  Q. Had David Wynne just left at this time when this audit was
done in February 1994, or you could be mixing up -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you remember?

MR. MORRIS: It is not crucial.

MR. RAMPTON: I do, in fact, have -- not in written form -- the
dates of the Managers. I will not give them out if your
Lordship would prefer me not to, but I do have ------

  MR. JUSTICE BELL:  If you can give it, subject to confirmation;
if it turns up to be important at all, then do so. We can
work on the basis that that at least might be the
position. Do you have the date?

MR. RAMPTON: I do, my Lord. I have not got the position where
I can hand it in. I can read it out.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just give us a date, Mr. Rampton.

MR. RAMPTON: Jane Jarvis was 1st August 1990 until 27th January
1992; then came Mr. Charlesworth from 27th January 1992
until 27th June 1993; then Mr. Wynne from 27th June 1993
until 1st February 1994; then Mr. Fenwick from 1st February
1994 until 1st July 1994; and then Mr. Phil Cummings from
1st July 1994 to the present day.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Thank you. That was very helpful.
(To the witness): Could you look on page 171, the results
of this store audit? Do you see a B minus, D plus, B plus,
C minus, F, D plus, C minus? Is that a pretty bad rating
       overall?
       A. I am sorry, the overall is C minus, which is -----

  Q. I am sorry, the overall is C minus. That is a pretty bad
       rating; yes?
       A. It would -- it is below what we would like to see,
       which would be a B.

  Q. Right. Was any disciplinary action taken against anybody
as a result of this or any warning issued to anybody or any
       special meetings held ---
       A. As I say -----

  Q. -- to criticise people at the store?
       A. I do not know what action was discussed between
       Mr. Pearson and Mr. Fenwick.

  Q. But nothing percolated down to you as First Assistant
       Manager?
       A. I was not aware of any disciplinary action as regards
this individual audit as regards the Manager.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It would be a bit tough on Mr. Fenwick 17
days after he took on the job, would it not?

MR. MORRIS: Yes. You were the most senior person who had been
