¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢ MINUTES OF 7/12/97 ATARI CLUB¢ MEETING¢¢ July 5th was supposed to be a joint¢ meeting with members of LIAUG in¢ Suffolk but many of our members¢ couldn't attend.¢¢ Upcoming meeting dates were discussed¢ and are as follows: 8/9, 9/6(joint¢ meeting with LIAUG in Nesconset),¢ 10/18, 11/15, 12/20, and 1/17.¢¢ TREASURER'S REPORT:¢¢ Still in the black.¢¢ POTPOURRI:¢¢ There are a few new members: ARTHUR¢ KATZ (JACK read his letter to the¢ members), FRANK WALTERS, JERRY¢ GINSBURG (Honorary member).¢¢ BARBARA KELLER brought up a¢ discussion on the annual summer¢ picnic. Club members voted and the¢ final decision was to go to a Chinese¢ restaurant instead.¢¢ DEMONSTRATIONS:¢¢ ALAN SHARKIS offered a few demoes as¢ follows:¢¢ 1. T.W.A.U.G. (the British group)¢ Issue #27 Disk side 2 is curiosity -¢ side 1 has various games, guitar¢ tutor, and it alphabetizes a disk¢ directory. We tried the guitar tutor¢ part of the disk with the F sharp¢ minor chord - shows the bar and frets¢ and makes the sound, you can do each¢ string individually (great for¢ learning and practicing guitar¢ chords). We also tried the¢ alphabetizing of a disk directory¢ (it's very slow). We also tried a¢ couple of games. There is also a¢ game called, "Bounce." You draw lines¢ on a black screen with the joystick,¢ place several "balls," and set them¢ bouncing. The screen turns red, each¢ ball's path covers the screen¢ eventually turning it black, but¢ along the way you can create many¢ different interesting designs. We¢ also played a Wumpus game where you¢ battle an invisible Wumpus who¢ becomes more visible the closer you¢ get until he devours you (you know¢ you're getting closer when the music¢ gets louder) he looks like a mouth¢ when he suddenly appears. Side 2 of¢ the T.W.A.U.G. disk includes a¢ debugging program. (Library #690)¢¢ 2. ALAN then demoed a Macro¢ Assembler Editor disk writtenby John¢ Harris from Univ. of Michigan¢ archives. The directory includes¢ many programs (64 or 80 columns) such¢ as "Create a File" using Control 1 to¢ start and Control 3 to¢ finish.(Library #691) ALAN posed the¢ question, "What about writing¢ routines in Basic that use machine¢ language to speed up routines?" ALAN¢ also posed the question, "Was this¢ from the original Atari Assembler?" ¢ Pat Mulvey, our resident expert in¢ Assembler Language, answered the¢ questions.¢¢ Discussion then centered around ¢ lightning and how to protect your¢ computer with many good but expensive¢ suggestions made. Pat Mulvey, our¢ resident expert in lightning¢ protection, led the discussion.¢¢ 3. Next ALAN demoed another¢ Mindsweeper #2 game not to be¢ included in the library.¢¢ 4. ALAN then demoed 09 Sept & 010¢ Nov) disks from San Leandro, CA, SLCC¢ 1409/1410 DOS. A game called¢ "Brikbat"(a game like "Pong") on one¢ side. The other side has "Foot Race¢ Dance" on disk #09(Library #666). ¢ Disk #10 (Library #667)has a card¢ game on side one and a pipeline¢ (plumbers) game on side two.¢¢ 5. Disk 1296 (Library #668)from¢ NOSAUG was ALAN's next demo which has¢ lots of fonts on it for Basic¢ programs. The other side is all¢ Christmas music.¢¢ 6. Next ALAN demoed a disk from¢ NOSAUG (Library #669), an air hockey¢ game.¢¢ Next meeting date is August 9th.¢¢ o=o=o=o=o=¢¢¢¢
