Day 179 - 30 Oct 95 - Page 26

  Q. Yes. So they would not be scheduled to do that, but they
might be called in to do it if they were short staffed?
       A. No, they would be scheduled for a 4.00 close which
meant you would go home after the shop was cleaned, which
would usually mean about an hour after, an hour, hour and a
half, so 12.30 to 1.00. But if an important visitor was
coming, everyone would be told they had to work until 6.00
in the morning cleaning, and they would still be scheduled
for their 11 o'clock shift and expected to come in the next
       day.

MS. STEEL: I do not have any questions.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you.

                     Cross-examined by Mr. Rampton

MR. RAMPTON: Can I try to find out some more precise dates,
please, Mr. Gibney? You started in June 1984 as a 16 year
old school leaver; is that right?
       A. That is right.

  Q. On your 20th birthday you were promoted to the salaried
       management training programme?
       A. That is right.

  Q. Was that at Colchester?
       A. It was at Colchester but the next day I was moved to
       Milton Keynes.

  Q. Milton Keynes. Can I ask you this -- this is not an idle
enquiry for personal information -- what is the date of
       your birthday?
       A. 20th November.

  Q. That would have been in 1987 that you became 20 on
20th November, is that right? Have I got it right?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Mr. Mark Davis was the Manager at the store for, I think,
about two of the years nearly when you were there; is that
       right?
       A. Yes, that is right.

  Q. Before that he had been a First Assistant?
       A. Yes, that is right.

  Q. Who was Mr. Davis' predecessor as Manager?
       A. Martin Holloway.

  Q. Do you know during your time there, 1984 to the end of
1987, November, how much of that time Frank Stanton was the
       Area Supervisor?
       A. Just over a year, I would say.

  Q. You tell us you remember a management meeting which you
attended, I assume, as a Floor Manager, is that right ---
       A. Yes, that is right.
