1.0 - Introduction
This program was designed to perform FAST dupe checking for
situations like contests in particular. The program has a
save option in it so that you can exit and return at another
time to continue with the same dupe list. This program checks
for dupes, and that's it. It doesn't log contests, it doesn't
print a dupe sheet. It was primarily designed to go ARRLPX.BAS
one better. This program uses the same algorithm that the ABS
contesting program Contest PLUS (CNTSTPLS.EXE) uses.
1.1 - Operation
Simply type in any call (with additional duping information like
band, mode, etc.) at the > prompt. If it is not a dupe, it will
be added to the list and will return you to the > prompt. If it
was a dupe, you will be beeped and see a message flash that the
contact was a dupe. To exit, you can quit and save the list by
typing EXIT AND SAVE at the > prompt. If you don't want to save
the dupe list, type EXIT ONLY and you will go straight to DOS.
I have a program FASTLIST.EXE that will give you a dupe sheet
in sorted order. I will post it on bulletin boards if I see
contributions (mentioned below) begin to come in. This will help
in those situations where you MUST submit a dupe sheet along with
the contest log.
The program CNTSTPLS.EXE may be released into the public domain
depending upon the donations I receive. Use a donation to vote!
It does contest logging, duping, automatically calculates grey
line areas, has 6 different beam heading tables, has a changeable
geographic location file (for headings!), plus much more!
1.2 - Tips on using FASTDUPE
FASTDUPE saves the dupe list in a file called FASTDUPE.LST. If
you so choose, it is possible at the DOS level to rename this file
to something else in order to track things like WAS, DXCC, etc.,
by using different data at the > prompt. For example, to track
5BWAS, simple type NJ-80 for New Jersey on 80 meters. This is a
quick way to track data other than contest contacts.
Just prior to using FASTDUPE for a specific purpose, simple rename
the .LST file back to FASTDUPE.LST and then run FASTDUPE.EXE to
begin processing your particular list.
2.0 - Value Donation
I honestly believe that ham radio operators are one of the most
friendly and hospitable groups around. However, I also believe
that they are also one of the cheapest. Say what you will, but
this is an honest opinion made in good faith, and meant to
insult no one. I formed ABS to write business software, and found
that hams love having new exciting software in their hands as
well as any business, so I devote much of my free time to writing
ham radio software.
However, I have never seen such flagrant abuse of the U.S. Copyright
Law by any group of people before in my life. I cannot and will
not lecture about why software should be paid for, but instead
offer the following compromise. Since you probably have NO desire
to pay me for ham radio software, at least make some contribution
to a worthy cause on the premise that 'You don't get nothing for
free.' Please send a contribution of $5.00 to:
St. Jude's Childrens Hospital
c/o 358 48th Street
Brooklyn, NY 11220
Make sure to note 'WB2MAE' on the memo line of your check. Thanks.
The donation you make is tax deductible and goes to a good cause:
OUR FUTURE - OUR CHILDREN
Please note that your name will go on my mailing list for future
ABS Public Domain Ham Radio offerrings (like FASTLIST.EXE).
