Day 092 - 27 Feb 95 - Page 72

  Q. Each?
       A. Each.

  Q. So would it be something like that half of that
two-and-a-half pounds would end up going to McDonald's?
       A. You can make that estimation, yes. Do you have any
specific question as to why you ask this?

  Q. It is just so that we can calculate, effectively, how many
chickens -- it is the same with the pigs and the cows, you
use 15 per cent of the cow or pig, whatever it was?
       A. Yes.

  Q. We have done with this country as well?
       A. OK.

  Q. Just as a rough average, something like one-and-a-quarter
pounds from each chicken would go to McDonald's?
       A. If you want I can work out the numbers. If you want
the number of chickens, I can work out the numbers. That
will change throughout the year drastically. Japan ran a
big promotion last December and increased its sales quite
significantly. We have over 1,000 restaurants there.
There is a variation, a wide variation. If you have a
problem or a question regarding the number of chickens, I
       will be glad to answer.

  Q. McDonald's only has four per cent of Tysons' business?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. So all the chickens that are raised in these sheds are
       Tysons' chickens, not McDonald's chickens?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. So at some stage in their massive operation of Tysons, the
chicken flesh that is suitable for McDonald's will be
       separated out?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. So from each chicken it may only end up at 50 per cent of
the chicken flesh or may be less bird to McDonald's?
       A. Yes, but you have a specific question? Do you have a
problem with that, or what is your question?

  Q. It is just so I can find out the number of chickens per
year that McDonald's would have some part of the meat; for
example, if it is a pound to each chicken, it would be 250
       million chickens?
       A. Do you have a problem because we have a lot of chickens
or we use a lots of chickens?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, no, do not worry about where, if
anywhere, it gets at the end of the day.

MR. MORRIS: It is not a trick question.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you know how many chickens are killed in
North America each year, I will say in the United States,
tell us that. If you know from how many of those chickens
McDonald's must have taken some meat, tell us that.
