Day 246 - 09 May 96 - Page 52

MR. MORRIS: I do notice at the bottom of the previous column,
it says "McDonald's spokeswoman Corrine Reid says", so
I presume you will not remember whether it was her who
speak to the Daily Mirror regarding that article. Does
that bring back any memories?
A. Well, she would have certainly been in the Company at
the time. The bit about "if it became compulsory we would
be happy to do it but it would take a lot of expense so we
prefer to wait for legislation", I do not know -- Miss
Walsh says she was told this. She does not say by whom.
The only McDonald's name in that column or previous column
is Corrine Reid. I do not know that it was Miss Reid but
it could have been.

Q. OK. I will just see if there are any more questions?
A. I have to say that that would not have been her
decision.

Q. Right.

MS. STEEL: Just while we have got this bundle open?
A. Are we finished with these two for the time being?

Q. Yes, you can put them back in. If you could turn towards
the back of that tab?
A. OK.

Q. It is the fourth page in from the back?
A. OK.

Q. There is an article on the right-hand side by David
Bringwall and I think this is from The Guardian, by the
look of it, from December 12th, 1992. If you just have a
quick look at the article?
A. OK.

Q. Do you remember when McDonald's decided to open up in Guys
Hospital?
A. I remember the day that we opened, I was there.

Q. Right. Do you remember that prior to the opening, it looks
like it was the week before the opening, McDonald's Public
Relations Office sent a memorandum to Guys Hospital on how
to handle press interests in the Company's first hospital
restaurant in Europe?
A. I do not think I was party to the "we are going to send
a memo to Guys Hospital". They may very well have. The
article seems to say they did or attempted to.

Q. Do you remember any kind of controversy about this, for
example, this article in the newspaper?
A. By "controversy" you mean?

Q. Well, I do not mean kind of a big inquiry or anything, but
if this was brought to your attention?
A. This particular article?

Q. This matter of the memorandum going astray and getting into
press hands?
