Day 006 - 05 Jul 94 - Page 47
1 think they have been put in the trial bundles; the
plaintiffs' document No. 46.
2
MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, they are probably charity documents. In
3 view of something your Lordship said earlier, we have put
them into -----
4
MISS STEEL: I am not complaining. I have a spare copy, if you
5 want to look at it. I am sure the plaintiffs have their
copy in court.
6
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you show Mr. Rampton what you have in
7 your hand now?
8 MISS STEEL: We did ask the plaintiffs to bring all their
documents.
9
MR. JUSTICE BELL: It may be it is just so he knows what you
10 are going to ----
11 MISS STEEL: Could you turn to the December 1989 issue?
A. Yes.
12
Q. On page 86?
13 A. Child of achievement awards, yes.
14 Q. It is talking about child of achievement awards, and it
lists the amount of publicity that you got as a result of
15 these child achievements awards?
A. Yes.
16
Q. It is right, is it not, it says: "143 party news
17 cuttings?
A. Yes.
18
Q. 32 competitions in the local papers?
19 A. Yes.
20 Q. One competition in the national women's magazine?
A. Yes.
21
Q. One TV mention and eight local radio broadcasts?
22 A. Yes.
23 Q. So it appears as though that is something you consider
quite important?
24 A. We monitor McDonald's name appearing in the press or
the media all the time. That is rather normal -- most
25 companies do.
26 Q. I think on the next page there is a quote from Mr. Taylor
who you were talking about earlier. I think you have
27 actually agreed now with what he says in there, about "the
success of McDonald's tomorrow being built by you today";
28 it depends on building a positive image. Then he goes on
to say: "Because what you give to the community today
29 will come back to you repeatedly in the form of added
sales for your store"?
30 A. Yes, I agree with that.
