Day 275 - 08 Jul 96 - Page 39

reference to local groups, and I do not really know the
origins of the campaign apart from what I have heard passed
down by kind of history, by word of mouth.

MR. MORRIS: Which one is the second page, sorry?
       A. Second paragraph.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is the second page of the notes of 20th
       September. Mr. Bishop.

MR. MORRIS: Second page, second paragraph; right?
       A. But certainly I would say that it was my experience
from what was reported on at meetings that local groups
were far more involved in campaigning against McDonald's
than London Greenpeace was. As far as I was aware there
was nothing organised by London Greenpeace, or under the
London Greenpeace name, throughout the whole of, from the
time of the October 1989 anti-McDonald's fayre right
through to the World Day of Action on 16th October, whereas
local groups around the country, and in particular Hackney
and Islington used to be brought up frequently, were
       organising pickets of McDonald's stores.

The next one I wanted to refer to was page 207H, which
is the notes of Michelle Hooker.

MR. MORRIS: What date are those?
       A. 20th September 1990. She refers to her and Charlie
having started the mail out on 18th September and, having
read the notes, I do actually remember that being said at a
meeting, that they had got it started and got it well
underway and then it was a matter of finishing it off at
the meeting. It is certainly my recollection the
fact sheet that we are being sued over was not going out in
the mail out, that there were not any left at this stage,
apart from a few copies in the filing cabinet for
       reference.

Just on the next page, just to confirm about the part
where I was getting 4,000 leaflets printed for the picket
at the Bank of England. I do not remember exactly how many
were being printed, but that sounds quite reasonable. But
they were also for the picket of a bank in Wood Green,
which is referred to in the paragraph before.

Just a general point about the fayre. I had no
involvement in organising the fayre; I had no involvement
in organising any of the fayres. I helped out on the day
basically because they were short of people, but I did not
take any part in organising it. On page 26 of Frances
Tiller's notes, 20th September 1990, actually I am not sure
what page number these are in the bundle.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Well, it is page 207B as I have it and it has
got the one with a 2, with the 26th at the bottom?
       A. Yes. The third complete paragraph just that Paul would
not be a guest speaker at Hackney and Islington as a
representative of the subject group. He would be speaking
representing his own views but, obviously, he might say
that he was from London Greenpeace because that was the
