Day 142 - 26 Jun 95 - Page 37
A. That would vary ---

Q. From state to state?
A. -- from state to state and maybe even municipality to
municipality.

Q. Is there a general age that you are aware of?
A. I would not want to hazard a guess. I have not dealt
with that or generally -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Why do you not just pick an age, regardless
of whether they still have to be at school. I was once
involved in a collision on the road in America only to find
that the driver of the other car was 15. Although it was
in Michigan, he came from one of the southern states where
you could drive legally at the age of 15.
A. That I am aware of, so I am not sure what -----

MR. MORRIS: If I ask a simple question then: Does McDonald's
have any policy on the minimum age at which it will employ
employees in America?
A. There are legal requirements that McDonald's would
fully abide by, whatever the jurisdiction requires.

Q. So you do not have any policies separate from what the law
dictates?
A. That would be the minimum.

Q. On minimum age?
A. What the law dictates is the minimum of what we would
do.

Q. Right, so where there are laws regarding setting minimum
age conditions, McDonald's would comply with those laws,
otherwise you do not have any policies above and beyond
those laws?
A. To me, that would be a minimum standard, and above that
the local areas and the owner/operators may, in fact, have
standards that are higher. We often times have standards
that are much higher than the law. We always regard the
law as absolutely the minimum, and we should, in fact, in
most instances have more than just the minimum.

Q. But you do not have any national policy on minimum age for
employees?
A. Well, the only thing I can think of is under the
federal law in general you cannot employ someone under 14
years of age, so if that is what are you referring to, but
that does not have anything to do with school or school
leavers.

Q. OK, I think we can move on. Yes, we can leave that
document. Thank you. If you go to the abstract --
actually just forget the abstract for the minute. Have you
been to Norway?
A. No.

Q. You have never visited Norway?
A. No. I am searching my memory, but I do not think
I have ever been in Norway. No, I am positive.
