home at the moment. If it is only in the counterclaim
file, I would like someone just to lend me a copy for the
moment. In any event, Mr. Oakley should have a copy of the
one you are relying on. (Handed).

MR. MORRIS: Did you also approve the background briefing to the
press that went out, the three-page briefing as well that
       went out?
       A. No, I did not.

  Q. Did you see that one?
       A. Mike Love would have approved that.

  Q. On this leaflet that you issued nationally, do you remember
       the issuing of the leaflet?
       A. I do.

  Q. I think it was said in the Defence that 300,000 were
printed -- not in the Defence; Paul Preston said 300,000
were issued. What was going to be done with the leaflets
       when the stores got them?
       A. Well -----

  Q. Were they for display, basically?
       A. They were sent to the restaurants (a) because we had a
lot of concerned staff out there who had heard that this
trial was going on; they did not quite understand what it
was all about and we thought we should set out the main
points of the case. Additional copies were sent to the
restaurants for the staff to hand out to customers who may
have similar concerns about what is this all about.

  Q. That is what I thought. So, 300,000. So would that have
been displayed in the leaflet racks like the other
       leaflets?
       A. I am not certain if it was displayed or not. They
certainly had copies for customers who wanted to know what
       the case was about.

  Q. If you go to point 4 it says: "The leaflet has been
distributed worldwide since 1984". Did you check that fact
       before you approved this leaflet?
       A. Not specifically, no.

  Q. So you do not know if it is true or not, do you?
       A. I am given to understand because, you know, I was not
responsible then, but I was given to understand that this
case originated back to 1984; the leaflets being
distributed in the UK, and we had certainly had comments
from other countries around the world that they too had
seen these leaflets distributed in their country.

  Q. So who told you?
       A. How they got there or who distributed them, I do not
       know.

  Q. Who told you that the leaflet had been distributed
       worldwide since 1984?
       A. Other McDonald's companies.
