Day 079 - 27 Jan 95 - Page 50

       McKey's?
       A. I did not want him to see our documents.

  Q. Is that because he may be critical of certain practices?
       A. No, not at all, not at all. In the context of this
case and the fact I am standing here today and with my lack
of experience of court because I have never stood in a
court before -- well, that is not true, I have stood in a
court once before -- I looked upon Mr. North as "the other
side" and that is a human reaction. I showed him
everything. I showed him all our procedures. I told him
about all our quality control. I think that is rather
proved my doubt on Mr. North by his statement of the type
of meat I had in the plant which was not correct at all.

  Q. Have you anything to hide in the documents that you have
       got at McKey's?
       A. Not a thing.

  Q. So what is the problem with Mr. North seeing them?
       A. I have just told you.

  Q. Mr. North can be subject to cross-examination by the
       learned QC?
       A. I am a meat man; I am not a legal man.

  Q. I am going to look at your statement. I do not know if we
       want to break?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you have that tab 9 again, please,
       Mr. Walker?
       A. Yes, sir.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I am not sure whether that was a
       suggestion for a five-minute break?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We were not going to have a break unless
       Miss Foot asked for it.

MR. RAMPTON: I thought that may be that is what Mr. Morris was
        ------

MR. MORRIS: No, I was sort of basically indicating that I did
       not mind carrying on.

MR. RAMPTON: I am only standing up now because I thought that
is what he did mean. I am wrong about that. I do not
mind. There is something that I shall need to mention to
your Lordship at some stage before close of business today
concerning the evidence of Mr. Walker who, I guess, will
have to come back on Monday. I can tell your Lordship that
       he is free do so.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How are we doing, so far as time is
concerned? What is your candid view?

MR. MORRIS: I really cannot see us finishing today.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. Let us keep going now anyway.
