Day 134 - 13 Jun 95 - Page 39

you are an expert in that area either.

MR. MORRIS: No, but I am aware of some basic fundamentals.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will hear what the evidence is about that,
       if there is any.

MR. MORRIS: Also, again because not just the nature of the way
the questions are phrased, but also there is no question
there that says about being unhappy with getting low pay or
       anything like that, is there?
       A. There is not a question like that.

  Q. Or working in unsafe conditions or anything like that?
       A. No, but there are questions about, well, you can see
them here, you can see what the questions are, so ......

  Q. Can you find any questions that say: "I do not earn enough
       money"?
       A. No. I just said, there is not a question that says:
"I do not earn enough money". That is clear.

  Q. Or "I do earn enough money", that is not in there?
       A. No, but there are questions about pay, about pay
       increases, getting (indecipherable), promotional
       opportunity and so on.

  Q. There is nothing there about being pressurised to work
hard, whether it is phrased for or against it, but there is
nothing there, is there, about pressure of work?
       A. No, I cannot see a question like that and I do not
recollect one that uses the word "pressure", no.

  Q. Whether it is "pressure" or just about having to work so
hard, and complaints about that, that it is unfair or that
       it is fair?
       A. Yes, but -----

  Q. There is nothing in there?
       A. I am sorry, I do not want to get into an argument but
       under the barometer section ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is your objection to working hard and
being encouraged to work really hard? I can see all
       about ---

MR. MORRIS: Because the pay is so low.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: -- working, hot and rushing and everything
else, but you are going to have to do a lot to persuade me
that there is anything wrong at all with working as
absolutely as hard as you can in whatever job you are given
to do. I do not think you are going to suggest that, are
       you?

MR. MORRIS: I think when you are only paid 2.20 an hour or
       something -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is low pay, but there is nothing wrong
with hard work; lots of people enjoy working hard?
