Day 262 - 13 Jun 96 - Page 18

"....who is a full-time student at Leicester Polytechnic
and who was considering trying to organise an
anti-McDonald's fair in Leicester. However, at present,
this is a plan rather than something which any action has
been taken over."

So, again, that was something that you felt was someone
saying something noteworthy about McDonald's?
A. Well, I presume so, yes.

Q. I am just trying to pick up on the point that, generally,
if there was something of significance said about
McDonald's, you did make a note of what was said, roughly,
and who had said it?
A. If I remembered who had said something, then I would
have. This is a slightly unusual situation, is it not,
compared to a lot of the other things that would have been
said at meetings.

Q. In what way?
A. In that it involves a different area and involves
someone setting up something different and new. I do not
know the real reasons why I have remembered some things and
not others, but it is the case.

Q. The final paragraph on that page says:

"Next Tuesday, 19/12/89, there are plans for some people
to come into the office and to have another go at answering
letters. It was not specified which members of the group
should turn up, just those who were willing to help."

There was not any kind of expectation that people had to
take part in answering letters or, you know, anything like
that; it was just up to whoever wanted to come could go in
and answer letters; yes?
A. There was no expectation on people. There was --
I suppose it was dependent on people's goodwill.

Q. But there was not like some kind of thing where, you
know: "It is a duty. If you are going to be part of this
group, you have to answer X number of letters"?
A. There was no set down rule or rota.

Q. Basically, anyone, such as yourself, who turned up and who
expressed an interest could go along and do it, if they
wanted to?
A. There was never any objection raised to my volunteering
to do it.

Q. On the following page, you say:

"Jonathan, who originally suggested that they might get a
key cut for me, has shown up only a very few times since
then. This issue has not been raised again, and I feel it
imprudent for me to be the one to do so."

Did you ever get a key?
A. No, I did not.
