Day 261 - 12 Jun 96 - Page 36
MR. MORRIS: There might have been one found in the bin and used
and recycled as something else.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So it might.

MR. RAMPTON: Then, do you see page 11 -- again, it is not
easily legible Mr. Pocklington -- the McDonald's notice, on
a drawer marked "9", but above that there is a sort of what
looks like a typewriter or a suitcase, briefcase -- it is
white, anyway -- with a "12" on it; and beside the 12, on
the right-hand side, there is a notice saying "McDonald's
makes me" -- and I think the word must be "sick", do you
agree?
A. It would appear so, yes.

Q. Can you give me a general impression from the time you were
there, from October 1989 until June 1990 -- we see here
somebody saying "McDonald's makes me sick" -- a general
impression how McDonald's featured in the group's thinking
and planning?
A. During the time I initially started attending meetings
of the group, it featured quite actively and it took up
quite a proportion -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Keep your voice up, please.
A. It took up quite a proportion of their time. This
appeared to diminish towards the end of my visits.

MR. RAMPTON: Did it show signs of expiring completely while you
were there?
A. No, it did not, no. The impression I got was that it
was something that was not going to be concentrated on as a
main feature, but which would still be perpetuated.

Q. Was there, while you were there at the various meetings you
went to -- some of them attended by Ms. Steel, some by
Mr. Morris and some by both -- was there any support for
McDonald's?
A. Was there any?

Q. Any support for McDonald's?
A. Not that I ever recall, no.

Q. What overall would you say was the group's attitude to
McDonald's?
A. The group felt that McDonald's were somewhat sinister,
somewhat exploitative, and their attitude was one of
disgust and dislike for McDonald's.

Q. "McDonald's makes me sick" would go for the group as a
whole, would it?
A. Certainly, from the people I had any contact with
within the group, certainly, yes

Q. Does that include Ms. Steel and Mr. Morris?
A. Yes, it does.

Q. Though McDonald's was not, in the later part of your time,
as you just told us, any longer the group's main focus of
activity, you said nonetheless it still featured; is that
