Day 173 - 16 Oct 95 - Page 47

       A. I cannot say that. He certainly would appear to have
put a complaint forward on his own behalf.

  Q. Then there is a problem with breaks at number 6: early
morning people getting breaks too early and their refusing
to take them. Do you recall that problem?
       A. Not specifically, no.

  Q. "Martin indicated he would look at correcting this."
       A. Yes.

  Q. So you would accept there was a problem?
       A. I would accept that there was a problem with -----

  Q. With people being asked to take their breaks too early?
       A. Yes, if that was the case. I do not know the
circumstances of the request, whether it was half an hour
after they started or two hours, for example. But if it
was the case of them having to take a break too quickly
after they started in the morning, that is something that
should be corrected; and I think he indicated here that the
manager was to look into that.

  Q. Well, look at correcting it. You went on to explain the
policy on pay and the 90 day probationary period and
reviews of the six months after that.

Then at the bottom of this page, you say: "I instructed the
Manager, Martin Coughlin, to complete all crew reviews that
were due as we were now at the end of the 90 day
probationary period for all full-time people who started on
       approximately 25th November 1978."

       Just one aside about that:  it says all full-time people;
would it be different for the part-time people; did they
have to wait longer than 90 days?
       A. No.

  Q. They did not?
       A. No. They would have a probationary review at the same
       time, same time period.

  Q. Do you know why it only says full-time people?
       A. I do not.

  Q. It was the full-time people who were making most of the
complaints about wages, was it not?
       A. Well, Sean Mosrek, yes, he was full-time. The rest of
the people I cannot recall that were part-time.

  Q. Did you instruct him to carry out the probationary reviews
on the people who had joined after that date, do you
       remember?
       A. Who joined after which date, sorry?

  Q. After 25th November, 1978?
       A. I cannot recall.

  Q. You do not remember?
       A. No.
