I do not remember which street she came from. It could be
Markham Square. I do not recall that.

  Q. You did not go around to check afterwards?
       A. I must have done so, but I do not remember where it
       was.

  Q. In paragraph (4) of your statement you have said that you
were aware that the Smith Street Residents Association had
complained about the street environment/index.html">litter which they
       believed originated from McDonald's customers?
       A. Right.

  Q. In particular, there were complaints in late 1991. Can you
just tell us about those complaints?
       A. I think when people see cartons or anything like that
on a street they assume that -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, just pause a moment. The question was
that you said there were complaints in late 1991. You have
been asked to tell us about the complaints, which must mean
tell us what you remember about the actual complaints which
       were made in late 1991?
       A. Right, that was -----

  Q. Not what might happen or does happen; what did happen.
       A. Right, my Lord. Miss Linda Wells, she phoned me up,
and she suggested to me that there was a problem of environment/index.html">litter
in Smith Street. So, I made an appointment and I visited
her with my Manager, Miss Robertson, Lindy Robertson, to
       have a meeting with her.

MS. STEEL: Was that just after one complaint that you made an
       appointment to see her?
       A. Yes, at the moment she phoned me up, I requested her to
give me the first possible time slot which she had. She
did it and I made a couple of promises which I fulfilled
right away, and those are highlighted in that letter to,
       I think, Paul Preston.

  Q. Did you get complaints about environment/index.html">litter at other stores that
       you have worked at?
       A. McDonald's Barnet, no complaint whatsoever; Golders
Green, I do not recall anybody complaining about in Golders
Green; Stephenson Place, it was just where the slope is,
where the shopping centre is, so there are not any
residents around; in High Street in Birmingham, there was
       no complaint which I recall.

  Q. So it is just the Kings Road that you remember there being
       complaints at?
       A. Yes, I do, but there might be one or two complaints but
it is so far back that I do not really remember it.

  Q. Was the complaint by Linda Wells the first complaint that
       you had received?
       A. For Smith Street, yes.

  Q. You said in your statement that, in particular, there were
complaints in late 1991. Are you now wanting to change
