Day 247 - 10 May 96 - Page 61
was, and that is entirely a matter for me.

MS. STEEL: It is correct, is it not, that by your own analysis
48 per cent of the quarter-pounder is water or moisture?
A. It is whatever naturally occurs. There is no added
water.

Q. That is correct is it not?
A. I am not a scientist. Whatever part of a
quarter-pounder is water is what naturally occurs in the
ingredients, there is no added water.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There is no point in putting it, if you have
evidence of it there is no point in putting it to the
witness.

MS. STEEL: It is from one of their own documents.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Maybe it is. It does not surprise me.
I think 90 per cent of the potato and I think 70 per cent
of the human body is.

MS. STEEL: Well, it is Mr. Rampton who decided to put it to
the witness.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is a question of whether, granted it may
be right, the point you and Mr. Rampton will address me on
is whether, in its setting, it is meant to intimate more
than that. One way or the other I have to make up my mind
about that.

MS. STEEL: If I could explain what the situation is. The
situation is that I am trying to go through all the bits
which are not related to publication. I have some more
questions on publication, and then following the service of
Mr. Nicholson's supplementary statement there are some
additional questions that I want to ask in respect of
that. Basically, I am just trying to clear up all the
things that are not publication at the moment.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I suggest you do is to do that and we
will take stock as to time. If Mr. Preston has to come
back on Monday he has to come back on Monday, but keep
going with your loose ends and then you may have a clearer
idea of how much time you think you need to do with any
publication and matters arising out of Mr. Nicholson's
additional statement, which you have just seen, and we can
talk about that.

MS. STEEL: Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: At least, even if Mr. Preston has to come back
on Monday morning we may have a picture of how long he will
be here for.

MS. STEEL: Can I ask about the Bournemouth Advertiser
incident? When Mr. Morris raised this the other day you
said that we had already dealt with it, but when I looked
through the previous time that Mr. Preston was in the
witness box as far as I can see it was raised by
