Day 118 - 01 May 95 - Page 45
Q. -- that 39 hours a week was guaranteed?
A. When they are taken on.

Q. Would they get that in writing?
A. I am not sure.

Q. You do not know?
A. No.

Q. Not even as Head of Personnel for several years, you do not
know?
A. No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There is nothing on -----
A. There may well be something in writing, my Lord.
I took this on in 1984 and I just carried on from what my
predecessor had been working to.

Q. I was just going to say there is nothing on Mr. Alimi's
particulars of employment form. There does not seem to be
a space there for part-time/full-time hours, does it? The
first sheet of tab 17, 117? It may be somewhere else.
A. No, he fills out an application form. He shows on the
application form whether he wants to be full-time or
part-time. The application form is not with these papers.

MS. STEEL: Is there anything on the pay slips that you can use
to determine whether or not somebody is a full-time or
part-time worker?
A. No, I do not think so. I am not terribly familiar with
the pay slips. I very rarely see a crew pay slip.

Q. When the Personnel Department or Operations Department are
checking about staff that are working over 39 hours a week,
how do they know which staff are full-time workers and
which are part-time workers who might be working more than
39 hours?
A. Well, they used to be able to tell from the clock cards
which went out -----

Q. So that Personnel and Operations get the clock cards, do
they?
A. They are there on the wall. They are there on the wall
next to the clock card, next to the clock itself.

Q. Right, but when it goes to Head Office for their Head
Office people to check about whether ---
A. No, the managers set -- their clock cards do not go to
Head Office.

Q. No, so how would Head Office be able to tell which staff
were full-time and which staff were part-time?
A. I am not quite sure -- I mean, the hours themselves
would indicate who were full-time.

Q. You have already said that some part-time workers may work
over 39 hours on occasion?
A. Yes, if they are asked.

Q. So you cannot actually tell from just looking at the number
