Day 042 - 31 Oct 94 - Page 54

  Q. Are you suggesting that every child in the country has had
one, or knows what size they are?
       A. Had one, I do not know. I would think that the
majority of children in the country are aware of the Happy
       Meal, yes.

  Q. The size of it, though?
       A. Well, yes. I meant the entity of it, the whole thing.

  Q. The other thing was: did you see anybody winding up those
       cars.

MS. STEEL: I just want to ask about the European Golden Arches
Code. The first one we have been given is a copy of is
1992; is that the first one that exists?
       A. I am not sure, to be honest. I do not know.

  Q. You do not know?
       A. I do not know. I would imagine there is one before
       then but .....

  Q. Do you remember having seen one before?
       A. Oh, yes, I do.

  Q. A European one?
       A. Actually, a European one? Yes, I have seen a European
       one.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, in bundle VII at tab 6.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: C6 and 7 appear to be 1985 and 1987.

  MS. STEEL: They are American.

MR. RAMPTON: They are American, but if one looks at document 6,
for example, one finds, although it is "for the exclusive
use of employees and licensees of McDonald's Corporation"
only, one sees a date stamp on it in German, 1st July,
1985, which suggests perhaps that its provenance might be
       European.

MS. STEEL: Except that it says on page 47, it has: "The
American flag and United States paper currency must never
appear on camera"; and on page 49: "Vehicles used in
       commercials should be American made".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. It is obviously originated for American
use. Maybe we will hear evidence. I think what is
suggested is that, although it originated in America, it
       was provided for the use of European establishment as well;
whether that will be so or not, I do not know.

MS. STEEL: That is what I was asking, whether the European one
was the first European document or what was used prior to
       the 1992 one.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know what, if anything, was used prior
       to 1992?
       A. Yes, as a general guide, we used the American one; the
