Day 134 - 13 Jun 95 - Page 30

Q. Do you remember that the number of codes has increased over
the last few years?
A. Not over the last few years, no. I said yesterday that
I think may be one more has been added now but, as you can
see, this is from 1990 and we may have one more here, but
I do not ever recollect a time when there were only 12.
Whether that was 15 to 20 years ago, I do not know.

Q. What is the new one, No. 20, that you have said?
A. I did not say it was No. 20. I said there maybe
another one.

Q. So what is the new one has been added then?
A. I am not sure. I was trying to be helpful in saying
I think there is one more that is current, but it might be
something to do with working for franchisees, I think,
going to work for a franchisee, I think we may have added
that.

Q. These two pages, these readings, are what are put down by
the managers after a person has left, yes?
A. Yes.

Q. On some form somewhere?
A. Yes.

Q. Is it on a standard form that a Manager puts down for all
the employees, or is it for each employee there would be a
reason for leaving in their personal file that will have to
be aggregated at some stage later on?
A. I did not understand the first scenario but I will say
how it happens. The Manager writes it on to the inside of
the application form which forms their record, and also
puts -- so they write it in but they also put it on to the
payroll system when they terminate a person via a number.

Q. Mr. Rampton went through this to some extent.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I suggest you restrict yourself to particular
points you want to make in so far as Mr. Rampton did not
bring them out anyway. When I say "particular points you
make", again not in argument but if you think Ms. Mead can
help or develop the matter further.

MR. MORRIS: The 22 or 23 per cent in document D that are No. 1,
that return to school or college, that percentage cannot
possibly explain why there is such a large turnover rate,
can it, whether it was 196 or 440 or, indeed, 120 per
cent? That section is only a fifth of the reasons that
people have left?
A. It is a little over a fifth, but certainly it does not
account for every leaver, no, that is right. I think the
figures show that.

Q. I presume if they are under 18 they would be at school, if
they are over 18 they would be at college -- you do not
know?
A. I do not know. Some people go to college when they are
under 18 too.
