Day 086 - 09 Feb 95 - Page 18
Q. So what about changing a plug, is that something that a
staff member can do?
A. My belief is that if you have been trained on the AEC,
or I think there is a course that we have teach electricity
at work; I believe you can change a plug if you have been
on that course.

Q. When did this position come into effect at McDonald's, that
crew members should not change plugs?
A. I do not think a crew member has ever been able to
change a plug in McDonald's.

Q. Because why?
A. Because they have not been trained.

Q. So it would be unsafe for an untrained person to change
plugs?
A. Yes.

Q. So if that happened in stores regularly, would you be
concerned?
A. If an untrained person changed?

Q. Yes.
A. Yes.

Q. What would you do about it if you found out that it was
happening?
A. Stop it.

Q. It does happen, does it not, at McDonald's, and it has
happened quite regularly?
A. No, I would not say it has happened quite regularly.
I have not seen a crew member changing a plug.

Q. If somebody becomes a trainer, is that a responsible
position at McDonald's, someone becomes a trainer of other
staff?
A. You are talking about a crew member becoming a member
of the training squad?

Q. Yes.
A. Yes, it is a more responsible position.

Q. If they go to other stores, is that a recognition of
their -- if you become a part of the training squad, do you
just train people in-store?
A. Not normally within your own restaurant.

Q. If you go to other restaurants, is that a particularly
higher level of responsibility?
A. Not particularly, no. If a new restaurant owned in an
area, a training squad of stores around may go, would go
along and assist the training of the new crew members
there.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I am having terrible difficulty hearing.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, keep your voice up. Make sure you speak
very clearly.
