Day 133 - 12 Jun 95 - Page 11

letter, each separate document should have a letter in the
top right-hand corner. That will be document B; this is
       document A that we have.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, mine is cut off. Perhaps you could
identify the letters, Mr. Rampton, if you come to any other
       ones?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I certainly will do. This is
document A. It is the third page from the back. I am
sorry that the pages are not numbered. Does the personnel
audit have any role to play, Miss Mead, in the Company's
finding out what its crew actually think about things?
       A. The audit itself does not deal with people's opinions
other than through looking at the rap sessions where we
check that a rap session has taken place, that sensible
notes are there and that the crew meeting follows it. So
the communications area is in there and, obviously, the rap
session notes are available in any case.

  Q. But if the Company is concerned to know whether for one
reason or another there is an area of discontent, this
would not be a document of particular importance?
       A. Oh, yes, if there was something wrong from it, because
that area is marked, that is how it then is assessed, if
you like, it falls into that area.

  Q. I want to deal, if I may, very briefly because it is a
separate category really, Miss Mead, the question of equal
opportunities. Is that something in which you have taken a
particular interest in your time at McDonald's?
       A. Yes, certainly I have always had an interest in it.

  Q. I am sorry about this; it is necessary, I am afraid. Could
you find pink volume XI, please? Can you turn to tab 3,
please, Miss Mead, which is the Crew Handbook for 1989,
June 1989, and to page 115. There are two page numbers.
It is the bigger which one you need to look for. It is at
       the bottom of the page.
       A. Yes, I have found it.

  Q. Have you got that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. The main title is your new job. Underneath that there is
the Company's equal opportunity employment statement.
I can tell you that it has remained the same at least until
1992, so far as the documents we have got are concerned.
Has it remained the same to date, do you think?
       A. It has had some small changes made to it; in principle
       it is the same.

  Q. Yes. I think it is right, is it not, that in 1991
McDonald's in this country set up an Equal Opportunities
       Group?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Have you been a member of that Group?
       A. Yes, I was.
