The Panasonic GLOBE Theater

Matsushita Electric's Philanthropic Activities Supporting the Tokyo Globe The Tokyo Globe was designed by Arata Isozaki, and built in Shinjuku Ward in Tokyo in 1988. It is a reproduction of The Globe theater in London, where William Shakespeare lived and worked in the sixteenth century. Since its foundation, the theater has hosted many reputed theatrical troupes from around the world to provide high-quality Shakespearean and other performances. The theater is also committed to its highly-reputed original performances programs:collaborations between young and energetic producers from overseas and young Japanese actors and actresses, etc. Hoping to allow the public to enjoy performances at reasonable prices,as well as fostering the talents of young actors and actresses and producers, Matsushita has been a committed sponsor of the theater since 1991, supplying a "simultaneous interpretation system"and encouraging its employees to work as volunteers at the Tokyo Globe company's performances in Osaka. In ways such as these, Matsushita's support is comprehensive and inclusive. Matsushita received the Japan Mecenat Award '93(sponsored by the Association for Corporate Support of the Arts)for "sponsorship of the Tokyo Globe."
