Day 062 - 06 Dec 94 - Page 46
A. To the best of my knowledge, yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Take your own sectors. Morocco obviously is
not Europe, but it is Europe for your purposes?
A. It is, yes. I am not aware of any material going from
our suppliers via ourselves outside of Europe. We would
not be responsible for that.

MS. STEEL: Does any packaging material that is used inside
Europe come from outside of Europe?
A. Until recently we got some items, a very small
percentage of items came actually from the States, from our
mother company, via our mother company, in the States, but
we are talking about a very small percentage. You are
talking about those type of items which would be more used
in the US, and the volumes that are actually used here
would not make it worthwhile in actually trying to produce
them locally.

Q. What type of items are you talking about?
A. I know some of the pizza cartons, for instance, have
been produced in the States when they started doing a pizza
programme here. Currently, they are mostly supplied from
within Europe, from within the UK actually.

Q. So when did they stop shipping them in from the States?
A. I could not tell you exactly. It was taken over slowly
when somebody from inside here, from the UK, when the
volumes were large enough to sustain actual production
here.

Q. What were the cartons made of, the pizza cartons?
A. I think they were made of a 60 per cent recycled
material.

Q. So they were paperboard?
A. They were board, yes.

Q. What other items do you know about?
A. Some salad packaging used to come from the States.
That is polystyrene, clear polystyrene, with the black
bases. They used to come -- well, they used to come from
Canada, but they are now, that company actually set up and
owned a production site here in the UK, so they have
started to produce them in the UK.

Q. When was that set up then?
A. That plant has only just been set up, and I think since
a few months we are now using salad packaging produced here
in the UK. But, since that is plastic packaging, it is not
recycled or anything.

Q. Are there any other items that you know about, any other
packaging item?
A. Only vaguely. I know that we did -- some of the large
cups came at a point from the States because we happened to
have them there standard and we did not happen to have them
here.

Q. Are they large cups for hot drinks or soft drinks?
