Day 005 - 04 Jul 94 - Page 16

1 Q. You would be happy to publish it now, so you must believe
              it is accurate now too?
2 A. I have not read every word in it. I am not sure what
the numbers all relate to. We have changed our buns
3 significantly; we have changed our menu offering
              significantly.
     4
         Q. Leave aside the ingredients. Obviously, they may well
5 have changed. Just one question on something else: When
did McDonald's stop using clock cards?
6 A. Gee whiz! I do not know. It must be -- it has to be
five years ago at least, yes. The human resources could
7 tell you more precisely but it must be something like
              that.
     8
         Q. Could you get volume 6, section A, No. 4A, please?
     9
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is this pink or blue?
    10
MISS STEEL: Pink. Could you tell the court what that document
    11 is?
              A. It says: "McDonald's Nutrition Guide: Our role in a
12 well balanced diet" on the cover.

13 Q. Thank you. Could you just have a look through that
document to yourself and read it to yourself and tell me
14 whether there is any mention in there about heart disease
              and cancer?
15 A. No, there is not.

    16 Q. There is not.
              A. Not that I can see.
    17
         Q. There is nothing in there making clear the links between
18 the diet high in fat, sugar and sodium, low in fibre
vitamins and minerals and ill-health, heart disease and
    19 cancer?
              A. There is a statement that says: "Nutritionists advise
20 we should, in particular, keep an eye on how much fat,
sugar and salt we eat; you should watch your weight also".
    21
         Q. There is nothing specifically about the links between
22 heart disease, cancer of the breast and the bowel?
              A. There is no mention of those words.
    23
         Q. Right. Thank you. This leaflet was available in stores,
    24 was it not?
              A. Yes, I think so. This is dated -- I am sure this one
    25 was.

    26 Q. I think it is July 1985.
              A. First published October 1984, 2nd February 1985,
    27 3rd July 1985 -- three times, three publishings.

28 Q. On the back it says, does it not: "Further information
about good nutrition and McDonald's is available in the
29 booklet 'Good Food, Nutrition and McDonald's'. Please
send for your copy by writing to the public relations
    30 department"?
              A. I am sorry, I cannot find what you are saying.
