Day 263 - 14 Jun 96 - Page 67

MR. MORRIS: If he was listening to him, it could be a public
       meeting.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Whether he is bothering to concentrate or
not, it cannot possibly be a useful comparison with a
meeting you are sent to observe on.

  MR. MORRIS: OK.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It just cannot, sensibly, be the same kind of
       experience.

MR. MORRIS: If I was to ask you about Mr. Pocklington's
evidence, would you be able to repeat anything he said?
       A. No, I do not think I would.

  Q. Have you got recall of what a speaker says, photographic
       recall?
       A. I was not concentrating. I was thinking about other
       things, I have to say.

  Q. You are trying to tell the court that if you look under the
letters section in your note, in your report -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let us find where it is. Page 112.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry. It would be good to keep it open.
       A. Right.

  Q. You are trying to tell the court that you remembered the
name and address of the poll tax rioters support group, how
many people were arrested, and then the name of War
Resisters International, who the letter was from and to,
invitation from Prisoners of Conscience in Iraq, to speak
at the House of Commons on a specific date; you remember
the date; group being invited to participate in the East
London Green Festival on Saturday, 21st April 1990; Jane,
incidentally, had reported she had run a stall there on the
day; you remembered that date; you remember a date of a
cutting from the Daily Express and the exact wording of the
complaint made by the Finnish authorities against
McDonald's about exploiting the loneliness of a child, and
the discussion, etcetera; you remembered all that the next
day or that night entirely from memory and not from notes?
       A. Yes.

MS. STEEL: Incidentally, can we just point out, it does say at
the top of the notes: "Our Mr. J. Russell has reported
under the date 27th April 1990 as follows". So your report
would have been dated 27th April; yes?
       A. Yes, it would.

  MR. MORRIS: Have you -----
       A. Excuse me, can I -----

  Q. Are you aware ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He wanted to say something.

THE WITNESS: If I had gone back to the Kings office, it would
