- CAUTION: If you DO NOT have a video card with an NCR Chipset,
- installing SOFTMODE.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS file will
- lock-up your machine. You will have to have a BOOT DISK
- to regain control so you can remove the SOFTMODE.SYS
- command from the CONFIG.SYS file.

- To install the SOFTMODE.SYS vesa driver in your CONFIG.SYS, do the following:

- 1. Copy the SOFTMODE.SYS file to the root directory
- on your boot drive.

- 2. Add the following line to your config.sys file:

- DEVICE=SOFTMODE.SYS /M:12 /V

- 3. You must reboot your computer to install the driver.

- 4. If your computer locks up and does not return control
- to you, insert a bootable diskette into your floppy drive
- and reboot. Then remove the SOFTMODE.SYS command from your
- CONFIG.SYS file.
