Day 189 - 20 Nov 95 - Page 30

       A. Yes. I came into work one day and the Manager
said: "You have been drinking", and I said: "Yes, I had
a bottle of Carlsberg"; and I was suspended then after that
for having -- they said I was drunk, but I was not. I just
had one drink before I came into work.

  Q. One drink?
       A. Yes, just one, that was all.

  Q. Do you know how big the bottle was?
       A. Whatever the standard size is. I do not know. A third
of a pint, or something. I do not know -- whatever.

  Q. Third of a pint?
       A. No, I do not know it is. Standard -- what fills a
       glass, whatever that is.

  Q. Like -----
       A. Half, maybe half pint.

  Q. So you were suspended?
       A. Yes. That went to the Labour Court, and then I went
       back to work.

  Q. Sorry, was that the Rights Commission?
       A. Yes, the Rights Commission. Sorry.

  Q. What did they say should happen then?
       A. That I was to go back to work. That was it.

  Q. And McDonald's took you back?
       A. Yes, they did; and then I left shortly afterwards.
I started college then, and I was only working part-time.

  Q. So you were suspended; you had not been sacked, but you had
       been suspended?
       A. No, I was suspended.

  Q. They took you back after the Rights Commissioner's -----
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When you said you left shortly afterwards and
you started college and were working only part-time, do you
mean you left full-time or you left altogether?
       A. I left full-time employment, and I was in college for a
while, as far as I remember, for I think about a few weeks,
and then I left, I left altogether.

  MR. MORRIS: Left McDonald's?
       A. Yes, I left McDonald's then, yes.

  Q. So you did some part-time?
       A. Yes. I went in for, I think, a few weeks part-time.

  Q. Were you aware of what happened to other union members from
       the strike?
       A. Well, yes. I remember a person who -- Anne Casey --
had -- her job as a lobby hostess was dissolved; they took
away the actual position. I know Jimmy Macken was not let
       back.
