Day 123 - 09 May 95 - Page 49

MR. MORRIS: Have you heard about hyperactivity in children?
       A. Yes, I have heard the term, yes.

  Q. Do you know about a million children said to be on a
special anti-hyperactivity drug in the United States called
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder -- that is not the
drug, they are suffering from that. Sorry, the drug is
Ritalin. Have you heard anything about that; are you aware
       of that?
       A. I have heard very little about it. I am not familiar
with the article that you are quoting from.

  Q. But are you aware that there is a substantial number of
children in America, whether it is a million, half million,
or two million, or something, that do suffer from diagnosed
       hyperactivity disorders?
       A. ADD, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What does ADD stand for?
       A. Attention Deficit Disorder.

MR. MORRIS: Apparently, according to this, it is either called
Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit
       Hyperactivity Disorder, yes?
       A. Two different terms. I am familiar with ADD.
       Attention Deficit Disorder.

  Q. If we just move on from diet. On that last subject, are
you aware there are concerns that hyperactivity may be
related to what children are eating?
       A. I do not consider myself an expert on the subject.
I recall perusing some articles on the subject, but I am
not in a position to say that it is, you know, that I can
say it is related to consumption of certain foods.

  Q. But you can say that there are concerns about that, whether
they are right or wrong, yes?
       A. Yes, but I do not recall reading anything conclusive
that has made the connection between certain, consumption
of concern food and hyperkinetic activity. I think sugar
is the only thing that, reflecting on it, that I have heard
that causes that, consumption of sugar.

  Q. If we can just move on to something else. I think when you
were here before -- I have not got the references with
me -- you mentioned about how the company keeps accident
       statistics employee, accident statistics?
       A. I do not think the company keeps -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You said you thought there were insurance
       companies?
       A. The insurance companies, independent insurance
       companies would have statistics.

MR. MORRIS: On behalf of McDonald's?
       A. They would keep them for their records, for whatever
use they, I guess, would have in deciding what future
       premiums would be.
