Day 074 - 16 Jan 95 - Page 19
A. That is correct, sir.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Some take-away people would just come in and
just buy a burger though, will they not?
A. Yes, sir, burgers or sometimes fries or sometimes a
drink.

MR. RAMPTON: Indeed.
A. Depending on the weather as well.

Q. Some of the smaller hamburgers are wrapped simply in paper,
are they not? They are not in a clamshell?
A. Yes.

Q. I do not know whether it may be a matter for his Lordship
to work out what is the average potential environment/index.html">litter factor for
a take-away meal, but on a conservative estimate we are
talking, are we not, Mr. Siddique, about many thousands of
items of potential environment/index.html">litter every day?
A. That is correct.

Q. Have you ever seen at the end of the day in the streets
around Kings Road many thousands of items of McDonald's
environment/index.html">litter?
A. No, never, sir.

Q. When you had a complaint from a local resident about environment/index.html">litter
in the Kings Road area, did you take it seriously?
A. Extremely seriously, because one location, I recall it
very clearly, it was a Saturday and it was a busy time and
somebody phoned me up that there was environment/index.html">litter in front of
their doorsteps, and I left everything. I rushed down
there and they asked me to pick the straw up which I did.

Q. A straw?
A. A straw.

Q. Was it one of yours?
A. Yes, it was one of ours.

Q. Do you remember who that was?
A. No, sir, I do not.

Q. Do you remember which street it was?
A. It was in Smith Street.

Q. Yes. From your experience of the Kings Road, Kensington
High Street and Barnet, how would you rate what I might
call the "fussiness" of the local residents in the Kings
Road area?
A. I think in Kings Road people are very sensitive about
these issues, but in Barnet, if you compare it, it is
exactly the same because everybody wants to have a cleaner
environment in front of their doorsteps. So, I think it
right to both or all three of the communities.

Q. What do you feel about those ill-educated members of the
British public who drop your environment/index.html">litter on the streets, in
other people's gardens, in public parks and so on?
A. I think it is just a matter of attitude and maybe lack
