Day 207 - 23 Jan 96 - Page 21

  Q. Then on page 229, which is the same date, under "hours and
schedule" -- first there is one under "breaks"
saying: "Saturdays are a problem, often split, never two on
       long shifts", and then ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let me just find that.

MS. STEEL: Sorry -- just under halfway down.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I have that; and the second one?

MS. STEEL: It is three down from there: "Opinion of closes:
too long, not enough crew, too many at weekends"; and then:
"Breaks too early for food and energy." Do you remember
       those complaints?
       A. No, I do not.

  Q. Then on page 232, that is the same date, under "job image",
the second question: "Which aspects of the job do you not
enjoy?", it says: "No crew", and then it says: "No breaks,
poor morale and management attitude." Do you remember
       that?
       A. Sorry, I am trying to find it. What was it, 232?

  Q. Yes; near the top, fourth one down.
       A. Oh, yes. No, I do not.

  Q. Then, on page 255 -- which is actually last year, in
September, I think; 26th September 1995, it says on
page 249 -- on page 255, it says under "hours and
schedule", "breaks": "While shortstaffed, some getting very
late breaks, after six hours or after three-quarters of an
hour." I am not sure what the last comment is. There are
more complaints about breaks there. Do you remember them?
       A. No, I do not.

  Q. There have been consistent complaints over the years by
crew about breaks, have there not, and the Company has not
       taken any notice of them?
       A. Well, if you look at a previous rap session to that, on
24th February 1995, under "breaks" it says: "Not seen as a
problem at the moment. Breaks occasionally given to them."

  Q. So, there was were still complaints in February 1995; it is
just not quite as bad as it has been?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Which page?
       A. Page 241.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let me look those up.

MS. STEEL: But the complaints had not gone away during that
period, and they came back again in greater force only six
months later at the next rap session?
       A. There are complaints in the rap session about breaks,
yes. If I can ascertain the number -----

  Q. The number of what, sorry?
       A. The number of complaints. It may have been spoken by
