Day 247 - 10 May 96 - Page 32

in book form, so I think both of the them are very
interesting. I thought the Kroc one was wonderful. It was
a great story of an entrepreneur.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think it boils down to this: Are you
content for students to rely on both those books as an
       accurate factual portrayal of McDonald's?
       A. I think so, sir.

MS. STEEL: Hopefully the next bit that you come to -- do you
have them all stapled into separate batches?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Is one headed "The McDonald's Student Information Pack"?
       A. That is this one.

  Q. If you go to page 2 of that document. The page numbers are
       at the bottom?
       A. OK.

  Q. The introduction?
       A. Yes.

  Q. It says:

"McDonald's is the largest and fastest growing restaurant
chain in the world. From Peking to Paris the 'Golden
Arches' have become a universal symbol of McDonald's."

       It goes on to say:

"Founded in 1955 a by Ray Kroc, the Company has expanded at
a dramatic rate. It now operates over 14,000 restaurants
in 70 plus countries worldwide and opens restaurants at a
rate of over per day (600 per year). With 75 billion
burgers sold each year and serving 28 million customers
       daily."

Is that an accurate record? Is that true?
       A. Well, the numbers have grown since then up to today,
but I think at the time it was written they were probably
       accurate, yes.

  Q. Right.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I was going to ask what date are we dealing
with here? I have been looking for one and have not found
       it so far.

MS. STEEL: It looks as though most of it is 1993/94, although
I think it is 1993 actually.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: (To the witness): Can you remember when that
       went out?
       A. The table on page 4 ends at 1993, so I am guessing this
must be -- Iceland opened in September 1993, so this had to
come a little bit after that.

MS. STEEL: So it was probably printed in 1994?
       A. I would guess, yes.
