or the food exposition of 1887, a part of the museumplein was
restructured as a marketplace of a 17th century Dutch city. The visitors of the exposition could
become acquainted with all sorts of food and their methods of preparation. The aim of this exposition
was threefold:
- to increase the knowledge of articles of food which are provided by animals and plants;
- to strive for improvement by mutual comparison;
- to fight the prejudices against new efficient and suitable commodities.
The exposition was divided into eight main parts:
- animals and plants from which articles of food can be derived;
- articles of unprepaired or partly prepared food;
- articles of food ready for usage;
- beers, water and fruit-juices;
- expedients for preparation, storage and shipment of the above articles of food and drinks;
- resources for research and knowledge of articles of food and drinks;
- articles of food ready for preparation in the kitchen;
- general usage and administration.
