Day 058 - 30 Nov 94 - Page 11

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Morris is quite correct to say as it is
read it does not follow, but it would appear to be a
       mistake.

MR. MORRIS: It would be tons, T-O-N-S, as well, would it not
       rather, than N-N-E-S?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Why?
       A. No.

MR. MORRIS: I thought the 1,000 tonnes of carton board
       production was T-O-N-S.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, T-O-N-N-E-S, Mr. Mallinson said.
       A. Again, Mr. Morris, in my original statement I used
       T-O-N-N-E-S.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There was a misprint there as well?
       A. There was later on, my Lord.

MR. MORRIS: Where was the correction needed in the original
       statement then?
       A. Page 4 of my original statement at the bottom, it says:
"Forest felling and clear felling for pulpwood supplied
for packaging", there at the first line, "for every
       saleable 1,000 tonnes".

  Q. That is correct, is it not?
       A. That is correct there and is consistent with the new
       report.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The mistake was at the top of page 6?
       A. Correct.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, on page 6, is it? Oh, yes, OK.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am not stopping, you, Mr. Morris, from
asking any further questions about page 3, but from the end
of the penultimate paragraph on page 3 we go back to page 1
       and your calculations?
       A. Yes.

  Q. But the point of the last paragraph is that, in fact, all
this forest is required for saw wood consumption which is
       what makes the money?
       A. Correct.

  Q. And since you have got to grow the trees for saw wood
production are you getting what you need for pulp out of
the forest by the way. Is that the point which is made
       there?
       A. Generally, yes. I think his point is more by
explanation than one starts on the whole of the calculation
and the value of the forest on the basis of its most
valuable output and that is sawn wood. I do not think it
is particularly relevant, that paragraph, other than a
natural reaction on his part to cover the whole scene and
       not just the one part.
