Day 138 - 20 Jun 95 - Page 12

       A. As far back as I know. As I can recall, there has
always been harmonious relations with the union there to my
knowledge. I was just in Sweden about -----

  Q. OK. As far as you know, for as long as you can remember?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Panama?
       A. That would go back to the mid 70s.

  Q. Denmark?
       A. Denmark would go back, I believe, about six or seven
       years.

  Q. Germany?
       A. Germany would go back to that labour agreement that
       I mentioned.

  Q. We have some evidence about that somewhere.
       A. I believe that is about six or seven years.

  Q. Argentina?
       A. Argentina would be when we went into that country.
I think it is probably 12 years ago, something like that.

  Q. Australia, you said some market in Australia?
       A. There is a market in Australia. That would go back
       eight years or so.

  Q. Iceland?
       A. Iceland, we opened in Iceland about two years ago, and
       that would be the time.

  Q. You said some parts of France?
       A. There are works councils in France.

  Q. Works councils?
       A. Some of them have unions, some do not have unions.
Again I do not directly handle that.

  Q. Do you handle Italy or Spain?
       A. I have been involved with Spain, yes. There are
agreements in Spain, there are agreements with our
employees, and they have existed since, I want to say 1980,
       somewhere in that time period.

  Q. Mr. Stein, I think for present purposes that will do.
Thank you. Since we have got this out, I will finish it
off: "Trained to sweat", do you see that?
       A. Yes, I do.

  Q. "It is obvious that all large chain stores and junk food
giants depend for their fat profits on the labour of young
people. McDonald's is no exception. Three quarters of its
workforce are under 21" -- do not worry about that; you
gave us the figures yesterday, 19 below and 20 above
categories. "The production line system deskills the work
itself. Anybody can grill a hamburger and cleaning toilets
or smiling at customers needs no training."
