Day 185 - 07 Nov 95 - Page 63

Q. You said that she has lied to you her whole life. You seem
to have some kind of view of her as a compulsive liar?
A. Well, we were friends for three, four years before this
thing even started, but she used to lie about anything,
like even little petty things she would lie about, just to
get her way.

Q. Right. But you were still friends, were you?
A. I was still friends with her, yes.

Q. I was just wondering why it was that you said it was fine
for her to come round your house when you had such a low
opinion of whatever she said?
A. Because she had the union organizer with her; it was
not just her.

Q. So you were interested in listening to what the union
organizer had to say?
A. I wanted to hear what it was all about.

Q. Right. You were interested to hear what it was all about,
and when you heard what it was all about, you were
impressed by the potential benefits and you voluntarily
signed the union card?
A. No. The only thing I was impressed about was full-time
hours. I said to her: "Give me a day to think about it.
I will get back to you." They did not like my answer.
I had to go to work. So the only reason, well, one reason
for signing was to get them off my back so I could get to
work and not be late. They refused to leave my house.

Q. Are you saying they physically stood in your way and said:
"We are not going until you sign the card"?
A. They would not get up off the table. I am not going to
physically pick them up. I am not that big, I am not that
strong. I cannot lift somebody off out of a chair and
throw them out the front door.

Q. That is not true, is it? You voluntarily signed the card?
A. No, I did not.

Q. You were not worried about being late for work because this
meeting took place at 9 o'clock in the morning, not at
9.30?
A. It still did not matter; I had to get to work to get
changed. I left my house, I left my house at about --
I got to work having five minutes to spare.

Q. But the meeting took place at 9 o'clock, did it not?
A. Yes, it was 9 o'clock, not 9.30, but it still does not
matter because they would not leave. They kept repeating
everything over and over again. I said: "Give me a day to
think about it". They said: "Well, here are the benefits
you get" and they would not leave.

Q. So why did you put 9.30 in your statement when it was
9 o'clock this meeting took place?
A. It was a mistake.
