Will adding memory speed up my browsing?
Q I'm thinking of adding 32MB of memory to my 166MHz PC, which now has 32MB RAM. Will this speed up my Web browsing? I already own a 56Kbps modem, but my Internet service provider runs at 33.6Kbps. û Paul Farley A That extra memory may speed up graphics-intensive applications such as desktop publishing software, and it can help you juggle lots of programs, but it won't affect Web browsing. The rate at which you view Web pages is determined primarily by the speed of your connection to your ISP and by the speed of your ISP's connection to the Internet. For fast browsing, you need three things. a fast modem, a fast ISP and a high-quality phone line between the two. û Judy Heim | Category:Internet Issue: July 1998 |
