Maintaining the perfect desktop
I?m Sam Morphett from Port Augusta, and I?m a subscriber to your great magazine. Anyway, my question is how do you turn off the Save Settings on Exit feature of Windows 95? It gets annoying when something goes wrong with your computer and you have to restart. After your computer has restarted, much to your disappointment, the appearance has greatly changed. I?d be grateful for any help you can give me. - Sam Morphett
Create a NoSaveSettings entry in the registry to preserve desktop settings
Windows 95 users may have experienced the (entirely undocumented) poltergeist function which uses some mystical algorithm to rearrange the desktop whenever you're not looking. If so, you may have searched in vain for something you could "turn off" to make Windows show a little more respect for your desktop. Unfortunately, Windows 95 doesn't offer a Save Settings on Exit option, but it's easy enough to re-create the effect by editing the registry. | Category: Win95 Issue: Aug 1997 Pages: 157-158 |
