Q. Where are the records kept from that computerised system of
what actual -- Fred worked from 8.00 till 6.00, or
something like that, where would records like that be
stored?
A. They would also be stored in the restaurant for a
period of time. What I could not do is say exactly how
long they are kept for in terms of keeping hard copy
because when you have computers it tends to be different
because you do not have the actual clock cards to work
from, but I do not personally know exactly whether there
are any guidelines about how long those are kept for.

Q. But they would be kept on disk, would they?
A. I believe so but again I do not have the specific
direct knowledge about that.

Q. When you change from the clock cards to the computerised
system, I mean, did you keep the five-year recommendation?
A. The five -- no, it would not be to keep them for five
years for the computer reports, no.

Q. But it would be quite easy to keep the computerised reports
on disk, would it not? It would not take up much storage
space?
A. It might be; I do not feel qualified to answer that. I
think that is an Information Services type question I do
not feel qualified to answer.

Q. So you do not have any recommendation on that then?
A. Not about where the hard copy is kept and things like
that, no.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think it is a question of whether you know;
far from being a computer expert, I do know that what was
put in went on to the hard disk. It could then also be
transferred to a floppy disk while remaining on the hard
disk and the floppy can be wiped clean and the information
can be removed from the hard disk to make room ---
A. Yes.

Q. -- for other information if you are reaching the capacity
of the computer, or to help the computer to work more
quickly. As I understand it, most of them operate more
slowly the more information they have on. I may be
completely wrong about that but, if I am, I say it so I can
be disabused if it becomes relevant. Do you actually know
whether there was any procedure and, if so, what it was,
with regard to any transferring to floppies, keeping of
floppies, or taking information off the hard disk after a
period of time or anything of that kind?
A. I do not know of any guidelines. One thing that I am
sure of is that it would not have been done at restaurant
level. That would be something that would be done
centrally, I believe, if it is done. I really do not know.

MS. STEEL: So all the records on hours worked, on the
particular hours worked, go straight through the system up
to the Head Office or Regional Office?
A. Yes, in principle. I mean, I cannot answer for exactly
