New for Version 1.1 Beta:
- Remote Server
Unlike the previous version (which required at least the initiator to download and
install the WebCollab application on his/her machine), Version 1.1 does not
require any of the participants to download and install anything on their machines.
The WebCollab Server is installed on a remote machine, and all participants, including
the initiator, simply connects to the server using Netscape Navigator. All interaction,
including starting and stopping a session, is done through the WebCollab Applet.
- Integrated Services
The central WebCollab server now comes integrated with its own Web Server and
Ftp Server. Participants can send slide image files directly to the server
directly through Netscape, directly from Freelance Graphics, or using standard FTP clients.
Participants can download slide image files from the server directly from their
browser.
- Increased Security
WebCollab sessions are now secure. A password (set by the initiator) is necessary to
connect to a session. Only participants in a session are allowed to send slide images
to the server and to download saved images.
- Improved Performance
Many of the functions in WebCollab have been speeded up. Slide images are now
loaded in the background, so that there is a potential delay in accessing
only the first slide. All subsequent slide changes occur instantly.
- Image Save
Users can now save the slides that they modify or create!
Images are saved on the central server machince in PCX format. The saved files are
available to all participants for some time (fixed by the server administrator)
after a session ends. Participants can download the saved images to their local
machine in during the alloted time.
- Additional File Type Support
WebCollab now supports PCX image format files in addition to GIF and JPEG formats.
This allows users to save modified slides and to load them back into the session
again.
- Improved annotation support
WebCollab now sports a totaly revamped look for greater ease of use. A new freehand drawing
tool is available. Text annotation has been improved greatly.
