Day 081 - 31 Jan 95 - Page 52
A. Well, I have a biology degree, as I said to you, so
these things are familiar to me, but I do not need to study
them in depth for what I do.

MR. MORRIS: We are just seeing if there are any more questions
we want to ask.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you want to take the five minutes now?

MS. STEEL: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How long do you want?

MS. STEEL: Perhaps 10 minutes.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, might I say this before the Defendants
conclude their cross-examination of Professor Jackson.
I am informed that Mr. North has been in court late this
morning and this afternoon.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: That being so it might be helpful, it is only a
suggestion, I am not saying they have to got to do it, it
might be a good idea if they got from him to put to
Professor Jackson what is meant by that rather opaque
paragraph about the 1 and 25 per cent.

MS. STEEL: We did ask him and it was what I put to the witness.

MR. RAMPTON: Perhaps it is best to put it again.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I would be grateful if you can put it again,
because whether or not it should have been clear to me it
has not stuck in my mind. It is the salmonella burden
which I am concerned to understand. So, whether I should
have taken it on board when you did mention it, I would be
grateful if you could ask about that again.

MR. MORRIS: Can we do it now before we break? We might as
well.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No. What I suggest is you do it all in a
piece having spoken to Mr. North during the 10-minute
break. If you want more than 10 minutes you shall have
it. Take the opportunity to ask Mr. North has Professor
Jackson said anything with which he would actually disagree
when he came into the witness box himself, which you should
put.

(Short Adjournment).

MS. STEEL: It is 25 per cent of the meat samples. I was trying
to find the question again.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: As you understand it, for instance, if it is
one in four chicken McNuggets or something like that, is
it?

MS. STEEL: I think if the meat sampled -- I do not know whether
