Day 184 - 06 Nov 95 - Page 35
talk about their management way of doing things -- their
philosophy, if you like? (Pause)

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, do they?

MR. MORRIS: "We like to do it this way at McDonald's", and
things like that?
A. Yes, they would say that, you know, "We like to do it
this way", or, "We do this because".

Q. Right. That would be just normal conversation at the
store; yes?
A. Sometimes, yes.

Q. You have an orientation at the very beginning which would
be specific?
A. Yes, we have an orientation, and they would say, you
know, "This is the way we do things."

Q. That is all part of the condition of having a job at
McDonald's, to understand the way things work, yes, the way
the management would like things to work?
A. It is just the policies of McDonald's.

Q. The policies of McDonald's?
A. Right. I do not understand your question. I am sorry.

Q. Do you not feel that five years of being continuously
exposed to McDonald's business philosophy, way of doing
things, since you were 15 years old up until now, has had
an enormous impression on you -- in fact, pressure on you
-- to think their way?
A. I would say that it left an impression on me, yes, and
in a positive way, but not that I felt pressured in any
way. I have never felt pressured by McDonald's.

Q. But it has left an impression on you ---
A. Yes.

Q. -- of the way things should be done, the correct way things
should be done?
A. The McDonald's way, yes.

Q. How many training videos have you seen made by McDonald's
over the years; something like dozens, hundreds?
A. Not hundreds. They have two or three for every
station, so I would say about 10 to 15.

Q. But do you see other videos from time to time as well,
about the Company generally?
A. Yes. They are not training videos, though.

Q. Just generally how things are done and "how we are all
working as a team", and all that kind of stuff; yes?
A. Yes.

Q. Right. Do you feel that five years of listening to
management's point of view about the way things should be
done is a form of brainwashing?
A. No, I do not.
