Day 253 - 21 May 96 - Page 40

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think it would be sensible in so far as
they can be dealt with. What are the other legal matters?

MR. MORRIS: There is the Brazilian proposed amendment.

MR. RAMPTON: I have said what I had to say about that this
       morning.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Give Mr. Rampton a chance to think about
       that.

MR. MORRIS: Well, I suppose so.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is not necessary. There are two elements.
There is the question of amendment at all, and the actual
form of it. So it is only reasonable that there is a bit
of time to think about it.

MR. MORRIS: Yes, I suppose it is not urgent in terms of there
       is no witness due.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have of given notice of it, so from your
point of view the passage of time from today or yesterday,
whenever you hand it in, is not going to work against you.

  MR. MORRIS: No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you get leave.

MR. MORRIS: Right. I wanted to explain about what has happened
in the unwaged centre court case, which should take only a
few minutes. Then there is Mr. Nicholson's right to or not
       to confirm.

MR. RAMPTON: That need take no time at all. I have thought
about that, I see a way round it and I do not have to talk
to Mr. Nicholson about anything which might remotely touch
upon the evidence which he has given.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Very well.

MR. MORRIS: I think those were the main things.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What do you want to say about the Haringey
       matter?

MR. MORRIS: Yes. I have had a phone call. I have phoned the
solicitor, and it looks like there may be some settlement
negotiations. I have arranged a meeting at 12 on Thursday.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is it not in court on Thursday?

MR. MORRIS: It looks like the court is going to be suspended.
I am having a meeting on Thursday with the solicitors in
order to sort it out. The reason I raised this is because
I actually had a funeral, believe it or not, to go to on
Friday and I did not bring it up because it was not
relevant to this case. I was hoping to get the case over
with on Thursday in any event, the unwaged centre case. It
looks like now it is not going to take place. The funeral
