what-have-you, that is -----
       A. No, I did not say that.

  Q. You did not? I thought you did, something to that effect?
       A. No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, it was the general feeling I think.

MS. STEEL: What was the general concern about using
slaughterhouse waste in pig food then?
       A. Because there is a public conception now (and I can
sympathise with that) of the idea, of you know, feeding pig
       to pig.

  Q. You say "now" so that is something that is recent?
       A. No. This has happened in the last 10 or 15 years. You
know, one does get the feedback from the retailer.

  Q. So when did you stop using that kind of product in your pig
       food?
       A. As I say, I think approximately 10 or 15 years ago.

  Q. Right, OK. Is that the same for your suppliers; do you
have that specification or can they use what they want?
       A. No, they cannot use meat and bonemeal in pigs produced
       for us.

  Q. How long has that been the case?
       A. Since about -- our producers, since -- do not hold me
