Day 161 - 24 Jul 95 - Page 07
A. That particular girl is a very quiet girl; she does not
say much, but a very good worker. So I wanted to know --
I specifically wanted to know, as she is a good worker,
what would she like in future for McDonald's. Quite often,
in my experience, people are shy to ask what they want, or
afraid to ask. So the point I was making in that
particular time is to find out what does she want from the
restaurant, beside working and getting paid for it.

Q. In your very long experience in McDonald's as a Manager and
a supervisor, have you found that there are some people who
are not interested in progressing within the Company, who
are quite happy just to do their hourly work and take their
pay home?
A. Yes, quite a few.

Q. Then, do you remember, there are some scenes of a rap
session, I think, conducted by a gentleman called
Mr. Paul Hickling; is that right?
A. That is correct.

Q. What did you make of those scenes of a rap session? Were
they typical or not?
A. No, they are not. It is quiet. Normally, when you run
a rap session, it is so much they talk about, it is not
easy even to control it.

Q. That one shown in the film seemed to be quiet to you, did
it?
A. Unusually quiet.

Q. Did you know the people that took part in it?
A. Yes, I do.

Q. Would they normally be as quiet as that?
A. No.

(Pause whilst a problem with the Defendants' Caseview
monitor was dealt with)

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I am not intending to show the film
unless your Lordship would like to see it again.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No.

MR. RAMPTON: One noticed from the film, Miss Anteneh, did one
not, that there was a certain amount of sort of giggling
from the crew members. Is that a normal feature of a rap
session?
A. Not at all.

Q. Before we leave that, may I ask you about one more thing
only from the film. Do you remember that at that rap
session somebody (I think it was a male crew member) had
some kind of grumble or complaint -- whether it was serious
or not is a matter for his Lordship to decide -- about the
pay? Do you remember that?
A. That is correct. Yes, I do.

Q. Did you recognise that crew member?
