Day 014 - 20 Jul 94 - Page 63
1 A. It would be perfectly possible to eat that kind of
diet or at least include those seven cheeseburgers,
2 whatever, and still have a diet that matched the dietary
recommendations.
3
Q. We will look at the figures in a moment, Professor
4 Wheelock. When you say "it depends what else he eats", do
we assume he ought not to go home and then eat a meal of
5 sausages, chips or fish and chips, whatever?
A. Well, clearly, it follows from the arithmetic that if
6 every individual food that an individual eats has a fat
content higher than that recommended in here for the total
7 diet, then the fat content in the total diet will be
higher than that which is recommended. That follows
8 automatically.
9 Q. Can I ask you to look at a document which, I do not know,
I think you have seen it before, but it is an American
10 document. My Lord, this is 1990 Annual Report of
McDonald's Corporation. It is in volume III of the pink
11 bundles.
12 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Pink III.
13 MR. RAMPTON: Pink III. The section in question begins at page
57. As I say, the ones in the bundle are very difficult
14 to read. The passage in question runs from pages 57 to
68, 11 pages. In the original which I will pass up to
15 your Lordship, it is not as usual in quite the form it is
in the file.
16
MS. STEEL: What page of the file?
17
MR. RAMPTON: 57 it starts. Starting on what is file page 57.
18 You have in your coloured version -- can you go
backwards? Fold it up for the moment and go back to a
19 page which has some nice looking onions, raw beef, eggs
and stuff on it. It is after page 18?
20 A. Yes, I have it.
21 Q. You do not need to read all of this.
22 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Could we just pause a moment? It will take
a moment but I want to put those in my bundle. The first
23 page with the woman's face towards the bottom left-hand
corner is 61.
24
MR. RAMPTON: That is right. Then 62, spaghetti is 63, a table
25 on 65.
26 MR. JUSTICE BELL: 63, I think, is good enough. I do not have
a new 63. Then 61, 62, then 64 and 65.
27
MR. RAMPTON: Food and Nutrition -- this whole section is in
28 colour, is it not?
A. Yes, most of it is in colour.
29
Q. You are quite right. There is even colour on the pages
30 which are not really coloured. I want to draw your
attention to what is your page 23, which is the left-hand
