Power Computing, one of the UK's biggest Amiga retailers and manufacturers, together with their German sister company M-Tec have acquired GVP's intellectual property rights.
Between them, the companies already have a huge range of hardware including the Viper A1200 accelerators, Video Backup System, High Density drives and the PowerScan 4 which is reviewed this issue. This acquisition will add a range of new hardware products. According to Power Computing's MD Tony Inari: "It's the PCMCIA sampler we were interested as well as the the A4000 boards that are in development."
The GVP products the companies have announced they intend to re-introduce to the Amiga market include the 68040 and 68060 accelerator cards for the A2000, A3000 and A4000, a PCMCIA 16-bit sound sampler, the GVP1230 A1200 accelerator, the HC8 SCSI interface and the DSS-8 sound sampler.
The companies are also formulating plans for new products based on both their existing technologies and GVP's. However, this may not mean that Power Computing will necessarily be stocking GVP products.
Toni Inari pointed out: "We've only bought the intellectual rights for manufacturing, it's up to other retailers. If they want to stock GVP products then we will supply them, if not we'll distribute them ourselves."
