Day 197 - 07 Dec 95 - Page 38
Q. You told us yesterday that you had read this and that you
confirm the accuracy of what was said in it, do you
remember that?
A. That is correct, yes.

Q. Look at the first paragraph: "I was a crew member at the
Colchester store between July and September 1984, and for
a period of 10 months about one year later". Then the
last paragraph: "On one occasion I remember the
management locking the crew room to the crew because it
was being left untidy. Myself and some other crew members
formed a McDonald's Freedom Fighters. This was a joke
between all of us. But the management took it seriously
and the five supposed ring leaders, myself included, were
taken to the training room and warned by the Assistant
Manager, Mark Davis, that the joke had gone too far, it
must stop or there will be trouble". You confirm that as
being an accurate account?
A. What I actually said was to the best of my knowledge I
was aware that that took place and, to the best of my
knowledge, that is an accurate fact.

Q. It accords with what you told us yesterday which I will be
showing you in due course. I would also like you to look,
if you will, at Mr. Gibney's statement on this issue.
That is the next tab 7. I would like you to look at page
3, the third page. I am afraid they are not numbered. It
is heading (2) with a single bracket on it?
A. I have got that page.

Q. Have you got it?
A. Yes.

Q. In your continuation statement you have said that you had
read the statement made by Simon Gibney on 15th July 1993
and could confirm the facts as stated as true with regards
to section (1) Operational Targets, (2) collective
activity. That is this section that we have in front of
us now.

Do you see that Simon Gibney says -- he confirmed this
when he gave evidence; I can tell you that -- "Within a
month of the Colchester store opening in June 1984, the
Store Manager, Martin Holloway, decided that the crew room
was being left too messy by the crew. In order to solve
the problem he decided to lock the room so it could not be
used. The crew were expected to take their breaks outside
the building and so on. This caused ill-feeling amongst
the crew and, as a form of protest, the McDonald's Freedom
Fighters were borne. This was a light-hearted group of
people who decided to get the crew room reopened by
actions such as joking with the management about a go
slow". Just cast your eye down the rest of the page. I
will not read it out. Tell me when you have finished.
A. I have finished.

Q. You have finished. You have confirmed that as a correct
account of the McDonald's Freedom Fighters incident, have
you not?
A. I have.
