     1
         MR. RAMPTON: 645, V.
     2
MR. MORRIS: What date is this document?
     3
MR. RAMPTON: It is 1990, McDonald's Packaging and Foods. You
4 can see the date from the last page which is 630,
              copyright 1990, McDonald's Corporation.
     5
MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is printed on recycled paper!
     6
MR. RAMPTON: I would like you to look at the third paragraph,
     7 please, Mr. Langert?
              A. Yes.
     8
         Q. In this page 640. "In 1988, for example, McDonald's used
9 63.6 million pounds of recycled paper, a number that will
increase substantially with the coming use of recycled
10 paper in he production of nearly 500 million happy-meal
packages of two billion tray liners." Do we see them
11 graphically illustrated at the bottom of the page? Is
              that what those are?
    12 A. Yes.

13 Q. Have you done some calculations converting 63.6 million
              pounds into US tonnes?
    14 A. Yes.

15 Q. That is, what, it is 2,000 pounds per tonne, is it? Can
you tell us, roughly speaking, how many tonnes?
    16 A. I think roughly 31,000 tonnes.

    17 Q. Expressed as a percentage of 162,877, what is 31,000?
              A. I believe that to be about 19 per cent.
    18
         Q. About 19 per cent. If Mr. Kouchoukos' figures for the
19 total paper in that year were accurate, that is to say,
147,173, the percentage would be higher still, would it
    20 not?
              A. I believe so.
    21
MR. MORRIS: Does that include corrugated shipping?
    22 A. No.

    23 Q. Documents, paper?
              A. No.
    24
MR. JUSTICE BELL: This is all consumer packaging?
    25 A. Yes.

26 MR. RAMPTON: If your calculations are correct, and we must
resolve the conflict in due course, we are not looking at
27 7 per cent for 1988, but something like 19 per cent?
              A. Yes.
    28
         Q. Do you know whether or not the figure would be similar for
    29 1989?
              A. I think it would be similar but progressively more.
30 As you can see here, we were adding, happy meals were
becoming a bigger part of McDonald's business and we are
