Day 072 - 12 Jan 95 - Page 50

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have to have your electrical plug
changing badge?
A. Yes, it is basically on basic electrics. Managers go
on a course or the maintenance people go on a course, so if
you choose a maintenance person they are qualified to deal
with basic electrical maintenance.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I can see you want to make sure the person
knows what they are doing for their own safety and fire
risk and things like that?
A. Yes, sir.

Q. But people will be taken to be trained and qualified to do
the simple maintenance jobs, certain people on the staff,
that is what you are saying?
A. Yes, certain people will not be qualified to deal with
electrics, even changing bulbs.

MR. MORRIS: When did you say you started using a bin rather
than just a bin liner, the cart, when did you start doing
that on your trash walks?
A. It was summer last year, summer 1994.

Q. There is a logo on the bin, a McDonald's logo, yes?
A. Yes.

Q. When you walked around the area checking up on the environment/index.html">litter
problem, what percentage or roughly what kind of percentage
do you think McDonald's environment/index.html">litter featured when you checked,
approximately?
A. I would not like to hazard a guess at the percentage of
McDonald's and the percentage of other types of rubbish.

Q. You did not do a report of those check-ups that you made
then?
A. A written report, no.

Q. No, but do not forget there have been two years of
continuous local residents associations' complaints about
McDonald's environment/index.html">litter.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, Mr. Morris would have to substantiate
that observation before he can put it as a question. I do
not believe he can.

MR. MORRIS: Residents associations have complained to you about
McDonald's environment/index.html">litter, is that a fact, yes, over the last
couple of years?
A. I would not say over the last couple of years, no.
There was a period when these letters were sent to head
office as well that the residents complained that they were
not happy with the situation, but it has not been
continuous over the last two years, no.

Q. So are you saying that the residents associations are now
happy with the situation? Is that what you are saying?
A. I am not saying they are happy. I am saying we have
not received any formal letters or any complaints from the
residents on a continuous basis, no.
