Day 267 - 21 Jun 96 - Page 26
in antiMcDonald's activities". So it may be that he kept
bringing up about antiMcDonald's stuff and that gave you
some kind of impression that was the main focus of the
group?
A. Sorry, I have lost the question.

Q. Mr. Gravett was at this meeting. You have got him down as
the main activist in the antiMcDonald's campaign. So would
you accept that it may be that he was bringing up that
McDonald's matters, such as the fair, should be discussed
at this meeting about the group's future, and you took that
as the whole group being still heavily -- | cannot remember
what the phrase you used was -- prominent within the group?
A. If the future of the group was to be discussed a main
topic would have been the antiMcDonald's campaign.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you remember now? You have noted the
next open meeting was discussed and it is common ground,
apparently, that was 25th January, 1990. "A topic had to
be picked", and a little lower down, you have noted "25th
January 1990, McDonald's campaign meeting." Can you
remember just what was said which made you note that or are
you reliant on your note?
A. I am relying on my note, sir. Something would have
been said for me to put that down in that context.

Q. He did not go to the meeting, he cannot remember what was
said. I have to say, I think there is a limited help in
asking "may something have happened", unless witness said,
no, it definitely did not for one reason or another.

MS. STEEL: OK.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If I hear evidence that something did happen
I will take that into account, but as you know, I decide
the case on probabilities, not possibilities. The fact
that evidence of something may have happened is no evidence
that it did.

MS. STEEL: No.

MR. MORRIS: So can I just say that the impression you got from
that meeting that you made notes of was that the group was
going to discuss at the meeting on the 25th January its
involvement in the antiMcDonald's campaign?
A. From looking at the notes, the group was to discuss
the future of the group as a whole and if it was the future
of the group as a whole it would have included McDonald's
campaign, but I cannot recall without--

Q. If the campaign featured in the group?
A. The campaign did feature in the group.

MS. STEEL: Yes. If you go to page 9 of the notes. This is the
same meeting -- or may be it is not, actually. No, sorry.
It is the meeting of 18th January, 1990. You have got a
note here about "There were two letters of relevance, one
from a group in Tasmania, apparently a man has organised a
group of antiMcDonald's and he sent money Greenpeace, lots
of press cuttings of a picket they held last October
