Installation Instructions for the AmSoft CD-ROM
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
PREVIOUS AMSOFT CD OWNERS
If you have installed a previous issue of The World of Ham Radio there is no
need to install this CD-ROM. Do not uninstall your previous versions of the
AmSoft CD-ROM. Icons used by Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 for the AmSoft
CD-ROM do no change from issue to issue. The same Icons can be used for any
issue of "The World of Ham Radio" CD-ROM.

WIN 95 CALLSIGN PROGRAM
If you have Windows 95 go to start button select run and type the letter of
your CD-ROM drive followed by /amsoft/win95/setup.exe Or you can select
BROWSE and go to the directory /amsoft/win95 on this CD and double click
on Setup.exe

WIN95 & CDVIEW
To install CDVIEW under Windows 95 you will need to add the program
CDVIEW.EXE by using the following commands.
1. Click the Start button, and then point to Settings.
2. Click Taskbar, and then click the Start Menu Programs tab.
3. Click Add, and then click Browse.
4. Locate the CDVIEW.EXE program on your CD-ROM, and double-click it.
5. Click Next, and then double-click the menu on which you want the program
to appear.
6. Type the name that you want to see on the menu, and then click Finish.
If Windows prompts you to choose an icon, click one, & click Finish.

WIN 3.1 CALLSIGN PROGRAM
If you have never installed an AmSoft CD-ROM before, the you will want to
print and read the following instructions: Windows 3.x users should go the
CD-ROM drive letter with File Manager and find the program
AMSOFT/WIN31/SETUP.EXE to install the Windows 3.1 callsign lookup program.
This program will only search your CD by callsign.

WIN3.1 & CDVIEW
To install CDVIEW under Windows 3.x you will need to add the program
CDVIEW.EXE and it's icon CDVIEW.ICO by using the following commands.
1. Open the group window that you want to add CDVIEW to.
2. From the file menu, choose New.
3. In the New Program Object dialog box, select the PROGRAM ITEM option, and
then choose the OK button.
4. Fill in the Program Item Properties dialog box as necessary, and choose
the OK button.
5. In the Program Item Property dialog box you may choose CHANGE ICON button.
6. Scroll through the icons on your CD-ROM drive until you come to CDVIEW.ICO
highlight it and press enter, then choose OK.
7. In the Program Item Property dialog box choose the OK button. The program
may say that this is a removable drive, do you want to continue. Just say
YES to this question. For help with the Program Item Properties dialog box
choose the Help button or press F1 while using the dialog box.

DOS & CDVIEW
If you have DOS go to your CD-Drive letter, and run the program RUNME.BAT
RUNME.BAT will allow you to run the CD-ROM in a non invasive mode. (It will
not use any of your hard drive to store installation programs)

DOS & CALLSIGN
If you have DOS go to your CD-ROM Drive and run the program DOS6.BAT which
will allow you to run the CD-ROM in a non invasive mode. (It will not use any
of your hard drive to store installation programs). You may also get more
information from the file called CALLSIGN.DOC in the root of this CD-ROM.

CDVIEW GENERAL INFORMATION
CDVIEW will execute the following types of files: EXE, COM, TXT, DOC, PCX,
GIF, BMP, & ZIP. CDVIEW will not execute BAT or other file names not listed
above. To operate a BAT file such as INSTALL.BAT type INSTALL.BAT at the DOS
prompt. If you have problems with CALLSIGN.EXE while running under CDVIEW,
quit CDVIEW and operate RUNME.BAT A complete list of commands appears at the
bottom of your screen when you are running the CDVIEW program. Pressing H
will bring up the <H>elp screen with a detailed explanation of all the CDVIEW
commands and their full instructions. The Home and End keys perform special
functions when browsing directories. CDVIEW operates in the MS-DOS
environment and has been designed to operate with 8088 through Pentium
microprocessors. CDVIEW assumes you have a color monitor, if you are using
a monochrome monitor please press V after the program starts to switch to a
monochrome display output. The most important thing to remember in CDVIEW is
to use the I command. This gives you detailed <I>nformation for files you see
on your screen. You may also get more information from the file called
CDVIEW.DOC in the root of this CD-ROM.

AMCALL LOGBOOK GENERAL INFORMATION
The AmCall logbook for DOS is in the AMSOFT/DOS directory, is a complete
working version of the new AmCall for DOS logbook. To install the AmCall
Logbook for DOS you will need to XCOPY all the files from the CD-Drive
AMSOFT/DOS directory to your C:\AMSOFT directory, use the DOS command
XCOPY #:\AMSOFT\DOS\*.* C:\AMSOFT (# is the letter of your CD-Drive).
These files must not have read-only attributes. Windows users may copy
these files with file manager or winfile but will have to change the
read-only attribute to archive. You may change the various settings
in AmCall for Dos by editing the file amcall.ini with your text editor.
Please use our DOS version of the AmCall Logbook. This logbook is commercial
and copyright program. AmCall Logbook may only be used by the owner of this
CD-ROM. We are providing this software to you in the price you paid for the
CD-ROM. No further registration is necessary to use it.
AmCall Log Book works very well in Windows 95 too.
