Day 104 - 15 Mar 95 - Page 39
not become involved in discussions, but that would be a
long way down the line from the situation with Ms. Hovi.

Q. I was going to ask -- I think you have probably answered it
but I will ask it just the same -- whether the OVS would
have any right under the law to demand inspection of a
customer's meat specification?
A. No, in my opinion, she would not have that right.

Q. Finally, from what you have told us, your evidence about
the incidence of E.coli, and your knowledge of Jarretts
operation, can I ask you this: looked at as a matter of
reality, rather than theoretical possibility, what risk to
human health do you think the meat which leaves Jarretts
premises on its way to McKey presents to human health?
A. I believe that the meat dispatched from Jarretts is
perfectly sound and perfectly fit for human consumption.

MR. RAMPTON: Thank you.

My Lord, those are all the questions I have in chief.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Bennett, would you like to go and sit
down?

MR. MORRIS: My Lord, before we break for lunch, it may be worth
asking a couple of questions relating to the documents.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause, Mr. Bennett. You certainly can
if you wish, yes.

MR. MORRIS: Just on that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: May I ask, it was said that Mr. Pattison
could be here by 2.30?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Was there any possibility of him actually
arriving early or was that the soonest he could get here?

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, my Lord, and to be perfectly straightforward
about it, as I hope I always am, this is an annual
presentation for one of Sun Valley's ----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not need to know. It is just if the
2.30 allowed any margin of error, we might have all got
back 10 minutes early in case he arrived early.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, the position is that he is in a place in
London where he will barely have time to eat his sandwiches
in order to get here by 2.30.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Very well. We will leave it at 2.30 then.

Cross-examined by the Defendants

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There is absolutely no obligation on you to
fill the time until 1 o'clock, Mr. Morris. If you want to
take the opportunity of asking questions, we will rise at 1
