1 MS. STEEL: OK. Are there any other reports that stick in your
mind that have involved Sun Valley poultry or do you
     2 remember any others?
              A. Not relating to welfare and slaughter.
     3
         Q. What about in terms of actually the rearing part of it?
4 A. No, I am not aware of any done by anybody else or our
group. That was the first broiler unit at Sun Valley
5 I had observed. The only other visit I had -----

6 Q. You mean the visit made for the purposes of this case was
              the only time?
7 A. Correct. That is correct to a the broiler unit.
I have been to their hatchery.
     8
         Q. Right. When was that?
9 A. It was within the past two and a half years. It was
the blackcurrants season -- hold on, let me think. Two
    10 years ago.

11 Q. What about the other suppliers? Have you had any links
              with them?
    12 A. Of McDonald's?

    13 Q. Of McDonald's suppliers, yes.
              A. Which species are we talking about now?
    14
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you mean other suppliers generally or the
15 ones he has spoken about in his evidence so far?

16 MS. STEEL: Any McDonald's suppliers.
              A. There was cattle a survey by Daly Whittington that
17 covered seven of the beef suppliers to McKey's, and that
their data has been compared in that addendum No. 1.
    18
         Q. Right. That was just the slaughter plant that you
    19 visited?
              A. Correct.
    20
         Q. Yes. Have you visited any of the farms that supply or
21 where the cattle originate from that are used by
              McDonald's?
22 A. No. I think you will find (and I am open to
correction on this) that, since they are mainly supplying
23 cow beef to McKey's, a lot of those animals will be
brought through auction market. That being the case, it
24 would be quite difficult to source those cows in terms of
              their farm of origin.
    25
         Q. You say they are mainly supplied with cows brought through
26 auctions; is that something within your direct knowledge?
              A. When I spoke to the buyer -- I think he is a buyer --
27 for McKey's he said that they buy cow beef from the
Midland Meat Packers. They do buy thick flank from the
28 Scottish abattoirs and that would come from non-cow beef.
              It is from Scotland.
    29
         Q. Right. Those companies, you said Midland Meat Packers and
30 Scottish abattoirs, you are talking about them buying, are
you saying they are buying the cows from the auctions?
