Day 277 - 10 Jul 96 - Page 51

the report concerning the Endsleigh Street meeting on 26th
October starts at the bottom of 25B and carries on C and D?
       A. You want me to read all that?

  Q. Yes. You do not have to read beyond the second paragraph
       on D.
       A. On D?

  Q. Yes. If you would read the little bit at the bottom of B
for Bishop the whole of C and the first two paragraphs on D
       for David.
       A. Yes, it looks like a load of rubbish.

  Q. It does look like a load of rubbish. Why do you say that
you weren't there, or you weren't sure you were there?
       A. Why, because I have never heard Paul say anything like
that and I know that is not his view and it is just full of
opinion and, well, just in my view it is a load of rubbish.

  Q. Can we go on now to the 2nd November 1989? One thing
before I leave that, is it right that Mr. Gravett sometimes
       used the name Atkinson?
       A. I don't remember ever hearing him use that name.

  Q. Did he use the name Alan, Paul Alan?
       A. I don't remember him every using that name. I do
vaguely remember that one time he wrote a letter to a
newspaper or magazine using the name Paul James but--

  Q. Yes. Did Mr. Morris sometimes use the name Harris?
       A. I don't know.

  Q. Or the name Harrison?
       A. I don't know. Not that I have ever heard him use.

  Q. You don't remember. Right, that's okay. Can we go to 2nd
November 1989? This is Mr. Pocklington's note and there is
only one little bit I want to ask you about in this. It is
on the second page, page 23 in my file, second paragraph.
It says, "Client company was mentioned occasionally in
conversation but no reference was made to further specific
action to be taken. It was said that the group would
probably go into a bit of a lull now after the fervour of
       the anti-McDonald's fayre."

Miss Steel, Mr. Pocklington, I think you accepted as
       being broadly speaking reasonably accurate?
       A. Yes, fairly accurate in what he has got down, but I did
say that bearing in mind that the meetings went on for a
couple of hours there is a lot that he has not got down, so
it makes it appear as though McDonald's is being discussed
for a greater time, or has greater prominence, than in
       reality it did.

  Q. It gives a disproportionate prominence to the topic of
McDonald's, which I am quite willing to accept, Miss
Steel. But I ask you about this paragraph, he has got it
absolutely spot on has he not?
       A. What? Well, it is quite possible.
