Backstory

In the not too distant future, a virulent plague threatens civilization and a countdown to full-scale invasion has begun. A heretofore unknown race of Aliens has established a secret colony on the outskirts of your home town. Only after reports of missing persons escalated in the vicinity of their colony did officials discover the scourge. Government intelligence has limited information, but has determined through numerous encounters with the Aliens, that their intentions are purely hostile. The Aliens' sole objective seems to be world domination at the expense of the human population. Countless attempts at destroying the Alien brood have failed. Scientists who have studied the Aliens behavior believe that the colony can best be characterized as a hive. Attempts at destroying the Hive have failed because much like a society of bees, scientists believe a Queen is at the heart of the system.

The Queen lives. She is too well protected by the single-minded community of Aliens. The Aliens' sole purpose is to perpetuate the species by protecting the Queen and ensuring her continuous production of eggs. Eggs hatch larvae, which are naturally programmed to seek nourishment to survive and mature. Unfortunately, humans are the most plentiful resource to feed hungry new alien larvae. Once gorged on human, the larvae return to the collective to finish their development from larvae to pupa to adult. Adult drones patrol the Hive, protecting and guiding new generations of larvae and eliminating any threats to the Queen. Evidence shows that at maturity, Aliens often surface and raid the nearest human population to bring back food for their young and the Queen. Beyond the obvious tragic daily loss of human life, scientists are concerned about the estimated explosion in Alien population. At its current rate, the Hive will be an unstoppable stronghold in a few weeks. At that point, the Aliens will have the power to launch a final invasion and decimate the Earth once and for all.

In no uncertain terms, you are the world's last chance for survival. You're the only remaining Alien Special Ops(ASO) veteran trained in extermination and counter-invasion operations. Your ASO comrades have all failed, but their efforts have provided valuable intelligence making you the best prepared ASO Exterminator to date. Your mission: To infiltrate the Hive, exterminate all Aliens, rescue any humans left alive, and ultimately destroy the Queen. You carry with you the hope of all humanity.

Play begins on the roof of Stoll Chemical, a chemical processing plant that provided the infrastructure for the Hive's construction. Intelligence reports that the Hive extends through all floors of the chemical processing plant and probably through several subterranean levels - newly excavated by the Aliens to secure the Queen.

System Requirements

Invasion was designed to play on the widest variety of Palm OS® compatible devices in use to date. It requires:

Broad compatibility demanded that Invasion graphics be based on 2-bit (4 shades) grayscale displays(supported on all Palm OS® v3.0+ devices). Invasion will run in grayscale mode on both grayscale and color devices. Color graphics may be added to future releases.

Devices that meet Invasion requirements include Palm III™ series, V™ series, m100™ series, and m500™ series devices, Handspring Visor™ series, IBM Workpad™ series, HandEra TRGpro™, and Sony CLIE™ series, and other devices that support Palm OS® software v3.0 and higher.

*This is an estimate based on the application (Invasion140.prc) plus space for a saved game and the level database(InvasionLevelxx.pdb) being played. The average size of a level database is 25KB, so about 650KB is required to install the application and ALL the databases. This is a convenient option if space is available, but is not required to play Invasion.

Back to contents

Installation

To install Invasion, you must have the Palm™ Desktop organizer software installed and running on a PC or Mac. HotSync® the Invasion files to your Palm OS® compatible handheld (follow your Palm™ Desktop software instructions on how to perform an install HotSync® operation). The files required to play Invasion depend on whether you are just evaluating Invasion or have registered.

Files for Demo Evaluation (Unregistered User):
Invasion is shareware, so we encourage you to evaluate it thoroughly before purchase. As an unregistered user you are entitled to a small fraction of first level play for evaluation. We hope that you have fun playing and will agree that Invasion is a high quality gaming experience. When you are satisfied with the demo, you must become a registered user to finish Level 1 and descend through all ten levels to confront the Queen. To begin evaluating Invasion, you only have to install two files to your Palm OS® handheld:

  Filename

Palm OS® Memory
Required(KB):

Invasion Application:

Invasion140.prc
364 (+ 30 for a Saved Game)
Level 1 Database:
InvasionLevel01.pdb

Total:
423

Becoming a Registered User:
After playing through the demo, we are sure you'll want to continue the adventure and save the world! Becoming a registered user is very easy and you will have unlimited access to all 10 exciting levels of play. Also, as a registered user you will be entitled to update information and any future revisions to Invasion at no cost.
To purchase and register Invasion, all you'll need is your HotSync User Name (aka Palm User Name). If you don't know what your HotSync User Name is, it is provided in Invasion's registration form. To get your HotSync User Name, launch Invasion like most Palm OS® applications, by tapping the icon labeled "Invasion" from the Applications screen. Upon launch, Invasion's title screen should appear.

Title Screen:

To access the registration form, tap the menu silkscreen button. Tap the 'Help' menu then 'Register...' to access the registration information.
Example registration forms:
:
By tapping the 'HotSync User Name' button or 'Handlogic User Code' button you can toggle between your handheld's HotSync User Name and your corresponding Handlogic User Code(HUC). You will NOT need to know your HUC unless you need support from Handlogic. With your Hotsync User Name available, please visit www.handlogic.com for instructions on how to purchase Invasion. After puchase, you will receive a Registration Code within 1-2 business days hours to gain full access to Invasion. When you receive your Registration Code, return to the Registration form and enter it in the space provided (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Type the registration code exactly as specified and be sure to double check it before tapping the 'OK' button).

Files for Full Game Play (Registered User):
The main Invasion application plus space for a saved game requires approximately 400KB and each level is about 25KB. So to install Invasion and all 10 levels at once requires approximately 650KB of free memory. However, you don't have to install all 10 levels at once. You are only required to install the current level of play which means a memory requirement of about 425KB (see below).

Additional Level database files available to registered users for full game play:

Conserving Memory:
To conserve memory, you have the option of installing only the current level of play to your handheld. Whenever a level is completed and you try to descend, Invasion will search the installed databases for the new level. If the new level is not detected, you will be prompted to install it. Exit the game and install the new level (at this point the completed level and the new level database must both be installed on the device). When you return to the game, you will be allowed to descend to the new level. You must save the game on the new level if you want to delete the completed level. Once the new level is saved, you can exit the game and delete the completed level database from memory. You may always reinstall it later from your desktop computer if you choose to play again.

Menus

To access the following menu items, tap the menu silkscreen button when Invasion's title screen is displayed.

Options

Game Settings...

Customize the Invasion game environment to your preferences.
Note: The 'Game Settings...' menu can also be accessed during gameplay by pausing the game and tapping the 'Game Settings...' button.

Skip Cell Performance Reports:
A check in this box means that you will not be updated with a performance report every time you complete a Hive cell. You may not be interested in such frequent reports. You will still get a performance report at the end of each level and at game end regardless of this setting.
Automatic Ammo Switching:
A check in this box means ammo cartridges are automatically switched to the next available ammo once a cartridge is emptied. If deselected, you must manually switch ammo when a cartridge is empty. This is a personal preference.
Endless Blaster Charges:
A check in this box means you will never run out of blaster charges. Other types of ammunition are still limited. This mode of play is easier than the default limited blaster charge clip, which must be judiciously managed. For a greater challenge deselect this option.
Weaken Aliens:
A check in this box means that your enemies are more vulnerable to your attacks than you are to theirs, making game play easier.
Volume:
Tap the corresponding volume level button to change game sound volume.
New game starts on:
If you are a registered user, you have the option of starting a game on any level. However, during that game you will be unable to visit the levels you skipped and may miss key opportunities for power-up items and ammo. For example, if you decide to start on Level 8, you will not be able to visit Levels 1-7 during that same game. You can use this feature to scout around levels at will, but a true game of Invasion starts with Level 1.
Game Speed on this Device:
Game speed is reported to indicate the performance level capable on your particular handheld. Due to computing limitations of some Palm OS® compatible devices, game speed performance may not be optimal. Invasion calibrates itself to your handheld to maintain the fastest possible game speed. Calibration occurs mostly in the first couple cells of each new level played. During calibration, there may be a brief interruption in sound. If game speed seems to have slowed too much, you can force a recalibration by tapping the game speed rating (e.g. "Good").
Tap swatch to adjust gray levels:
On some monochrome handheld models you can adjust grayscale levels. By adjusting the shades of gray along with your device's contrast control, you can optimize screen clarity for a more enjoyable experience given the limitations of some LCD technologies. You should rarely need to adjust grayscale this way however, the best clarity can usually be achieved by merely adjusting the contrast control on your handheld. The ambient light of your environment has a big affect on visibility too, check your handheld's manual for recommendations.
Note: Changing grayscale levels in the Game Settings menu only affects Invasion graphics.

Tap the 'OK' button when you are satisfied with the Game Settings selected. Invasion will be configured to your selections.

Tap the 'Cancel' button to abort changes and return Invasion to it's previous game settings.

Game Management

Start a New Game: To start a new game, tap the 'Start New Game' button from the Title screen.
Pausing Game: To pause the game during play, tap anywhere on the screen while engaging the Aliens in a Hive cell.
Quit Game: During game play, the device's silkscreen buttons are disabled and all hardware buttons are dedicated to game functions. To quit while engaged in combat in a Hive cell, first pause the game with a screen tap. Continue quitting by tapping the 'Quit' button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. In addition, you are given an opportunity to quit and/or save after a Hive cell has been completed. To quit without saving, tap the 'Quit' button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. When quitting a game, the Title screen is displayed. When the Title or High Score screen is displayed, the devices hardware and silkscreen buttons can be used to launch other applications.
Save Game: You are allowed to save games once immediately after destroying all the Aliens in a new Hive cell. After a Hive cell is complete and before choosing an exit, tap the 'Save' button in the lower right corner of the screen. Only one saved game is allowed, so when a new game is saved the previously saved game is lost, replaced with the latest save. You will be prompted before a previously saved game is overwritten. A saved game can be restored by tapping the 'Restore Saved Game' button on the Title screen.

Note: After a HotSync®, your previously saved game is backed up to a file named 'InvasionSavedGame-HLin.PDB' in your Palm™ backup folder. A lost saved game can be recovered by installing the 'InvasionSavedGame-HLin.PDB' to your handheld. Optionally, if you want to preserve several saved games on your computer for future play, copy the 'InvasionSavedGame-HLin.PDB' in your Backup directory for the game you want to preserve. Rename it so that during the next HotSync® operation it isn't confused with the current 'InvasionSavedGame-HLin.PDB'. When, if ever, you decide to play that particular saved game again, rename it back to 'InvasionSavedGame-HLin.PDB' and install it on your device.

Game Play: Entering a New Hive Cell

Example first cell:

Every time you enter a new Hive cell, you may be confronted by hostile aliens, aliens fleeing to escape, or captive humans waiting for a hero to save them.

Controls

When in combat with the Aliens in a Hive cell, use the buttons for control. These controls are fully customizable. The defaults are:

Function Button
Move Left Date
Move Right Address
Force Field On Scroll Down
Gas Mask On Scroll Up
Switch Ammo To Do
Fire Memo
Pause Game Screen Tap w/ Pen

Status Panel

Continuously monitor the status panel at the top of the screen for current game play statistics.

The status display gives you a quick look at vital information including:

Health Status:
Represented by a heart-shaped icon and a percentage, you can get an instant assessment of your condition. When your health reaches 0%, you are dead.

Good: You are in good health
Poor: You are in poor health
Poisoned: You are suffering from a venom attack. Without serum to counteract the effects, you will soon die.
Gassed: You are choking in gas. Use your gas mask or suffocate.

Ammo Status:
You carry a blaster rifle with a universal cartridge loader that accepts a variety of lethal ammo, some developed especially for your new enemy. As you progress through the game, there are opportunities to find more. You will discover cartridges left behind by your brave predecessors who met their fate during previous attempts to kill the Queen. In addition, Aliens have also been known to steal ammo and supplies during some of their surface raids. A representative icon indicates which cartridge you currently have locked and loaded (see Inventory screen for all ammo icons). The number next to the icon shows the ammo left in your cartridge followed after a forward slash by the maximum ammo allowed in that cartridge.

Blaster Charge: These are standard issue. They are quick to fire, but do limited damage. They are most effective against fast-moving larvae. When a "*" is indicated in the Status Panel, you have configured Invasion for Endless Blaster Charges.
Napalm Cluster: These are balls of flaming jelly. The projectiles are slower to fire than Blaster Charges, but do twice the damage.
Polari: Named after the North Star by its developers, this projectile is a packet of energy which looks like a shooting star as it slices through victim after victim. Polari energy is not dissipated when a target is hit, so multiple targets can take damage if in line with its trajectory. Polari take longer to fire, but travel as fast as blaster charges and do much more damage to multiple targets.
Grenade: Simply grenades designed for launching from your blaster rifle. Grenades are quick to shoot and do high damage, but are essentially lobbed from your rifle and travel slow. In addition, grenades can be remotely detonated with a second squeeze of the rifle trigger. Timing detonations can significantly improve the grenades killing potential. IMPORTANT: Do not use grenades against targets at close range. The blast from a grenade will do damage to everything nearby, including you!
Banshee: Research on captive Aliens led to the development of this weapon. Alien physiology makes them particularly vulnerable to high amplitude/low frequency sound waves. These projectiles are slow to fire because of the energy required to produce each shot. They do high damage and plow a wide path of destruction. Unfortunately the natural resonance of an Alien closely matches that of humans so like any weapon, avoid shooting captive humans. IMPORTANT: Inorganic objects in the Hive are unaffected by Banshee, so Aliens can hide behind crates and other man-made structures to protect themselves.
Formula D: Also a result of research on captive Aliens, this cartridge contains liquid specially formulated to generate a maximally violent reaction with the Aliens. It is the ultimate pesticide and dubbed "Formula Death" by its development team. Blaster rifles are fitted with an atomizer that can spray an ionized cloud of Formula Death. The charged nature of a Formula D cloud makes it possible to affect its trajectory via an electric field generated by the blaster rifle. Formula D's are slow to fire and slow to move, essentially floating towards the enemy. However, they can be guided towards an elusive target. IMPORTANT: Like Banshees, inorganic objects in the Hive are unaffected by this pesticide.
Draco: Draco is a punishing lawgiver. You can carry only one, and that's all you'll need to level most every living thing in a Hive Cell. Caution is advised however, because Draco doesn't distinguish between captive humans and Alien scourge. To prevent accidental usage of this most powerful weapon, you must fire it repeatedly. This engages an audible countdown which after a brief delay, will finally launch a Draco! IMPORTANT: Like Banshees and Formula D's, inorganic objects in the Hive are unaffected by a Draco attack.

Gas Mask Status:

Gas Mask On: Indicates that you've activated your gas mask and while the icon is present, you are protected from any toxic gasses.

Your Enemy

ASO Exterminators have been able to collect some intelligence about the Hive to aid you in your mission. A handful of Aliens have been captured and dissected for study. Scientists know the development stages of the Aliens mimic those of many insects. Research has shown that Aliens start life in eggs that hatch larvae. At birth, larvae must find food or die, they either surface to feed on unwary humans in the outlying communities of the Hive, or depend on more mature pupae or drones to bring back human captives for immediate or future consumption. Human captives not immediately devoured are drugged with venom to immobilize and preserve them. Humans in this state can be revived, but it's feared that most humans meet their fate shortly after capture. The following list of Aliens is the result of intelligence gathered to date and is not meant to be a comprehensive list of what you will encounter: Beware.

Scrubs: Scrubs are small amoeba-like creatures that cohabit the Hive to feed on parasitic microorganisms. From past conquests, the Aliens have learned to take precautions against introducing their fragile immune systems to foreign bacterial and viral attacks. They use scrubs as counteragents to any indigenous parasites that might pose a threat. They work endlessly, feeding on microbes and sanitizing the Hive. You're no microbe, but contact with these creatures should be avoided. Their outer membrane is coated with a toxin that chemically burns flesh.

Worms: These are huge parasites that the Aliens tolerate because they help guard the Hive and they survive on virtually nothing. Worms need little nurishment which they can absorb through their skin from hatched egg residue, dead bodies, and even some of the chemicals being cooked up in Stoll research labs.

Orbs: Orb patrols are an extra security measure. Orbs are vigilant sentries, never blinking, always on the lookout for intruders. Scientists theorize that the orbs have a telemetric neural link to the Queen. She sees all through them and can monitor the Hive from the safety of her underground lair. Try to destroy orbs quickly, the Queen will get a bead on you instantly and send the orb rolling. When the orb is within range of you, she'll trigger a massive glaucoma-like reaction, bursting the orb. Its exposed innards react violently with oxygen and ignite in a hail of fire. The Queen will lose an eye, but you might lose your life.
Eggs: Individual eggs give birth to a single larvae. Because the egg is without a nest, it has not been properly incubated and can sometimes hatch mutated larvae. TIP: Don't waste a lot of precious ammo trying to destroy an egg, making it hatch prematurely. If you have the time, be patient, allow it to hatch naturally, and blast the newborn.
Egg Nests: These are a group of Alien eggs clustered together, from which can hatch multiple larvae. A more mature Alien is usually nearby to provide protection and guidance to new larvae.
Larvae: Eggs hatch larvae, the first stage in the Aliens' life cycle. Larvae will flee danger and will try to escape through a nearby door, hole, or crack in the floor during an assault. You must be quick to destroy them all. Allow no larvae to escape, they are escaping to feed on unwary humans at the surface or captive humans in the Hive.
Mutant Larvae: Mutant larvae are a particularly dangerous strain of larvae that mostly lack the instinct to escape and will attack instead.
Larvae Sacks: Sometimes eggs hatch multiple larvae at once. These larvae groups have the benefit of a mucus membrane which binds them and adds extra protection. They will move as one until out of danger, then they will break free of the membrane sack and feed independently.
Pupae: Pupae are adolescent Aliens and are therefore weaker enemies than the adults. They have developed the instinct to protect the Hive however, and will attack on sight.

Drones: Drones appear to be fully developed adult Aliens, but scientists theorize that there may be future stages in the Aliens' life cycle. Even if Drones are not fully developed, they are formidable opponents and can sometimes attack in multiple ways.
Insane Exterminators: Prior to your attempt, a virtual army of ASO Exterminators has tried and failed. Unfortunately, many of these brave men have met a fate worse then death. By injecting a small quantity of their immobilizing venom, the Aliens can effectively create a raving lunatic out of the most stable of heroes. This means that you may encounter a comrade during your raid of the Hive who is doing the Aliens' bidding and is hell bent on your destruction. Death is his only cure and he will thank you for it.
Mega-Drones: Based on vague reports from rare encounters with the Aliens, a few scientists believe that some Drones are not finished maturing. These Drones eventually develop into more powerful creatures if given the chance. With the data at hand, scientists believe that a limited population of these "Mega-Drones" exist and they are probably utilized at key locations in the Hive to provide maximum protection to the Queen.

The Royal Guard: The Hive exists to nurture and protect the Queen. Scattered reports from former ASO operatives and extracted human captives paint a grim picture for any hopes of getting to the Queen in one piece. Information suggests that uniquely powerful creatures are positioned on each level of Stoll Chemical to prevent exterminators from descending to the next floor. Rumors include a crab-like creature which severs men in two with a pinch of its claws, a fire-breathing dragon, and a ghostly Mega-Drone which materializes only to slaughter its prey, and more. Your superiors warn you to prepare for one on each level of the Hive.

The Queen: No intelligence available. Needless to say, she'll be most formidable.

Game Play: Hive Cell Complete

A Hive cell is complete when you have destroyed all the resident Aliens or they have successfully fled to safety. Upon cell completion, you search the cell for supplies. You are also given health and progress reports(optional), an opportunity to check and use your inventory, and asked to choose the next cell to explore.

Finding Supplies/Health Alerts

After a cell is completed, you automatically search it and may find useful items and ammo, and you may be alerted to poor health conditions.

Example:

Found Items:
On your way to destroy the Queen, you will find items which you need to succeed in your mission. These are:

Med Pak: These can be used to recover your health. Be certain before entering a Hive cell that your health is at a sufficient level. Once in a cell and fighting, there is no time to use a Med Pak. Use a Med Pak by tapping it's icon in the Inventory screen.
Access Cards: Stoll Chemical, which the Aliens infested, was a high security building and some doors may not be accessible without a corresponding security card. Security cards are designated by the level they access (1 through 4).
Gas Mask Filters: You are equipped with a chemical cartridge respirator. The heart of this device is a canister containing an activated carbon filter that removes most organic and inorganic compounds you'll encounter. This gas mask provides protection for a limited time before the filter is saturated and needs replacement. Alien biology is so foreign, most of what their body produces reacts negatively with humans. Therefore, poorly ventilated Hive cells rich with Alien waste are particularly dangerous. Hive cells with standing clouds of gas produced from Alien dung can reach lethal concentrations. Chemists have determined that a concentration of 20 parts per million or more creates an atmosphere that kills. Fortunately, the S.A.M.I. unit will automatically warn you when these gases are detected in a Hive cell before you enter. You can enter a cell without a gas mask, but you'll be choking and will have to clear the cell quickly.
Serum: A serum has been developed to revive human captives which have been immobilized for future consumption by the Aliens. The serum is an antidote to the Alien venom and is required to rescue cocooned humans. Also, Aliens may try to immobilize you with venom and serum will be needed to counteract their assault. Make sure you have a generous supply so that you can save humans and yourself at every opportunity. Sometimes, rescued humans can be helpful. To cure yourself of venom, you must first complete the Hive cell, then tap the serum icon in the Inventory screen.
Force Field Charge: You're equipped with a protective energy generation system, which gives you maximum protection for short periods of time. Charges are required for each use.

Humans Found

Often times, captive humans are encountered along with hostile Aliens. You will find two types of captive humans:

Cocooned Humans: Aliens preserve captive humans for future consumption by injecting them with a small dose of venom. Venom attacks the victim's nervous system, paralyzing them and slowing their metabolism. Once in this state, the Aliens wrap them up like a cocoon, rendering them helpless for hungry larvae to feast on. Humans in this state are slowly dying, so you must be expeditious about clearing the cell of Aliens. Once the cell is safe, you are given an opportunity to save these poor souls by injecting them with serum.

Free Humans: These Alien captives have not yet been cocooned. They run scared as you fight with the Aliens, so be careful not to kill them with stray ammo meant for your enemy.

Cell Performance Report

After a cell is completed, a Cell Performance Report accounts your performance.

Example:

You are awarded a bonus based on the Larvae you exterminated and the humans you saved. This bonus is added to your score.

Skip this report:
A check in this box means that you will not be updated with a performance report every time you complete a Hive cell. You may not be interested in such frequent reports. You will still get a performance report at the end of each level and at game end regardless of this setting.
Exterminator Rating:
Your performance is measured from 0-10, based on the number of Aliens you kill, humans you save, and Hive cells you explore. Monitor your E.R. to determine how well you are performing your objectives as an ASO Exterminator. You can mass a high score without a high E.R., but you won't be given a hero's welcome when you return home.

Level Performance Report

At the end of each level you will face one of the Queen's chosen guards. These most formidable opponents are selected by the Queen to provide maximum security at level's end and prevent you from descending and getting closer to her lair. If you are successful at defeating one of her "royal guards", a Level Performance Report will show your performance for that level.

Example:

Level statistics include:

You are rewarded for high performance with a bigger bonus which is added to your score at level end and your Exterminator Rating is updated.

Game Play: Preparing for the Next Hive Cell

After you review your performance reports, you are given an opportunity to check and use inventory, quit or save the game, and choose the next Hive cell.

Example:

Options:

Status Panel: (see above)
Path Marker: Every time you enter a new cell you mark your path with an "X". Use these markings to help you determine where you've been and where new Hive cells can be explored.

Checking Inventory

Tap the 'Inventory' button when a Hive cell is complete to check supplies and ammunition. You can heal and cure yourself by tapping the Med Pak or Serum icons. Also, switch ammo by tapping the corresponding ammo icon.

Example:

Using S.A.M.I. to Navigate the Hive

Stoll Chemical, which hosts the Alien Hive, is mostly intact. The plant layout provided the basic infrastructure for the Hive. Cells of the Hive are most often separated by the original walls and doors of the facility. Blue prints of the chemical plant and intelligence from previous insertions were used to program a Sensor And Mapping Instrument (S.A.M.I.) which will help guide you directly to the Queen's lair. Each time you enter a Hive cell, you will have to destroy all the Aliens to proceed further. Once a cell is wiped clean of the enemy, you can choose any direction by tapping a door or S.A.M.I..

Secret Doors: It is important to note that some Aliens have created their own passageways through walls and have concealed them to hide from invaders. A door won't be obvious, but tapping a wall that leads to a concealed passage may lead to something important. Be watchful for larvae who seemingly escape through solid walls, they are probably accessing a secret pathway.

S.A.M.I. will always show you the most direct route to the Queen, but deviating from that path is the only way to rescue more humans, find more ammunition and supplies, and kill more Aliens. Exploring is important to your mission and as long as S.A.M.I. is functioning, you can do so and always get back on the trail of the Queen. S.A.M.I. shows the most direct route with a large arrow and it's integrated compass shows a North tab to indicate your orientation.

Examples:

You are facing North and the most direct path to the Queen is West
You are facing South and the most direct path to the Queen is North
You are facing West and the most direct path to the Queen is West

Path Marker: Remember that every time you enter a new cell you mark your path with an "X". Use these markings to help you determine where you've been and where new Hive cells can be explored.
