Day 267 - 21 Jun 96 - Page 17

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It starts then: "Just left meeting."

MS. STEEL: Right, yes. Where you have got, you see me at the
bottom, "Girl by the name of Ellen/Helen, also arrived.
She seemed to take control. She also wrote the minutes and
the agenda. She ran the meeting. She seemed to know a lot
about the group and most campaigns. She has a lot of
knowledge on all antiMcDonald's activity past and present.
She admitted to helping with all antiMac information
       leaflets and their distribution."

Would you agree that -- well, firstly, this is not talking
about an event coming up, is it? It is talking about
something that has happened in the past?
       A. It appears that way, yes.

  Q. Right. So, it appears to be some kind of, like, history of
       the antiMcDonald's campaign?
       A. No. It is notes that I would have made or the things
I would glean from that meeting.

  Q. Right. But in terms of what you said, they said, it seems
to be a history of the campaign?
       A. No. It would have come from what either you had said
that night or what others had said in that meeting.

  Q. So part of it is to do with what other people said in that
       meeting?
       A. It would have been what I gleaned from that meeting. I
cannot recall whether you said it or somebody else said it.

  Q. Right. Well, where it says, "she admitted", are you saying
that might have actually come from somebody else?
       A. No, I am saying if that is what my notes say it would
probably mean that you had said something for me to have
       made those notes.

  Q. Would you accept that I had been giving some kind of
history about the group because you seem to have me down as
talking about the group? Perhaps, because you saw somebody
who was a new face, I gave some kind of history about the
group and the kind of campaigns that people had been
involved in, in the past, and you took that as my admitting
to basically running all these things?
       A. Not necessarily that. It may be the case but I
cannot recall right at this period of time, but for me to
have used that word 'admitted' you must have said
something, I would assume, for me to use that word.

  Q. You do say that she seemed to know a lot about the group
and most campaigns and, of course, you go on to McDonald's
but, of course, you were specifically interested in
anything that was said about McDonald's so you would not
really have bothered to make a note about all the other
       campaigns that I talked about?
       A. That is probably right.

  Q. Right.
