Day 184 - 06 Nov 95 - Page 20

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Does the school or university end at about
the end of May in Canada for the long summer break?
A. I believe so. I have not attended university yet but I
am pretty sure .....

Q. What about school then when you were at school?
A. High School, I was in late June.

Q. You go back about the middle or late September, do you?
A. The beginning of September.

Q. Beginning of September.

MR. MORRIS: For some of the time at Northern Reflections you
would have been still at school at that stage or you had
left school by then?
A. I worked, well, in June I worked McDonald's, Northern
reflections and I was going to school. Then, right, and
then I worked the two jobs, McDonald's and Northern
Reflections, for the summer and then I quit Northern
Reflections in September because I could not do both again,
like school, Northern Reflections and McDonald's. I could
not do it all.

Q. Did you have a discussion with Cam Ballantyne about your
job at Northern Reflections?
A. The only thing I did is I went into him and I told him
that -- I wanted to let him know that I had a second job
and that it would have no effect on McDonald's.

Q. But he was not happy with that, was he?
A. He was fine with it. He told me that he -- he said
that he has known a lot of people who have held two jobs
and that they usually find that they are happier at their
second job, so they usually end up quitting at McDonald's,
or pulling a (indecipherable) at McDonald's so that they
could work their other shift at their other, you know, job
placement. But I told him that would not happen and he
said that was fine. He said so long as I can handle both
jobs and as long as it would not affect my performance at
McDonald's, it would be fine. A lot of people now have two
jobs.

Q. Is that when they were trying to save up money or because
they have bills to pay or whatever?
A. It is usually because they are trying to save up money
for university or bills.

Q. When you started at McDonald's did you generally get eight
hour shifts?
A. No.

Q. What were the shift patterns?
A. They varied between three and a half to four and a half
to six and a half.

Q. So Mr. Ballantyne introduced new shift patterns, did he
not, when he took over the Company?
A. Not that I remember.
