MR. JUSTICE BELL: Keep your voice up, please.

THE WITNESS: I made an appointment to meet her I think around
8.30 in the morning, one morning -- I do not remember the
date exactly.

MR. MORRIS: She said it was on Monday, 27th September 1993?
A. Yes, that sounds right; the 27th sounds right.

Q. How do you know it was around 8.30?
A. Because it was before school started and school started
at nine and I was late for school, but Rui came to my house
really early in the morning to pick me up so that we could
go and talk to her.

Q. Did you assure her she would get a wage increase, job
security and pension benefits for the full-time staff?
A. No. Did I promise her that, is that what you are
asking?

Q. Yes.
A. No, I did not. I told her those were issues that you
could -- that we should negotiate, but I promised her that
she would have job security and dignity and respect. Those
were the only three things that I ever promised anyone out
of this union drive.

Q. Job security in what aspect?
A. That if they do not fire you for a just cause, then you
will be able to dispute it and the union will represent you
in this and take your case.

Q. That is what you mean by job security?
A. Mmm.

Q. Right. She said later that evening she asked for her card
back?
A. Later what evening?

Q. That evening, or when do you think she asked you for her
card back, if she did?
A. I do not believe it was that evening. I think maybe it
was a day or two after.

Q. Right.
A. Then I referred her to Rui because I did not have the
cards, because Rui was with me when we signed her up, so he
took her card with him to Toronto.

Q. Right. He was based in Toronto?
A. Yes.

Q. The final thing taken from her statement specifically is
that she said she considered Marion Drummond's visit to the
restaurant -- you remember the woman from Head Office,
McDonald's Head Office in Canada -- it would be a normal
