Day 077 - 25 Jan 95 - Page 69
printed in red, says: "Over charged on invoice dated 20th
June 1983, £210.67" -- must be pence.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I thought there may have been more of a story
in these invoices than there was. Really all I want to
know, if they run in chronological order well and good.

MR. RAMPTON: They do. Can I help your Lordship.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: At the moment they seem to go from things
which may have happened at about middle of June to things
which may have happened at about the middle of July of the
following year.

MR. RAMPTON: That is right, my Lord. Can I tell your Lordship
how it works out with the originals?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: Page 9 is the last document relating to the first
batch, the June batch. It is a total of the previous five
documents which are delivery notes, all of which are dated
20th June 1983. The first document relating to the second
batch which is dated 14th September 1983 -- Mr. Walker, it
may be a good thing if you follow me through because we may
need your help in due course -- I am on page 10, my Lord,
that is the first document relating to the second batch.
There are only two documents relating to the second batch,
the second of which is largely illegible. The reason for
that is that it was typed in red, that is pages 10 and 11.
I put little yellow flags on the side and I called them
A, B, C, D and E. The first document relating to the third
consignment which is dated 11th January 1984, that is at
page 12 and it appears to relate to an amount in weight of
52,136 pounds. There are, and anybody what wants to spend
time overnight mucking around with the figures is welcome
to do so, five of those documents for the January 1984
consignment. They stop at page 16 is the last one, which
is a handwritten note saying "Weddel re Balance Sheets,
will invoice 52,136" and 229 underneath it.

The first document relating to the fourth batch is on page
17 and is dated 30th April 1984 and relates to an amount of
30,864 pounds. It is the only document we have got
relating to that consignment. The first document relating
to the fifth batch is on page 18 and it is a single
document, there are no others, and it is dated 24th July
1984 and it relates to an amount of 42,054 pounds. Have
you followed that through? I expect you know them by heart
anyway?
A. Yes, sir.

Q. Were those first four consignments balance sheet beef from
Brazil?
A. Yes.

Q. Did the fifth consignment also came from Brazil?
A. It came from Brazil.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Keep your voice up.
