Jan. 4 1911
Scott and his expedition landed on the cape of Ross Island. They decided to call the cape "Cape Evans", named after the vice-captain.
They had 19 ponies, 30 dogs and motor-driven sleds.
Work on their base camp had been started. They also had a hut there, which had been built during the previous expedition, and was going to serve as their second base.

Jan. 24
They left Cape Evans to built depots for food strage.

Jan. 28 - Feb. 17
The main depot, corner camp, cliff depot and 1-ton depot were established at 79 degrees 29' South. Unfortunately, they could not reach 80 degrees South.
