Day 153 - 12 Jul 95 - Page 67
change that plug" or "You go and do that wiring". It would
have been a specific crew member who, if something like
that came along, we would work with to sort of instruct on
that sort of thing.

Q. If you felt they knew how to change a plug?
A. If we knew they knew how to change a plug.

Q. Right. The point is you would not necessarily call in an
engineer if you had something giving off electric shocks
and you felt it could be sorted out by someone changing a
plug in the store?
A. I would say nine times out of 10 we would call out an
engineer. If it was an obvious reason, you know, we could
see the loose wire, or something like that, then obviously
in that case we may well have dealt with it ourselves.

Q. Can you just look at your statement again?
A. Yes.

Q. Again look at the sentence: "Various pieces of equipment
did occasionally give small electric shocks to people"?
A. Yes.

Q. Which pieces of equipment are you referring to and what do
you mean by "occasionally", how frequently?
A. Once every two months maybe. And the equipment,
nothing specific, just with that amount of electrical
equipment in the kitchen, there may have been the odd
electric shock occasionally, minor electric shock.

Q. Right. Over the period from the store opening in 1984 to
1990 ---
A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: 1992, end of 1992.

MS. STEEL: -- there are only three electric shocks registered
in the accident book?
A. Right.

Q. So, obviously, crew were not recording them when they were
happening unless they had some severe effect?
A. I would have expected there to be a few more than
that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to go on for a few more minutes,
or would you like to adjourn now?

MS. STEEL: There was one thing I was looking for which was
about an accident.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just take a seat and find it, deal with that
and then we will break off until the morning.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I have something to say about
scheduling.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.
