about a number of different issues, one of which was:
"Please could you do this? " There was definitely some
       miscommunication.

  Q. They did not have a statement, did they?
       A. Well, at a later date they sent me a statement, yes.

  Q. At a later date.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I think what is being asked in relation
to, you see, a number of suppliers there and they do not
say: "We have a policy on humane slaughter and we enclose
a copy of it". Do you see what I mean?
       A. They do not say that in this letter. It is in response
to a verbal discussion. Now, I cannot remember the exact
       words of that discussion.

  Q. Do you ever remember seeing a statement of Roach policy?
I am not making any comment on where it may or may not take
us, but do you ever remember seeing which might amount to a
       written Roach animal welfare policy?
       A. Yes, I believe after this letter there was another one
that was sent which did actually have their policy in
       writing for us.

MS. STEEL: None of these suppliers have sent back a written
       policy, have they?
       A. Well, I do not think you have all the documentation
here. I need a chance to read it, obviously, but the
information that we publish is based on the information
given to us from our suppliers. I believe that is in
       writing from them.

  Q. Can you turn back to tab 1 in this bundle, please? Page 3,
going back to Oasters, it says in the fourth paragraph:
"All laying flocks are checked every three months for
Salmonella". Do you know what the results of those results
are? Salmonella is fairly widespread in poultry laying
       flocks, is it not?
       A. I think the checks are no longer done. I do not think
it is any -- I am pretty sure in saying it is no longer a
requirement for the hens to be checked. I do not know what
the incidence are. The checks are actually done now on the
eggs which is obviously a more important check.

  Q. Do you know what the results of those are?
       A. Yes, I do. I do not think they found a Salmonella
positive egg at Oasters for two-and-a-half years.

  Q. What percentage of the eggs do they check?
       A. I do not know that, I am sorry.

  Q. You do not know.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I am wondering about eggs. We do not
       have anything about eggs.

MS. STEEL: If it saves any time, I am not asking any more
questions. Lower down it says: "Renewable, natural
ingredients only are used in our poultry feeds and
