Day 260 - 11 Jun 96 - Page 53

       office?
       A. There were letters that arrived every week, yes.

  Q. And, basically, people would help out answering the
       letters?
       A. Yes. I do not know about "great deal".

  Q. It was not unusual for you to be asked to answer a letter?
       A. Yes. That was the only time I was asked to.

  Q. Right. But it would not be unusual, in terms of people
arriving would tend to say, "Why do you not answer this
letter", but you had not, yourself, done it before?
       A. No. Answering the letter only consisted of putting a
leaflet into an envelope; there was no written answer.

  Q. You did not write a cover note?
       A. No.

  Q. You say I asked you to answer this letter. Is that how
I suggested you answer it, or you just made up your own
       mind how to do it?
       A. I asked somebody -- whether it was you specifically or
not, I cannot remember -- how do you answer it, and you
said, or whoever I asked said, "We usually answer these by
       sending them the information leaflet."

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause a minute. Who chose which leaflet
       to put in the envelope?
       A. What I call the information leaflet, your Lordship, was
the standard piece of information about the group in
       general.

  Q. The aims and objectives?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: In the statement on page 3, your first
       statement ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- you have, point 2:

"The fair on 27th October will incorporate the
anti-McDonald's fair. I gained the impression that
David Morris did not seem to place a lot of importance on
the McDonald's company itself, because he stated that 'it
just happened to be McDonald's that got chosen to represent
       the multi-nationals'."
       A. Yes.

  Q. Did that seem to be my general attitude to McDonald's?
       A. I remember you saying that in the beginning of the
campaign it just happened to be McDonald's that was chosen.

  Q. Do you remember me arguing that it should not be called the
       anti-McDonald's fair?
       A. I do recall something of that nature.

  Q. That quote from me that would have been from your report,
       would it not?
