Day 031 - 05 Oct 94 - Page 46
figure, which is the sort of figure that the National
Advisory Council on Nutritional Education in the United
Kingdom advised some time ago as being the long term goal,
I think that is not a cautious figure; I think that is a
sensible figure. I think 35 per cent is a cautious
figure. But I think that once you achieve that level of
removing one of the risk factors which we know about, you
then need to start thinking about the other aspects of the
diet that are important in preventative measures.

We have already discussed the n-3 fatty acids as being
important preventatively and also are protective both with
heart and cancer. I think the same applies to the
recommendation that is in the Scottish Report and
elsewhere, that people should be eating more fresh fruit
and vegetables to improve their intake of the vitamins
associated with that aspect of the food chain.

MR. MORRIS: I want to refer you to the World Health
Organisation Report 1990 which has been referred to quite
a lot in this court. I am not sure where you get a copy
for yourselves. I have actually copied the rest of that
report and served it on the Plaintiffs. I am not sure if
that should have been in the material also for yourself?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Was that with Mr. Cannon's documentation?

MS. STEEL: Was it not put behind Mr. Arnott's ----

MR. MORRIS: Yes, I think it was added to Mr. Arnott's
references.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I have it as reference 26 in orange
file, part 2 of orange file IV which is at the back of
Dr. Arnott's references.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So this is a different one to the World
Health Authority Report we have already large extracts
from, is it?

MR. MORRIS: The one I have just handed up to you is the rest
of that report, so we now have the complete report which
arrived in dribs and drabs, but now has to be slotted in
with the rest. I apologise for not knowing which
sections. Page 109 I was going to refer to. Maybe I can
read it out to save the witness having to -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have something which starts like this, and
yesterday I fed into it pages which Mr. Cannon brought.

MR. MORRIS: Yes. You now have the rest of the complete
report.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So these are just the additional pages to
make the report complete, are they?

MR. MORRIS: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: I wonder, my Lord, if could I have a complete
copy?
