Day 005 - 04 Jul 94 - Page 76

1 agree was a serious incident and not what the company
wanted, was there any action taken against that region?
     2 A. Regarding what?

3 Q. Regarding that situation that developed?
              A. But I think the action that was taken was related to
4 one individual and one circumstance and it was carried out
by the courts of this land. I would wholly support what
     5 exactly what took place.

6 Q. Was there no investigation into that region to see if
there was a problem with communications?
7 A. There was no rereason to think that what occurred here
or what prompted her to do what she did was rampant
8 throughout the north-east of England.

9 Q. Did people from senior positions go to that store
              following that incident?
10 A. I gather they did. Did I go myself, no, but I am sure
when the regional manager or officer director were
11 involved, that is pretty senior.

12 Q. If there had been a problem with the region, if you
thought there might be a problem in the region, would you
13 not send someone from another region or someone from
              higher up?
14 A. I might do. This was a criminal action.

15 Q. But it was not sent in that case?
              A. The investigation was in not my hands. The
16 investigation into these people and what they unlawfully
did was in the hands of the police. Therefore, I quite
17 frankly know my place. I step back, let them handle it.

18 MR. JUSTICE BELL: But all the statements we have here have the
McDonald's stamp on. They are not Section 9 police
    19 statements.

20 MR. MORRIS: No, they are all McDonald's statements.
              A. My people were involved in the investigative sense,
21 but the actual charges brought were police charges.

22 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can I just repeat the point I was trying to
make, that the question of percentage is related both to
23 how much you pay people in certain jobs, how many people
              you have in that job.
    24
MR. MORRIS: How many hours they work, for example.
    25
MR. JUSTICE BELL: Maybe, yes, and to turnover as well. There
26 may be other factors, but it is all those matters. So
just make a mental note. If at the end of the day you are
27 going to say it is related more to hourly rates or more to
numbers of people or more to hours than it is to turnover,
    28 show me the document.

    29 MR. MORRIS: Yes.

30 MR. JUSTICE BELL: At the moment -----
