Day 117 - 27 Apr 95 - Page 16

does not differentiate between Inner and Outer London. Did
the Wages Council ever differentiate between Inner and
       Outer London?
       A. No, I do not think so -- certainly not to my memory,
       no.

  Q. This is to the same year as your memo. In the table under
"Grade or Description of worker", we see different groups
of people. I would like you just to look at those groups
with particular reference to groups 3, 4 and 5 and then
I will ask you a question. I do not want to read them all
out; it is tedious. There are different types of work and
different ages dealt with there, you see?
       A. Yes.

  Q. If you can look at that and then look at the McDonald's
document, your memo of 23rd June 1986?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What I would like you to help us with is where the
McDonald's people would fit into those different groups.
Group 3, this is Assistant cook, clerk (perhaps we can
forget about), floor supervisor - aged 18 or over; do you
       see that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Whereas your table has Floor Managers, Lobby Host/ess,
       Training Coordinator.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, where are we looking? I am lost.

  MR. RAMPTON: 639.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: 639 and 625. Mr. Rampton is pointing out
that the descriptions of the way the people attach to the
rates described are not the same, so he is asking
Mr. Nicholson what might be equivalence.

  MR. RAMPTON:  I do not know the answer to this, Mr. Nicholson;
       perhaps you do.
       A. I used to. It is a long time since this kind of
document has been produced. I think this was the last year
        ---

  Q. It was.
       A. -- that they went into this kind of detail.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But I think one way of putting it might be
crew 18 plus, for instance, on 625. Can you tell us which
category you would put them in on page 639? Would it be
       group 3, group 4, group 5?
       A. It was not 1 or 2, certainly.

  MR. RAMPTON: No.
       A. I am trying to remember. I think we used to classify
       them along with group 3.

  Q. Maybe it does not matter terribly, my Lord. When one looks
       at the figures ---
       A. We are paying over it.
