  Q. No what I meant was -- sorry, in this country -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is this not something you ought to direct to
       Mr. Walker?

MR. MORRIS: I am trying to see if McDonald's has any say in the
quality of beef that come through their abattoirs, not just
checks after they arrive at the abattoir, and after they
have come to McKey's, but do you have any say in the
       sources of the beef supplies?
       A. Well, I have told you several times, McKey would have
the say, if you wish, in the sources of the beef to the
       abattoirs. That is their function.

  Q. So McDonald's is not concerned over the sources?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You say that, Mr. Morris, but it is apparent,
is it not, that for better or worse McDonald's place a lot
       of trust in McKey?

  MR. MORRIS: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Whether it is right that they should do so or
not is a matter of argument, but that is clearly the basis
upon which they work. When Mr. Walker comes along, you
will be able to test him as to whether they are worthy of
that trust or not. Then, if it turns out that they are not
worthy of it, you can place an argument to me that
McDonald's should have done something more, whatever it is.

MR. MORRIS: McDonald's has specifications regarding beef from
       ex-rainforest land; is that right?
       A. I do not understand your question.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I do not believe that is right.

MR. MORRIS: "Rainforest or recently deforested rainforest
land", McDonald's in the UK will not accept ---
       A. We will not accept that.

  Q. -- you have specified that?
       A. It is not specified. It is a statement we have made to
our supplier that we would not accept beef from rainforest,
       recently deforested rainforest land.

  Q. There actually is a written specification, I believe, in
some of the later specifications: "Cattle from rainforest
or recently deforested rainforest land are prohibited as a
raw material source". This is the International Product
       Specification Addendum.
       A. That is an addendum to it, yes, that is correct.

  Q. That McDonald's International Product Specification
Addendum, if you just look at page 21 in what you have in
front of you, just while we are on the subject, the product
is US frozen quarter meat patty, yes, and frozen meat
patty? Is that a specification that applies in all
countries in the world apart from the US, or is that a
specification which applies to anybody that wants to supply
