Day 277 - 10 Jul 96 - Page 53
Q. Yes, and he was already in the group when you, saving your
choice of language, you became interested in it was he?
A. From what he had said he had been to meetings in the
past, yes.

Q. Now, I want to go please to the notes of 18th January 1990,
which start with Mr. Clare's notes at page 60. The page I
want, Miss Steel is, page 62. Well, there are three
pages. At the top right hand corner is probably the
easiest way of doing it. 9 in the book where there is the
end. We don't need to go back. There at the top of the
page, there is the end of a bit about you isn't there?
A. Well, there is an end of a bit that he has written that
is supposed to be about me, but to be quite honest it is
completely inaccurate so I would not say it is about me.

Q. And the last part of it says, "She admitted to helping with
all anti-McDonald's information leaflets and their
distribution", and you said when you were giving evidence
yourself in chief, "I certainly did not" -- these are not
your exact words this is what I wrote down at the time --
"I certainly did not admit this, I would not have said
that"?
A. Yes.

Q. Why not, why would you not have said that?
A. Because I did not help with all antiMcinformation and
leaflets.

Q. And their distribution?
A. No.

Q. Why not?
A. Why not?

Q. Yes, why did you not?
A. Because I wasn't involved in the group at the time, it
was not a particular interest of mine. That is it really.

Q. But I am finding this difficult, Miss Steel. Can I go back
over what you told us at the very beginning, I think, of
your evidence, by the time you first came into contact with
this group?
A. Yes.

Q. You had found an interest in nutrition?
A. It was when I was about 15 or 16 I started reading
books about nutrition.

Q. You had found an interest in the welfare of an animals to
the extent that you had become a vegan?
A. Yes.

Q. You had found an interest in the world's ecology, in
particular its forests and its rain forests?
A. In ecological, yes, in environmental matters, yes.

Q. And you had found an interest, I think you told us, in
employment conditions at what you would see at the lower
end of the scale; is that right?
