  Q. Could you please get down pink Volume V?
       A. "Recycling and waste"?

  Q. Yes that is right. Turn to tab 49, please. Could you turn
to page 801? This is a letter from Councillor
Ian Donaldson. Do you remember this letter? Do you
       remember Councillor Donaldson?
       A. I certainly do remember him -- very well.

  Q. Do you remember discussing problems about environment/index.html">litter with him?
       A. Yes, I did. It was -- he wanted me to sponsor a couple
of bins. It was near Sloane Square and he wanted me to
       sponsor.

  Q. So it was his idea for you to sponsor environment/index.html">litter bins?
       A. More environment/index.html">litter bins.

  Q. More environment/index.html">litter bins. When did you first start sponsoring the
       environment/index.html">litter bins?
       A. I started after I discussed with Mrs. Linda Wells.

  Q. That was in November 1991, was it not, is that right, or at
       the end of October 1991?
       A. Yes, I would say towards the end of 1991, something.

  Q. Mr. Donaldson on the first page towards the bottom is
talking about various problems threatening the future
vitality of the Kings Road. Part of what he is talking
about is recession and then he goes on to talk about
       environment/index.html">litter?
       A. Could you kindly read that because my copy is -- it is
       a poor copy.

  Q. "I am, of course, very much aware that the current
recession coupled with escalating rental rates and the
Uniform Business Rate, both of which are outside the
control of the Council, are threatening the future vitality
of the Kings Road. There are other factors, though, which
I feel are important and where the co-operation and
partnership between the Council and traders could be
       beneficial."

He goes on to talk about Residents Associations and then
starts talking about the state of cleanliness of the Kings
Road. Then at the bottom paragraph on the second page he
       says: "I regularly inspect, usually at 6 p.m. and 3 a.m.
the street cleansing of the road, which has at times during
the busy summer season been very unsatisfactory. I have
been writing to the Director of Cleansing three or four
times a week highlighting when conditions have been
unsatisfactory because of the extraordinary amount of
environment/index.html">litter deposited by visitors on busy summer days and bins
are over-flowing". Do you think that is -----
       A. But he is not referring to McDonald's environment/index.html">litter.

  Q. No. Firstly, do you think that was an accurate comment,
bins over flowing and vast amounts of environment/index.html">litter dropped on the
       pavement?
       A. He has a big Ward so I do not know which area he is
suggesting to in that and a little while because I had an
