       A. Yes, although that has been never been demonstrated as
a result of a residue in meat.

  Q. But that is the view of the various bodies that have banned
its use for animals in forming part of the human food
       chain?
       A. Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, if those answers by Dr. Pattison as to
the extent of danger to human health of residues, even
supposing they are found, is to be challenged, then now is
       the time to do it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Deal with the carcinogenesis first of all,
I suggest, because that is what Ms. Steel is asking you
about. Then I think it would be helpful if you disagree
with the very minimal answer to put anything in
       disagreement to do that.

MS. STEEL: I do not understand; he has answered the question.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, but question is are you accepting it or
not? If this court case was about whether someone went
drove over a red light or not and your case was that he
had, and the witness said he did not drive over a red
light, you would not just leave it there and that is the
       point here.

For all I know, you are accepting that the risk of human
health is very minimal, which is what the witness has
said. If you do not, now is the time to put to him that
his answer is wrong. If you have got a basis for saying
that it is wrong, put that too. Then it is out in the
open. He has had an opportunity to answer it and we will
be able to attach on to any further evidence in the due
       course.

MS. STEEL: I have done because I have put the view of the
various countries that have banned that drug.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I do not know, you see, because they might
think that the risk to human health is very minimal but
provided there is any risk at all, if there is an
alternative which is not carrying a risk they should be
banned, or for political reasons they may have done.

MS. STEEL: They banned it because -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You see, that is what I do not think -- by
all means correct me if I am wrong -- you have got round to
suggesting to the witness. Just go back and see. It is at
about 35.20 you raised the question of bans in the US
followed by Canada, Australia and Germany.

MS. STEEL: The witness did say that the concern was that it was
carcinogenic. Then he said: "Yes, although that has never
been demonstrated as a result of residue in meat".

"Q. But that is the view of the various bodies that have
banned its use for animals in forming part of the human
