They went over the Shackleton's southernmost point in a blizzard.

The South Pole was only 167km ahead. They were 3,006 meters above sea level.
From there, a road decended, but it was very difficult to pull the sleds because of the bad road conditions.

Jan. 15
Only 50km more. The temperature was lower than -30 degrees Celcius.
"It is certain that we will reach the South Pole. The only terrible matter we can expect is that the Norwegian flag has already been there."
