Day 079 - 27 Jan 95 - Page 42
tipped into the blenders and it is starts blending, that is
under observation, it can be rejected there if it is seen
as it is turning. If it went through the grinding plate,
there is a centrifuge plate on the back of the grinding
plate, if there was any foreign body it would reject it
there. If it was metal, as soon as it went down the
forming line, it would be rejected. There are umpteen ways
of eliminating it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think we are getting a bit away from the
mainstream.

MR. MORRIS: Not strictly, with respect, because in our
pleadings we have a number of foreign body -----

MR. RAMPTON: Allegations.

MR. MORRIS: Allegations.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is quite right, but all I am saying is
he has given his explanation of why he thinks it is pretty
safe. You are going to make some allegations about foreign
bodies which have been found there, and then you are going
to ask me to draw conclusions about that. What I am
wondering is whether, having understood what the system is,
it is productive to go on asking questions: "Well, might
this happen? Might that happen?" Do you see? That is my
point.

MR. MORRIS: Are there any ways on top of what you have said
where a foreign body may be detected? Metal detectors,
observation ---

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Centrifuge.

MR. MORRIS: -- centrifuge; are they the methods?
A. Yes.

Q. You talked about meat arriving at over four degrees
Centigrade or Celsius, and that may be caused by the truck
refrigeration, is that a possibility?
A. It is a possibility.

Q. Are they your trucks or the suppliers' trucks?
A. No, the suppliers' trucks.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: They have all got the needle and it is
probably more sophisticated than that -----
A. Cambridge recorder, yes, sir. It is a pen needle that
moves around on a chart.

Q. So you can see how the temperature has gone?
A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Do you know much about the refrigeration systems in
the trucks?
A. No.

Q. Has that ever been something that McKey's have taken
much -----
