       happened every night, sorry, yes.

MR. MORRIS: Are staff advised on the type of shoes they should
       wear?
       A. Yes.

  Q. How are they advised?
       A. I believe we ask them to have enclosed shoes, so that
is rather than sandals. I believe we ask them to be dark
coloured and -- I am sure this is in some of the documents
we have here. I cannot remember the other things. I know
the essence of it is that you have a pair of safe shoes of
dark appearance, rather than sandals or high heels.

  Q. Are management expected to be particularly smart?
       A. No more smarter than the crew but of smart appearance,
       yes.

  Q. Are they particularly encouraged to wear leather shoes,
       management?
       A. I do not know if it is specified that we say leather,
       but we may do.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: This is not your main thrust, is it? Your
main thrust is that it should be perfectly safe, whatever
       footwear you are wearing.

  MR. MORRIS: It should.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We cannot all be told we have to wear rubber
soles if we go into McDonald's, can we?

MR. MORRIS: Yes, OK. (To the witness): When there is small
electrical or mechanical work to be done in the store, who
       does that work?
       A. It would normally be an outside contractor to do
       electrical work.

  Q. Any electrical work?
       A. No, there is, I believe, some tasks covered on the
       applied equipment course.

  Q. Like what? What basically happens in stores when there is
minor electrical work to be done? Name the kinds of
electrical work that is done in-store without calling in
       contractors?
       A. I have difficulty because I do not have working
knowledge of this particular area but I know -----

  Q. You have been a manager, have you not?
       A. I have been a manager, yes.

  Q. So when you had electrical work to be done in your
       stores ---
       A. You want me to -----

  Q. -- without calling a contractor in, what kind of jobs would
       be done?
       A. I know when I was out in Operations that we had
instructions that we had to have external people to come
