Day 116 - 26 Apr 95 - Page 15

       A. Yes.

  Q. It is dated 19th January 1990?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Just turn over the page and tell me whether (as it purports
to do) it does, in fact, emanate from your office?
       A. It does.

  Q. Who is the person who has actually signed it on your
       behalf?
       A. Carmel Flatley.

  Q. Carmel Flatley?
       A. She was my deputy.

  Q. Is she still with the organisation?
       A. She is now Vice President Chief Personnel Officer.

  Q. It seems to go through a lot of people, amongst whom are
Market Managers, Operation Managers, Senior Supervisors,
Supervisors and Restaurant Managers, copies to Paul Preston
and others, Senior and Field Personnel Officers. What is
the system within McDonald's for making sure, if there is
one, that all those people see what they need to see, a
       document such as this?
       A. This would be sent to everyone mentioned on that list.

  Q. How, by post or how would it go?
       A. By internal post.

  Q. By internal post?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So McDonald's was operating -- perhaps still does, I do not
know -- a sort of kind of internal courier system, was it?
       A. It was -- it still does, but there is also the computer
       now.

  Q. I was going to ask you that. I cannot remember whether in
early 1990 people were using faxes and computer mail in the
       way that they do now?
       A. Not to the extent that we do now.

  Q. It is said to come from you -- you have told us that it
       did?
       A. Yes.

  Q. "Subject: Employment Act 1989. Date 19th January 1990".
It reads: "With effect from 16th January 1990, Section 10
of this Act comes into force. In general terms this
section repeals the complex regulations concerning the
hours of work of young people over school leaving age and
       under 18"?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Putting that with his Lordship's question a moment ago,
       that means 16/17?
       A. Yes.
