Day 269 - 25 Jun 96 - Page 92
think I described it as a threefold change during the
period of time in question.

So I think that could have made a major contribution
according to the scientific evidence to the reduction to
mortality at the end of the day and I just feel that having
reviewed the evidence for this court, because I did not
really think about it before that; this occasion, that it
would be, would have been interesting had some of the other
aspects of the industry responded in the same way that
Unilever had done because I think we might have seen a
greater impact on the reduction in mortality if they had
done so.

Q. No further questions. Thank you very much.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, thank you. Thank you Professor
Crawford.
A. My Lord, I do not know if you want this paper. You
probably have enough papers. This is saturated fats and
non-smoking women on breast cancer and lung cancer.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not want any more paper unless either
party puts it in front of me with the agreement of the
other. So hold on to it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Would you like to leave the witness box?
Leave everything there except what is your own to take
away, Professor Crawford, please.

(Witness withdrew)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is there anybody that can be usefully called
tomorrow bearing in mind the decision I made about
publication witnesses.

MR. RAMPTON: About publication witnesses?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: I have got nobody left.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No.

MR. MORRIS: We have not got anybody for tomorrow, No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think we are just left in the position we
cannot sit tomorrow and we cannot sit on Thursday. But
whatever happens on Thursday, you have clearly got your own
evidence to think about and your publication witnesses to
think about, and the only other person I am aware of who is
left apart from witnesses in those categories is Mr. Brett
who is fixed for Monday. So what I do want you to do is,
assuming that the Appeal is disposed of on Thursday, is
turn up on Thursday with -- on Friday rather -- with
witnesses to fill the day. Whether it is Mrs. Tiller.

MS. STEEL: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: And I suggest another. Will Mrs. Tiller last
