Day 307 - 27 Nov 96 - Page 48
he would hand in his submission early tomorrow afternoon,
that he would speak for a while introducing them to me and
I would take Friday, Saturday and Sunday to read them and
resume on Monday morning, and this I expressly said, with
the oral submissions he wants to make to me.

MS. STEEL: I don't know, I would just like to say that in
terms of us being able to read it at the weekend, I work on
Friday and Saturday and Mr. Morris has got his son to look
after, so we will not be able to read that amount of
paperwork.

MR JUSTICE BELL: That is entirely up to you.

MS. STEEL: Well, if I want to starve I have got a choice,
I suppose.

MR. MORRIS: Maybe now is not the time, but we would like to
consider that we have at least, say, Monday and Tuesday off
next week.

MR JUSTICE BELL: No, there is no possibility of that. I want
to get on with Mr. Rampton's submissions. I expressly
said, I am looking for the reference, I can't find it now,
but it is in the -----

MR. RAMPTON: Your Lordship did say it. It is no question.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I specifically asked that the pages of
transcript be copied for the Defendants, I thought, as well
as me, and I certainly got mine.

MS. STEEL: We did not get ours.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It was the last two or three days of one
particular day.

MR. RAMPTON: If your Lordship got yours, the Defendants should
have had theirs too.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: In any event, it does not matter whether the
transcript was copied because I expressly said it.

MR. RAMPTON: I have not read the transcript. I know that
your Lordship said Friday, Saturday, Sunday your Lordship
will read it. Your Lordship will not be able to, I am sure
-- unless you are superhuman, but some judges may be --
absorb all the detail in three days.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is just possible that I may ask Mr. Glenn
to ring everyone on Friday afternoon and say I am not going
to sit on Monday because I need that for reading time as
well, but the plan at the moment is to-----

MR. RAMPTON: I am expecting to be on my feet on Monday
morning, I always have been.

MR. MORRIS: Well, I don't know. I just hope there is never a
trial like this again, that is all I can say.
