4 Q. You see at the top it says: "PRs taking a long time, some
5 late, some green badges for five to six weeks in the
6 summer". Number of pay rises and rates", it says, "very
7 poor". I am not sure if that refers to no pay -- extra pay
8 for unsociable hours. So, complaints -- sorry, before I go
9 on to that, on page 255, the bottom question: "How often
10 are OCLs completed? Not often, not consistent and not many
11 given; have to nag the Managers to do them. Time is
12 grabbed when possible, not planned" -----

16 MS. STEEL: That is at the very bottom of page 255. Then this
17 is the same date, but on page 257 the section on
18 Performance Reviews: "How is the PR system administered;
19 frequency every four months?" Answer: "No, some missed,
20 some are given on time, one eight weeks from start, has had
21 no PR, two done together, therefore one PR missed
22 completely" ------

26 MS. STEEL: Because, sorry, I cannot read it. "Some system in
27 place but not stuck to", I do not know what -- and
28 "Accurate reflection of performance? No, tends to be SP
29 -- tends always to be SP.

34 SP. "....regardless of performance, some rushed."

36 The point is that there are consistent complaints
37 throughout all these rap sessions about performance reviews
38 being behind. Sometimes, there might appear to be some
39 effort to address it, but by the next performance review,
40 it is back to the same, being way behind.

42 Do you not recall the Company ever looking into what was
43 going wrong with this and setting up something to deal with
44 these complaints?
45 A. I, personally, do not recall whether the Store Manager
46 on receipt of it, as I say, whether he formed some action
47 plan, but I do not recall what the action plan was or .....

49 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you recall any action plan with regard to
50 improving the performance on performance reviews?

53 Q. I think the answer must be "no". Mr. Henden, if you cannot
54 answer whether you recall, I am to infer you cannot recall,

60 anyone else trying to gee you up on performance reviews?
