Day 256 - 04 Jun 96 - Page 30

MR. MORRIS: Are there any comments you want to make apart from
the ones you have already said in your evidence?
       A. Well, just reading that first paragraph, where it says
from, "This analysis", I gather that Professor Hill is
being extremely conservative about his views on this field,
much too conservative. That is one comment.

The second comment, I have no problem with those (1) and
(2). That is fair enough what he is saying there, but I
would not certainly go beyond that.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You say "Professor Hill". Do you know who he
       is?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Tell us about him because no one else was sure the other
       day.
       A. I cannot say too much, I guess. I knew of his work.

  Q. Do you know what his discipline is?
       A. I do not know exactly but I know the area that he
actually published in. I have never inquired as to what
his specific discipline is but he was involved in doing
work in the 1970s on dietary fibre, and I think a colon
cancer and bowel disorders and that sort of thing, so I am
familiar with some of that earlier work. I have not
actually met him in many years, so I do not know what
       actually he is doing now.

  Q. Just pause a moment.
       A. But I have no problem with those two statement that he
has there, they are well and good, but really they are much
too conservative. He has not taken into consideration a
lot of things that we are in fact discovering in the China
Project an many others are discovering elsewhere.

MR. MORRIS: Right. I think we will leave it there. I will
just see if there are any further questions that we need to
       ask.

I was going to check Dr. Arnott's statement in case there
is anything there. I would just ask you one question: Are
there any plans to publish the China study?
       A. Publish it?

  Q. Is anyone planning to publish the China study?
       A. What do you mean, beyond what has already been
       published?

  Q. Sorry, that has been published and is available, is it?
       A. Yes. This is in the public domain but we do have
obviously opportunities to publish a lot more.

  Q. OK. No further questions then. Thank you.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Thank you.
