MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, but what I am trying to get hold of,
because what I understand the point made here is the RCD
system is put in as a safety measure. What I think is
being suggested is that there is a situation where it was
bypassed so that such safety function as the RCD system
provided was no longer there?
A. Yes, and you would -- in that case there would be -- in
that situation it would be the case and you would just have
to, I mean, all the equipment is individually fused as
well.

Q. I understand that, but is what you are saying is if it
tripped ---
A. Yes.

Q. -- you turned off all the equipment on that circuit, you
press the reset button, one by one you plug in the pieces
of equipment on that circuit and you do not get a trip
again, therefore, you have an indication that it is not a
fault in an individual piece of equipment. So far so
good?
A. That is right.

Q. But what do you do next? Is it in that situation that you
bypass the RCD system or what?
A. No. You leave the -- if the RCD still works, then you
leave it in. You just make a note of the fact that it did
trip out. It is only if you -- when you plug the equipment
back in, for instance, it would not be one specific piece
of equipment, it would be any piece of equipment that you
plugged in, it would trip -- when it tripped the RCD. If
you plugged the grill in and it stopped, you would think
that that grill is the problem. But if you plugged in --
if the first piece of equipment you plugged in did not
work, you might then plug -- "I will leave that unplugged",
plug another piece of equipment in and that did not
work ---

Q. I see.
A. If it became apparent that no power at all would get
through, then it was the RCD.

Q. So if you found that the trip was not specific to one piece
of equipment then you would bypass -----
A. That is right, then you would try resetting it and if
it failed to reset ----

Q. And you would log that?
A. -- then you would make a log of that on the inside of
the door where the RCD panel is.

Q. Just a moment. What I have noted was that if you found it
was not specific to one piece of equipment, you would log
it and bypass the RCD equipment?
A. That is right.

Q. How do you do that?
A. There is a control fuse which you remove. You would
then just unlatch that control fuse.
