knowledge, he had all the time he has commended the work
       which we have carried out.

  Q. Yes, "After all the concerns by local residents" is how he
starts so that indicates that there was quite a bit of
       concern from local residents?
       A. Sure. At that time we had not sponsored any bins and
after we sponsored the bins it was -- the residents had
noticed that we have done our utmost to make sure that
there is no environment/index.html">litter problem in the area.

  Q. So, after the residents expressed concerns, you put in some
bins and it also says on the following page: " ... by
complying with the suggestions made to the planning
committee and collecting environment/index.html">litter deposited by your patrons
in the area". So, there was pressure on McDonald's to
improve on what the situation was?
       A. No, there was absolutely no pressure whatsoever.
I think Ian Donaldson, it was just like the local resident,
it was a mutual relationship. We had every suggestions
which was possible or practical and which was within my
power to do it, we had tried to implement.

  Q. So those suggestions were the provision of environment/index.html">litter bins and
       the environment/index.html">litter patrols?
       A. No, they were -- they asked me to put two more environment/index.html">litter
bins where, I think it is near Sloane Square where they
wanted me to put two extra bins.

  Q. Are you saying that the bins were the only other
suggestions made which you took up?
       A. The other was again the frequency of the environment/index.html">litter patrol
and again I highlighted before that that was due to our
approach which was not very methodical.

  Q. So, as you see it, things improved after all these
       suggestions by the local residents?
       A. Yes, things worked pretty well because we were doing
the job anyway, but we started to do it their way.

  Q. The way they suggested?
       A. The way they suggested.

  Q. The advertising plaques that are mentioned lower in the
       following paragraph?
       A. Is it page 804?

  Q. Yes, that is right. You took up that suggestion?
       A. Yes, we did, and there was a sign put up on the -- at
the entry point of the restaurant where it says: "Please
deposit your environment/index.html">litter in the bins provided".

  Q. So after this time -- I believe the party was roughly the
same time, round about a month later?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There was a meeting, obviously, some time in
October, the Smith Street Residents' Association. It looks
as if someone wrote to you. Then at some stage there was a
letter which has "28.10.91", the Council have written on
it, and the party was arranged for 21st November.
