¢MINUTES AUG. 1990 MEETING¢¢¢¢ GENERAL MEETING:¢¢¢¢ The OL' HACKERS AUGUST 11th meeting¢was really back to normal again with¢ALEX PIGNATO running the show. He¢quickly deemed the August meeting¢would consist of Demo's, Demo's,¢Demo's and Demo's or you might say it¢was a "How To" meeting. ¢ After having postponed his demo one¢month JACK GEDALIUS was biting at the¢bit to get started, so he jumped right¢into the swim. Using "PRINT AND DRAW"¢program and an old friend the ATARI¢1020 PLOTTER, he produced a BANNER,¢PIE CHART, CASTLE, BI-PLANE and¢CHRISTMAS TREE. In addition he typed a¢message changing the colors, fonts and¢in another message, real small print¢(try reading that). ¢ Then JOEL GEDALIUS, JACK'S seven¢year old son, took over with a¢childrens program "ATARI IN¢WONDERLAND". Food problems such as¢"PIZZA PIE" and HAMBURGER" produced¢math quiz's, to be solved. ¢ ALEX up next, lead the group through¢one of his all time favorites,¢"FINGERS BAS", an autoload command¢program, to get to "SCREEN PRINT".¢This then led to "COLOR TEST.BAS" for¢checking and adjusting the colors on¢your monitor.¢ Then "LABELPRT.BAS" to make labels¢for your disk jacket and it has a neat¢directory from GERMANY. Another¢excellent modification is that you can¢check the directory before printing. ¢¢ POTPOURRI:¢¢ ALEX first reviewed the activities¢at the annual picnic held last Sunday.¢Great Weather, Great Friends, Good¢Food and Good Drink, about says it¢all. A throw back to the old days,¢spending an afternoon in the park. ¢ Moving indoors ALEX then announced¢that the annual CHRISTMAS DINNER would¢be the first Tuesday in December, that¢is the Fourth of December, 1990, to be¢exact. Mark your calender now so you¢wont forget! Tiffany's Restaurant in¢Bellmore at this time is again the¢first choice. HORST DEWITZ again will¢make our arrangements. ¢ Our disk newsletter isn't due out¢until next month so ALEX read the July¢minutes to the members. They were¢accepted as read. ¢ There has been an increase of¢members borrowing other club¢newsletters to read (could it be ALAN¢SHARKIS' writing a review highlighting¢subjects that wet their appetite?).¢ ALAN reminded the members to have a¢list of children and ages that will be¢coming to the October 13th EDUCATIONAL¢and FUN meeting.¢¢ DOOR PRIZES:¢ Again, like so many times in the¢past, visitors to the OL' HACKERS¢meetings came up as winners.¢¢ GAMES w/TURBO includes GINA BRYANT¢ TETRIX & OTHELLO¢¢ GAMES w/TURBO includes JACK¢GEDALIUS¢ TETRIX & OTHELLO¢¢ GERMAN DISK,N.WEST AL ATKINS¢ PHOENIX plus SOUND¢¢ GERMAN DISK,N.WEST H. TUTHILL¢ PHOENIX plus SOUND¢¢ ELECTRONIC GAMING MIKE BRYANT¢ MAGAZINE #11¢¢ GAME PLAYERS MAGAZINE JOEL¢GEDALIUS¢¢¢ DEMONSTRATIONS:¢¢ Back to the demos, this time ALEX¢pulled out "CLOCK.BAS", (clock &¢digital) source ANALOG #63 August,¢1988. Besides the time of day, you can¢set up to eleven seperate alarms, and¢they chime the proper number of times¢too!¢ MIKE BRYANT was asked to run "Funny¢DOS" and having never used it, the¢results were very surprising to him.¢Run Cartridge, it ran across the¢screen, Write DOS, the screen is¢filled with write dos, Define Device,¢the webster dictionary explanation¢appears on the screen, etc., etc.. ¢ Did you ever see "TETRIX" run with¢"TURBO BAS"? We did when ALEX added¢"TURBO BAS" to the Russian game¢"TETRIX". Some difference, quick moves¢by the blocks keeps you on your toes.¢That TURBO program really enhances and¢speeds BASIC programs. Next came¢"TOFORMAT.BAS" it formats disks and¢numbers the quantity done. By using¢the odd or even number of disks done,¢ALEX can keep a count of the number of¢disks completed. The program will do¢single and enhanced density¢formatting.¢ ALEX verbally reviewed some articles¢in newsletters from around the country¢that have reprinted OL'HACKER'S¢articles and others of interest to the¢members. OL' HACKER'S articles that¢have made their way into recent¢newsletters were "ME AND MY HARD¢DRIVE" by ALEX, "OKIMATE PRINTER" by¢ALAN SHARKIS and "SWITCHER" reviewed¢by JOSEF LEBER. Our newsletter library¢has been growing lately and contains¢some crackerjack P.D] programs. For¢the second month "MASKMAKER", by JOAN¢RYAN, was again reviewed for those not¢present at the July meeting. All kinds¢of possibilities exist for fun and¢games using this program. ¢ Then "P/S UTILITIES" from ST LOUIS,¢ACE, which included new icons for¢viewing and customizing. On the flip¢side, PRINT SHOP ICONS, from NAPCO.¢ Next "MATH QUIZ" written by ALEX for¢children all ages. Changing the¢difficulty of the math examples is a¢simple program change, to two lines.¢JOEL GEDALIUS who had been answering¢the math problems was soon joined by¢LAURA BRYANT, TAURA BRYANT and KAURA¢BRYANT (MIKES 3 girls, all of them¢dolls, & smart!), working, all answers¢came up right. ¢ ALAN SHARKIS wrapped up the demos¢with a SPARTA DOS program "BETAMENU" a¢loaded memory resident SPARTA DOS¢program.¢¢ 1. Typing a drive number will¢produce a directory.¢ 2. All arrow keys are activated for¢choices you make.¢ 3. If not enough room to list all¢the files on your disk.¢ 4. Hit "P" for next page.¢ 5. Hit return on something that is¢listed and it will run.¢ 6. A sort can be made alphabetically¢on the screen.¢ 7. Program will work with Sparta DOS¢2.+ or 3.+ but will not work with X-¢CARTRIDGE or the older SPARTA DOS'.¢¢ FUTURE MEETING DATES:¢¢ Future meeting dates for the OL'¢HACKERS ATARI USER GROUP are:¢¢ OCTOBER 13, 1990 MARCH 9, 1991¢ NOVEMBER 10, 1990 APRIL 13, 1991¢ DECEMBER 15, 1990 MAY 11, 1991¢ JANUARY 12, 1991 JUNE 1, 1991¢ FEBRUARY 9, 1991¢¢ All dates are SATURDAY and are¢scheduled for the PLAINVIEW/OLD¢BETHPAGE LIBRARY.¢¢ Remember........the next OL' HACKERS¢ATARI USER GROUP meeting is scheduled¢for SEPTEMBER 15th, at 11:30pm.¢¢ Sincerely,¢¢ AL ATKINS¢¢ SCOOP AND LATE BYTE:¢¢ None of the members had received the¢latest copy of ANTIC MAGAZINE due¢AUGUST 1st. All¢subscriptions are to be extended by¢one issue.¢ ¢
