Q. Right. But apart from the grand opening, say, for example,
in the UK, is there anything apart from the grand opening
which--

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What are you batting at here?

MR. MORRIS: The sales building priorities, and this is a
particularly -- the on-going community relation down the
left hand side there include, for example, in the second
in-store basics, 'execution of market wide programmes, kids
marketing, birthday parties, store toys', that kind of
thing.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I can read all that. Tell me what you
are having a go at here.

MR. MORRIS: They are all sales building priorities in the UK as
well as in the US; yes?
A. Individually they might be, but probably management
within the UK would disagree as to the -- what I mean, this
is the US plan, this is how the US in 1991 were
recommending their stores opened.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What I have difficulty is seeing where we are
going. McDonald's, whatever else it is, is a commercial
enterprise which wants to sell to more restaurants and has
said through its witnesses on several occasions already
that advertising to children is very important in that
objective. Now, does this take the matter any further?

MR. MORRIS: Well, I suppose it underlines.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It does not need underlining, it has been
stressed by McDonald's own witnesses.

MR. MORRIS: Right. I will just see if there is anything else

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do. If there is something completely fresh
I do not want to deter you from it, but what I have just
said seemed to me to be common ground.

MR. MORRIS: Right.

MR. RAMPTON: With this additional feature, my Lord, and perhaps
I need not add it now, but I will add it in closing the
case, that it is accepted that ronald mcdonald himself is a
useful marketing tool.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, absolutely. I was only attempting to
give the briefest summary.

MR. RAMPTON: If they want to put that--

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There we are.

MR. MORRIS: Actually, that raises a legal point. If the
Plaintiffs want to make a large number of admissions before
the closing speeches it might cut down on the work needed.
