Day 121 - 04 May 95 - Page 38

MS. STEEL: If you had walked in on that when it very first
happened, would you have instructed the employees to stop
       working immediately?
       A. If what I visualise from what she described happened,
yes, I probably would stop them working immediately.

  Q. You are not aware of this incident at all?
       A. No, I do not know where it happened.

  Q. Southgate.
       A. No, not at all.

  Q. Would Head Office be informed of an incident like that?
       A. Mmm.

  Q. It would be?
       A. Mmm.

  Q. Who in Head Office would be informed of an incident like
       that?
       A. Oh, well, ever so many people: Operations, the
Operations Supervisor, the Operations Senior Supervisor,
the Operations Manager, the Construction Department, the
people within the Construction Department that deal with
plumbing -- I take it it is a plumbing fault -- just about
everybody would know about it. They would be the people
who one would expect to take action immediately.

  Q. Would anyone in the Personnel Department be notified about
       it?
       A. I would probably see the report. I do not know whether
there is anything in there that would affect personnel.

  Q. For example, if the staff continued working for 20 minutes
and there was a risk of electrocution, or something like
       that?
       A. Of course that would -- that would alert everybody.

  Q. She worked between July 1986 and June 1987, so that was at
the time you were Head of Personnel?
       A. Yes.

  Q. But you do not remember ---
       A. No.

  Q. -- hearing anything about it?
       A. No. I may have been informed. I may have known about
it, but it is possibly eight years ago. No, I do not
       recollect it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Shall we pause there? We will resume at
       2 o'clock.

                       (Luncheon adjournment)

MR. MORRIS: Just one question on the matter we were touching
upon before lunch -- I cannot remember if I asked you --
you said about sewage, the incident in Southend being the
only incident that you know of?
       A. Yes.
