THE TOMB
A GAME BY NEXUS SOFTWARE
Copyright 1992
(Requires 286 or higher and VGA)
In THE TOMB, you play the part of an adventurer seeking the buried treasures
of an Egyptian Pharaoh.
To move the adventurer use the joystick or arrow keys. Joystick button one
or 'a' on the keyboard fires left. Joystick button two or 's' on the keyboard
fires right.
In order to complete levels in the tomb, it is necessary to pick up keys
and unlock locks. All of the locks must be unlocked and the level completed
within the time allotted. Your adventured may hold only one key at a time.
If a key is held, it is shown by a key displayed in the upper right corner
of the screen. When the final lock is unlocked on any level of the tomb,
the adventurer can open the final doors to reveal the treasure and proceed
to the next level.
In THE TOMB, your adventurer must avoid contact with the monsters that appear
in various parts of the tomb. When your character is struck by a monster,
you lose one life. When all of your lives are gone, the game ends. When you
are struck, but lives remain, you continue your mission at the beginning of
the level. Any keys held or doors unlocked will remain intact. Each game
consists of three lives. The difficultly level chosen at the beginning of the
game determines how quickly monsters will appear in the tomb. If the time
for level completion runs out, the adventurer cannot fire until the next
level. An alarm will sound when time gets low.
If there are many monsters, a flash bomb can be used to destroy all of
monsters currently in the tomb. Three flash bombs are provided per game.
Flash bombs are set off by pressing the space bar. An extra flash bomb
will be awarded at the completion of each level (if less than three are held).
Teleport zones can be used to enter certain areas of the tomb. These zones
are surrounded by gold pillars. If your adventurer moves between them,
he will be teleported to the opposite zone on the screen.
Score points by picking up prizes, picking up keys, or opening locks
in the tomb. Shooting monsters also scores a few points. A bonus will be
rewarded for any time remaining at the end of a level.
Sound can be disabled during game play by pressing 'q' (quiet mode toggle).
ESC aborts the program.
The program checks for the presence of a joystick when it is first
executed. It is important not to press any joystick buttons and
have the joystick centered before starting the program.
