Day 182 - 02 Nov 95 - Page 27
McDonald's.

Q. How long did he spend in the store at that time?
A. Well, I worked on one Saturday. I can say I was there
all day, I might have been there more days, but Saturdays
is the busiest day in our store and people went into
meetings with him as they were working for about 10 minutes
or so, perhaps, and then came back, so .....

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But they went in individually to speak to him
one at a time, did they?
A. Well, the office is on the second floor and the first
floor, it is upstairs from the restaurant, so all I can say
is that I was brought up there, had a meeting with him and
saw other people who walked up the stairs and coming down,
talking about having a meeting with him.

MR. MORRIS: Mr. Graham refers to a rap session, a normal rap
session. He says: "The only meetings I had with crew
members were the normal rap sessions". Could you comment
about that?
A. Yes. Rap sessions are small individual meetings,
usually with the Store Manager and an employee.
I personally cannot remember one single occasion where
I have been to a rap session, except possibly at the time
we were talking about the union, Martin Graham, so .....

Q. What do you mean "possibly"?
A. Well .....

Q. You mean a rap session in terms of -----
A. Well, that is what the rap session is about then. If
that was the rap session I was at, then that might be what
a rap session is, that you are called to, summoned to, a
meeting and discuss whatever is relevant in the store. At
this moment it was the union. But I have never been called
to a rap session at any other time except that once.

Q. Right. Just to clarify this, we have heard in this country
there are rap sessions where maybe six to eight, or
something, staff attend with a supervisor from a different
area or something, comes in; is that what you are saying
you have never heard about or never ---
A. Well ---

Q. -- experienced?
A. -- as Swing Managers, Floor Managers, sorry, we had
meetings occasionally where we went out and had a pizza and
discussed: Well, how can we improve McDonald's? But I
have never had individual meetings with supervisors or
store managers except for that, that one occasion.

Q. So when you had this meeting with Mr. Graham, did he say:
"This is a rap session" or something?
A. No, no.

Q. Right. Coming onto the benefits gained by union
recognition: You have verified the document we served this
morning, which is that one of the improvements gained by
union recognition was that the laws relating to your
