MS. STEEL: When did they give you that figure?
A. When we requested it originally.

Q. When was that?
A. We started monitoring recycling in McDonald's around
the mid-80s. Prior to that we were not aware of exactly
what the recycled content was in our packaging. We knew it
was going on, but we were not aware of the totals. Around
the mid-80s we started to monitor it and have monitored it
ever since.

Q. Right, and how did you monitor it? Did you keep records of
it?
A. No, in -- well, we have records, yes, but in meetings
with the suppliers basically.

Q. So they told you it was 1981 in the mid-80s?
A. When we first requested the information, yes.

Q. And you have remembered it ever since?
A. We have remembered it. We would hardly forget it,
would we?

Q. If you did not have this statement open now and I asked you
the dates when different percentages of recycled paper were
brought in, do you think you would remember them all?
A. No, I do not think so but they are on record in the
Purchasing Department.

Q. They are on record?
A. Yes.

Q. In what form?
A. In the suppliers' file.

Q. Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you got a paper four hole tray or two hole
tray, does that carry anything but the drink?
A. Generally, no, it is usually drinks.

Q. So, suppose I ordered a couple of Cokes and got a two hole
tray and carried that back to my table, what would happen
to the tray then, having carried two drinks 30 feet or
whatever? Would it be used again or would that go in the
bin?
A. Generally, it would be disposed of and recycled.

MS. STEEL: It would be recycled?
A. Generally, yes.

Q. Who by?
A. Well, we try with something as bulky as a two and four
hole tray we try to separate those out because that is
quite a lot of material.

Q. What, someone fishes them out of the bins?
A. When the bins are emptied, yes. In essence, we do not
use a lot of them because, to the Judge's point, in the
