Day 084 - 07 Feb 95 - Page 24
time by a Mr. David Wignall -- did you know him?
A. I did, indeed, he used to work for me.

Q. He used to work for you?
A. He reported to me.

Q. You were his boss, effectively?
A. From July last year, I was his boss directly. Before
that he worked with me on projects or for me on projects.

Q. In the same sense, Jill Barnes (who will also be a witness
in this case later on) also reports to you in that sense,
does she?
A. She has done since July, yes.

Q. As between the roles of Jill Barnes and David Wignall, what
is the difference, or what was the difference?
A. David was more concerned with food safety in
McDonald's, the establishment of policy, any changes to our
procedures, investigating new ways of doing things, better
ways of doing things. Jill was concerned with health and
safety of the people that work within our restaurants. So,
it is a food safety versus health and safety.

Q. When you say "Jill Barnes is concerned with health and
safety", is that just the employees or the customers as
well?
A. The customers as well.

Q. You may not know this, but I tell you so that you are aware
of it: Aside from the question of food safety, the health
and safety of customers in the restaurants has nothing to
do with this case, so will you put that out of your mind
for the present, please?
A. OK.

Q. Do you know a gentleman called Keith Kenny?
A. Indeed I do.

Q. Is he one of those that reports to you or not?
A. He does not report to me, no.

Q. Who does he report to?
A. He reports to Barbara Crawford.

Q. Where does the limit of his responsibility end, as it were,
and your responsibility begin?
A. He is responsible for the products until they reach the
back door of the restaurant. My departments, the people
who report to me, are broadly responsible for within, you
know, the confines of the back door and the restaurant.
There is -----

Q. So, if I have understood it correctly, broadly speaking at
the moment, your responsibility is this, that you have to
look after, on the one hand, the welfare of the product
within the restaurant; is that right?
A. That is correct.

Q. And, on the other hand, the welfare of the employees within
