o Windows version 3.1 or later. This program should run with all
Windows based operating systems including Windows for Workgroups,
Windows NT, and Windows 95.
o 2.0 megabyte (MB) of free disk space.
o A mouse.
Installation Procedures
Installing Ditto on your computer is simple. To install, follow these
steps:
1. Start the Windows application and select the Program Manager.
2. Select the run entry from the File menu item.
3. Insert the Ditto disk into the disk drive.
4. Keyin the letter of the drive that you inserted the disk into
followed by ":\setup" in the command line field. For example,
if the disk is in drive "a" you would type:
a:\setup
Next, select the OK button on the dialog box. This will cause
Ditto's setup executable to start running.
Note: Instead of running setup from the run menu entry, you also
can simply double click setup.exe from the Program Manager or
Windows Explorer.
5. The setup executable will display a dialog box with a default
directory specified in the field. If you want to install the files
in another directory, key it in in this field.
6. Select the Install button on the dialog box and the files will be
installed. If the specified directory does not exist, it will be
created for you.
7. If no errors have occurred during installation, a dialog box
claiming successful completion will be displayed when all files
have been copied and expanded.
If the installation was successful, a Sage program group will be
created in the Program Manager. This will contain the Ditto program
item. When you double click on this, Ditto will begin execution.
Online Help
Ditto's Online Help can be accessed in two different ways once it is
running:
By selecting the Help entry under the Help menu item.
By selecting the F1 key from the keyboard.
The Online Help contains information that explains all aspects of
this game and describes how to use all its functionality. This
should be the user's main source of help.
Once the Help window is displayed, the buttons near the top help you
find the information you need. The Contents button displays a list
of Help topics that Ditto provides. The Search button displays a
dialog box where you specify a topic to search for. The Back button
displays the previously viewed topic. The History button displays a
chronological list of all Help topics viewed during your current
game session.
If you need to learn how to use Help, press the F1 key on the keyboard
while the Help window is open.
Start Playing
Once Ditto is installed, start the game by double clicking the left
mouse button on the Ditto program item that was created by the setup
executable. After doing this, Ditto will begin execution by
displaying the introduction screen. To stop this introduction and
go to the main screen simply click the left mouse button.
To begin playing, select the Start entry under the Game menu item.
You can also simply select the F2 key on your keyboard. Once this
is done buttons will appear in the window and play begins.
Rules of the Game
Object of the Game
The object of the game is to score as many points as you can by
repeating the button sequence that is shown to you.
How points are scored
Each time you select the correct button in sequence you are rewarded
points. As the sequence of button selections gets longer, the amount
of points rewarded for a correct button selection increases. Also,
the more buttons that are present on the screen increases the
rewarded points.
How to play
To start the game, select the Start entry under the Game menu item.
You can also simply select the F2 key on your keyboard. Once this
is done buttons will appear in the window. After a short pause one
of the buttons will light up and the message "YOUR TURN" will
appear at the top of the window. This means that it is time for you
to select the same button that was just shown to you. If you make
the correct selection the sequence of button selections shown to
you will increase by one and you will once again be required to
repeat the button sequence just shown to you.
Types of games
There are four different types of games to choose from. These
different games can be selected under the Game Definition entry
under the Game menu item. When the 3 Buttons, 4 Buttons, or 6
Buttons game is selected, the specified number of buttons will
remain throughout the game. As you play these games, the sequence
of button selections will continue to increase by one until you
make an incorrect selection. Once you make a mistake the sequence
will start back at one and increase by one again until your next
mistake. The Progressive game is a little different. There are goals
that enable you to advance to higher levels. The goal represents
the length of a sequence that you must complete successfully to
advance to the next level. The next level represents a different
button configuration which contains one more button then the
previous level. Once you complete one goal, the number of buttons
on your screen will increase by one and the sequence length will
reset to one. When you make a mistake, the game will reset to level
one, sequence one, no matter what level or sequence you are
presently on.
Game over
Once you have made three incorrect selections the game is over. If
you have scored enough points to make the high score, the High Score
dialog box will automatically display to allow you to enter your
name.
