Day 195 - 04 Dec 95 - Page 44

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, that is right, "I knew of cases" in the
plural. (To the witness): Any other cases that you
actually witnessed yourself of people working 26 hours in a
       row?
       A. Oh, yes. I have had -- I remember cases other than
       that happening.

  Q. Tell us.
       A. There were similar sort of cases on the night shift and
working through the night and working again in the morning
       shift.

  Q. You were there all the time?
       A. I was not there all of the time, no. I mean, even in
this case I was not there all the time but .....

  Q. Page 7, please, Mr. Alimi, you write or somebody has
written for you, but you aver the truth of this statement:
"Management would also cut", this is at the top of the
page, the second line, "The number of scheduled work hours
of anyone who refused to do the extra hours on a late shift
etc. This was done so that eventually the person could not
survive on the money, that he/she was getting from the job
and would have to leave. I am positive that this technique
was used directly for that purpose - crew members were
told" -- please tell us what is the basis or ground for
       what you say there.
       A. Well, I was frequently told by whoever was drawing up
this schedule, either Simon Gibney or Steve Harney, that
when they draw up this schedule they are told or instructed
by higher up Managers to put pressure on those people who
refuse to comply with the management instructions,
specially night closes. If they refuse to do closes after
12 o'clock, they would have been -- their hours would have
       been cut.

  Q. They told you that?
       A. Oh, yes. I was not in any position myself to find
out. I mean, unless other people -- I mean, I was not in
management position to know that. I did not take part in
the meetings, so I would have been told by somebody else.

  Q. Tell me, when did you become a Trainee Manager?
       A. I never became -----

  Q. Sorry, a training squad?
       A. Training squad. I do not exactly know the date, but
I believe it was something like six months before I left
       McDonald's.

  Q. At the bottom of page 7: "If late shift work would involve
a female employee under", going over to the top of page 8,
"The age 18 carrying on past 10 o'clock, or a male
employee under the age of 18 carrying on past 12 o'clock,
they would be asked if they wanted to work past these
hours", and so on. You say it happened a few times and
       that they agreed.
       A. Yes.
