     1 breakfast entrees".

2 How far, Mr. Langert, have those experiments or trials in
              reuse progressed?
3 A. They have progressed to a point where we have either
fully implemented or we have arrived at issues that could
     4 not be solved.

5 Q. So they have either found to be unworkable or they have
              been pursued?
     6 A. Correct.

7 Q. "Recycling: According to waste composition studies, 34 per
cent by weight of the solid waste generated at a typical
8 McDonald's Restaurant consists of corrugated shipping
containers. By the end of 1991 McDonald's Restaurants
9 will be recycling corrugated boxes nationwide". Were they
              doing so?
    10 A. No.

    11 Q. Why not?
              A. We could not do it physically; there were not enough
12 recyclers across the nation that handled corrugated,
especially in the remote markets that McDonald's in. We
13 found that we were, basically, the biggest barrier was
infrastructure for recycling corrugated in general was
14 around large urban areas. Then in the remote parts of
Oklahoma or Montana there was physically nobody to pick it
15 up. So our desire was to recycle in all our restaurants
as it still today. We are limited in general by people
16 being able to do it.

17 Q. We are here talking about the recycling of McDonald's own
              waste, are we not?
    18 A. The behind-the-counter commercial shipping packaging
              that comes into the restaurant.
    19
         Q. Putting that out again, if it is possible, to be recycled?
    20 A. Yes.

21 Q. We are not talking about the recycled content of packaging
              supplied to McDonald's ---
    22 A. No.

23 Q. -- for use? Can you turn over to page 9 -- sorry, I have
lost my numbering now; it must be 142 -- and look at the
24 second of those things that I mentioned in the first
complete paragraph on that page. This is April 1991:
25 "McDonald's is currently the largest user of recycled
paper in its field". Do we understand that to mean the
26 catering industry or the fastfood service industry?
              A. I would call it the food service industry.
    27
         Q. Was that a true statement, so far as you were aware, at
    28 the time?
              A. Yes.
    29
         Q. Mr. Kouchoukos gave us yesterday some figures for
30 different years for recycled content. You will find them,
I hope, at the back -- no. You will have there, I hope,
