Day 159 - 20 Jul 95 - Page 32

have a cold or a bit of flu or something?
       A. No. I just phoned in as early as I could in the
morning to tell them I was unable to come. They said:
"Oh, well, come back when you are better; wish you well".

  Q. What about breaks during the course of the shift? Your
first period of time you were only working, I think, three
hours a day, were you not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Did you have any breaks during that time, 2.00 to 5.00?
       A. If it was very slack, yes, they would say: "Take a
       10-minute break".

  Q. They would, would they?
       A. Yes.

  Q. What about later on when you were doing four hours and then
for a bit five hours, would you get breaks then?
       A. The majority of the times I did, but sometimes it was
extremely busy, you know, and they would say: "Could you
wait?" and I would say: "Yes", you know.

  Q. During your breaks in those four and five hour shifts, did
       you get anything to eat?
       A. To eat?

  Q. Yes.
       A. Oh, yes, certainly.

MS. STEEL: Sorry, can you hold on?

MR. RAMPTON: Sorry. Did you eat their food or did you bring
your own in during the day?
       A. No, their food.

  Q. What sort of things would you eat?
       A. Well, I would only have an apple pie or french fries --
       I never eat meat.

  Q. You do not like meat?
       A. Not that type of meat. I eat meat pies and minced
meat, but I never eat hamburger. Can I say at the moment
       I eat their Chicken Nuggetts?

  Q. You like their Chicken Nuggets?
       A. Yes, very much.

  Q. Those were not there?
       A. No, they was not there.

  Q. They were not there in the old days?
       A. Not when I first started, no.

  Q. Finally, Mrs. Farrer, have you ever been to any rap
       sessions?
       A. Not many. I did when I first started. But, as I told
them, I do not like saying anything behind their back. I
would rather say it in front of their face.
