Day 147 - 04 Jul 95 - Page 28
(Luncheon Adjournment)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is my turn to apologise for being late.

MS. STEEL: I may be wrong, but I believe the Plaintiffs have
something which they are going to raise in open court about
the transcripts.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause a moment. If Mr. Rampton does
have something he wants to raise, so be it, but otherwise
I would like you to finish.

MR. RAMPTON: I have nothing further to say, nothing further
than I have already said.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is there anything you want to add to what you
were saying before the adjournment?

MS. STEEL: I want to say something. We were going to speak to
someone from the stenographers' company, and
I understand -- I overheard Mrs. Brinley-Codd saying that
she is no longer coming to the court. Perhaps it would be
helpful if Mrs. Brinley-Codd conveyed to Mr. Rampton what
it was. I do not know. She was on her way over here and,
for some reason -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What did you want to speak to her about?

MS. STEEL: About the cost of transcripts.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I would like you to do at the moment --
because we must retain a degree of formality, otherwise it
turns into a drawing room discussion -- I would like you to
say anything further you want to say on the various matters
which have been raised. If Mr. Morris has anything to say,
I will hear him and then I will hear Mr. Rampton.

MS. STEEL: The thing is, we do want to say other things on
this matter, but we would like to speak to someone from
Barnett Lenton before we do so.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will hear Mr. Rampton, and then I will give
you an opportunity to do that, if the person comes.

MR. MORRIS: We asked them to provide some information and she
came over, but, apparently, the Plaintiffs spoke to her and
she went away again.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What information did you want?

MS. STEEL: About the cost of transcripts.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Rampton may be able to help.

MR. RAMPTON: I am not prepared to give your Lordship a precise
figure for two reasons: first, because the exact figure is
of no importance; second, because I have been told that
Barnett Lenton would much rather I did not give the exact
figure, simply because they have competitors and they do
not want their rates known. All I will tell your Lordship
