Day 059 - 01 Dec 94 - Page 32

       A. Yes.

  Q. I am only going to ask you a few questions about this. As
you see, it is split up by continent, do you see that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Europe, for reasons of convenience, contains Morocco and
Turkey which might be thought arguable as well as ordinary
European countries. One notices that in Europe, Austria
and Germany use paperboard for their sandwich containers,
       yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You have explained the reason for that, I think?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Notice in the next column that Sweden also does so; do you
       know the reason for that?
       A. Yes, the Swedes support their timber industry. It is
       as simple as that.

  Q. Do different countries have different ways of disposing of
their waste? I mean, incineration is one means, is it not?
       A. Yes, it is. Sweden is probably the strongest market in
Europe with incineration. I think 97 per cent of the
       energy used in Stockholm is derived from incineration;
similarly, 75 per cent of the energy used in Switzerland is
derived from incineration. On the other hand, you have
Germany and Austria whose incineration systems are very
antiquated and, therefore, they do not favour incineration
and they do have a landfill problem so their objective is
to reduce the source of packaging.

  Q. So what do they do? Those two use paper, do they not,
       Austria and Germany?
       A. They use paper which is recycled.

  Q. There is another question about this document: One notices
that -- I think this is right -- what one might call the
old Soviet block countries, Czech Republic, yes, which is
fourth down, they are listed alphabetically ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. Hungary, yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Moscow?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And Poland in the next column?
       A. Yes.

  Q. All use wraps, paper wraps?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you know what the reason for that might be?
       A. Frankly, wraps, cardboard clam shells or polystyrene
boxes generally are not available in any of those
       countries.
