2) About Chaos Gate:
WARHAMMER 40,000: CHAOS GATE is a squad level tactical combat simulation that is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. In the game the Ultramarines, lead by Captain Kruger, undertake a perilous campaign against the traitorous forces of Chaos. WARHAMMER 40,000: CHAOS GATE can be played as an ongoing campaign, a series of single missions, as a randomly generated mission, or in head-to-head action over a Local Area Network (LAN) or via a TCP/IP Internet connection. WARHAMMER 40,000: CHAOS GATE also comes with a Scenario Builder that enables the creation of custom and randomly generated combat missions.
3) About the demo:
The demo is a single mission, with the objective of killing all the enemy Chaos Marines and Chaos Cultists. You have one Devastator squad armed with Bolters , Heavy Bolters and a small selection of grenades.
4) What you get in the full version of the game:
In addition to the units that are found in the Demo, the full version of the game also has Tactical, Assault and Terminator squads and individual units like Librarians, Apothocarys, Tech Marines, Chaplains, and Captain Kruger himself. Extra grenades include Vortex, Stasis, Rad, Anti-Plant, and Haywire. The weapons selection includes Rocker Launchers, Auto Cannons, Flamers, Plasma Guns, Melta Guns, Lascannons, Power Fists, Chain Swords, Lightning Claws, and much more. Drive Predators and Landspeeders, eradicate foes with your Dreadnought, select from 22 Psyker Powers, kill Khorne Berzerkers, Chaos Champions, Sorcerers, and a variety of Daemons, as you play through the Ultramarine campaign.
5) Installing the Game:
After the Demo has been downloaded and unzipped, you will have a folder called Chaos-Setup. Open the folder, double click on the Setup.exe, and then follow the prompts in the Install Wizard.
Play the Demo through the Start menu in windows, under Programs - Chaos Gate Demo
6) Playing the Demo:
To simplify learning the interface, all buttons in the game have hot text that appears when you pass the cursor over them, which says what the button is for and what the hot key (if any) is. At the main menu, click on the Play Demo button. You will find yourself at the Cathedral Bridge, which has four hot spots to click on. Start by clicking on the screen with the green writing to get your mission briefing. After reading it, click on the skull to go back to the Cathedral Bridge. Now the door at the far right (Configure Squads) is highlighted and can be entered. Or the door on the far left (Options) can be entered. Go into Options if you want to exit the game or restart the Demo. The door on the center right only works in the full version of the game and is for configuring vehicles.
Entering the door on the far right will take you to the load out screen, where your five units can be outfitted with weapons, grenades and med kits. You can cycle through your squad by clicking on their portraits or by using the arrow keys at the bottom of the screen. The box on the right is the weapons locker and the box on the left is the selected unit's inventory. Clicking on an item in the weapons locker places that item on the selected unit and clicking on an item on the selected unit places it back in the weapons locker. The ammo clip in the large box at the top of the unit inventory is the clip that is loaded in that unit's weapon. There are three tabs on the side of the weapons locker, each of which will take you to a different selection of items. The Character's name can be edited by clicking on it, typing in a new name and pressing Enter. Exiting this screen through the doors on the right will take you back to the Cathedral Bridge. Now the "Enter Battle" door on the center left will be highlighted. Go through it to start the demo.
To select a unit, left click on it or click on the Next Unit button until the unit you want is selected. You can group select units by left clicking and holding down the button to draw a square over the units and then releasing the button or by holding down the Ctrl button while left clicking on the units. To move a unit, left click on the desired location. A path will appear, and left clicking on the destination a second time will move the unit. Right click anywhere on the map to rotate a unit to face that direction. Toggle between the ballistic weapon and melee weapon by clicking on their icons on the main interface. Placing the cursor over an enemy changes it to a targeting cursor which displays the following numbers:
A/B
C
D
Where
-A is the percentage chance to hit,
-B is the percentage chance to penetrate armor,
-C is the number of action points needed to fire the currently selected weapon, and
-D is the distance to the target, measured in cells. Left click on the target to fire. Grenades and Med Kits are accessed by using the inventory button. When the inventory screen is up, clicking on an item will activate the action button, which will allow the item to be used.
7) Button explanations:
Next Unit/Next Enemy - These buttons cycle you through the appropriate units. Right clicking on these buttons cycles the other way.
Aimed Shot - Doubles the Action Points needed to fire the weapon, but will greatly improve the chance to hit an enemy who is partially covered.
Direct Fire - Allows you to target terrain, or fire into smoke clouds.
Walk - Moving takes your unit three Action Points per cell.
Run - Moving takes your unit two Action Points per cell, but if that unit fires the same turn that it was running, it gets a penalty on its "To Hit" percentage.
Crouch/Stand - A crouched unit can take advantage of low cover and terrain. It takes two Action Points to kneel and two to stand.
Overwatch - If a unit is in Overwatch and has enough Action Points to fire one or more shots, then on the AI's turn, the unit will fire on any enemy units that walk into its line of fire. It will continue to fire until the enemy is dead or it is out of Action Points.
Rally/Formation Movement - Only works when units are group selected and moved. In Rally, the units will all try to move as close to the destination point as possible. In Formation, the units will arrive at the destination in the same formation they started in.
9) Winning the Demo:
You win when all your enemies lay slain before your might!
