Day 261 - 12 Jun 96 - Page 28
obviously Mr. Rampton may not feel the notes are --
different from the statements -- are helpful or relevant,
but it is clear that large parts are.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will hear anything said about that in due
course. Yes.

ANTONY POCKLINGTON, sworn
Examined by MR. RAMPTON Q.C.

MR. RAMPTON: Are your full names Antony Pocklington?
A. Yes.

Q. We spell the "Anthony" without the H; is that right?
A. That is correct.

Q. I will ask this question first: were you instructed in
October 1989 to undertake certain inquiries on behalf of an
investigation firm or bureau call Kings?
A. Yes, I was.

Q. Were the investigations -- perhaps you could tell us in
your own words, as best as you can remember, what you were
asked to do?
A. My initial -- the initial request I received was to
attend a meeting in Blackstock Road, which I think was a
Hackney and Islington Animal Rights group meeting, and to
report on what happened at that meeting.

Q. Now, you have made in fact, I think, three statements for
the purpose of these proceedings. Could I ask you to find
a yellow volume (ii)?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is on the left, I think.

MR. RAMPTON: Please turn to tab 7. That has your name at the
top, has it?
A. It has, yes.

Q. Have you looked at this statement recently? It is signed
on the last page, and it is dated 8th June 1993 -- it
should be -- roughly three years ago.
A. I am not sure if I have seen this precise statement
recently.

Q. Is what your signature?
A. It is, yes.

Q. Did you read the statement before you signed it?
A. Yes, I did.

Q. Are the contents of the statement true?
A. To the best of my knowledge, yes.

Q. How good is your memory, Mr. Pocklington?
A. It depends on certain things. I remember certain
events; other things blur into each other.

Q. What are you like about precise dates?
A. Not particularly good; and with regard to this matter
