Day 174 - 17 Oct 95 - Page 33

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will not make any decision now. We will
see how we go. In any event, quarter to two.

                        (Luncheon Adjournment)

MR. MORRIS: Just a couple more questions on the strike. Do you
remember a staff meeting being held at Grafton Street
before the strike started? After the strike started at
O'Connell Street, there was a staff meeting at
Grafton Street before Grafton Street was affected by the
       strike?
       A. No, I am sorry, I cannot recollect that.

  Q. You cannot recollect? You cannot recollect something like
I mean, organised by the management, a crew meeting or
something like that, where the issue was discussed about:
       there is a strike on at O'Connell Street, X, Y, Z, and
people being asked to say, you know, like, "Hands up who
wants to actually support the union action at" ------
       A. Yes. No, I am sorry.

  Q. You cannot recall it?
       A. I have no recollection of it. It is a long time ago.

  Q. OK. One further document to look at, which is page 983 of
       the pink -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: XIII B, tab 59.

  MR. MORRIS: Yes. Thank you.

THE WITNESS: I am sorry, what is that page number,
       Mr. Morris?

MR. MORRIS: It is tab 59, and it is -----

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: 983.

  MR. MORRIS: 983.
       A. Yes, I have it.

  Q. It is a memo to all crew members, yes, from you?
       A. Yes, that is correct.

  Q. It is 28th March, 1979; and it encloses a press cutting
about the petition that we looked at yesterday, or the
letter that had been signed by a number of people, yes?
The press cutting at the bottom.
       A. Yes, that is correct. Yes, the cutting that refers to
the petition, I think. Is that your question?

  Q. Yes. In the middle paragraph of that memo by you, it says
something like: "I was very impressed by the petition which
the crew got together and which was widely reported in the
newspapers. See below." It was widely reported in the
       newspapers, then?
       A. Yes, from memory, it was. This would have been an
example of just one newspaper, this press cutting.
