Day 068 - 16 Dec 94 - Page 50

       A. There were signed letters -- my impression is more than
an opinion -- that I saw, yes.

  Q. They are still there today, as far as you know? You have
       seen them recently?
       A. Recently, I have seen those. By my definition
"recently", by the time I have seen it, it is through the
period that I have been with the company. I have no
control -- if we follow our normal procedures, those
documents would be purged. So I do not know if they exist
       today.

  Q. Is there some reason why -- you have said people have told
you that Brazilian beef has never been exported to other
countries for McDonald's use -- is there any reason, any
policy, why that should not be so? As you say, there are
whole areas of Brazil that are not rainforest. So why have
people -- has the company any kind of policy on not using
       Brazilian beef outside of Brazil?
       A. I have stated at least two times that we do not have a
policy against any country, including Brazil.

  Q. So what is the reason ---
       A. We do not have a reason.

  Q. -- what is the reason that Brazilian beef -- there is a
very large production of beef from Brazil; yes?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Why is not beef from Brazil exported to other
       countries for McDonald's use?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, we had all this morning. No, my Lord,
I am sorry. I object to the continual repetition of the
same question over and over again. We are getting today
what we had yesterday, and we are getting this afternoon
what we had this morning. My clients are paying for this
case. It is objectionable and it is out of order.

MR. MORRIS: I am going to take it further.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Then take it further, but do not ask the same
questions you have asked before. Do your best to avoid
       that.

MR. MORRIS: I did not ask him what the reason is.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes, he did. We had hoof and mouth and we had
limited supplies; we had it all this morning.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have gone back over a number of areas
more than once. In a complicated case, it happens from
time to time, if only one forgets that one has done it.

MR. MORRIS: I was going to briefly touch on it. I was not
       going back into maps.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Ask a specific question about it. You are
asking a lot of very general questions like: "What is the
reason", when you have been told the reason. If you
