Day 046 - 04 Nov 94 - Page 53

       A. Yes. The characterisations are a bit different, but
I think they are having fun in here, too. So you have to
       make that assessment yourself.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to go on with it?

MS. STEEL: In some ways, it would be helpful if it could be
put back to the start, because we did miss the very first
       part of the soundtrack.

(The video recording was shown again)

MS. STEEL: The last part, the voice in the last part is not
the same person. So that is why I was saying-----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you identify that?

MS. STEEL: It is Lord Haughton. I am not sure how it is
       pronounced.

THE WITNESS: I think I remember the gentleman's name now. It
       is Barry Kline.

MS. STEEL: What he was saying was representative of McDonald's
views, at that time at least, would you think?
       A. I think we even have a document now that says that kids
have an influence on their parents.

MS. STEEL: And that you spend most money on children's
       advertising?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That is not what was said. Most of their
money, do you mean, or more money than others?

MR. MORRIS: I think he said, "We are the largest."

MR. RAMPTON: No. He said, "We are one of the largest."

MR. MORRIS: After that, he said: "We spend the largest amount
       of money----"

MS. STEEL: "We spend the most money on children's television."

MR. RAMPTON: He did not mean of McDonald's own money.

MS. STEEL: I did not think I was actually saying that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. But you were not suggesting that?

MS. STEEL: I think it is ambiguous, but I was not specifically
saying it was meant to mean-----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Very well. If we are going to actually to
look at words in detail, there is no hurry about it at all
as far as I am concerned, but I think I ought to have a
transcript of a particular ad where people want to refer to
       the wording.

MS. STEEL: I have served a Civil Evidence Act Notice on this
and, when I did that -- it is dated 22nd June -- I did
