Some people may cringe and rub their arms at the mere sight of this photo. It is hard to forget the pain of injections and vaccinations that one had to endure as a child.
The syringe was invented in 1853 by Charles Gabriel Pravaz. It is a device that enables medication in liquid form to be directly injected beneath the skin and into the blood stream. Because medication injected in this way takes effect more quickly than if taken orally, the syringe has become widely used as a reasonable method of treatment for a variety of illnesses.
With the start of the 1990s, a syringe without a needle was introduced in the United States for use in vaccinations. As the use of this new syringe spreads, there will be fewer and fewer children who hate inoculations.
