1 not five, six, seven years ago.

2 Q. Do you know when vegetable fat as a cooking medium was
              introduced in the United States?
3 A. A couple years before us, I think, but I am not
              exactly sure of the state.
     4
         Q. You did not feel you could make the change over at the
     5 same time?
              A. No, we did not.
     6
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can we just pause there? Was that
7 generally, when you say "introduced as a cooking medium in
the United States", did you mean in McDonald's
     8 restaurants?

9 MISS STEEL: Initially, I was asking about in this country,
then I was going to ask about -- the other question was
    10 about -----

11 MR. JUSTICE BELL: But when you asked when vegetable fat as a
cooking medium was introduced in the United States, you
12 meant as a cooking medium in McDonald's restaurants?

    13 MISS STEEL: Yes.
              A. That is what I took it to mean, Sir.
    14
MISS STEEL: I think you were saying just a little while ago
15 that you did do not add fat to any of your products; is
              that right?
    16 A. That is right.

17 Q. Yes? What about your sauces?
              A. Well, there is a formula that they are made to; the
18 fat content, the oil content, the vegetable oil content of
our sauces has been reduced steadily over time as
19 technology has allowed us to do it.

20 Q. But oil is an ingredient of those sauces?
              A. Yes, sure.
    21
         Q. So you are adding it to your products?
22 A. The same as anyone else would if they made a sauce at
home. If you made tartar sauce at home or if you made a
23 salad dressing at home, I dare say you would have to add
some oil too. That is part of the formula. If you look
24 in the cook book, I guess it is there.

25 Q. Do you know what the first ingredient of your birthday
cake is, the McDonald's birthday cake?
    26 A. No, I do not; I imagine flour.

27 Q. Would you accept it is sugar?
              A. No, not by volume I would not accept, not without
28 seeing a table, but I do not know. I am sorry, I do not
know. I would have thought flour was the biggest
29 proportion by a long way.

30 Q. When your ingredients are set out in your pamphlets are
they generally done -- the main ingredient is the one
