Day 150 - 07 Jul 95 - Page 54

  Q. Then what were your responsibilities while you were in the
       office in Birmingham?
       A. As I mentioned earlier, some of those requirements as a
Supervisor were to carry out Human Resources audits,
security audits. Then I would then bring those into the
office. We may well have a monthly supervisors' meeting
with my boss, the Senior Supervisor, and we would generally
bring everything in at one go.

Because I was so remote from the office, it meant that
I needed to be sort of prepared going up there maybe only
once or twice in a month, to be sort of efficient and use
my time productively. So, I generally bring those sorts of
audits up, completion of monthly statistical reports for
month end, financial records and the like.

  Q. So did you go to the office in Birmingham every day or
       not?
       A. No, oh, no. I probably only went a couple of times
during the month. Generally, that would be probably in the
first week of the month because then the financial reports
in the previous month would be out, and I could pick those
up. But again they would post those out to me anyway. So
I generally sort of worked in the Colchester area.

  Q. So for the rest of the week when you were not in the
Colchester and the Clacton stores, where would you be
       working?
       A. Nowhere in terms of a couple of days in Colchester, two
or three, and maybe a couple in Clacton on a general
working week, that is five and two off. Interdispersed
between those days there may well be training days that
I may have held with Assistant Managers or trainee
managers; some meetings that may have been called by Head
Office either in London or in Birmingham. But, in general,
my working week was spent in Colchester and Clacton because
I did only have the two restaurants.

  Q. I think previously you said two or three days in Colchester
and one in Clacton. So, presumably, for roughly one day a
week you were either in Birmingham or at the Head Office in
       London?
       A. Yes, I would say, yes, fair, but the day being or
through the week was never a consistent week.
Interdispersed between those sort of general two or three
days or one in Clacton, there may well have been training
days in a specific restaurant. But I would definitely put
two or three days in Colchester specifically for the
Colchester restaurant, rather than just using the
restaurant as a base for training managers or for equipment
classes. Because again we are away from the Birmingham
office, very much -- a lot of my time was spent doing
training classes and actually in the restaurants rather
than taking people to the office, which I think some of my
colleagues nearer to the office in Birmingham would have
done so and used the facilities there.

  Q. That was training of managers?
       A. Training of managers, primarily, yes.
