Day 095 - 02 Mar 95 - Page 25

       A. Absolutely not. That would be the largest feed lot
that I have seen. I have seen pretty large feed lots, bit
       it is not typical.

  Q. Those cattle that were in those pens, they remain there
       until they were fully fattened?
       A. They are not fattened -- they are finished.

  Q. But the purpose is to ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- get them to put on weight, to fatten them up?
       A. They do not fatten them up.

  Q. OK, to put on weight?
       A. To put on weight, yes.

  Q. A rapid weight gain?
       A. It is rapid, yes. Rapid is relative but it is rapid in
       a typical range, yes.

  Q. Those ones that were shown, that would be towards the
beginning of when they were put in the ------
       A. It will change depending on the feed lot. The feed
lot, they do not go to feed lot all at the same weights,
all at the same time, all at the same age. It depends on
the availability of the cattle. There is a range. There
       is always a range.

  Q. But when they are first put in, they would probably have a
bit of room to move around but as they put on more weight
they have less room to move around?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you just pause there? You said it would
be one of the biggest food lots, but were the pens sizes
there pretty typical, the individual pens or not?
       A. I need to see it again.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you just play back? The next question
I am going to ask you is, Ms. Steel has asked you whether
they were all, in effect, youngsters and, therefore,
smaller. But I want to ask you whether or not that gives a
fair, general picture of the amount of space and spread of
cattle in the pens, in the feed lots around the States?
So, perhaps bear that in mind. If we can continue?

                  (The video recording continued)

THE WITNESS: That is typical, that is.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Pen size and spread of cattle?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you. Did you want to go on then?

  MS. STEEL: Yes, please.

                  (The video recording continued)
