Day 263 - 14 Jun 96 - Page 60

       particular people.

  Q. When were you first asked to give evidence for this case?
When were you first aware that you were going to be giving
evidence or that you might be wanted to give evidence?
       A. I think there was a possibility in 1993 that I might.
Other than that, more recently, it was a matter of two or
       three weeks ago, I suppose.

  Q. Right. Mr. Bishop said that he believed he had seen you at
other meetings other than this one, and that he then had
been told that you were an investigator. I cannot remember
what else he said, whether he was not to bother reporting
on what you did, or something to that effect anyway. Would
you accept that you attended other meetings?
       A. No, I did not. This was the only meeting I attended.

  Q. Actually, you said in your statement you do not remember?
       A. I do not -- I would have recalled, I am sure, attending
other meetings. My only recollection is that, subsequent
to this one, I turned up at the sort of anticipated time
and place and no meeting was held, which may have been a
       month later.

  Q. Can I just ask you to look at your statement?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you have it there?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you just draw my attention to the part of
the statement you had in mind when you put the last
       question about not recalling?

MS. STEEL: I see. It was in the supplementary statement,
paragraph 5, "After the passing of six years I cannot now
remember if I attended a further meeting. If I did, I did
not participate in, promote or encourage any activity
relating to McDonald's or on any occasion distribute the
leaflet complained of". (To the witness): Have you
changed your mind since you made the statement?
       A. Whereabouts is it? Can you -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is in 6B, right at the end.

THE WITNESS: Sorry, can you repeat that?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Paragraph 5.

THE WITNESS: Yes, and the question again, sorry?

MS. STEEL: "After the passing of six years I cannot now
remember if I attended a further meeting. If I did, I did
not participate in, promote or encourage any activity
relating to McDonald's or on any occasion distribute the
leaflet complained of." Is that what you told the
       solicitors recently?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Have you changed your mind?
       A. No, I have not.
