A. There are lines across it, hatched?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Ribbed?
A. Yes, ribbed.

Q. It has got sort of ribbing across it.

MR. RAMPTON: "Ribbed" is the word I was looking for; I am
grateful to your Lordship.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Could I ask you, while we are on noise,
although Mr. Rampton may come to it more specifically, if
you have a captive bolt pistol -- you have heard those in
use, have you?
A. Yes.

Q. What sort of noise do they make?
A. It is a bang, similar to that of a small calibre gun,
I suppose.

Q. What would it compare with, a 4.10 ---
A. No.

A. There will be another animal behind it, yes.

Q. Have you been able to observe whether and, if so, what

Q. Then after the animal has been stunned it falls over, does
it not?
A. Yes.

Q. Does that make a noise?
A. Yes, it will make a noise.

Q. Have you noticed whether or not that the animal waiting has
shown any sign of disturbance at that noise?
A. I have not, no, remembering the animal behind cannot
see the animal in front.

Q. I was going to ask you. What is the door between the
waiting animal and the stunned pen made of?
A. It is a steel door.

Q. How high is it?
A. About four feet high, I should think. It is on a
