Day 096 - 03 Mar 95 - Page 44

Dr. Gregory checked. We have since being doing work with
       the -----

  Q. Sorry, first, was that AC or DC?
       A. I should be able to give you a straight answer and I am
not an electrician to be able to tell you that, but I guess
that -- I am not going to answer that in case I give the
wrong one, I will be quite honest, but what is obviously
       allowable. I would have ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not be ashamed if you do not know, just
       say you do not know.
       A. Yes.

MS. STEEL: Have you got these documents that you provided last
       time?
       A. Yes, I believe so. What tab do they come under?

  Q. I do not know where they are, to be honest.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think they are right at the back just
       before divider 8.

THE WITNESS: Here we are, yes, thank you.

MS. STEEL: You said that you felt that the impedance, the
figure, that Dr. Gregory was using for that would have been
incorrect because you wet the pigs?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Did you actually speak to Dr. Gregory about that?
       A. Not personally. I did not have any contact.

  Q. So you did not explain to him the system you were using or
       whatever?
       A. No, that was down to our technical team.

  Q. But he saw the whole operation?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So he would have seen the wetting process?
       A. He should have done, yes.

  Q. Did you have anything to do with the creation of these
       charts?
       A. That was done at our factory.

  Q. It was done at your factory?
       A. Yes.

  Q. But did you personally have anything to do with it?
       A. No, that was our technical department and the Meat and
Livestock Commission and also Mr. Broads from Bristol. If
I may, sir, I would just like to explain it has gone a
stage further now, that we have recently, only this week,
have put in equipment that is the first in the world that
will actually measure the impedance of a pig and, if it is
unsatisfactory, the stunners will not operate. It is a
completely new system, so that there is absolutely no risk
at all for the future of wrong stunning.
