THE PROVERBS OF SOLOMON
INTRODUCTION
"Proverbs" is a menu-driven program
that tests and increases one's knowledge of
the Old Testament book of Proverbs. The
program features interactive quizzes that
challenge your memory, and numerous textual
commentaries.
REQUIREMENTS
"Proverbs" was written to run on the
IBM PC and true compatible computer. At least
256K memory is required and 1 disk drive. The
program will work equally well on monochrome
and color monitors. Up to 9 people can
participate in the "Proverbs" quizzes at the
same time (great for competition play).
DIRECTIONS
To begin "Proverbs" insert the program
diskette into the appropriate drive. At the
DOS prompt type ---> PROVERBS , then press
[ENTER]. After "Proverbs" has been loaded,
and the title screen clears, a Main Menu will
appear. You make a selection from the Main
Menu by using the cursor control keys (arrow
keys) to position the highlighted marker bar
over your selection, then followed by the
[ENTER] key. Pressing the [ESC] will usually
return the user to the previous menu
selection.
QUIZ NO. 1
The proverbial couplet match quiz
works in the following fashion. Five portions
of scripture will scroll right to left across
the screen. The first (top) portion of
scripture will be the beginning of a proverb.
The actual Bible reference for the current
proverb will be displayed at the top of the
window. The objective is to match this "top"
first half with its matching "end" out of the
four choices which followed it. For example:
Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge:
But the mouth of the upright shall
deliver them.
But he that hateth reproof is brutish.
But the rigtheous shall flourish
as a branch.
But a man of understanding
holdeth his peace.
In the above example, choice number 2
("But he that hateth reproof is brutish") is
the correct match to "Whoso loveth
instruction loveth knowledge". To receive
credit for a correct match, the user must
position the rectangular box around the
correct match, and then press [RETURN] or
[ENTER]. Movement of the rectangular box is
accomplished by using the keyboard cursor
control keys. If an incorrect match occurs,
"Error!" will flash, along with the
appropriate correct answer. At this point the
user can press [V] to view the context of the
proverb in reference. In other words, if
Proverbs 15:14 was the proverb being
presented, pressing the [V] key will display
the entire 15th chapter of Proverbs. If the
user wishes to exit instead, then press the
[ESC] key, else any other key will cause the
program to continue on to the next proverb
match.
QUIZ NO. 2
This quiz tests one's memory of
individual proverbs (not to mention testing
one's typing and spelling ability). A
proverb is displayed on the screen, but one
word is missing. The missing word is replaced
with a string of underscores "_". Each
underscore represents a missing letter. The
user is to type in the missing word. To exit
from this quiz, press the [ESC] key.
TOP TEN SCOREBOARD
The best 10 scores from the two
types of quizzes described above are
displayed upon the close of the program in a
scoreboard format. If you would like to
wipe the board clean, then delete the
PROVERBS.SCB file.
NOTES, COMMENTARIES, HELPS
"Proverbs" is not limited to just
Bible quizzes. This program also presents
dozens of text "helps" that will provide you
with a better understanding of this very
important Old Testament book.
Each "insight" note can be selected
from a menu. Once the text is displayed on
the screen, use the cursor control keys
(arrow keys) to scroll the text. Press [ESC]
to return to the previous menu.
