Day 153 - 12 Jul 95 - Page 64
from time to time of pieces of equipment giving small
electric shocks rather than just, you know, over ------
A. Very rarely, yes.

Q. The bun toaster was at one stage regularly giving electric
shocks, was it not?
A. I do not remember the bun toaster at all regularly
giving off electric shocks.

Q. On a number of occasions?
A. I just said I do not remember it giving -- regularly or
on a number of occasions.

Q. And the grill side freezers?
A. I do not remember them ever giving anybody an electric
shock.

Q. You do not?
A. No.

Q. When crew got electric shocks they would not put them in
the Accident Book unless they actually had some either
visible burn or their arm had gone dead or something like
that, generally?
A. I think at orientation the instruction was if you get
any burn or electric shock or any injury at all, then you
should put it in the Accident Book. So the impetus was on
the crew member to put it in the Accident Book; used to
encourage the Managers to put them in as well. I am not
saying that every single nick or slight slip or whatever
was put in the Accident Book, but the, you know, they did
go into the Accident Book.

Q. They would generally be entered by most crew if they felt
it was more severe than just, you know, a minor cut or
something like that?
A. Yes, they would generally enter it into the Accident
Book, yes.

Q. The minor cuts they would just, kind of, brush off and
think: "Oh, well, I will get on with it"?
A. Not always; it depended on the crew member. I mean,
there were some that would, you know, if they stubbed their
toe on the kerb outside they would probably put it in the
Accident Book.

Q. Some people would?
A. Yes. Human nature is some people are more assiduous at
doing that sort of thing than others.

Q. Other people think it is not really necessary unless they
have got something that is going to either last or might
have consequences at a later date?
A. Exactly, yes.

Q. Did you ever have any accident when you were working as a
Manager in Colchester?
A. Not in Colchester, I do not remember, but I had one in
Peterborough before I went to Colchester.
