Day 246 - 09 May 96 - Page 33

       A. Yes.

  Q. Which is about employment conditions?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And which our witness, Harriet Lamb, gave evidence about.
You remember that they initially tried to fight the case,
       yes, Transnationals?
       A. I do not remember.

  Q. You do not remember, OK. They were eventually forced not
to carry on because they did not have enough money to do so
       -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am not interested in that. I am trying
       this case.

MS. STEEL: OK. (To the witness): You used their apology to try
and force, indeed to force, a play put on by school
children about working conditions in the burger industry to
       fold in Scotland?
       A. Ms. Steel, I do not force people to do anything.
I present the facts. I make my case. I let them make
their own decision. I would assume with them, just as I
would with anyone else, they, having been given the facts,
checked, double checked, maybe even triple checked, and
came to the conclusion that they got it wrong. I can say
no more than that. I allow them some latitude, some
       integrity.

  Q. Why did you not send all these so-called facts to myself,
Mr. Morris and the other three Defendants?
       A. I do not know that you were not sent them over time or
that you had not seen them in the media. You are very
acquainted with the issues here and now. I would have
guessed that whether we sent them to you or not, you had
some familiarity with these organisations and would have
gleaned what was going on from that which we dealt with
       direct with themselves.

  Q. Can I just say, we have now come onto the next page, page
14, and this is the document which I was concerned about.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do sit down, Mr. Preston.

THE WITNESS: Does this go back to someone?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Leave it there. Put it on the side.

  MS. STEEL: Page 14.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: It is just that at the bottom there is B and C, but
we do not know what they relate to.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Let me just read the page. (Pause)

Yes, what do you say you should have in order to make some
sense of B and C, then?
