Day 204 - 15 Jan 96 - Page 15

  Q. What, you mean by Managers shouting at them or something
       like that?
       A. By employees shouting at each other. That is one of
       the biggest problems.

  Q. The supervisors did not advise you to give an across the
board pay rise or anything like that to keep the crew on?
       A. We had various pay rises in my time at McDonald's at
       the -----

  Q. An annual increase?
       A. Company pay rises, yes, but it never affected the
overall 5/10 pences that crew members received on their
       performance reviews.

  Q. There was a faulty probe at the store, is that right, that
was used for doing calibrations? It is referred to on the
       next page.
       A. Yes, there was a faulty probe, according to the PR,
       yes.

  Q. Do you remember how long that was a problem?
       A. No. I cannot recall the incident; I cannot actually
recall the probe being faulty. But it would have been
sorted out very quickly, i.e. a week. I was not one to
       leave things broken or unattended.

  Q. Then it goes on to cleanliness and says that this is the
       store's weak point?
       A. Yes.

  Q. "Make sure the matrix is not constricted at key points in
the day, particularly the open. The quality of closes is
       poor."

You would have to get the crew to work longer hours or get
more crew in to get the store up to scratch, would you not?
       A. Actually, it states in my PR that I did an excellent
job of the crew levels in Clacton. I was one of very few
Managers who actually achieved to get the correct numbers
on the actual payroll for the summer.

  Q. And you were given praise for that, were you?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you remember what year that was?
       A. When I was at Clacton from 88 to 90, I believe.
I cannot recall exactly. Sorry, 89, that is right.

  Q. In any event, you would have needed more crew hours in
order to get the store as clean as the supervisors were
wanting you to have it or asking you to get it?
       A. No.

  Q. You would not?
       A. It was just attention to detail. I was not actually
getting the best out of my Managers at the time. I had
floor Managers, fairly new; I had Second Assistants; I was
a new Manager for four months, and I was just trying to
make it work together as a team. Trying to get the best
