Day 260 - 11 Jun 96 - Page 23

in me phoning Dave for Marion to have a conversation with
him; and if you look at Mr. Pocklington's notes of
       24th June -- sorry, 14th May?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Have you got them?
       A. Probably, but I -----

  Q. If I tell you what it says. On page 2 of his notes, the
very first paragraph says: "Dave Morris telephoned. He
said that he would attempt to attend the meeting next
week", and then he goes on. Would you accept that it was
actually -- well, it was actually -- whoever it was who the
phone conversation was with was actually phoning in as
       opposed to me phoning out?
       A. I cannot recall whether you initiated the call or
       whether you answered the phone.

MR. MORRIS: So, when you say in your statement, in your
       supplementary statement, paragraph 2 -----
       A. Is this the one dated 14th May?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is the supplementary statement with 8B.

MR. MORRIS: It should have a "B" on it.
       A. Yes.

  Q. When it says, "Helen Steel arrived with a specific request
from Dave Morris", you do not know that, do you; that is
       just what you just assumed?
       A. She arrived with a request from Dave.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He has already been asked that by Ms. Steel,
and he has accepted that she may or did say, "Dave wants to
know what is going on next week."

MR. MORRIS: So that is not even necessarily true that Dave did
want to know what was going on.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: He is not saying that; he is just saying what
       Ms. Steel said.

MR. MORRIS: Right. So you do not know if it was a request from
Dave Morris; it was an alleged request from Dave Morris?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We have just been through this, with
       Ms. Steel asking it.

MR. MORRIS: OK. That is hearsay, anyway.

(To the witness) "She telephoned Dave Morris" -- you do
not know it was Dave Morris on the end of the phone, do
       you?
       A. No, I did not speak to you. I do not know that it was
       you.

  Q. Right.
       A. That was the impression that I received.

  Q. I think that is -----
