Day 185 - 07 Nov 95 - Page 33
A. No. I wanted to know what I could -----

Q. "....for my loyalty to the Manager"?
A. No. I wanted to know that I could do to improve myself
to be able to get a promotion. I wanted to know what
qualifications I needed to -- not a Manager, but a crew
trainer.

Q. The Manager Cam, I put to you -----
A. Cam is the owner.

Q. Sorry, the owner. Cam the owner -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: When you said Manager earlier, did you mean
owner?

MR. MORRIS: I meant Cam, yes. Sorry.

THE WITNESS: Are you talking to me or are you talking to him?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. Mr. Morris, a few moments ago, suggested
that you help the Manager to organise the meeting as an
anti-union meeting, and by "Manager" he meant
Mr. Ballantyne, the owner.
A. OK.

Q. Did you understand that that is what he was putting?
A. Well, I did not help no Manager and I did not help Cam,
either.

MR. MORRIS: The reason, is it not, that Cam talked about
promotions is because he wanted to split the loyalty of the
people that had signed the union cards and wanted to reward
those that were willing to be loyal McDonald's anti-union
people with the possibility of being promoted?
A. No, that is not true. The only reason he talked about
promotions was because I had brought it up. I had asked
him for my own personal benefits. That is all. I am sure
if anybody else was there and they wanted to get a
promotion, they would have asked either before or later or
whatever in the meeting.

Q. One final question on this meeting. What were the problems
which Cam said he could rectify that you noted down there,
"rectify problems"?
A. He said that if anybody had any problems or if they
wanted to rectify any problems, he had an open door policy,
and just wanted to make us aware of that if we had never
heard of that before.

Q. He did not identify any of these problems, then?
A. No, he did not. He did not identify any specific
problems.

MS. STEEL: Just to go on to the actual Labour Board hearings,
Mr. Pugsley was representing you; yes?
A. Yes.

Q. Did he call any witnesses?
A. I am not sure.
