Day 032 - 06 Oct 94 - Page 65

  Q. There is one for the girls?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Under what they generally ate, which I think is what you
told us that sentence meant, do you remember?
       A. Yes.

  Q. I think you told his Lordship earlier that one must not
take "the most eggs, other meat products, chocolate and
colas" as being a description of what they ate at their
       self-selected meal at lunch time?
       A. That would be my understanding of that statement.

  Q. The same must apply to the girls, must it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So there is no assertion there that the girls are stuffing
themselves with burgers at their school lunch times?
       A. Only totally.

  Q. What?
       A. Only totally, that is to say, only overall diet, not
       necessarily at lunch time.

  Q. That comes after eggs, bacon, poultry and sausages?
       A. It does.

  Q. If it is in order of priority which it may not be.
       A. I think it is in order down the food list.

  Q. It may be. Let us turn to table 50 for the boys, and we
find, if you turn to page 181, under "cafe", we have to
include, do we not, all kinds of non-school or non-home or
non-packed lunch outlets for lunch, do we not?
       A. They refer to -- that generally covers at cafes,
take-away and fast food outlets, according to the
       paragraph.

  Q. So the category "cafe" in the table must include cafes,
fast food outlets, Chinese take-aways, goodness knows
       what, must it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Sweet shop on the corner or whatever?
       A. Yes. Well, I do not know about sweet shops on the
corner. I think they talk about when they eat a meal as
       opposed to no meal.

  Q. What I need your help with is this, if you can help us,
you are the expert after all, under "cafe" at the heading
of the table one sees the number of children in each
category. We note that for the boys there are 68 who fall
under "cafe". That appears in the text. Do you have that
       on page 179?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What I fail, I am afraid, to understand is this, what the
figures mean which appear in the column under "cafe".
       A. Yes, I would like to know too.
