Day 258 - 07 Jun 96 - Page 45
organisation to do with the fayre?
A. I cannot remember. I just did not approve of what they
were asking.

Q. For example, organising the videos?
A. He may very well. I cannot remember exactly, but he
wanted to get more deeply involved. I am not sure whether
I told them on that day that they were not to do it or
whether be listened to what they had to say and then
Mrs. Brinley-Codd and I sat down and discussed it, but the
end result was they were told 'no'.

Q. But this was late in the day, shortly before they pulled
out of the investigation?
A. Yes.

Q. You did not have a similar meeting with any of the agents
from Kings or--
A. No.

Q. Did you have a similar discussion with any of the directors
from Kings?
A. No, the matter was never raised with Kings.

Q. Do you know of an agent -- or, not an agent, of somebody
called Ian Bush -- who either was an agent or?
A. No.

Q. From a company?
A. No.

Q. Can I ask you something about the Economic League? You
were subscribing to the Economic League. Your company, not
you?
A. Yes.

Q. It is correct, is it not, that basically the League had a
political vetting service for prospective employees, it had
a black list of people, and that was the purpose of
subscribing in order to vet employees before taking them
on?
A. No, I have never used them for that purpose. I know
very little about the Economic League. I know that Terry
Carroll was quite anxious to make use of their services.
I discussed it with him, as I said. At the time I was
somewhat reluctant but agreed to it going ahead. They give
us very little. They did help us with the Transnational
case, I do agree there, and they did bring to attention the
fact that Transnational Information Exchange distributed
your leaflet, in the form complained of, at one of their
meetings; I have certainly never used them to vet any of
our employees.

Q. Can I just ask, I would like the witness to read the back
cover, it is only fairly short, but it describes the
Economic League.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You had better show it to Mr. Rampton first.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, strictly speaking that is not necessary
