Day 064 - 08 Dec 94 - Page 54

       healthily"?
       A. I think we go on to explain that, do not we, "by making
the menu more nutritious", then we go on to say what we
       have done, reducing fats, etc.

MR. MORRIS: So the steps you have taken to help customers eat
more healthily are "Replacing the lard in our buns with
       vegetable oil; water base instead of oil based dressings;
also we have reduced the amount of fat in our cheese slices
and are looking at ways to reduce the salt and sugar in our
menu", is that what it is saying?
       A. Yes, that is not an entire list, but that is what it is
       saying. Yes.

  Q. When those changes were made that meant your food was
       healthier?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Again, if I might suggest, you have raised
your points on this. I did not want to cut you short here
because Mr. Oakley accepted responsibility for this
leaflet, but you have highlighted the points you wish to
       make.

MR. MORRIS: Over the page it says: "Every time you eat at
McDonald's you will be eating good nutritious food." If
I go into a McDonald's and buy a milk shake and take it
away, is that eating good nutritious food?
       A. Yes, there are a lot of nutrients in a milk shake.

  Q. If I just go in and have some chips, that is good
       nutritious food?
       A. Potatoes are also a good source of nutrients, yes.

  Q. If I go in and have a Mega Mac that would be good
       nutritious food?
       A. Yes, there are plenty of nutrients in a Mega Mac.

MS. STEEL: Is there any food you know of that is not nutritious?
       A. I do not know if you would call it food or not, but you
could put up an argument for black coffee or black tea or
       mineral water.

  Q. Right.
       A. On their own.

  Q. What about a Coca Cola?
       A. Coca Cola has a good source of energy, no question of
       that.

  Q. So you think it is nutritious then?
       A. Yes, it can be.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We ought to have our break. Have you
finished with that particular leaflet? I think you
       probably have quite frankly ----

MS. STEEL: There was something I wanted to ask actually. From
the edition of this leaflet that came before this ----
       A. Which document are you referring to?
