Day 127 - 23 May 95 - Page 30
how to replace spare parts which are not included on the
attached list, but I would emphasise that this level of
training is" -- and now we get underlining -- "only
intended to help with pre-staff general knowledge of
electrical equipment, nothing more. Should you have any
queries, do please give me a ring."

My question about that is, and the next one which is also
on page 775, addressed to licensees as well as store
managers in the northern region: what is the licensee
supposed to with this? I mean, can he just put it in the
bin and forget about it?
A. Sorry, I do not quite understand.

Q. What does the Company expect the licensees will do on
receipt of a document like that?
A. Well, the Company would, again, expect the licensees to
follow the Company line in terms of those people they would
allow to work on electrical equipment.

Q. Then on page 776, again from Frank Frost, 6th June 1992:

"Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, Audit. An audit is
to be carried out on every restaurant to assess whether or
not the necessary action detailed below and as pressed over
the last 12 months has been carried out to ensure we comply
with the recently introduced Electricity at Work
Regulations."

Third paragraph, he tells you where to start in the second
paragraph, and then he says:

"Should a restaurant fail an audit, then they will have
14 days to complete all outstanding work highlighted."

Mrs. Barnes, the question I ask you is: was the actual
exercise of an audit a legal requirement in itself?
A. No. It was something that we wanted to do to make sure
that the procedures were being followed with regard to the
equipment service history file.

Q. Now, between that document and the next one at 779 -- which
I will ask you to look at in a moment, whose date is 7th
September, 1992 -- am I right that there was an incident in
the Midlands where a girl, whose second name -- I am afraid
I cannot remember her first name -- was Harborne, received
quite a serious electric shock?
A. The restaurant was called Harborne.

Q. Sorry. Not the girl?
A. No.

Q. But it was one of the female crew members, I think, was it
not?
A. Yes. One of crew received an electric shock from a
filtering machine.

Q. From a filtering machine?
A. Yes.
